July LU Write-a-Thon: 351,092 Words in One Day!

On July 1, we hosted our second monthly LU Write-a-thon (organized by @not-freyja and @hotcheetohatredwastaken and joined by their new mods @noorahqar, @a-manicured-lawn, and @winterfen). The purpose of this event was to write as many productive words—words that furthered yourself, the LU writing community at large, or your own stories—within 24 hours as humanly possible. 

We had a whopping 90+ participants as opposed to our previous 16 - none of us expected such a large turnout, and were suitably unprepared 😅 We’ll definitely be making a lot of changes to accommodate that many people during the next Write-a-Thon, occurring August 1st. Thank you all for your patience!

But, until next month, here’s the awards and titles earned by each participant, as voted upon by the Discord server through an anonymous survey. The mods read through all your hundreds of submissions (thank you guys so much!) and picked either the highest voted title or the funniest custom submission for each person, as we found appropriate. First up is the winner’s circle, then the clubs, and then everybody else in alphabetical order right below this readmore!

The Winner’s Circle (5 Most Wordiest)

20,037 “Writer of All Time” and “Most Likely to Make 1K become 100K” (As can be seen in all its glory in your Aspects AU) @tashacee: You took advantage of Freyja and Cheeto’s beefing about who would be first and snapped up the win right from under their noses. Well played! 

20,011 “Writer of Some of the Time” and “Pen and Paper (Scritch... Scratchy?)” @hotcheetohatredwastaken: Missed the mark by juuust a bit, for the second time in a row. Cheeto, you suck. (:3 –Cheeto) (Qar wrote this, for reference!). Also wrote for most of the marathon on pen and paper!

17,491 “Writer of Last Time” (for winning last month and then failing to defend their title) and “The FourShadow-er of all Time” (for the unholy amount of Chekov’s Guns they leave lying around loaded in their docs) @not-freyja: you are the most autistic about Legend. Nerd.

13,203 “Will Make You Cry” and “Captain of the Twilight Angst Tag on Ao3” @somer-writes: Boosting the Twilight economy, and we’re all happy about it. Also the second-funniest person in the server, with the second-most stars!

13,000 “AU Collector” and “Four Enjoyer” @zarvasace: Whether they're heroes with disabilities, space rangers, or vampires, if Mina wrote it, the boys will be written well.

Now while everyone’s accomplishments as individuals were nothing to sneeze at, teamwork does in fact make the dream work. A few lovely people made a couple of equally lovely groups, either by their own choice or as assigned by peer review.

When i was a teenager i had this phase where i was OBSESSED with, like, walking like an ape for some reason (???) and i'd spend HOURS UPON HOURS watching videos of chimps and bonobos and try to walk the way they do.

Hi.

My name is Fourshadow, and I'm a mutant. Or a magician. Or something.

Obviously, Fourshadow's not my real name. It's my... I dunno, my superhero name? My pagan name? My internet handle? Fuck, I dunno what to call it. It's my "I don't wanna be doxxed by supervillains or have my loved ones threatened" name.

I'm writing this blog as sort of a journal. If I were an old-school occultist, I'd call this a digital "Book of Shadows" or something. Which, tbh, is probably a reasonable title. Maybe I'll add that into the blog description.

It's really more of a record of things that have been happening, because at this point, I need to talk about it *somewhere* or I'm going to lose my mind.

So, for starters, if you meet me and think you know what I look like, no you don't. Part of the fun of my "magical powers" is the ability to glamour myself, so I end up looking how I want to look most of the time. Which is a good thing, since usually I look like... well...

A beast.

Don't get me wrong- I'm a HOT beast. Like, furries and monsterfuckers beware!

But yeah, what else do you call a big furry blue cat person with horns and big feathered black wings? Oh and dragon scales, and my eyes kinda glow.

The thing is, this is new to me. Believe it or not, I wasn't born with it, and it's not Maybelline.

I always thought of myself as a normal guy- maybe a little spooky and goth, but otherwise normal. I like music, I like reading, and I have an interest in the occult.

And now, I'm starting to realize that the occult has an interest in me too.

directors cut on LMTCOY Four s'il vous plaît😭🙏I love him so much

LMTCOY Four is asexual. Whenever I write him in this story is when handfuls of apologetic complaints and the occasional death threat show up in my inbox. It's super fun and makes writing him so rewarding for me. /sarcasm

Anyway, fuck the haters. Four was an ancillary character to the LMTCOY series all up until Twilight and Dark got together, unlocking a whole 'nother half of the cast that I'd never considered before. Four shows up more often now thanks to Shadow's involvement with Dark. Four and Shadow met one another well before the events of HSH, and Shadow knows more about Four than he'd want any of the roommates to know about him. Their relationship hinges on playful antagonism that sometimes doesn't seem so playful. Four has to play fucking 4D chess anytime he wants to get anything from Shadow (e.g. don't give him your real ice pop flavor preference).

Still, there are hints that their relationship toes the line of what would be considered strictly platonic. Although maybe it's all in the others' heads. From the first part of the Igneous Voe chapter:

The blonde behind the ticketing counter [Four] regarded Time from the corner of his eye. He sat cross-legged on one of the rocks, elbows resting on his knees as he slouched forward. A hand-rolled spliff twitched on his lips. He turned away and leaned in, in, in until his cigarette met the lit end of his companion’s, who was a veritable carbon copy of himself. The other young man’s black hair brushed just above his shoulders and was held back with a similar headband.  Four’s eyes slipped closed as the two of them inhaled together. Warm embers grew between them, eating away at tobacco and paper much faster than if they weren’t pressed together. Neither of them touched the other, and still Time felt like he should look away. 

I have a lot of fun being nonspecific about the nature of Four's relationship with Shadow, so don't expect any firm calls in that arena.

Although asexual, Four is not strictly sex-repulsed. He's averse to physical touch in most encounters, which makes intimacy challenging, but he does let down his walls in certain circumstances and only for those he really, deeply trusts. And Shadow, despite ragging on him in so many other ways, respects this, because he has some insight into why. So far it's best shown in the LMTCOY vampire AU, Blood Lust, where Four acts as Shadow's bleeder.

[Four] breathed through the pain, feeling his pulse thrumming in his skull, in the side of his throat, as Shadow’s lips closed against his skin. That was the part that always made him resist the urge to squirm away each time. When the strings of Shadow’s hoodie slid down and tapped Four’s bare shoulder, he flinched. Shadow reached down right away to retrieve the errant cords and tuck them into the neck of his clothes. Other than his lips and teeth, nothing else of Shadow touched him, not even the strands of his hair, not the whisper of breath. Four could feel the weight of him on the bed, and that was enough. 

Four is indirectly involved with Dark, Twilight, and Shadow in a later chapter of LMTCOY in which, as Miniscrew so brilliantly pointed out, Dark outsources dom duty to Shadow because he's just not interested to do it. Four would normally never get roped into Shadow's side gig like this, but it's their friends, and Four is a little worried about Twilight getting in over his head, even if he'd never admit as much aloud. Shadow goes as far as to block Four's view, assuming that Twilight and Dark's 'finale' isn't something Four would be interested in witnessing.

But maybe Shads was wrong in that. There is a follow-up chapter I toy with now and then that gives our favorite mechanic the chance to get a little bit more... involved, we'll say, with their friends.

“I think I want to touch your dick.” It was one of those statements that Four blurted out of nowhere. They happened now and then, usually after hours to days of pensive silence while he turned something over in his mind. Sometimes he waited for an opportune moment to bring up such things. Others, well… On the other side of the couch, Dark choked on his beer mid-swig. He set the bottle back down on the coffee table and turned away from the others, coughing loudly into his elbow. To Four’s left and seated in the armchair, Shadow mumbled an oath under his breath as he set his controller down in his lap and put his head in his hands. He had known something was up—Four had been ‘off’ for days now—but gods above, he didn’t think it was that. Twilight, seated on the center couch cushion, was the only one who thought to pause their game. He turned to look at Four, who was staring directly at him. Twilight’s eyes were bright and questioning and clueless. “I’m sorry, who were you—” “You,” Four answered simply. “Oh.” Twilight blinked. Next to him, Dark slowly sat back on the couch, a sly smile on his face as he looked between the awkward pair. “I think I want to touch your dick,” Four reiterated. Simple, direct, leaving no room for question.  “Oh, sweet Lolia,” Shadow muttered, tossing his controller aside as he stood and retreated toward the kitchen. “No!!” Dark barked, picking up one of his discarded socks from the floor and whipping it in Shadow’s direction. “You get back here!! We’re gonna discuss this together! Like a family!!”

When it gets finished and published depends on how involved I get in the, uh, events that follow. And this in no way erases Four's asexuality. But I think that he deserves to explore sex if he wants to, both in his own time and in his own way, with people that he trusts.

His avatar was thrown into the air and had his head ripped off. Match over. “Fucking fucker fuck-! What are you talking about? Who the hell is Bram Stoker?”

Shadow sighed disappointedly. “C’mon man. Aren’t you old guys supposed to be all cultured and shit? What have you been doing for the last few centuries? Other than not setting up a stock portfolio.”

“Can you get off my back about that already?”

“You’re a million years old and you work for minimum wage, dude. There’s living in your parents basement until you're forty, and then there's whatever you’re doing.”

The character select menu opened up and Dark quickly switched to someone else. That other one was useless. He’d pick someone with a shit ton of fire power this time. He needs to take Shadows head off. The little shit has been getting a bit too smug recently. “I’ve been busy. Mostly trying to survive. Drinking myself to undeath. A few crusades. You know, the usual.”

Shadow clicked his tongue. “And yet you don’t know the father of all erotic vampire lore.”

Dark pried his eyes off the screen to stare at the younger vampire. “What?”

“Bram Stoker wrote Dracula, you uncultured heathen.” Shadow rolled his eyes at Dark’s confusion. “How did you not know that? This is like a Hylian not knowing about Hylia. Or a basic bitch not knowing about pumpkin spice lattes-”

“What the hell are you talking about? Erotic vampire lore? What?”

“Think about it,” Shadow started, eyes glowing in the darkness of his apartment. “Stoker wrote the original broody, sexy vampire, right? Rich guy in a castle with hot vampire babes and a ‘take you passionately’ attitude? All the forebringers of modern cliches. His work inspired future film adaptations that have dark, alluring men pulling unsuspecting victims into their thrall. He took vampires from some ugly monsters in dark alleys into gracious counts with depth and sex appeal.”

“And your point is…?” Dark turned his head back to the game. While he listened to Shadows horrible reasoning his on-screen counterpart met his bloody demise.

Shadow grinned mischievously. “I’m saying that you owe him big time. You do know that the only reason you’re getting laid these days is because of him, right?”

“I’d ask you to elaborate but I really don’t want you to.”

“Well you know how Twi is into the whole vampire thing, right?”

“Yes I do. And I regret telling you about that every single day,” Dark sighed.

Shadow stuck his tongue out. “Right, well. Why do you think he’s into it?”

Dark side eyed his friend. He's not happy about the way Shadow smiles like a shark smelling blood. “Don’t-”

“Because of decades of sexy vampire lore - because of Bram Stoker! He’s the daddy of sexy vampires. He’s your daddy.”

“Stop talking to me.” Dark groans. “Stop talking in general holy shit. I’m going to kill you-”

Shadow giggles like the insane demon he is. He sits up fully, barely paying attention to the TV but still managing to kill Dark’s avatar with ease. “Don't get upset now. I’m just pointing out a fact.”

Dark cursed as his character was ripped in half brutally. Fatality. “Fuck this game! Piece of shit-! And I’m not the only vampire here, asshole. Whatever messed up logic you’re applying to me can be said for your bleeder, too.”

Shadow rolls his eyes. “Oh, please. Rain doesn’t care about that stuff. He does it because despite whatever he might say, I’m his favorite person. He’d feed me no matter what. But you, unlike me, have no redeeming qualities. So your only chance at getting some is to be someone's personal spank bank fantasy.”

Dark cracked his knuckles. Fuck doing this virtually. “You know what? I’m going to rip your head off.”

Shadow smirked. “If you think that’ll shut me up then you’re in for a surprise.”

So I was googling because I was wondering when vampires turned sexy and it was around the time of Dracula in the late 1800s. There were a few foreign novels too. Before that they were depicted as purely demonic and evil. So I figured that would be a fun lil factoid to write about. Especially when I thought about how old Dark might be and how if he predates Dracula then he’d have been around when vampires were only seen as monsters. No wonder he was so surprised Twilight didn’t outright reject him.

"Why?" - yellow x blue fanfic

Blue was cozy in his bed, he had a long day testing new potions and tidying up his plantation. And there was no better time than now to sleep for who knows how many hours he wanted. But this would be another one of several nights that instead of sleeping, he would have to comfort someone.

He hears the door creaking, someone had opened it to the sounds of slow footsteps. Blue yawns slowly opening ther eyes and turning on the bed towards the door to see Ther friend Yellow, in which they were with one hand on the doorknob and a deep and almost empty gaze.

Blue blinks for a few seconds and rubs ther eyes while sitting on the soft surface of the bed. "Yellow, let me guess..." He pauses to look now at his friend's state, in which he rubbed one hand with the other nervously. "Nightmare?" He ends the question, Yellow just nods without saying anything. Blue sighs opening a sympathetic smile and snuggling a corner next to him for Yellow to sit down. "ok..." He pauses looking to the side and looks at his partner, "same as always..?" He questions, Yellow nods. Blue frowns and puts a hand on his friend's shoulder, a rosy color appears on Yellow's cheeks, Blue's smile was comforting to them. "Okay, do you want to talk about it or do you want to sleep?" He asks in a playful tone, the companion chuckles softly, "you're an idiot..." Yellow said with just a little more comfort. Blue could see the dark circles under his friend's eyes, they don't usually sleep, it's very rare for that to happen. Blue yawns and lays his head on the pillow making room for His partner. Yellow excites but lies down beside him, pulling their knees up to their stomachs.

Yellow tries to turn around but is surprised by Blue's hug. Yellow's cheeks turn pink with embarrassment, the Stickman they loved was hugging them. Yellow itself turns towards blue to meet their eyes, They always felt comfortable around blue, even though they knew about each other's feelings, they prefer to remain platonic but sometimes it's hard to resist the temptation to Cuddle them, From kissing them or just holding their gentle hands... "just sleep Yelly..." Blue says in a soft tone, stroking yellow's head as their foreheads meet their partner's chest. Yellow calmly closes his eyes, listening to his friend's heartbeat, a small smile forms on his face until he falls asleep. Blue sighs in relief still hugging them, he covers them with a blanket and affectionately kisses Yellow's forehead, "good night and have better dreams..." He pauses looking He pauses looking at them with a look of pure love and affection, "I love you..." He says whispering not to wake them up, sleeping next to Yellow.

The next day, Blue would wake up first to take care of his little farm. Yellow woke up a few hours later already missing his friend's affection. They look out the bedroom window, seeing Blue picking wheat and carrots like he always does. They smile seeing this but soon his expression changes to one of guilt.

So they who chose not to hold on to a serious relationship, they who said to wait for the right moment, they were slowing this relationship down, it's keeping it on ice and not making the move. They love him! More than anything. And they know he loves them too! Why Yellow? Why did you have to go with the mindset that you weren't ready??

Yellow never cried, they don't show their emotions in an obvious way, and sometimes hide to maintain a persona of a logical genius, but their feelings can't be kept in a locked chest. One day he would take the relationship seriously, one day... But why not now? Why not tomorrow? Why... Are they... afraid? Afraid of... Not being good enough for blue...? Is that why they don't follow through with a serious relationship? When did they finally get together??

Yellow wipes her tears and leaves the room, returning to their lab on their own.
