Fun Physics Experiments for Kids in Topsy-Turvy Town
By Alice Everything started when Fluffernutter built a banana-powered rocket cart. Yes, a rocket cart. With bananas. Alice and Ariel found him zipping around the backyard at turbo speed, yelling, “FORCES AND MOTION, BABY!” (He really liked shouting that part.) “What are you doing?!” Alice giggled as Fluffernutter zoomed past, wearing swimming goggles and trailing rainbow streamers from his…

so id say my tumblr network (as in, the people who tend to see/interact with my posts) is pretty mathy. i wanted to see how people interact w math and how they like to learn about it :) (and: maybe do something with that on my blog!!! wouldnt that be fun)
polls have a limited amount of characters i can add per option, so ill clarify some concepts here:
informal education is learning via a coordinated effort by an instance/expert outside of school system (e.g. voluntary lectures, social media posts, museum visits, youtube videos or similar). by informal i dont mean "its school but the teacher is chill" or independent research!!
formal education is learning through a school system (usually mandatory/with a teacher or professor present)
i refer to any education you do without making use of coordinated programmes as independent research, so that would be just you picking up an advanced math book to educate yourself, or perhaps scanning wikipedia, or emailing math profs with questions
when i talk about reading math in a general context, i mean that the material discusses math for a broad audience, so it doesnt talk about super niche specific mathematical concepts, and doesn't contain any complicated formulas/proofs/math speech
please do elaborate in the tags!!!

I've read and enjoyed some role-reversal AUs where Spock is the captain and Kirk is the first officer, but I'm kind of wondering if there are any where Spock is the captain and Kirk is the lead psychologist, occupying a role on the ship somewhere between Elizabeth Dehner and Deanna Troi. Or even an AU where Spock is still chief science officer, but ship psychologist!Kirk answers to him.
I mean, it seems inevitable that someone has written that AU in the *checks hand* 58 years since the possibility was brought up onscreen. And I do think Kirk's "lol no fucking shit" response to McCoy suggesting he'd make a good psychologist—given how much Kirk operates by instantly reading the people and situations around him and calibrating his persona as needed—kind of invites it!
So it's definitely a different science division Kirk scenario, but fun to think about now and then. Especially given that he canonically has such strong opinions about the importance of ethical approaches to clinical treatment and so on.

Day 76/100 [01/30/2025]
(8AM) Immunology -> got my quiz grade back! I thought I did worse :,)
(11AM) Genetics -> still doing good! I retain the most info from her class which is .. weird
(12:30) Met with a possible mentor (yet again) -> I bombed the interview and said a bunch of stupid things that didn't make sense. Still, he said he'd help in any way possible (so hopefully I can convince him to help)
Got dunkin & then went to work (it went horrible)

The brightest star in the constellation of Virgo is actually a binary system! And the closest to the sun. It's formed by a blue giant and a variable star, they orbit so close together that they've gained an ellipsodal shape, similar to that of an egg

❤️ Pump It Up! Alice’s Guide to the Circulation Station
By Alice HELLOOOOOO, my pulsing pink jellybeans! 💖 My big sister Ariel (you know, the smart one who actually reads books without pictures) just wrote a paper ALL ABOUT the circulatory system — that’s the inside-body train system that moves blood, oxygen, and mystery sparkles around so we don’t fall asleep mid-cartwheel. 🧸️ Mr. Fluffernutter and I read it (okay, HE read it while I colored his…

TOP 5 NON (mostly) LORE RELATED MYSTERIES OF TF2
Pyro genuinely disappeared from the plot for most of Blood in the water. Heavy and Scout were at Ayers Rock, Spy, Solly and Zhanna were in what I think is Sydney, and Ms Pauling, Demo and Sniper were in Adelaide. Where the fuck was Pyro. Where did my precious beast go.
Why doesn't Mags (australian) have a moustache (presumably due to Australium depletion but never confirmed) (or maybe she isnt actually australian? You know they never actually stated she was...).
Why did the MANN CO crate that had Soldier and Sniper clothes in it also have Zhanna clothes in it (in the naked and the dead).
IS BESTRALIUM REAL (see "gallery" on the doomsday map page, it seems to be a failed substitute australium) AND WILL IT BE RELEVANT IN COMIC 7.
Why did Saxton Hale kill the Italian President (see manniversary update).

So I saw a video recently...
It was about how because people have decided wasps are evil angry stingers gere only to curse you and your family these important pollinators are in danger. And like... normally I'd try and change my personal opinion upon hearing that but the thing is... I have had a phobia of them and every other flying bug with a stinger since I was teeny tiny. It's a little difficult to think of them as ok when just the thought of them makes breathing harder.
So I thought I'd share it here for my handful of followers! And here's some fun facts I got off a quick google search by typing in "wasps are important". (Quick to prevent giving myself an anxiety attack.)
Wasps aren't just important for pollination! They're also very useful for keeping balance in the ecosystem. They hunt bugs that would otherwise be eating the fauna and crops such as aphids and caterpillars.
While they aren't as good at pollinating as bees and butterflies (which both are running low on staff if you catch me anyway) they still pollinate almost 300 different plants at least. This is including 164 species which are entirely dependent on wasps specifically.
Wasps are particularly useful when it comes to grapes!
They're venom and saliva has antibiotic properties and yellow jacket wasp venom specifically have shown promise for curing cancer! Isn't that cool? How come I've never heard this!
Like I said, due to widespread hatred and belief that wasps are evil little demons, they're populations are dropping and research of them is too. Ya know how I just said they might help cure cancer? Yeah that's included. So while I can't really do anything maybe you can?
'Til next time!
