Chang-Yi was born to the pavilion, meaning that her mother was a gisaeng and so she is gisaeng. She didn’t really get mentored by her mother. The madam took more of an interest in her once she started walking and talking. Chang-Yi feels like her life truly became when she met Jae-Kyung, so she doesn’t really dwell on it.

Will be very interesting to see how the king eventually dies. Natural causes, because he is sick? Possible someone else who would help the process go faster? And what would precipitate that someone to make the move instead of letting the king die naturally? hmmmm…. so many possibilities!

Confused.. try to get pregnant before wedding because it was so expensive? Very smart of Young-Do to not trust his father at all and to do all he can to give the king little to use against them.

Well, you don’t want to waste money on a girl who can’t get pregnant that first year. In lots of places, engagements (because they were so hard to break) were almost as good as marriage, which was very expensive, especially if a bride price or dowry was included on either side. Gifts of certain prices had to be exchanged, because marriage, at its heart, is about economics and procreation.

The important takeaway, is that Young-Do is being weird waiting, but because he doesn’t trust the king, is protecting the economics of it all, so no one is going to do more than give him side eye.

So the king wanted to physically hurt Rachel, because he wants to control her with fear like he does everyone else? When he says Young-Do can’t handle her, is it because he thinks Young-Do should make Rachel afraid of him, just like the king is with his queens? It is good that Rachel does see the possibility of the king taking her away from Young-Do… She must have been terrified during that scene!

The King has been doing things his way for over two decades so he is uncomfortable that Rachel isn’t afraid of him. He wanted to establish dominance over her because Young-Do, in his eyes, failed to do that now that they are engaged. 

Rachel is going to have a rough couple of chapters before the wedding while she has to both learn about her status as a hostage and object for the king and decide how to handle it because she doesn’t want to give the king her fear.

So she was more emotionally detached than afraid. And angry. She is very angry.

Too bad Rachel doesn’t have all the info on the king. Hopefully, her not knowing will not affect her negatively. Can see why there is reticence among the victims, though. Always hard to talk about abuse, especially long term and continuing, and in this case, with no way to avoid.

This is a story about becoming the king and queen. Like, I wouldn’t do this to them if they weren’t going to win ^^;;

Eun-Sang in her position already has more than she can hope for, the love a nobleman that she loves. There is no way she would expect or even want anything else from him. Hyo-Shin very much the norm of the time! Excited to see how circumstances work for them to actually be officially together!

I’m excited to sneak in their romance! And I hope I didn’t sell Hyo-Shin too short. He wants to marry Eun-Sang as his first wife because he wants to have a reason to be with her all the time. If he could make that happen, he would probably be reluctant to take a concubine, but if he had to, he would still be a good husband to her. It would probably be more like AHM Da-Kyung, Won, and Hyun-Joo situation.

But Eun-Sang will literally be happy with whatever happens, as long as they can be together in some capacity. (And only happily ever afters here! They may just be complicated.)
