11 year old Gerry Kaey - a psychological analysis

Like everyone else, I was of course delighted by the presence of our beloved arsonist on our list of child test-subjects at the World Line 2 Magnus Institute (not delighted that he was having unethical psychology experiments performed on him, delighted by his presence. though it’s possible that this was actually a better childhood than he had with Mary. but I digress.)

(Data set can be found here, if anyone else wants to make a copy and play with it, and this post has my fave analysis of the sheet itself)

The data for Gerard Kaey was absolutely delightful, and it indicated more than almost anything else that some people were in fact the same (or very similar) across world lines. I was going to post about it and then I remembered that not everyone was forced to take a slightly outdated Educational Psychology class recently, and thus the random names at the top would not be indicators of fuckin anything without extensive Googling.

I figured trolling the internet for details on outdated developmental psychology theories and unethical sociology experiments is not most people’s idea of a fun afternoon (tho in the magnus fandom you never know); either way I figured I’d pull out the fun and interesting data on this goth child and translate it into human terms for us all to enjoy.

(QUICK NOTE: Pretty much all of these theories are outdated on account of being No Good and quite reductive and many of the experiments are EXTREMELY fucked up (all of which makes sense, given where these fictional data came from). If you’re curious about any of the actual psychological theories and criticisms, here’s a relatively jargon free summary, with further reading at the bottom. I’m gonna follow the time-honored tradition of psychology professors and say “well it sucks and was bad that this happened BUT it did happen and we might as well use the data to come to some general conclusions and/or ask better questions, especially about the people performing those tests in the first place.” anyway ty for coming to my TED talk ONTO THE GERRY DATA)

Let’s start here.

Kholberg’s Theory of Moral Development is a metric for measuring the moral development in children. It has three stages. A child who has reached the “third stage” demonstrates a consideration of the needs and feelings of others when making morality-based decisions and judgements, even above the norms and expectations of society.

Prosocial behavior is behavior that can be characterized as having no direct benefit to the person performing an action; something done entirely for the good of others.

Empathy Index is pretty self-explanatory (as far as I can tell, it’s not actually based on anything and is something the researchers created just for this experiment).

So far, we’ve got a rough picture of Gerry as a kid who has a strong moral compass, who is quick to help, even when there’s no benefit for himself. Who considers what the people around him might want or need. Who is able to throw social expectation out the window when someone else is in need.

Reminds me of that older, slightly different version of himself, sitting alone at a table in Venice, wearing a Hawaiian shirt because he’s “on vacation,” sighing in exasperation at the interruption and telling a stranger to think of her mother.

These are my favorite rows. They’re all the way at the end of the spreadsheet, which kind of makes me imagine that the testers had this image of a highly developed child, a kid who seemed perfect for whatever they had planned. And then…

Milgram was the motherfucker who ran the experiment where people were told to press a button, and when they did, another participant was delivered an electric shock. (there wasn’t actually a shock in Milgram’s experiment, just an actor pretending to be shocked. The socks were fake, but the psychological damage was real!) The test was designed to measure how long people would continue to do what they were told by the “scientist” running the test, even as the electric shock appeared to grow stronger. A “low” score is indicative of someone who bailed out ASAP, no matter what the test-runner said.

The Asch Conformity Experiment put a large number of people in the room (most of whom were actors) and showed them a series of images of lines with different lengths, and they had to identify which was longest. The actors all gave the correct answer for the first few, and then all of them started to give the exact same wrong answer (i.e. all of them would say B, even if Line A was clearly longest). The test measured how likely a subject was to conform to the group opinion, even when they knew the people around them were objectively wrong, if they were the only one offering a different (but correct) answer over the course of several rounds of images.

I have this super clear image of little Gerry in a ratty pair of jeans and a band t-shirt, long hair absolutely unbrushed, walking into a room with a dude in a lab coat and someone else strapped to a chair and IMMEDIATELY getting suspicious, and just refusing to press the button again once he realized what it did, leaving the actors just… lost as to how to proceed. And then with the Asch test, he’s just sitting there with a look of incredulity on his face looking at the people around him and saying “do you people need fucking glasses all of a sudden? it’s not fucking B.” and just ignoring them for the rest of the test.

and all of the Magnus people who had been VERY excited about this promising young person all of a sudden realizing that they have accidentally recruited a VERY intelligent juvenile delinquent.

so there you have it! World Line 2 Gerry Kaey was kind when he didn’t have to be, he didn’t give a shit how other people felt about him, he cared deeply for other people, UNLESS of course they were people in authority, in which case he told them to go fuck themselves.

final fun notes:

Gerry has the second highest number on the Empathy Index at 95%

The only kid who beat him, with a score of 98%, was 9 year old “Samara Khalid”

10 year old “Conner Dyer” scored “Low” on the Milgram and Asch tests JUST like Gerry. I wonder if they were friends.

Other than that, Dyer is almost exactly average among the rest of the data

They still accepts to play with him and Pump's reaction is pretty much the same, but Skid got what the intention of the game was as soon as he heard it. He put his hand above Pump's and planned to grab the knife before Dexter could attack them, even having a scene where Skid takes a peek and gets up before Susie comes in. He still didn't understood that it's a possessed doll tho, just that "it's a really fun one". Susie and Pump's interaction is also more insensitive:

"This is the last straw! I'll tell mom and dad you wanting it or not, you brat!"

"Call them, those two don't care anyway!"

IGNACIO'S DOOR

First of all Skid is the one who gave Pump that hammer, just to make it clear. Once they break Ignacio's door and go "trick or treat!", instead of trying to be scary, they start bickering each other to get the candy.

"Excuse me? You just BROKE MY DOOR."

"And? Trick or treat!!"

Ignacio gets annoyed with his bratty behaviour, closes the door again and then Skid decides to break part of his door with the hammer himself. Ignacio yells at them again to stop doing that if they don't want to end up dead, and after Skid reply that his "old man face" doesn't scare them he finally gives in by throwing the candy on their faces.

They ask what they were doing with Father Gregor, and Pump just annoyingly says that he's been bothering them with "that stupid lesson on how to be a good kid". Jack tries to reassure them that he has really good intentions and that being nice does comes with its lots of benefits such as making other friends, but Skid insists that they only need each other and their family. After that, John looks at his daughter's picture and adds that he's sure that their parents does loves them a lot, but would be very upset if their actions ended up causing any harm to themselves.

Finally, Pump soon answers "They don't care now, so they won't later" while Skid just looks away from them.

“We are Hirogaru sky precure!” Chills, what a finale. Toei pulled out all the stops in this episode. A spectacle from start to finish. Storyboarding was amazing, the insert song during the climax fight was great and all of the scenes oozed sakuga. So many screenshot worthy scenes from this.

Loved Kaiserin fully rejecting Daijarg! Then that final attack scene was everything I could’ve hoped for and more. You really felt all the girls experiences, hopes and dreams in that!

In the end everyone got the best possible ending. Kaiserin is back in the undergu empire with 3 loveable idiots as her right hand men and a friendship between skyland and undergu that will last a very long time! So cute to see her making dolls again. That laugh at the end sounded like she did as a kid. Wish her dad was still around to see her all grown up tho 😢

Back in sorashido city, the waterworks were strong in this one. After a year of being together nonstop, being in different worlds is understandably daunting. Even though they can each other whenever, it’s still not quite the same as waking up and going to sleep with someone like Mashiro and Sora did. Their “goodbye”* was so beautiful “You really are a hero, Sora. So cool and strong” that’s gotta be awesome to hear from your bestfriend! Sora really has grown into a real life super hero. She’s confronted her weaknesses time and again and always overcome them!

Wish she would’ve given Mashiro a hug during that scene instead of just the handshake though lol. She was bawling her eyes out!

Tsubasa and Ageha goodbye was cute too. Ageha just can’t stop being a teacher 😂 even in that convo she’s motivating tsubasa to achieve his goals and become a sage.

Well they stressed how they were still connected by a tunnel, wasn’t expecting to see them come back the very next day after all those emotional goodbyes lmao. But cute nonetheless. I’m glad everyone can remain connected and continue growing!

Sora is now to other little girls what the captain was to her, a shining example to follow. Really cool post credits scene.

So this was my first precure. I watched otona pre while this was airing as well so I’ve now seen two. Love this series so much. May be aimed at little girls but it doesn’t mean I, as a grown ass man can’t have fun with and appreciate it. Had a blast with this and I’m going to miss these girls so much 😢

El, Virginia and Katinka

This is what I do at 1 am...

Katinka is the diminutive form of Katerina. Meaning: pure. Often used for small children.

Yuri is the russian variant of George. Like "George Smith" in the prequel. He says that there are two Katinkas: a woman and the helicopter, "a virgin".

Virginia means pure. According to legend, Virginia was a Roman girl who was killed by her father in order to save her from seduction by a corrupt government official (interesting)

I think young, pure Katinka and adult Katinka are a reference to young Virginia Creel and adult Virginia.

But there's also a big parallel between El and Katinka. Yuri removes the spark plug, so that Katinka can't fly. Brenner tells El that her powers were still there after the massacre, they just needed a spark. So, like Kali says, there is a missing piece. For the helicopter, it's the spark plug, for El it's her memories.

Mike compares her to Superman, and Brenner says that in order to defeat One she will have to fly. But she's not ready, because she still doesn't know the whole truth. In fact, she destabilezes the helicopter, while Yuri and Enzo, when they're finally on the same page ("become whole again") make Katinka fly.

Also, all the memories they show when Brenner says that El needed a spark, are terrible and sad: El crying, or killing people with the head tilt, like Henry does in S4.

What gives her her powers back and makes her even more powerful is not a spark (cruel experiments, fear and isolation) but a bright light. And it's not remembering Henry or her opening the gate. It's the memory of her mother.

A happy memory, different from what she saw in Terry's mind. They didn't let Terry say hello to Jane. Imo, one of the hints that she's not her mother. She is mama to Brenner's papa. They became her parents, yes, (all the paralles with Hopper and Joyce) but after she was swapped at the hospital. El has started to remember tho...

They tell her that thanks to Nina, which means little girl in Spanish (Joyce's last name, Maldonado, is Spanish) she will become even more powerful. But when they say that and when she lifts the water tank, they only focus on her and the doctor who looks like Will.

But if the whole point of Nina is to help El to remember how she defeated Henry, it's strange that they focus on a woman who looks like her brother, who wasn't even in those memories.

Unless the missing piece is the memory of her real family. After the van scene, we get this transition and Brenner saying that he doesn't know what El found in herself that day. Maybe they show it here what she found, for a brief moment. She found him, Will. And Joyce.

Another hint might be the parallel between the hand El sees in her memory and Nancy touching the light particles, after she mentions Will and Joyce, and Dustin says that it's a tear in time and space.

Dustin also mentions Mothergate. He says 'This is the answer' when Karen asks the agent if he wants a glass of water. Then they talk about tears in the fabric of time and space, and there's the painting of a lake behind them (the car crash. Yeah, I love that theory ok? lol) I think Mothergate is also about the UD/Mind Flayer spreading into our world, a parallel with IT, who takes the shape of a giant spider and laid eggs in her lair, like the spiders Max sees in Vecna's mind space (other parallels with IT) But yeah, El's mother and water. A lake and a tear in time and space...

Like I said in other posts, I don't think these are coincidences. Like Karen showing up and mentioning water when they talk about Mothergate. She's the one who joked about Nancy being 'swapped at the hospital'. It's not a coincidence that she and Nancy are always in scenes that hint at what might've happened to El in the past. Including the parallels with Barb. Because it's possible that Karen is connected to Henry, so maybe these are hints about both her story and El's.

1️⃣ The overarching plot of the Alegría Legacy is quite simplistic, so I don't have to set up specific scenes! Btw, I've been playing in the PlumbobKingdom's save file and I've used many of his lots. If my sims aren't on one of his lots and I'm posting screenshots, I'll usually provide the link.

You won't see me build 😅 The only place I somewhat "built" was the Diced Junior kitchen. It's funny because it's just a big box. I left the walls outside blank too.

Even though Diced Junior was meant to be filmed in Tartosa, the lot itself is in Oasis Springs. I tried to cover that up by placing a bunch of hedges and trees where the windows are. You can see it if you look closely.

This door here? It doesn't lead to the rest of the Diced Junior building. There's no hallway or anything. It leads directly outside to the lovely Oasis Springs dessert.

2️⃣ Sooo, whenever you see any building in my posts, just assume I didn't build it 😂 Unless I explicitly say it, which may never happen. I don't like to build. I know people say it's easier to build in The Sims 4 than it is to build in The Sims 3 but look at the last monstrosity I built in The Sims 3:

Lack of canon Gyro and Gandra interaction

So, in this post, I mentioned how I think Gyro and Gandra would have gotten along ok- in their own snarky, dry-humored way- and have a grudging respect and understanding for one another because of how similar their backstories and their personalities (as a result of their difficult pasts) are... as well as the fact that in both 'Beaks in the Shell' and 'The Last Adventure', they worked together as part of a team to help save the day near the end- heck, in the latter episode, Gandra even risked her life to save Gyro and Ludwig Von Drake- and in 'The Last Adventure' specifically, they spent a significant portion of their shared screentime imprisoned together.

But I also think it was such a missed opportunity for them to interact more during the screentime they shared in those episodes.

In either of those episodes, it would have been so neat to have Gandra apologize to Gyro for zapping him into unconsciousness, leaving him locked up inside a closet, and causing his lab to get broken into/destroyed by Beaks (in 'Dangerous Chemistry of Gandra Dee'). She could've even told him Fenton spoke very highly of him and that he'd said how alike her and Gyro are (because I can see Fenton doing that, even tho it was never actually shown)! I like to think Gandra had earned his respect as a brilliant scientist (or "competent" scientist, as he would probably call her in trying to downplay it) for her part in the scientific marvel that was the GizmoCloud- which Gyro openly admitted to being very impressed by in 'Beaks in the Shell', just before getting embarrassed for blurting it out and then trying to downplay it- and for her skills when fighting Beaks. I can see him grudgingly accepting her apology, admitting she's gained the rare honor of his respect, telling her that he trusts her because he trusts and respects Fenton (which would've shown even more growth on his part), and concluding by offering her a job in the lab.

Such a scene would've worked equally well in either 'Beaks in the Shell' after they defeated Beaks or 'The Last Adventure' when they were all imprisoned together (after learning from Gandra that Bradford planned to destroy everyone even remotely associated with Scrooge and his family). If it had happened in 'Beaks in the Shell', it would have been such a cute opportunity for an emotional Fenton to gratefully squeeze the two of the most important people in his life into a bone-crushing bear-hug in the Gizmoduck armor (just like his reaction to finally gaining Gyro's respect and approval at the end of 'Astro B.O.Y.D.'), causing them to either grimace or smile awkwardly. Buuuuut I think it would've been even more meaningful in 'The Last Adventure' when they were imprisoned together and facing death... Gandra could've started her apology as "Listen, Gearloose, in case we don't get out of here alive, I just want to say-" And Gyro could've began his offer of employment by saying "And if we make it through this-" Alsooo, Gyro could've told Gandra (as a sort of parallel to her possibly telling him Fenton had spoken highly of him/mentioned how alike they were) that Fenton talked about her nonstop in the past weeks since she went missing and how out of his mind with worry he'd been (Gyro likely would've half-jokingly said "It was actually kind of distracting").

And I love the idea of the two of them affectionately saying to each other about Fenton in their dry, snarky way, "He may be a dummy, but he's our dummy."

And I definitely hc that Gyro's respect for Gandra increased even more after she risked her life to protect him and Ludwig Von Drake from Bradford's attack (see above screenshot), which honestly, not enough people talk about! I may be on the fence about Gandra sometimes, but that was definitely her finest hour!

Why Kawi is so Ace-coded (and anxious)[Cinematography wise]

I decided in order to keep discussing and analyzing Be My Favorite EP10 with @pinkkop and @rocketturtle4 posts on board, I want to point out more details and signs. Disclaimer: I may not know the depth of sexually-undesiring allo people but I know my visual storytelling tools when I see some.

It seems like there are two camps of viewers who view Kawi as ace vs who view Kawi as just hesitant to changes/intimacy. As a proud and hopeful member of the first camp, I want to show why do I think Kawi always felt somewhat ace-apec, but especially it kicked the ace people right in the heart in Episode 10. We talked about all the too intentional lines (ace-core from Kawi and ace-phobic from Max & Pisaeng) so I'm not pausing for them much.

So, Kawi has gone 30 years without relationship or sleeping with someone, or even trying. As @pinkkop said, how come he realizes he's queer only now? We have Max and Pisaeng who know they're gay for years, and a lot of queer people find their heart doesn't align with society norms in youth. But ace people often don't realize they are queer until 20+ or even 30+.

Kawi has lived with his romantic crush on Pear for years and a couple of time travels. As we know, he doesn't know how to navigate the relationship once he gets it, once he starts dating her, he can't give her marriage and a kid (partially because he was not ready and it wasn't what he needed/wanted, he wanted only the idea of dating Pear and stop being a loser). Not once he commented or agreed with Not & friends talking about Pear being hottest girl in uni (tho mostly it was Pisaeng dealing with it) – Kawi liked her for being kind and caring.

But then, he fell in love with Pisaeng. He started dating Pisaeng. Is he ready to go further? No, and there could be plenty of reasons, ranging from anxiety, self-doubts and trauma to lack of desire. He drank just to be able to kiss him, ffs. I am sure Kawi has a lot of psychological things holding him back from trying, it's been established, but that's not all of it in my opinion.

I'll put the rest under the cut because I feel like this post will be too long with all the screenshots, feel free to read the rest of it and let me know your thoughts~

Whenever in BL main characters end up on one bed, it's almost inevitable trope of 'will they won't they'. BMF teased us the other day with the drunk brave kiss from Kawi:

And that's how you show someone's desire to kiss: Kawi was staring at Pisaeng for minutes (notably, Pisaeng didn't have any thoughts until Kawi demanded attention and meaningfully stared some more). Everything slows down, you get some slow music, you cut down to faces/details to express emotions and let the viewer absorb the atmosphere (romantic or sexual or even inner dramatic turmoil – all the important bits use tools like this).

That's how I know Kawi wants to kiss. Kawi will want to keep kissing Pisaeng even when sober, once he gets past his block. Yeah, ace people can be comfortable with kissing too.

But do we ever get an impression Kawi wants to have sex with Pisaeng? Are we ever shown this? Not in my humble opinion.

Kawi doesn't touch Pisaeng much when kissing him. In fact, I think that scene is the only instance. We have talked about how intentional not-touching is seen with Pisaeng and Kawi relationship development, sorry I won't find those comments now. Then Kawi conveniently gets what he wanted (da kiss) and falls back asleep:D While Pisaeng is having his slow-close-up romantic moment by himself:

Now, fast forward to the future (but not the Future future) - Kawi is sober, lies in bed with Pisaeng (way less sober last night), already happy in a brand new relationship... and the only thoughts he's having is how Pisaeng is good looking and they are dating now.

I think I can safely bet how in all the other BLs there is usually a moment to close up on the romantic interest's face, or lips, longing stare showing the MC's desire to be intimate with your love. It's in 99% of the shows. Kawi has none of it. He just has a funky cute dialogue in his head that says 'I just want to keep staring at him' (and nothing else huh?)

The next trope BLs just love to use is someone undressing in front of their crush/partner. Let me just pull the scene from The Eclipse out (I wish I could compare it to P'Waa other works but BMF is his first BL, yet he definitely knows how to use visual tools)

Here at 2:25 we have Akk, a guy, inexperienced with dating and relationships too AND having insane amount of trauma, anxiety, self-doubts and holding back. So much that he has to break down crying several times to allow himself seek his own love and happiness. And yet in the beginning of his journey he still CLEARLY shows his interest in Ayan, even when they are enemies/rivals. It comes with:

staring at Ayan, looking him up and down, swallowing, turning his head away (indication of being flustered and having dirty thoughts)

close-ups on Ayan undressing

sexy music as bgm

And then we get his feelings and desire confirmed with very hot bed kiss that Akk, turns out, literally fantasized. (i actually was headcanonning akk as ace-spec but i accepted that wasn't the case as the show went on and we got shown more so yeah i can change my mind but kawi is heavily aced in 10 episodes and it's not stopping so far)

Compare the similar scene and trope with Kawi and Pisaeng undressing. Kawi is confused, mildly annoyed?, not a single swallow or eyes running away until he takes a hint (accompanied by the familiar sound that BMF uses for 'oh shit' realization). Funky comedic music on the background (and we know BMF does have osts for the romantic mood). Most importantly, there is never close-up/detail shot on Pisaeng.

Detail shots are 100% the go-to when you want to show desire, as I already said. Put a close up on the detail on someone else's body and add person's face reaction. Boom, you've got it.

Like, see the difference? Do you see it? That's Akk's POV.

And that's Kawi's POV:

Mind you, these are ALREADY BRAND NEW BOYFRIENDS. All poor Pisaeng gets is half- and full-body shots (adding to the comedy/simply telling what's happening), no slowing down the narration - and all the detailed looks on his body are simply out of focus, on the edge of the frame. I am fascinated by this cinematography.

We literally can see the book Kawi reads clearer than Pisaeng having his sexy striptease alone. Kawi is more interested in reading Sherlock Holmes than ogling Pisaeng and fantasizing about being close to him (even with all the inner turmoil he could be having – he is having it later, once he catches up on Pisaeng's blunt hit of inviting him to the shower and condoms in his backpack). it's also funny how kawi has the time to nag pisaeng about towel but since it's improv from krist to gawin who kept forgetting it, i'm not taking it seriously

Even then, his thoughts are confidently said out loud 'can we not have any sexual activities at all?', avoiding staying alone with Pisaeng in his room, 'i don't want to ride, i'm just here to take the vibes' (and while Pisaeng is upset and sad from the failed metaphor, Kawi genuinely thinks their date was great, this was enough for him, Kawi is brutally honest with Pisaeng, he wouldn't say this if he really didn't think so).

I can't remember any instances where sexy close-up shots were used in Kawi's POV. Only with kissing. Adding all the dialogue lines from Kawi and answers from others that are painfully precisely familiar for majority of ace people, adding how Kawi never has thought dirty thoughts until he clicked on people suggesting them (and not enjoying it)... I am dying on this hill and begging BMF not to fuck this up. Please don't give me ace erasure when ace-spec!Kawi has been hinted so heavily through several storytelling tools. They can meet in the middle, I just want BMF to be caring to Kawi and his feelings and not force him to cater to Pisaeng's needs because that's 'what happy boyfriends do and turns out, he did need to try it first to learn that he craves it!'

P.S. I do know Pisaeng and Kawi talked before the last scene and we'll 99.9% see it later, I'm also 90% sure Pisaeng time travelled in Ep.10, and I would be pleasantly surprised if we end up with Kawi and Pisaeng not going too far when they explore being intimate for the first time.

Oh, about the last scene. I had many mixed feelings (and was surprised to see people commenting how awww romantic and touching it was), because Krist shows a lot of internal struggle for Kawi (and no, not because he doesn't wanna kiss Gawin, fight me).

It's the blinking eyes, heavy breathing as soon as Kawi sheds his shirt, the swallowing, neck muscle twitching, furrowed determined eyebrows) and several little nods when he responds to 'Are you sure'?

It's very intentional acting. It's fucking brilliant acting in showing Kawi's anxiety and gosh, Kawi is being so brave to take this challenge and change his whole life once again, I might cry. If he turns out to be ace, I might actually cry but like I pointed out before, for me Kawi's lack of sexual desire is very readable. But no matter what, I have my trust in BMF to tread Pisaeng and Kawi intimacy carefully, it's been great so far and P'Waa knows what he's doing and how he is filming. I just hope it aligns with my wishful thinking.

WIP Wednesday!

A long time ago, I was tagged by @katsigian (on my main blog "sorryiliketoscreenshot"), and I finally got some time on a Wednesday to do it so let's go!

Part 1 - Screenshotting & Editing!

So, I am no "wip wednesday" professional, I may have done it just once or twice, and I'm working on many things right now so let's go by parts!

Since DBH is rotating on my head like a microwave plate, it is in fact what I've been mostly on these past weeks so uh... my folder number kinda looks like this

And since I can't play with lights on DBH as I used to do on my Cyberpunk shots, I'm trying to edit the shots on gimp (I know, I know, not the best option, but it's free so I guess it's a start?), which is a challenge for me XD

The next shots to be edited are these ones:

I won't be posting them all, but I am still unsure which ones should be The Chosen Ones™ 

I am also trying to figure out what I want to edit on those, I've done a couple of tries of removing all the colors besides blue, like this one:

Part 2 - Writing

But I am not so sure yet! I am still new to editing photography, so if anyone reading this has any tips, please let me know!

Yeah! I'm writing again! And this time I even *finished a chapter* 😎 I knoooow!! Impressive right?! I've never finished a fic chapter before 😂😂

So now I'm currently working on the second chapter, and I wrote the first paragraphs!

It's a DBH fanfic, an idiots-to-lovers with ReaderXConnor as pairing, and it is in second person POV, which is a big challenge for a non-native speaker like me XP

Your phone alarm rings again, and you groan in response. It was past 10 am, but if you get up now you may reach the precinct before noon. You sit on the side of your bed and face yourself in the huge mirror on your wardrobe door. "Damn, I'm wasted," you thought when you noticed how bad your face was, the usual pair of dark circles around your eyes were now decorated with a black eye right under the untidy bandage on your eyebrow. You sigh heavily.

The day after wasn't easy on you. You woke up with a dry mouth and pain from head to toe. Androids are tough to fight, and their fists may hit harder on your soft skin, so you end up finding bruises you didn't even remember, and the hangover made everything feel worse. You stretch your arm to reach the painkillers and water bottle you used to have on your nightstand. After taking the pills you roll over to your pillow, regretting every drop of alcohol you drank last night. The sun high in the sky was lighting up your whole room since you forgot to close the curtains.

As you rise from the bed to get closer to the mirror you realize you've slept wearing just Connor's t-shirt and panties, you catch your own face acquiring a reddish tone. "I should put it on the washing machine now so it's ready when I return home" you said to yourself, brushing away any other rushing thought.

You leave the washing machine working and go for a hot shower. As the warmth of the water eases your muscles and relaxes the hurting skin, your mind starts to drift away, bringing back bits from the past night. You recall the way his arms pulled you in, the way his hand gently held you against his body, the way his lips crashed yours without hesitation. A shiver ran down your spine as you recall the sensation of his tongue, the unique shock waves were a pleasant surprise. "Wait, what are you doing?" you swept the emerging thoughts "He's your friend, no, worse, he's your coworker! Nothing will ever happen between you two! That kiss meant nothing" you scold yourself.

You hop out of the shower not much later and quickly get ready for work, stopping in front of the mirror one last time to check if a bandage for your eyebrow is needed. "Nah, it will heal. But the nasty eye tho…" You grab your makeup purse and try to hide the black eye the best you can, but you're no magician and after a couple of tries it's still visible somehow, you give up and just grab sunglasses on your way out.

This is the *first* draft, so I'll probably tweak it a lot yet. This also is the first time I'm posting something that isn't a finished piece, and if you're reading this know you're the first person ever! I haven't shown this to anyone yet, and it probably will take some time for people to see it anyway.

The weather was warmer than yesterday, with a couple of clouds in the sky and a bright sun shining through, the traces of snow were now just puddles on the streets. You didn't live far from the Police Station but you decided to take the car anyway, you were already late and it will save you a couple of minutes.

I would also do a "Part 3 - Drawing & Memes", but I'm not comfortable with the results yet! Perhaps in a couple of weeks!

But just know that I have a *nice* DBH meme to finish! It is a redraw, and I am no artist, but I'm doing it for the laugh anyway xP You will see it someday! I promise!

i love your seeing your art, but I'm so curious to see what your salads (like lorelai, merritt, etc) look like in game! Ik sometimes in-game representations aren't completely accurate, but could you show some screenshots, for curiosity reasons 👀

i can!!! full disclosure i am very bad at screencaps (i WANT to get better i'm just lazy + impatient....) so i actually don't have a ton of good ones -- normally i just am kind of. spamming rough caps without even hiding the UI just to use as drawing reference. BUT, let's see what i do have!

AND OMG YES LET ME TELL YOU THE STORY so i've talked about this play a lot on here i think!! it was the one where my director got really mad and yelled at people backstage and the asm back there put his headset mic down so we could be nosy and listen in LMAO (while we were all hiding in the booth and then got jumpscared when his bald whiny head appeared outside the window) etc. it was that show!!! so also what happened was that bc i'm a little catwalk monkey lights kid freak i was always up there or asked to go up there to help with things!! and sometimes i have to do not osha safe things like climb on the batons!! (allow me to find a picture for reference)

OKAY I ALMOST COULDN'T FIND A PIC BUT THEN I FOUND EXACTLY WHAT I WAS LOOKING FOR (i'm going to guess my school is just especially unsafe LMAO like when our theatre was constructed it was NOT done right we have so many violations and like not all of our channels work...some of them are double channeled...etc SORRY THIS IS ME RANTING DW ABOUT FOLLOWING ALONG)

OKAY SO ANYWAY IF U SEE HOW LIKE THESE "BATONS" ARE JUST THESE METAL RODS LITERALLY JUST SECURED BY CHAINS??? WE HAD A BUNCH OF THESE ON OUR CATWALKS (so not all of them had these curtains on them!!) and sometimes we'd have to hang lights on ones that were far out (like not easily accesible) so what i would have to do is climb over the railing of our catwalks and step onto these little tiny poles and basically sit on two of them (yes there was a lot of space between these batons. that's why it was not safe and not a job we trusted a lot of people to do. yes my director forced me to try and wear a harness my last year of hs [after an entire year of not wearing a harness doing this stuff] and no he did not succeed or actually care that much [so i basically never wore a harness risking my life LMAO]) BUT ANYWAY so basically during this show i needed to go out onto these batons to hang a light!! but i was just thinking about where i wanted to put the light and everything and i needed to hold my phone!! so instead of putting it in my pockets or on the floor like a normal person i held it in my mouth!! which i had done multiple times but apparently this time i bit it a bit too hard and so the screen broke and would no longer register touch!! a wonderful time honestly!!! and so then i had go back to my super ancient phone bc i didn't feel like trying to get the screen fixed and didn't even know if it was worth it but that phone was always on its last life and started giving out this summer so then i finally got it repaired yay!!! (AND ALSO FOR REFERENCE old phones were built different yk. like my old phone, the show right after this play where i bit and broke this other phone yk, i accidentally dropped this old phone from the catwalks bc my hands were really shaky one day and it SURVIVED LMAO)

tw for blood ofc!! so about my finger!! so also during this show!! in the catwalks we hung up a little curtain that reached like halfway to the ground or so so that we could project cute little patterns onto the curtain (this was a horror show btw. very cutesy. very demure.) but after we did the show, i was sent up there to take the curtain down, well that curtain had been a BEAST to hang in the first place like it had taken i think two separate groups over the course of two weeks to get that thing secure so like there was wire wrapped around one of the catwalk bars a thousand times PLUS there was tape all around all that wire so i'm like tearing through this all trying to get the wire undone but then it cut me!! :( so my thumb started bleeding and so one of my kids kept a blood covered wire (my blood ofc) as a souvenir and i left my bloody thumbprint on that bar :)) and then i think we literally just put like spike tape around my cut it was a crazy day but that happens often!! i remember moving a bed once and then i was like "EW WHY IS THE BED WET" but it was actually bc my finger!! was once again bleeding 😭 I HAVE TONS OF CRAZY STORIES ASK ME ANYTIME ABOUT THEM!!

you are like literally the person i want to be with the bird stuff i absolutely LOVE belted kingfishers they are so pretty. they are also one of my favorite birds (i have too many favorites i cant just pick one) but birds are so smart and their feathers are so cool like omg i love birds

im currently a small senior in highschool/sophomore in college and want more people who like birds in my life :))

anyway whats your favorite thing to study about birds? mine is how smart they are but also like how bluejays have the feathers that reflect the sun to show the blue :))

let me preface all of this with saying that while a lot of my experience with birds and learning about birds has been in a classroom setting i've also spent *checks watch* three summers now (including this upcoming one) doing field work working almost exclusively with birds in the midwest united states, so honestly a lot of the things i've learned have been incidental knowledge i've obtained working in the field. i'm not an *expert*, i just have a BS in environmental science and a lot of birding experience.

full slapshod essay rant of me going on about birds (edit: i just reread it and good GOD i went on for a while) of me talking about birds below the cut bc i already know this is gonna be far too long but you asked about my favorite thing in the world so this is on you my friend (affectionate)

i'm definitely ENRAPTURED with how smart birds are. They're so fucking intelligent it's almost scary.

since you brought em up imma talk about bluejays first!! i did part of a project my last year of college on bluejays!!

blue jays will often mimic the calls of other birds, esp predators like red-tailed hawks, with such accuracy that even bird id apps like Merlin (shameless plug) will mistake a mimicking bluejay for a real red-tailed. when i was doing audio surveys for northern bobwhites we had to have a separate training day where the only thing we focused on was how to tell if a mockingbird / thrasher / blue jay was mimicking the distinct bobwhite call and how that wasn't to be counted as a sighting.

(in my experience a lot of it has to do with pitch, repetition, and completion of what's considered the 'full song' of the NOBO, since a lot of mimids won't do the 'full song' and will just handpick bits to weave into the rest of their noises. bluejays especially will do this. mockingbirds will sometimes do the full song, but NOBOs have a pretty measurable repetition gap between their songs, at least in the areas we were doing surveys).

i remembered learning in a class that some bluejays will find bird feeders and spy on them, then mimic red-tailed and red-shouldered hawk calls to get the other birds to scatter, so they can then fly down and eat without having to fight for the tastiest bits.

when i was working with birds over the summer, one of the things we did was setting ground traps for mourning doves so they could be banded and then tracked for hunter take (they're a game species in my state). there were always blue jays in those traps. they're so fascinating to see up close, with their heavy bills and tough little feet and they're so full of rage. and they're loud.

also the thing about their FEATHERS - YES. it fucked me up to learn blue jays are naturally brown. iirc it has to do with the way the barbs on their feathers are put together with modified cells, which scatter the light in a special way to make them appear blue. If you get a bluejay feather in your hand it's only blue at certain angles and the undersides are almost usually completely brown unless you hold them in the light just so.

blue jays are part of the family Corvidae so it makes sense why they're so smart, in the family with other birds like ravens and crows.

my favorite thing to study about birds??? hoooooo boy what a question. everything?? is everything an option??

habitat effects on population size and habitat selection at the individual level is fascinating. i've done a lot of work with population studies, basically doing audio-visual surveys (point counts) of how many of x and y and z target species live in this area at a given point in time, then using that data to extrapolate potential population numbers in an area as narrow as a few square miles and as wide as the whole state (i worked for the state department of natural resources so we were focused only on our state obv).

in that effort, using that information to both directly and indirectly learn what environmental factors affect which bird species and how was so so interesting to me, and some of them are things so small we don't even think about them sometimes!! if there's as few as a handful of pine/cedar/evergreen trees in a field or grassland, you're far more likely to find cedar waxwings and indigo buntings, and you rarely see them in areas dominated by deciduous trees. red-winged blackbirds love wetlands, and while they aren't (iirc) specifically wetland-dependent, something as small as a single pond is enough to attract them in droves.

behavior is also such a cool topic to me, which i've learned more and more about just by birdwatching and attending bird-related conferences and working with wildlife biologists.

birds like the brown creeper are bark foragers that almost exclusively move upwards along a tree. they'll start at the bottom and move up, and once they reach a point they deem 'too high', they'll fly to the bottom of the next tree and move up. conversely, birds like nuthatches, still bark foragers, almost exclusively move down trees in the same way - they'll start at the top, forage downwards, and when they reach the bottom, they'll fly back to the top and do it again.

the yellow-bellied sapsucker (woodpecker family), as the name implies, eats a lot of sap, so they drill holes into a tree, like woodpeckers do, but they lay them down in 'bands' that run horizontally around the tree, often with multiple rows on top of each other, leading to a grid-like pattern of shallow holes only an inch or two apart from each other. that's often the best way to figure out where to look for sapsuckers when you're birding!! (apart from actually seeing or hearing the little guy, obv.)

incidentally, i learned that it's really really hard to put backpack trackers on henslow's sparrows, not bc they're so small and hard to catch, but because they're smart enough to realize there's a thing on their back and will, somehow, pull the backpack around to their front and completely mangle it beyond repair, and that's before they chew it off.

god i could go on forever. kestrels. ospreys. owls. nightjars. songbirds. fisherbirds. albatrosses. puffins. kinglets. sparrows. starlings. they're all so good and perfect and wonderful and fascinating and if i could learn everything about all of them forever i would.

in an extremely roundabout way of answering your question, if you're still reading and haven't run for the hills yet, i can't pick just one thing to call my favorite to learn about birds. everything about them is so interesting and makes me so excited to learn and see and talk about.
