My not-so-secret favorite ship is Dorian x Anders and I adore hurt/comfort (Anders is just so good for it)! So, with that in mind, I’ll suggest “It would have been a lot easier to treat if you’d mentioned it sooner.” For Dorian x Anders, if you’re up for it!
Thank you so much for this prompt!! Dorian/Anders is ALSO one of my secret favorite ships (although tbh I just love anyone with Anders don't at me... LOL)
Written for @dadrunkwriting featuring Inquisitor Anders, hurt/comfort, getting together
“Gods damn it, Dorian,” Anders grits through clenched teeth. He winces as Dorian slides out of his pants fully. Normally, the sight of an attractive man getting naked would bring Anders to his knees.
Dorian makes a broken noise, sitting down on the bench, carefully pulling the front of his shirt down to cover his dick while giving Anders the full view of his upper thigh. They’d just gotten back from that cursed swampy marsh. He’s not sure his boots will ever be dry again.
Apparently, Dorian took a knife to the upper thigh and instead of telling Anders about it straight away, the handsome mage decided it was fine and would heal on it’s own. What’s the point of being the Inquisitor if the people who follow you won’t use your spirit healing for their benefit?
Anders sighs, poking and prodding at the wound. It’s clearly infected. Probably a mix of undead grossness, swampy muck, and sweat being pressed into the wound inside Dorian’s tight pants. He’s not sure he can use his magic to pull the infection out. He’ll need to use herbs and once the infection is gone, he’ll be able to close it up with his magic.
“See,” Dorian says, his voice clearly strained as he puts on an easy smile. “It doesn’t look all that bad.”
“Not that bad? Are you trying to convince yourself?”
Dorian lets out an awkward chuckle. What is it with Anders falling for men who can’t seem to take care of themselves? Something like this could be deadly if they’re not careful. Blood poisoning is no laughing matter.
“This would have been a lot easier to treat if you’d mentioned it sooner.”
Dorian’s eyes dart away. “I didn’t want to be a bother, darling. You were so busy with,” Dorian flicks his wrist in a circle, gesturing around them. “You’re saving the world. Every day you’re on a new mission, saving lives, healing every soldier you can get your hands on. You deplete your mana until you’re glowing with Justice’s juices. I didn’t want to add anything more to your plate.”
Oh.
Anders’ heart skips a beat at the idea of Dorian caring for him. He wanted to protect Anders, even if the idea of hiding an injury is stupid in Anders’ book. It’s the thought that counts.
Anders hums softly, reaching into his bag and bringing out a jar of poultice. “This is going to hurt,” he says softly before putting a large amount directly into the wound. Dorian whimpers but Anders is careful and uses a tiny bit of magic to soothe the inflammation. Then he wraps up the wound with clean bandages.
Sweat drips down the side of Dorian’s brow, his eyes glued to Anders’ face.
“I’ll need to change these every morning and as soon as the infection has run its course, I’ll be able to properly seal and heal.”
Dorian’s hand touches Anders’ wrist, stopping him from pulling away. “I’m sorry I didn’t tell you sooner. I didn’t want to be just another burden.”
“Dorian,” Anders breathes out. He’s still on his knees, between Dorian’s legs. They’re so close, achingly close, yet at the same time Anders wishes they were closer. “I’m not upset. I was worried. If anything happened to you--” Anders has lost too many people that he loves. He doesn’t think he’ll survive going through that yet again.
It would be better to put distance between them. He can’t get hurt if he doesn’t love again.
Unfortunately, it’s too late for that.
“Nothing is going to happen to me. Do you really think a little flesh wound could stop the evil magister from Tevinter who surely does blood magic while he’s reading those evil books all night?”
Anders’ eyebrows shoot up to his hairline, unable to stop the surprised chuckle that leaves him. “Is that the current rumor?”
“Yes,” Dorian says, raising his nose in the air. “There’s also a rumor about how I’m corrupting the Inquisitor.”
“Really? If anything, the abomination is corrupting the mages.”
“Nonsense. I’ve seen my fair share of abominations and none of them hold a candle to you. A handsome renegade if I’ve ever seen one.”
“Don’t let Varric hear you say that,” Anders says with a smile.
The hand on his wrist moves up to his face, gently cupping his face. “You have everything on your shoulders, Anders. You do so much for everyone. Who takes care of you?” Anders can’t meet Dorian’s eyes. “Ah, as I suspected.”
Dorian cups his chin, forcing him to raise his face. “I’m going to kiss you now. Is that agreeable?”
“Is that? By the Maker, Dorian. Yes.”
They lean into each other, their lips meeting. Anders doesn’t remember the last time he did something just for him, but this kiss? This is just for him. The world fades away. There’s no anchor running up his arm, there’s no Corypheus, there’s no demon army. There’s just Dorian and Anders.
“Every time I love, it ends in disaster,” Anders whispers against Dorian’s lips. Despite how perfect this moment is, he feels like he has to warn Dorian.
Dorian huffs against his lips. “We’ve only just started and you’re already planning on it ending?”
“I don’t want to hurt you.”
“It’s okay if you do. You’re the best healer I know. Let yourself have this. Let me have this. You’re not the only one who hasn’t let himself imagine love.”
Anders wants to fight against this but he can’t. Dorian is right. There’s no guarantee of tomorrow, so why not embrace the here and now. This might not last but that’s no reason to cut it off before it even has time to bloom.
Instead of fighting, Anders embraces these feelings welling up inside his chest. He grabs the back of Dorian’s neck and kisses him again.

I think it's funny that when Cassandra gathers ppl to save the world you get the (mostly) het Inquisition. But when Varric gathers people it's always a wild pack of deranged fruits, AKA the DA2 crew minus Sebastian (the dlc straight) and the Veilguard minus Solas (status pending)

Idk what to put as a ending post image so here's Varric with his cleavage out

Here's another DAtober fill! Today's is fallen and features Dorian/Anders, meet cute, and Inky Anders
Anders’ heart is stuck in his throat as he walks through Redcliffe village to the chantry. Justice rolls inside of him, confirming his suspicions; something is wrong here. The rift they closed outside the gates manipulated time and now there’s a magister here, taking charge of the mages? Those two things can’t be a coincidence.
He looks over his shoulder. The Iron Bull, Varric, and Solas are right behind him, ready to follow him in. He still doesn’t understand why they even trust him after everything.
The mark on his hand sparks with energy and Anders’ eyes snap up, finding the room bathed in green. A rift flares with life but that’s not what catches his attention.
There’s a mage to the left of the room, fighting a demon. He’s well dressed, physically fit, and Anders finds his face flushing as he watches the mage’s arms flex as he moves his staff.
Holy fuck.
“Good, you’re finally here!” The mage calls out, grinning over at them. Anders’ heart skips a beat as their eyes meet. His voice is just as beautiful as his well manicured face. “Now help me close this would you?”
With that, the four of them jump into the fray, fighting off the demons in order to give Anders an opening to close it.
A demon pours from the rift, going straight for the hot mage that Anders can’t stop looking over at. His back is turned, his full attention on fighting off a different demon. Anders propels himself forward, using one of the yellow pockets of time magic to make himself impossibly faster. He swings his staff around, knocking the demon away from the other mage with the blunt end of his staff. He twists it around, using the knife at the end to slide the head straight from the demon’s shoulders.
Once he knows the other is safe, he turns towards the rift, lifting his hand and using the mark to close it. It hurts. It hurts every time he does this but Justice is there to take some of the pain, soothing it enough to help him focus.
Anders takes a breath before standing up and dusting himself off. He turns towards the gorgeous mustached man, finding him staring at Anders with equal parts fascination and admiration.
Anders likes being under his scrutiny.
By the Maker, what’s gotten into him?
“Fascinating, how does that work, exactly,” he murmurs, reaching over and touching Anders’ wrist in order to look at the mark more closely. Sparks run up his arm at the simple touch. “You don’t even know, do you? You just wiggle your fingers, and boom! Rift closes.”
“Who are you?”
“Ah, getting ahead of myself again, I see. Dorian of House Pavus, most recently of Minrathous. How do you do?”
Anders readjusts their hands in order to shake Dorian’s hand. A mage from Tevinter? What the hell is he getting himself into? And why is he about to throw himself into it head first?

veilguard remake of this poll
Solas removed from this one because there is a 12 button limit + he's now had an official game appearance at his full godly strength, and i don't think he should be allowed to compete. Jowan stays though.

One of my criticisms about Dragon Age, and this isn't unique to Veilguard, is how antirevolutionary their narratives are. (Spoilers for Veilguard ahead, naturally)
Narratively, they're not adverse to all change (since stories have to have some change in order to exist) but they're hardly accepting of it either.
Any change that happens to the status quo has to happen within the system, otherwise it's deemed extremism and wrong in universe.
Contrast that with when Anders or Grand Enchanter Fiona take actions against the systems of the Circles that spark the mage rebellion - they're vilified for it by the narrative and everyone around them. They're painted as fools at best, malicious murderers at worst. All because their steps for change were taken outside of the system. (Anders blows up a Chantry, Fiona starts a vote to disband the Circle of Magi)
In a worldstate where Leliana becomes Divine Victoria and disbands the Circles to allow for the formation of the College of Enchanters, she's celebrated because she stayed within the Chantry, rose to the top through unconventional but still allowable means, yet achieved radical societal change nonetheless.
If Dorian becomes Archon, his anti-slavery views aren't seen as unreasonable or too radical because he stays within the system. His work with the Shadow Dragons - an anti-slavery group, who by all standards aren't that different from the mage rebellion in the south, is deemed different because their leaders are still trying to work with the systems for change.
Solas gets both versions of this anti-revolutionary treatment. In Inquisition, he felt honestly quite reasonable to me in his motivations to tear down the veil, but he can't escape that same vilification as when he's trying to fit the mould of a force for rebellion, he's treated like a monster or has significantly more flaws in the narrative. When his motivations are framed as complete systematic change, he's shown to not view anyone in modern Thedas as 'real people.' In one of his approval scenes in Inq, he goes out of his way to tell the Inquisitor essentially "you're one of the good ones." He's ignorant, racist, and singlemindedly focused on destroying the world to have a second Elvhenan but better.
But in Veilguard, in order for the narrative to consider him redeemable, his reasons for wanting the veil to come down get changed from wanting betterment for the elves and restoring the Elvhen people, into personal regrets he needs to fulfill. He's no longer framed solely as a political, rebellious force for change, but as a mere man who went too far for a woman he loved. Suddenly the narrative gives the player permission to give him redemption. Because he doesn't actually want change, it's just what he thought Mythal wanted, so that's fine and different.
Your player character protagonist can never actually flat-out agree with the vilified rebel characters either. I can't have my pro-mage rights Hawke say "hey, actually, Anders was right to blow up the Chantry, I agree with him," you always have to ultimately condemn his actions, even if you agree with the outcome.
I can't have my Dalish Inquisitor or an Elven Rook say "hey, actually, maybe Solas has a point, this world does suck for elves and maybe the veil coming down would fix that," they always have to ultimately believe that the veil has to stay.
The games do everything they can to avoid letting the player come to the conclusion that revolution is a good thing. Instead, they force the idea that the only way change is ethical is if you do it within the preexisting status quo.
