I also hate when Batman kills, so any issue that features that is automatically docked a point (though I won't give each one a 0, that's stupid). Same goes to any issues featuring racism, sexism, etc. Not gonna be understanding because it was the 40's and shit.

I am going to try and review two issues a day, which means in about a year we might get to the 60's, maybe? Maybe?? It's gonne be a long haul, is all I'm saying.

Hello, welcome! Did you get attached to a campaign nobody cares about anymore with no clear chance of its return? Don't worry, so did we! Welcome to JRWI Mythborne Weekly!

We are the Solar System, a plural being! The ones here mostly will be probably Cheri, Aster, Biwi, Milo, and Dakota. The purple name, myself or Cheri, will be here most, so address us as such. We also use any pronouns unless one specifically states otherwise! Currently, we are the only mod, keep that in mind.

Here is where we'll attempt once a week to post Mythborne art, headcanons, writing, anything! Submissions are welcome and even encouraged, but of course the groundrules!

BASICS:

-This blog may reference spoilers for Mythborne as well as reference details mentioned after the show (such as questiond asked in Condicord about Ryan)! Be warned!

-Do not be hateful to any headcanoner. Hating on the characters for fun I can tolerate, but hatred to someone who sends a submission will be blocked and/or deleted.

-Haterisms we'd prefer to be joking, critisms though are okay as long as one knows how to properly critisize.

--If you would not like to see the critiques of others, block the tag "#criticizing the rats". Any who are hating in a way that is unclear of jokes (or are generally weird, see as example the one Le Frog post where someone thirsted over him and stuff) get a "#stamp of shame" if we decide it funny enough to post.

-Ships are okay! Have fun!

-Whether it is tone tags or parentheses, please clarify your tone, if not for the mods, then for those who come on by!

QNA TIME!

Q: What is/was Mythborne?

A: Mythborne was one of 3 pitched campaigns using a oneshot to showcase their stories, alongside The Prime Force Rises (or what is today Prime Defenders) and The Black Rose Pirates (or what is today Riptide)! It followed the story of 3 college students: Aster Aeliana (played by Grizzlyplays), Ryan Selucreh (played by Condifiction), and Connor Connors (played by Bizlychannel). The story, ran by Slimecicle, takes place at the big floatball game, where their school (the Wilrise Wild Rats) play against their rival, the Gilmore Griffins. However, during the half-time show, something goes terribly wrong, and it's up to our 3 heroes to figure out who's behind all this and to save the big game!

Q: Is/Was it public?

A: The pitch itself is public, but unfortunately any other content on them is not.

Q: Where can I find the extras?

A: On the Patreon (or JRWIshop), there's an Intergalactic What If where Aster, Vyncent, and Gillion (Vyncent from Prime Defenders and Gillion from Riptide, respectfully) all are put onto a gameshow! They also have the Mythborne Rolled I believe, although I don't have access to that one. Of course, there is also the DM notes, and if I remember correctly, I have seen some conversations on them in both Condicord and Grizzcord (if Slimecicle and Bizly have Discord servers, I cannot attest to their discussion of them)! There is also information on the JRWIwiki about them, just be ready for spoilers and possibly incorrect information!

Q: Why weekly? Aren't these blogs supposed to be daily?

A: Normally, yes that is the gimmick of this type of blog. However, I am a busy person and constantly lack motivation for writing or art. As such, I am doing this to avoid burnout. If I find something funny enough, maybe I'll do a double post week, but that's not likely.

Q: Are you going to tag the characters?

A: Yep! Each will get tagged just in case you want to see a specific one, including ships!

Tbh romance isn’t defined by groundrules because every romance is different. One romance is just friendships so close and dear you want to kiss them on the lips because it feels right.

For the other romance is like a hurricane ravaging the heart and causing chaos in the surroundings.

For someone else romance is going home to someone and ribbing each other while feeling comfortable around that one single person who feels like they’re the only one who gets you.

For another romance is like stumbling over a root and falling into the other and never letting go again before either of them notices.

Romance can be the anger and frustration you have for each other you rather want to push them away but to be without them is like a gaping hole in the heart.

Romance can be anything and everything. Not a single romance is the exact same even though media often makes it seem that way

Oh I totally get the part with love and romance being different for everyone! And I love reading about those different dynamics ranging from “two halves of the same whole” to “destined to fail like perpendicular lines crashing into one another only to part forever afterwards”.

It’s just that actually writing it is sooooooo difficult for me lmao. Developing romantic feelings for someone is (for me personally) strongly dependent on the type of bond/friendship you have with that person beforehand? But that’s also very different for everyone.

yandere Steve Rogers x reader (part 2)

A/N: I already posted this on my AO3 a while ago, but I thought I'd post it on tumblr as well.

Summary: A world where yanderes, known as 'protectors', are in charge, and as a result, are able to basically kidnap whoever they want. Steve and Bucky are your best friends, and you assumed they'd offer you some sort of protection from being kidnapped; you were wrong.

You were a glorified incentive for good behavior. They let Steve keep you, all to convince him to perform his fucking duties, to do his stupid little dance and song and propaganda show. That’s all it took for the government to give you up to the lab rat they made out of Steve Rogers.

You woke up to Steve’s face looming over yours, tied down to a soft, plush bed in a tent. He sat you up, hands and legs still connected via plush rope to a silver loop on the bedpost, and just… looked at you for a couple of seconds. He was massive, significantly taller than you remembered him being. He was 6’5”, hulking with muscle, arms bulging as they were crossed under his white t-shirt. he was wearing black cargo pants and combat boots, slightly hunched over in the dim light of the makeshift lodging, face barely illuminated in the swinging, warm light. His face was slack, jaw chiseled, swirling blue eyes locked onto yours.

He opened his mouth to speak, eyes still locked on yours, though you could see the obsession reflected in them. “I did this to protect you,” He shifted, frowning. Of course he would think that. All he cared about was what he felt, rather than what was best for you. Why did he not tell you? He knew how you felt about protectors!

“What the fuck happened to you?” you asked, mouth dry. All you could see was the boy he’d been, destroyed. You couldn’t believe this… monster was your former best friend!

“They gave me a super soldier serum. I knew I wouldn’t be able to protect you as I was, no matter how hard I trained. So, when they approached me and asked me to join the program, I said yes,” He said, voice low and strained toward the end. It seemed he really was hurt by the idea of not being able to protect you. You knew that protectors who couldn’t look after their darlings were often pitied, viewed as needing guidance or help… had you misinterpreted Steve and Bucky’s friendship? Had it all been a setup? The thought filled you with a feeling of humiliation so strong it felt like a hole was being burned through your chest, like someone had pressed hot coals onto your soul. All you could do was look at him, you’re sure with the most pitiable expression. He stared back, shifting slightly, as though your pain genuinely caused him discomfort. All you could think about was the fact that he had decided to put his emotional wellbeing over yours, to sacrifice you for his own comfort.

“What… What about Bucky?” you asked, voice dull and lacking soul. It felt like you’d been hollowed out by the massive betrayal you’d been dealt. Your life was over before you’d ever had the opportunity to really live it.

“he’s on the front lines. We’ve written a couple of letters back and forth, but enough of that. We need to establish some groundrules.” Steve moved forward, towering over where you sat on the bed. His face came into the light, better exposing the crazed glint in his eyes, despite his serious expression. You couldn’t help but sink back in fear, intimidated by his demeanor. Was he about to hurt you? Had being at war really changed him so much, so quickly?

“Can’t we just stay the same? I mean, Steve, you know me! You know that I’ve never wanted a relationship with a protector, to be locked away and melded into what someone else thinks is the idealized me… Please, Steve, I care about you, please don’t do this!” You begged, desparation shining through on your face. You could feel the fluttering feeling of panic coming over you, washing away any previous thoughts in its force. Steve’s face seemed to morph, looking more and more intimidating, the swinging light painting him in shades of grey and black that only highlighted his new, chiseled features.

He sighed, looking off into the distance warily. “I can’t… you don’t know how much it hurt me all those years, to watch you struggle in pain, without someone to protect you… You have such a backwards view of the world!” You huffed, interrupting his inpromptu speech.

He mock-glared at you, struggling to suppress a smile. It was like he was in a completely different world than you, unaware of how you felt or how you perceived the situation. He was divorced from your reality. It was like he thought he could act like your friend after everything he did, after the pain he’d caused you, after disappearing without a word. After kidnapping you.

“Don’t interrupt me, doll!” He totally stole that from Bucky, “As I was saying, we just need to set some ground rules. I promise I’m not gonna hurt you, but to keep you safe I need to know you’ll listen to me as your protector.” It didn’t matter what you said, he essentially had legal custody of you, able to make decisions for you without your opinion mattering. The hopelessness continued to blossom, turning from despair to numbness. You turned away, staring flatly at the wall of the tent, watching the shifting of the light’s beams.

“First of all, don’t go anywhere without me. This doesn’t really apply right now, considering the obvious,” he gestured to the rope, “but once you can go out, I don’t want you wondering off, alright?” Like you had a choice. You were sure he was going to tie you to him like a fucking dog, it would be the icing on top of a terrible situation. You hmm’d your consent, aware of what he was waiting for.

“Second, ask me before you make any major decisions. I need to know what you’re doing, even if it’s walking cross the camp, okay? I don’t want you getting hurt.” You nodded.

“Finally, I need you to tell me how you feel. I don’t want you to be scared, I know how you feel about protectors… But I’m here to keep you safe, to keep you healthy, I don’t want to make you miserable. All I want is to be there for you, even if our relationship has changed-”

A sudden burst of anger had you interrupting. “No, Steve! No, you aren’t here to keep me healthy, you’re here to control me! It doesn’t matter what I say, you kidnapped me! You clearly can’t care about me, if you’re willing to do this to me, knowing how I feel!” The tears that had been welling, that you’d kept back with that shallow barrier of numbness, burst out, and you were sobbing, practically wailing.

“I just want to go home, Steve!” you cried, hands raising to wipe at your cheeks in a futile attempt to rein yourself back in.

He clucked his tongue, sitting down on the bed next to you. Even seated, he still towered over you. He reached his hands up to cup your cheecks, huge hands covering large parts of your head, and gently used his thumbs to wip away some of your tears. You could barely see him through the tears still streaming out, though the gentle motions reminded you of the old Steve, the one you’d trusted with your life.

“Steve,” your voice broke, cracking from despair.

“Oh, sweetheart, I promise I just want the best for you… It’s my job as your protector. We’ll work together to get you comfortable, okay? I’m going to keep you safe, and I’m going to keep you happy, and you won’t have to worry about anything, alright? We’ll work on that backwards view on protectors, I’ll help you see the truth.” His eyes gleamed in the light, crazed glint even clearer this close, even through the tears.

There was no getting through to him, was there?

One Groundrule: This is all about Season 1. As I'm writing this I have seen what's available of S2 and I am totally normal about it! They took my Blorbo and put xym in the shows! ;_;

The thing is I only really have 3 notable gripes with "Squid Game" itself. Only one of which that really pisses me off, while the other two are more...hmmmm let's call it mixed.

For one, I do not care for the mass death aspect of many deathgames. It's great for shock and awe at the start, but imo if you have a set cast of players throughout then the second to last game shouldn't feature nameless fodder. It's clearly something the show does deliberately and it fits with the overarching theme, so I don't really fault it for it I just *shrug* sure whatever.

The thing I keep flip flopping about are the games and how much I like them. First watchthrough I found them kinda boring. Second I recognize how they play into the theme, but still found them meh. Third one now is after I started Hunting Grounds and opinions have gotten complicated!

Game 1+2 are great actually. "Red light/Green Light" is amazing shock and awe and "Dalgona" is really good for character work. No notes, I did not appreciate them enough.

Game 3+ 3.5 are mostly player reduction. There is also setup for some bit players and reinforcing the underdog theme. They are not bad per se (3.5 is pretty needed for other things) just...idk have fewer players to begin with.

Game 4 will rip your heart out. It's the one game I loved from the first time I saw it. Everything I love about this genre compressed into one challenge, it's fucking beautiful! One day I'm gonna figure out how to riff it into Hunting Grounds.

Game 5 is an absolute mess on every level. As a game, on the themes, where it is placed in the story, all of it bad. I get why it's here and why it is the way it is but oof does it not flow. Can't even think of a way of fixing it without doing major rewrites to everything around it.

Game 6. *deep sigh* Ok, rationally it's fine. There is a solid emotional core and it plays out in what I can recognize as devastatingly. Too bad I'm still angry at what happens right before we get here :)

This show is so lucky it's post games finale is pretty good.

Sae-byeok gets fridged purely so we can have a two man ex besties finale. There is nothing else to it. It doesn't really play into any themes and doesn't tell us anything about the other charas. She just dies in agony for no good reason. I hate it so much.

But yeah, if it was just that then this would be another show I would maybe rewatch occasionally but otherwise not think too much about. Alas this is not the context it exists in nowadays.

Tbh, I don't know if this is really a thing orjust another instance of tumblr pseudo philosophy, but: There is this notion of Capitalism co-opting it's critics and then marketing them back to you and Hooo boy is "Squid Game" the posterchild of all that.

That is not the Shows fault! It just happen to come out a the exact right time, with the exact right look to catch on with the right amount of people. After which some of the worst people got their hands on it and fucked it.

And I am not capable enough to not think about all that while watching.

During my first rewatch I kept thinking of all the Dalgona/Ikonography ASMR Slime and challenge videos that flooded Youtube for a while. This time through it was that + all the Beast Game reports. I wish I could enjoy "Squid Game" for what it is but the world is making that really annoying!

Anyway here is where this post would have ended if I hadn't noticed something while writing so instead we are now doing a detour to visit Grandpa! :D

At it's core "Battle Royale" is about the disposability of a vulnerable group in the eyes of society and how those People deal with that.

By attacking fellow victims in desperation. By fighting for what is precious to you. By giving up. By building community. By accepting the game and reveling at the carnage. By building a bomb to attack the people that put you here.

Yeah it's dated and janky in parts (especially the charas), but underneath that is a cause and depth that has aged exceptionally well! It shows that the genre lends itself so easily to systemic critique (to then get boiled down to just the spectacle).

"Squid Game" is about Besties being underdogs and if they're gonna make it through or not. That is what the story is interested in.

Sure there is also a scathing depiction of capitalist society and what it does to it's people....in the first 2 episodes and a bit at the end. It's a framing device. A really good one, but for the most part really just that.

I wish it was woven throughout the rest of the show in a more tangible way. But instead the story leans a lot more on it's characters and imo they aren't stable enough to carry that theme through.

For example Gi-hun has a background as a strike worker and the one time that comes up is a harrowing parallell. And then we go straight back to focusing on besties making it through as if this isn't something that should deeply reflect on the character.

I've seen this show 3 times now and I still can't tell you what Sang-woo's deal is. That's the second most important Player.

Meanwhile, even with all it's datedness, "Battle Royale" still manages to give it's evil Psychopath Stereotype enough Nuance that you get why he's here, doing what he does.

Because it focuses more on it's themes, groundworkand making those cohesive with the charas, "Battle Royale" stands the test of time in a way that I don't see "Squid Game" managing. Even if it weren't getting cannibalized as we speak.

I think that's the conclusion I'm coming to with this. There is a brilliance in "Squid Game" that you can clearly see! In the first 2 episodes, in Game 4, in Game 6 (even if I don't care), in the post games part.

And I want that to be more than maybe a third of the show!

and for dick. i think honestly like its about Duty for him. this is what he Has To Do to protect the kingdom its all about Duty And Service and like i dont think he feels guilty? cus it doesnt feel like hes sleeping with someone who isnt his husband its "i need an heir and this is the only way to do it." i think the one rule nix has about all this though is no kissing. they have a long discussion beforehand on the groundrules with the three of them in dicks quarters and the one thing is nix says absolutely no kissing!!!!!! thats the one thing thats off limits and then he kisses dick right in front of her to prove it and leaves

I've been worldbuilding rather than storytelling recently so I was wondering: *tries to muster the ability to make this coherent* if you're making up a world, do you feel like you gotta have a story to go in it, or are you chill to just have a sandbox by itself, and/or would you even make a world if it's not gonna have a story in it? (I hope that made sense)

So I think worldbuilding and storytelling go hand-in-hand, like bread and butter. If I'm going to go through the thought process and research to create a vivid world, I'm going to want to tell a story with it.

The worldbuilding is not my primary focus, I flesh it out enough to create conflict, define some groundrules and have a stage for the story to unfold.

I don't think I have the capacity nor the interest to make a world as its own finished product without a story attached. (The people who do are amazing, much love to those people!)

Lewis pay isn't even in the budget cap so him giving money for other strategist would be useless because somebody else would get a pay cut and more heads would not help, they need to fire people or change the way they work completely. Organisation is KEY. Make groundrules like we swap when someone is faster, we swap back when target failed. Not talking around things, working by protocoll. Like no offense they needs more structure

Because as you said organization and leadership is key and Ferrari lacks that. It’s also why I’m interested in what Fred has to say. He’s sweet and he has nice quotes about Lewis and knowing him. But I do wonder if he’s the Ferrari leader.
