the fool in reverse: so, I actually just pulled this one for my last reading, shuffled the deck for a minute or two and pulled the same card for you. crazy how fate works! this is a major arcana symbolizing significant beginnings and new journeys. the universe is giving you the gift of entering a new life stage, brimming with excitement and opportunity. reversed, it can mean that you may not feel totally ready to take on a new life journey. you may feel unworthy of new opportunities or may be wasting them away (“acting the fool”) without taking them seriously. when this card appears, it reminds us to grab hold of whatever chances we get to make our life something entirely new. be curious, be open minded, and know that the universe would only present you with these new opportunities if you were totally ready to take them on.

Paul Laurence Dunbar (poem) and Maya Angelou (autobiography), wrote their pieces separately; however, they will forever be intertwined. Folks often mixup the titles and works. Dunbar’s poem, “Sympathy”—published in 1899, is often referred to as “Caged Bird”. Maya Angelou, after reading “Sympathy”, years before writing her novel—connected with the “caged bird”, and its symbolism. So much so, that she took a line from Dunbar’s “Sympathy”, and entitled her autobiography: “I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings”, published in 1969. As shared before, I know what it feels like to either lose—or, not have a voice. I’ll never, ever allow anyone to squeeze me into a place where I am mute—voiceless.
