So many things to say regarding the end of this arc of Bungou Stray Dogs but this is what I want to share the most, because I have been saving this for months

Don't forget, the ride is not over ...
I didn't the anime was going to overtake the manga, I was so surprised but oh boy what a ride to get here, so much pain
#bungou stray dogs#bsd#osamu dazai#chuuya nakahara#fukuzawa#mori ogai#tanizaki junichirou#kunikida doppo#ranpo edogawa#atsushi nakajima#bungou stray dogs season 4 spoilers#bungou stray dogs season 5 spoilers#Bungou stray dogs manga spoilers#I think nobody die ... except on the side of the “bad guys”#or I can't remember#I am bit sad that we didn't loose at least one of the “good” character because it feels like there are no consequences to this#I mean there is consequences on the world and the characters ...#but I would have like to feel that there has been looses and sacrifices to get there even if Fukuchi was doing this for peace#My point is a bit messy maybe I ll re-do it later but I hope you get what I mean

bsd showing character growth by giving people more friends and or gay rivals/partners and showing character decline by taking away their friends and or gay rivals/partners is immensely funny to me.
#akutagawa becoming less terrible being him having gay moments with atsushi and being actually shown interacting with gin that one time#vs fukuchi breaking up with his bf to go to war and then losing each of the hunting dogs in turn#tachihara and jouno by outright betrayal. tecchou by? passive betrayal? i guess. i mean he gives up the cause for the sake of his missing b#teruko is the exception but shes not seen interacting w him and the conversation they had in the airport is only given to us by her summary#ALSO#'hes the one thats alone because akutagawa came' is the quote ever atsushi i love you#anyway contrast this to fyodor who is eternally alone and refuses to connect with his allies. and starts evil stays evil#bsd is so scrumptious bro everything abt it has me bouncing off the walls#bungou stray dogs#akutagawa ryuunosuke#HELP WAIT I JUST REREAD THIS AFTER POSTING WHY DOES THE FYODOR TAG SOUND SO MEAN😭😭 friendless immoral loser🙄🙄 HELPPPPP

what the actual hell was that epilogue
#i have mixed feelings on the episode in general#chuuya being in control the whole time kinda makes sense bc of the powers of the hat#i was starting to wonder if they’d just kinda forgotten about it or something#but it’s weird af that all of dazai’s wounds just vanished except his leg being in a brace#teruko killing fukuchi was extremely satisfying personally i loved that#but what about sigma hello are we just leaving him there??#like yosano should theoretically be able to help him but clearly they forgot she exists she was the only agency member that didn’t get shown#and once again. what the fuck was going on in that epilogue.#was that necessary to be tacked on it kinda ruined the vibe#and also didn’t explain anything like why wasn’t akutagawa a vampire anymore#anyway…#max is speaking#bsd#bsd spoilers

Watching through bsd season 5 again and I just realized that Jouno allows Tecchou to stab him
He can so easily avoid it.
But he allows it.
#Jouno has the ability to dissolve parts of him into dust#so no blade can really ever hit him#except the fight with Fukuchi but that’s different#but Tecchou keeps stabbing Jouno every time he gets sadistic#AND JOUNO LETS HIM#kind of gay#just sayin#jouno saigiku#tecchou suehiro#istg my second watch through had just made me appreciate some of these duos more#first watch through I barely looked at the hunting dogs other than being like ‘whoa cool’

Do you have any bsd hot takes or any popular ships you don’t like
Oooooooh I love this question!! BSD hot takes are my specialty so I’m just gonna rapid fire some with zero elaboration
• Saying that Dazai hasn’t changed is a fundamental misunderstanding of his character, as well as the major themes of the manga. This shouldn’t even be a subject that’s up for debate
• As for ships, I temporarily really disliked Soukoku but it’s grown on me again. I think my most controversial shipping takes would be that I really dislike FukuMori and Atsulucy
• I wish people talked about the Hunting Dogs more!! Like their actual characters, not just simping or ships (not that there’s anything wrong with those things ofc). Jouno specifically is soooooooo interesting to me
• Dazai being suicidal is another subject that shouldn’t be up for debate. Saying he’s not because “his attempts always fail” or “he wants to live” is a horrific misunderstanding of how suicide ideation works
• The reason Atsushi doesn’t feel like the protagonist is because most of the light novel content focuses on the supporting cast, which then gets integrated into the show and gives Dazai more screen time. Reading the manga by itself, Atsushi actually has quite a bit of screen time and development. There are also two light novels focused on him so like,,,yeah
• I’m sorry but it will always be WEIRD to me how many fans switched up on Mori when Yosano’s backstory got animated. It’s fine to like him ofc but why are ppl allergic to focusing on the female characters
• The plot is very straightforward ya’ll it’s like one of the most basic plot structures of all time. Stop acting like it’s impossible to comprehend
• It’s also WEIRD to me how so many fans deny Higuchi being abused by Akutagawa. We see him hit and berate her multiple times, these are textbook examples of abuse. Especially within a professional relationship like theirs that has a power imbalance…again, no idea why this is even a debate
• Look personally. PERSONALLY. I do think Mori is intended to be a pedo. I know a lot of people probably just rolled their eyes so I want to clarify that I have read every analysis you’re about to recommend me that says otherwise. I see that perspective, however it really seems to me that people are doing mental gymnastics to deny the obvious. Again this is just my interpretation so pls lower your guns
• I fucking love Fukuchi he’s one of my favorite antagonists
• Nikolai is queercoded
• I so desperately wish we got more focus on Gin. What we have on her is already so compelling and I would love for Asagiri to flesh her out more
• “Dazai leaving the mafia was a good thing that ultimately saved his life” and “It is rational that Chuuya would be upset over his partner abandoning him with no explanation” are two sentiments that can and should coexist
• Not really a hot take but the Buraiha Trio is my favorite dynamic in the series. I need an entire spin off that’s just them meeting up at Bar Lupin except nothing bad ever happens
• Oda’s death scene is one of the most impactful moments from anything I’ve ever watched or read. It genuinely changed my outlook on life
• And on that note, The Dark Era is my favorite thing to come out of BSD
• It shouldn’t be controversial to say that Dazai was abused by Mori. Not physical or sexual like a lot of fans suggest but child endangerment and manipulation are definitely at play here. Mori’s actions in the Dark Era should be considered an act of abuse on their own
• I don’t care much for The Guild as a whole but the individual characters are super compelling!! Fitzgerald’s comeback is one of my favorite parts of the series and I absolutely adore Louisa, Lucy, Poe, Margaret, and Mark. I hate Nathaniel tho
• I do believe that Ranpo is autistic coded due to Untold Origins, however a lot of fans get very stereotypical and weird with that headcanon. I don’t see that as often now as I used to but it’s still a thing to some degree
• Most fans only look at half of Dazai and Akutagawa’s arc together and completely ignore how it was pointed out to us that Dazai is trying to show Aku the light and make him stronger by pairing him up with Atsushi. He hasn’t stopped training him, he’s just doing so from a distance now because he’s aware he caused Aku a lot of trauma. Not saying their dynamic is entirely positive, but it has changed. There was a whole chapter to point this out!! But people exclusively look at every scene with them through a negative light and it leads to the fandom undermining the development we see from both of them
• Oh and btw, Akutagawa and Atsushi’s partnership is amazing. I’m a big AtsuAku shipper but setting romance aside completely, I love seeing their characters interact. Their banter is so funny and omg the mutual respect between them??? The parallels between their arcs??? The way they help each other grow??? Absolutely fantastic, Asagiri ate with that. I must confess I like them way more then Dazai and Chuuya as a duo
• All these male partnership duos and not a single one for the women, c’mon Asagiri😔 Give us a toxic lesbian pair (I would say Higugin but technically Gin’s partner is Tachihara so they don’t count)
• Kyouka is easily the most underrated character in the series. She’s incredibly well-written and, not to mention, one of the main characters. We see her more than Chuuya and Poe but do people talk about her more than Chuuya and Poe??? No, my baby gets ignored. Sad times we’re living in
• I do believe in the whole “abuse cycle/web” concept, however there is also a healing cycle that is far more important to the story and I hate seeing fans overlook that
• Dazai’s talk with Kyouka at the end of The Guild arc is one of my absolute favorite scenes from the manga and I wish people talked about it more
• Fans joke a lot about Atsushi calling Dazai a good person but I do genuinely believe Asagiri wants us to think of him that way. He is morally gray for sure, but currently he is dedicating his life to saving others, therefore most people in-universe would consider him good. His past actions don’t matter to the every day people he saves on a daily basis. Imo this line was an attempt to challenge what we generally consider to be a “good” person
• To elaborate on that, it directly parallels the scene at the beginning of Dead Apple where Atsushi points out that Dazai is visiting a grave. “Do I look like someone visiting a grave to you?” “Yeah, you do” / “Do I look like a good person to you?” “Yeah, you do.” Atsushi was right the first time, so I believe he was intended to be right the second was well. Why else call back to it???
• Tbh it is objectively hilarious that Dazai doubts himself being a good person directly after saving the city. I understand why but like…sir, cut yourself some slack
• I think the fanon family dynamics are super cute but people should be able to acknowledge that a lot of them aren’t canon (besides, like, Fukuzawa and Ranpo or Bram and Aya). Ranpo and Yosano’s canon relationship is best friends, you can absolutely view them as siblings but don’t treat it like a canon fact
• Yk that post that said “Who the hell gets into bsd and looks for a healthy ship?? Take your sensitive ass back to Haikyuu” ? Yeah. I second that
• As an OCD-er myself I am TIRED of people calling Kunikida OCD. Yes I’ve written him that way before but it’s another thing that people treat as canon which it just…no, that’s not what OCD looks like😭 I could see OCPD or autism tho
• Yes, Kouyou abused Kyouka. Yes, Kouyou cares very deeply about Kyouka. Both of these statements can coexist. Every decision Kouyou makes is motivated by what would be best for Kyouka and if you don’t get that then you won’t understand her character very well
• I want to see Dazai and Kenji interact. Asagiri please
• Since I mentioned Kenji I wanna point out smth very weird I’ve noticed where, when people bring up healthy bsd ships, they tend to only mention the straight ones??? Even if it’s a mischaracterization or the characters have never interacted. It gives me a very weird vibe
• I think Tecchou and Jouno should kiss each other
• Fyodor is probably my favorite antagonist, the chapter with him and Ace is one of my favorites. He’s a good parallel for Dazai and I just love his whole aesthetic. I love the Decay of Angels as a whole, all of them. I’ll also note that his fans seem to understand the manga very well so shoutout Fyodor fans
• Tachihara has an amazing character arc and I hate that the anime cut it out
• Higuchi is so…ugh I love her to death. Her character is the perfect mix of comic relief and tragedy. I once saw someone point out that it’s nice how Asagiri is able to use her for humor without making the jokes misogynistic and I fully agree (although I do have some qualms abt Aku hitting her being used as a joke in that one bonus page). And her finding her place in the mafia, realizing how important she is to the people who work for her???? I adore her, I hope she gets a satisfying ending
• Higugin has so much potential to be explored in fanon and I hate how they always get reduced to the token fluffy wlw ship or how some ppl only like them for the aesthetic. Give me angst!!! Give me toxic doomed yuri!!! Or give me death!!!
• I really like Fukuzawa’s backstory and want to see more of it
• I’ve seen a lot of interesting headcanons for Dazai’s mental health status, and a lot of them feel realistic, but personally I think he’s very obviously intended to have MDD. Nothing wrong with other headcanons ofc, I’ve written him many different ways, but I think since a lot of people downplay the severity of depression, they overlook that option when trying to psychoanalyze severely mentally ill characters
• The light novels have some of the best bsd content and more fans should read them
• I don’t like the “all lesbians love Chuuya” jokes because I am a lesbian and I’m not down bad for him. Do I love him?? Yes. But not in a simp way. He’s more like my gay brother
• Speaking of which- I do really like the gay hc for Chuuya and the bi hc for Dazai but I wish fans weren’t so afraid to step out of the established box!! Nothing is fully confirmed guys, we can headcanon them as whatever we want. Let’s get creative with it
• I wish more fans humanized Yosano the way they do with the male characters. We see from her backstory how much being out on a pedestal hurt her and so it just seems weird that she’s upheld as this flawless girlboss. Yes, she’s a totally badass and a hottie and I love that but there is so much more to her. She has her weak moments just like every other character, and she has such an incredible arc
• On that note I hope everybody who told me Mori is more interesting than her dies in a fire (I’m joking) (ik how Mori fans like to tussle)
• I happen to really like both the Tanizaki siblings. Actually that’s a lie I used to hate Junichirou. I can’t remember why, I think I just found him annoying. No idea what my current opinion is but now I feel kinda bad for hating him so I’ll say I like him now
• Idk why ppl get so pissed when you suggest that Dazai self-harms like. Okay fine ik it’s not fully confirmed that that’s what the bandages are for. But let’s use our brains for a second…
• Ango did nothing wrong
I could go on but this is already absurdly long (edit: cannot believe that autocorrected to wrong, I have never been wrong about anything in my life) so I’m gonna end it on that doorknob confession. I miss my bsd hyperfixation sometimes, the TikTok fandom got on my nerves but it truly is one of my favorite series ever. And not JUST because of Dazai, clearly I have a lot of thoughts on everything about it lol

The thing is Fyodor could’ve had Atsushi in his grasp before the series even began.
That’s without question no one else knew who or where Atsushi was until he showed up in Yokohama at 18 years old. While Fyodor has known about Atsushi, his ability and his location at minimum since he was 12. Because that’s when Fyodor sends Shibusawa to him.
And even when Fyodor is actively having Atsushi hunted down for through things like his bounty and the Guild’s incineration plot, it feels more like a test that anything else. It’s like he’s continuing where Shibusawa left off, setting these events and observing how Atsushi will fare through them.
Ironically in a way similar to a cat playing with it’s pray.
Like I don’t think for 5 minutes that Nathaniel Hawthorne showing up on the sky casino was supposed to be a legitimate threat. Especially knowing Lucy was there and allowing himself to get caught without even fighting back.
But I don’t think he was just randomly there, he had a purpose and it was to tie a string of blood to Atsushi. In order to keep a track of him.
A moment that stands out to me is during the Hunting dogs arc when Nikolai’s fighting Atsushi and tells him ‘you’re not one of the murder targets." Because it implies to me that Atsushi’s role is different to everyone else’s. He should be with the Agency, getting framed and then going on the run but he’s not. Atsushi is down underground fighting Nikolai who just leaves him there.
And yeah Kyouka shows up to help him but the people who came to inspect that area weren’t guards or soilders but the forensics team. Meaning that Atsushi wasn’t in any real danger and for a plot like this where the Agency should have nowhere safe left to go to that is rather odd.
The only exception to this I feel is the stuff with Fukuchi because he did originally plan to kill Atsushi. The only reason he didn’t was because Akutugawa showed up but even then he tried to have him kill Atsushi. Only reason Fukuchi didn’t go after Atsushi after was because it would’ve complicated the timeline.
Feels like an outlier because all Fyodor’s plans have involved trying to capture Atsushi. Even the Guild incineration plot had them keep him safe as a prisoner. And well, Fyodor kinda needs Atsushi alive for his plans.
Hell Fyodor was in the alleyway Atsushi was walking into in the Cannablism arc. You see him turn around at hearing Atsushi’s voice and he leaves to let Atsushi discover Dazai’s body. He just leaves him alone and carries on with his plan.
All of this just reads as "I need you but not yet." There’s a plan for Atsushi alright, there’s been one going for a long time but it hasn’t come to fruition yet. Much like how the book has specific parameters of when it can be used and its conditions, Fyodor is waiting until everything is put in place to enact his grand plan.
One in which Atsushi will be the centrepiece.

An Analysis on Atsushi and his perspective of the world
I made an analysis a while ago that I'm still quite proud of so I decided to share it! I will admit I'm not the biggest fan of how I structured it but I loved how much of a deep dive I went into with Atsushi's character so I thought it's something that's worth sharing. Looking at it, it kinda just looks like a bunch of small analyses put together but I still think it's quite good.
Please note that abuse will be discussed in this and that I separate the society, morality and world of BSD from ours.
Atsushi's Relationship with Violence
Atsushi's relationship with violence has always been a key part of how he views the world. As a survivor of physical abuse who was told repeatedly by his headmaster (the person who abused him) that he was being harmed by someone who uses their strength to hurt the weak, he loathes violence, especially violence towards the innocent.
The Headmaster quite literally beat it into Atsushi that he must be someone to protect the weak. This is one of the motivators for Atsushi's incorrect (by BSD standards) view of the world. He believes he should protect weak people, because they are inherently good and must be saved from the "bad guys" (Akutagawa and the Headmaster, people who use their power and strength to take advantage of and harm others). Upon realising the strength of his tiger, Atsushi convinced himself (with some indirect help from the Headmaster) that if he does not fight to protect and control his violence, he will bring harm to everyone around him. Thus, he must go the opposite direction of ‘bad’ violence.
Akutagawa As The Exception to Atsushi's Rules
This brings us to Akutagawa. From his very first appearance, all the way to when Atsushi meets Kyouka, and through to the fight on the ship (no, not the one with Fukuchi), Akutagawa is fundamentally what Atsushi hates about violence. He is someone who is powerful and uses that power to take advantage of and hurt the weak. Akutagawa represents everything Atsushi fears becoming.
Atsushi uses violence too, however. Akutagawa and Atsushi are both people who have spent their entire lives fighting to survive, and still do, even now. They are reflective of each other, but Atsushi refuses to see himself as a violent person. Even though Atsushi needs to use that strength inside of him to protect others, he cannot bring himself to view that as necessary violence. Instead, Atsushi moves towards a life where the violence he commits is “excusable.” He was once someone who was very pacifist and hesitant to use violence, but now utilises his tiger and bloodlust as if it’s second nature (which, if you think about it, considering his tiger… it quite literally is).
Why? Because he is protecting the weak. His battle with Akutagawa on the boat woke him up to the fact that if he wants to fulfill his duty and reason for being alive (protecting those who can’t protect themselves), he will have to be violent in a way that is ‘good’ because the world of Bungou Stray Dogs requires it.
‘Good’ Violence and ‘Bad’ Violence
This understanding pushes Atsushi’s worldview into black-and-white thinking. There is “acceptable, good violence” that he inflicts on Akutagawa, and there is “unacceptable, bad violence” that he loathes himself for committing. The latter is the kind of violence that proves a person is dangerous and deserving of suffering and humiliation—things that Atsushi (and Dazai) inflict upon Akutagawa.
An aspect of Atsushi’s character arc that we see is his realisation that, in his Agency life, violence is necessary. Atsushi hates violence because he has never seen it used for good. To cope, he tries to excuse his own violence by treating it as “good” when he uses it to protect the weak, and “bad” when it is used by others, like Akutagawa, who harms those around him.
Akutagawa’s first appearance was essentially him waking Atsushi up to the violence of the real world through his (Akutagawa’s) own violence. This gives Atsushi traumatic flashbacks to his past, where the Headmaster had consistently convinced him that his treatment was to prepare him for the ‘real world’. Atsushi’s encounter with Kyouka further cements his hatred of Akutagawa, as he views him as a child abuser. This immediately convinces Atsushi that Akutagawa and the Headmaster are one and the same. Since Atsushi views the Headmaster as pure evil, he pushes that belief onto Akutagawa, seeing him as "someone bad"—someone who exists to punish and manipulate the weak with his strength and cunning.
Atsushi’s Black-and-White View of the World
Atsushi’s view of the world and of Akutagawa are challenged when Akutagawa not only succeeds in not killing, but also when he dies, forcing Atsushi to question why someone so selfish and cruel would make such a sacrifice. Atsushi’s view of others is very simplistic. He views people like Dazai, who went out of his way to help him, as completely good down to their core. During the argument with Akutagawa in the Cannibalism arc, Atsushi inadvertently excuses Dazai’s abandonment of another person, because it’s Dazai. He could never do wrong because he is a good person, and therefore incapable of bad.
Atsushi has every right to hate Akutagawa for his treatment of Kyouka, but at the same time, he ignores the moral complexity in others. He refuses to acknowledge the way Dazai treated Akutagawa or abandoned him, even though, like Akutagawa, abandonment is Atsushi’s greatest fear. Both are afraid they’ll be put aside if they don’t do what they need to do (protecting others, and killing others). Akutagawa intentionally challenges Atsushi’s view, just as Atsushi intentionally challenges Akutagawa when making the 6-month promise. They both think the other is selfish and foolish, and they’ve both proven time and time again that they’re right.
Akutagawa and Atsushi are both victims of violent abuse and abandonment by their abuser. They are both trying to measure up to constantly shifting goals and changing standards. Akutagawa even makes this comparison himself. Atsushi, on the other hand, is too afraid to make that comparison because that would mean he would be similar to somebody terrible, which shouldn’t be possible, because Akutagawa is inherently evil to his core.
The 6-Month Promise and How Atsushi Refuses to See Nuance in People
The 6-month promise Atsushi makes with Akutagawa is vital to Akutagawa’s development, but it’s also Atsushi’s attempt to convince himself that evil cannot prevail in his presence—the battle at the end of the 6 months, where he will try to beat Akutagawa—and that people like Akutagawa are incapable of change. Atsushi is sure Akutagawa won’t succeed in the 6 months, even questioning him when Akutagawa mentions it on the boat. In Portrait of a Father (the chapter where the Headmaster dies), Atsushi refuses to believe the Headmaster changed and continues to convince himself that this is the case.
Since Atsushi passively views Akutagawa as a reflection of the Headmaster, he is convinced that, like the Headmaster, Akutagawa cannot change. This is another example of Atsushi’s black-and-white view of the world. He believes people are either 100% good or 100% bad, and thus incapable of change.
Atsushi’s Fear of Becoming Like Akutagawa
Atsushi sees Akutagawa as a strong person who bullies others due to his lack of self-awareness. He fails to realise that Akutagawa is just as insecure about his own existence as he is, and that Akutagawa, like Atsushi and Kyouka, is fighting to survive. But Atsushi refuses to acknowledge this. Akutagawa is a "bad" orphan, and Atsushi was taught that bad orphans should be punished. Ipso facto, Atsushi inflicts violence and anger onto Akutagawa, a person who deserves it—‘Good’, excusable violence. Telling him that he deserved to get abandoned because he’s not good enough is exactly what the Headmaster told him over and over again.
It’s not just bickering; it’s targeted lashing out at someone Atsushi thinks is okay to lash out at because he was taught that that’s acceptable. The problem is, Atsushi refuses to admit that he sees himself in Akutagawa because doing so would mean admitting that he is a bad person and therefore deserving of abandonment.
Atsushi's Tiger: Symbolising Trauma and Violence
Atsushi's tiger symbolises his trauma, his past, and his true nature. He is a deeply violent and aggressive person, and just like the tiger’s agility, his emotions constantly shift. The weight of his past and trauma is as heavy as the burden he carries with having an uncontrollable tiger deep down, constantly trying to come out but repressed by Atsushi. Now, Atsushi uses his tiger to protect others, proving to himself that the abandonment and abuse he suffered was unjust and that he is, in fact, a good person.
If you've made it this far, thank you!!!!!!!! It's a shit load of words. I'd love some notes regarding my analysis and structure because I'm working on it in school right now and some tips would actually be pretty helpful.

Tachihara gift exchange headcanons
Port Mafia-
Mori (and Elise):
-Tachihara probably gets him a nice pen or something
-Elise gets a coloring book and a set of colored pencils and she thinks it’s way cooler than Mori’s stupid lame pen (he also gets roped into letting her put bows in his hair. Again)
- Mori gives him like a bonus or something idk I really don’t like when they interact
- Elise draws him a picture of him and Hirtosu and gin
Kouyou:
- they’re not close so he wasn’t expecting anything, but Kouyou makes little gifts for everyone every year and he didn’t have anything to give back so he made a little flower out of metal for her
Chuuya:
- wanted to get him wine but doesn’t actually know anything about alcohol. Refused to ask Hirotsu, but he ended up getting carded and having to ask anyway
- ended up with some vintage wine that chuuya had mentioned to Hirotsu from both of them
- I feel like chuuya didn’t super know what to get him so he invited him out to go drinking and hang out instead
Verlaine:
- doesn’t know him. Didn’t interact at all. A single cupcake appears on his counter one day with a note just signed ‘~v’
Akutagawa:
- Tachihara got (read: spent way to long figuring out how to make) a dessert with figs for him
- Akutagawa got him a vase of hyacinths since gin mentioned that they were his favorites
Higuchi:
- tachi got her a basket of chocolate and a bunch of rom coms and agrees to suffer through watching them with her
- Higuchi knits him a scarf and it’s kind of janky but it’s addressed to her favorite little brother and he never takes it off ever
Hirotsu:
- Tachihara and gin get him a really nice lighter that’s engraved
- Hirotsu gets Tachihara a new coat (except he low key just drags him shopping because he goes on about how important it is for him to keep warm (cuz y’know coats are important in bsd)
Gin:
- gets him the set of pencils he’s been eying every time they walk by. And a box of bandaids
- he makes them a tiny knife they can slip under a dress for missions
Q:
- most people forgot about them but he ventured down to the basement with some sweets and his old fnaf books because you can rip fnaf kid Q from my cold dead hands
- Q gives him a really ugly mug they painted with the kit chuuya gave them. It’s definitely not food safe, but he keeps pencils in it
Kajii:
- Tachihara very distantly slides him a card with a gift card for a hardware store
- Kajii gives him a gun that allegedly shoots lemon bombs except it’s bright yellow and Tachihara doesn’t know what to do with it
Hunting Dogs-
Fukuchi:
- tachi stresses over what to get him until jouno smacks him and says the captain just enjoys spending time with them (this is canon btw, he says one of his happiest memories is when all 5 of them were together)
- Fukuchi also stresses over what to get tachi bc he feels like it should be practical but doesn’t know what he’d want and low key does he even deserve to give him a gift
- Tecchou tells him Tachihara is also worried and wants to impress him
- Fukuchi takes Tachihara out to do some father-son activities and they both have a good time
Teruko:
- most of Tachihara’s budget goes to getting things for teruko (she gave the hunting dogs a Christmas list in the group chat)
- it ends up being a lot of stuffed animals and weapons from all of them
- plus a coupon for a free piggy back ride
- teruko bitches to the others because Tachihara never actually asks for anything
- she ends up getting him a new holster and tools for cleaning his guns because it’s all he fessed up to wanting (he’s very happy with it, even if teruko calls him boring)
Jouno:
- Tachihara gets him a couple records (I feel like Jouno owns a record player, sue me)
- Jouno gets him a set of ceramic dish ware because he complains Tachihara has a bunch of cheap stuff like some college freshman (to which Tachihara points out that he’s a 19 yr old middle school dropout)
- the stuffed animal Tachihara originally refused also shows up on his bed and he keeps it this time
Tecchou:
- Tecchou gets Tachihara a new sword because the grip on his was getting worn down and trains with him
- Tachihara gets Tecchou a new yoga mat and set of weights
Bonus-
- ango and Tachihara exchange respectful Christmas cards
- Yosano gets a dead fish wrapped in newspaper on her doorstep, but it’s preserved in the snow and she assumes that it was from Kenji and takes it as a gift
- a bouquet of purple flowers is laid on a lone grave. The cold wind blows, and it almost feels like someone ruffling his hair

I desperately need Asagiri to write a novel about Hunting Dogs. Except there's no backstories there's no angst it's just the same vibe as the day before Atsushi's entrance exam novel. It's 150 pages worth of Jouno trying to get Fukuchi to sign a restrictive order to ban Tetchou from cooking, it's Teruko on Tachihara's shoulders inviting Suegiku to a 2v2 duel, it's just them trying to get their paperwork done and failing miserably.

Their ability together is something to behold. Total control. An absolutely terrifying trio. Add Dazai and it's a full set. They'd be a legendary four of Yokohama. The death four (and, optionally, life. Or vice versa).
And really Mori had a chance to get them all together. He and Fukuchi might have traveled roughly the same path in the war. At least both have been to the island, and ±Kansai, where Teruko is from and where she was “found”, could have been on their retreat path (ch 115). Mori could have picked her up, too. Except that's where the “real story” of the writers' acquaintances and mutual influences and Asagiri's plot intervened. And Mori's a doctor, you know? Imagine if Fukuchi had said, “Come with me, I'll save you” and then Mori, out of nowhere: "Well, lie down where you lied, girl, I'm a doctor. And where did YOU even study to help the wounded! Go boil some water, you fucking shit."
They could be either mafia or a team of gifted psychotherapists - a light AU like that, where the mafia doesn't exist at all, it was wiped out before Mori became boss, dunno, if the predecessor fucked up harder, Taneda picked up Rando, and the new detective agency got involved. Teruko was picked up by Mori at the end of the war, he quickly studied as a psychiatrist out of guilt for Yosano, found her (in that clinic. or not), Dazai and Q came from there a little while later... But, Natsume still needs a third part for his concept - an organization that can actually control the underworld, so Mori starts a new mafia, starting with underground medical facilities
Have you ever tried to imagine ada!Kouyou?! I'm still wondering what kind of clothes she would wear and how the hakama is arranged 🤯😵💫
Did you ever think that the very first double black could have been Natsume and Hirotsu!!!! So many possibilities!
Natsume was mentoring irl Teruko for a while.
Mori and Yosano's hairstyle differs only in the bangs, basically
Teruko and Q! (Don't mind me, I'm just reading psychology articles trying to understand Q and "can mental disorders, that presumably arose from something early in life, be healed if you use Teruko's ability on a person for a long time, fixing all fuck-ups?". They're also a bit alike. Can Yosano cure brain disorders related specifically to chemicals involved in metabolic processes, hormones and so on? I don't think so. But if the disorder is caused by physical trauma, can she? It's a very complicated question...
