Villain Creation System Chapter 5
Pairing/s: Invincible x Reader x Invincible Variants
Author's note: It feels forever since the last time I published a chapter. Anyway, I apologize in advance for any grammar mistakes or missing words or other editing mistakes. I'm posting this at four in the morning and I'm groggy as heck. I'll fix any mistakes when I wake up again in... I dunno, six hours? edit: Geez I really was groggy when I wrote this, look at that many "mistakes" 😭
CHAPTER 4: Just Cut Their Red Thread of Fate Series Masterlist <<read the synopsis and trigger warnings first>>
The digital sprout on your phone has grown into a digital tree in the past twenty-four minutes and fifty-eight seconds. You watched the timer hit zero–it played two short rings, signaling that it was time for a break.
Amber groaned as she stretched her arms over the table, laying her cheek on the handouts you insisted that she print. “God, finally.“
“Refill?” Your lips pursed towards the empty coffee mug she pushed towards the window.
“Nah, if I drink anymore I won’t be able to sleep later.”
You nodded and picked up your frappe, all pink and sparkly. According to the barista, it was tradition to have a unique beverage for every quarterly exam week. This princess glitter concoction was this week’s special. You planned on trying everything The Mug could offer. It was fun.
“I can’t believe someone actually ordered that thing, does it even taste good?”
You pried off the plastic cover and used your straw to scrape off the remaining whipped cream. “No, it tastes exactly like it looks like.” It was like sipping on a cotton candy. Just pure sugar.
“Then stop slurping it.”
“It would be a waste not to finish it, and besides, the carbs help me think. Makes studying easier.” You were going to regret having this much sugar when you crash out eventually, but that is future you’s problem.
“You know, I’ve been thinking about this but ever since we first met, I think I’ve only ever seen you take notes on your notebook or typing in your laptop. You’re like a study addict,” she teased. “What’s your secret to getting into the groove?”
You shrugged. “I just like how simple it is.”
“Simple?” She gawked.
“I work hard and I get rewarded.”
Amber observed you for a moment. You wondered if she thought you were lonely, because if she did then you’d be offended. No one forced you into your bubble, you genuinely enjoyed school. Life was predictable in the world of academics. If you study for a test, you get a high score. There was beauty in its simplicity. Comfort, even.
“You know,” Amber said, “My sorority sisters and I’ve been planning a party for after the exams, you should come.”
“A party?” You’ve been to parties in your past life. The delightful ones were with close friends, but the rest? Mandatory crap. You smiled so much your risorius muscle must’ve hypertrophied in your old body.
[Host, this may be a good reconnaissance opportunity.]
I know that, you hissed back inside your mind. You and Amber weren’t exactly buddies, and despite your repeated interactions, you could never bring yourself to inquire about Eve or Mark. This college party was the window of opportunity you have been waiting for.
With a heavy heart, you grinned at Amber. “Sure, I’d love to go.”
Your phone sent out two short rings. Break’s over.
Amber threw her head back, a disappointed sound left her throat. You smiled for real this time.
***
“22 out of 30.” A deep line formed between Amber’s eyebrows when you finished checking her mock test.
“That’s… not good,” she whispered.
You put away your red pen. “You got 73% of the questions right, that is a major improvement from your past scores.” Originally, she could barely get past 50%.
However, instead of feeling relief, Amber continued to stare at the red x’s all over.
You knew that look.
You tried to find the correct words. Amber was a hard worker, and she was a star student in her high school, but college is different.
You drew awkward circles on the table as you spoke, “Listen, the minimum passing level for the biochemistry exam is 65%, you got this.”
But your statement just made her brows knit closer together.
Before you could say another word, a familiar clean scent wafted into your nose.
“Room for one more?” Mark asked, holding his usual order of black coffee and eggdesal.
You and Amber regarded him with surprise, followed by mild annoyance.
“You don’t mind, do you?” He added, gesturing around him; the place was packed full of zombified young adults. “You know what exam week does to coffee shops.”
Amber crossed her arms. “Seriously, when did you start hanging around coffee shops?” She glanced at you and briefly explained, “Mark hates dining at cafés.”
“What? You’re joking.”
“It’s true.”
You turned to Mark, who simply shrugged.
“What can I say?” He smiled at you. “Something about this place is different from the others.”
Amber’s eyes darted between the two of you, the gears in her head rapidly turning.
She put her hands on the table and stood. “Mark, can I talk to you for a second? Alone?”
“We can just chat here.”
“I–”
Her phone vibrated, interrupting her. She checked the sender.
“That Kyle?” That was the name of Amber’s boyfriend. “He’s got perfect timing.”
She shot Mark a glare and began packing her things. “This isn’t over,” she warned.
“Sure, sure.”
Amber sent you an apologetic look. “He’s already a few minutes away, I–”
“It’s fine. We’re already done, anyway.”
She nodded, glared at Mark again, and hurried out of her seat.
You waited for Amber to disappear through the wooden door before looking at Mark, who wasted no time filling the empty chair.
He wore a black long-sleeved top and a pair of ripped jeans. His hair looked darker tonight, it was damp, like he went straight to here after a fresh shower.
You spoke with the system and demanded to know why it didn’t warn you that he was in the area.
The system, who got bored listening to you drone on about the pentose phosphate pathway and decided to read the Kama Sutra (“for research” it claims), had only realized what was happening when Mark Grayson started hitting on you. It could only avert its gaze and whistle in response.
So much for having a nigh-omniscient divine artificial intelligence as an assistant.
Irritated, you turned your attention to the grinning Mark in front of you.
“Why don’t you like eating at cafés?”
“Amber was exaggerating.”
“I see. Well, you can have the whole table. See ya.” It was your turn to start packing.
“Hey, hey, wait, I just got here.”
“So?”
“Ow. At least have dinner first?”
“Mark,” you said, cocking an eyebrow at him, “it’s already twelve in the morning.”
He checked his watch. “Oh.” He looked at you. “Don’t you have, I dunno, notes to digitize or something?”
“No.” You were already on your feet. “Tonight was reserved for tuto–” you caught yourself, “–for studying with Amber. With her gone, all that’s left to do is go home and get some rest.”
His shoulders fell.
Your heart tinged with something akin to guilt. Building a relationship with him is important, but you were expecting a sugar crash any minute now, one that will definitely make you lose affinity points.
However…
A sad pretty boy was hard to ignore.
The system started eating popcorn. Its older colleagues claimed that popcorn tasted best when witnessing drama. Watching its Host struggle with emotions brought it inexplicable bliss.
It played a melancholic violin and used its holographic ability to project dog ears onto Mark’s head.
[What are you going to do now, Host? Are you planning on turning your back on such a handsome, crying face?]
Clicking your tongue, you sat back down, prompting Mark to look up.
You crossed your arms and asked, “Is the yogurt parfait here any good?”
He tilted his head.
“Yeah,” he replied, confused.
You refused to meet his gaze.
His peach lips then parted into a bright smile. “One parfait coming up.”
[Ding. Affection: 29%. Darkening: 6%.]
The system spat out its popcorn and rolled around laughing with its hypothetical body.
Mark was not beating the masochist allegations in your mind.
[Technically, Host, I think it would be more appropriate to call him a submissive.]
Who cares?!
You exhaled.
Hey…
[Yes, Host?]
Does he look sad to you tonight?
[His facial expressions and body language haven’t changed much so to me he is the same as usual. What would make you think otherwise?]
Just a feeling, you thought, watching his back as he leaned closer to the cashier, likely flirting again.
[Is the Host jealous?]
You scoffed.
Why would I be jealous? He flirts with everyone.
[If you say so.]
You could feel the little brat smirking. If it had a physical body you would very much like to chuck it to the nearest garbage can, or maybe an open fire.
While you were in the middle of conjuring the best way to execute your system, Mark returned with a large yogurt parfait.
“Your midnight snack, madam.”
“Ew.” The hair on your neck stood at the title. “Never call me that again.” You would rather he call you–
“Whatever you say, princess.”
Tsk.
[Pft.]
Mark swiped several tissue papers from the dispenser on the table and wiped the parfait spoon before handing it over.
When you reached to take it, your fingers grazed his. It was brief, barely a feather’s touch, but it sent warmth up your arm and to your chest.
[Affection: 30%.]
You decided to focus on eating your parfait.
Mark had a similar idea, preferring to eat his egg sandwich without making a peep.
The silence between you was filled by the faint cacophony of students typing on their laptops and scribbling on their tablets, the clinking of metal and ceramic and glass, and an instrumental rendition of Blues in the Night.
Barring the circumstances that brought you here, this was nice. If you ever found someone before you had died, would you have spent your free time with him in a coffee place like this one?
In life, the closest you’ve ever been to romance were books and dating sims, and those things have irreversibly warped your standards.
“Penny for your thoughts?” Mark broke the silence, dipping the rest of the bread in his coffee.
You wanted to snap and tell him that you were too exhausted to think, that he should’ve just taken his order to-go or eat alone like a grownup, but you don’t.
You snuck a glimpse of him. Dark circles haunted his . He seemed paler, too.
“I was just thinking about what constitutes an ideal date.”
His face brightened. “Are you finally going to let me peek into that brilliant brain of yours?”
“I’m not brilliant.”
“Amber would beg to differ, and so would Professor Harper.”
“Amber?” You understood Professor Harper, but why Amber?
“Yeah, she talks about you a lot, says you’re really smart.”
“You talk about me?”
“Sometimes.”
“With Amber?”
His grin turned wicked. “Jealous?”
You could hear the system restraining its amusement.
You ignored the ticking in your eye and took a big scoop of parfait. “Don’t be ridiculous.”
He reclined on his seat. “Got any questions for me? Besides Amber, I mean.” Great, now he was laughing at you. Excellent.
“I have nothing to say to you.” You had a lot, actually. You wanted to know about his mom, his missing dad, whether or not he has met Eve. You wanted to be done with this mission world. You wanted to be done with all of this.
“Are you sure?”
You paused. “Actually, I do have a question. Did you finish reading that book?”
Brown widened with surprise, then they twinkled. “‘That book’? Sweetheart, what do you take me for? I finished Professor Harper’s entire reading list.”
Your jaw slacked. “That… is impressive.” Although maybe the reading was to compensate considering how he’s been missing class the past week.
He made a hair flipping motion. “I know. Brains, beauty–is there anything I can’t do?”
“Eat alone in a coffee shop, apparently.”
He chuckled dryly.
[Ding. Affection: 27%. Darkening: 6.3%.]
You inhaled too fast and the slender spoon got sucked inside your throat. Both hands flew over your neck as you squawked out for help.
[Host!!]
Mark vanished from across the table and was instantly by your side. He bent you forward and struck you between the shoulder blades once, twice–
The spoon shot out of you and bounced three times on the table.
Mark’s voice came out softly, “You okay?”
Before you could answer, the whole floor applauded.
Blood rushed to your cheeks and you became hyper-aware of the protective palm on your back.
You looked up and saw his eyes overflowing with concern.
“Princess?”
You felt like throwing up.
***
Good news: You didn’t throw up. You apologized to the staff and promptly left.
Bad news: Mark followed you out.
“I’m walking you home.” There was no room for negotiation in his tone as he took your bag from you. You reluctantly let him because you had a feeling that any protesting wouldn’t have stopped him from trailing after you.
It’s not like you didn’t appreciate the offer. After all, it doesn’t matter how prestigious a university is, there is always a chance of getting attacked on campus property. But after your little scene, you truly wanted to be alone, as in, may the ground crack open and swallow me whole alone.
But now he was with you, and he hasn’t spoken a word since you two left The Mug. Silence was nothing new between you and Mark, in fact, what you liked about him besides his uncontested physical appearance was the fact that he also enjoyed quiet moments when they were there.
That being said, you weren’t sure whether you preferred this… this soundless noise over his endless teasing.
When two people get into an argument and one of them leaves to cool off and then gets hit by a car, that’s an accident. The two people are innocent, they shouldn’t feel shame–but the one who didn’t leave the house to cool off is still going to somehow blame themselves.
Logically, you understood that there was nothing wrong with what happened. It was an accident. But reason alone cannot stop emotion.
“Mark,” you said, still looking forward as you walked.
“Yeah?”
Your mouth opened and closed, and opened and closed. You regretted saying his name. It hung in the air and now the silence grew louder.
You glanced at him from the corner of your eye. His lips were twitching.
Son of a–
You planted your feet on the ground, prompting him to stop walking too. “You’re laughing? You’re actually laughing?”
To his credit, Mark actually tried to keep his poker face for a little longer. His tongue pushed against the inside of his cheek until he couldn’t contain himself.
“Pft–”
[Pfft–]
Two very different beings from two very different planes of existence united together in a chorus of wild belly laughter.
You missed the quiet already.
“It’s not that funny,” you mumbled, feeling hot.
“I’m sorry–I–I’m sorry but it is.”
[He’s right, Host, it was quite the sight. If he didn’t save you in time your death might have been nominated for an award.]
The system nodded to itself, pleased. It knew its Host had potential! Unintentional death by spoon would have been one for the books.
You waited for Mark to calm down into mere huffing. “Are you done?”
He wiped a tear and stood up straight. “There’s never a dull moment when you’re around, princess.”
“Wow. Thanks. That almost sounds like a compliment.”
“It is one. I’ll keep giving you compliments until you can tell immediately.”
“That won’t be necessary.” You continued walking. “Let’s go.”
You didn’t have to look to know that his gaze was on you. You had a hunch he was smirking too.
It was annoying how fixated he could get with you, but you tolerated it better now. Dare you say, you even enjoyed the attention, though you would sooner stab your own hand than admit that to him or anybody else.
The system, who realized its Host is not immune to human romantic feelings: (ㅅ´ ˘ `)
Not. A. Word.
[Whatever you say, Host.]
You yearned for the sweet embrace of your bed, so upon reaching your building, you grabbed the straps of your backpack and swiped it away from Mark. “Thanks for walking me.”
“You know, I’d be happier to hear that if you didn’t sound like a robot.”
You narrowed your eyes. “I’ll store that information for future assessment. This robot will not keep you any longer–”
His fingers wrapped around your wrist weakly.
You were about to give him what for when he stated, “I play bass in a band.”
Oh, yeah. “Indigo Muse, right?”
His next sentences came in rapid succession. “We got a gig this Saturday, at a club called Wisteria, and I know you hate concerts but I’d really like it if you came and watched us.”
Brown eyes pleading, his smirk was nowhere to be found. This was unlike the confident man you’ve come to know.
He was desperate, bordering on pathetic.
It was…heh…cute.
The system froze.
Mark watched your reaction, but your face was unreadable.
“It’s an open invite, you don’t have to–”
“I’ll go.” You squeezed his hand. “Just email me the details.”
Recovering from surprise, he also recovered his smirk. “Who uses email?”
“It’s easier for us robots to keep track of information with email than text message.”
You let go before he did, fingers sliding past each other, unwilling to part.
“Good night, Mark.”
You turned on your heels. “Don’t forget that email. I’m not going anywhere unless I’m sure about the dress code.”
“Yes, ma’am.”
You didn’t have any energy left to correct him.
[Ding. Affection: 32%. Darkening: 6.3%.]
It wasn’t until you managed to trudge back to your unit and fell on the mattress did the system speak up.
[Host, I would like to apologize.]
For what?
[It would seem my putting dog ears on a sad Mark Grayson has awakened something in you.]

Alright, here’s the arrival of part 3 of “Just Tired”. I’m so glad that there’s been so much interest in this series! I’m wanting to make this series as realistic as possible for someone going through it as I still struggle with the trauma for when I went through it, even though I escaped him at the end of 2021. Not edited in the slightest and I hope you like it!
On another note: I was listening to Angel Eyes by ABBA as it seemed fitting lol. Would have posted this earlier but I was watching the chiefs get their asses handed to them. Go Birds! 🦅
Part 1 Part 2 Part 4 Part 5 Part 6 Part 7 Part 8 Part 9 Part 10 Part 11 Part 12 Part 13 Part 14 Part 15 Part 16 Part 17 Part 18 Part 19 Part 20 Part 21 Part 22 Part 23 Part 24 Part 25 Part 26
Just Tired -Part 3
Warnings: Manipulation relationship, small masturbation part, Melissa going through some confusion
Words: 3.75
You awake at 5am to your alarm going off and you shut it off before you get ready. You hop in the shower and in there you can’t help your mind drift to Melissa and how beautiful she looks, even when she was downright ignoring you.
“Stop it, mind! She’s married.” You remind yourself. But that doesn’t stop your hand from wandering down to your clit and start circling it.
You lean against the shower wall and close your eyes as you picture Melissa being there. You imagine how her lips would feel all over you, how she might make you come. Would she want to use her tongue or her fingers or even a strap? You honestly wouldn’t say no to any of those if she was asking. You then feel yourself right at the edge and you start circling faster and then you come. You quickly have your shower and then you get ready and leave at 6:30. You walk up to her house at 6:58 and you knock on her door. She opens the door a few seconds later and she takes your breath away.
“Hey Y/n, just gotta grab my things then we can go.” She says and you nod.
“Alright.” You say and then take a step back and watch as she gathers all her things. When you step back you notice her ‘Go Away!’ welcome mat and you snort. “Nice mat.” You tell her as she steps outside and she smiles.
“It’s to ward off unwanted visitors.” She says as she locks the door.
“Does it work?”
“Most of the time, yes.” She says and you both walk to her car. “Apparently it doesn’t work on family.” She adds and you smile.
“Good to know.” You tell her. “So you giving me rides, does this make us acquaintances?” You ask her and she looks at you before starting the car.
“No, this is me just helping someone in need, and I’m not going out of my way to help them.”
“So you have a heart then.” You say and she rolls her eyes at you before bringing the car onto the street. “So is the husband not up?” You ask her and she shakes her head.
“He doesn’t get up until another half hour. He doesn’t have to be at the fire station until 9.” She tells you.
“He’s a firefighter?” You ask her and she nods.
“Yep.” She says and you take your phone out and go on your social media. You look up Melissa on Facebook and then you click on the name where it says who she’s married to and see a picture of him.
“And what exactly do you see in this… Joe?” You ask her and she looks at you quickly before turning her attention back to the road.
“Did you just look at my account?” She asks.
“Obviously. But what exactly do you see in him? I mean there’s ones much better looking than him.” You tell her and she quirks an eyebrow at you. “I’m gay not blind.” You tell her and she snorts.
“We met in college and he was really nice to me. He kept talking to me, giving me gifts that he knew I’d like, listening to what I say, wanting to spend all his free time with me, even before he asked me out.” She tells you and two words come to your mind when she says this, love bombing. You don’t say anything as it’s not your place and it was probably like over 20 years ago and you’re sure things are different now.
“So why are you so closed off?” You ask her to change the subject.
“You ask a lot of questions, you know that?” She asks.
“I don't normally, only when something catches my interest.” You say and she quirks an eyebrow at you.
“And I caught your interest?” She asks and you nod.
“You seem like an interesting person, and you wanting to say nothing about your life only makes you more interesting. You’re a mystery.” You tell her.
“And I like to remain a mystery.” She tells you.
“You know I could probably just ask Barb questions about if I really want, I mean you two seem close.” You say.
“Barb and I have been best friends for over a decade and she knows I like my privacy. She won’t tell you a thing.” She says to you and you lean back in the seat and pout.
“Are we close enough for me to at least know your favourite colour?” You ask her.
“It’s pink.” She says and you give her a weird look. “What?”
“The badass of Abbott likes pink? I would have never guessed that.”
“What’s wrong with pink?”
“It’s seen as a colour for little girls, especially when Barbie came out.” You explain.
“Alright, what colour do you like?” She asks.
“F/C.”
“Ok, interesting.” She says as she pulls up into the parking lot of Abbott and then you both get out and walk into the building.
*In the break room*
“I’m telling you that I saw Melissa purposely go up and start talking to Y/n. And not only that but it seemed like there was some attraction there as well.” Janine tells Jacob.
“It doesn’t matter for Melissa if there’s attraction, she’s married to a nice ma… she’s married.” Barb tells them. “She has never cheated on him and she doesn’t intend to. And has never thought about leaving him either…even though she should.” Barb adds and she gets a weird look from Janine and Jacob.
Just then you and Melissa both enter the break room and everyone looks at you both.
“What are youse looking at?” Melissa asks them.
“This is the third day where you get here at the same time.” Jacob says as you go to sit down with him and Janine.
“We just end up getting here at the same time. Is that a crime?” You ask them.
“Ok what about yesterday? I saw Melissa and you talking and smiling.” Janine asks you.
“Janine, what exactly are you asking?” You ask her and cross your arms.
“Is there an attraction between you two?” She bluntly asks. “You have mentioned you’re into hot older gingers and Melissa fits that.” She adds.
“Ok, first of all, Melissa and I were talking about our job yesterday as she was nice enough to give me pointers. Second of all, yes Melissa is a hot older ginger but she’s married and we’re not even acquaintances as Melissa very clearly told me that she barely talks to newbies.” You tell everyone and they shut up after that.
“So what pointers did Melissa give you yesterday?” Janine asks after a couple minutes.
“She told me to not do my lesson plan so far in advance and expect to fall behind, don’t be too stressed that it’s my first year of teaching on my own and she generously took a look at my first week lesson plan and said it was good and the kids will enjoy it.” You tell them and you weren’t lying as Melissa did actually tell you all those things.
“Melissa, you gave her that advice?” Barb asks her and Melissa nods.
“I don’t like communicating with newbies but the kid looked like she was gonna have a panic attack, I wasn’t gonna sit by and do nothing.” Melissa tells her.
“Oh Janine and Jacob, would you help me hang a few things that require 2 people?” You ask them and they immediately nod.
“As long as it’s not on a ladder.” Janine says and you nod.
“You’re not climbing a ladder, it’s not high.” You tell her.
Melissa watches from her desk as you and Jacob hang some stuff up and Janine directs you both to make sure it’s straight. Melissa’s mind starts to wander. She doesn’t know why but you seem to have caught her interest a bit. Her telling you her husband doesn’t forgive her just honestly slipped out and she doesn’t why she said it. Of course her husband forgives her every time. And then she tries to remember when was the last time he said he’s sorry and she can’t remember.
“I’m telling you it’s straight.” She hears Janine says.
“It doesn’t look straight to me.” She hears you counter. She then gets up and leans against her doorframe with her arms crossed. She sees you and Janine a few feet away from her and you’re looking at your board.
“You two are loud.” She says and catches both of your attention.
“How about we ask Melissa?” You tell Janine.
“No, she’ll just side with you as you’re friends.” Janine counters.
“Ya, we’re not friends.” Melissa says and goes to stand beside Janine and looks at the board. “And it’s not straight.” She says and sees you sticking your tongue out at Janine. “It’s a little high on the left.” She adds and then goes back to her door. “Try to keep it down this time.” She says and then walks inside her classroom.
At lunchtime she gets there before anyone else does and takes a few seconds to decompress as she gets her salad out. Everyone else comes in about a minute later and Barb gets her lunch and sits down and immediately notices Melissa is looking stressed.
“Are you alright?” Barb asks her.
“Ya, just a headache.” Melissa says softly.
Barb knows that she’s lying. But she also knows Melissa enough to know that she’s not ready to say anything and she’ll tell her when she is ready.
“Want some ibuprofen?” You ask since you heard as you were at the coffee maker. “I always carry some as I can get some painful cramps when menstruating. And that’s probably too much information.” You immediately say and it gets Melissa to crack a smile.
“It’s not that type of headache, but thanks hon.” Melissa tells you and you nod.
“Want some coffee? New batch is ready.” You offer and she nods and gives you her coffee mug.
“Thanks kid.” She says as you hand her the mug back with coffee.
“Y/n, do you have any plans this weekend?” Janine asks you as you join her and Jacob at the table.
“Probably just watch the game, I hope the Eagles hand the cowboys their asses.” You say and you don’t notice Melissa smiling at that comment.
“What about you?” You ask her and she goes into some detailed plan about what her and Tariq are doing this weekend.
When lunch ends, you all get up to go but Melissa stops you and Janine.
“Just wanted to let you both know that around February is when I do this Peter Rabbit art project with the kids and each of your second graders can join as well.” She says to you both.
“Oh that sounds exciting. What do they usually make?” You ask her.
“A rabbit face from paper plates.” She says.
“Oh that sounds fun, definitely count my class in as it sounds exciting. Y/n is your class going to join?” Janine asks.
“Definitely count my class in as well, they’ll enjoy that.” You tell Melissa and she nods before she goes back to her classroom.
At the end of the day, you pack up your things and you head out the door and you run into Jacob and Janine and you have a conversation with them for a few minutes before they both head to their cars. You start to head to the bus stop when Melissa stops you.
“My car is the other way.” She tells you and you turn around to face her.
“I didn't know how long your offer was by driving me home.” You tell her.
“Until you can get gas in your car.” She says and you smile before following her to her car. You both don’t notice everyone watching you both as you get in Melissa’s car.
“Thanks again.” You tell her as you do up your seatbelt and she pulls out. “So how long have you done the Peter Rabbit project for?” You ask her.
“Since I started working here, almost 15 years ago.” She tells you. “By the way, do you really think I’m hot?” She asks you and you furrow your eyebrows. “You told Janine that in the break room this morning.” She clarifies.
“Well of course you are. You honestly don’t need all that makeup.” You tell her and you see her smiling and a hint of a blush on the cheek that you see.
Melissa gets home a few minutes after dropping you off and she immediately goes to the kitchen for a glass of wine. She takes a deep breath after she takes a few sips and puts her head in her hands. She keeps getting compliments and praises from you and she doesn’t know how to react. She then realises that it’s been awhile since she received any from Joe and a tear slips down her cheek but she quickly wipes it off.
“Don’t cry, I’m not sensitive.” She tells herself and takes a big sip of her wine.
She has 2 glasses of wine and ends up falling asleep on the couch. When Joe gets home, he leaves her be and goes to reheat leftovers and watches tv in the bedroom. Melissa gets home a couple hours later and immediately goes to eat. After she eats she hears the tv on upstairs and goes to see Joe.
“Finally awake?” Joe asks her and she nods her head.
“You could have woken me up.” She tells him.
“I wanted to watch tv by myself anyway without being asked for cuddles or any kisses.” He tells her.
“I’m sorry, I know sometimes I might be too needy and I’m trying not to be.” She tells him and she goes downstairs to watch tv by herself.
She falls asleep on the couch again and wakes up around 4am. She gets her phone out and sees that it’s dead so she charges it as she makes breakfast. She eats and then she puts some in a container for Joe when he gets up. She gets ready for work and then she goes outside a few minutes early and sees you pull up on your bike.
“I woke up late but I don’t remember biking being this tiring.” You tell her and she shakes her head at you.
“You can leave it in the backyard for now.” She tells you and you nod. You come back out a couple minutes later and you get in the car.
The car ride this time was pretty quiet as you tried to make conversation but wasn’t getting replies. She pulls up 10 minutes later and you both get out and walk inside. This time you actually don’t head to the break room, you turn into your hallway and head to your classroom instead. It takes Melissa about 30 seconds to notice as she was in her own world and wanted to question you but you were too far ahead.
“Did you and Y/n not arrive at the same time today?” Barb asks her.
“No, I saw her come in, she went to her classroom for whatever reason.” Melissa explains.
“Interesting thing yesterday, I saw her get in your car when we were all leaving for the day.” Barb says and everyone looks at Melissa.
“Oh, well that’s none of youse businesses.” Melissa says. Right after she says that, you walk in and you head straight for the coffee machine.
“Y/n, we all saw you go in Melissa’s car yesterday.” Janine immediately tells you and you shrug.
“Cool.” Is all you say and pour yourself a cup and head back to your classroom. Janine and Jacob sensed something must be wrong and follow you out.
“So Melissa, now that we’re alone, want to tell me what’s happening?” Barb asks Melissa.
“On Tuesday I saw Y/n on the side of the road in my neighbourhood and she said she ran out of gas. I’ve just been giving her rides as she lives like a minute away from me, that’s all.” Melissa explains.
“Well that’s nice of you.” Barb says and really looks at Melissa. “Is something wrong?”
“What do you think of Joe?” Melissa asks her and Barb tilts her head.
“What do you mean?”
“Well Y/n has actually given me compliments in the week she’s been here, more compliments than Joe has given me in the past year. So what does that say?” Melissa asks her.
“That Joe doesn’t give compliments.” Barb simply says. “Melissa, I’ve given my opinion on Joe many times over a decade ago and you always gave reasons why I was wrong. I stopped trying as you kept defending your marriage with him.”
“Well you never had a lot of nice opinions about him but you never knew him like I do.” Melissa states.
“You’re right, I don’t. And I hope he’s changed since then.” Barb says and goes back to her cup of coffee.
*Your classroom*
“So you went on a date 2 months ago with a girl, but stayed friends and she invited you to watch the game at a bar this weekend?” Janine says and you nod.
“I thought like everyone else that she’d just forget me and we’d never talk again.” You tell them.
“So you have a new friend, what’s the problem?” Jacob asks you.
“She’s a little crazy.” You tell them. “I’m just hoping that after the game, she never wants to speak to me again.” You add.
Melissa gets to her classroom and sees your door is closed but can see Jacob and Janine standing near your desk from the little window on the door.
The morning goes by quickly for Melissa, and before she knows it, it’s lunchtime and she heads to the break room and gets her lunch.
“So I was notified this morning by a parent of one of my students that I’m getting.” You say to Janine and Jacob.
“And what did they want?” Janine asks.
“They wanted to let me know that they tested their daughter over the summer and apparently this kid is dyslexic.” You tell them and that catches Melissa’s attention and she turns around to look at you.
“Do you know how to teach a dyslexic child?” Melissa asks you and you shake your head.
“No, but I could just google some ways to help her.” You tell her and she nods and goes on her phone.
You go to your classroom and an hour later Melissa walks in and closes your door behind her and walks up to your desk where you’re arranging some papers.
“Melissa, what can I-”
“Can you switch the dyslexic kid over to my class?” She asks you and you tilt your head.
“Why?” You ask her.
“I can help her better.” She states and you furrow your eyebrows.
“Look I know I’m new but I’m pretty sure I’m not an idiot.” You say and she sighs.
“It’s not about you being new, it’s the fact that you can’t relate to her.” She says and the gears in your head are turning until it dawns on you.
“You’re dyslexic?” You ask her and she nods.
“I haven’t had a student who’s dyslexic and I feel like I can help her the same way that I was.” She says and you smile.
“Of course, want to go to the principal to make the transfer right now?” You ask her and she looks taken back.
“Wait, you’re not going to say no?” She asks and you shrug.
“Since you’re dyslexic then you might be the best teacher to help her.” You tell her and you go to your door. “Come on, let’s go see Principal Coleman.” You say and she follows you to Ava’s office.
“What do you two want?” Ava asks you.
“We want to transfer a student from my class to Melissa’s class.” You tell her and she rolls her eyes before she gets to one of the women in the office and you follow her.
“Can you do a classroom transfer?” She asks her and the woman nods. “She’ll help you with that.” Ava tells you both and you nod.
“Thank you.” You say and you and Melissa get the transfer done. “I’ll also send you the email that the parents sent me. They said a couple ways that they’ve noticed have helped her.” You tell Melissa on the way back and she nods.
“Ok, thank you.” She tells you and you nod.
“I’ll also notify the parents and tell them about the transfer.” You tell her and she nods. “Do you mind if I tell them that you’re dyslexic as well?” You ask her.
“No, that’s alright. It’ll probably make them happier that their daughter’s teacher has the same thing.” She says.
“Alright, I’ll forward you the email right away.” You tell her and go inside your classroom.
Melissa receives the email a few minutes later and sees the ways to best help her and writes it down.
She goes through the rest of what she needs to get done and finishes about an hour before the day ends. She stays on her phone for the rest of the day and waits a few minutes for you in the parking lot.
“You waited for me?” You ask her as she’s leaning against her car.
“Well I offered you rides, plus your bike is at my place.” She says. “I’m gonna drive to my place and you can bike home.” She tells you and you nod.
“Sounds good.” You say.
Melissa drives you both to her place and you go to get your bike right away.
“Hey Melissa.” You say as you come out with your bike and she looks at you. “I can probably actually just bike to and from school.”
“You ran out of breath biking for like 5 minutes. How are you going to survive for another 30 minutes?” She asks you and you shrug. “Mm, I’ll see you Monday at 7.” She tells you and then goes inside. You put your helmet on, get on your bike and start biking back home. Melissa watches from the window as you leave and she sighs. “What the fuck am I doing?” She says out loud and goes to get some wine and chocolate.

4 times you meet Red Robin, 1 time you meet Tim Drake
A/N: Sorry for disappearing these last few months. I’m not dead but I am in a serious depressive episode and you know what that means. Time to write.
Content warnings: Angst, Kidnapping, reader dissociates, they don’t get along at first, eventual fluff, this is my first time writing for Tim sorry if he’s OOC, uhhh cursing probably, let me know if I missed anything
Soulmate!Tim Drake x Soulmate!gn!Reader
————
1.
From your seat on the frosty park bench you watch the thin red thread bob in the winter wind, lit only by the pale light that is filtering down from the streetlight above you. You watch the string dance with mild interest, jerking your pinky at random intervals to make it flutter one way or another. No matter which way it sways however, you know where it will always lead. To your soulmate.
His name is Red Robin, or in other words, Tim Drake. One of the richest men in Gotham who just so happens to also be a crime fighting vigilante. A closely guarded secret that you only know thanks to a subtle design flaw in the universe. Television.
Ever since the third Robin made his first official appearance you knew. You could see the red strand trailing off his pinky, and, upon asking your father, discovered it was only you who could see it. It was at that moment, all of 14 years old, that you unofficially met your soulmate. It was at that moment, that your life was permanently altered, for better or worse.
At first, your stomach kicked in excitement. Your soulmate was a vigilante! You simply couldn’t belive your luck. You scoured the internet for any information on him, becoming one of his biggest fans in a matter of hours.
Your obsession lasted all of a few months. It came to a screeching halt when a photo of Robin kissing Spoiler was leaked. You felt your heart break, the pieces jumping up into your throat to choke you on your own disappointment and sadness.
The worst part? You knew you had no right to feel the way you did. Robin had no clue you even existed. His soulmate could be half way across the world and it become clear to you that he wasn’t intent on finding them. On finding you.
In that moment of heartbreak and spite you made a choice that would follow you for years to come. If Robin didn’t want to find you, you didn’t want to find Robin.
It wasn’t until several years later, when you were watching a broadcast of a Wayne gala out of sheer desperation to cure your crippling boredom that you first laid eyes on Tim Drake.
You sat in bored silence, letting the stream playing on your computer become background noise as you mindlessly scrolled through your phone, when suddenly an interview playing on your computer catches your attention. A man in a sleek suit with a face that you’re sure you’ve seen on tiktok before is leaning next to a man that you only recognize thanks to the name edited over the video for the sake of the viewers. Tim Drake, isn’t that guy a millionaire or something?
Pulling your attention back to the video, the interviewer is questioning him at record speed and Drake, for his credit, looks entirely unbothered. If it weren’t for the quickly concealed circles under his eyes and the way he periodically glances over his shoulder with a glazed over look, you might even say he’s enjoying the night.
As you watch Drake be interviewed, a dancing red string in the background catches your eye, stealing your breath. You watch it flitter in the background behind Drake’s head, almost as if it’s teasing you, daring you to do something with the information you now posses. You watch as Drake goes to tuck a piece of hair behind his ear, the small knotted string on his pinky finger unknowingly showing you the identity of Red Robin. It crossed your mind for a half second that they may be different people, but a quick google search reinforced what you already knew. Two different soulmates produced two different strings. You very clearly only had one.
You had laid awake all night, wondering if this changed anything, questioning if you should do something with this information. You couldn’t tell anyone, you knew that for certain. That might put him in danger and despite not even knowing the man personally, despite every fraction of your heart telling you to hurt him in anyway you could for what he’d done to you, you knew that you couldn’t live with yourself if he came to harm because of you.
And so, you bit your tongue, swallowed the ever burning desire to track down your soulmate, if only to scream in his face, and continued on with your life. Whenever the urge to track him down reared its ugly head you reminded yourself of the many photos you’d seen of him kissing someone, someone much more attractive than you. Someone who can keep up with him. Someone better. Why in the world would he want you?
The months after you found out Red Robin’s identity flew by, and despite having come to terms with it months ago, tonight you couldn’t sleep. Your room seemed to suffocate you, urging you to get some fresh air, the window of your room proving insufficient even when you stuck your whole torso out of it. It was at this point that you decided to go out, nighttime in Gotham be damned. You’d lived here your entire life, you could deal with a few muggers. And so you wrapped yourself up in a thick winter jacket over your pjs, complete with a scarf and gloves, making sure to slip some pepper spray into your pocket, where it would be easily accessible should you need it.
Nighttime in Gotham can be strangely peaceful at times, large buildings cast dark shadows which are only illuminated by weak streetlights, and depending on where you are in the city it can even be something close to quiet. You walk slowly, your boots crunching through the thin layer of ice and snow, as you navigate your way to the park.
The cold air feels nice on your face as you sit on a park bench, watching your string. Your head leaning against the back on the bench, taking in the sight of unlit buildings around you. After several minutes of sitting there in silence you finally decide to stand, a strange tingle on the back of your neck seeming to urge you towards home.
It’s only when you begin to turn that you notice the man behind you.
Before you can even register what’s going on you’ve switched the safety lock of your pepper spray and are spraying it directly into the eyes of the man with a shriek of fear.
You’re to stunned to speak as you shuffle back as quickly as possible, tripping over yourself in your panic, leaving you on your back, your pepper spray the last line of defense between you and… Red Robin? You let out a pathetic whimper of shock, which at any other moment would’ve left you horribly embarrassed but right now you’re too confused to feel anything else.
He lets out a muffled “Shit!” As he wipes at his face with the back of his glove. You stand and reflexively hand him a tissue from your pocket.
“S-Sorry.” You stutter out, watching the string cautiously float between you two in shock.
He gratefully takes the tissues and wipes his face with it, “Ah, it’s okay. The mask got most of it, just startled me was all.” He says tiredly, flashing you a weary half smile that has you feeling unfortunately weak in the knees.
“I uh-“ you find yourself at an unfortunate loss for words as you stumble through what you should say, fantasies of what you would do when you finally got the chance to meet this man face to face fleeing your mind in an instant now they you were actually in the moment.
“Are you okay?” He asks, blotted out eyes staring at you in what seems to be concern.
“Y-yeah… yeah uh… sorry I thought you were gonna try and kidnap me or something…” you said awkwardly, suddenly finding the ground very interesting as a sense of painfully strong embarrassment rushes through you.
“I knew I shouldn’t have approached you from behind.” He mutters quietly, more to himself than anything else.
“You were watching me?” You ask, creasing your eyebrows at him in concern. A hot spark of fury snaps to life in your chest. First this man breaks your heart, and then he decides to stalk you?
You swear you see him flush bright red underneath his mask. “No- no! Well, uh, actually yes- but not like that!” He stumbles through his words. “I just uh, thought you might be hurt or something, and then I uh- I saw your string and well I just thought I should say something.” He trails off awkwardly.
“Well then, what did you want to say?” You ask him, the spark of anger growing, fueled by all the painful memories that you’d acquired through the years.
“O-oh.” He looks genuinely startled for a moment at your outburst, and you would’ve felt bad had all the memories of how it felt to have to watch your soulmate flourish without you, how painful it was, not flashed through your mind.
“Well I honestly didn’t think that far ahead.” He says softly, almost shyly, as he looks at his feet and you hate how his cuteness causes butterflies to churn in your stomach. You let out a low hum as you consider your options, doing your best to ignore how adorable he looks as he glances at you and fidgets with his gloves.
“I’ve known.” You say calmly, calculatedly. If you played your cards right you could cause him a lot more pain than yelling at him ever would.
He looks up at you, a hit of confusion and concern in his voice. “Known what?” He asks.
“Tim Drake and Red Robin have one very striking similarity.” You say calmly, taking a few steps down the road that would eventually lead you home. You look back to see if he’s following and sure enough he is. You wag your pinkie at him in response.
“Ah.” He says simply, his shoulders tending.
“Relax, I’ve known for months. If I was gonna tell anyone I would’ve.” You say curtly as you begin walking home once more.
“How did you find out? Why bring it up now?” He phrases his questions as just that, questions, but you know that if you fail to answer truthfully he’ll find out quicker than you could blink. You’d looked into him over the years.
“T.V.” You say simply. “String showed up on it. As for why I brought it up, as of a few months ago Tim Drake hard launched his relationship with Bernard Dowd on Instagram. I’d be willing to bet money that the relationship had been going on for a while before that. That’d put you at dating for what, about 8 months now?” You look at him for false confirmation, you know you’re right. His shoulders are tense and you’re sure you’re receiving a scalding glare from behind his mask. You can’t help but grin in satisfaction. It’s seems your research paid off.
You see your apartment complex off in the distance and turn to face him once more. “This is all to say, you’re dating someone. What’s the real reason you approached me? Troubles in paradise?” You hum, you know you’re being nothing short of cruel right now but after watching this man completely disregard you, not care, or maybe just not realize that his soulmate would have to watch him live life without a care in the world for them, well you couldn’t help but think it was deserved.
He grinds his jaw as he looks at you. “We broke up. Not that it’s any of your business.”
“Ahh so you intended to have me be a rebound then?” You snort and look him up and down. In all your years of watching him live life without you you’d never seen him look so tense. “Well as lovely as this was, I have to wake up early tomorrow. Nice talkin’ to you bird boy.” You turn around and start walking into your apartment building. You glance behind you and see Red Robin standing where you left him, staring at you, his jaw locked tight and his mouth downtrodden in a frown. You can’t help but feel a spark of well earned satisfaction at the sight.

2.
You really thought chewing him out would make you feel better. You truly did. Instead all it did was make you feel guilty. You can’t even pin-point the cause of the guilt churning in your stomach, making you feel all the worse. You almost wish that he’d announce another relationship so you could feel justified. On the other hand seeing article on article about his newest love might finally drive you to the brink of insanity. Assuming you could still call yourself sane at this point.
Every night after dusk when you leave to do absolutely anything, you can see a shadow of a figure following you around. You’re sure it’s Drake, it has to be. You’ve studied videos of him and other Robins, compared and contrasted, you know how every one of those vigilantes move compared to each other and there’s only one who has the minor tells you keep seeing out of the corner of your eyes.
Red Robin. The string leading right to him just confirms your theory. He must think it’s not worth the effort to hide himself, the string would give him away no matter what. So instead he’s making sure that whenever you leave the safety of your home you know he’s there. You pour over why in your mind, you even consider the idea that he’s protecting you but in the end even just thinking the idea cause a spark of humor in you. No he must have some other motivation, perhaps making sure you know he has the upper hand? Perhaps showcasing that you can’t hide from him?
Whatever the reason, you’re sure that you’ll find out soon. He’s been getting gradually closer over the last week and a half he’s been following you. Tonight he’s been less than half a block away at all times. Every moment that you’ve been walking to and from the convince store you’ve noticed the shadow.
You’ve never been more terrified in your life.
You know you have no real reason to be. You know that he can’t wound you or bring you into the police. He has no reason and you haven’t given him anything to frame you with, at least, not to your knowledge. That’ll have to be your only comfort for now.
The subject of your fears is about to be confronted as you purposefully turn into an alleyway that you commonly avoid during the night, just as you excepted, the moment you’re half way in you hear the soft sound of feet landing behind you. You’re certain it’s only a pleasantry.
You steel your nerves as much as possible as you turn to face Red Robin. He’s looking at you with a dark expression that you can’t quite place, it causes a drumming of unease in your stomach and you can feel your heartbeat picking up in your chest. You wring your hands together tightly before crossing them over your chest.
“Can I help you.” You ask coldly, keeping your voice low.
“I wanted to talk.” He says calmly, approaching you carefully, calculatedly.
For every step he takes you take two back, and he quickly gets the message and stops approaching. He holds out his hands as if approaching a scared animal. “I think we got off on the wrong foot.”
You can’t help a short, sour, laugh from rising in you. “We got off on the wrong foot years ago when I had to watch you pretend I didn’t exist.” You grit out from inbetween your teeth. “When I had to watch you fuck around in those relationships.” A tiny voice in the back of your mind screeches that you’re being stupid. Melodramatic. That nows your chance to get to know him. You ignore it. “We got off on the wrong foot when I told you to fuck off and you took it as an invitation to stalk me for a week and half!” You‘re getting angrier and angrier, hiding your unease and sadness behind a thick later of rage, as you had for years now.
You’re pacing, back and forth, back and forth, walking on an invisible tightrope before him, trying to calm yourself, to think rationally. It seems that Drake’s very presence however limits your ability to do so. You scratch at the nape of your neck, trying to center yourself.
His eyes widen in shock, as if he hadn’t even thought of the possibility that you’ve know he was your soulmate for years. He shakes the shock off much quicker than you’d like before he speaks. “I wasn’t stalking you-“ he begins, holding his hand out as a sign of peace. “I wanted to say something, I just didn’t know what.”
“So you decided following me around was the best course of action.” You say with a scoff.
He unconsciously copies your body language and rubs the nape of his neck. “Well, I started off on my patrol route and then I got… distracted.”
You fix him with an un-impressed stare. “You got distracted so you decided to stalk me?” You deadpan.
He tightens his fists in agitation, scoffing at you. “Well maybe if you weren’t walking around Gotham at night I wouldn’t have to keep you from getting kidnapped!”
You throw up your hands in poorly-contained anger, approaching him to jam a finger into his chest. “I’ve done fine without you up to this point! I hardly need your help.” You seethe.
He grits his teeth, holding eye contact with you from behind his mask. If you didn’t know better you would say that you saw a flash of regret on his face. “Fine then. Have fun fighting off muggers.” He practically growls as he pulls out his grappling gun and disappears into the night with a gust of cold air.
You start walking back, much more content now that there’s no strange shadow following you. As you drift off to bed that following night however you can’t help but feel a dash of regret.

3.
You’re regretting telling Drake to leave you alone.
You’re really really regretting it.
You watch the group of large men discuss you in hushed voices on the other side of the room, all of them dressed in black. You’d been brought into a small room of what you think is the office of a warehouse. After all, this variety of common criminal are never original with their plans.
You stretch and pull against your binds, trying to find any weakness in them, you grind your teeth in frustration when you fail to find any. One of them notices your twitching and after muttering something to the rest of the group approaches you. You watch, doing your best to conceal your fear, as the rest of the men leave the room.
The man crouches in front of you, balaclava covering everything but his eyes as he analyzes you.
“What do you want.” You spit out, attempting to kick him with your bound feet. The man easily swats them to the side, huffing at you in irritation. “Your soulmate is Red Robin.” He doesn’t phase it as a question, but an objective fact, making your stomach twist anxiously.
“Why the fuck would you think that.” You growl out, baring your teeth at him, doing your best to use your anger to mask your true feelings.
A series of bangs and shouts interrupts you from outside the room, causing the man to stand and turn quickly. He stands in front of you, staring at the door a while before he turns to face you, giving you a look that you roughly decipher as his best attempt at telling you “I told you so”. He pulls you up roughly, wrapping an arm around your shoulder and shoving a gun to the side of your head, making you wince silently.
He tugs the both of you into the corner that’s immediately visible from the door way. It feels like an eternity of standing there, trying to maintain a balance of getting as far from the man as his arm wrapped around you will allow while not pissing him off enough that he decides to use the gun. In actuality only 2 or 3 minutes pass as you listen to the sounds of fighting that echo outside the door. Despite your expectation of it, you still violently flinch when the door slams open, a painfully loud crack filling the room.
Drake looks frantic, he’s covered in dust and his Bo staff is sticky with a dark substance that you can only surmise is blood. He barely glances at you, eyes finding the gun that your kidnapper presses into your skull before his eyes trail up to the man holding you.
He holds out a hand, other gripping his staff tightly, and you can’t help but remember your last meeting. “Let them go.” He says firmly, like his trying to will the man’s action with only his voice.
From where the man holds you against his chest you can feel him shake with fear, but how did he think this would go? His friends would get the drop on Red Robin? Yeah right. You silently hope that Drake finds a way to get you out of this soon.
“Let. Them. Go.” Drake says again, approaching slowly. You can see his fingers shifting on his staff, attempting to feel out the man’s next move. “There’s no way you get out of this. So let them go and you can get off easier.”
Apparently he didn’t enjoy the sound of that as he throws you to the ground, points his gun, and fires. Drake’s mind and body are both quicker than any reflex this man might have however as he ducks under the bullets with ease, knocking the gun out of hands with a practiced flow.
You don’t see what happens next, and you don’t want to. All you see as you pull yourself into a corner are the scrapes on your hands from where you caught yourself. You bury your head in your knees and try to fuse into the corner. You don’t want to be here. You want to be able to pretend this entire situation doesn’t bother you. You want your soulmate to be anyone other than the vigilante across the room from you right now who’s beating a man to a bloody pulp.
Time doesn’t seem real, you don’t seem real as you stand in the doorway, watching yourself struggle to breath in that corner. You don’t know when you reentered your body but you know that Drake is in front of you, blood on his knuckles and dotting his face as he frantically unties you.
You struggle to breath and Drake presses his palm to your cheek, you flinch at the feeling of a sticky fluid meeting your skin. “Hey, hey it’s okay. You’re okay now.”
Your soul acts ahead of your mind and you press you face into his chest with a sob, you feel him physically startle for a moment, before he slowly and tentatively wraps his arms around you. “I’m sorry.” You choke out between cries, digging your finger into the fabric on his back. “I’m so sorry.”
You’re sure that in a day or two the memory of this will embarrass you, but for now his arms wrap around you and squeeze firmly, centering you in the here and now as he mummers comforts into your ear.
And for now, that’s all you need.

4.
It’s been almost a month since you were kidnapped, and then rescued by Red Robin. Your parents had begged you to come home and recover with them, but you had turned them down every time they asked. Under other circumstances you would’ve agreed in a heartbeat, but your apartment had something that their’s lacked. Red Robin. The man who saved you that night, and your soulmate.
Every night following your capture he’d come to visit. As he handed you off to the police he’d promised he’d keep an eye on you, and it seemed he intended to follow through on that promise, as for the last four weeks, like clockwork, you’d awaken to a soft tapping on your window, opening it to Red Robin.
The first few nights he’d simply crouched on your windowsill and exchanged a few short words with you, turning down your offers of bandaging his wounds or a glass of water before he was disappearing into the night as silently as he came. It took you nearly a week before you managed to convince him to come inside for the first time.
You had to practically beg him to come in, promising over and over that it wasn’t any trouble and you were sure that you didn’t mind. You’d never been so happy Gotham’s rent was cheap enough for you to live without a roommate so you didn’t have to explain to someone why Red Robin was in your apartment at 4 am. It took a while for the both of you to warm up to one another, especially after the rough start you’d had, but once you two actually had a conversation without gritting your teeth at each other you found you had more in common than you thought.
That brings you to today, nearly a month after Tim had saved you from your kidnappers. You’re currently both seated at your small dining room table, cups of cold coffee in both of your hands as you chat about everything and nothing at the same time, his mask laying on the table between you. You glance at the clock on your stove and startle slightly, it reads 3am. He had come by for a brief pick-me-up before he headed out on patrol, now it was about the time he should be done. If the things he’d told you were anything to go off of, Batman would be sure to express his dissatisfaction.
He follows your line of sight and winces when his eyes land on the clock. “I guess this means you have to go…” you say softly, trying to keep from seeming to disappointed.
He leans back in his chair and lets out a sigh before shrugging unceremoniously. “Eh, it’s okay.”
You cock an eyebrow at him. “Won’t Batman be mad?”
He gives you a grin that turns your muscles to jelly and makes your stomach erupt with a swarm of butterflies. “You think Batman’s never missed patrol because of a cutie distracting him?” He asks, looking you up and down in a surprisingly respectful manner that you find yourself wishing was a little less gentlemanly.
You feel heat rush to your cheeks and you rub at the nape of your neck in a futile attempt to disperse it. “I uh- I certainly find it hard to imagine.” You stutter, suddenly finding your floorboards completely fascinating.
He lets out a soft chuckle and a warm silence settles over the both of you like a blanket. You sit there and stare at the coffee sitting at the bottom of your cup as you swirl it around mindlessly. Your trance is only broken by Tim softly clearing his throat.
“So- so uh. I was wondering if you uh. Maybe wanted to go out with me sometime? Well not me.” He says softly, gesturing to his Red Robin uniform. “Tim Drake.”
Despite the warmth gathering in your own cheeks once more you place your elbows on the table and lean forward, taking pleasure in the pink you see on him. “If I didn’t know better I would say you like me birdie.” You tease.
He fixes you with a playful glare and copies your body language, similarly leaning forward. “What if I do?”
You click your tongue and pretend to be deep in thought for a moment. “Well…” you say slowly, “I guess I won’t have a choice but to take you up on your offer.”
He flashes you a smile that could rival the sun and stands up suddenly, prompting you to do the same. “I’ll pick you up tomorrow at 5, wear something nice.” He says with a wink before he’s opening your window, slipping his mask back on, and disappearing into the city with a short wave.
————
5.
You hadn’t slept much last night. But who could blame you? After Tim had left all you could think about was what he had in mind. You spent several hours slipping in-between consciousness and sleep and when you finally woke up for good you found yourself thankful that you didn’t have to work today as your mind darted over all the different possibilities of where he would bring you.
His cryptic fashion advice did you no favors. What exactly qualified as “nice”? You certainly had no clue, and as a result spent entirely to long scanning your closet for something. You considered several outfits. Too formal. Too casual. A shirt he had seen you wear as pajamas. A pair of shorts that would’ve been perfect had it still not been to cold. A top that showed off a little to much. Nothing worked.
It took you an embarrassingly long amount of time to settle on an outfit that could be okay for a variety of activities, even longer for you decide what accessories to pair with it. After several hours you still had time to kill before Tim picked you up, which you spent doing small chores around your apartment, mind too preoccupied to get any real work done. As 5 pm drew you near you found yourself checking over every aspect of your appearance, nothing seemed quite right but as the sound of your doorbell rang throughout your apartment you found yourself grinding your teeth and having no choice but to deal with it.
You smooth out your outfit one last time before pulling the door open. Tim stands there with a soft, nervous smile on his face, a bouquet of red roses in his hand. He’s dressed more formally than you’d expected, in a simple white t-shirt, with a dark grey blazer and slacks, finished off with black leather loafers.
He blinks in shock as he looks you up and down once, his ears turning a bright red as he seemingly snaps out of it, offering the bouquet to you. “You look lovely.” He says softly, looking away from you and towards the floor bashfully.
You feel your cheeks warm as you roll your eyes playfully and take the bouquet from him. “You’re one to talk birdie.” You flirt as you move into the kitchen to get a vase.
He follows you into your apartment, closing the door and leaning against its frame as he watches you work with a fond look in his eyes. You finish filling a vase with water and place the roses on a windowsill. You gently mess with the blood colored petals, moving them around softly before you turn to look at Tim. “Thank you for the flowers.” You say softly.
He gives you a small smile and rocks on his heels, “Ah don’t mention it.” He says with a wave of his hand.
“So, what exactly did you plan?” You ask, unable to keep the excitement from your voice as you approach him.
He gives you a smirk and opens your front door with a flourish. “After you.”
You can’t keep yourself from letting out a short laugh as you let him escort you through the hallways of your apartment building and towards a nearby parking lot, where an entirely too expensive car is waiting. You startle for a moment, but recover as he approaches it and opens the passenger door for you.
“Do you even have a license to drive this?” You tease as you slide into your seat.
He balks and stares at you in open mouthed shock for a few moments, causing you to let out a full bodied laugh.
“What is that supposed to mean?” He splutters, ears turning red as he looks at you in confusion.
“D-don’t take this the wrong way,” you say breathlessly “but you don’t look like someone who knows how to drive.”
He stares at you for a few more moments before wordlessly rounding the car and getting into the drivers seat.
“You’re sure you can sit there?” You snark.
He gives you a half-hearted glare. “And to think I was gonna take you out to a nice dinner.” He mummers under his breath as he starts the engine.
You give him an exaggerated look of shock and lean over as best you can in a mock-bow. “I am so very sorry my lord. Please forgive me.”
He considers you out of the corner of his eye, trying and failing to hide a smile. “I suppose your apology is acceptable.” He quips.
You straighten and give him a large smile, giggling as you turn your head to look out the window at the streets you’re passing. There is no denying that the start you had was rough, but now? Now you wouldn’t change what you had for the world.

Mistletoe
Word Count: 968
A/N: This was written ages ago but I have a new Frank one coming soon hehe!
“Frank! Get off me!” I shout, shoving him off the couch. We’ve never gotten along, even when the band first started we didn’t get along. I don’t know how I managed to actually avoid him during the early days when we were touring in the van.
“Oh fuck off Em. It’s Christmas, maybe pretend you like me for the next 24 hours,” he chuckles, grabbing another beer from the fridge. For the first time, we’re playing a Christmas show, something that both Mikey and I have been wanting to do since we started the band.
“Please be nice to each other, you two, it’s literally the last show of the tour for god’s sake,” Ray carries a table full of gifts into the dressing room followed by Gerard and Mikey who are both wearing Santa hats. I check the clock and see we’ve got about 4 hours before stage time, just enough time to go through presents, get changed into our uniforms and do makeup. Ray hands out presents to each person and by the time he’s done everyone has a small stack next to them.
“You go first Em!” Mikey grins widely, pointing at the present clearly from him.
“Okay,” I smile back at him, grabbing the brightly coloured present and tearing the paper apart. It’s a book, hardcover. A copy of his favorite book that I’ve always wanted to read, Watchmen.
“Oh shit Mikey you got her Watchmen? Sick!” Gerard pats his brother’s shoulder, clearly excited that I’m finally going to be reading the book.
Frank grabs his present that I got for him, it’s small but I think he’ll like it. Trust me, I thought a lot about what to get him. It’s wrapped in a light pink-purple color, his favorite.
“What’d you get him?” Gerard whispers into my ear but I just wave him away.
He rips the paper and throws it into the pile on the floor sitting in front of Mikey. And there, finally after a month of searching, finally sitting in his lap, is a limited edition pressing of his favorite Black Flag record.
“Holy shit. What the fuck Em, how did you get this?” he asks, holding it up and looking at the back cover.
“It took a while if that’s what you’re asking you fucker,” I smirk from my side of the couch.
“This must’ve cost you all your savings, oh my god,” he stares down at it.
“Yeah and you better enjoy it or else,” I laugh at him and he nods excessively.
Gerard goes next and opens Ray’s gift which is a new set of markers which he looks extremely grateful for. Gee and his art always make him the easiest to buy gifts for. Ray moves to open his from Mikey which is simply a new set of guitar strings and picks which earns him a lovely smile. But before we circle back to Mikey, Frank gets up and walks out whispering something to Gerard who nods and walks out with him.
“Any idea where they’re going?” I ask Ray who just shakes his head. Gerard walks back in a few minutes later and states,
“You are not ready for this Em. I swear,” he has the biggest smile ever on his face. Frank walks in with a large box that goes up to his waist and hands it over to me.
“Wait this is for me?” I look up at him confused but he just nods.
I unwrap the paper and open the brown cardboard box. A shiny purple guitar, a Les Paul, sits there in my lap. A custom, it has to be. Straight from the shop. My jaw drops and I look up at Frank.
“Is this from all of you guys?”
“Just Frank,” Gerard sits down on the floor.
“Shit. Now feel bad for telling you to fuck off earlier,” I sigh.
The rest of the guys open their presents and head off to wardrobe and makeup to get ready for the show but I stay behind. Frank walks in, already in full uniform with his eyeliner smudged on his face.
“You look good,” I look up at him but he just brushes it off.
“I don’t hate you Em. You know that right?” he asks.
“Yeah I know Frank. I don’t hate you either,” I get up off the couch and walk over to him.
“Guess what?” he asks, smirking.
“What?” I say, looking into his eyes. He points up at the bar on the roof and I tilt my head up to look at it. Mistletoe.
“Oh,” I mutter.
“Oh,” he smiles, placing his hands on my waist.
“Are we?”
“I don't need mistletoe to kiss you,” he pulls me closer. He’s going to kiss me isn’t he? “Yeah I’m going to kiss you.”
“Do I want this?” I ask out loud, not realizing it.
“Yeah, we’ve been waiting to do this forever,” he cups my face and brings his lips forward and presses them against mine. He tastes like root beer, his lips soft and smooth against my own. I run my fingers down through his hair, dyed black like the rest of us and he moans into my mouth. I run my tongue along his silver lip ring before pulling away to take a breath.
“Fuck Frankie,” I breathe out. “It’s the goddamn uniform I swear.” Frank laughs under his breath.
“Would you two stop making out and actually get ready for the show?” Gerard pops his head in through the door.
“Yeah we’re coming,” I smile, walking away looking at Frank.
“Come find me after the show,” he whispers before sitting down on the couch and waiting for what I hope will be the best show ever.

Returning to Home-Base
Pairing: Simon "Ghost" Riley x Reader
Summary: You and Simon had been dating for four years now and you know in your heart that you truly loved this man; yet with all the deployment's he's been sent on recently; you begin to question it all, especially when he does not return.
Warnings: 783 words, angst.
A/N: trying out angst for once; hope you all enjoy~
Masterlist | Taglist | edited.
Returning to Home-Base Series (pt.1) (pt.2, v.1) (pt.2, v.2) you are here
4 years.
That's how long you and Simon had been officially dating for; and this weekend would mark your anniversary of an all too awkward exchanging on feelings from mutual friends of Soap to lovers.
Yet your relationship with the Lieutenant had been on the rocks recently; with his deployments becoming what felt months on end and back to back. Every time he would come through the door- exhausted just like your emotional control. Your boyfriends feeling more like a memory than a person.
You knew that this was a part of being with him, and a part to which you both acknowledged and agreed to. You recognized this as early friends; dealt with this for years with John years before even meeting. Yet here you lay on the shared bed with sheets freshly washed and made with the windows open; the cool air hitting your skin with goosebumps of anticipation.
you agreed to this, echoed through your memories together as you sat listening to the neighbours apartment party the next door over; thumping, bashing and crashing simultaneously. you agreed to this.
Like clockwork, every time Simon would come back; turning the key and lightly opening the door before shutting it with the outsole of his boot. Moving his duffle bag to that horrid-green arm chair first. Before going back and removing his warn combat boots you found comfort in seeing kicked into the closet.
Simon would then find you; wrapping his arms around your core; fitting you snuggly to his chest and caging you in with his head as he would breath in your hair and rub small circles across your back and up to your shoulders. He always smelled fresh from the showers; his shirt slightly damp as your hands would train up and down the sore bunches of muscles in his back.
You would feel how his throat would groan every time you would kneed them out and how he would take his hands in return; brushing up your neck and under your chin; bringing his lips to capture yours. And there is where you would melt every, single, time... until now it seemed.
You felt guilty; he was saving lives, he was doing something he was passionate about and was composed in a team of honourable members yet here you sat always wanting more.
So you sat and waited for him to return; watched as the clock hands ticked past the hours, the neighbour's party had died down significantly with every tick yet the sound of boots against hardwood floors had yet to grace your ears.
--
In the early morning hours; you still had not slept. Wanting to face him head on- you practiced what you would say when your eyes connected. Before your fading memory of his touch would ignite new ones as soon as your skin met his.
Cleaning the apartment; cooking a dinner for two on the table and thus washing it up when the food became cold. To later folding the shirts that had lost his scent back into the shared drawers. You looked towards the clock; listening for Simon with spoiled hope; anxiety growing with every tick that bounced through the room.
--
Afternoon of the next day saw you passed out on the couch; using one of his large black hoodies as a blanket. Your mind raced towards all avenues of possibilities; was he bleeding, was he breathing, was his team doing alright. Where was he, when will he show up, will he?
you agreed to this laughed at your subconscious self and mocked your memories that drifted across your tear covered eyes and down your cheeks.
Going to clean yourself up for the workday; you used the conditioner that he always bought for you when picking up supplies for the house. Hands shaking across your scalp; thinking of the larger ones that would caress every part of your body in these moments.
--
When returning back home hopeful to a dead house; you refused to fall asleep in the empty bed that haunted your dreams of nights under the covers. Legs brushing up against one another; your head on a large chest as you traced the outlines of his tattoos. You remeber him shivering against you; the room warm.
And when sunlight caressed your cheeks, legs, and followed you into the kitchen as the coffee pot finished dripping. You couldn't bare to use the set of homemade mugs that you made with the task-force.
you agreed to this, pouring out two mugs for the table; your tired and puffy eyes carried your shaking form to move when you heard a knock at the door and opened it to see two sets of work-boots- few words are exchanged and then the tiles of the hallway appear to be moving closer towards your face as your whole world spins; turning black.
╰┈ A/N: glad to see you guys enjoy this story :)

New In Town
Pairing: Victor & Reader
Summary: You arrive in town and something about you is... different. He doesn't know how to explain it, but it's definitely caught his attention.
Tags: MDNI, Not a whole lot happens in this chapter, probably the most chill thing I've ever written tbh. Some very minor obsessive behaviors, PTSD, Dark!Victor
A/N: This is an exploration of Victor's thought process and how the trauma he's been through affects how he see's the world and how he interacts with the others in the town.
A/N: Takes place 4 months before season 1. Y'all can thank @victor-from for putting this idea in my brain. Hope those who give this a chance enjoy. :)
@victor-from I hope you like this! It was absolutely inspired by your edits so I hope you think this is a good start. :)
~
Another car. He watches silently from behind a tree as you pull over on the road to ask Kenny for directions. After a few moments, Kenny points you through town. You pull off and he watches the car until your tail lights are beyond his view. He waits, it takes several minutes for your car to come back around the loop. Just like that, another one joins. He sighed and stepped out of the trees, deciding to see who had made it through the night this time. Wandering through town, he spots Donna, one of the few to believe him after losing her sister the night she arrived.
“How are you today, Victor?” She asks in a gentle tone like he’ll break if she speaks too loud. Humans don’t scare him, not anymore.
They watch together as you make another round through the town. He catches sight of you. You're young, around Ellis and Kenny’s age, and looking more and more distraught the longer you keep circling back to town. “Another one.” He sighs, frowning as you disappear again.
“Yeah. Let’s hope she believes us before it’s too late.” Donna sighs. Victor nods, walking toward the dinner. Tian-Chen has some peaches there that she keeps just for him.
~
Hours later, the sun is setting and you have gotten the very unfortunate news about seeing the tree in the road and what happens here when the stars come out. Victor debates on heading back to his truck, but it’s getting too dark so he leaves Tian-Chen with Abby and Kenny and heads for one of the few hiding spots he actually tolerates. Father Khatri and a few others were already down there. Khatri smiles at him. “Hey there, Victor.” His gaze sweeps the rest of the small group. You’re here, looking wide-eyed and terrified. He steps against the wall right next to you. You watch him with a guarded expression, and he holds your gaze steadily.
“As long as we’re quiet, we can stay safe.” He whispers, trying to reassure you. Your jaw clenches and you nod. A strong one, that could be good. Victor’s eyes flit to Khatri who nods in approval at the sight of him helping out. Khatri and Donna are always trying to get him to interact more with the others, but it’s not his fault none of them have ever caught his attention.
The first screams sound from a distance and he can hear your breath hitch. His hand automatically goes to your shoulder, quietly shushing you. You reach up, clutching onto his shirt. He looks down, a little surprised that he was the one you’re seeking for comfort, but then again, he’d stared it, something very out of character for him to do.
The night felt like it lingered for eternity. At some point they had all sat down, flinching when they heard screams from nearby. Hiding spots that had been discovered this round. You jumped at every noise and buried your face in his shoulder to muffle your breathing and the occasional terrified sob. It’s the most contact he’s had since that night in the cellar. Part of him hated it, but the other part, the part that had wanted to protect Eloise, kept his arm wrapped tightly around your shoulder, selfishly finding comfort in the contact. He kept his head against yours, wanting the closeness that you so freely gave him. The others were either whimpering or whispering, but he couldn’t make out any words, his focus permanently stolen on the way you press into him, but it’s better than running, than feeling completely alone like he had that night in the cellar.
It felt like weeks before the screaming stopped. They waited an hour, it’s hard to see the daylight hiding under the ground, so they waited for a while after things went quiet just to be safe. Slowly you uncurl yourself from his shoulder, looking around at the others. Father Khatri removes the grassy cover and peaks out to check. “All clear.” He says before hoisting himself above ground. Others follow, you and Victor were the last to go up, but when you did get up your face paled at the carnage you saw. Bodies scattered over the street, and people from town were busy covering them up and taking them in a wheelbarrow to a field beyond the buildings someone had pointed out as a church yesterday.
“Yeah,” Victor started as you take in the horror of your situation. “W-we rotate hiding spots every night to-to make it harder on them to find us. It-” He cuts himself off, his eyes sweeping the woods to the right of you before looking back to you. “It doesn’t always work, though.” He shrugs before turning and walking off towards the part of the woods he’d been watching. You’re left there looking a little dumbfounded as you watch his back slowly disappear into the trees.
“Ignore him.” A voice approaches from behind you. You whip around to find a woman about your own age with tan skin and brown eyes approaching with a beautiful smile. “He’s been here the longest and it definitely shows sometimes. I’m Fatima.” She holds her hand out. You smile hesitantly in return and shake it, giving your own name.
“He was nice last night, kept me calmer at least.” You say, nodding back to where the man had disappeared. Fatima’s eyebrows raised a little in surprise.
“Did he? Victor doesn’t tend to get involved with newcomers. He freaks a lot of people out but he’s harmless, I promise.”
You shrug, watching the woods for a moment longer before letting Fatima guide you away from the hiding hole you’d spent the night in. “Are there other hiding spots in the woods? He said we have to rotate every night.” Fatima frowned and you furrowed your brow in confusion. Was Victor wrong? “What? Is that not right?”
“No… it is. I’m just surprised he told you… like I said, Victor doesn’t typically help out with new people. As for hiding spots in the woods, no, there aren’t hiding spots in there. Victor’s the only one who really explores the woods cause he knows them better than everyone else.”
“You guys haven’t asked him to show you stuff? If he’s been here for so long…” You trail off when Fatima shakes her head.
“We tried. He never talks about this place, who he came with, how long he’s been here, how he managed to survive for so long. No one knows because he refuses to tell us anything.” Fatima sighs, clearly frustrated with the lack of cooperation.
“PTSD. He doesn't have to remember it if he doesn’t talk about it.” You observe offhandedly. She nods in agreement as you walk along a dirt road winding through the fields of overgrown grass.
“But he knows stuff about this place. Secrets that might help that he holds onto. It’s scary and frustrating and sad all at the same time.”
“Sure.” You nod in understanding as a big house comes into view. “Whoa.” You state, taking in the massive four-story building.
“Yeah, we call it Colony House, it kind of serves as a commons of sort during the day time. There's a little river out behind it a little ways that we play in. Do you want to see?”
The water had intrigued you enough to nod eagerly. Fatima grins and takes your hand. “Come.” She pulls you along to a shed where a group of people are working. Two of them, an older blonde lady and a younger man about you and Fatima’s age with dark curly hair and light brown skin, were making fun of an older dark-skinned man who was insisting that he knew what he was doing. His beard was starting to grey but he seemed just as sturdy as the younger man who was laughing at him.
“C’mon Dad, we all know Mom can get it done faster and better.” He grins at him when the elder points a finger in his face.
“I didn’t ask for your opinion.”
“But he’s right, Babe.” The blonde lady chimed in was a smile. “Hand it over, I got this.”
“I’m trying to help you, Baby.” He insists to his wife, while their son cackles at them before looking around his mother and spots them.
“Fatima!.” He grins and lopes over to them, and you watch as Fatima grins in return.
“Hey!” They hug and the man kisses her forehead adoringly. Fatima turns to you and gestures with a hand between you and the man. “This is Ellis.” You smile and he nods his head in acknowledgement. You both shake hands and you give him your name. “I was going to show her the Brundles.” Ellis nods and gestures to the two of you ahead of him.
“Mind if I tag along?” He asks. You nod in agreement and the three of you wander off towards a path off to a part of the forest, waving to the older couple who must be Ellis’ parents. The path isn't very long before it opens up to a rundown dock and a lazily flowing river with a couple of floaties hanging out in the middle for people to swim for. A few people are already there, sun tanning or splashing around playing tag in the water. “This is the coolest thing about this place,” Ellis tells you as he sheds his shirt and runs off to join the group playing tag. You laugh at him.
“He seems nice.” You comment, watching him play with the others.
“Yeah, he’s one of the good ones for sure.” She watches him with a warmth that makes you feel a little lonely.
“Are you two…” You gesture between them and wiggle your eyebrows, grinning when Fatima laughs at you.
“Yeah, he’s my person. He was the one who helped me not go insane here.” You smile at the fondness in her voice. You both slip out of your shoes and find spots on the dock to sit and dangle your feet in the water, laughing at Ellis and the others as they splash around, raining droplets on your arms and legs.
~
From behind a tree, deep enough into the woods that he wouldn’t be seen, Victor watches you and Fatima on the dock. He can’t explain why he followed you here instead of going to the peach truck as he intended, just that he can still feel the phantom weight of your body against his and that he wouldn’t mind feeling it again. He wants to draw you and wallpaper the insides of the trailer with images of you instead of the horrors that are currently hanging up there. He can’t explain why his fingers dig into the tree bark when Ellis approaches and playfully tries to yank you into the water. His whole body shifts, lurching forward to keep you from harm. But he pauses when you lean down and splash water at Ellis. He watches, a frown pulling at the corner of his lips and his eyebrows furrowing when he sees you laughing. He’s too far away to hear the conversation, but after a moment, you’re willing to slide into the water and swim out into the open with Ellis while Fatima laughs and claps, encouraging whatever is about to happen. Victor moves, slipping between the trees until he gets a clearer view of you treading water. You and Ellis are talking about something before lining up facing the dock. The others in the water have given you both a clear path to the dock, where Fatima is standing at the end with her arms above her head. He hears her shout the word “GO!” before cutting her arms down to her side in a fast motion. Out in the water, you and Ellis are both racing back to the dock as fast as you can. Ellis is stronger, but your form looks smoother, a swimmer then.
He remembers being a child, swimming here with Eloise, racing back and forth with the adults egging them on. His chest aches and his fingers once again dig into the tree bark. He’s brought back to reality with the crowd shouting and cheering as you and Ellis complete your race. He had missed who won but he watches you as you come up to the shore, grinning at Ellis, who high-fives you in return. He says something that Victor can’t make out and you fip him off. He shifts in the trees again, following you up the shoreline to catch a glimpse of Fatima joining the conversation before the three of you head back toward Colony House.
He follows you but allows himself to look busy with his markings. He really should be measuring the trees, seeing if there are any new faraway trees, but instead, he’s watching Ellis introduce you to his parents.
~
Boyd and Abby are all smiles as they welcome you into town. Despite their earlier bickering, they each have an arm around the other and offer to take you to the diner with them for dinner tonight. You agree, happy to have kind people looking out for you. Abby asks if you’ve gotten a tour of the place yet and you admit you’d gotten a brief tour from Donna yesterday but it’d been close to dark so you hadn’t actually explored yet. They offered to show you around a bit while your clothes dried. You nodded, the curiosity to explore slowly eating at you.
~
He watches as the group begins to move back to the road. Something about seeing you with a larger group sets him into motion. He steps out of the trees and quietly approaches, not wanting to interfere, but also… wanting to do just that.
Fatima spots him first. “Victor.” He looks up from where he’s pretending to be looking at a journal instead of eavesdropping on their conversation. His eyes sweep from one gaze to another before he lands on you. He holds your gaze for a long second before dropping them to close his book and slowly approach.
“Hello.” He says in acknowledgment, but he’d really rather talk to you without everyone around. You give a small nod to him but it’s Fatima that speaks up.
“I heard you helped her out last night.”
Victor shrugs, pretending that the thought of you getting comforted by Ellis or Fatima the way he had done last night didn’t upset him. “S-she was scared.” He locks eyes with you again. “Everyone is when they first arrive.”
“We were just about to show her around town,” Boyd says, half turning to continue to the road that leads back to the town from Colony House.
For the first time in a very long time, Victor speaks before he thinks. “I could-” He hesitates as five pairs of eyes settle on him. He hates it. “I could take her. If you’re busy.” His gaze wanders past Boyd’s shoulder to the fields beyond.
“You’re welcome to join us,” Abby speaks up, not unkindly. He’s had very little interaction with her, but she’s never looked at him the way the others tend to so he appreciates her for that, if nothing else. His gaze drops to the grass between his boots and he frowns, he wants you alone. He shrugs and walks off, deciding that he can talk to you closer to dark.
~
You once more find yourself staring at his retreating back. “Does he do that a lot? Announces himself then leaves?” You ask, confused by Victor’s strange behavior.
“That’s about all he does,” Boyd mutters. You look at him right as his wife smacks him on the shoulder.
“Be nice, he’s had it hard,” Abby says softly, but you note the frown on her face.
“You’d think he’d want out of here if he’s had it so hard,” Ellis mumbles.
Fatima and Boyd both nod in agreement, but Abby continues to frown after where Victor had disappeared into the forest. “He’s never offered to show people around before.” She says, just as confused by his offer of kindness as Fatima had been when you had told her he’d comforted you through the night.
~
He growls with frustration once he’s out of sight, raising his lunchbox overhead before throwing it down. The rope catches on his shoulder and he winces, letting his most beloved possession fall to his side as he makes his way further into the trees. He wants to bring you to the truck tonight. The one that no one hides in except himself. He wants you to himself, in the truck with the rest of his prized belongings. He heads there now, he needs to take the drawings off the walls. He doesn’t want you seeing the horrors he’s seen and recreated in crayon.
~
The bodies have been cleared away while you were at the river with Ellis and Fatima, and now people milled about like everything was normal. You wanted to be surprised but you didn’t think that was fair considering you had just spent the past hour in the water, racing Ellis like things were normal.
“It’s a bit unnerving how things just become … okay here.” Fatima offered.
“You a mind reader or something?” You’re shocked she seemed to know about your unsettling thoughts.
Chuckles go around the group but it’s Ellis that answers. “Everyone kind of goes through the same confusion of being horrified one minute and finding distractions that make life seem almost normal the next and then going back to horrified that you forgot to be horrified. It gets easier to manage after the first few weeks.”
“I don’t think I want to manage it. That sounds like normalizing the horror.” You admit.
“It’s how we survive here,” Abby states. “If you can’t compartmentalize, it’ll take its toll on you. People who struggle with it don’t tend to make it long.” You nod, deciding to keep that in mind.
The group shows you around town, pointing out the animals and the gas station-turned-bar. You ask about the spray-painted ‘SAVE US” on the barn but the group doesn’t answer.
“That was there when we arrived too,” Boyd explained. “We’re not sure who did it.”
You feel the hairs on your arms raise at that. The ominous message. ‘Save Us.’ But if you saw the message, you already saw the tree.
You’re coaxed away from the barn to see the animals for a bit. You meet Nathan, the friendly animal handler who looks to be a few years older. He tells you their names and you give a friendly goat named Alma a few neck scratches and pat a big white cow on the nose.
The five of you eat at the diner for lunch and then the group ends up having to separate to do various tasks. You slowly make your way to the treeline, scanning for something that might catch your eye. Deer, squirrels, birds… There was no wildlife here. Not even bugs. It felt eerie… apocalyptic almost. What was this place?
“You shouldn’t go into the woods by yourself.” You jump, whipping around to find Victor behind you. You hadn’t seen him since he offered to give you a tour then left when Abby offered him a spot in the group. “There aren’t any paths,” He continued, “or trail markers. Easy to get lost if you go too far.”
“You go in there.” You point out. His eyes drift to the woods behind you and you take him in for the first time since you’ve met him last night. He wore a reddish-brown button-up that buttoned completely, even the neck button. He has an old-looking lunchbox that’s attached by rope across his chest. His face is gaunt, his jaw sharp, and a permanent frown seems to live on his thin mouth. He had deep blue eyes and shoulder-length brown hair that looked like it needed to be combed. He was tall too, you realized as he looked down to meet your gaze again.
“Yes. But I know my way around. You shouldn’t go in there, because you don’t.”
“You could show me around.” You mentally kick yourself. Did you actually want to follow this guy into the woods? Fatima said he was harmless, but the way he walked off when offered to join the group was kind of weird. But the others said that that was kind of normal for him. “Unless you plan to wander off again and leave me stranded.” Okay, maybe you’re a little offended he offered to show you around then bailed when he realized others would be joining you.
He shakes his head. “I wouldn’t do that. N-not out there.” He nods to the trees. “They move, you know.” He leans down conspiratorially. “The trees. You never know where they’ll be the next day.”
Your brows furrow as you look behind you, wondering if he’s trying to freak you out. So you ask him. He seems offended by the question and confused that you asked it.
“I’m not lying.” He insists, seemingly upset by the thought.
You frown at the almost tantrum-like behavior. “I believe you. It just… I was just making sure.” The reassurance settles him and he looks back at the trees with a sigh.
“It’ll be dark soon.” He says, going quiet for a moment as if deliberating on something. You wait and sure enough, he speaks up again. “There are places to hide out there. In case you need them.”
“Fatima told me there weren’t any hiding places in the forest.”
“There are, but no one hides out there but me so no one knows.”
“Oh.” You understand exactly why people are freaked out by this guy.
Victor looks to the town, people are starting to shut things down and get ready to go back underground. “Come on. We need to hurry.” He holds his hand out, gesturing for you to go first. You turn around and eye the darkening trees.
“Oh. I don’t know about tonight…” You hesitate. But a hand lands between your shoulder blades and Victor presses you towards the trees anyway, shockingly strong despite his thin frame.
“You don’t hear the screams at night. You’ll sleep better, I promise.” He herds you gently into the treeline, but he’s careful. As you begin to walk on your own, the weight of his hand lightens on your back. But still there, as if ready to steady you if you stumble. You really hope he’s not a serial killer.
You walk through the woods for fifteen minutes, thinking you’re a complete dumbass for doing this before you guys land in a field with a giant tractor-trailer in it that has a fruit logo on the side of it. “In here.” He says, leaving your side to go to the back of the trailer to open the door. It slides upward and he looks to the sky which is growing dark fast. He motions for you to come with him. You sigh, you can’t make it back to town without risking your life, so you climb into the back of the truck with him.
You weren’t sure what you were expecting, but a makeshift bachelor pad wasn’t it. You take in two couches, a little desk, a shelf full of random items, and a bed in the very back. What. The. Fuck?
He moves past you to go to the desk to turn on the lights. It creates a low glow that throws shadows across his angular face. “I have… snacks here if you want.” He offers in that strange disjointed way of his.
“Oh, I ate at the diner. But thank you.” You have no idea what to do, and unfortunately, you doubt Victor has a clue either. The first scream sounded outside from a distance just as Victor went back to close and lock the door. You eye it suspiciously, it doesn’t seem as safe as your little hidey-hole last night. “Are you sure they won’t come here?” You whisper skeptically.
He sits on the couch, taking your hand in his gently, and gestures for you to sit across from him. “As long as were quiet, they won’t look here. I spend most nights in here.” He reassures softly.
You look at him, trying to figure out if he lured you out here to be bait or if he means what he says. He seems genuine, but he doesn’t seem to know what to do with you. “How come none of the others know about this place?”
“I- I hid here… before the others came. This is- this is where I came at night. I didn’t …” He trails off, his head tilting to the right as if he was searching for the right words on the wall behind you. “I come here to be alone… so I’ve never told anyone about it.” He finally says. It makes sense you guess, so you nod and do another sweep of the room.
“You… This stuff… was it here when you found it?” Victor shook his head.
“Some of it I got from the other cars,” He explained, his eyes dancing over his objects in the low lamplight. “Some of it was…” He swallowed and looked to the door. “In the car I came in.”
“Did you come alone?” You press gently, intrigued by the turn in conversation.
“No. I- I don’t want to talk about that.” He shakes his head dismissively, shifting uncomfortably in his seat.
“How long have you been here?” You can’t help it, you want to know and you’re already stuck here for the night.
“Mm- a long time.” He says but doesn't elaborate further.
You both fall into awkward silence. Eventually, you find a book on the shelf and Victor ends up back at the desk where he appears to be coloring. Judging by the way you catch him watching you, you’re pretty sure he’s drawing you. Whatever, it’s something to do, you don’t care that much.
At some point, he sees you drift off on the couch. “You can… use the bed. If-if you want.” He offers, hand gesturing to the little bed in the back of the trailer.
“You don’t want it?”
“No.” He says, turning back to the desk to continue his coloring. You watch him for a little while but sleep calls to you. ‘Fuck it.’ You get up and crawl into the bed, thankful the pillow is at the opposite end of where the desk is. You reach out and turn off the lamp beside you. Victor had one at the desk he was working at so you don’t have to worry about cutting his light. You’re so tired that the scratching of crayons against the desk lulls you to sleep faster than you anticipate. He’s right, it’s quieter here.
~
He’s relieved he got you here, but part of him feels a little stupid. You’re human, you need conversation and such to entertain you. He can’t just put you on the shelf and just… have you here. Tomorrow was another issue. It’s not like he can keep you here all day. He’ll try, but he knows it won’t work. People don’t know about the truck, but he has no doubt that Boyd can find it if Victor does something stupid like keep you here day after day. So here comes the tedious task of trying to lure you back here with him night after night.
He could just tell you the truth, that you belong here, that he can’t explain why, but he needs to be at your side as often as possible. He pauses in his coloring. Would that even work? He doubts it. He’s had terrible luck in trying to get people to do as he says, but it has to be different this time. A flash of Eloise running out of the cellar calling for their mother goes through his mind. He fights back the tears and shakes his head to clear the memory away. No, it’ll be different this time. He’s brave enough now, strong enough now to stop you if you ever choose for whatever reason to chase after somebody through the dark.
He turns to look at you, sleeping soundly in his bed. Safe because he’s here with you. Not Ellis, or Boyd, or Abby. Him. Victor. You’re small, bigger than her but still on the smaller side. He can absolutely stop you if need be. For your own good. Because he won’t risk you, he’ll convince you somehow, someway that listening to him is best for you. Until then, he just hopes you continue to believe what he says.
~

hiya! I did check if you had a resource page but couldn't find one (sorry if I missed it!) I was wondering what re/gshade preset your using? Also how did you make your weather/task templates for gameplay like here (post/736165530204028928/completed-task-swim-for-1-hour-in-wakabas) I wouldn't even know where to start in photoshop lol Thank you!
hello, hello!! I don't have a resource page yet so don't worry! l'm using a personal, sorry.
how i make my templates under the cuts (reminder that english is not my first language and that i have photoshop in spanish so i don't know the actual name of things in english)
we'll be creating the simple one from here:
Now, for the templates, it depends on what i want to do, but i usually try to keep them simple, so I use mainly 2 photoshop tools: as you can see here, the weather template I made has (1) a rectangle layer, (2) an image and (3) text layers.
keeping this in mind, let's create a thing (a bank notification) together so I can show you the steps I follow:
(0) Create a new file
There's no size I ALWAYS use, but i usually choose a bigger size since i can always resize it down later when I use it (if it's too small and you have to resize it to be bigger, it might end up looking pixelated). You can also open one of your screenies in the size you usually edit them, and deciding how big your template has to be.
(0.1)
I recommend creating a group (using the little folder icon) where you will drop all the layers of the template so you can move it around and all that
(1) Shapes
This is the first thing I always do for this type of templates, just create a base shape that will contain all the other stuff on top. In this case i created a rectangle with rounded corners.
you can use those circles in the corners to round them or make them pointy. If you press alt while doing it, you can round corners individually.
I added a parallel shadow so it integrates better with the whole screenie, but that's a personal preference.
(2) Now, if you want to have icons/images/etc. I recommend creating another shape (in another color, just so you can see it), and positioning it where you want your image to go.
Now you want to transform that shape to an intelligent object (right click the layer and click that option). This way, if you double click the layer image, it will open in another tab: you can add your image/icon there, click save, and when you go back to the other tab, it will be there. Much easier to edit it! An intelligent object layer will look like this:
(2) Text is literally what MAKES most of templates. When you're creating templates, i recommend looking for inspo AND getting fitting fonts for it. Let's say I want to create a netflix template: i'd do a quick google search to find what fonts does netflix use. Sometimes fonts are not free, but try looking for similar ones.
I'm using manrope for this one because it's simple and easy to read, but when i'm doing this kind of phone notifications i also use fonts that are usually called something UI.
Now you only have to move things around until you like it. Then save it as a .psd so you can edit it and use it whenever you want and that's it!
(4) This is how it looks like
you can now edit it as you want, lower the base rectangle opacity, add more shadow, change the colors...
From this simple thing, i created another version using... you guessed it: another shape, another icon and another text layer. Here you can see the final templates being used in a screenie:
Honestly, don't let the big amount of tools and options photoshop scare you! As you can see, you don't need much to create something like this
Hope this was helpful enough! Let me know if you have questions 🧡

Mermaid!Thrawn x f!reader part 6
Part 1, 2, 3, 4, 5
Well, let’s just say your mother didn’t appreciate you coming back drenched to the bones in her home. For that you earned 3 months without the right of going out except for college and work, with a tracking app on your phone as a bonus. Seriously?
But today is the day your punishment is lifted, so you pedal like a maniac in the street of your small town to the library, texting Eli on the way. You roll along the cliff, near the chasm to admire the ocean as you ride your bike, you inhale the scent of ocean spray as you hurtle down the hill. Today will be a good day!
“So what do you search for exactly?” Eli asks, putting the microfilm in his reader, “I’m searching for articles on the death of the priests.” you explain, he stops mid-movement to look you dead in the eyes “You mean about this story my great uncle told you about?”, you nod and he sighs “Why?”, “I’m taking interest in true crimes lately, I just want to see if it could make a good episode to tell.” you lie. He sighs again but helps you nonetheless.
You spent around 3 hours searching through the archived articles of the gazette but found nothing potent, you press your lips into a thin line, disappointed, “The Gazette is more right-leaning, surely they would have talked about an incident at church…” he whispers, “Maybe the church opposed to the idea?”, “And lose an opportunity to play martyrs? Surely not!” Eli counters “We must have missed something.” You go back to your microfilms with more focus and it pays off! One hour later you got something
“Look at that! It says a gang of rioters put the town upside down on the night of the 6th, they tried to penetrate into habitants homes several times and even abducted an infant following “the incident at church” of the day prior,” “You think this is it?” he wonders, “The dates could match!”, “What happened next?”, “The parents fought off the abductors and saved their child, but it suffered grave cuts on the chest and back. They had to go to the hospital. The gang disappeared in an unknown location towards the sea.”,“Huh… Funny.” Eli comments. He doesn’t understand, it only makes sense to you for now. You change microfilms on your machine “Help me find the one published at this date, it should confirm my suspicions.” but impossible to find it. “You’re sure we got all the microfilms?” Eli asks suspiciously, “Yeah… I helped the librarian, there wasn’t any other box of microfilms.” then why one edition was missing? “You think the archives are incomplete?”, “That would surprise me a lot! You know how old towns love their archives.” he laughs. You bite your lips pensively, why does it have to be especially this one? Especially the one that could confirm the date and the incident. Crap! Is it a coincidence?
You rummage through all the microfilms, to no avail. You have to come to your sense : this edition is definitely lost. “Don’t be like that” Eli tries to cheer you up “I know! The University got a club of journalism, no? We could try their archives!” You nod feebly as you walk out the library, disappointed. Eli circles your shoulders with his arm “I’m sorry, I didn’t know it was so close to your heart. It is a new hobby of yours?”, “Well you know how my mother hate when I paint. She threw all my art furniture in the bins after an argument one month ago…”, “Even the merman you were painting?” your heart pinch at that memory “Yeah, even this one… She knew I put a lot of my heart in this one…” Sometimes you can’t wait until you gather enough money to run away to the city and away from your family…
“Say… You know what could clear your spirit?” He proposes “Coming to church with me!” Eli smiles broadly. You gauge him up and down not amused “You know I would burn as soon as I step foot into the buildings? I’m an impious harlot, remember?” He winces and joins his hands together “Please… Don’t let me go alone… The new priest is terrifying!” he begs you with his eyes. You look at him with a light grin. Fearless Eli who would face up an ouragan on his fish boat is trembling before a man? You can’t miss that! “Alright, but only because it’s you.” you squeeze him back.
You sit down on the bench of the church, it feels more fresh inside! You tend to forget Eli’s family is pretty religious. Except his grand uncle. You always stayed together outside of church while Eli’s inside when you were young. He told you fairy tales and legends, your parents trusted him to take care of you during this one hour outside of Eli’s parent supervision.
When you rise your head to the altar you understand what Eli’s meaned by terrifying. Perched up, judging everyone and their sins is Priest Tarkin, as cold as ever. You lower your gaze as your eyes meet, you realize everyone do the same. Nobody dares looking him in the eyes. You wanna whisper something to Eli but he’s already praying next to you, eyes closed shut, hand clasped before him, so you remain silent, looking at your feet. You discretely let your gaze navigate the room as Tarkin starts the mass to pass time.
And you froze.
Here… On the other side of the room, a few rows before yours… The gang that hunts Thrawn!
Eli yawns deeply, clearly not pleased to be on a bark at this hour of the night. “Tell me again why I accepted to follow you?”, “Because it will be worth it” you simply respond by paddling further away. He begrudgingly follows.
When you’re far enough you stop and take out your ukulele and start singing under Eli’s wide, confused eyes. He remains silent for 20 minutes and then explodes. “You have talent, I’ll give you that! But if you wanted to give me a show, my room would have been as good! and less cold.” He almost sneezes. But you don’t listen to him, you lean overboard and tap water to create waves.
You hope he will come
Surely he will come…
You then feel a claw grazing your palm and two red orbs under water. “Hi, Thrawn! Would you please hop on the bark? I got someone I would like you to meet.”, “Who are you talking to?” Eli grumbles, hugging himself in the cold “Fishes?”.
You shout him a smile and take Thrawn's hand to help him on the bark. He jumps in easily and sits in like a king, slouching with his tail resting in water, floating lazily. You turn towards Eli with hope. He looks at Thrawn with round eyes and a mouth agape. Thrawn looks back to him with a thin smirk. Eli remains silent before finally speaking “What the fuck is that?”, “Not what: who! Eli I present you Thrawn. Thrawn, Eli.” Thrawn immediately leans towards him with his hand extended to him like you teached him. Eli jolt away. “Santa Maria, It moves!”, “Yes he moves, he’s a living being” you tempers, a bit annoyed “Isn’t he marvelous?” Eli gulps, eyes fixed on the claws of Thrawn’s hand “Seriously, who the fuck is this?”. “He’s my friend!” you exclaim joyfully, Eli cross himself “You’re friend with a monster?” he asks, utterly terrified. “He’s not a monster” you protest “he’s a person!”, “I’m sorry, I don’t know any person with claws, a tail and shark teeth!” he counters. Touché! You wince “He’s a sensible person with sentiments, you’ll see when you’ll know him better. Come closer! He won’t bite!” Eli remains still “Come on, shake his hand!” you encourage. Eli tentatively extends his hand, shake it with Thrawn and takes it back as quickly. “So? What do you think?” you shout, full of excitement. “I… I don’t know…”, “What? Aren’t you excited?! Isn’t it incredible? I mean, he’s a merman! A goddamn merman!”, “Incredible, that’s for sure…” He gulps “Listen… I think I will head home.” He takes his paddles, “You… You don’t stay?” you ask, your hopes getting crushed. “No… No, I’ve got a long day tomorrow, I … I’ll call you later, okay?” and he paddles away.
You look at him disappearing in the horizon, all of your excitement melting like ice under the sun. You turn to Thrawn who observed you both behind his folded hands with an embarrassed smile “I’m sorry it happened like that. I swear he’s a great guy!” You defend Eli, Thrawn tilts his head “He’s just… He’ll need a bit of time I think.” you murmur “I shouldn’t have thrown it to his face like that…” you sigh, saddened.
Thrawn remains silent, looking at you intently. You shake yourself up and offer him a smile “Let’s not talk about that!” you take out your little white board, some markers and your sign language book “I’ve find something for you to understand me better!” you laugh.
“It is quite useless. I understand you well.”

This is the first entry for my process journal on modeling and printing a 3D figure.
The first thing to note is I have not had any prior experience with 3D modeling or printing before starting this project. My dad, however, has a 3D printer (Ender 3 Pro) that he uses often. He is also somewhat familiar with the 3D modeling program Blender, so that is the program I decided to learn.
Before starting to learn Blender, I drew a simple design of the pose and elements of my figure (image 1). The figure is of a character from a story I am currently writing—he is an angel who wears a cloak and has two sickles as weapons. I had a feeling this would be quite the undertaking for a beginner, but I also didn’t know how quickly I would pick up Blender. If I was going to learn it quickly, I wanted to have enough elements to really challenge myself with.
Once I downloaded Blender, my dad showed me the basics: how to move, scale, and rotate objects; how to add new objects and create meshes; and how to apply modifiers to an object. I also messed around a bit on my own, sculpting a circle to look like a head (image 2). However, I was going to need to learn more in order to create a full figure.
I found this YouTube tutorial by PIXXO 3D which showed me how I could model an entire figure from just a single cube. This video introduced me to mirroring and extrusion, as well as how objects can be altered by selecting and editing a single face. These new techniques allowed me to create first a torso and then limbs and a head by creating new shapes that were attached to preexisting ones. Once I learned how the techniques worked, I used the video as an example but tried to shape the figure on my own (image 3). I did run into some difficulties since the tutorial used an older version of Blender. There were certain ways of morphing an object that didn’t work the way the video showed, and so I had to figure out a different way to achieve the same effect.
After creating a full figure, I then had to pose it. I figured the best way to do so would be to separate the model into pieces that I could rotate and arrange independently of each other (image 4). (You can also see I was messing around with how to create wings—more on that later.) I moved the pieces around, splitting some of them further to achieve the pose that I wanted (image 5). Once the pose was complete, I figured out how to fill in the gaps: by selecting the edges of the gap, I was able to create a new face that joined the pieces together (image 6).
As for the wings, I came up with a technique involving bézier curves. By creating a curve, connecting it in a loop, and then subdividing it with multiple points, I was able to manipulate it into the exact shape I wanted the wing to be. Then I could convert it to a mesh and use grid fill to fill in the shape. I did run into an issue where the fill wasn’t even—there was some weird wrapping going on at the bottom, probably because of how the curve was oriented. But I decided to use it as it was for the moment—I’ll redo the wings later.
I mirrored the wing I’d made and set both of them into the back of the figure (image 7). This was a rough prototype and I wanted to try and print it. I sent my dad the .stl file and he put it into UltiMaker Cura, a program for splicing. Splicing takes a 3D model and figures out what the layers have to be for it to be printed. There were some parts that lacked support because they were hanging in the air (the hands and the wingtips), so my dad showed me how to put supports in that could easily be removed after printing. We scaled the figure to be four inches high and could see the printing would take about three hours.
This was where things got tricky. The first print attempt ended with a big spirally ball of plastic. It seemed the wings were too thin and would need more supports, otherwise the plastic wouldn’t stick to itself and would end up creating a mess. The second print went better, although there were still problems with it—namely, the torso fell out of the body (image 8). The rest of it was in decent shape, but it seems I’ll have to do some work to strengthen the connections. I assume this will involve thickening the objects in Blender so they have more surface area melding them together.
So far, I’ve been able to get the hang of Blender fairly well. This surprised me a bit, although I have had experience with photo-manipulation programs (GIMP) before, so maybe that is helping me more than I thought it would. I am glad the modeling portion is going smoothly, however, since it looks like the printing stage is going to require more finagling than I initially thought.

A while ago [see: when Stranger Things season 4 first came out] my friend and I were talking about “what would the gang think about Princess Bride? It came out around Halloween of ‘87, so they absolutely would have seen it.” And thus, the story was born.
I haven’t written a story in years [see: because college] until I just sat down one day and cranked out this 12k thing. I wrote this giant Steve Harrington x F! Reader fanfic like it sustained my whole life (it did, though, in a way).
I’m sharing it on tumblr first (it’ll go on AO3 after some minor grammatical edits) because why not.

Word Count: 11.9k
Rating: I’m gonna go with Teen but think more CW Teen than normal Teen.
Synopsis: You’ve known Steve since high school. You’ve been apart of the craziness coming from Hawkins since the beginning. And worst of all: you’ve loved Steve ever since he first took your brother under his wing—but you’ve kept it a secret. Until now. All because of The Princess Bride.
Important info: I’m a lover of pop culture, and there’s so much of that in Stranger Things, I’ve tried to keep that feeling. This is why the bulk of the story revolves around The Princess Bride and Halloween. I’ve tried to keep it within a 1987 time frame too, just because.

As You Wish
By Deylightsfictionalcompainion
Somehow the light always felt brighter after coming out of the movie theater. It wasn’t a surprise, given you went to see a matinee on a Thursday and the movie was less than two hours long, but still. That initial shock of stepping out from a darkened theater to the afternoon sun made it difficult for you to see for a while. You imagined it was the same for everyone in the group.
“Do you think when Peter Faulk said ‘As You Wish’ at the end, he was implying that maybe it was his book? Like, you can actually check it out from the library or something?” Robin asked, her rough-cut voice echoing in the parking lot. She held up a hand to her forehead to block the sun and looked back at the rest of the group.
“I very much doubt that, Robin.” Dustin let out a small chuckle. “I’ve skimmed every part of that library and I have never come across a copy of The Princess Bride by S. Morgenstern, let alone one written by Columbo.”
“Well, it still would be cool if it was an actual book to check out. But I guess I’ll just have to look into more movies directed by that guy that plays Michael Stivie from All In The Family. Personally, I think he’s a better director than actor, but that’s just me.” Robin shrugged her shoulders and grabbed the handle to the passenger door of Steve’s car, placing her weight on one foot as she waited for the rest of you to circle around the car and get in.
You caught up to her in no time and leaned in on the hood, watching as Dustin, Eddie, and Steve slowly made their way around.
You’d picked this Sunday to go because most of the group was off. Nancy and Jonathan insisted on watching it as part of their new attempt at foraging a date night together and Mike, El, Will, Max, and Lucas had already seen it last weekend—they actually convinced everyone else that they had to see it too.
“I’d love to make it into a D&D session,” Will had beamed up at Eddie during the last D&D session they’d had together. Eddie had, upon meeting Will, found it necessary to take the kid in under his wing since he was the only one of the boys that he deemed could carry on his title as DM of Hellfire. Will took an instant shining to him, and in return, started to really take his newfound apprenticeship seriously. “I think I could really work in the part about the Pit of Despair and Dread Pirate Roberts lore. You should see it so you can help me get it set up.”
“Very well,” Eddie responded to him, slouched in his chair that somehow survived Jason’s rampage through the club room. It looked a little out of place sitting in the basement of Steve’s perfectly primmed house—but Eddie had insisted if Hellfire (at least for the summer) was to continue, he’d need his chair. And since Steve was tired of being a taxi service from one end of Hawkins to the next, he’d given up and let the club just meet up in his [empty] house. “I will see The Princess Bride whenever the Henderson’s convince Harrington to take us. See for myself if I can accurately get a feel for how to home brew the storyline into Hellfire’s campaign trail.”
Dustin immediately started to bounce at the thought and turned to look at you. “You gotta convince him.” He said, his eyes shining in the way he knew you couldn’t resist. “I’m all out of favors to ask him this month, and I don’t wanna push my luck asking for another ride.”
You sighed, closing the book you were reading (well, half-reading. Sometimes the campaign they’d play was exciting enough to catch your interest, and you’d tune in to the boys—and Robin, who weirdly got into the game one night when she found out both Will and Eddie would let her seduce princesses—as they’d play). “I’ll ask him next shift. But you owe me chore duty for a week without mom knowing.”
Dustin bounced harder. “Absolutely. It’s a deal.”
Which is how you found yourself leaning over the counter, pleading with Steve the next day.
“Come on, Steve,” you’d said to him as you watched him restock the shelves of Family Video—something you honestly hadn’t expected to still be working at after the events of ’86, yet you, Robin, and Steve all got to come back. “It’s an action-adventure story. Mostly. Just a little bit of romance. And if you watch it now, you’ll be able to recommend it better once it comes to the store. Maybe woo a few hearts with it?
“It’s not the movie, Ms. Henderson,” Steve complained as he shook his head, his hair swaying. He finished putting back the last of his VHS tapes and looked up at you. “Why do I always have to be the one that drives?”
“Not that you don’t make a point,” your words fumbling out of your mouth, still trying to become used to him calling you ‘Ms. Henderson’ after you made a joke one day last week when Janet Jackson’s Nasty came on the radio. “But do you really want me to drive? I already convinced Robin to come along with Dustin and Eddie—so you know they’ll just end up dragging you along regardless—and it would be a shame to have me, the only other licensed driver of this particular bunch, drive. Especially because last time, you compared it to—”
“Max,” he sighed, placing a hand on his hip and closing his eyes. “Never again. You’re as bad as Max.”
“She’s gotten better, you know.”
“Don’t want to.”
“So you’ll drive?” You smiled at him—the one that seemed to always work, since more than once you caught him signing and closing his eyes when you’d break it out.
“Robin and I are off Thursday,” he sighed, closing his eyes.
You bounced—a Henderson trait, it seemed—and leaned farther over the counter to give him a quick hug. “Perfect. It’s a date then, Steve.” You turned around and walked over to the return bin, only half listening to Steve as he mumbled under his breath and walked towards the back of the store.
“So boys,” you said as they each got to the car, opening it and sliding in, your tone curious. “Thoughts?”
Steve started up the engine and turned down the radio. “Loved it.” He took one look in the review mirror at you and smiled before placing the car in reverse and exiting the parking spot.
“I can absolutely see how Will and I could work this into a session or two for Hellfire,” Eddie grinned, shifting in his seat so he faced you and Dustin. “Those ROUS’s would be fun to work with. And the kid was right about the Pit of Despair. God damn title for a campaign if I’ve ever heard of one. Plus I think even our little Robin would enjoy this campaign,” he turned his attention toward the passenger seat, reaching a hand to place on Robin’s shoulder. “Up for saving a princess, Buckley?”
Robin turned back to face Eddie and smirked. “Always down for saving a damsel in distress, Munson. Especially if she’s anything like that Buttercup. Ugh. Talk about Hot. I even enjoyed the romance aspect of the film, believe it or not. And that’s so totally not my thing.”
Eddie leaned back into the seat of the car. “The romance wasn’t so bad. I think I should take Chrissy when she comes home from State. She’d love it, and I’d get a chance to analyze it better.” He flashed a smile for a second before glancing quickly out of the window to hide it.
You smiled at his bashfulness, happy that Eddie and Chrissy had finally started dating after countless hours of flirting back and forth—including when he’d played Master of Puppets in dedication to her, and she, in turn, saved his life when he heroically tried to buy them time with the Demobats. He’d nearly been inconsolable when she’d finally left to attend Indiana State University in the fall, but he’d been so proud of her for getting in he’d put on a brave face until her visits back to Hawkins would come up. “I’m sure she’d appreciate the chance to see it with you,” you said, tapping Eddie’s leg and bringing him back to the present.
“Ah, yeah. Anyway,” Eddie coughed, clearing the air. “What about you? Thoughts?”
“It was sweet. Billy Crystal and Carol Kane were probably my favorite part, though. I’m also strangely craving peanuts now too.”
“Peanuts after Hellfire, please,” Dustin said, looking at you. “Will’s been waiting for us since I told him we were seeing the matinee.”
“God, Henderson, you’re going to make me drive out again to get your club snacks, aren’t you?” Steve glanced into his review mirror, his eyebrows slightly raised. “Why can’t you guys ever just eat what I’ve got at the house?”
“Because dingus,” Robin chimed in, “when you sit in on the game you try to justify every choice that we make, and I’m tired of having to explain how things work to you. It’s fantasy. You’re not supposed to sit there and question how spells work. We have to give you reasons not to bug us every five minutes.”
Steve opened his mouth for a moment before quickly closing it. He fiddled a bit with the driving wheel before quickly flicking his eyes up to the review mirror to look at you. “Fine. But since Ms. Henderson doesn’t play, she’s got to come on snack duty with me. Especially because she’s the one that wants the damn peanuts.”
You look back at him through the mirror. “I suppose that’s only fair. But it’s on your dime, Harrington.”
Steve clenched his eyes in defeat and turned the corner, mumbling under his breath again, his big, brown eyes glancing up at you every so often for the rest of the way back to his place.
…
“And that,” Will said, his voice echoing around the room, “is where we’ll have to leave off for tonight.”
The group around him made a collective of noises, disappointed that their session had ended, once again, on a cliff hanger.
“Lady Applejack could have had time to cast a spell, if you hadn’t stopped there, Byers,” Erica chided, closing her trapper keeper and shoving it under her arm. “She better get first turn next week, or you’re going to suffer for it.”
Will turned to look at Eddie, who was smiling with what looked like pride in his eyes. “You’re DMing next week, that’s on you, Eddie.”
Eddie simply nodded his head from his chair and looked at Erica. “Lady Applejack shall get the first roll next week, don’t you worry, Erica.”
Erica smiled. “Good. Come on, Lucas. Mom said we better not be late for dinner tonight, and I’m not going to be the one to have to deal with her and dad because you can’t say goodbye to your friends fast enough.”
Lucas turned to face the group. “See you all later,” he said, following Erica up the stairs. Mike followed them shortly after, muttering something about going to meet up with El early tomorrow, leaving you, Will, Eddie, Dustin, Robin, and Steve sitting around the basement.
“So,” Will began, turning his chair to face Eddie’s. “What do you think about my idea for a Princess Bride themed session?”
Eddie smiled. “I think we could make something work out.”
Will’s face lit up. “Great! What were your thoughts?”
You put down the book you’d been half-heartly reading and got up from your chair, walking over to the stairs to head up and get a drink while they talked. It wasn’t that you weren’t curious—you were—but you’d been waiting until the session ended to go up and get yourself a refill on the Coke Steve had in his fridge.
“Mind if I join you?” Steve said, following you up the stairs. “Robin refuses to leave this conversation to get herself some snacks. Said she needs to make sure the princess arc in it is challenging enough or something.”
You nodded your head as you continued up and turned to wait for him until you were both off the stairs and in the Harrington kitchen. “I only half listen into their sessions—more for the plot than game play. Plus it’s fun to watch Dustin have fun again. Thanks for letting Hellfire make base here.” You walked over to the fridge and opened it, pulling out a can of Coke for yourself. A quick open, the fizzing noise echoing in the room, and you take a swig before pulling back the bar stool from the kitchen’s island counter and sitting down. “I don’t know if I’ve ever really thanked you for being there for Dustin in a way I couldn’t, really.”
“Henderson’s a good kid. And I know you’re an amazing sister to him. But I get it,” Steve opened up a cupboard and pulled out a bag of microwave popcorn. He walked over to the microwave and popped it in, hitting some buttons until it turned on, and swung around to face you, his hips lightly resting on the edge of the counter. “Not that the little shit gave me much of a choice in the matter, but he really just needed some man-to-man conversations. Pain in my ass, still. But he’s grown on me. All those little shitheads have grown on me. They’re like—”
You take another sip of Coke and smile slightly up at Steve. “Your chicken nuggets?”
The microwave dinged and Steve blinked. “You talked to Nancy, didn’t you?”
You tactically looked around the room, taking yet another sip. “It…may have come up the day we helped Chrissy pack for State.”
Steve lowered his head, carefully turning around to open up the microwave and take out the popcorn, shaking it sadly to make sure all the pieces were covered in the fake butter from the packaging.
“Steve,” you said, your tone shifting into one of sympathetic laughter, “hey. Listen.” You got up from the stool and walked over to him, lightly placing a hand on his shoulder. “I think it’s really great that you want to have a big family. You’re good with them…even if you go around calling them shitheads all the time. You’ve kept them all safe, just like they were you own. You taught them important things, and helped them out when they asked, and most importantly?”
He turned to face you, popcorn bag in hand, his brown eyes wide and looking up at you through his lashes. It catches your breath for a second—enough for you to feel your heart skip a beat—and you have to close your own eyes to finish your sentence. “Y-you never fail to always keep on with that charming Harrington attitude. I know you hate always being the god damn babysitter, but Steve?”
His full attention is on you now, and you can feel yourself getting closer to him; his face inches from yours. “You are a genuine, caring person underneath all that hair.”
“HEY DINGUSES,” Robin’s voice shouted from the bottom of the basement stairs. “I can smell the popcorn! What is taking you so long?”
Steve backed away from you, and you turned around to grab your coke, your cheeks surely as red as they feel hot.
“Coming, your Highness,” Steve yelled out, “Or whatever it is you call yourself.”
“Dame Gaylord, for the record, Steve.” She called up. “Just hurry up with the popcorn, I’m starving down here!”
Steve looked over at you, shrugging his shoulders as he walked back down the stairs, popcorn bag in hand.
You gulp and sit down for a moment back on the stool, cradling your hands in your face.
What was that, you think, staring at the off-white counter. Did…am I going crazy? Or was that—you shake your head.
Your crush on Steve wasn’t new to you, but it had never seemed to be more than one sided. You had painfully made yourself make sure he never noticed it. So why now? Did he notice it now?
It started when you were both still in high school—he was the king of Hawkins high: all smiles, all suave charm, the way he carried himself…you couldn’t help it—but as you grew to know him, especially as he started to interact more with Dustin, taking him under his wing and helping him out; as you watched him time and time again put himself first to protect you and the rest of the gang, never failing to keep a smile on his face even in the most drastic, dangerous situations—your crush developed beyond a schoolgirl trope. You fell hard for Steve Harrington. It was hard at first to keep those feeling in check. Once or twice you had to hide your blush from him and shake it off cleverly, smiling and laughing, or changing the subject to something you know he could talk about for a ridiculous amount of time. You were pretty sure that he had no idea how much you liked him.
That is.
Until now.
The carbonated fizzle from the can of Coke beside you shook you from your thoughts, and you grabbed the can, chugging down half of it before walking back downstairs.
“But what I’m hearing,” Dustin’s voice rang through the basement, “is that you have tomorrow off.”
“I said I would think about calling off tomorrow—” Steve began, his hands planted firmly on his hips.
“Matty owes us time, Steve,” Robin said, tossing popcorn into her mouth. “We haven’t taken a day off since our shifts started back up this summer.”
You walked over to Eddie, who had his legs swung over the arm of his chair. “What exactly did I miss here, Munson?”
Eddie looked at you, a smile spreading across his face. “Midnight ride. Dustin’s trying to book us an overnight stay to finish plotting out Will’s Princess Bride session while the memory is still fresh in our heads. I know you’ve got the day off tomorrow, and I took afternoon shift at Motorwork’s. So, it’s all about convincing Harrington.”
You looked back over at Steve, who was slowly losing the battle against your brother and Robin. You couldn’t help but tilt your head a little bit and smile. He’d cave. He always caved for those two.
“Word has it, Henderson,” Eddie adjusted how he was sitting and leaned in closer to you, his hair brushing against the back of your head. “That all it would take to get him to cave right this minute is a smile from you.”
You snap your head to face Eddie, your brows knit. “On whose authority?” You questioned, your tone coming out angrier than you meant.
“I have eyes, Henderson. Unfortunately,” he leaned back into his chair, crossing his ankles and linking his hands together to support the back of his head. “I also know that sometimes our own eyes fail us at seeing the bigger picture when everyone else already can.”
You stared at him for a moment, your expression unchanging. Eddie was an assortment of flavors—you’d seen him go from being a chaotic punk to screaming child to love sick puppy in under 24 hours—but he never said anything that wasn’t true. And that would also mean that earlier…you weren’t imagining…
“How long,” your voice was quieter as you leaned back towards Eddie. “Have you noticed?”
“For you, darling?” He smirked. “First time I saw you two together. You were worse than I was with Chrissy.”
You bit your lip slightly. “And him?”
“Now, what would be the fun in telling you that?” He brought his arms back down off of his head and rubbed them on his thighs. “All I know is that if I had that kind of power over Harrington—and believe me, I’ve tried—I wouldn’t waste it.”
You blinked. A shiver ran down your spine and something inside your head—a usually very, very quiet voice—rang out. “If you won’t tell me,” you began, your eyes now focused on Steve, who was standing with both hands on his hips, slowly deflating under the weight of Dustin and Robin’s harassment. “Then at least help me figure out how to harness it.”
Eddie’s face lit up. He chuckled as he straightened out on his chair, his feet landing firmly on the floor. “Didn’t you say you wanted peanuts earlier?”
“Steve,” your voice came out louder than you anticipated, “call off tomorrow. It’s a Friday in October and the theater has better options. Matty can handle one night. Besides, you deserve a day off. Not to mention that I still want peanuts, and we’ve yet to go out and get some. We can pick up stuff to make for breakfast while we’re out.”
Steve looked at you, eyebrows raised. His stance softened a little and he tilted his head. “Why are you—”
“Are you seriously questioning my sister right now, Harrington? Go get her the damn peanuts. And pick up some Tang for the morning!” Dustin said, slapping Steve’s back.
You smiled—the one that seemed to always work; the one Eddie had noticed and said something about to you—and you watched. You watched as Steve sighed and closed his eyes.
“Anything else I can get for you assholes here at Harrington’s Bed and Breakfast?”
…
The drive out to the store felt awkward to you, but you did your best to ensure that it didn’t feel like that for Steve. It was hard, though, now that you’d had Eddie confirm Steve clearly had feelings for you to keep your usual calm, playful demeaner you’d worked so hard on the past several years. You’d tried simply keeping the volume up on the radio—you both loved to sing along to it, despite the fact that neither of you were exceptionally good at it—but that only worked until Tiffany’s I Think We’re Alone Now came on, and you couldn’t help but think that whoever was working the radio at the time was playing a cruel, cruel joke on you.
“I thought you loved this song,” Steve said, shifting his head quickly to look at you after you went to change the station. “Why change it?”
He reached over your hand and changed it back, turning it up.
“I think we’re alone now,” he sang at you, loudly. “There doesn’t seem to be anyone around.” He shook his shoulders and tapped the steering wheel in time to the song. “Come on, Ms. Henderson. Don’t even try to deny it. I’ve seen you sing this song into your hairbrush.”
“The beating of our hearts is the only sound.” You sang back at him, the smile returning to your face.
“There she is! That’s my girl,” he chuckled. He turned the volume up louder and you both sang along to the rest of the song until finally you pulled into the Kroger parking lot and he pulled into a spot, killed the engine, and turned to face you.
“Penny for your thoughts,” Steve said, looking at you, his brown eyes darker in the florescent glow of the parking lot lights.
“I am just focused on our task at hand,” you waved your hand at him and reached down to unbuckle your seatbelt. “That’s all.”
“Getting peanuts shouldn’t distract you enough that you change the radio station like that. I know you better, give me a little credit.”
You turned to face him, taking in how he was propped up in his chair; one arm over top the steering wheel, the other linked back around the seat. “I…I,” you had no idea how to bring out the question do you like me like I like you? in any manner that wouldn’t be embarrassing, so you just said the first thing that came out of your mouth instead. “I am just trying to think about how the boys and Robin are going to put The Princess Bride into their campaign.”
Steve blinked back at you. “S-sure.” He said, not quite believing you, you could tell, but also too polite to call you out on what clearly was a lie. “I mean, if they had asked me, I would have told them to focus mainly on the dread pirate Roberts stuff and go from there.”
The look you gave Steve was one you couldn’t stop yourself from making even if you tried. “Have you thought about this? I thought you didn’t understand D&D?”
“Yeah, well, I don’t get how you play that stupid game, but I know how to tell a story, thank you very much.” He said, taking his hand out from behind his seat and turning himself front facing. “I watched the same movie you guys did. In fact,” his tone in voice shifted, one that sounded like it had a bit of pride mixed in with shame. “I’ve seen the movie twice already.”
“When the fuck did you have time to see the movie?” You blurted out, unable to stop yourself.
“First time was on a date with…Stacey? Or maybe Sandy. Can’t remember. Second time was by myself, because Stacey-slash-Sandy was too busy trying to stick her tongue down my throat for me to pay attention to the movie. And I just. Really wanted to pay attention to it. It was a good movie.” He sighed and turned to face you. “That’s why when you asked me to drive you all to the theater, I wasn’t upset about the movie choice.”
You blinked. Fast at first, and then slowly a second time. “Steve Harrington likes a rom com.”
“You make it sound like I’m not allowed to enjoy movies with romance in them.” Steve said, offended.
“No, it’s not that. I just. Never pegged you for someone who would go see a movie like that on your own. The date thing I get. Me and the rest of the gang dragging you to a movie, yes. But on your own?”
“Yeah, well, a lot about me had changed in these last few years, if you hadn’t noticed. Though you should,” he said, his hand coming up to rest on your shoulder. You shivered. “You’ve been there alongside me. Hell, helped me change even. I’ve got a lot to thank you for, Ms. Henderson.”
You smiled at him, soft; warm. “Really?”
“Shit yeah, Henderson. You seem to genuinely care about me and call me out on my bullshit when I need it.” He looked down and smiled, his voice shifting in tone. “You’ve helped pick me back up and sewn me back together after all those times I’ve taken a beating; shown me how to grow and find ways to be part of the solution rather than the problem. I’m really lucky to have you in my life.”
The red in your face burned. But you didn’t care. “Steve, I—”
He cut you off with a single look up through his eyelashes. “There’s something I’ve been meaning to ask you for a while now. But I’ve never had the chance to. Until now.” He took a deep breath, letting it out slowly as he leaned in closer to you. “I’ve had a crush on you for a while now. I just didn’t know how to tell you in case you didn’t feel the same way I did. I didn’t want to ruin what we already have by putting my feelings into the mix. But I have to tell you now. Especially after what almost happened in the kitchen. I’d regret it if I didn’t.”
You stared at him. For several seconds, unsure of what to do. It was like being caught in headlights.
He stared back; tried to lean back to give you your space, his hopeful smile starting to faulter, but you grabbed his hand tightly in yours and squeezed. “Steve, I…” you start, your brain firing off thoughts in different directions and your mouth unable to release any of them.
“Hey,” he said, patting your hand. “It’s okay. I get it if you—”
You pulled him in and lightly placed a kiss to his lips, messy and simple, because it’s all you could think to do to let him know how you feel; that his feelings were reciprocated.
When you pull back, Steve’s eyes were closed, his mouth slightly opened. You stared at him like this, wondering if what you did was the right move when his eyes snapped open and his mouth spread into the biggest grin you’d ever seen.
“I am going to take that as a positive sign,” he said before leaning in closer to you. He grabbed both of your hands and looked down at them, his thumbs rubbing random patterns into your palm. “But I would really, really love it if you’d say something.”
You looked down at your hands, your brain still processing what you’d just done, unable to look at him in the eye yet.
“Hey,” Steve lifted up your chin and brushed your hair carefully behind your ear. “I’m kinda sticking myself out on a limb right now and I could use some good old Henderson comforting I’ve come to love.”
Your brain finally stopped. “I’ve had a crush on you for a while, too.”
“That was what I was hoping you’d say,” he said, bringing his face in closer to yours, inches from your mouth. “There’s just one more thing I’m hoping for, though.”
You looked up from his mouth and into his eyes, confusion swirling in your thoughts.
“There is?” You breathed, so close to him you could hear the beat of his heart and smell his shampoo.
“Tell me that I can finally kiss you.” He whispered. “A real one.”
You smiled—the same one you’ve used so many times before. “Absolutely.”
Steve smiled back. “Have I ever told you that that little smile of yours does things to me that I’m not particularly proud to admit in detail yet?”
“Steve,” you plead, your arm now reached up and carded through his hair.
“Tell me I can kiss you again?” He said, his lips brushing against yours and his nose nudging your cheek.
“For you, Harrington?” you said, bringing him in closer. “You can kiss me any time you want.”
You felt his smile as he kissed you; light and soft at first, quickly turning into something deeper as he slid his hand from the base of your jaw to your ear, slowly combing through your hair as he cupped the back of your head. It was breathless and loving, unlike any kiss you’d had before. You lost yourself within his embrace and it was only when he bit your bottom lip, pulling you closer and tilting your head that you were able to catch your breath. In doing so, you moved your hand to his shoulder and forced yourself to pull apart, deep breaths taking over you both and fogging up the windows surrounding you.
“That was—” you started, your focus still lingering on his mouth.
“Worth the wait,” he finished, resting his forehead on yours. He grinned and leaned back in again to steal two more kisses from your lips before you pushed yourself off of him again, giggling.
“Steve,” you protested as he turned his head and began gently placing kisses along your jawline and down to your neck. “Steve, we’ve still got to go in and get those peanuts or everyones going to get suspicious.”
“Who gives a shit about what they think,” Steve said in-between kisses. “We’re alone now. I’ve finally got you all to myself, and I don’t want to waste a second of that.”
You felt a jolt of electricity tingle in your head and it softened your eyes. You could just forget about everything for a while—enjoy they fact that Steve Harrington was here, kissing you after professing his crush. And wouldn’t that be enough?
You grabbed Steve’s head, pulling him up so you could look him soundly in the eyes. His hair was messy, his pupils blown, and his lips plump from kissing you. He looked almost feral—flushed and salacious—but still soft, comforting, gentle. “I promise,” you stroked his cheek with your thumb, doing your best to hold his attention. “I won’t let you waste any second you’re with me. But there will be so much more time for that if we get what we came for and go back to your place. Steve,” you gave him a quick kiss, reminding him you were still there with him, “the quicker we do this, the quicker I can show you just how long I’ve waited for you.”
Steve stared at you, his eyes trained on yours.
“Because there’s only so much I can show you in a car. It’s…a little cramped. I expect your bed will accommodate many more things.”
He pulled himself from your grasp at that, and you watched as your words ignited a fire in him. “Pancakes or French toast for breakfast?” He said, opening up the car door and swinging his leg out. “Come on, Ms. Henderson. Let’s go! Move your ass, we’ve got things to take care of. Mainly…me.”
“As you wish,” you chuckled as you opened the door and stepped out in the cold night air.
…
Halloween was Saturday. The Byers were throwing a party because the kids all complained they were too old for trick-or-treating, and you and Steve had decided to go in on a couples costume as The Princess Bride herself and The Dread Pirate Roberts.
Steve was more excited about it than you—he hadn’t stopped telling everyone about how much he loved the film (even though Robin, sick of hearing him quote the movie endlessly at her, threatened to push him down a hill if he didn’t stop it at work), and he was quick to ask you about doing couples costumes once he stopped prompting make-out sessions.
“I didn’t take Steve Harrington for one wanting to do couples costumes.” You said when he’d asked you.
“What can I say?” He responded, hand on his hip. “I like to surprise people. Plus I’ve been thinking about all the things I used to be—who I was in high school—really wasn’t who I wanted to be. It was all some deliberate attempt to be someone my father wanted me to be. Everything that people say you should care about, it’s all just bullshit. When I’m with you, I feel like I can drop the bullshit and just be myself. And myself is someone who wants to do a couples costume with you from a really good movie.”
You stepped closer to him and grabbed his hand, kissing his cheek and smiling. “That is why I started liking you in the first place. Because I watched you challenge yourself to be the best possible version of you that you could be.”
Steve blushed. “Turns out all I needed was a thump on the head to change my life. And I’m grateful for it every single damn day.”
You cupped his face and rubbed your thumb along his cheek before pulling him into a hug. “I am too.”
“I’ll see you and Dustin after my shift tonight.” He said, breaking away from the hug. “You’re going to have to tell me how you convinced Matty to give you the best shifts when I get there.”
You laughed. “I don’t get the best shifts. I just get lucky. I also don’t spend half of my shift trying to flirt with you, Steve.”
Steve shifted his stance. “You saying you want me to stop, Henderson?”
“No,” you chuckled. “I’m just saying Matty doesn’t do love-sick.” And love-sick was probably the best way to describe Steve ever since last Thursday. It was almost like he couldn’t get his fill of you—stolen glances as you two put movies back on shelves; winks and nods while on lunch; a stealthy grabbing of your hand as he walked you to his car at the end of a shift, a passionate kiss sometimes on the hood that left you both aching for something more.
Those days were the best, because as he drove you back home, anticipatory for intimacy, you’d talk. About your day, about your struggles and excitements and plans for the not-so-distant future dates you’d take. The make-out sessions you’d had in his car were amazing (Steve was an excellent kisser. More importantly, he was good with his hands. The way he’d cup your face, his thumb on your jawline, fingers behind your ear. How it slowly slid back until he held the base of your skull and moved your head so he could get the best angle. How his other hand carefully caressed your back and slid to your hips…or sometimes…sometimes, when the day had been particularly stressful, he’d reach around and lift up the side of your shirt to cup your breast, teasing your nipple in such a way that it would send a wave of pleasure through you and create a small hitch in your breath that always produced a toothy smirk from him. This was, of course, followed by a pull on your lips so forceful it dragged your entire head forward and allowed the kiss to become deeper—his mouth opening yours and his tongue finding its way inside. You’d get him back, though. After the kiss deepened, you’d push him backward and climb on top of him, running your fingers through his ridiculously perfect hair; starting at the base of his neck and grabbing and pulling it slightly once your whole hand had found its way into the feathered layers. Then you’d grind into him a little bit until you could feel the bulge in his pants, give him your own deepened kiss until you could hear him moan, and then…excuse yourself off of him, kiss him one last time—soundly on his cheek or forehead or a peck on the lips—and bid him goodnight, enjoying the dazed and confused look he gave as he watched you walk up to the front door and blow him a kiss before stepping inside) but those conversations before then were something even better. You’d always been close to Steve, but this was new territory. And it felt…right.
“Lucky, sure.” Steve picked up a bunch of VHS tapes and walked over to an aisle. “I’ll see you tonight, Ms. Henderson.”
…
“Hey,” Dustin called through your closed door, knocking once before letting himself in. “I just need a bit of help getting my hair just right.”
You looked him up and down, smiling at your brother’s costume. “Han Solo. I am guessing Suzie is Leia?”
“Yeah. We’re going to be calling each other later tonight to watch Empire Strikes Back together over the phone.” He sighed, sitting down on your vanity chair. “But for now, I’d like some help getting my hair to be less curls, more poof.”
You chuckled and moved towards him to help. “No problem.”
“Are you and Steve going as Princess Buttercup and Westley? Your costume looks spot-on.”
“We are. And thanks, Steve sewed it himself.”
Dustin broke away from your comb and turned to face you. “Steve knows how to sew?”
“He took Home Economics our sophomore year to impress some girls and wound up actually enjoying it. Says it was worth the entire class because now he knows how to hem his pants and cook basic meals—which he also thought doubled his chance at being able to woo women.” You turned Dustin back to face the mirror and started to brush out his curls again, taming them with whatever product you could find so they fanned out around his face.
“I have heard the ladies love a man who knows how to cook,” he said, watching you work in the mirror, a giant grin on his face.
“Ladies love a man that knows how to take care of themselves, Dustin. That’s like…bare minimum qualification. Know how to take care of yourself, which includes being able to ask for help when you need it. And, suffice to say little brother, you’ve got that down.” You applied some hair spray to the top of Dustin’s head and leaned down so your face was right next to his. “Suzie is one lucky lady to have a guy like you.”
“Thanks,” his face turned a light shade of red. “But I feel like I’m the lucky one.” He took one last look in the mirror before he got up and headed toward your door. “I’ll be downstairs with Steve, attempting to calm mom down about us leaving for the night. But don’t take too long. I’m starving, and Argyle is supposed to be bringing pizza. I want to get there before there’s nothing but pineapple left.”
You smiled. “Be down in a minute, then.”
It was time for the final check. You walked over to your mirror to look at your reflection. Buttercup’s head piece was neatly pinned into the cheap wig you’d picked up and her belt was securely wrapped around your waist. The bottom of the bright red dress was hemmed perfectly so that it fell down at your ankles and you smiled in spite of yourself, feeling like an actual princess. You only got to see Steve’s costume once while he was giving you yours, but it wasn’t on him—just casually draped over the back of a chair. In fact, the only part of the ‘costume’ you’d gotten to see at all was the thin little mustache Steve had been growing since you agreed to do the couples costume. It was a good look for him, actually.
A final brush of your dress and you opened your door.
“Dustin said you were almost ready, but to try and convince you to come down faster so he wouldn’t be stuck with pine—wow.” Steve took a step back from your door, glancing at you up and down. “That dress really. It really works for you.”
You grinned and looked down at the dress. “Thanks. You don’t look so bad yourself.”
Steve regained his composure and took a bow. “At your service. M’lady.”
You giggled and pushed past him, heading for the stairs. You could have stayed there, in your doorway, eyeing him up and down in that costume though. His pants were a little tighter than the ones Cary Elwes wore, and the thread that was supposed to lightly fasten the top of his shirt was loose, exposing the top of his chest hair. He’d yet to put on the mask and black cloth around his hair, but that was what made it better. But if you did that, you knew you’d never get to the party on time and Dustin would berate you for missing the non-pineapple pizza for the next three weeks.
“Let’s get going to the party, less Han over here gets stuck with pineapple pizza,” you called out as you descended the staircase. “We’ll be home late tonight, mom. If you desperately need us, call the Byers.”
“Finally!” Dustin threw his hands up and opened up the front door. “Let’s go, Harrington! Get your ass down here so we can leave.”
“Yeah, yeah, don’t get your panties in a twist, Henderson.” Steve said, trailing out the door and unlocking his car. “We still have to pick up Robin and Vicki.”
You followed them both out, blowing a kiss to your mom before shutting the door behind you and heading towards Steve’s car.
“Why are you always the chauffeur?” Dustin asked, opening up the backseat and sliding in.
“You know, Henderson? I ask myself that same god damn question every single time I get in my car.” The engine roared to life. “If you—either of you—want to tell me how I ended up with this job, I’d really like to know.”
…
Hopper opened up the door, his skin painted green and a brown suit swimming on his body. “Glad you kids could make it!” He said, moving to the side to let you all in. “Argyle’s late with the pizza, but we’ve broken out snacks until he gets here.”
“Thanks, Hopper.” Dustin said, pushing past him. “Good to know I won’t miss out on the good pizza.”
You smiled as you walked past Hopper, your hand holding Steve’s.
“Well, that’s new.” Hooper closed the door and turned back around to face you. “When did this happen?”
“A couple weeks ago,” Steve said, gripping your hand tighter. “But it’s been a long time coming.”
Hopper laughed. “I know the feeling. Joyce is around here somewhere, make sure you tell her the party’s going great. She’s been on edge since this morning about decorations and party games. Even though I told her you kids were probably just going to end up playing that game you guys always play. Or watching whatever monster flick is on the tube tonight.”
“Will do, Herman.” You nodded your head at Hop, letting a single chuckle escape your mouth.
“And here I thought you kids wouldn’t get The Munsters reference.” Hopper smoothed down his jacket, grabbing it by the lapels once done.
You smiled and pulled Steve forward into the living room, where you found everyone else sitting around, talking.
“I see Buttercup and Westley have made their grand entrance, finally.” Eddie said, standing up from his seat to walk over to you. “M’Lady,” he made a swift bow when he reached you, his hair falling down in front of his face and his arm raised behind him. “Glad to see that you could make it with Harrington, in matching costume, no less.”
Steve pushed Eddie back slightly on the shoulder and grinned. “Looks like we’re not the only one in matching costume.” He pointed towards Chrissy, who was busy talking to Nancy.
“Aragorn and Arwen, from Tolkien’s masterpiece, dude.” Eddie grinned, his face going soft when he looked at Chrissy. “I sent her with all the books to read while at State. She’s really gotten into them. She’s the one who suggested we go as Aragorn and Arwen, and I couldn’t pass up an opportunity to dress as the great Strider.”
Steve’s expression turned into one you recognized as confusion. “This is like, related to that Mordor thing, isn’t it?”
“Lord of The Rings, Harrington.” Eddie patted him on the back. “It’s a good thing you’re pretty.”
“Alright!” You clapped your hands, walking farther into the room. “Who’s ready to finally have some fun for once?”
“I know I am,” you turned to see Max approach you, dressed as Freddy Kruger—or, at least you thought that’s what she was going as from the looks of her sweater and hat.
“Bit too much on the nose, don’tcha think, Red?” Eddie sat down next to Chrissy, who beamed up at him, and wrapped his arm around her.
“Thought it was funny. Plus I wanted an excuse to wear a sweater and jeans,” Max said, plopping down on the couch across from where you stood. “Lucas wanted us to do a couples costume this year, but he and I couldn’t agree on one we both liked. So, I chose Freddie Kruger, and he—”
“Decided to go as The Terminator,” Lucas finished, walking into the room wearing a leather jacket and a pair of sunglasses. “I ran out of time at the last minute because someone didn’t want to do The Breakfast Club with me.”
“Sorry Lucas,” Max said. “But I’m no princess. No offense,” she added, looking at you and Chrissy.
“Oh, none taken, Max! Truth be told,” Chrissy said, adjusting her legs so they no longer crossed. “I always hated being shoved into that princess stereotype, so I understand. Before I met you guys, I didn’t think I’d ever be able to break it.”
“With that roundhouse you’ve got,” Eddie beamed, “I never doubted for a second you were anything but a terrifying badass.”
“Yeah Chrissy,” Dustin chimed in. “Who’d a thought you could take out so many demobats with backflips and cheer movies. Most metal thing I’ve ever seen.”
Chrissy blushed, tucking away a strand of strawberry blonde hair behind her ear. “Thanks guys. And also, just for the record, Arwen isn’t a princess. She’s the daughter of Elrond; Lady of Rivendell and later Queen of the Reunited Kingdom.”
Eddie placed a kiss to the side of Chrissy’s head. “That’s my girl.”
You chuckled and shook your head, turning to face Max. “Believe me, Max. I don’t think anyone here is princess material, despite their costumes.”
“I thought about being a princess,” El chimed in, her hair piled in curls on top of her head. “But then Mike and I went to see Alien and I thought I would make a much better Ellen Ripley.”
You turned to get a better look at El and realized she was in a near-perfect replica jumpsuit, complete with a stuffed cat and plastic gun slung around her.
“You make an excellent Ripley, El,” Lucas said, opening up a piece of candy from the table in the middle of the room. “You’d also give her a run for her money. Not that I think you two would fight. But….that might be a cool match to see.”
You leaned over to Steve to let him know you were going to go grab something to drink before walking out of the living room and towards the kitchen. The Byers’ house was a lot bigger now that Hopper and Joyce were living together and you could tell it was slowly becoming well-loved. Pictures hung up in the hallway on your way there: Will smiling as he was painting, Jonathan contemplating in the background; El and Will sitting on the couch reading together; Jonathan and El sitting on the floor of the living room, headphones on and listening to music; Joyce and Hopper smiling and looking at each other, snow on the ground with Christmas lights in the background; all five of the found family laughing around a table covered in pumpkin guts from last year’s Halloween. It was comforting to know that they were able to create a sense of normalcy again after all the trauma they’d endured the past couple of years.
“Princess Buttercup.” Will’s voice, now deeper than it had been just a summer ago, caught you off guard as you entered the kitchen.
“Luke Skywalker.” You took a step back, your head tilted to get a better look at his costume.
Will smiled before pulling down on the black sweater he was wearing. “I’m glad you know who I am.”
“I’m sorry sweetie,” Joyce bent down and put a glass pan that appeared to be full of cheese inside the oven. “I’m sure he’s a wonderful character from that film series you and Jonathan won’t stop talking about. I’m just a little preoccupied at the moment.”
“Mrs. Byers,” you said, as you took a step closer to her, “do you need any help with that?”
“Sweetheart,” she replied, adjusting her long, black wig that had fallen forward on her face. “I’ve told you—all of you kids, actually—Joyce is just fine. Thanks for the offer, but I’ve got it handled!”
“She’s just making some nachos to tide us over until Argyle gets here, whenever that may be.” Will said as he walked over to the kitchen table to put on a belt. “I could use your help with this, though. I couldn’t find a scabbard to wear, but I did manage to construct Luke’s lightsaber and belt just right. I even found a pair of boots at the thrift shop that work. But…I can’t seem to get it on without help.”
“No problem,” you stepped forward and turned Will around to help attach the belt.
“I’m guessing that Steve is dressed as Westley?” Will questioned, his head turning slightly to the side to see your face.
“Yeah. It was his idea too. He’s seen the movie something like three times now and convinced me we’d be the perfect Buttercup and Westley.”
Will let out a small laugh. “I’m glad you guys are going out. It was painfully obvious to everyone else that you two needed to end up together—”
“God, every single time we had Murray over for dinner he wouldn’t stop talking about putting you both in a room rother until you came out a couple.” Joyce called from the pantry, interrupting Mike mid-sentence and causing you to raise your eyebrows. “I knew eventually you two would work it out—like Hop and I did—because god knows Murray doesn’t need to control everyone’s love life around here.”
“I like Murray well enough, but she’s got a point.” Will said, holding his belt up as you gave it one last adjustment before turning him around to face you. “We all knew you’d wind up together one way or another. Except maybe Mike. He still thinks Robin and Vicki are just friends.”
You snorted a laugh. Robin had come out to the group a little after what happened last spring, right before Steve helped her get the courage to ask Vicki out. Everyone took it pretty well—especially Will and Eddie, who hugged her excessively when she was trembling her way through her speech—but Mike had just sort of stood there, unable to grasp what it was Robin was saying. “He’s very dense. Nice, but…”
“Yeah,” Will sighed, stepping back and smoothing out his pants. “Thanks for helping me. Though I’m sure that’s not what you came into the kitchen for in the first place.”
You blink, trying to remember what it was that you came in here for. “Coke.” You finally blurt out, your thoughts distracted by the tone in Will’s voice.
Will turned and headed over to the fridge to pull out a can for you, his arm stretched out as he comes back. You wavered a bit before you decided to reach out and pull him into a hug, your arms clasping around his back, his hand still outstretched, holding a Coke. Everyone had been through a lot over the years, but it was always Will that seemed to need a little more comforting than everyone ese. You knew Jonathan would always be there for him, and since Eddie had met him, he’d made sure Will knew he was accepted into the Hellfire club. But still. Maybe it was just the sister instinct that took over when you were around Will that made you want to comfort him. “Thanks Will.” You pulled back from him and smiled, grabbing the Coke out of his hand. “Make sure Dustin see’s your outfit. I have a feeling he’ll go bananas over it.”
Joyce walked out of the pantry, a bag of tortilla chips in her hand. “Happy again to hear about you and Steve, sweetheart. These nachos should be done in a couple minutes, make sure to let everyone know there’s something here in lieu of pizza.”
“Will do, Mrs. Munster.” You smiled.
“Lily.” Joyce corrected.
You laughed as you walked out of the kitchen and back towards the living room.
“Robin and Vicki did a couples costume! We could have had the whole Breakfast Club!” You heard Lucas shout as you entered the room. You saw in the corner that Robin and Vicki had finally made their way into the Byers house (they opted to stay in the car to get ready, as when you went to pick them up, neither one of them had costumes on), and you couldn’t help but wonder why they were dressed as Ally Sheedy and Molly Ringwald from The Breakfast Club of all things.
“Feel free not to answer,” you said, walking up to the two ladies. “But The Breakfast Club?”
Vicki smiled and placed her hand on Robin’s shoulder. “Your idea, so you explain it to her.”
Robin took a sip from the cup she was holding and closed her eyes. “So,” she began, her voice competing with the sound of the music someone had put on while you were gone, “you’ve seen the movie, right? There’s that scene, in the end, where Molly Ringwald’s character takes Ally Sheedy to the side and completely redoes her make up. Which, first of all, didn’t need to be done. Because she was just fine the way she was. But, more importantly, she did the make up the way she though would make her look better. It was soooo intense. And it just, clicked? You know? They totally could have been a couple. The princess and the oddball. It’s a huge literary trope, so, why couldn’t it be like that with the two of them? Honestly, that whole film could have been the gateway into making gay history. I mean, it’s clearly an undertone of the entire film. It’s subtext—”
“Robin, sweetheart,” Vicki chimed in, placing a hand on Robin’s shoulder. “The film did a pretty good job with the written material, regardless of the subtext. Not that your theory isn’t fascinating. But…I thought Claire’s make-over for Allison was nice. All she did was wash her face and pull her hair up so you could see her eyes. I liked how simple it was.”
“Vicki, Vicki, Vicki,” Robin said, turning to face her girlfriend. “You’re missing the point. We’ve talked over this! It’s—”
Vicki placed a finger on Robin’s lips. “Okay, smartypants. I secede. Why don’t we go and get something to eat? I’ve been smelling nachos for the past five minutes, and I want to grab some before the teenaged boys do and leave nothing left for us.”
Robin smiled. “Yes. I am famished.” She turned back to face you, her hand now captured in Vicki’s. “As for you, don’t think I didn’t notice how you’re dressed up as Buttercup when Steve is Westley. You and I will have a chat about that later! I know I can convince you to have him stop quoting that damn movie all the time!”
Vicki tugged at Robin’s arm and the two headed back to the kitchen.
You went to go and stand next to Steve, who was sitting on the arm of the chair next to Dustin, watching Michael Jackson’s Thriller video on the TV, when the front door opened.
“Happy Halloween, brochacos,” Argyle said, walking through the front door, bringing with him the scent of pizza and weed. “I’ve brought the pizza and Halloween because I think it’s absolutely the right way to go about today.” He set down five pizza boxes on the couch and held up a VHS. “And one of those pies has pineapple, my guys. May I remind you again, try before you deny.”
El smiled. “I enjoy pineapple on my pizza, Argyle. But I do not understand your costume.”
Argyle laughed. “I am Brand from The Goonies, my alien fighting friend.” He snapped at his red head band. “Please tell me someone here has shown her the greatest movie of our time.”
“I’ll make sure she sees it, Argyle.” Will said, walking over towards El. “It’s one of my favorites. It’s about a group of kids that go on a treasure hunt in order to save their home. Mikey’s optimism got me through the worst of the nightmares after last spring. He just. Reminds me of someone I know. I think you’ll really like it.”
“If Will says it’s a good movie,” El said, “then I will be sure to watch it, Argyle. But first…pizza.”
“Second on that,” Nancy said, moving out from her corner and towards the couch, adjusting her sweater and corduroy pants. “Thanks for bringing the pizza, Argyle.”
“Totally no problemo, Nance. Or should I say…?”
“Oh, I’m Carrie Fisher’s character in The Blues Brothers. Jake is around here somewhere.” Nancy said, picking up the gun she’d placed on the floor.
You looked closely at the gun, your eyebrows raising when you realized—
“Excellent prop gun, Nance!” Argyle smiled, his entire face beaming with joy for a moment before his eyebrows crossed. “Right?”
Eddie snickered from the corner. “Guess again, my friend.”
“Can’t be too lenient around here, even if things have quieted down. Had to work this thing into my costume somehow. It was easy enough to dress Jonathan up in a suit, too. Plus,” Nancy walked over to the pizza, opened the box, and took out a slice. “I just like Carrie Fisher.”
“Me too,” Argyle said, his smile returning to his face. “I don’t know if I would have gotten that one right away. Not like Westley and Buttercup over there from the second greatest movie of our time.”
“Thank you!” Steve said dramatically, raising his arms. “I am not the only one here with taste.”
“It’s not that you don’t have taste,” Robin walked over towards the pizza, a can of Coke in her hand from the kitchen. “It’s that you’re annoying about it.”
Steve just stared at her, his mouth slightly open, trying to think of something to say back to her.
“Aw man, just let it go. Best not to argue with Allison Reynolds.” Argyle slapped Steve on the back. “Which. Digging the costume, Robin. I take it Vicki is Claire, because of that whole make-up scene, right?”
“Argyle,” Robin said, opening up the pizza box with pineapple and grabbing a slice. “You have excellent taste.”
“Thanks, dude. Now,” Argyle slapped Steve on the back again, causing him to flinch slightly. “Why don’t you and your princess come grab a slice of pineapple before it’s all gone. My taste extends beyond that of film!”
You grabbed Steve’s hand and walked over to grab a slice of pizza together, enjoying the atmosphere of being surrounded by your friends.
…
“You seem a decent fellow,” Steve said, circling the table in the middle of the living room. “I hate to die.”
You watched as Steve and Dustin continued to circle each other, Steve holding up his plastic sword and Dustin his plastic blaster. Everyone was in various degrees of watching them—Eddie was enthralled by their performance while Robin and Vicki had left the room completely after Steve brought out the movie quotes.
“This is such a boring conversation,” Dustin stopped circling and held up his blaster. “Besides, ancient weapons are no match for a good blaster at your side.”
“There is something I ought to tell you,” Steve said, his sword now in front of his face—which had lost the mask and bandana long ago, giving his hair a wild look to it.
“Oh? As long as it’s not the odds. Never tell me the odds.” Dustin motioned his plastic blaster so it dropped a little.
“Get used to disappointment.” Steve lunged forward at the exact time Dustin began making blaster sounds and ran his sword under Dustin’s arm.
“Laugh,” Dustin choked, dramatically falling to his knees. “It,” he dropped his blaster and looked down at the floor before lying down, the sword still sticking out from his armpit. “Up,” he coughed. “Fuzzball.” Dustin closed his eyes and curled up, faking his death like the dramatic kid he was.
You clapped. “Alright, can we please head out now? Some of us have to work in the morning, you know.”
Steve turned to you, his expression of satisfaction still plastered on his face.
“You’re really not going to mourn the death of your own brother?” Dustin said, looking up at you from the floor.
“I shouldn’t need to mourn. Han Solo doesn’t miss. Maybe you should have dressed as a Stormtrooper,” you joked, watching Dustin’s brow furl. “Kidding. I’m very sad for you, Dustin. But I also really just want to take a shower and get to bed. It’s almost eleven. Half the party is gone, anyway.”
Besides Robin, Vicki, Eddie, and Chrissy, everyone had trickled out of the Byer’s house throughout the night.
“Your sister’s right, Henderson,” Steve said, walking over to you and wrapping his arm around your shoulder. “Besides, aren’t you supposed to call Suzie tonight or something?”
Dustin shot up. “She’s gonna kill me if I’m late! Movie’s on at midnight.” He rushed to the door. “Robin! Vicki! Let’s go! Thanks for the party, Mrs. Byers! See you at Hellfire, Will!”
You shook your head and waited for everyone to say their thank you’s and goodbyes before walking out and getting into Steve’s car. You dropped Robin and Vicki off first, then turned the radio on and enjoyed the ambiance of Halloween decorations to Michael Jackson’s Thriller. When you finally pulled into your driveway, Dustin shot out of the car, barely thanking Steve as he ran into the house to call Suzie.
“That kid has it bad,” Steve said, shutting off the engine.
“Suzie’s good for him, I think.” You said, shifting to look at Steve. “I’m glad he’s found someone.”
“I’m glad I found you,” Steve said, pulling you in for a kiss. “Thanks for being my Buttercup tonight and every night.”
You smiled. “I’m glad I found you too, Steve. Thanks for being my Westley, babysitter boy.”
Steve chuckled as you opened up your car door and got out. “I’ll see you later.” You blew him a kiss and headed for your front door, a faint mumble from Steve barely hitting your ears.
…
Turns out, a hot shower after a long night can also wake you up considerably. You were lucky enough to have a bathroom attached to your room; it made the transition of getting out and getting dressed easier.
Or so you thought.
“There’s a shortage of perfect breasts in this world,” Steve said, lying on top of your bed, his arms behind his head. “T’would be a pity to damage yours.”
You stood in the bathroom doorway, robe halfway on, your hair tied up. “Steve?”
“Guilty as charged.”
“What—how—why—HOW did you get into my room?”
“You keep your windows unlocked. I’ve been plotting a route up here for days, ever since you agreed to do Princess Bride costumes. I wanted to surprise you.”
You stared at him, open mouth, not paying attention to your robe as it slowly opened up more. He smiled at you wider, sitting up a little on your bed. “Too much? Too cheesy?”
You shook your head and grasped at your robe, pulling it tighter (causing Steve’s smile to fade a bit). “Steve, I watched as you and Dustin made pew-pew and clanking noises for five minutes. I don’t think it was too cheesy.”
He sat back, relieved.
“Besides,” you walked over to your bed and sat down on the other side. “What I like most about you is your cheesiness.”
Steve quickly turned his head towards you and scoffed. “I am not—”
“Steve. You’re cheesy. Charming. Gallant and almost stoic to a fault. Maybe not the most gracious with words or coordination…but that is why I love you.”
Steve looked at you, his mouth a straight line. “Ms. Henderson,” he began, sitting up once again. “I believe you’ve just said something there is no going back from.”
You blinked. “I did?”
He smirked and scootched closer to you. “You looooooove me.”
You felt your cheeks grow hot—not just because you were embarrassed, but because you hadn’t planned on telling him on accident. There were three options you could go with now. Option one: playfully hit him and deny it. Option two: kiss him to shut him up. Option three: disrobe and distract him completely.
You knew which option it had to be.
You faced him and gently reached up to cup his cheek, pulling him closer to you. “Steve Harrington, I have loved you since the first day you brought Dustin home with a smile on his face. I love your charm, and your determination, and how incredibly stupid you can be, risking your life for everyone in an attempt to always be a better version of yourself.” You kept eye contact with him, watching him as he watched you. “You may act like you don’t care, or that you’re too cool, or that you hate being the babysitter, but I know you Steve. And I love what I see.” You reached up to run your fingers to the back of his head, your eyes flicking between his and his lips. “I love you, Steve Harrington.”
This kiss was different than the ones you’ve had in the past. It was more passionate—more pure; it left all the others behind Steve would quote to you later on—and left you feeling light headed. Slowly, you found yourself crawling up on your knees. He grabbed at your waist and pulled you flush against him, one hand pawing at the small of your back and the other cradling the back of your head, reaching up to loosen your hair so it cascaded down and tickled your ears. You turned your head to deepen the kiss, your hands digging into his hair to keep a semblance of keeping upright. Ultimately this was useless as you found yourself melting into him, sighing unapologetically as he nipped at your bottom lip. He reached his hand up to cup your face and pulled apart for the briefest of seconds before he lightly kissed you once; twice; three times before resting his forehead on yours, his breathing faster in effort to catch his breath.
His eyes remain closed, but yours looked at him gently, your cheeks red and your mouth slightly agape.
“You know, Ms. Henderson,” he opened his eyes finally and flicked them up to match yours, a cheeky smile growing on his puffy lips. “I love you too.”
You leaned in to give him another kiss, soft and gentle, the smile on your face growing wider. “You know,” you said, breaking away from the kiss, much to Steve’s disappointment. “Since you went through all that trouble of recreating the scene where Westley comes to rescue Buttercup…”
Steve gently fixed your hair behind your ear, his eyes only leaving yours for a minute. You reached up to place your hand on top of his before placing it back down across his chest. You smirk. He had less than a second to register as you pushed him down on the bed, straddled him, and reached for the belt of your robe, loosening it. “Why not really give into the scene?”
Steve’s mouth closed shut as his eyes moved up and down on you, watching as you leaned forward and began to kiss him, starting with his forehead and working your way down to the two tiny little moles along his jawline.
“Gently,” he whispered, his hands on your hips.
“At a time like this, that’s all you can think of to say? Gently?” You tuck one hand behind his head and lift him up slightly, grabbing his mouth in yours.
“Gently,” he said again before you released him from your kiss, his head knocking against the headboard of your bed. “Ouch.”
You giggled. “That’s for Robin. Stop quoting the movie to her at work so much.”
Steve took a hand off of you and rubbed at the back of his head. “Fine,” he said, scooting himself down further so his head was at the bottom of the pillow. “I’d much rather hear you quote the movie to me anyway. It’s hot…”
You placed a finger over his mouth and smirked before leaning back down to kiss him again. “As you wish.”

- With their opponents already in the ring, Starboy Charlie and Alex Taylor made their way out to the commentary booth. But just like in any other field, a professional can do anything an amateur can and better, that's why they get paid to do it. So to remind all the fans of that, Taylor said he brought in two amateur wrestlers to face them as a warm-up for their match later tonight in Bloomsburg. Starboy and Taylor each put on amateur wrestler headgear before heading to the ring.
Starboy Charlie and Alex Taylor vs. PJ Hawx and "Amateur Wrestler" Reese Hayes Starboy Charlie and Alex Taylor defeated PJ Hawx and Reese Hayes with the banana split pin from Starboy on Hayes. (3:08)

SEGMENT FOUR (NINE MINUTES):
Kevin Blackwood and Alan Angels vs. Black Generation International (Bendito and Emperador Azteca) - Emperador Azteca leaned against the ring apron on the floor when Titus Alexander emerged from the crowd to throw him a chain. Emperador wrapped the chain around his fist and, when Alan Angels reached between the top and middle ropes to grab Azteca by the mask, punched Angels with the chain. Angels fell back into a school boy cradle from Bendito, but Kevin Blackwood broke it up with a doublestomp off the top rope and to the back on Bendito's head. Blackwood placed Angels atop Bendito and they picked up the win. Kevin Blackwood and Alan Angels defeated Black Generation International with a doublestomp from Blackwood on Bendito. (5:11)
- We return back LIVE to Daphne Oz at the Bloomsburg Fair as the helicopter door opens and out steps Shelton Benjamin. Benjamin explained that he's had some free time on his hands lately and he's been tuned in to Defy TV every Thursday for the Great Pro-Wrestling Adventure Hour. Shelton said he's really been impressed by folkstyle, and last week he heard Shaw Mason's comments about being open to any partner to help folkstyle and Leyla Hirsch against the Southern 6 and Starboy Charlie. Shelton said his first call was to Shaw Mason to see if the spot was still open, and it was. Benjamin said his next call was to his former place of business to request his immediate release. Benjamin excused himself to go greet the crowd that had gathered.
SEGMENT FIVE (NINE MINUTES)
Black Generation International (Titus Alexander and Flamita) vs. Puf and Kevin Bennett Black Generation International defeated Puf and Kevin Bennett with a top rope Michinoku Driver from Alexander on Bennett. (4:45)
- Alexander and Flamita dominated the match from the opening bell, but took their time picking their opponents apart with the obvious intent to punish and possibly injure them both. CORE officials were forced to hold Kevin Blackwood and Alan Angels back, preventing them from getting involved as the match was dragged out by Black Generation International. When Alexander finally decided to end the match, Titus and Flamita exited the ringside area as Blackwood and Angels charged to the ring.
- Kevin Blackwood got on the microphone and said that Titus Alexander has shown everyone his true colors these past few months in CORE. Blackwood said that Alexander might act tough, but after his recent losses they know who he really is, a coward and a crybaby. Blackwood said that Titus might have taken advantage of two of Blackwood's old friends today, but that he's got another old friend that is going to join him tonight at the Bloomsburg Fair to hand Titus a defeat he might never return from. Tonight at the Bloomsburg Fair grandstand it will be Titus Alexander, Flamita, and Yutani of Black Generation International against Kevin Blackwood, Alan Angels, and DANIEL GARCIA.

After an uneventful dinner in the Sallow home, the four young adults migrated out into the center of the hamlet with the rest of residents to partake in Christmas Eve festivities. Some of the older men played enchanted instruments to the tunes of upbeat folk songs, as children ran around playfully dancing to their song. Solomon who had opted to stand guard with some of the town’s men in case of another goblin attack, left them without the looming sense of awkwardness that had existed while they ate a few hours prior.
Sebastian had opted to change back out of his father’s jumper, as it was slowly getting colder, and he didn’t want to damper the mood with its presence. She still wore the same dress as before as they watched as Anne was playfully spinning with one of the young boys in their village. Ominis had laughed as the small boy, who had grown quite smitten with Anne as she remained behind in Feldcroft, politely asked her to dance with him. Shortly there after, Ominis himself was roped into showing the younger sister of the boy dancing with Anne how he was able to use his wand to move about despite his blindness, as the girl was also heavily vision impaired. Sebastian watched as his twin had to duck quite low to move her head under the small child’s arm as the boy attempted to spin her as he saw the adults of their hamlet do for the women. At the same time, Ominis was cautiously moving the small girl about in front of him with his wand pointed out in front of the both of them. It made him smile seeing his friend and his sister engaged so sweetly with smaller children who lived next door.
Without thought, he turned himself towards the girl next to him. She sat perched on one of the low stone walls surrounding the main circle of their village’s center. Sebastian found himself standing behind her, arms coming to rest on the sides of her, as she leaned back slightly onto his chest in her seated position. She turned her head to the left, noting how Ominis was entertaining the little girl by sharing how he navigated the world with a child who shared his condition.
“I never knew Ominis was so good with children” she said as she noted the way he helped lift the girl, who was nearing the end of her toddler years, and moved them both towards Anne and the young boy with the help of his wand. The little girl shrieked in laughter at how she, like Ominis, had a vague sense of the world around them with the help of the sentient wand.
“I do believe it may just be that child in particular” Sebastian sad with a chuckle before continuing “He usually finds kids off putting and overtly loud”.
“I guess I can understand where he is coming from… it is still sweet nonetheless.” She said, words trailing off in deep thought at the sight before them both. Anne and Ominis had rejoined with the young siblings, forming a small circle where they all were slowly spinning together.
Sebastian watched for a moment longer, before allowing his eyes to wander back to the girl. He couldn’t help but notice the way the moonlight cast lovely shadows on her face, or the way the firelight danced in her eyes. Hearing the melodic laughter of the children, yet his own eyes lost as they danced over her distracted form, he couldn’t stop his mind from wandering to a place they could both inhabit in the future. How he could home from work, crossing the threshold to greet her, before reaching down to observe whatever mischief some smaller version of them had created during his time away for the day.
“What are your thoughts on children?” She asked, breaking his train of thought before it could fully develop.
“In general or…?” He asked, aiming to figure out exactly what kind of answer she was desiring from him. He didn’t doubt for a second if she asked him, despite their age, he would give an honest answer. He simply wanted her to ask him without any reservations and on her own terms.
“Well I mean obviously in general, but also… having kids? Is that something you want some day?” She asked him, wavering for a moment before finding confidence to turn her body around to face him as she firmly planted her stare in his own.
“I like children. I enjoy the way their minds work, and how they are honest to a fault. I admit, I haven’t had much experience with them up close I am afraid. My parents only had Anne and I, as it was a traumatic delivery for my mother, so they decided one pair of rambunctious twins to be enough. Solomon has never even attempted to find a woman. We have no other family, so the extent of my experience has been back here during the summers with the few children in the hamlet.” He said, fingers playing with the strings of her corset unconsciously as his eyes wandered around the bustling hamlet to observe the youth spread about.
Sebastian remembered small moments where he had been asked to watch over the siblings dancing with his Twin over the past summer, and how while nerve wracking at times, he enjoyed getting the chance to entertain them. They never failed to make him laugh at their antics.
He looked back up into her pleading eyes, and he knew what she wanted to hear. “I definitely want children someday” he said confidently. Even before he had met her, he knew that at the very least he wanted to pass on his family’s namesake, as there was little chance Solomon would, and he was the only remaining Sallow who could. Although, with as much as he knew Ominis hated being a Gaunt, it wouldn’t surprise him if one day their friend took Anne’s name…
“You do?” She asked, seemingly shocked at how open he was on the topic, especially at his age. While the Twins were due for their 17th birthday shortly after Christmas, she was surprised he already had come to a conclusion on his future while still, in the eyes of the law, technically being considered a child himself. While in her muggle village he may be considered old enough to already have started that path in life, she had come to learn that in the Wizarding World, they were not quite as quick to marry off their sons and daughters…
“Of course” he said, smile beaming at her pleasant surprised expression. She briefly looked down at her lap before reaching forward to tug his jacket only slightly so he would come closer to her. He chuckled at her desire to pull him closer as he admitted he wanted children.
“Hey now, just because I desire children someday does not mean I want them now” he playfully retorted while wiggling is eyebrows at her action and he loved watching as she turned bright red at his teasing. She scoffed but didn’t push him away. She smoothed a hand over the trim of his lapel before straightening the simple “S” pin he adorned on the same side as his heart.
“What about you Missy? Do you see yourself having children?” He asked her, realizing she hadn’t commented on the matter. While her smile had told him that she most likely held the same ideas as him in the matter, he didn’t truly know.
She lifted her hand to cup Sebastian’s cheek as she carefully brushed a hand over the planes of his face. Her other hand migrated to his shoulder, fingers slowly tracing the soft hair at the back of his neck as his eyes slowly drifted shut at her soft contact. A small smile worked its way onto his face, as no matter how much she did it, he truly never got over how much he adored her gentle fingertips brushing along his skin and hair. However this was short lived, as she began speaking, his eyes snapped back open to watch her reply.
“I could see myself coming home to a little girl maybe… with a thousand freckles spilling across her cheeks and over the bridge of her nose” she said, softly tracing a path across the center of his face with her pointer finger before coming to frame his eyes as she continued “perhaps she would even have big doe eyes, full of the same mischief I see right here”. She softly traced the skin under his eyes as she gazed up at him. He felt a shudder run through him as she kept going.
“Or a young boy… with a big toothy grin” she said, fingers lightly brushing over his lips as he suddenly felt a weight drop in his stomach, but she didn’t stop there. The fingers in his hair continued as their movement went from unconscious to deliberate. “Maybe he’d have thick, unruly, brown hair that would need to be tied back while he played like his father…”
Sebastian couldn’t help but notice the way she seemed to remember what he had told her about himself as a child in the Undercroft that so long ago. The day he decided he would do anything to be able to show her his love. He loved how comfortable she felt confirming that he would in fact be the father of these idealistic children. Even more, he loved the thought of her desiring a possible daughter to have his dark eyes or a son having his thick Scottish hair.
He always had wondered what parts of his parents he inherited, as well as what one day he would pass on. While he wasn’t particularly fond of his skin’s blemishes from spending so much time in the sun, a small part of him was relieved to hear how much she seemed to adore the marks that covered his body.
If he focused hard enough, Sebastian could almost see the same image in his head. A little girl with similarly colored locks to her own, framing chubby cheeks filled with freckles. The shallow slope of his nose, but her soft smile paired with his dark eyes and her long eyelashes. He could almost cry thinking of how sweet such a child could look being perfectly comprised of both their features. He had always loved the name Estelle.
She paused for a moment, worried her words had frightened him, as he continued blinking rapidly with a far off look in his eye. He was shocked back to reality when her hand started slowly trailing off his face to return to her lap. Sebastian pushed it back up before she got very far, his fingers caressing her own as he took in a deep breath to steady himself.
“While I like your train of thought…” he started, slightly startled by how the lump in his throat made itself known as he began to speak, but he powered through as he stared in her eyes.
“I think that’s entirely too much of myself in children I one day hope, will take after their mother’s beauty”
“Yo-you want your children to…” she couldn’t find the words as she had a thousand thoughts running through her brain at his admission that one day, he wanted to share a home and children with her.
“To look as lovely as you, yes.” He said, noting the way she had a small tear leak out without realizing. Sebastian simply brushed it off her cheek without commenting on it. He understood how such words might draw such a reaction. He had felt such an odd stirring in himself at the conversation. All the sorrow he’d known for losing his parents mixed with the joy he felt knowing he was building something with this lovely girl.
“I disagree… I think their father to be quite handsome” she said, loving the way his dimples appeared at her comment.
“Then its settled. One day we will make beautiful children and people can argue which one of us contributed more to their good looks.” He responded making her laugh so hard she clutched his shoulder as he joined in her laughter.
“We should probably join in the festivities” she said, looking around to see if anyone was lingering too close to hear their conversation. He leaned in, as if he was going to tell her a secret.
“I would much rather stay here and talk about making babies with you…” he purred in her ear and she pushed him away slightly.
“Sebastian!” She exclaimed, noting the way her reaction only spurred him on further as he dipped his head back in laughter.
“I didn’t know you were such a prude” he said, drawing her to stand from her seated position on the wall. Sebastian carefully escorted her to where the hamlet were still dancing in the late hours of the evening in the grass. As he pulled her close, one hand resting on her waist, and the other holding her hand, he noticed the slight pout she had on her face.
“I am not a prude…” she mumbled as she allowed him to slowly start moving about in small circles while holding her.
“Could have fooled me” he responded, noticing the way her eyes quickly darted around to see if anyone around them was watching before she leaned closer, resting her head on his shoulder. She sighed before she tipped her chin towards his ear: “talking about your desire for future children, and discussing the act of making them are two very different conversations” she purred.
Sebastian’s hand on her waist tightened, holding her closer to his body. In fact, he was slowly beginning to feel the beat of her heart through the fabric of his undershirt, his own sweater, and jacket. Not to mention the layers she was wearing… He felt the need to pull her close despite the fact he was warming up along every inch of his body. He barely recognized that a very light snow was beginning to fall because how hot he suddenly found himself. The only reason he noticed was seeing the way small flakes began to get caught in her hair, and he imagined he looked similar.
“Could you see yourself entertaining…” he trailed off as he noticed Anne and Ominis standing a few feet away. Ominis was holding her hand as Anne was beaming at himself and the girl. He looked back down at the girl in his arms, “can we pick this conversation back up later?” he asked her. She nodded as they continued their simple dancing to the slow song of the band. Every so often Sebastian would lift her arm, twisting her gracefully, before returning her to their pose. He was by no means a wonderful dancer, but he seemed to understand a simple box step, and that’s all she needed. It however, warm her heart to be dancing again after so long. It wasn’t long however before the song came to an end.
Throughout the evening the pair had heard the almost continuous sound of instrumental music playing, so the sudden silence that permeated the air was mildly jarring. As she lifted her head to see if the band was retiring for the evening, she was surprised to meet Anne’s mischievous expression.
Ominis stood near the band, conversing with some of the men as Anne attempted to drag the girl from Sebastian’s arms. He let out a sigh as he tightened his arm around her a little confused why his twin was attempting to get the girls attention so intently.
“Anne is something wrong?” She asked, slightly concerned as to why the girl was attempting to remove her with the degree of effort she was aiming to use. Anne shook her head, finally successful in unraveling the couple.
Before Sebastian could question what was happening, Anne whisked her away and Ominis quickly came to drag Sebastian off in the opposite direction without a word. “Ominis, what the hell?” He asked annoyed as his friend simply shook his head no, a small smile stretched across his lips. Whatever Anne was planning must not be too terrible if Ominis was going along with it.
Sebastian found himself suddenly off to the side of the area everyone had been dancing, with the two young siblings from next door, as Ominis left them to join some of the adults of Feldcroft. Sebastian was extremely confused what they were doing, as many of them started talking amongst themselves and using their wands to start conjuring a small wooden platform on the ground. A proper dance space replaced the uneven ground. But why now?
It wasn’t long before he found an answer to all his questions in the form of Bernard Ndiaye coming forward. The members of the hamlet all stood to the side of the platform, allowing the shopkeeper to cross the small stage, to make an announcement.
“It appears that we had a dancer in our midst and didn’t even know it. After speaking with young Anne Sallow, this year’s newest addition has agreed to showcase a muggle tradition I hear is very popular this time of year.” Ndiaye spoke briefly before quickly standing to the side.
Sebastian recognized the sounds of Tchaikovsky, as his mother had adored the composers work. Every year around this time they would all make their way into the muggle portions of London just to watch the ballet for his mothers sake. Sebastian had almost forgotten about it, but Anne seemed to have remembered. It had been years since they had be able to watch a performance.
Looking around he was surprised to find Anne back at his side as she carefully wrapped her slender arm around his own, lightly squeezing his bicep. Sebastian looked to see if she had returned with his twin but was disappointed seeing she returned alone. Before he could question Anne as to where his love had wandered off to he immediately felt his knees almost give out.
In the corner of the small wooden platform there she stood. She must have used some sort of transfiguration charm to change her long green dress, as she now was a vision in soft lavender. Her delicate arms, exposed to the cool air, as only thin straps held up the bodice around her breasts and abdomen. At her waist soft lace and tule flared, just barely covering her most intimate areas. Sebastian couldn’t stop his wandering eyes from noticing how the thin tights she wore clung to her soft but muscular legs, especially given how much of them were displayed before him. Atop her head rested a small diadem, shining in the moonlight.
She had pulled her hair back into a small bun, leaving her nape exposed. Sebastian was struck so suddenly by how his mind l seemingly split into both thoughts of how downright ethereal she looked and how incredibly sexy she was. He was both smitten and feeling himself with growing arousals at how delicate yet strong she looked.
As the band softly played transitional music, she lifted her gaze to Anne, giving her a shy smile, before taking a deep breath. She refused to let her gaze wander to Sebastian, for fear she may loose her nerves if she saw his eyes on her. She nodded to the few men with instruments that they could begin and she closed her eyes, attempting to remember the steps she had all but memorized from her years partaking in the muggle study of ballet.
The opening notes of dance of the sugar plum fairy started and she was off. The playful melody of the Russian composer, although missing some of the instruments a full orchestra would have, filled the air. Almost as if riding a horse, the steps immediately came flooding back to her memory as she gracefully moved about the small stage on her toes, arms extended.
She tried her best to not think of how much the movements were causing her abdomen to ache with pain or her lugs burn. After mentioning to Anne in Hogsmeade that she had studied ballet for years, the girl had all but pleaded on her knees to see at least some part of The Nutcracker, as it was their mothers favorite. She conceded knowing it would lift the girls spirits, however she had not known the full extent to which she had been roped into until the girl had escorted her away from Sebastian.
Sebastian watched her earnestly as she moved about the space with the same grace she used when she dueled. He had been right in his assumption she did in fact know how to dance, as here she stood, body moving with such a lovely flow it replicated that of a stream. Her movements both soft and delicate, yet poised and full of strength. The way the stars and the falling snow framed her feminine form. The way the moonlight and firelight made the diadem and crystals on her bodice sparkle replicated that of a princess. Her soft smile at the confidence in her movements. It was the most beautiful sight he had ever laid eyes on.
He hadn’t even realized he was crying until he felt a small handkerchief being thrust into his hands. He didn’t even look down to see that Ominis’s outstretched hand had been holding his own pocket square, as he refused to tear his eyes away from her for even a second. The world could come crashing down around them and he still would not be able to look away from the delicate creature in front of him. He half wondered if she was part nymph or siren, as the way she moved her body enticed him in ways he ought not know to be possible.
It wasn’t long before the band began to quicken their pace, with her rapidly increasing her tempo as well. She began moving about in such fast twirls, constantly upon her toes, matching the musicality. She was like a flurry of snow, twisting her body with such speed and skill. As fast as the dance had started, they quickly drew their instruments to the close, as she stopped, drawing her arms into an outstretched pose to conclude the dance.
As the people of Feldcroft began to cheer for her, clapping loudly, she began searching the crowds for Sebastian. With all the townspeople and snow picking up its pace, it was difficult to see where he had gotten off to. As she drew herself into a soft bow she saw a single white rose land in front of her. She quickly drew it into her hand before slowly making her way off the wood floor.
She barely heard Bernard speaking to the hamlet as she made her way to the left side of the stage. The people around her parted, allowing a direct path towards Sebastian. As she got closer she saw the soft glistening of tears in his eyes and on his face.
Sebastian felt like he was watching an angel make its way from heaven, down to him as she took soft steps towards him. He was thankful his neighbors had respected them enough to separate, making her journey easier. He hadn’t even attempted to brush the tears from his eyes, proudly wearing them as she deserved to know what a lovely reaction her talent had brought out in him.
When she had finished, he had found himself transforming the handkerchief in his hands into a single rose, tossing it at her feet the same way that he’d seen muggles do in London. When he found her situated directly in front of him, beaming up into his eyes, he didn’t care who was around them. The young siblings next door, his own sister, the townspeople, hell even Solomon: they were all irrelevant to this beautiful angel. His beautiful angel.
She softly brushed the tears off his face as he smiled, a few more continuing to slip out. The girl laughed softly, not in jest, but in elation at how much love was pouring from his eyes.
Sebastian brought his hand up, to firmly hold hers against his face as he ground himself in the moment. A selfish part of him never wanted this wonderful day to end.
It wasn’t long before the chilling Scottish air made itself known again, as she shivered against him, given how much of her body was exposed. He quickly unwrapped her arms, sliding off his jacket, before gently laying it around her shoulders.
“You must be freezing, sorry I didn’t think of that” he whispered out. The town around them had resumed dancing, wandering off to let the young adults converse as they pleased.
She brushed off his comment, but pulled the jacket tighter around her body. She looked back up at him, eyes still shining with amazement. He took the rose that had been held in her hand, placing it behind her ear. His fingers trailed down her cheek and jaw before his hand plant itself against the side of her neck. Sebastian softly pulled her into his tall frame, as his other hand came to rest on her bent elbow. They continued to softly sway as he held her head close to his chest, and she let her arms stay wrapped around his waist.
“I don’t think I have ever been happier in my entire life” he softly hummed out. She tightened her grip on his lower back, softly inhaling his woody scent.
“Me either” she replied, unable to fill her senses with enough of Sebastian Sallow as they softly turned in the moonlight. She wanted more. She didn’t care that her legs were freezing or ballet slippers were terrible shoes to walk in. She simply wanted to bottle up this feeling and keep it close to her heart forever.
As another song started up they heard a throat being cleared not far from them. She lifted her head from its place over his heart as Sebastian noticed Solomon standing near by, his expression unreadable.
“It is getting late. I think it is time you all retire.” He spoke firmly, but didn’t comment on how they were dancing nor her costume.
Sebastian only nodded, before spinning her around to head back towards their tent. Anne and Ominis were already back inside when they arrived. Immediately upon entering Anne jumped the girl.
“Oh Merlin! That was so amazing! Thank you so much, it truly meant so much to be able to experience one of our old traditions. You are so talented.” Anne blabbered on as she continued a string of “you’re welcome” and “thank you” in response to all she kept saying.
Sebastian leaned against the support beam for the main room watching as the girl demonstrated some of the poses for Anne. She shrugged his jacket off inside the tents warmth, thanks to Ominis having started the fire. Once again he found himself staring at the lovely lines her legs were creating as she lifted her weight onto one foot, and moved her other leg to the height of her waist with ease. When she lifted her arms, the skirt also raised, giving him a very open view of her tight and bloomer clad rear. What he would give to always have her in such attire.
She turned around after demonstrating to Anne some of the basics she had come to know, and when she did she noted the down-right sinful look in Sebastian’s eyes. She moved to grab his coat off the cushions from when she had set it down, while Anne sat next to Ominis by the fire. When she approached him, she noticed a small plant extending down from the support beam, to rest just over his head. Mistletoe.
Sebastian looked up at the small plant he was conjuring with the wand at his side. He knew the tradition would make her laugh, and when she caught sight of it she grew slightly pink knowing what he wanted from her.
The boy drew her close, pulling her under the small white bulbs with him. The devilish grin upon his face making her grow even warmer. He pulled the jacket from her hands, letting it fall to the floor with no regard for how it crumpled, before wrapping his other arm around her waist.
“Your opinions on mistletoe m’lady?” He asked, staring intently into her eyes.
“I suppose it is a fun tradition, although if you wanted a kiss, you need not ask”
Sebastian needed no further encouragement, pulling her waist directly into contact with his. Her eyes grew wide at realizing his manhood was pressing into her clothed center, but as his lips made contact with hers, they fluttered shut. His other hand planted on the small of her back, and both of hers finding place on his shoulders. He playfully lowered her weight, as he dipped her forward while continued kissing her. She sighed into his mouth as when he lowered them both, his weight pressed into her most sensitive area even more than it had when he pulled her against his body.
Sebastian returned her to her feet reluctantly, pulling his mouth from hers to give a small kiss to her cheek before nuzzling his nose to the side of her face.
“Have I succeeded in sweeping you off your feet darling?” He teased and she shivered as his long eyelashes tickled her cheek. She nodded, holding him close, breathing in his scent.
“You two are appalling.” Anne said while standing, breaking up their moment as she reaching a hand out for Ominis. The pair migrated towards the boys side of the tent together.
“Where do you two think you’re going?” Sebastian asked, playfully taunting his sister.
“To sleep” she said, continuing to pull the blushing blond with her.
“Mhm… and I am the appalling one” he responded sarcastically as she rolled her eyes, sliding into the privacy of the other room. Ominis gave a shy wave before following her.
“You know if it were anyone other than Ominis I’d ring their neck” he playfully chuckled watching his best friends shy allowance of his twins rule breaking.
She scoffed “Please, as if you are much better in that arena Mr. Sallow” as she poked a finger into his chest playfully.
Sebastian stiffened at her words, grabbing her hand as he pulled her backwards into the privacy of the other room. As soon as the curtain gave way he cast a simple silencing charm, throwing his wand to the side.
He lowered his mouth to her ear, lightly nipping it. “Say that again” he all but growled against her skin.
“Say what again?” She asked playfully as his hands found their way under the many layers of tule, fingers splayed across her lower cheeks.
“You know what” he said, feeling his self control starting to waiver as the events of the last few days were building. Their stolen kisses, almost watching her die, sharing a sensual bath, waking up next to her, her body on display during the dance and their conversations on a future. It all felt too much, as if he’d wake up and it all had been a dream. Sebastian needed the chance to prove he was worthy of their lofty expectations for the future, that he was worthy of her love and adoration. That he could be the man she deserved. Someone who could take care of her, provide for her, protect her and give her the life she deserved.
“Only if you answer me this” she said, trailing off as he caressed her skin through the tights. He mumbled out what she assumed was “sure” against her neck as he continued to kiss and suck lightly on the delicate skin exposed but her bun.
They were playing with fire and she knew it. She just hoped that when it was all said and done neither of them wound up burned.
“Would you like to resume our conversation from earlier now that we are alone?” She tried to keep her voice as sultry as possible but finding it difficult with the wonderful way he mapped out the skin of her neck and shoulders with his lips while his fingers traced her lower regions.
“While I would love to have that conversation, I don’t particularly feel like talking right now, do you…” he huskily whispered into her neck making her shudder.
She shook her head at his words as he carefully walked the both of them backwards towards the bed. When her legs made contact with the edge of the mattress, he gently helped her sit at the edge before lowering himself to the floor in front of her.
She raised a tentative eyebrow at him as he sat on his knees in front of her. In his mind, she looked downright ethereal, still in the beaded costume, head covered in jewels.
Sebastian carefully brought his chin to rest just above her knee, looking up at her through his eyelashes as she curled a hand into his hair.
Lowering his hands, he slowly began to unravel her ballet slippers off each foot, carefully tracing his finger up her leg as he did so. She felt a deep warmth spread about her at his soft traces, as the tights were not thick.
He placed soft kisses on the skin of her thigh as he whispered against her skin. “My Angel… goddess divine…” she heard against her legs as she continued to pour his love into her.
Sebastian looked up into her eyes again as he tried to find an ounce of his slipping self control. Her fingers still wound in his tresses and her soft gaze upon him as he laid more gentle kisses upon her skin. “Aphrodite herself” he said with a groan.
Let me worship you.
She was caught off guard at his words but he continued to plead with her. Sebastian shook her hand from his hair, rising as much as he could while still on his knees for her. He held her hand close to his heart, eyes imploring hers as his body softly shook in anticipation. Sebastian hoped she could feel the way his heart beat against her fingers. The way it beat for her.
Let me show you all the praise you deserve, my goddess. Please I beg you.
She couldn’t help but feel herself giving in, as seeing him beg on his knees for her was something she never thought possible. What happened to the proud Slytherin boy she met her first day Hogwarts who taunted her in class? He had wound his way into her very soul, loosing the arrogance that plagued him, now ready to be whatever she needed, as she graciously returned the same sentiments. She softly nodded, bringing his face up as she tipped his chin forward to meet his lips in a soft kiss.
Every moment they spent alone plagued with teasing and playful comments built into a strong sense of longing, only being held back by external rules of propriety. As he moved his mouth against hers that first time, cracks began to form. Now in the privacy on Christmas Eve, That’s when the damn finally broke.
Sebastian carefully pulled himself from the floor, helping her rise gently to her feet as he softly turned her around. His fingers lightly brushed against her corsets strings while his lips continued to softly press kisses and sweet words of praise along her shoulders.
My beautiful angel…
Most beautiful part of this world…
His movements were careful as he slowly unraveled the soft lace from her skin. As it became loose he slowly allowed the material to fall to the floor. She remained unclothed from the waist up, only bloomers and tights covering her lower half.
She turned to face him in the dim light, seeing the adoration in his chocolate eyes as she slowly slid her hands under his sweater, pulling it up his torso. Sebastian allowed her to carefully slip it off his body before she did the same for his undershirt. When his chest finally was exposed again she couldn’t help but lightly whimper at seeing his soft flesh, and he quickly pulled her back into his towering frame.
His left hand held the juncture between her jaw and neck, fingers softly tracing the skin he found there. Sebastian carefully lifted her face up to his own as her trembling fingers wound there way into his hair once again. With her pressed into him, he could feel her hardened nipples against the planes of chest, loving the way their skin to skin contact created a fire in his stomach.
His other hand slipped lower, find purchase along her waistband, toying with it as he kissed her gently. As he did so, her fingers continued weaving in and out of his hair, and it wasn’t long before he ran a testing swipe along her bottom lip with his tongue. Sebastian couldn’t help but groan when she opened for him, letting their kisses to deepen as their tongues carefully danced together. It wasn’t long before she was pulling away, feeling breathless at their actions.
Taking the opportunity of their pause in kisses, he gripped the band of her remaining clothing, and slowly lowered himself to the floor as he slid the material from her body, undergarments coming with it. He did so carefully, afraid she would snap to her senses and stop him. Sebastian was surprised when her bloomers touched the floor, and he found himself once again on his knees, this time directly in front of her naked form. His found himself carefully helping her step out of the clothes, tossing them into the unknown as he caressed her calf as he once again lifted his gaze.
When the cool air exposed her womanhood she quickly sought to cover herself not just from the cold but his gaze, as his eyes were only a few inches away from her most sensitive area.
She should have ran, should have stopped his advances, but truly there was no reservation within her that he did not already own every fiber of her being. He had her from the moment she met his mischievous gaze, beside the fireplace that day seemingly so long ago. They were destined to remain with one another, a very conviction they both seemed to understand. These physical acts were merely a way at demonstrating their devotion to one another. Damn the rules, they both broke every rules around them always. What’s one more in the name of such a love?
He carefully laid his cheek along her stomach, her hands preventing him from closing the gap between his face and her womanhood. As he gazed up at her, eyes darker than she thought imaginable, she couldn’t pinpoint exactly what he planned to do. He seemed to be allowing her to guide him to whatever boundary she desired. And while she was enticed seeing him still at her feet in such a manor, she was taking her time to become comfortable giving herself to him.
Being so close to her heat, Sebastian could smell her arousal, and it was slowly feeding his own. From the moment he’d spoken with her that evening along the wall, about a future together, he had maintained a slight strain in his briefs. When she had danced before him, that feeling grew more intense. Now having her looking down upon her, unclothed, still wearing that semi-ridiculous crown he felt the intensity of his own erection threatening to burst out. He wanted to see her, feel her, and even though it was vulgar he wanted to taste her.
Sebastian allowed her to take her time. He simply laid his head against her, continuing to breathe her in as she grew comfortable with the image of him half nude on his knees in front of her. His fingers wound around to her backside, slowly tracing patterns on her soft curves. If she was paying attention she would have realized those patterns weren’t aimless, as he traced the word “mine” into the skin of her ass.
Eventually she unwound one hand from guarding her sacredness. She carefully brought her fingers into his hair, hoping to calm the storm raging inside. He groaned against her, as her nails scraped along his scalp. Sebastian continued looking into her eyes, and without even having to say the words he felt their soft exchange through their expressions.
“Please allow me to make you feel good” his eyes plead
“I trust you” hers responded as she let go, allowing him to finally see her up close.
He nearly lost his composure seeing such forbidden fruit right before his eyes. Ever so carefully he moved a hand to lightly trace the skin of her inner thigh. Her breath caught in her throat as he continued the slow torture of quiet gasps and soft touches.
Dragging his gaze back up to her, he carefully whispered out, “so beautiful” with a choked sob before he placed his lips on her.
Her hips bucked involuntarily at the feeling of his warm mouth against her lower curls. Slowly sliding her legs apart, he shifted between them to lick a testing stripe along her slit. As he did so, her slick arousal coated his tongue and he found himself moaning into her womanhood at the taste.
While he initially was gentle, after one small sip, he dived into her, lapping as if he was a man wandering the desert. She felt herself slowly trembling at the ministrations of his tongue on her sex, legs going weak. If his strong arms weren’t holding her upright she surely would’ve fallen over.
He continued to use his mouth on her in any way possible. He licked along her entrance and tasted every drop she provided for him. When his tongue finally found her pearl he brought his lips around it, lightly sucking on her clitorus as she cried out, hands tightening into his hair, pulling his face closer to her heat.
At her involuntary reaction he groaned around her, the vibrations becoming too much for her to bear. She looked down at him one last time before falling over an edge she didn’t even know she was standing upon. As she did so, her legs buckled and he did his best to keep her upright as his tongue continued to prod her entrance through her orgasm. Her unintentional aggression towards him , paired with the sounds she made, was enough to send him barreling after her. His cock twitched inside his trousers as he coated his underwear with his own seed. When she finally came down he softly lowered her onto the bed, dropping his head to her lap as he pulled back.
When she stopped seeing the stars she looked down at him. With red cheeks and her arousal coating his mouth and chin he looked absolutely divine. He smiled at her, carefully dragging a finger around to collect her own wetness from her now swollen opening before placing it in his mouth. Licking the remains from his lips, he sighed.
“You taste heavenly” he told her as she carefully brushed a weary hand through his curls.
She blushed at his words, feeling the need to cover herself, but she restrained realizing if he was willing to do such an act there’s no reason to cover now.
“I may require guidance to return the favor” she said shyly, gesturing in the darkness towards him. Sebastian laughed against her skin enjoying the way her fingers lovingly toyed with his hair. Of all the ways he had felt her deft fingers in his locks, this moment was now his favorite.
“That won’t be necessary love” he said with a chuckle, turning his face to kiss her other wrist.
“Of course it is… I understand that there’s a give and a take to these matters…” she tried to explain but he shook his head, before slowly standing.
Ever so carefully he lifted her wrist to place a delicate hand over the wet spot on his trousers. Her face went from confusion to recognition as she felt his cum through the material. Oh.
“But… how..?” She asked, realizing she hadn’t even touched him directly. Sebastian shrugged before he leaned in closer to her.
“I really enjoyed making you feel good I suppose” he spoke as he looked into her eyes. For a brief second he swore he could see hearts in them as she sighed.
Carefully she lifted a hand to cup his cheek before she responded “you beautiful, selfless, man”
He let out a soft chuckle at her kind words, his nose carefully caressing her own lovingly as he nuzzled her soft skin. Sebastian gave her a gentle peck before pulling the both of them down to lay down on the bed. She found herself smiling at the unique lingering taste of her on his lips as he kissed her slowly.
After a few moments basking in the afterglow together, he rose to his elbow to gaze down at her. He carefully brushed a hand over the few strands of hair escaping her slowly slipping bun before sliding off the bed. He knew if he was to sleep in the same bed as her, he should have the decency to change his briefs since sleeping in the nude may be too much of a line to cross now.
Carefully he slipped out of their half of the tent, making his way over to where his belongings were on the other side. As he approached the room he knew contained his sister and his oldest friend he worried about barging in unannounced, but also felt awkward about raising his voice in case they were asleep.
When he found himself directly in front of the flap he was met with the relieving sound of their hushed whispers. Unable to prevent himself from ease dropping he listened to their quiet voices for a moment.
“I can’t believe he transformed my good pocket square into a flower” Ominis chuckled softly and Sebastian remembered that he had in fact ruined his friends possession.
“I will make sure he replaces it, I promise” he heard his sister respond with a sigh.
There was a beat of silence and Sebastian found himself almost taking that as a good opportunity to announce himself but he stopped at Ominis’s voice.
“Was Sebastian really weeping during the ballet?” He asked, no malice in his tone, merely curiousity.
“I wouldn’t call it weeping… more like tears of joy perhaps… like being moved to such extremes in the face of something beautiful. Like how a man may cry at the birth of his child.” Anne explained, and Sebastian found himself thankful his sister attempted to explain what she observed in a way that would exonerate him of being weak.
“That is surprising. I never imagined Sebastian of all people to feel such adoration for another… not that I see him as incapable of those feelings, its just…” Ominis trailed off unsure how to explain his thoughts on the matter, worried he would say something to upset Anne on the status of her Twin’s love affair.
“I think I understand what you mean… the intensity to which it is apparent they feel for each other is shocking I suppose. It reminds me of our parents in a way” Anne replied taking his hand into her own, fingers carefully tracing the callouses on his palm from constantly holding his wand to guide him.
Sebastian felt himself surprised knowing his twin saw the same love his parents held for each other in his own feelings towards the new 5th year. It made him feel as if they’d be proud of him.
“Do you think they will… move forward with things in the near future?” Ominis asked cautiously.
“Perhaps” Anne replied, pondering what Ominis was asking. They had both heard his confession the day outside with Solomon, and had witness their share of moments where even the blind boy could practically see the love rolling off the pair.
“I selfish part of me hopes they do” Anne spoke softly into her lap as Ominis raised a questioning brow at her, confused why she wanted her brother to move forward with such adult acts like engagements and marriage.
Sebastian also found himself leaning closer, curious. Anne felt her eyes blur a bit as she carefully swallowed a small lump in her throat before continuing.
“I don’t know how much time I have left… I want to…” she stopped for a moment to collect herself before she kept going. “I need to know Sebs is going to be happy. That he will have someone there for him when I am gone.”
“Don’t say that Annabel-“ Ominis found himself using her full name, not liking her train of thought. He didn’t like acknowledging her curse, same as the rest of their party, but knowing he may only have limited time with her was a painful reminder.
“I believe in their ability. I know if anyone can find a cure it is the two of them. But if they cannot… I just want the chance to see them both devote their lives to one another.” Anne said in a hushed tone. Sebastian felt a weight in his heart, having not realized that his sisters condition could lead to a place in which a vacancy existed during his important life moments.
Sebastian couldn’t stop himself from pushing back the flap of the tent, eyes glassed with tears as he startled the pair. Anne sat up, wand ready as she recognized her twin’s face in the darkness.
Sebastian rushed forward, forgetting the reason he was in there to begin with, forgetting the love of his life was waiting for him. Ignoring Ominis sitting to the right of them. As he brought Anne into his chest he heard her soft cries as she wound her arms around them. They had tried their best to ignore the direness of her illness for so long, to acknowledge it now felt frightening.
When she quickly recovered he found himself softly whispering into her hair “I promise you will be there to see that.” At his words she looked up at him, slightly grimly. For a moment she thought he was referring to his never ending search to find a cure.
“Sebs… I am not sure there is a cur-“ she began but he cut her off.
“I am not talking about finding a cure Anne.” He spoke defiantly.
Anne realized that he was confirming he would make sure to wed if she became worse off.
“You don’t have to… I don’t expect you to rush into a commitment like that on my behalf.” She worried that she may push the pair together faster at her declining health.
“Anne… I would marry her tomorrow if I could figure out the logistics. But I would do so in a heartbeat to make sure you can be there.” He said and she found herself nodding. Sebastian let his sister go, navigating towards his bag he brought back from school.
He was worried that she would begin to worry at his absence, and didn’t want his sister realizing there was still a mess in his trousers…
“It’s Christmas. Let’s just try to focus on being together, and we can figure out the rest tomorrow, a’right?” He asked, collecting some clothes, before lingering by the entrance.
Anne nodded, returning to Ominis’s side. Sebastian watched as his friend cautiously lifted a hand to place it on his sisters. He smiled, realizing they too were operating on possible limited time.
“Take care of her Ominis.” He said, giving his friend the permission the Gaunt boy had been struggling to ask for since he grew attached to the girl.
Sebastian didn’t need to hear the boys reply, so he merely stepped back and snuffed out the fire in the main room.
When he returned, he found his love laying on her side, curled up along the foot of the bed. Shrugging his pants and briefs off he carefully used a wet cloth to wash himself before sliding on fresh underclothes. Bringing the same cloth, he carefully turned her over enough to help wash away the mess on her womanhood.
As he did so, she carefully cracked an eye open. She slid her legs open more as he continued to clean her to the best of his ability before dropping the cloth to the floor. She sleepily leaned up as he undid the pins holding the diadem to her head, carefully placing it on the floor, before helping her to let down her hair.
As it tumbled free, covering her shoulders and breasts he sighed. He was always surprised how she continued to look more and more beautiful in his eyes.
Sebastian helped lift her sleepy arms up enough to work the sleep shirt he brought onto her form. He figured that she’d be comfortable in his clothes, as his size would turn a simple shirt into a dress on her small body. As he slid it over her, she smiled, feeling enveloped in his earthy smell.
Ever so carefully he helped her slide under the covers, so she would easily be able to slip back into her slumber. Joining her, he brought an arm up to pull her against his body. When she snuggled backwards into him he smiled, thinking about his conversation with Anne. That night he found sleep difficult as he pondered the logistics of addressing the topic.
As he finally drifted off to sleep, he decided his best course of action to be a lengthy conversation with Solomon, and for once he wasn’t concerned about the outcome…
To be continued…

CHAPTER 4: You Now Smell Fishy
chitters:
Wild: this chapter has been the most edited and rewritten one so far. i still might go back and change some parts but we’ll get to that later. i added the last part after Nya said this made him want some eel and octopus.
Nya: i’m craving sushi now 🗿
TW: blood, but only from Floyd being the menace he is
It turned out your uncle was very happy that you had taken in the wild and stray centaurs. He had applauded your kindness, giving permission to bring back as many as you desired. He would pay for all expenses of course, as he was so gracious. In return for his kindness, he made you responsible for all the pets you brought in. You didn’t plan on taking in anymore you were fine with what you had. However sir oh so gracious fancy pants had other plans.
About half a year after Malleus and Sebek joined the growing family your uncle showed up out of the blue with three merfolk for you to care for. At the time you had been out buying groceries, so you had no idea what you were coming home to.
“Hello my beloved nepiece!” Crowley greeted you as you came into the living room. He had just finished setting up the tank and was introducing himself to your current pets. After a quick explanation he left, saying he had business to attend to. He left a letter explaining how to properly care for your merfolk.
When you walked down the stairs to see what your new pets looked like, you found that your basement was now over three acres large (according to the letter) and filled with ocean plant life. You stared bug eyed at the sight before you, how the hell did he get this done in less than an hour.
You were so preoccupied with your thoughts you failed to notice a pair of curious eels swimming over to get a closer look at you. A fin-like hand hitting the glass jolted you out of your thoughts.
The two eelmer stared at you with big eyes filled with curiosity. From how closely they resembled each other you assumed they were related. They appeared to be about a foot long each but were still tiny. Your thumb was bigger than their head.
They followed you as you began circling the tank, curious about what you would do. At some point one of them got bored and swam away. The one that stayed kept his eyes on you, continuing to follow you on your little walk. The way his eyes studied you gave you chills. It was like he was observing you for your weak points. Creepy.
Another knock on the tank caught your attention. The little mer beckoned you forward, an innocent smile on his face. You inch closer, unsure of what he would do. He points up, and you turn your face upwards just in time to see the other mer jumping out of the tank. His body collides with your face with a wet splat. You stumble backwards and fall on your butt with a yelp. Pulling him off, you hold him by his waist. He’s laughing at you, and in the background you can see his brother also laughing.
Great, a pair of troublemakers. Just what you needed.
~~~~~~
“I was told there were three of you, where’s the third?” Jade and Floyd were their names. The twins were currently flopped over your thighs while your legs were lazily kicking in the water.
“Tako-chan? He’s shy, been hiding ever since his pot was set down.” Floyd answered, curiously fumbling with the zipper of your jacket. “He’s weary of humans,” Jade spoke up, “can’t blame him though. They were the ones who snatched us from our home.” you frown, was this how all merfolk were acquired? That’s messed up bro.
“If you wanna meet Tako-chan you’ll have to go for a swim~” Floyd chirped, tugging at your shirt, “The water’s enchanted so you can breathe without having to drink a potion. Your uncle mentioned someone needed to renew the magic sometimes, why can’t you do it yourself Shrimpy? Are you that bad at magic?~” what a little shit.
“Where’s the pot?” you ask using a finger on his forehead to gently push him off. He let out a hiss of protest, trying to cling to you by digging his claws into your pants. Jade took notice of the slight change of your mood, and let out a trill. Floyd pouted at his brother, letting go after a bit of back and forth.
Taking off your jacket, you toss it to the ground. Sliding into the water you shiver. Holy shit was it cold. You probably should have expected this to be honest though. Regretting leaving you jacket behind, you follow the twins.
~~~~~~
The proclaimed octo pot was more of a cauldron rather than a pot. Squatting down, you peek inside. Two beady gray eyes stare back at you for a moment before a cloud of black ink comes shooting out at you. Thankfully you were far away enough to where it wouldn’t hit you. You make a mental note about the ink spitting, best you don’t wear any light or nice clothing when around him.
Floyd swims into the pot as soon as the cloud clears, chittering at his housemate as he tries to pull him out. Soon distressed squeaking can be heard from inside the pot, getting progressively louder. Jade has settled himself on the top of the pot, peering in with a grin.
A particular loud squeak was suddenly heard. Floyd was tossed out of the pot by a chunky tentacle. A nasty looking bite was on it and bleeding. You grab Floyd by his torso to stop him from going back in.
Bad!” you lightly smack him on the head, “do not bite him!” Floyd lets out an angry hiss, biting your finger and thrashing in your grip. You grit your teeth, bringing him up to your face. “Do not cause any unnecessary trouble, I was already looking after six pets before the three of you arrived. If you can’t behave I will rehome you!” Floyd growls, sinking his teeth further into your flesh. Jade quickly swims up next to his twin, grabbing him by the shoulders to pull him off. He’s letting out distressed chittering the whole time, eyes blown wide with fear. Floyd eventually lets go with a growl, still glaring at you. He speeds off as soon as you release him.
Jade grabs your hand. His eyes are shiny as he pleads, “please don’t be mad! I’ll talk to him, he’s really good I swear! Please don’t separate us!” he clutches your finger, tail wrapping around your arm desperately.
You sigh, bringing your other hand up to stroke his back. He shivers at your touch, tensing but doesn’t pull away. Guilt fills you as he continues to plead for you to not get rid of his brother. That was a bad move on your part, they had been essentially kidnapped before coming here. The only familiar things they had were each other, separating them would give them a one way ticket to depression land.
“I spoke in the heat of the moment,” you try to reassure him, “I won’t separate you… I promise.” Jade’s grip on your finger tightens, though he relaxed the rest of his body. After a few minutes he releases you, going to find his twin so you could both apologize.
Now you turned your attention back to Azul. Taking a seat, you lean back on your hands. After some thinking, you sigh. Taking a deep breath, you speak.
“You’re scared, I get it. You were yanked from your home suddenly and then treated as if you were an object instead of a living being. I can relate to what you went through. My parents got rid of me as soon as they found out I didn’t have a drop of magic. I was put into foster care but only people who needed physical labor would take me. They assumed I would be stronger to make up for my lack of magic. When they found the opposite was true, I was sent back. I have never stayed for more than a month in one home, they always found an excuse to send me back. At first I tried to make myself stand out, but now I know it’s pointless. A magicless human shouldn’t exist, it’s against the laws of nature. It’s best to keep your head low and out of the spotlight.” you stare at the ceiling, for if you didn’t you feared tears would flow. This was the first time you’d ever spoken these thoughts out loud. It felt… nice. Like a weight had been lifted from your shoulders.
Azul listened to you, slowly inching out of his sanctuary and closer to you as you spoke. When you were done, he was a few inches from you. He paused when you saw him, tense and ready to withdraw if needed. His face was round and body chubby, he looked quite squishy. You wanted to poke him if you were being honest.
You stay still and wait for him to make a move first. He ponders for a minute before coming to a decision. He crawls towards you, slowly making his way into your lap. You sit completely still, not wanting to spook him.
Azul settles down in your lap, his tentacles wrapping around your legs. He took up your whole lap space, his limbs very chunky and long. Lord you wanted to squish him so much no do not that might scare resist the urge I say RESIST IT R E S I S T.
~~~~~~
Hoisting yourself out of the tank, you pause to take a sniff of your shirt and scrunch your nose, it stank of raw fish. Dropping down you head for the stairs, thinking about what you should make for lunch. Sushi immediately comes to mind.
… yeah that’s definitely not a good idea.
A Gentleman (Part 7)
Edited-ish-- ~2.8k words. Warning: light smut
(Part 1) (Part 2) (Part 3) (Part 4) (Part 5) (Part 6)
Your cell vibrates. It is Rafe calling, so you swipe the screen to answer it. “Hello?” You place the phone between your shoulder and ear, so you can continue sorting through the mail.
“Are you home?” His voice is tense and angry.
“Yes, where are you?”
“Coming to get you, be ready in a few minutes.”
“Okay…”
He hangs up without another word, and a frown pulls your lips down as you drop the mail back into the holder and run to grab shoes before stepping outside. Rafe pulls his dad’s truck in, not bothering to cut the engine or get out as he reaches across and opens your door from the inside. You climb in wordlessly and buckle up before he pulls off.
“What’s wrong?” You question once you are down the road, and he has not said a word.
He is quiet, his hands gripping the wheel tightly.
“Rafe?” You question softly and reach over to touch his arm. “Baby, what’s wrong?”
“My dad told me I was useless and I should go live on the cut,” he mutters, not turning to look at you.
“What?”
He nods, glancing at you before turning back to the road. “I left, and I wanted to see you.”
“Okay, are we going to our spot?”
“Yeah.”
You sit quietly, your hand on his arm, before moving up to his shoulder and then the back of his neck. Your fingers are gentle as you trace circles on his skin. Once he’s parked, you slip into his arms after he opens your door. Your lips press to his, and he sighs before kissing you back.
“You aren’t useless.”
“Tell that to Ward.”
“Ward is being an asshole,” you say, your tone showing the anger you felt on his behalf before he takes your hand. You walk out to the beach. You take your usual spot and rest your head on his shoulder. "What is mad about this time?"
"College."
"Oh."
He nods, looking out at the water. The afternoon sun made his blue eyes sparkle.
“For what it is worth, I don’t think you are useless Baby.”
“I know." His tone is less angry, and he moves to lie with his head in your lap. His back against the warm sand, and his gaze fixated on you. Your fingers slip through his hair over and over until he seems to relax. You lean down and press your lips to his.
A few hours later, the sun starts to set, and you are both curled up on the beach, ignoring the world outside the bubble. “I need to start bringing a blanket,” you muse. "We can stay out here longer if we are warm."
He agrees before dipping his head to kiss you. You kiss him back, hands on his face as you move to straddle him instead of being against him.
"We can warm up another way."
You blush at the idea of sex on a public beach, but the look he is giving you sets fire to your core.
“I want you, right here and right now." His voice is breathy, and you shiver, pressing closer to him. You glance down the beach, and it's empty. His finger hooks under your chin, turning your face back to his. "It's just us Baby."
You kiss him and your hands reach down to pull his shirt off. He helps you before reaching for your own. Hands and lips eager to touch the other until he has you underneath him. His body pressing between your legs as he pushes into you. He was gorgeous and naked above you. You stare at him, drinking him in.
“Rafe,” you moan, head tipping back, eyes squeezing shut when he withdraws before pushing back inside of you.
“Eyes on me.”
You open your eyes staring as him and his hands pin yours against the sand. His body working yours. The heat spreading in your lower belly and intensifying when one of his hands drop between you. His thumb on your clit, rubbing circles that had your hips churning to meet his for every thrust. Your hand winding in his hair begging him to consume you whole.
“Rafe, touch me,” you beg and he lets go of your wrist to drag his hand down your side before moving to cup one of your breast before pulling a nipple into his mouth. You gasp, back arching up into him.
His thumb continues to circle, drawing you closer and closer. His thrusts speeding up. He lifts his head to look at you with a devilish grin. “You feel so fucking good wrapping around me like this.”
You bite your lip briefly before a moan slips out, spurring him on. “I like having you inside of me.”
Before you can beg for more, he finishes you in a way that you would have melted had it not been for the orgasm washing over you in a crashing wave, the built up tension rolling through you as you cried out his name. Your nails digging into the skin of his back and your legs wrapping around him.
“You’re mine, Baby, you’re all mine.”
“I’m yours,” you whisper against his lips.
Rafe groaned, face burying in your neck as he comes inside you. Every inch of you that can touch is as your chest rises and falls rapidly for breath. The sinking sun paints you both in beautiful colors.
His lips trail over your shoulder and neck while his hands stay busy touching your curves, tracing his name over your hot and dampened skin. You cup his face and tip his head to look at you. His forehead beads with sweat, his face flushed.
“I’ll never be sorry for us becoming this,” you murmur against his lips. “Because you make me feel incredible, Rafe Cameron.”
He laughs, and you can no longer see those storm clouds in his eyes. He pulls your mouth to his. After the kiss ends, you both get dressed before making your way toward the truck. Brushes of hands and lingering kisses drag out the walk back until he has you against the side of the truck. Your body is pinned as he devours you in kisses. You blush, smiling like a mad woman when he steps back.
You knew right then and there while staring at him that you were in love with him. And you hoped he loved you back because you could not handle it if he did not. Rafe Cameron owned you, body and soul, and you did not want it any other way.
— — — —
The Island Club is where you agreed to spend your afternoon. Your mother is on the board for Midsummers and that meant a mother-daughter lunch before her planning meeting, and you had hopes of seeing Sarah after not seeing her for nearly a week. You wandered down the hall, looking at all the historic pictures littering the wood-paneled walls.
“Look who it is!” An all too familiar voice calls. You turn your face to see Wyatt and Tyler heading toward you.
“What do you want?” You ask, crossing your arms around your waist.
Wyatt shrugs. “Thought we might have some fun while we are waiting.”
“By trying to jerk each other off in secret?” You ask, raising an eyebrow as you look them both over. “Did it go faster than you thought?”
Tyler mocks laughter at your comment while moving behind you once they are closer. You watch him out the corner of your eye, aware that they are up to something.
“Why do you have to be such a bitch?” Wyatt asks, tipping his head. You do not miss the glassy sheen in his eyes. He was drunk, and that meant Tyler was likely as well.
“You used to like my mouth,” you counter, glaring at him. “Or was that a lie too?”
He groans, shaking his head. “I never lied to you.” He steps closer, and you step back, but Tyler is there. His chest brushes against your back. Panic flares and you go to push past Wyatt, but his hands and body block you. “Easy there, Baby. I just want to talk.”
“About what?” You glare at him and go to shove him back, but Tyler grabs your arms before you can put your hands on Wyatt’s chest.
“Us. See, Tyler and I think you could be a good girlfriend to us.”
“Us?” You ask, your stomach turning.
“Yeah,” he nods, smirking at you. “Us. We can share. Besides, it’s not like anyone else wants you.”
“Fuck you, Wyatt!” You glare at him trying to pull free from Tyler, but he does not release you. Instead, his hands tighten around your arms. “You are both deranged if you think any girl will let you touch them.”
“Oh, but we don’t want any girl,” Tyler breathes into your ear. Your skin prickles with an icky feeling at his hot breath, and you turn your head away from him. “We want you, Princess.”
“Exactly,” Wyatt agrees, his body pinning you against Tyler.
You glare at him. “You are going to regret this. When Topper finds out, he’ll tell Rafe and Kelce, and you will wish you had made better choices.”
“They are here Babe, all three outside together. They don’t care about you, not really.” Wyatt’s fingers trace down the side of your face. “They know you are here, and they know we are here, they don’t care.”
“Rafe’s here?” You ask, eyes glued to Wyatt’s face. If Rafe was here and you could get to him, you would be safe.
“Yeah,” he nods before his fingers grip your jaw. “Why? Do you think Rafe cares about the Little Thornton bitch? Not likely. He’s got so many girls in the OBX that would suck his dick, he’s not going to care about you.”
You glare at him, heat pricking your body. “Jokes on you, I’ve been fucking him since that party.”
Wyatt rears back like you have slapped him before his face turns dark. “So you’re a whore then?!”
“I’m his girlfriend, asshole!” You shout, still trying to get free from Tyler. “And he’s going to be pissed when I tell him.”
“Funny, we just saw Constance’s cousin flirting with him at the bar, didn’t we Tyler?” Wyatt asks.
“Yep,” Tyler chuckles behind you. “He took her number too.”
“You are lying!” You glare at him and struggle harder against Tyler, but Wyatt slaps you. The sting there as he heaves for air in front of you.
“I’m the only one that fucking cares about you, and you are calling me a liar?!” He yells.
“Hey!” Sarah’s voice echoes down the hall, and you gasp, struggling against Tyler. “Get your hands off of her! Topper! Rafe!” She yells back down the hall. “Wheezie! Go get Topper no
Tyler’s hold loosens and you take it as your opportunity to break free. You shove Wyatt against the wall before turning and slamming your knee in between Tyler’s legs, and he groans dropping to the floor with his hand against himself before you run to Sarah and grasp her arm.
“Bitch!” Tyler yells while getting to his feet.
“Let’s go!” You urge her by pulling her back towards the main rooms. You nearly collide with Rafe and Topper. Rafe's hands are on your back as he stares down at you. His eyes locked in on the mark left from Wyatt’s slap.
“He hit her,” Sarah breathes, grasping Topper’s arms. “They had her pinned between them. I think they were going to…”
She fades out as Rafe’s head whips towards the pair that is now cornered in the hall.
"Get her out into the main room Sarah," Topper instructs. "Neither of you needs to see this."
Sarah takes your arm before leading you out into the main room. Her touch is gentle as she inspects your face. You wince when the edge of her fingertips brush the mark left behind. "Why don't we go find some ice?"
“I’ve got it,” you whisper without looking at her, and you go into the hallway leading to the kitchen. You smile weakly at a few workers as you pass before you enter the swinging doors.
“What are you doing back here?” A girl you recognized as a server slows in passing.
“I need ice,” you say softly, attempting a smile and gesturing to your face.
“Wow!” She exhales. “Hey! Maybank! Get this girl a small bag of ice.”
“Who?!” His voice calls and JJ steps out from behind a rack of drying glasses. His gaze falls on you. “Workers only back here, Kook.”
“I just need ice,” you murmur and gesture to your face. JJ's eyebrows raise once he sees the mark before coming closer.
“Alright come on,” he grabs your hand, pulling you back into a smaller area and out of the way of the foot traffic. “Have a seat,” he gestures to a small stool stashed under the counter. You pull it out and sit, crossing your legs as you watch him disappear around the corner. He returns a few seconds later with a zip lock bag and begins filling it with ice out of the ice maker. His blue eyes flicker over to you after every scoop. “Who did that?”
“Wyatt Tanner.”
“Asshole.”
“Tell me about it.”
He comes closer while zipping it before pressing it to your face. You hiss, and he frowns. “It’ll help.”
“Thanks,” you whisper, looking up at him. He smiled, dimples appearing before he gently replaces your hand with his.
“Why did he hit you? I thought you two were dating.”
“We broke up almost two months ago. He is just not letting go and thinks I belong to him.” You say, anger bubbling up. “He was going to try to share me with his friend, Tyler Posey.”
JJ frowns.
“I know,” you exhale before studying him. “I don’t want to keep you from your job.”
“It’s fine.” He runs his hand through his hair, and you take the time to study him. “What?”
“Nothing. You are nicer than I was led to believe.”
He laughs a little. “I always help a pretty girl.”
“Thank you-“
“Maybank,” Rafe’s voice comes from the doorway, and you both look to see him step into the small space. His worried gaze on you before going back to JJ. “What are you-”
“He got ice for me,” you cut him off, stopping Rafe in his tracks. "JJ is being nice.”
“Okay,” he says, moving around JJ to look at your face. He glances over his shoulder at JJ. “I’ve got her. Thanks for the ice.”
“Yep,” JJ mutters and turns going. You watch him go and smile briefly before mouthing a quick thank you when he glances back over his shoulder. You turn back to Rafe as he gently removes the ice from your face.
“I could kill him.”
“Can we go to your house? I don’t want to go home, and I don’t want my mom or dad to see me like this.”
“Sure,” he responds. “I’ll get Topper to take us all to Tanneyhill.”
“Thanks.” You stand and reach for his hand, but pause at his bruising and bloody knuckles. “You might need this more,” you say trying to pass the ice to him. He shakes his head.
“My hand will be fine. Come on, let’s go.” He grasps your hand, fingers slotting between yours as he leads you out through the kitchen back to the hallway. You take a last look at JJ, who smiles at you before the door swings shut.
You emerge into the bar area, and Sarah comes closer with Topper close behind her.
“Where’s Kelce?”
“Taking the trash out permanently,” Topper says, studying you. “How bad?”
“Just a slap,” you say weakly. “I don’t want mom or dad seeing it, so we are going to Tanneyhill.”
“Alright,” he agrees. “Let’s go then.”
“Come on.” Sarah reaches for your hand, and Rafe lets it go so she can take it. She grasps it, and you both walk out to the jeep. She takes the passenger seat, and Rafe climbs in with you. You exhale in relief once you are out of the parking lot. Your mom would not see you like this. You could only imagine what she would say or do right now.
“Thank you for taking care of them,” you say out loud. “Sarah, thank you for being in the right place at the right time.”
She is silent for a bit before she clears her throat. “I don’t want to think about what they would’ve done if I hadn’t.”
“Me either,” you say and lean into Rafe. He looks down at you, eyebrow raised at your confidence in letting him touch you. “I owe you all big time.”
“Forget it, it’s what big brothers do,” Topper says, glancing in the mirror. His worried gaze on you.
