It’s wild how some people attack nine-year-old Snape for a burst of accidental magic.
Imagine someone like Petunia poking at every raw nerve: mocking your looks, poverty, and family—relentlessly pressing your deepest insecurities. Be honest how many of you would actually keep your cool?? Yeah, thought so. But sure, let’s hold nine-year-old Snape to standards most adults struggle to meet.
Sorry—not sorry—that Severus Snape was nine. Sorry that he was neglected and surrounded by violence. Sorry he felt so insecure after being humiliated for wearing his mother’s clothes, passed down out of poverty, in front of his peers. Sorry he didn’t have years of therapy to regulate his emotions and meet your impossibly high standards for 'acceptable reactions.'
But sure, keep judging a child just trying to survive in a world that offered him nothing but pain. If labeling a traumatized kid a 'Nazi' or 'terrorist' makes you feel superior, go ahead.
(How easy it is to condemn a child for being human.)

I feel like the reason why MC completely went all out in their studies (incl. SAT, ACT) and extracurriculars was bc it was kind of a coping mechanism with everything going on in their life. Their exes prolly didn't help them either and I won't be surprised if they barely spent any time together bc MC was too busy doing everything else.
If that is truly the case, them launching themselves back into academia in college is just them continuing the cycle...
you’re not wrong, dear bonnie, and i had explained it more in-depth in a post that i can’t find now 💀 long story short, they made it their mission to get into yale and missed out on a lot of their high school experiences because of that. they’d have to put off hanging out with friends or going on dates with their partners in order to study, volunteer, or do extracurricular activities.
all their exes can also attest to the fact that they didn’t feel like a priority when they were dating MC. some, like charles and emma, took it in stride more than others. it’s one of the reasons why all the parties involved knew that it was just going to end up being a brief high school relationship.
in college, however, you can elaborate on what other vices MC has taken up, like:
smoking (cigarettes, vape, etc.)
drinking (sometimes blacking out in the process)
doing drugs (hardcore ones in some cases)
hooking up with random people (intersects with MCs who have low opinions of themselves)
doubling down on their studies (increasing their chances of getting burnt out)
#double ouchie if these MCs have a saviour/martyr complex#they really are god’s strongest soldiers#if: the ballad of the young gods#interactive fiction#interactive novel#interactive story#twine wip#exes and ohs

I think the problems with idea of Bruce making Jason dye his hair black and why it's so brushed off is because it's stated in the Morrison run and seems comically evil or abusive to people, so people who don't think Bruce abusive are against it and people who DO think Bruce abusive doesn't fit in with the jaybin times, or think its a bit much
Edit: its also. Not a case of "not that bad even if it did happen" what the hell
This idea is stated in comic in the B&R Morrison run, to quote the panel "When I was Robin, Batman made me dye my hair to look like more Grayson." But I STAND BY the fact it is absolutely a valid interpretation on its own. Someone reading pre-crisis CAN absolutely come to this interpretation no Morrison required
And I am just. Really trying so desperately to fight how it's constantly getting insulted or brushed off as an idea or interpretation. Like god please even my own posts about it before had some using it to prop the fact it's a ridiculous idea with no basis in pre. Please I'm so tired
Let's examine pre-crisis, and get some notes out of the way. YES Jason put on the Robin suit on his own without input from Bruce. YES Jason dyed his hair first without input from Bruce.
I am referring to how, in universe/watsonian- he had to keep it up.
And as I stand, it's VERY easy to make Bruce not comically evil about it. In fact, it's remarkably easy to Bruce do it ENTIRELY accidentally. I believe Bruce would never INTEND for Jason to feel he has to dye his hair to look like Dick- maybe Jason saying Bruce "made" him to do it is wrong if thatll help ypur interpretation. But the matter at hand here is what Bruce, intentionally or not, would make Jason believe
What's in pre-crisis that makes this? While initially Bruce is against seeing Jason in the Robin suit- it's quite a shock as briefly thought Jason was Dick. As SOON as permission is granted from Dick, Bruce is all over it. He is joyous, he smiles the whole time, he doesn't correct anyone who thinks the dynamic duo is back and the original Robin is back in town.

That's actually a major part of pre-crisis and Jason in general to me, the fact Jason doesn't get his own separate identity, he doesn't feel like he's the next to bear a mantle, he feels like.. Robin. Not a new one like he is- but to be SEEN as the original. He brings no changes to the costume (considering his complaints about pants, I certainly see it as him believing he's not allowed to change it- its the same situation as the hair dye) he brings no new weapons, not even his own hair color, nothing unique to Jason is brought into the identity for the world and general population to see. The EXTENT is him having heart bangs during Dick's sidesweep era, but thats.. so small. And even THEN one could try and bring up the argument that it's similar to an established Dick hairstyle anyway
Jason hated being compared to Dick. One of his closest friends in pre-crisis was Harvey Bullock, after Harvey recognized him as a different Robin. His has a whole conversation with Donna about how she's treating him like Dick instead of Jason. Jason, even if doing it himself without orders from Bruce, would not see himself as willingly doing it or wanting to do it- to him, its not an active choice he's making. He'd be doing it to please Bruce
And, one of the first things Batman does when Jason dons the suit for real is like. Immediately as soon as Dick's gone say that Jason would be selfish for having his own identity- that'd itd be ego gratification. As soon as Jason accepts Robin, Batman effectively cuts Jason off from the costume he had before with this conversation. Jason brings up concerns of all his actions being attributed to Robin- and Batman compares it to if HE revealed his identity as Bruce Wayne- which is why it never works with it's intent of being a "dont be a hero for selfish reasons" speech to me.

Batman is wrong for this- he showed a VERY positive to reaction to Jason being Robin compared to Jason's own identity- he said he had no regrets. he makes his joy clear. No matter what he intends or wants or believes, a child will be able to see the preference and act in response. Batman LEARNS from this- as Tim will come around with his own completely distinct costume and style- and none of the others even feel like they have to dye their hair. Sure, maybe Jason had a pretty good run overall with Batdad but that doesn't mean Bruce doesn't fuck it up ever, he fucks it up alot, such is the life of Bruce Wayne
Like- I think it's important to stress that Bruce- especially 80s Bruce- doesn't really.. recognize consequences to his own actions? And that's a bit notable in viewing here.
NOW. If we're saying Jason kept the Robin suit and that's on him. As far as I see it Bruce was way too late in receding that and going like hey,, you don't HAVE to be Robin if you don't want to... Because like. He ALREADY made his position clear AND this is tied to Jason being beaten by the villain- After Quilt Man attacks Jason for being Robin is when Bruce is like hmm i mightve made an error. And like, what are the chances Jason wouldve seen that as Bruce saying Jay isn't good enough to be Robin. He would NEVER take that. Jason needs to prove himself. Also Jason is like. Being kinda mind controlled when this happens anyway. So.
And this all goes down to this. Jason is meant, in some way, to be seen as Dickbin. Jason himself does not like this, but the preference of Bruce is clear, the doors that open for Jason after he accepts Robin are clear (as I recall, it felt he had to stop fighting quite so hard to be allowed to work vigilantism). Bruce puts in Jason that Jason having his own identity is bad and wrong of him to want. Bruce prefers a sidekick he can mistake for Dick still being there having Robin by his side
If Jason can't make Robin is own, yeah, him having to dye his hair is gonna follow. It's also why any interpretations I see where Jason has a different costume from Dick i don't like because Jason being a "copy" of Dick is MAJOR to his story and always will be to me
Just. Stop saying the very IDEA is some ridiculous made up idea for edgy points please. This is how I genuinely interpret pre-crisis, which were the first Jason comics I read, and I am. so tired. I'm so tired
"That's not canon anymore" alot of pre-crisis actually is still canon in some form, canon is a coin flip entirely decided by who's writing at the time, the idea is spoken into canon during a run where Jason IS dying his hair and this conversation is about that + precrisis itself, not all of canon. Also honestly at this point it feels like DC is trying to make none of 80s jaybin canon if they could. And are we not all taking from various canons for our own interpretations? Also figuring out whats current canon and what's not in comics sounds like a genuine nightmare
I'm not even saying that you need to accept and adopt this into your your interpretation just stop being an ass about it. more people than morrison like it. and for more than morrison </3
IM fully blaming Bruce for this. Btw. I'm not even implying it's in any way Jason's fault also I'm attacking Bruce with my mind. He's TWELVE. STOP giving him complexes and identity issues!!! That's unrelated to the post but I need to make my stance clear I think this was very much a failure on Bruce's part and not his isolated lonely 12 yr old
#this isnt in any way directed at galaxy btw. (we having a conversation in my last post about this) like to be clear#im just STILL being mad this like i was when i made that initial post but i wanted to make a more clear version.which prob spread less rip#also i forogt to respond and its reached the point where Its Been Too Long so i Cant now so i just need to crawl in a hole abt it#im like just now realizing that was probably. looked bad considering how i left it. sorry galaxy TwT. it was an engaging convo i just forgo#jason todd#dc comics#batman#ask to tag#we press on#some of yall have like. a weird complex about hating precrisis as well. fascinatingly its a close venn diagram with people#who are surprised to learn joe and trina were eaten by crocodiles#this conclues my hater moment ill stop griping about this now i prommy#long post#ive been rambling for the past 4 hours and have to go somewhere now. im not double checking. be free my post#🎠🏚🌊#pre-crisis jason todd

You Are Probably Magnesium Deficient
About a year ago, I started supplementing magnesium. It's been literally life changing. I've been working on a lot of issues with my health – asthma, migraines, fibromyalgia – but if I could only keep one fix I think it would be this one.
(I'm glad I don't have to actually pick. You can pry my migraine medications out of my cold, dead hands.)
I had previously tried supplementing magnesium as a migraine treatment. My doctor suggested I try Preventa, which contains 60mg magnesium. I took it for several months and didn't notice any improvement, so I discontinued it.
A year ago, my brother reported that he'd been supplementing magnesium and it had improved several issues that I also had. I give my family's health recommendations a lot of extra weight because they're very smart and because I figure their bodies are closer to mine so things that work for them are more likely to work for me. I asked him exactly what he was doing – taking 500mg every day for at least a few weeks – and copied it exactly.
Nothing happened for about a week and a half. Then, I woke up and discovered that my muscles were capable of relaxing. Exercise became pleasant. I stopped clenching my jaw. My blood pressure monitor stopped warning me that it had detected an arrhythmia that my doctors could never seem to find.
So here's what I've learned since:
Electrolytes include calcium, sodium, potassium, and magnesium. There are others. I don’t care about them right now. Your body uses calcium, sodium, and potassium to tense your muscles and magnesium to relax them.
You want 186-2300mg sodium per day. The average American gets about 3300mg. Side effects of insufficient sodium include nausea, headache, fatigue, seizures, muscle spasms, and coma. Side effects of too much sodium include muscle weakness, thirst, irritability, lethargy, and seizures. Table salt is a good source of sodium, containing 2400mg per teaspoon.
You want about 1000mg calcium per day. The average American gets about 1029mg. Side effects of insufficient calcium include osteoporosis, kidney stones, hypertension, stroke, and insulin resistance. Excess calcium is mostly dealt with by the kidneys (pages 2-4). Milk is a good source of calcium, containing 240mg per 400mL.
You want about 3000mg potassium per day. The average American gets about 2668mg. Your kidneys will mostly deal with excess potassium, but if they fail side effects include numbness, tingling, nausea, trouble breathing, chest pain, and heart palpitations. Side effects of insufficient potassium include constipation, fatigue, heart palpitations, muscle spasms, tingling, muscle cramps, low blood pressure, and thirst. I’m not totally sure about good sources of potassium? Like the best source on this list is dried apricots but you would need to eat like 2 cups of them to get enough potassium and that sounds like so many apricots. Bananas are pretty mediocre sources of potassium with 422mg per. Potassium supplements only provide about 99mg, or 3% of your recommended daily intake. Still, we seem to be getting pretty close somehow? Like add in that banana and you’re golden. I dunno. Moving on.
You want about 400mg magnesium per day. The average American gets “only approximately 50% of that.” Side effects of insufficient magnesium include hypertension, arrhythmias, heart disease, and diabetes (pages 5-6). Side effects of too much magnesium include diarrhea – which gets framed as a positive (“reduces constipation”) as often as not and is presumably not severe – and that’s about it unless you have kidney problems. Peanut butter and black beans are frequently recommended sources of magnesium, containing 49mg per 2Tbsp and 60mg per half cup, respectively.
To put it another way, you would need to eat about 16Tbsp of peanut butter a day to get enough magnesium. That's a lot of peanut butter.
Your drinking water can provide up to 30% of your magnesium intake – and, historically, often has. When tap water has a lot of minerals, we call it “hard water.” We don’t generally like hard water, so we soften it, which takes out the magnesium (and calcium).
You're probably magnesium deficient.
If you want to repair this deficiency, you will probably need to supplement steadily for a few weeks before you notice a difference. I recommend magnesium citrate, which dissolves in water and has a pretty subtle taste. Not that you have to dissolve it in water. I've mixed it in smoothies and taken it in capsules and added it to my water bottle – whatever is most convenient for the day I have planned. It all works fine.
#magnesium#electrolytes#muscle tension#health#migraines#TMJ#please double-check all my numbers#some of them have more complex breakdowns by age and gender and stuff that I didn't want to get into in this already-too-long overview#so a lot of them are averages#also I have dyscalculia so while I tried really hard to copy them over correctly I cannot promise that I did#let me know if you notice any errors

Rivals? Sure… If Privilege vs. Neglect Counts as a Fair Fight
One of the boys sharing the compartment, who had shown no interest at all in Lily or Snape until that point, looked around at the word, and Harry, whose attention had been focused entirely on the two beside the window, saw his father: slight, black-haired like Snape, but with that indefinable air of having been well-cared-for, even adored, that Snape so conspicuously lacked.
The way J.K. Rowling describes the first meeting between Severus Snape and James Potter is one of the most poignant moments in Harry potter and deathly hallows. It's not just about the bullying and taunts that eleven-year-old Snape endures—it's the heartbreaking contrast she paints between them. And what's worse? This imbalance doesn't just end on the train. It lingers for the rest of their lives.
James and Snape were never rivals—because how could they be? James was the golden child, adored, sheltered, born into wealth and love, proud of everything he had. Snape? He was the forgotten one, fragile, drowning in poverty, neglect, and violence. By what standard could they ever have been equals?
This unfairness never fades. James always gets what he wants, even in the brief span of his life. After his death, his mistakes are brushed aside, his legacy carefully preserved by those who loved him. Snape, on the other hand, is the boy who never gets what he truly desires. His dream of a different life is always out of reach. He dies weighed down by guilt, and even in death, his name is tied to his mistakes, his legacy stained by them.

there’s something i really adore about curly being revealed to being this beautiful blond man after we see him post crash like what happens to him is so awful and dehumanizing like he really loses everything but especially as a viewer/player watching this game i love the commentary it’s silently making and this uncomfortable feeling in my chest that i have to wrestle with. love it when stuff makes me feel
I think it’s so poignant that Jimmy never hallucinates or sees Curly as his pre-crash self. He only speaks to Curly about and in terms of his own thoughts and projections and rarely lets him have his own inner personal thoughts. Even before the crash it is like this. He is the perfect captain to him and to an extent the rest of the crew even if he is more actualized around the others.
So much of how Curly is dehumanized by Jimmy and the rest is representative of how the Pony Express and capitalism strips workers of their identity, into objects of service. Once he can’t do anything who or what he was is no longer important, worthless, a burden. He is both the dandy dish in HFIM, the idea of going up being before the crash, while the ball is after the crash, his forced decent downwards.
There is an argument he is dehumanized to less than an even object with how his ID card lacks a name and face in Jimmy’s hallucination. Even Anya gets her name, and identify. He is just an empty spot, a role to fill to a lot of them, which is think is why so many fans have a hard time pin pointing who Curly was before the crash and what he stood for.
So much of what we saw of Curly was a man on duty, a man serving under his job and starting to find conflict with that. We don’t really get to see Curly acting for himself and it think it tells about the way he has been molded along with the way he was trying to reshape himself outside of P.E before it was too late.
I always finding intriguing how people almost prefer to draw post crash Curly, to draw his suffering and continue, to an extent, him being the scapegoat, faceless and facing repercussions other characters and entities should. Being a figure to vent frustration to because he can’t fight back, we don’t know what he would say or how he would feel or what he would’ve done. We don’t really know that when he had skin either…
#it’s easy to assume and project a lot of aspects on to curly because he’s purposely kept as blank as possible while still being relatable so#we can be tricked like the crew into thinking he could’ve crashed the ship but we learn as the game goes on even with so little#he is not that type of guy and I hate takes that ignore or use Jimmy’s unreliable narration#and warping of scenes he is in to try to characterize Curly accurately as it shows a double standard when people believe someone deserves#punishment like none of their conversations are mutually beneficial or naturally they are stiff#one sided as Jimmy gets way more out of it or steers it in a way his projection takes forefront#we don’t get Curly’s true insights outside of the dissociative episode and him running around trying to placate Anya and Jimmy#literally the split between his personal and professional life but way more muddled as it is indistinguishable atp#I hate when people use Jimmy’s words to create accurate depictions for him as he projections and warps the perceptions of Curly just as much#if not equally as he does Anya but whatever we can apprently only talk about one theme for a complex story and never play with ideas that#are seen in real life so fuck me ig#mouthwashing#captain curly#curly mouthwashing#ask#anon#mouthwashing game

TotK DLC idea!
The screen is black. You don’t hear anything for a long time. Then, faintly, in the distance, you can hear it.
Link. Link. Open your eyes.
While the line echoes familiarity, the voice does not.
Or. Well. It does. Because while it isn’t Zelda, it’s a familiar man’s voice speaking gently, so gently you almost don’t recognize it because there’s no way he ever spoke like this in the main game.
But he is now. And instead of a golden light being the first image you see before the screen shows Link awakening… you see gloom floating in the air. The image cuts to a Hylian waking up who… doesn’t look like Link from TotK?? He’s different, still small in stature, with slightly tanner skin, platinum light blonde hair, and red eyes. But… something’s wrong with his forehead. There’s a weird line on it.
This new character you apparently are gonna be playing in the DLC blearily blinks his eyes open, clearly groggy and too weak to really move. But then that line on his forehead moves a hair, it splits apart, and you realize it’s a freaking eye, red and yellow and it’s like the ones on gloom hands and oh gosh what the hell is it doing on his forehead—
Link realizes something is off and his eyes blow wide, his hands reach for his forehead and he screams in agony and terror, only for someone to scoop him into a hug to soothe him.
And suddenly you realize why that voice was eerily familiar.
It’s Ganondorf. He resurrected you from the era of the Imprisoning War. You, who have a history with him and his family. You, who he wants to protect, who he views as his kid, who he calls a prince and says he’ll keep you safe by controlling your body with his dark magic if he has to.
Welcome to Tears of the Kingdom: Hero’s Shadow.
You have to play a long gone Hero who was resurrected. Ganondorf, who is still recovering his strength in preparation for killing the current Hero, tasks you with finding your betrothed, his daughter, as well as his wife. They’re buried somewhere in the Depths like you were. He wants you to find their burial sites so he can use his secret stone to resurrect them like he did you, and control them as well. Which is doubly bad when you realize his wife was the original Sage of Lightning. He gives you free reign to wander once you go through a tutorial (he tests you to see if you’ve recovered enough strength), because he knows you love wandering and collecting things. Your own personal objective, however, is trying to help Hyrule from the Depths, to break free from Ganondorf’s control, because Link would rather set himself on fire than let Ganondorf resurrect and control the love of his life and his mother-in-law. Your best hope is to find shards of the shattered Master Sword to try and stab the eye on Dark Link’s forehead and break the control Ganondorf has on you. Until you can, though, the monsters are your allies, you can teleport across the Depths by manifesting out of the gloom created by gloom hands (just like what Phantom Ganon does), and the world below is your oyster. If you get too close to sword shards when gloom hands are nearby, Ganondorf can see your attempt and immediately takes control of your body, and no matter what button you press Link just walks back to Ganondorf’s location and stays there until you get a chance to try again.
You start with three hearts, all empty looking like when gloom hurts you, and if you get injured they just shatter. Whenever they all shatter, you respawn at Ganondorf’s location because his gloom hands came and rescued you from dying. The only way you can get more hearts is by collecting poes and offering them to the statues in the Depths. You can communicate with the spirits of soldiers, who may give you combat tips or info about the area. If you gain enough of Ganondorf’s trust, he’ll let you command monsters, and he might even let you wander the Surface (under his supervision) during a blood moon.
You learn of Link’s and Ganondorf’s history through discovering ancient relics/texts that trigger memories. This connection between you and Ganondorf stems back to time before the war, well over ten thousand years ago. Link was engaged to Ganondorf’s daughter, but during the Imprisoning War the family fought against the demon king. Ganondorf did love his family, but he loved power more. Link sacrificed himself, letting himself get mortally wounded to save Rauru from a killing blow. Gan held him as he died, and it allowed Link to both beg him to stop and stab him in the heart with a light shard. The shard didn’t kill him, but it was what Rauru connected with when he hit him in the chest, allowing him to seal Ganondorf away. Ganondorf still wants the world, but his love for his family is still present, though now twisted, so he thinks he can control Link and everyone else with his dark magic in order to keep them safe and in line. Once the threat of the current Hero is eliminated, the world will be his, and his family will be safe. As such, he treats you, Link, the player, like a stubborn child, reeling you in, but does so in a horrific way, torturing Link by controlling him.
You have to break free of this and stop him, and the only hope you have is the distant call of a sword spirit…
#tears of the kingdom#totk#I think it would be pretty neat to play someone who is “allies” with the bad guy#but you still have the objective of stopping evil#But you have to manipulate Ganondorf and work around his watch#So you get to play double agent#And possibly see a more complex Ganondorf#Like the dude is still being evil; he’s using his love for Link as an excuse to control him#He does care about him but he’s expressing it in the worst way#and he wants to do the same to his wife and daughter#So still a bad guy but a far more interesting one#One day you’re on the Surface with him and you see the Light Dragon and you’re not sure who it is#Because Link died before Zelda ate the secret stone#But Link can kind of guess#And Ganondorf almost noticed her so Link has to hug him or say something to get his attention#You have to manipulate Gan as best you can#idk how it would end#Like once you break free what do you do#But the idea tickled my mind so I wanted to write it down#Yes I’m just playing with my Imprisoning War blorbos#no I don’t care#legend of zelda#skye time travels through the queue#hero of shadow

#fandom critical#like yeah merlin is an unreliable narrator… he thinks that arthur is going to become better LOL#but this person spends all their time defending arthur refusing to lift the ban so that’s clearly not what they take issue with#i wish i could remember exactly what i blocked them for :/#they’re one of those merthurs who puts on a gwen pfp to avoid accusations but never talks about her + wants her gone from the story#unless it’s to emphasize that arthur could never possibly be interested in her and was never in love with her and to otherwise devalue her#importance to the characters (only white boys can move people emotionally ALWAYS REMEMBER THIS!!!)#merlin is also the Reluctant Hero archetype from the start… he accepts his narrative role eventually sure but he still doesn’t see himself#as The Hero. he sees Arthur as the Important one. he does not have a hero complex he is just trying to help LMAO there is such a difference#fellas is every instance of doing the right thing a sign that you have a Complex or Fetish?#we have to stop like. medicalizing human existence. or whatever this is… idk at this point :/ touch grass#but anyways his speech in 1x05 should’ve disillusioned anyone and everyone of thinking he has a Savior Complex come on now#fellas is it wrong to be uniquely positioned to save someone’s life. fellas is it wrong to try to end the genocide against your people#despite your misgivings/lack of self-confidence#dear god. pick up a book#also the sheer double standard where arthur’s heroism (propagating that arthur has earned being king therefore unequal wealth/power)#is treated as natural and goes unquestioned#whereas merlin’s is held under such horrendous scrutiny. it is OBVIOUSLY classist.#arthur is trying to justify inequality by justifying to himself that he’s ‘earned’ his higher status by Being A Hero#meanwhile merlin is saving everyone including arthur himself with no reward and no recognition simply in the hopes that it ends the wars#namely the war against magic#it’s just such a shallow brainwashed read i needed to waterboard it 😭

turns out that if you don't have knitting needles, chopsticks also work as long as you make them pointier with a pencil sharpener.
sampler scarf knitting progress:

didn't take long to remember how knitting works. Couple rows of knit stitches, with a few purls in the first row
next I'll do a few rows of purls, and then alternating back and forth
#original#knitting#fiber arts#knitblr#I could probably jump to the more complex things more quickly but this is doubling as fic research/illustration#for a newbie knitter just learning the stitches
