It was probably me, haha. Not actually.. Anyways, how are you, Mr. Price?
-Duncan.
I'm doing as well as usual. Been putting our heads together in the office to work on cases. Sometimes significant evidence gets thrown out, and it's hard to work around. And sometimes... it's less about presenting the truth as is and more like making an impression on the jury that you're right.
How are you doing? I'm far from retirement but I think my gray could catch up with yours the way these next four years are gonna go.

Yes, it pays decently well. I think the compensation is fair for the turmoil I deal with regularly.
Win or lose, I'm still on the receiving end of less than savory words from the press and public. I've watched friends and family of defendants crumble from verdicts, and I know every last one of them will never forgive me.
But being forgiven or praised is not what my job is about.
What were you doing before retiring?
Am I seeing double? I could have sworn i just saw another person on here that looks a little like you. But he's more blonde and.....intriguing.
Hello. I'm Nolan, I just joined this site.
- @nolan-price
Well, hello, Nolan.
How is being a lawyer? Must pay good.

it's so interesting because patrick is from an incredibly wealthy family but receives no attention from them and is basically ignored while, inversely, tashi didn't grow up with money but she has family around her constantly that all relied on her success/wealth... the contrast of 'nobody fucking cares about me so i can do whatever i want because i have no responsibility!!' versus the 'everybody cares about me so i can't do whatever i want and i have so much responsibility it's suffocating!!!'

*is wearing a trench coat, fedora, sunglasses, and mustache* psst! hey kid? you want some Sir Handel headcanons?
-In my human AU, every time Duncan goes to practice his electric guitar, or listen to his Led Zeppelin or AC/DC albums, Sir Handel suddenly needs to do a project that requires the power to be shut off.
-He gets very offended if Gordon refers to him as "mini me", but it's fine if Peter Sam calls him a "mini Gordon"
-there was this whole incident where Paxton couldn't work at the quarry, so he had Diesel take his place, Diesel then decided to try and take over the Skarloey railway but it backfired horribly, first he had to put up with Sir Handel's tantrums,
(diesel: will you stop whining!?
Sir handel: you want whining? I'll give you whining! it's too hot! I'm too tired! you're shunting the trucks wrong! you're too mean! the trucks are too heavy!)
-Diesel then decided to try the same tactics he used with Duck by spreading rumors that Sir Handel was speaking bad about the other engines. when he told this to the rest of the narrow gauge engines, they went "yep, that sounds like sir Handel alright, he tends to do that, except his insults are way more creative than that." and not even care.
-Diesel then changed his story so it was Duncan being the one to talk badly about the narrow gauge engines, and they were just like, "yeah no, if Duncan were to speak badly about us, he would've said it to our faces."
-then diesel tried to pit the others against Rusty, but that backfire horribly and the whole thing ended with Diesel being terrorized by Duncan, and being backed into a corner by said Duncan, and somehow dragged halfway up the incline.
-my OC No. 2456 despises Sir Handel for no reason other than his name starts with a "sir", ergo Sir Handel is an aristocrat, No. 2456 hates aristocrats because in their mind, they started ww1. and they're a trench loco so...
needless to say Sir Handel is rather offended by this.
*points to my open palm* "I'll take all of the Sir Handel headcanons you have if you please" (this goes for everyone who has Sir Handel headcanons by the way).
•Plot twist, this is Peter Sam. Sir Handel sneaks in and listens to Duncan's albums. The two rock out together, but Sir Handel hurries off the minute anyone comes along.
•To me, Sir Handel cares deeply about being distinctive and having his own identity, so calling him a mini version of someone else would cause him to complain and boast about how smart and distinctive he is.
•You know that scene in My Little Pony where Rarity starts whining at the Diamond Dogs? That scene (and episode as a whole) is Sir Handel. Sir Handel is definitely Rarity.
•I completely agree. Sir Handel's insults are definitely creative, and even earn a laugh out of most.
•Again, I completely agree. I love the rest of the engine's reactions, they are highly amusing and fitting.
•Once again, I completely agree. Duncan does not really show positive emotions in the way that everyone else does. So, while he does not say to Rusty that he cares about them, he comes charging if anyone messes with them.
•Sir Handel would probably think that they're jealous because of how grand and fancy he is. He is a posh chap, and he takes great pride in it.

This is a reply to #812. Look, I'm not attracted to Tom Paris nor do I find him particularly interesting, but body-shaming his actor is not cool. It'd be one thing if the confessor said "Tom is too bland for B'Elanna" or "I think Tom's looks are over-hyped" but calling him ugly is not ok.

Did Rebecca have PTSD after her accident at Lewisham? Did it change her life?
Hello, yes she did and the incident did affect her, she still was genuinely positive and upbeat and lookin at the bright side but it was a long journey, with the positive overwhelming support by the others, especially those who escaped forced final firing/scrap (Oliver was also there around the 60s) plus one one one therapy or group therapy with Mickey, Geoff and Victor helped her learn a healthier mindset (that’s she allowed to be unhappy, believing that’s Crovan’s Gate would sent her to the end of line, asking for help and trying to unlearn a bunch of unhealthy habits and behaviors the guilt of being alive, thinking she got off lucky and that she deserved to be abandoned or sent to Railgate)
She’s eternally grateful of the help for her anxieties and justified fears, especially towards Bear and Stepney who rescued her and James and Sheffield who both know what’s it’s like to accidentally and completely unintentionally kill.
Since the following years of being in the scrapyard (it’s illegal to sent a sentient machine who’s still “alive” and not given the final firing ‘Blair water under their own terms, there’s serve consequences but the 60s is considered to be a dark moment in history cause that was known as the “great sentient scrapping”, it was actually why Oliver escaped in order to avoid illegal scrap merchants, (there were also other deadly methods such as being given the forced final firing while forcing others to witness, the whip, Blair water gets abused a lot cause it determines how quickly a sentient machines “dies” too little they die very slowly over the course of 24 hours so it’s highly recommended to use an entire barrel)
Plus under the influence of green water which lead her to be in and out of consciousness plus her being in a toxic environment where she was teased, bullied and being neglected, being underneath the green water for so long leads to consequences such as hallucinations difficulties distinguishing reality so poor Rebecca either had sleepless dreamless nights or nightmares about the crash, her passengers screams and the injuries she substantiated having a scar over her nose that didn’t heal properly, she wasn’t even fixed when they decided to send her to the scrap siding, the last thing she remembered was them promising to repair her and that it wasn’t her fault before they placed her under the green water influence, which led to her being secretly very fearful of any workshop but she slowly began to heal and recover.

well imagine being twenty years old and having been entirely certain for most of your life that you would never live past that age because you were worthless in most people's eyes apart from your willingness and aptitude for violence, and you knew that especially for a person like you that was never going to lead you anywhere good. and it didn't. you're a dead woman walking trying to fight for a lost cause. and you return home as a dead woman walking to find your friend and your sister are, in fact, doing better than ever with you out of the picture, and then your former friend betrays you. and your older sister, who you always knew everyone valued more than you, and who always had a clearer path to a brighter future while never being able to protect you from your mother or your terrible life, still needs your help. after you've been through hell and she's living in the royal palace. all i'm saying is i forgive ngayu brosca for the killings that i am going to make her commit

Duncan 🤝 Carewyn
After the death of Rowan Khanna, quite a few members of the sixth-year class rallied around her best friend, Carewyn Cromwell, in the pursuit of some justice for their fallen classmate. This led to the creation of the Circle of Khanna, the purpose of which was solely to avenge Rowan by bringing her murderer, Patricia Rakepick, to justice and stop the criminal syndicate Rakepick was a part of, R, from causing any more harm to anyone else. Before long this organization also gained members outside of Rowan's class -- the already-graduated Bill Weasley was one of the group's founding members and arguably its second-in-command after Carewyn, of course, but the group also gained much younger students such as Penny's second year sister Beatrice Haywood, Bill and Charlie's first-year twin brothers Fred and George Weasley, and first-year Hufflepuff magical prodigy Cedric Diggory.
The Circle's most unusual member, however, was the ghost who most commonly occupied the Prefect's Bathroom on the fifth floor -- Duncan Ashe.
In life, Duncan had been friends with Carewyn's older brother, Jacob. When she first met him, Duncan acted very hostile toward the mere mention of Jacob, to the point that she wondered how they ever could've been friends, but over time, as she got to know him better, Carewyn came to see that a lot of Duncan's harsh words toward Jacob were a defense mechanism more than anything, and that he'd truly been very fond of Jacob, even if he had a hard time expressing it. Duncan would even sing with Carewyn sometimes, not just songs she liked, but ones Jacob liked too! And once Jacob was freed from the Portrait Vault and he finally got the opportunity to see Duncan again, even just as a ghost, all remnants of the bitter attitude Carewyn encountered when she first met Duncan had seemingly dissipated. There were even days when Duncan acted legitimately cheerful -- like when he decided to "check in" on Carewyn by poking his head through her Potions textbook while she was studying in the empty Slytherin commonroom.
"You're up well past your curfew, young lady," Duncan's head smirked mischievously at her through the book.
When Carewyn subconsciously dropped it, Duncan laughed, swirling as a translucent shade up into the air over her even as she glared up at him.
"Duncan!" she scolded, clutching her heart. "That's not funny! You scared me half to death!"
Duncan's smirk only broadened as he crossed his arms over his transparent, robed chest. "Hey, it's not my fault you were way too focused on what you were doing to notice your surroundings. Honestly -- you and Jacob really are two of a pair..."
"I was focused because I have a test next week," Carewyn said coolly, leaning over to pick up her book. "I doubt whatever Jacob was focused on was test answers."
Duncan gave a short, bark-like laugh. "Ha! Of course not! More likely he was obsessively comparing illustrations of various dragon breeds, trying to assess the aerodynamics of their respective wing-spans or some nonsense..."
Even while saying this, something oddly fond flickered through Duncan's eyes. It made Carewyn smile a bit more sincerely despite herself.
"Probably..."
Duncan cocked his eyebrows at her expression, and Carewyn had to cover her mouth with her hand to hold in a giggle.
"Sorry, it's just -- when you used to talk about my brother before, it always sounded like you hated him. Even if I know you didn't, really. But now...well, I can't read your emotions as well, with you being a ghost...but I still feel like you're not holding back as much. Like you're being more honest than before."
Carewyn smiled encouragingly at him.
"It's really cool to hear. And to hear about Jacob from you too...I can tell you were really close."
Duncan was so taken aback by this that he actually seemed to flush, his transparent cheeks darkening with gray. He looked away quickly, flustered.
"Oh, don't cod me! I'm not acting in any particular way all of a sudden -- just...just not quite so mad at him anymore, now that we've talked everything out..."
Carewyn smiled a bit more wryly. "I'm glad you did that too. Jacob's never been good with people -- I reckon he was only going to know how you felt when you were finally honest with him -- "
"Oh, eff off, will you?" grumbled Duncan halfheartedly, flushing more gray than ever.
Rather than teasing Duncan further, Carewyn smiled a bit more kindly again.
"I'm serious, Duncan," she said. "I'm glad you and Jacob talked things out. And I'm glad you're happier...after everything you've been through, you deserve it."
Her eyes softened.
"...I'm happy my brother had someone like you. That he still does."
Duncan looked up at Carewyn, that gray flush still clinging to his cheeks. There was something almost unsure about his expression, before it broke into something a little more grounded: a smile touched with a cynical edge.
"...Hm...well, it's not like I could just let your brother throw himself back into danger without any back-up, could I? Or you, for that matter -- you're such a self-sacrificing little thing, I reckon you'd push Jacob right out of the way and chuck yourself in front of the Knight Bus itself, if it came to it -- "
"Shove off," said Carewyn, and Duncan cackled.
"Now then," said the ghost, and he became a bit more serious as he floated down as if to "sit" on the chair closest to her, pretending to prop his arms up on the back of the chair, "what you and Jae Kim were talking about the other day, about infiltrating one of R's meetings. I did some 'investigation' of my own, and I think your new Defense Against the Dark Arts professor might have an allegiance you'll want to know about."
Carewyn raised her eyebrows. "Professor Meyers?"
"Yeah. Turns out that old Huxley thought being a professor at such an illustrious school would have a higher salary. Upon discovering, no, in fact, it doesn't, I reckon it was easy for R to sucker him in with the promise of a little extra scratch on the side, in exchange for information. I caught him using the Floo Network talking to someone who sounded suspiciously like that one R dosser who ordered Jacob come to Knockturn Alley, right before I died...asking how long he'd have to wait for his deposit, in exchange for intel on Dumbledore's most recent outing."
Carewyn's eyes flashed with righteous anger. "So that's how R has been able to keep such close watch on us."
"At least partially," agreed Duncan. "Remember, you've only had this bloke for a year...and probably will have him no more than that, if that myth about the Dark Arts job being cursed is true..."
Carewyn crossed her arms. "Well then, we'll definitely have to keep a close eye on Meyers in the future, so that he doesn't overhear anything he shouldn't..."
Her eyes then lit up with a bit of mischief.
"...Duncan, does Meyers have any inkling that we're onto him?"
"Nope," said Duncan with a smug smirk. "He knows who's your friend and who isn't, of course -- but I don't think he has any clue that you all have been investigating R. I'd hazard a guess that that thick plonker has no idea the Circle of Khanna even exists."
Carewyn's mouth spread into just as broad of a smirk as Duncan's.
"Then maybe we can use R's mole to help us get some information on them, as well," she said decisively. "Do you think you could keep an ear out, in case he has any more interesting 'fireside chats?'"
Duncan's smirk betrayed white teeth. "Hm, I'm sure I could. It's not like I have any classes to occupy my time. And hell -- what's the use of being able to float through walls and doors and not having to answer to the law or any of the Hogwarts teachers if you don't take advantage of it?"

Scientists found an amazingly well-preserved village from 3,000 years ago
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Text below, in case article access dries up:
LONDON — A half-eaten bowl of porridge complete with wooden spoon, communal rubbish bins, and a decorative necklace made with amber and glass beads are just a handful of the extraordinarily well-preserved remnants of a late Bronze Age hamlet unearthed in eastern England that’s been dubbed “Britain’s Pompeii” and a “time capsule” into village life almost 3,000 years ago.
The findings from the site, excavated in 2015 to 2016, are now the subject of two reports, complete with previously unseen photos, published this week by University of Cambridge archaeologists, who said they cast light onto the “cosy domesticity” of ancient settlement life.
“It might be the best prehistoric settlement that we’ve found in Britain,” Mark Knight, the excavation director and a co-author of the reports, said in an interviewThursday. “We took the roofs off and inside was pretty much the contents,” he said. “It’s so comprehensive and so coherent.”
The reason for the rare preservation: disaster.
The settlement, thought to have originally consisted of several large roundhouses made of wood and constructed on stilts above a slow-moving river, was engulfed by a fire less than a year after being built.
During the blaze, the buildings and much of their contents collapsed into a muddy river below that “cushioned the scorched remains where they fell,” the university said of the findings. This combination of charring from the fire and waterlogging led to “exceptional preservation,” the researchers found.
“Because of the nature of the settlement, that it was burned down and its abandonment unplanned, everything was captured,” Knight added.
“As we excavated it, there was that feeling that we were picking over someone else’s tragedy,” he said of the eerie site in the swampy fenland of East Anglia. “I don’t think we could smell the fire but the amount of ash around us — it felt close.”
Researchers said they eventually unearthed four large wooden roundhouses and an entranceway structure, but the original settlement was probably “twice as big.”
The site at Must Farm dates to about 850 B.C., eight centuries before Romans came to Britain. Archaeologists have been shocked at “just how clear the picture is” of late Bronze Age life based on the level of detail uncovered, Knight said.
The findings also showed that the communities lived “a way of life that was more sophisticated than we could have imagined,” Duncan Wilson, head of Historic England, the public body responsible for preserving England’s historic environment, said in a statement.
The findings unearthed include a stack of spears, possibly for hunting or defense; a decorative necklace “with beads from as far away as Denmark and Iran”; clothes of fine flax linen; and a female adult skull rendered smooth, “perhaps a memento of a lost loved one,” the research found.
The inhabitants’ diet was also rich and varied, including boar, pike and bream, along with wheat and barley.
A pottery bowl with the finger marks of its maker in the clay was also unearthed, researchers said, still containing its final meal — “a wheat-grain porridge mixed with animal fats” — with a wooden spatula resting inside the bowl.
“It appears the occupants saved their meat juices to use as toppings for porridge,” project archaeologist Chris Wakefield said in the university’s news release. “Chemical analyses of the bowls and jars showed traces of honey along with ruminant meats such as deer, suggesting these ingredients were combined to create a form of prehistoric honey-glazed venison,” he added.
Skulls of dogs — probably kept as pets and to help with hunting — were also uncovered, and the dogs’ fossilized feces showed they fed on scraps from their owners’ meals, the research found.
The buildings, some connected by walkways, may have had up to 60 people living there all together, Knight said, along with animals.
Although no intact sets of human remains were found at the site, indicating that the inhabitants probably fled the fire safely, several sheep bones were found burned indoors. “Skeletal remains showed the lambs were three to six months old, suggesting the settlement was destroyed sometime in late summer or early autumn,” according to the university’s news release.
Ceramic and wooden vessels including tiny cups, bowls and large storage jars were also found. Some pots were even designed to nest, stacked inside one another, Knight said — evidence of an interest in aesthetics as well as practicality.
A lot of similar items were found replicated in each home, Knight added, painting the picture of completely independent homesteads for each family unit rather than distinct buildings for shared tasks — much like we live today.
Household inventories often included metal tools, loom weights, sickles for crop harvesting, axes and even handheld razors for cutting hair.
The roundhouses — one of which had almost 50 square meters (nearly 540 square feet) of floor space — had hearths and insulated straw and clay roofs. Some featured activity zones for cooking, sleeping and working akin to modern-day rooms.
The Must Farm settlement has produced the largest collection of everyday Bronze Age artifacts ever discovered in the United Kingdom, according to Historic England, which partly funded the 1.1 million pound ($1.4 million) excavation project.
The public body labeled the site a “time capsule,” including almost 200 wooden artifacts, over 150 fiber and textile items, 128 pottery vessels and more than 90 pieces of metalwork. Some items will go on display at the nearby Peterborough Museum next month.
Archaeologists never found a “smoking gun” cause for the fire, Knight said. Instead, they suspect it was either an attack from “outside forces,” which may explain why the inhabitants never returned to collect their possessions from the debris, or an accidental blaze that spread rapidly across the tightly nestled homes.
“Probably all that was left was the people and what they were wearing; everything else was left behind,” Knight said of the fire.
But the preservation has left a window for people to look back through in the future. “You could almost see and smell their world,” he said.
“The only thing that was missing was the inhabitants,” Knight added. “And yet … I think they were there — you certainly got glimpses.”
