Watch the following actual, real footage that I recorded of myself acquiring XP in Duolingo while learning absolutely nothing.
If you are a regular user of the app, you can try replicating this method on your own. Otherwise, please watch and discuss how this counts as an example of cheesing.

Class Discussion:
What are some good or bad experiences you have had with language learning apps?
What are good or bad experiences you have had with other gamified learning platforms, like Blooket, Kahoot, Quizzizz, and Gimkit?
Focus on Gimkit for a little while, because it's the most cheesable learning-game platform I have ever seen.
Direct Instruction:
Making educational videogames is often discussed as being like making chocolate-covered broccoli. It's very difficult to balance the two of them just right to where it's not too much of a silly, fluffy little game (like Gimkit), nor too much of a crunchy, tiresome learning activity. Duolingo generally strikes a good balance because the rewards are well calibrated to be motivating and help users build up a habit of about 15 minutes of study per day that mixes review with new material. It's not perfect by any means, and their activities are much better for some kinds of language acquisition (English and Romance languages) than others (Japanese).
But for many kinds of skill acquisition, especially language learning, that habit is vital in order to maintain progress. And habits are very difficult to form. Videogames, however, are very good at building habits. Which is why even after my cheesing session, I still spent 15 more minutes doing actual exercises while walking the dogs because I really, really wanted to meet my daily study goals and that's when I always do it.
Modeled Activity:
But where gamified learning fails is in higher order learning activities. It's nearly impossible to craft these into any kind of educational game. Higher order learning, such as compositional writing or research-based problem solving, or creative design, cannot be judged and scored as simply as can a multiple-choice or a fill-in-the-blank. This is most unfortunate, because we need higher order activities in order to meaningfully engage with what we are learning. I don't want my Spanish skills to be limited to phrases like "I need to make three deposits into my bank account" or "After the accident, all they could find were her molars".
Instead, show students how to riff on the canned language that populates these apps. Ask students to speak out loud, using the text on screen as prompts to do something more creative.

Higher Order Learning:
Students use examples like these and work together in small groups to roleplay a scenario between multiple characters that explains why they are saying these specific phrases. Students must remain within the language they are studying. This may prove to be very difficult, but that's the point.
Alternatively, students can experience the same kind of creative compositional thinking by doing a roleplay chat with a generative AI, but that's a lot less fun.

First, make a bunch of mistakes.

Do this as many times as necessary until all of your mistakes are on listening-based exercises.
Note that you still receive credit as if you completed them. In this way, you can get full XP in a few seconds.

Now, here's the crucial part where it becomes stupid.
Go back to the Practice tab and hit Listen

The system assumes you still cannot listen to exercises, because you just said that 5 seconds ago.
Hit "Turn On"

🚨You do not need to actually do any Listening exercises!🚨
Instead, go back to Mistakes and you will be allowed to do all of your Listening-based mistakes again. So once again, you just hit Can't Listen Now after less than 3 seconds and you'll receive 20xp (40xp if boosted).
Guided Practice:
Walk your students through this process of cheating to make sure they do it correctly and aren't actually learning anything helpful about their chosen language.
Higher Order Learning:
Have students time themselves to see how quickly they can perform one of these cheating loops. Most likely they can get it down to be about 5 seconds. Given that a boost lasts for 15 minutes, how many XP could they get just by performing the cheating loop ad nauseam until the Boost is over? What about if they get three boosts in a day, which is very easy to do if you perform this trick? What will other people on the leaderboard think when they see how much xp you have gained in one day? Will they think you're awesome or will they think you're such a loser that you have to cheat at gamified learning?
