Legend of the Galactic Heroes is my favorite anti-authoritarian story because it indulges in the fantasy of the benevolent dictator. 

Authoritarianism is, more often than not, depicted as this indisputably evil institution that is so glaringly nefarious that any reasonable person would know to fight against it. That makes for a good story, but it fails to recognize why anyone would want an authoritarian government to begin with. 

LOGH has Reinhard, who declares he will seize the galaxy in his hands and remake it in his own image. His image is genuinely just. He wants to make life in the empire better. He wants a more equitable society. He wants to do good. On the surface, he succeeds at doing just that. By the time the story ends, Reinhard has reinvented society and improved the lives of billions of people. All of this is in stark contrast to the empire’s biggest enemy.

The Free Planets Alliance is a democracy quickly crumbling under the weight of corruption and the rise of fascism. It’s increasingly chaotic, and its violence is often inflicted onto the civilians living within it. At many times, it feels more unjust to live in the FPA than in the goddamn authoritarian regime just across the milky way. 

The contrast between the empire and the FPA clearly shows what the allure of a dictatorship is. LOGH understands that under societal duress, we want one all-powerful person to swoop in and save us. We want things fixed now, no matter the cost.

The more Reinhard exerts his power to improve the empire, the more we wish that someone in the FPA could also be given that kind of unrestrained authority. We know who exactly in the FPA could make the world better, and we watch them time and time again be screwed over by the powers that be above them. It’s so easy to want them to become another Reinhard-- another just, all-powerful crusader. We want the benevolent dictator.

LOGH tells us not to fall for it. 

Reinhard never falls to corruption. His regime is built on the hard work of men who fully commit to his morals. But there is an inherent violence that never goes away. It’s an authoritarian regime, after all. There’s still a secret police that quietly dispels the opposition. Loyal subordinates are made scapegoats and sacrificed for the sake of the cause. The goodness of the empire hinges on Reinhard’s goodwill. 

LOGH lets Reinhard maintain that goodwill. He gets to spend his entire life fulfilling his dream. He never falls from grace. The fantasy of the benevolent dictator is allowed to come true. 

Then the story asks: what happens when he’s gone?

Reinhard never dismantles the system that created the injustice he fixed. His life’s work will be washed away the moment the throne is succeeded by someone any less benevolent than him. Reinhard realizes this a little too late, and he asserts over and over again that only someone worthy of the throne should take it.

But he has mythologized himself too much, and the people who had fallen for his charm and accepted the good of his system believe that his son will be as equally great. One day, his family name will become synonymous with injustice just like the old regime he had brutally dismantled. He saved the present, but not tomorrow. 

That we never see the spoiling of Reinhard’s legacy is important. The consequences of authoritarianism can take years, if not generations to pan out.  Just because picking a dictatorship will benefit you today doesn’t absolve you of the responsibility to think of tomorrow. But if you can’t accept a government run by a singular savior, what other option do you have?

You have democracy. At times, it’s a poor answer. It’s a system that requires slow, glacial change. It’s prone to corruption. Those who would be the best to rule it are the least inclined to seize power within it. But, as protagonist Yang Wen-li asserts, we haven’t figured out a better system yet. We have to keep dedicating ourselves to a flawed system. What other options do we have?

The benevolent dictatorship is a sweet fantasy, but it’s just that; it was never real to begin with.

Legend of the Galactic Heroes acknowledges how people can give up their rights to a dictator for the sake of a comfortable present. It also understands the sad truth that the only way to fight against the allure of authoritarianism is to have faith in a failing system. The reward may mean more uncertain years of strife, but it’s a sacrifice you have to make not for yourself, but for the generations that will come after you.

A good government is a practice in faith. You have to believe in your rights to self-governance in order to retain them. It’s not easy, but you have to do it. You need to.

WARNING FOR GINGA DENSETSU REQUIEM SPOILERS… and also a MASSIVE rant. Though as if the GDReq spoilers even fucking matter because the recent chapter pissed me off so I’m drawing stuff for my canon-divergent AU out of pure spite 

Sigh… so aside from the usual bad Ginga writing by having Cross kiss Sirius’ ass and wish he was still alive and Koyuki being a complete oblivious airhead, what really crossed the line for me this chapter is the fact that Bellatrix is now pregnant with Shirozaru’s pups. YES, SHIROZARU. THE GROWN ASS ADULT WHO KNEW BELLA AS A CHILD, WATCHED HER GROW, AND WAS BASICALLY BELLA’S MENTOR IS NOW BELLA’S MATE. I have no words for how fucking gross that is

So I'm posting a palate cleanser with my AU I’ve had for years where instead Bella is a lesbian and is paired with Jerome and Lydia’s pup Sunny (who is female in my AU). And they adopt an Akita pup named Masami. Like I said I drew this out of pure spite so I can have a Bellatrix relationship + family that isn’t disgusting

Will you be reading any of the other Warriors books? I wanna see you rant about all of them honestly there's almost always something wrong in every single one lmao. I'd also like to see you rant about Ginga too, both the good and not so good stuff.

I will! After I finally get through the end of DOTC, I want to do TNP. I think what's going to be more fun about TNP is that you can see a lot of the later series' issues start to become most apparent, while still being enjoyable.

In particular I really want to talk about the Tigerkin family as I go through TNP, I can never really escape how much they fascinate me, both in both positive and negative senses. I chew on them like dog toys. I feel like the Erins didn't accomplish what they WANTED to say with them, but in the wake of their choices, they still told a very interesting story about legacy.

I'm not sure how much I could say about Ginga though! I think its really good parts are hard to explain, and its really bad parts are just kinda apparent. Warriors is bad in so many ways, and so many of its flaws are incredibly interesting to talk about. I guess I could give it a whirl, though.

Rant of the week: Otonari ni Ginga (A Galaxy Next Door)

Welcome to my weekly rant about a certain thing. I'm not sure what else will follow in the future although I have a small list of things I wanna go through. I try to put out one rant a week (for a not very sociable person like I am that's a lot).

Without further ado let's dive into today's anime of choice: Otonari ni Ginga / A Galaxy Next Door.

A short anime with 12 episodes and in my opinion almost a must watch for lovers of the romance genre.

The story starts with our main character Ichirou Kuga and his two younger siblings Machi and Fumio who have just lost their father to an illness. Now Ichirou is trying to make a living from being a landlord and his passion: a manga artist. He wants to save up enough money to eventually send his siblings off to college if they choose to do so.

However, he is barely making deadlines and now has to care for his siblings on top of his other duties, so he eventually finds an assistant in Shiori Goshiki, a young woman who seems quite artistically talented despite having never drawn manga.

Soon he will find out things about her he could have never imagined.

Without spoiling anything I will say that there is a slight supernatural twist in the story that is the driving force behind the plot.

What makes this show so great? Good question!

It is an adorable story about family and love that blooms in all these characters. Ichirous siblings are the cutest little siblings I have ever seen in an anime. Shiori is a girl from a distant island so she has never had much contact with the outside world. She is also no primitive being but gets excited about the most simple things, making her adorable.

Ichirou is a normal guy who is always willing to help despite the workload on his table but ultimately kinda sucks at socializing making him very relatable.

BUT the biggest plus point is: this anime actually almost exclusively focuses on romance so it's consistently cute and enjoyable for romance lovers. The characters are amazingly written and realistic and not a single one of them is annoying but they're still unique in their own sense.

What was important for me is that these characters are not like shy little teenagers or act on impulse and do something stupid over and over again. The main couple is a shy mess sometimes but that's only because neither of them have any idea how a relationship is supposed to work which makes it even cuter.

In short: A must-watch for romance enjoyers and finally an anime that actually focuses on romance and presents it well.

Why Orion is the most unfairly treated dog in Ginga (both in-universe and by the fandom) and why Rigel is actually kind of a cunt when you think about it

So recent chapters of the nightmare that is Ginga Densetsu Noah have me thinking real fuckin’ hard. Rigel’s now been named Supreme Commander, and I have some serious fuckin’ problems with that considering the literal first thing he did when given the chance to do something leader-y was nearly hand over all of Ohu (right after the Monsoon battle, mind you) to the cunt who captured and nearly crippled his dad, like sure yeah Weed’s a cuntrag and deserves it but Rigel should actually give a shit about him, yet he does this shit anyway. And yeah, maybe this was a trick to go and get reinforcements later but one, I highly fuggin doubt Yip Yip was just gonna be like “Ok cool yall can leave then” when, again, look at what happened to Weed and the Nokizaru, and two, he could’ve brought that shit up with Ohu they were literally right there next to him he could’ve whispered some shit and then pretended like they were consulting it’s not like Yip Yip and the Akashit Squad are all that smart. But that’s besides the point. I bring up Rigel because people are real fuckin’ quick to act like he’s the good brother and Orion’s not worth shit, huh. Orion’s been done real dirty since GDWO and I’ll tell you why.

First of all, no one actually fucking tells Orion calmly when he’s doing something wrong, not even in the beginning of GDWO, they all just fucking screech at him about how he’s a little shit which ofc is gonna make him wanna act out out of spite, and it’s never his parents that do anything, no it’s always other adults who SAY they oughta do something but don’t do it. You could say that maybe they tried being more patient before but we don’t see that and they only ever do this with Orion and not Rigel, who also does crazy shit like that. You’d think Kyoushiro of all fucking dogs would see that Orion’s a tough guy like him and take him under his wing but I guess not because Orion is everything Weed isn’t and Jyoushiro’s quarter of a braincell can’t handle that apparently

Then there’s the fuckin ending of GDWO when Weed isn’t even subtle about how much he worships Sirius’s little baby dick for looking and acting just like him, taking him off to battle and not idk the fucking puppy who’s actually killed two guys because he’s had fighting experience but go off, and then there’s that shit Gin did like yeah punish Orion for not wanting to leave the rest of the army (when he really should not give a fuck about them because clearly they don’t value him). And double fuck you to this fake ass Ohu Army for just standing there and watching Orion get beat for doing something none of them have the balls to fucking try and do, even Izou like wtf man u were more of a dad to Orion in this whole manga why tf are you standing there man

Now Rigel started off like Orion and was a spicy boi who swore and picked on Bella but he had character development with Terumune and learned to be more chill which is cool there’s nothing wrong with that. You know what is wrong with that tho? Rigel’s weird ass behavior of acting like he and Orion weren’t them bois cutting up together in GTLW and GDN, like I know Rigel mostly just fucks off and hangs out in the background but he really acts like he doesn’t know his own brother when he opens his mouth like for example that scene where Rigel just runs the fuck off like a bitch when Orion is pouring his heart out to him

Let’s back up a bit and talk about that for a moment, Gin and Akame really set Orion to fail by being hella cryptic, whether it was Akame seeing that Orion was trying his hardest to try and answer his questions correctly and then WHISPERING SHIT TO SIRIUS LIKE UM DO YOU NOT SEE THAT ORION ALREADY HAS ANXIETY AND IS TRYING TO DO WHAT YOU WANT? and then fucking Gin with his whole “If you move, Paradise will fall and everyone’s gonna fuckin die” like gee thanks Gin why not some actually helpful shit like “Hey, make sure everyone recovers and is doing alright before we plan a new attack” no just scare the piss out of Orion so he’s constantly second guessing himself and has to jump off a cliff to calm down because talking to someone won’t fuckin’ help, so with that in mind, why the FUCK is Rigel acting like Orion’s the selfish one for wanting to go with his friends and protect them from whatever stupid bullshit Sirius and Monsoon are doing??? Rigel doesn’t even apologize or even just stops to talk things over with what should be his closest brother, but nah just bring Chibi’s worthless token good bear ass back and act like everything’s cool, great plan Mr. Supposedly Best Leader Material

I already brought up GDN and why Rigel’s stupid ass decisions make him even worse of a choice for leader than Sirius, but you know what would be a good idea? if Gin had just never fucking retired in the first place, or better yet, actually fucking give Orion the advice he needs and not be weird and act like he’s the problem when you shitasses are just standing around waiting for him to fail

This rant got a little rambly and I apologize but if you managed to get through to the end then that’s hot that’s hot

I cant write my chapters of Running With The Wolves to save my life because I feel they're not good enough (latest chapter barely has 5 likes), I fucked up my sleeping cycle for the umpteenth time even when I told myself I wouldn't, I failed the first semester of school (it's my last year), and now I...I feel like fucking crying any time I think about it.

Depression hurts, but when you can't fucking deal with the smallest things, even though they shouldn't affect you? It makes it ten times worse.

No, I dont think of self-harm or suicide, but still...when you feel worthless, useless, and an all around a nuisance? It can drag you down.

I mean, just talking to people on the internet that I find really cool compared to me (anyone in particular), or even asking for help from people on Tumblr? I feel like I'm just being fucking annoying, and making them not want to deal with me because of me asking them something or just talking to them in general.

I'm trying my damndest to be the best I can be. I'm willing to help anyone with something, or talk to them when they need it, but...my depression is making even THAT hard to do.

Anyways, to end my sad talk on a happier note, here's a doggo that I attempted to draw today. It's not the best, but I tried drawing Riki from 'Ginga Nagareboshi Gin' (it's an anime about dogs. I watched it because it didn't really have humans in it (except for the first couple of episodes), just dogs). I wasnt able to look at pics during class, so I drew the head from memory (nix the scar across his face), and free handed the body of him (reference down below).

Selittäkää joku voiko tää olla ihan puhdasta sattumaa vai onko Takahasi ollut ennen internet-aikakautta (tämä sarjis on alotettu ilmeisesti vuonna 1993) tietonen siitä millä nimillä GNG on maailmalla ennen muinoin kulkenut? Vaikea kuvitella että olisi ollut, koska ainakin ne Suomessa pyörineet kasetit oli aika epämääräisiä eikä niissä mainittu halaistua sanaa japanilaisesta alkuperästä tai Takahashista tai mistään, joten liekö Japaniin asti niistä kulkeutunut edes minkäänlaisia sopimuksia saati rahoja. Vaan sattumaa eli ei, loppujen lopuksi kysymys on vaan siitä kummalla tässä on ollut kympinarvonen huumorintajunsa pelissä: herra Takahashilla vai rouva Fortunalla. Varsinaisia veijareita molemmat!

Ginga Densetsu, Weed smoked off by animators

So, as we all know, Ginga Densetsu Weed’s animation is infamously terrible. I’ve been trying to look for the people responsible for the travesties that are “dead horse John”, “alligator Blue”, “giraffe Hougen“ and “Laggy“. Everybody blames DEEN for the mistakes, but there were actually quite a few studios involved in the animation... and after careful research, I’ve determined the in-betweeners are to blame. The key animation (motionless frames between motion) looks good for the most part, but the in-between animation (the motion) is where it starts to get funny. I ended up comparing GDW’s staff with the staff of other anime, via AnimeNewsNetwork’s comparison tool, and noticed it actually shares some animation studios with Super Robot Wars OG: The Inspector. Nakamura Production did key animation for both GDW and SRWOG:TI; Noside did in-between animation for both series; Studio Mark did key animation for both; and White Line did key animation, in-between animation and finish animation for both. These four studios are not to blame. The Inspector looks great and I really don’t think studios involved with that series would make mistakes, especially since Inspector was made only five years after GDW. Here you go: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gCBCHammL3g Compare this with "dead horse John”. Then there’s this series called Future GPX Cyber Formula that also looks really good. Studio Egg did in-between animation and finish animation for both Cyber Formula and GDW (CF is 14 years older! And it still looks better than the GDW fails!). Ashi Productions did in-between animation for Cyber Formula SAGA and GDW; and Studio DEEN actually did in-between animation for SAGA. Saint Seiya: The Lost Canvas and GDW both had in-between animation from Hanjin Animation; Saint Seiya: Soul of Gold and GDW had in-between animation from Studio Kuma; while Saint Seiya Omega and GDW had key animation from Studio Kuma. That leaves the possible culprits as Echo (who actually did in-betweens and finish animation for 20 episodes of GDW and key animation for 15, so YEAH) or the remaining studios (though they only did in-betweens and key animation for only an episode or two). I guess we can deduce from this that it was Echo who failed at drawing dogs properly. The same team did the in-betweens for like every season of You’re Under Arrest, and at least the first one was produced by, you know it, Studio DEEN! ...They should have known better than to hire Echo for GDW after that first You’re Under Arrest season...

I love Ginga but one thing I hate is when it tries to make characters forgive their abusers.

Kaibutsu was horrifically experimented on by humans for years and eventually snapped and got his revenge on them yet when Jerome is later fighting him he basically tells Kaibutsu that dogs should accept abuse from humans without fighting back.

Teru was only a puppy and was beaten by his abusive father but when his father's dying Weed forces him to forgive his horribly abusive dad because "hE's YoUr FaThEr!1!!1!"

And probably worst of all (and one of the many reasons I refuse to consider TLW canon), Bob and his siblings were only puppies when Monsoon found them and Bob's siblings all were tortured by him before being eaten (including one puppy having it's front legs torn off so it had to walk on two legs) and when they were all dead he made Bob into his tortured and traumatized servant. But then Sirius acts like Bob's being a big meanie for not forgiving uwu soft boi Monsoon and I'm not gonna get into Sirius more because you don't want to see me go on a huge rant about how much I hate Sirius.

I wanted to add Hougen due to Weed's controversial speech about forgiving enemies right as Gin was about to kill the bastard but I decided not to because I couldn't think of which victim of his to put under him. I considered maybe Reika but there wasn't a scene where anyone told her to forgive Hougen for trying to turn her into his own personal sex slave so I didn't (I mean yeah she was there when Weed gave his speech but it was directed at everyone, not just her).

Yet even more changes for my Ginga AU (I suggest not reading below if you’re not interested in hearing me rant about Ginga Densetsu Noah for the hundredth time)

Ignoring how terrible GDN is as a manga I decided to take Noah, break the character down to his essentials, and then rebuild him into a new OC. 

ORIGINALLY I imagined him as Hyena’s SON and not just Hyena renamed, but now I decided to make him Bat’s son instead (seeing as how Hyena and Bat are both the same breed aka Weimeramers). He inherited his father’s “Mind’s Eye” from the GDW anime ability which is why much like canon Noah in GDN he has a bunch of weird psychic/future vision powers. And also because thematically the name Noah has nothing to do with a character who’s a seer I’ve decided to name him Izaiah, an actual Biblical prophet. 

And yes, Hyena also remains dead in this AU. Not because I have anything against Hyena as a character obviously, I liked him just fine in GNG but I fucking hate the retcon/rewrite in GDN that he survived and became some magical guru hippie Gary Stu who’s Sirius’ butt-buddy (because of course everything has to boil down to the great and glorious Sirius 🙄) Literally the point of Hyena’s death was to add weight to his redemption arc that he was willing to die alongside Ben as an act of honor so I’m keeping that.

Current state of Sentai

I've made it no secret that i'm not a big fan of modern sentai, but the Don Brothers reveal yesterday has just thrown me into doomer mode, I watched the trailer in full and cringed through out and I've not been look forward to it since they started show it off. So I'm gonna use this post to have a bit of a rant about it, take a look under the cut if you care.

Okay I need to talk about the elephant in the room... The CGI rangers, two of Don Brothers members are presented as CG characters the only problem with this is...

The CG and motion capture looks like it came out of fucking Food Fight, I don't know why they went this route but they did and it might look funny and interesting NOW, that is not going to last through 45+ episodes, stuff like this gets old fast.

I'm not one of these people thad just hates CG outright, not at all however toei's tokusatsu CG has never been good enough to carry a whole show on it's back ESPECIALLY when it comes to CG character models.

The next problem I want to hightlight is a trend in more rescent sentai, this Hyper Litteralism that Don Brothers is engaging in, like it's really gimmcky and gives a overall worse looking problem, I'll use Saru Brother as the example;

He can't just be a blue ranger with a ape theme (Ginga Blue, Blue Buster) He's got to have big furry arms, big stompy boots, a peanut head, and a bright red ass because 'Haha look at the monke' it's really obnoxious and makes the suit look worse, toei never had to be this litteral before so why so I don't get why it needs to be like this.

Next up is something that REALLY bothers me that no one seems to want to talk about and that is well... Sentai Mechs are just CGI now it seems and everyone in the fandom just seems okay with it, It's sad in my opinion, the mechas suits are one of the things I get super excited to see when new sentai comes out and just to know they're not gonna be a thing anymore is depressing, meanwhile I point out how shit awful the CG mechs look I get called "Reductive."

I think this all culminates into something that toei is going to have to face the music on when it comes to sentai, It's fucking dying, you can say i'm full of bullshit, but it's true the last couple of years sentai has been selling fewer and fewer toys each year now do toys decide how good a show is? No, but when the whole point of your show is to sell toys? I'm gonna say that it's important.

Zenkaiger Matched TimeRanger in terms of toy sales making it one of the worst selling sentais of all time, Let's compare to another toei toku show.

Kamen Rider Rivice sold more merch in it's first quarter, than Zenkaiger did in a year.

Current sentai producer Shirakura even admited before Zenkaiger started said that Sentai wasn't in a good place and new steps had to be taken to ensure it's continued survival.

I say pull the fucking plug, let Sentai go though what the other two of the big 3 shows (Sentai, Rider, Ultraman) went through and go off the air for a bit, let new talented creators dust it off after a few years of letting it sleep and revitalise it. IT FUCKING NEEDS IT THE MILK HAS RUN DRY GUYS.

Hi! I recently read your post on rating the New Gen series and I wonder if you could do the same for New Gen movies so far (and their movie forms/fusions, if there's any). Thanks in advance!

Oh gosh I think I posted both some years back (But of course Tumblr cant find them as always) when I still could rmb their series and movies much more clearly as compared to now but I suppose I can try to rmb said movies whoop

1. Ginga S movie: 2.5/5

Tho small parts of the movie was pretty cringe (like the scenes where UPG faced their 'fears' iirc), but although the plotline was more action-focused as it was very obviously aimed at commemorating the end of the Heisei Era by having all the Heisei Ultras making cameos, the general plot itself was decent enough to incorporate said usually burdensome overarching goal such that it was pretty okayish as a whole (Which you’ll see later why it can be a HUGE burden) as it does provide a good enough explanation for their cameos (albeit the controversial Nexus)

Although it really intrigued me was Etalgar (also one of my favourite villain designs btw) as a character as we now know that the movie plotline shares some simarities with UGF3 with him knowing of the existence of Ultras and having an actually pretty sound plan of dealing with them. Not to mention it was also hinted from his birthplace that there were more beings like him which I hope TsuPro will explore that implication in the future.

Ginga Victory’s design: 3.5/5

True to its existence as a pure fusion, it really did encompass most of both Ginga and Victory’s elements. But obviously, Ginga’s traits were more prominent with only the zenshin crystals being translucent but not the Victorium Crystals. Especially the lack of said crystals on his head sculpt which wouldve made a much more BANGER design. So GV’s design was so close yet so far to really look like a pure fusion of the two.

2. X Movie: 3/5

Basically in the same vein as the Ginga S Movie, a decent action-focused plot that had a good executed commemorative goal of Tiga’s and Ultraman’s anniversaries, but it was better than the former as of course with less cameos, more time was able to be allocated into fleshing out the actual movie plot as well as the ‘in-universe’ lore of this version of Ultraman and Tiga (The implications of which I went in depth before but I wont go into it here) iirc my only gripe with the movie was that people cant shut up when the battle was going on

But in addition to that, I just recalled that this was the first time we were actually baited into the whole Desastro foreshadowing which we have yet to see or even know what had came of it, but that isnt a flaw thats intrinsic to the movie so I’ll give that a pass.

EXBSA’s design: 4/5

I believe I did also say this specifically in a previous most that I absolutely love these kind of bulky designs. But my only gripe with the armor and just X’s armor ‘forms’ in general is that they dont really cover his whole body. And man can you imagine if BSA actually covers his whole body? Dude would look like Diablo lmao

3. Orb Movie: 1.5/5

Oh boy I remembered that I probably ranted about this for the first like 2 years of starting this blog lmao

Gosh where do I even begin with this one. I guess in general, the movie is just so random and cringey.

The latter would actually just be the carrying over of the cringe cast from the series and their shenanigans which I still couldnt stand in the movie. Not to mention that I couldnt even take the aliens seriously at all (Just compare the Temperor in this movie to the one in the Superior 8 Brothers movie) as well as Mulnau which is frankly uninteresting and quite obnoxious ngl.

The former would include the scenes of iirc the Bullton scene as well as OT having to job to Deavorick to necessitate Seven’s appearance

Boy Im already recalling all the angst I felt from the past as im typing out this entry lmao

OT’s design: 0.5/5

Trash movie, and an even trashier movie form. Gosh I believe I ranted more about this than the movie LMAO.

I honestly expected to be absolutely blown away since back then when LA’s design was revealed, I already was by it. But wow when the leaks on OT’s design came. My heart literally sank.

What was expectedly a much, much edgier version of GV with LA’s AWESOME cybernetic armor platings turned out to basically Orb Origin wearing red gloves and shoulder pads with makeup

4. Geed Movie: 3.5/5

This movie had obviously alot more plot-building than the previous entries while retaining somewhat the same level of quality action, not to mention, courtesy of Orb/JJ and Zero’s cameo being more or less expected, it helps to more seamlessly appear in this movie.

But of course, the plot premise was, just like his series, had VERY CONVENIENT circumstances, such as the Giga Finalizer’s existence, Gukuru shisa’s appearance and for some reason, Gilvaris somehow escaping Taro etc

UF’s design: 2.5/5

Truth be told, I was both confused and kinda disapointed when his design was leaked in a catalog because iirc someone was able to datamine 2 more Geed fusions from the Geed Riser, one being “Ultimate Fusion Rise” and ngl i forgot the other so i expected a higher order fusion or sth, but of course we didnt get anything close to that. The confusion arises from the theme of his design which is very unexpected for his character’s theme as well as obviously as a counter to Gilvaris (courtesy of the Giga Finalizer), he adopted a “cyber” theme but ngl as the ‘son’ of Belial, I wouldve expected him to finally unlock his reionyx form (totally expected that form would essentially be Geed’s initial design, aka the one that looks like Atrocious) as a culmination of his genetic identity.

5. RB Movie: 2/5

Ok this movie felt random af

Everything was so out of place. The sudden theme of “dreams”? Toregia, a immensely powerful villain being part of all this seemingly inconsequential (to him) event, him basically reading a script to admire the RB siblings’ familial relationship before his “defeat” (Which makes even less sense in his subsequent appearances), Katsumi being teleported (and the convenient interdimensional travel back) instead of being being made into a monster like Snake Darkness or sth (which wouldve been consistent with Toregia’s character btw) It all just feels so artificial and it was very apparent that the movie was just trying to continue shoving down the idea of “family” in the most non-subtle and uncomfortable way as did the series as well as just introducing Toregia as a character, rather than its implications.

Grigio’s design: 1/5

Yeah, definitely hated how she looked due to the head shape, the lack of armor and black in her suit like her siblings had, just makes her look really plain af. And I didnt really like how ‘basic’ her brothers look either so that pushes the rating even lower lmao

Gruebe’s design: 1/5

Yes this was an absolute disappointment as honestly, the only thing they got right was his head sculpt, and Im not even talking about this whole shitty CGI sequence either, it looks just as shitty in live action

Lets first look at Ruebe, while honestly in the context of the series, it seemed odd of a duo fusion due to the gold in the color scheme which was frankly unnecessary but still, appreciated since there were quite abit of new design gimmicks implemented into it that werent event present in Rosso or Blu like the crystals on his arms

But Gruebe for some reason decided to hit the ‘go back’ button on this concept, several times over. Removing the gold, the additional gimmicks, having his head sculpt being the having the Grigio component and back to the alreadyb boring Rosso/Blu color scheme

I expected it to incorporate the siblings’ armor across more of his body while a more colorful palette or red, blue and orange but nah, we got a decent head sculpt, blue shoulder pads and a ‘naked’-looking suit. Its just still so confusing of why did they took a step back from Ruebe’s quality despite being a higher order fusion.

6. Taiga Movie: 4/5

I really would like to mention again of just how much i LOVE many Ultras/Hosts interacting with each other (maybe that why I prefer UGF lol) While obviously, due to the number of ultras featured, not alot of such interactions was able to be showcased, those despite the movie still didnt wrap what was Taiga’s whole plot premise all along of him stepping out of Taro’s shadow and resolving the ideological battle with Toregia, plus Grigio’s random appearance, I still really enjoyed the dialogues between the Ultras so much that I could overlook all of that.

(I mean it helps that I had basically given up hope on Taiga addressing the first two main plot points in his series alr so...)

Reiga’s design: 

By itself: 3.5/5

As a fusion: 0.4/5

I was actually not certain on what single rating I should give here. On one hand, if you look at his design by itself, it just looks like a much cooler version of Taiga. While on the other, if u consider that this form is supposed to mean, that either being the fusion of 11 Ultras or of 6 Ultras (movie forms + TS), it is absolutely disappointing, just look at all the bad points I pointed out for every movie form previously and Reiga just takes them all plus even more.

Like where’s Ginga and Victory’s crystals? X’s Armor? Orb’s forehead light? RBG’s head head sculpts? Just so many features that could’ve been implemented but they all just aren’t even there. I thought having more components would make the end result much more jaw-dropping since you would have more features to play around and mix and match with. But apparently no, rosso and blu’s contribution are reduced to just mere ‘stains’ on his head sculpt, and basically everyone else’s designs are aggregated into everything else, with none of their defining features. In this sense, this is worst than OT.

So yeah might as well give two seperate ratings
