A getaway during monsoon season can be a blast once your gear is ready for a shower.
The adventure starts the moment you pick a suitcase because cheap fabric bags drink in water, add weight, and can ruin everything packed inside. Your best bet is a hard-shell trolley that seals tight or a duffel made from thick, waterproof nylon.

HI. so. im going to dump a load of thoughts about this illustration on tumblr instead of bluesky because i have so many thoughts about this so please bear with me (feel free to post this if u want!)
Tumblr media
like. one of my favourite soulcrushing parts of shadowbringers grahas characterisation is ironically: how hes portrayed in post shadowbringers - a free spirit with a thirst for adventure
its so clear therefore, from how he composes himself after hes been freed from his duties at the first that he wants to see the world. reclaim the joy that he abandoned to save a world. finally live after spending thousands of years as a dead man walking. a ghost in the shell
but in shadowbringers, that graha, the adventure-loving graha, is killed. stuck at the top of the crystal tower, forever unmoving. he didnt necessarily get cut and paste into his new body, he creates a second entity with all his memories and identity.
so THIS graha, the one with the crystal arm stays dead. his story has no happy end. and i LOVE how uve specifically placed focus on his crystal arm and intentionally saturated the blue. hes transparent. fragile. ephemeral. hes a dead man walking, half tower-half man. his state is unstable, like glass, the tower slowly creeping through every part of him until hes subsumed into it. theres such a specific sense of beautiful body horror that i think your illustration plays into and highlights. the red - his signature colour is slowly being washed away with the tide of blue, like his whole self is slowly being washed away as his duties literally eat away at his life
and god. that expression. its a little unreadable - partly because hes trying to cover it up, but yet you can still SEE that quiet anguish and terror show through. hes simply too earnest. any hard face he tries to put up will fall away with time simply because not him, nor anyone, can bear the burden of a whole world.
and i know hes portrayed as happily self destructive throughout the msq, him literally concoting a brazen suicide plan to save the first and the warrior, yet we know that he is someone who appreciates life, living. he was literally able to convince an unfeeling robot that life has joy in it in endwalker, so i dont think its too much of a stretch to say that theres a part of him in shadowbringers that is intimately terrifed of his duty. the horrific trolley problem of your life against the star, where you pull the lever. and this terror is so nakedly presented in your illustration, the way he tries to hide away from it, but simply cant, the way that his stare seems both anxious, afraid, yet resigned, a grim awareness that this version of him, the one stuck in the first only has one destination: the end.
but he still fights! still tries to hide away from it, appreciate life every step along the way. gaze at the night sky that returns after eons. make his loved one some sandwiches. try to hide that gnawing inevitability of his fated death. the one that he physically cannot avoid. the one that he knows will shatter him, like a pane of glass hit by a hammer.
youve nailed almost every part of shadowbringers graha that made his story so fucking compelling!!!!! god!!!!!
i think everyone present here will enjoy reading this

Like real people do
Alfie Solomons x Fem!OC
Tumblr media Tumblr media
[warnings: WW1 setting, blood, wounds and mentions of death, angst]
masterlist | previous part
一 four
August 1917, somewhere in France
“Get me bandages!” you yelled so loud that even the dazed Tommy shot up in a startle, eyes wide in fear. “Someone get me bandages!”
You were tired. Tired of being invisible, of feeling drained of life. Tired of seeing men meet their end, most of the time in horrid conditions. The war felt never-ending, and you’d caught yourself thinking of running away a few times already, though you’d never admit it to anyone. Being a nurse was a source of pride, and what kind of coward would show off about giving up? You weren’t much better than the men who left their families at the first difficulty.
No, you weren’t strong.
You wouldn't be the model daughter if this war ended. The model woman fighting for her country. You were weak, exhausted, and terrified. The familiar smell of home had become a foreign memory, and your parents’ faces washed by bloody ones.
On the first day of August, the tents were overflowing with men. You still needed to serve lunches, but you’d been caught trying to stitch a leg up in the chaos of it all while the man screamed his lungs out. The food forgotten, all your focus went on that stranger whose life you needed to save.
“I’m almost done, alright?” you panted, trying to meet his faraway gaze. “Hold on a second, I’m almost done.”
Every day you met, cleaned, and bandaged hundreds of faces, all different but linked by the same sights. Yet, there was always one you longed to see.
Captain Solomons.
Was he alive? Had he been sent off somewhere else? Was he thinking about you at all, like you were thinking of him?
You’d learned about his title a few days before, when you’d stumbled across his name on a register. At first, you hadn’t understood why he hadn’t mentioned it—the others commonly did—but it soon dawned on you that the titles didn’t really matter anymore in a life in which tomorrow might not exist. Solomons was a man like any other. He might be gone the next day, and you'd forget him by the end of the week.
If only.
It became harder and harder to picture his face in your mind, just as it became hard for you to simply remember things. You were in a constant state of anxiousness, barely eating anymore but always trying to cheer up those who were receptive to your voice. If you were becoming a shell of yourself, then you might as well offer some humanity to those in need. As long as they stopped calling you a coward.
Still bandaging the poor man’s leg, you glanced up at his pale face and offered a supportive smile. Or what looked like one.
He gritted his teeth with each puncture.
“Is this alright?”
“Tell me I’ll walk again,” his voice reached your ears for the first time, younger than the face attached to it.
“I’ll try my best to make it as it was before,” you promised. “It’s just a matter of time, alright?”
Before the man could even respond, Mary was shouting your name across the tent. That voice was barely believable for a woman so short. She had more energy than all the nurses combined, and you flinched every time, shutting your eyes as if she were a bomb herself.
“Jesus Christ.”
Turning back to the soldier, you squeezed his arm lightly and promised you’d be back. You ran up toward Mary, wondering if you’d done something wrong. You’d checked in with the men as you’d been told, even took time to clean up the trolleys. Self-consciousness prickled at your skin when you met her upset gaze, mingling with guilt.
“That bloody pighead won’t let me touch him until he sees you,” Mary huffed, raising a brow so comically high you had to guess if she was joking.
Frowning, you stepped aside so you could have a look at his face.
She wasn’t joking.
Your gaze landed on Solomons, coughing soil and blood out of his mouth and swiping it from his face. Blood poured from his leg, staining the bedding crimson. Still, he seemed almost… calm.
An icy dread gripped you when you saw his hands. Every scar was fresh and new, forever engraved in the flesh.
“Captain.”
“Sadie, eh?” his voice finally filled your ears, and nothing had ever sounded so close to home. “Would ya like to save my life today?”
“Oh dear,” you muttered as you lunged over, tying a clean bandage around his injury to stop the blood flow.
Behind you, Mary said she was going to eat something. You didn’t pay much attention to her anymore. With a brief nod, you focused back on Solomons and told him to stay still while you cleaned the wound and picked up a needle and a thread, clutching your fist nervously. Why were you nervous for? You did that every single day.
So you started working on the gash with an odd weight on your shoulders, conscious of his pain when he cursed under his breath, although it didn’t sound English. Despite his pale face, he didn’t look like he was near fainting. Instead, he watched you with steady eyes, not bothering to look away when you glanced up to check how he was feeling.
Solomons nodded briefly, telling you wordlessly to go on.
“Why wouldn’t I save your life?” you asked when the thick silence made you uneasy, shooting another glance up at his tired face.
His face. Real. In front of you. His eyes still held the same depth from the first time you’d met him.
“Didn’t know if ya wanted to see me again," the Captain said, as if he hadn’t been close to death for a moment. “But ya see, Sadie, sounds like ya do care ‘bout me, don’t it?"
He was unbelievable. You paused, entranced by him and his ways.
“I do, actually,” you kept eye-contact, your hands trembling when he sent you the tiniest of smiles. “Now please hold still.”
You only tore your eyes away from his wound to fetch sterile dressings from the nearest trolley, putting all your attention on the blood oozing over, staining your uniform with red splatters. Solomons hissed quietly once or twice, but he was quieter than most.
You tied off the final knot firmly, not willing to do this again soon. It felt like stitching your brother up after a bad fall from the ladder—his pain became yours, and you wished you could suffer for him.
“Right,” you looked closer at the cut showing through his torn trousers, careful when you put your hand on him. “It doesn’t look too deep. I don’t think it’s going to s–”
“You’re a real beauty, Miss Murray.”
At a loss for words, you burst into a chuckle and narrowed your eyes at him. Solomons had lifted his head up to have a better look at you, not once bit of teasing in his expression. Just pure sincerity, if not awe.
“Half the men in here have told me the same, Captain.”
“Alfie, right?” he corrected you, his head falling back onto the bed. “They don’t mean it like I do. They’re lyin’ bastards, all of ‘em.”
“Well, I’ve become immune to compliments, Alfie. It was getting boring.”
You swore you saw a tiny flicker of amusement in his eyes when he glanced down at your face.
“Immune, yeah? What a sad thought that is, Sadie.”
Was that another smile on your face? Probably. Your name had rolled off his tongue like honey. Like he had said it all his life.
“Do you want to know a secret?” you added, purely chatting just to have more time with him.
You pretended to be cleaning the trolley up while you watched him nod, the sight catching in your throat. No man had ever looked so fascinated by your words before. It made you want to spill everything—to lay out your life and tell him every last detail.
“Half of them have also asked for my hand," you whispered cheekily, like sharing a bit of gossip.
“Have they?” Alfie’s words sounded light-hearted, but something serious swirled in his irises like lava.
You offered a shrug. “The morphine can mess with people’s heads. The proposals are quite the daily occurrence now, y’know.”
“Yeah, I do know. I do know. Have you told ‘em that someone’s waitin’ for you after this war is over?”
Swallowing in an attempt to slow your pulse, you turned your attention to the bloodied needle, skimming your finger over it.
His blood on your chair.
You weren’t sure who he meant, exactly.
Right then, looking back into his eyes, you wiped your finger on a dirty piece of fabric lying next to the threads and willed yourself to stop acting so odd.
Thinking such thoughts would only cause you pain. Alfie would go back to his life as you would, maybe find a wife or girlfriend to help in his bakery, and you’d be the idiot once again. Andrew was waiting for you, anyway.
“That’s my excuse to avoid insistent men,” you said after a moment.
“Right. Clever girl.”
With the ghost of a smile on your lips, you turned at the sound of the Chief Nurse bursting through the tent, a trail of other nurses hot on her heels. You didn’t think and went back to his leg, acting as if the bandage hadn’t been applied correctly. She’d come and think you were panicking again, and you couldn’t afford that. Not when your time with Alfie was so limited.
Besides, you really didn’t want to have lunch and leave him to be cared for by one of the new ones. They didn’t know what he needed. They wouldn’t get him.
“Wastin’ time on my leg while others are waitin’ for a nurse, huh. I might be the next one to ask for your hand, Sadie.”
Ignoring his last words, you grabbed a random tool and gazed back at him. “I’m due my lunch break. Someone’s replacing me.”
“Wastin’ your lunch break on me, yeah,” Alfie teased, wiping his sweaty forehead with his dirty hand.
“Not wasting. Taking the opportunity.”
“Right,” he slightly narrowed his eyes at you and at the tool that was usually used in much bloodier circumstances. "When do you take the opportunity to eat, eh?"
Your blood heated, just like on the day Andrew had first kissed your thighs. He cared.
“I’m just making sure you’ll heal nicely.”
“You do your job, nurse.”
You smiled up at him, sheepish. Behind you, the Chief Nurse was shouting at the girls to speed up and a man yelled at them to let him die.
Wanting to bring Alfie some comfort–or maybe to yourself–you brushed a gentle thumb on his forehead, wiping off the soil.
"What happened?" It came out lower than intended, as if afraid to stir things up.
Alfie thought for a minute. His hand started shaking by his side, but he remained calm.
“Got stuck in a mine,” his voice turned more solemn, raspy. “Did everything I could to get out. I don’t think the others made it.”
Hesitantly, you put your hand on the leg that wasn’t hurt and squeezed lightly.
“You’re safe now, Alfie. You can rest up.”
His focus narrowed as if peering through a tunnel; as if all he saw was you and the black circles under your eyes.
“It’s not my blood,” he added, drawing your attention to the red spots on his neck. “There was this wop, clutchin’ at my neck. I shoved a nail all the way up his fuckin’ nose. Watched him die without feelin’ anythin’. Not one sorry feelin’ in my bones, Sadie.”
You knew he was testing you. Knew he was only saying this to see how you would react, and how fast you would run away from him. Only you didn’t, and you didn’t want to. Maybe because he was the only person who’d truly seen you since arriving here beside Ellen, and he was the kind soul you’d prayed to meet for two years. You’d saved him, yes, but you could also think he’d saved you in some ways. With his words, with his understanding.
“You did what you had to do.”
Alfie didn’t say anything. He kept his eyes on the pillow, blinking slowly at the ceiling. The conversation had drained him.
“I…” you swallowed hard, pretending to organise the tools on the trolley by lengths. “I’ll get you some water. For your throat.”
He gave you a small nod, his eyes trained on you as you crossed the tent and went out, barely recognising yourself. His compliance was so soft, so intense, that it made you breathless. It was dangerous to find comfort in this war, knowing it could be taken away at any time. You couldn’t allow your heart to be compromised.
So you didn’t meet his gaze as you handed him the glass of water, staying just close enough to ensure he drank it. Of course, you cared. You just weren’t sure why—or if it even mattered.
Then you walked back to the Tommy you’d tended to, who was now sobbing quietly to himself. Across the room, Alfie seemed to find the sight of you a miracle—his eyes traced your movements, lingering like he was afraid you might disappear if he looked away.

Ghosts and Banshees (Simon 'Ghost' Riley x Reader) - Part 2
Tumblr media
Author's Note: Thank you for the love shown on the first imagine I posted. I appreciate the support therefore I decided to write a Part 2. Let me know what you think. Minerva 🐦‍⬛
Summary: The new recruits get to have a taste of Y/N and Ghost does as well. She might've left a bit of a bitter taste on one specific recruit but not on Simon's tongue.
Warnings: Language, slight degrading, threatening
•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°
Y/N set down the boxes she brought with her from home filled with decorations. "This apartment needs a makeover." She talked to herself. With her music on, she started dusting and washing the place, occasionally flexing a move to the beat and singing along. Until she settled in, Price was generous to offer her a couple of days off to get to know their routine and to settle in her apartment comfortably. The living room was the first room that introduced the apartment, a couch and two armchairs adorned the area with a balcony to her left.
Walking right was a small kitchen with a dinner table and some chairs. The bedroom and bathroom were situated on either side of the corridor and a small office area where she could work on mission files. She couldn't complain as it was perfect for at least 2 people to live in.
Price was also generous to offer her her own office as a medic since she had the qualifications and nonetheless experience. Gaz, Soap and Ghost were decided to help her out with her luggage and boxes up to her apartment.
"Are ye plannin' on staying a decade?" Soap teased when he saw her unpack her clothes from the luggage and hang them into her wardrobe.
"With this occupation I don't think I'll make it that far." She giggled looking over to the boxes with labels on them. "Gaz, would you be so kind to take that box to the living room please? I don't know why I brought it in the bedroom to be honest." Gaz obliged and exited the room.
Tumblr media
In the hassle of unpacking and cracking jokes, Ghost stayed silent until something caught his eye. From the corner of his eye, in the open luggage, he spotted something or more like some things that made his cock twitch. Underwear. Not just anyone's underwear. Lacey black and red underwater, thin strings (poor excuse for an underwear) that to his imagination could barely cover his palm. He swallowed hard as his eyes were glued to her lingerie. From thongs to g strings to lace underwear, Ghost felt his pants tighten and his face flush. Thank God for his balaclava.
"Ye alright Simon? Ye haven't said a word." Soap snapped him from his thoughts.
"Yeah I'm 'right." He said curtly.
"Ah, I didn't know your name was Simon!" Y/N exclaimed. Unbeknownst to her she took the exposed luggage that has Simon's undivided attention and pulled it towards the chest of drawers. "Is he any different from Ghost?" She teased as she folded her clothes in.
Ghost didn't even know how to answer her. Simon was a soft and a gentle man despite his past. Naturally, due to his line of work a tough shell is required and frankly he never sought to be in any relationships due to time (or the lack of it) and the dangers the job carries. He wouldn't fathom to put someone in danger or put them in a mentally challenging state especially if a mission goes south and he ends up on the other end of the gun. He wasn't selfish in that matter.
"Depends." He shrugged, praying she switches the topic. He never liked being the centre of attention although the mask he wore said otherwise. He looked over the apartment in general and took in the smell of fresh linen candles and talc, the blankets laid neatly on the couch and armchairs, the trolley full of books situated near one of the armchairs with fairy lights hanging around the living room.
It looked magical.
It looked like Y/N.
***
On Wednesday morning, Y/N woke bright and early for the new day. It was her first day training recruits. As soon as she opened the food she found Ghost in front of her closing his door as well.
"Ah, so we're neighbors as well." Y/N exclaimed, earning a scoff from Simon.
He hates me. She thought.
Why the fuck did I scoff? It was supposed to be a chuckle. He thought.
"I assume you're heading to the mess hall." Y/N said trying hey best to ignore the awkward moment.
"Yes we are." Gaz came up from behind them, putting his arms out until they tested on each of their shoulders. Together they walked together to the mess hall where they found Price and Soap already stuffing their faces in their breakfast.
"Good morning bonnie!" Soap smiled.
Tumblr media
"Good morning lass." Price greeted her as she took a seat next to him, earning her a pat on her back. "Ready for the day? You've got your first class starting at 8am. You'll have Ghost with you just in case they cause you trouble." Ghost who was sitting opposite Y/N watching as she stuffed her face with food, nodding at Price.
She looks cute with her mouth stuffed. What the fuck Simon! Get it together! Simon mentally slapped himself. Lifting his mask above his lips, Y/N watched him sip his tea. His eyes never left her face as he swallowed.
***
While Ghost showed Y/N around, the recruits slowly filed in the training room, eyeing the sole woman amongst them. Some guffawed and some could barely walk from sleep.
"Good morning, I am Sergeant Y/N and I will be your instructor for the next couple of weeks. Lieutenant Ghost will be present today and will naturally be grading you according to your progress. Any questions?" Y/N scanned the boys in front of her.
"Actually I have one." A tall, lean boy walked towards her. "It's actually more of a concern really. How long do you intend on teaching us? Because frankly I don't want to fall back on our training due to...feminine distractions." His friends behind him chuckled and guffawed at his comment. Y/N looked behind her to find Ghost sitting on the box still, staring at Y/N waiting for her reply to the recruit. One could say that although Ghost had his poker face on, he wanted to punch the recruit in the throat for disrespecting her but he let her take the reins on this one.
Sucking her teeth and a breath in she stalked towards the boy, smirking. "What's your name recruit?"
"Thomas Boyd." He replied with a cocky grin on his face.
"Well, Thomas. If you get distracted easily, you shouldn't really be here... especially if you get distracted by a woman because I'm going to be here for a while." You retorted. Simon smiled under his balaclava, chuckling. Thomas, on the other hand, felt his cheeks grow red. Licking his lips, he brushed off the momentary embarrassment and quickly moved close in front of Y/N, face to face, looking down at her. Ghost immediately stood on his feet and flew behind Y/N. She was basically sandwiched between Ghost and Thomas. Feeling the presence behind her, she gently put a hand on Ghost's chest to tell him that she's fine without breaking eye contact with Thomas.
"If you think that a meek little girl like you can handle a group of men like us -" Thomas didn't get the chance to finish the sentence before Y/N actually pushed Ghost back, sending him stumbling, linked her right arm around Thomas's neck in a tight grip, pulled his body weight over her hips and slammed him to the floor. Two crossed knives were resting against Thomas's neck. Out of breath from the shock he felt the cold metal gently pressing against his carotid artery.
"This meek little girl could castrate you on the spot without you even noticing. So I suggest that you shut your mouth and run 20 laps. In fact, add another 5 to that until you learn your place with me. I am not here to be your friend. I am your superior and you will obey me whether you like it or not! If you don't I can show you or even better throw you out the door and trust me you won't find your way back here. So do not underestimate me. And since I'm suddenly feeling generous everyone will do the laps with you." Y/N spat, anger seething through her veins like venom. If looks could kill, Thomas would be a dead man. Her eyes were shooting daggers like icicles at him. Thomas tried to compose himself underneath her from the whiplash. His eyes traveled over to Ghost who was standing tall a few feet away from Y/N.
Lifting herself off Thomas, she looked at the rest of the class who were dumbfounded as she put her knives away. While Thomas laid on the floor in pure silence Ghost marched over to him grabbing him by the hem of his collar and pulling him to his feet with brute force. "You have a big fucking mouth for someone with such a small dick." Ghost whispered in his ear. "If I catch you opening your mouth to her unless it's an apology coming out, I will not only let her castrate you but I will rip you a new arsehole. Understood?" His grip tightened around his shirt. Thomas nodded frantically. Throwing him back on his friends, Ghost looked at the recruits in front of him.
"You heard her! 25 laps around the block! Go!" Ghost shouted. And they all scrambled together and started running for their lives. They had a new person to be scared of. Ghost walked back to Y/N who watched the initiates run.
"Are you okay?" He asked gently, looking over at her.
Tumblr media
"Yeah," She replied. "Do you think I went overboard?" She asked him, looking up at the behemoth next to her. He chuckled.
"I told him I'd rip him a new one. So no, you didn't go overboard." He replied making her giggle softly. "You handled it well." He looked back down at her standing tall and confident next to him. The height difference would've made any girl envious.
"Come on, let's get some training in while they do their drills." Ghost lead Y/N to the mat a few feet away from them. As he watched dher hips slightly sway all Ghost could think about was that she was a little firecracker and that he was both a bit scared and turned on by it.
Focus Simon, for fuck's sake. Focus.

Cassian necked five pints at the airport and spent most of the flight asleep under Brasso’s coat. Brasso has no real memory of him moving, but when he reclaimed his jacket it was loaded with trolley-sized bottles of JD, and now it clinks tellingly as Brasso makes his way through the resort’s cramped corner shop.
The owner squints at him from the far side of the international crisp aisle, and Brasso wants to say I’m not your problem here, but that wouldn’t be strictly true. Brasso has been part of the problem since he was twenty three and didn’t dob Cassian in for stealing from his young offenders’ apprenticeship. Since then they’ve been two halves of the same crime: the guilty party (outside, smoking, getting sworn at in Catalan by 12 year olds) and the one responsible (inside, clinking, making a resigned, supervisory face at the cashier).
When he pays up the cashier peers judgementally into his basket, as if 90% of his clientele aren't after the same combination of Pot Noodle, cans and overpriced factor 10. Brasso's about to make a joke out of it when he says, "You need to get him to stop that," with a nod toward the door, and Brasso turns to see Cassian has negotiated a truce with the children by handing out the last of their cigarettes.
"We're down by the beach," Brasso promises. "We won't be around much." Those are both lies, but he can keep Cassian out of view, probably. Stash him between the novelty beach towels and racks of glittery jelly shoes and hope his hideous fucking patterned shirt blends in. The only reason Brasso hasn't been ripping him about it constantly since they set off is that it's so awful he suspects it was Clem's.
He gets forty Richmond just to make the cashier glare and heads outside to discover what sort of trouble has coalesced around Cassian in his absence, only to find that the children have been dismissed and Cassian is staring at him, face hard, nails newly bitten. "You've brought us to the shitty island," he accuses, as if he thought they were going to Ibiza. He'd actually been uncharacteristically passive while Brasso threw this whole thing together, so maybe he did.
"We're on the Pegla's-nan's-free-apartment island," Brasso corrects him. "Sorry it's not ideal for a rager."
"I know you're decrepit - " Brasso is twenty nine, thank you "but not all of us have given up on life."
"You said you needed to lie low."
"That doesn't mean be bored."
"What did you think it meant?"
"I - " Cassian flounders. "I just didn't expect to be here."
"Cos you didn't fucking help," Brasso points out, but he doesn't add that Cassian brought this on himself in the first place, and in return Cassian takes one of the creaking carrier bags for the schlep up the hill.
"Pegla likes you better."
That's true, Brasso thinks, but people tend to like doing things for Cassian more. He's fun to indulge: wide-eyed enough that you feel good about helping him, shifty enough that you feel rebellious doing it. He could have found himself a bolt hole easily. There's no real reason for Brasso to be here at all. Well, no - to stop Cassian drinking alone and making another set of terrible friends, maybe. To stop Cassian filling the flat with anyone else.
The flat, when they find it, is wedged in the middle floor of a relative high rise, four white-and-terracotta rooms groaning under the weight of Pegla's nan's knicknack collection. There's not a single surface that isn't occupied by a doily or a commemorative plate or one of a seemingly endless set of pink clam shell ashtrays; the clock and the fruitbowl and the light fitting are all bakelite relics from the days when the only good household fixture was one that looked like an exotic, sunbursting weapon; every dish in the kitchen is smoked glass; every furniture that can be nested, nests.
"That's 'your place or mine?' answered, then," Brasso says, dumping his suitcase in a bedroom largely given over by a set of ragdoll donkeys in the costumes of the world.
"Girls will love this," Cassian shouts from the kitchen. "We bring them here. We give them some sangria. We give them tea from a clock and… whatever this is -"
"It's for oranges." Brasso's nan had one. Had the clock, too, and a similar rug. The whole place feels like it should smell of tinned potatoes and death.
"- oranges, on a plate with the queen's face. They'll love that. We take them out on the balcony - "
"Are you sure you've done this before?"
"Trust me, we go out onto the balcony -"
"We go over to the hotel," Brasso says, "and we pretend we're part of the all-in, and then we have sex in the pool like normal people."
"We're lying low."
"Not this low, I'll have nightmares." The donkeys have multiplied since he came in. "Come on."
"I don't want attention."
"That's a fucking lie."
"You're not supposed to encourage me," Cassian complains. He's right, but fuck it - Brasso's on holiday too.

okay. just trolley problem things:
at this point in the novel the tension and the emotional weight is wound up really high and things are really just primed for the impending mess to say important things about the characters in new and interesting ways. i think the main piece is the contrast between zzs' careless attitude in the carriage post Zhang kidnapping sort of smugly dismissing jby's veiled reservations and the version of him in jby's courtyard in the middle of the night, disheveled and shell shocked because he really hadnt thought this would happen. he was fully confident he could keep ljx in the dark forever, and even then maybe didn't expect ljx to condemn him so thoroughly.
i try really hard when considering jby and zzs to not extrapolate too far beyond the bounds of the characters as presented in the (somewhat notoriously biased) narration. both are presented as and also shown at times to be cold, ruthless, unfeeling etc. that's a starting point. i do think we can look at the whole picture and see the other more human aspects of these characters too, both explicitly stated and not, but if you rush into those hidden emotional depths and forget the rest you get word of honor really woobie really fast and that's SUCH A SHAME to lose sight of these characters who are so fascinating BECAUSE of their worst traits and actions. so I always try to start by explaining their behavior the way they would explain it- in terms of political gain, calculation, masks, power.
the really fun part comes when none of those things are enough to explain anymore, at least not in entirety, and you get to peek at the really raw soft inner shells of the remorseless war criminals <3 i'm getting into the weeds here let's go back to the courtyard.
zzs is in jby's courtyard in the middle of the night and he's visibly a wreck. this is wild because up until this point zzs is rarely visibly Anything. he's in the background, he's going unnoticed, he's this perfectly cool and collected tool of the empire.
but something unthinkable just happened, which was a risk that he was taking blew up in his face. and the first thing he does, maybe the only thing he can do, after trying to contain the problem (ljx), is go to jby.
so, the narrative explanation. jby is an ally but he's also very smart and seemingly good at dealing with people, very politically savvy. zzs has a potential threat to their shared mission which is hly's ascension, if ljx tells everyone how much blood is on the party's hands that's not going to happen. so logically zzs specifically needs his partner in crimes' help to mitigate that threat to their goal. additionally jby knows the situation, he knows ljx well and he also understands the relationship between zzs and ljx. all logical and true and as such it only makes sense that the first thing jby does is say okay hold on let me handle this.
aaa. okay. yeah no despite the fact that it's the middle of the night and theoretically ljx is imprisoned and could probably be kept at least until the morning. he just tells zzs to bring him to ljx. yes this is like mission critical politics, for sure, but i think also he's very driven to resolve things as soon as possible for emotional reasons.
what emotional reasons? well. there's the vividly fresh parallel to ji xiang, whose recent corpse is also in the courtyard. just for extra devastation zzs pulls back the sheet and says "you brought him along to go to the guangs, and you didn't keep him?" and jby says. "i wanted to keep him. but i couldn't." ji xiang was a good servant to jby for a decade, but when he tried to betray jby (and zzs) to su qingluan to save his girlfriend, he got himself killed. ji xiang is nowhere on the level of ljx who is both shidi and the only scrap of normalcy/link to zzs's past, but they're both young innocents who are pulled into the deadly political morass that jby and zzs are wading in by proximity (and crucially by exposing its corruption). jby is privately pretty depressed about the incident and explicitly states to wu xi (as explicit as he gets, anyway) that he hates seeing this happen, but can't do anything to stop it. i think, even so, he wants to do everything possible to try to keep ljx from the same fate.
there's also the question of favors and debts. after all this is over, zzs offers to take jby for a drink in exchange (understatement). jby replies that he owed zzs. now in the current timeline zzs has uncovered jby's estate purchasing property outside the capitol and it's not quite clear but i think zzs correctly surmises that this is some sort of backup plan or escape framework. in another scene that makes me !?!?!!? about them zzs confronts jby about this and jby can do nothing but ask zzs to cut him some slack. and. zzs. does. just shrugs and torches the evidence right there in the candle flame. jby certainly owes him for that. i think that's something of a smaller parallel to first life zzs warning jby about the plot against him. again, scene isn't perfectly clear, but i think zzs meant that conversation as a warning- cover your tracks better, people are watching. that's why he so easily acquiesces to letting jby off the hook. point made, he destroys the evidence to protect his friend, or even to gain a favor in the future. what im saying is that zzs has had jby's back before, in multiple lives, and jby doesn't take that lightly.
(on reread it's also pretty clear also that jby thinks the incident is his fault, having kept ljx at his estate overnight but no later- ljx still managed to slip out early enough to discover the bodies. so jby definitely views this as trying to fix his own mistake here, although zzs never seems to hold it against him. possibly this is what he means when he says he owed zzs, but i think there's a lot more there as well.)
and finally i have to get into a little more esoteric take but it's actually the way the scene really hit me the first time i read it. what came across from the way jby handles the situation was defensiveness. he correctly reads the situation as a threat and he storms into ljx's holding room and scolds him (violently! no relying on charm here) for his childish ideas of righteousness. ljx said that zzs should pay with his life for his crimes and jby says no, you don't understand the context. jby is defending zzs's actions to ljx and trying to get ljx to see zzs in a more understanding if not forgiving light. jby is doing this because 1. it's key to keeping ljx from exposing them and destabilizing the precarious political situation 2. zzs is his friend and he doesn't want to see him harmed 3. zzs and jby are the same. they are wrapped up together in this. they are in this so much deeper than anyone else and are bound together by it. when ji xiang spoke up to reveal their plot to su qingluan, which ljx overheard, he mentions them both in the same breath. jby defending why zzs has done the things he's done is jby defending his own actions. it's personal. he's defensive of zzs but he's really defending the both of them. because they are the same.

Suitcase Bags: A Classic Choice for Stress-Free Travel
When you’re getting ready for a trip — whether it’s a family holiday, a business visit, or even moving to a new place — the right bag can make a big difference. Over the years, suitcase bags have remained a favorite for travelers around the world.
Why? Because they are strong, spacious, and make carrying your belongings much easier. In this blog, let’s explore why suitcase bags are still the best choice for many people, what makes them special, and how to pick the right one.
Why Do People Still Prefer Suitcase Bags?
Even with so many new types of bags in the market — backpacks, duffels, and trolley bags — suitcase bags have their own charm and usefulness. Here are a few reasons why:
1. Spacious and Organized
Suitcase bags give you a lot of space to pack your clothes, shoes, toiletries, and even souvenirs. Many come with separate compartments and straps to keep everything in place and wrinkle-free.
2. Easy to Handle
Thanks to wheels and extendable handles, suitcase bags are easy to move around, even if they’re full. You don’t have to carry the weight on your shoulders — just roll it along.
3. Strong and Durable
Suitcase bags, especially hard-shell ones, protect your belongings from getting crushed or damaged. They are perfect if you’re carrying fragile items.
4. Professional Look
For business trips or formal occasions, a neat suitcase gives you a more polished and organized appearance compared to casual bags.
Types of Suitcase Bags You Can Choose From
If you’re thinking of buying a suitcase, it helps to know the options:
Hard-Shell Suitcases
Made of strong materials like polycarbonate or ABS.
Protects delicate items and looks sleek.
Water-resistant and easy to clean.
Soft-Shell Suitcases
Made of fabric, lighter and flexible.
Can fit into tight spaces more easily.
Often comes with extra pockets outside for quick access.
Two-Wheel or Four-Wheel
Two-wheel suitcases are stable on rough surfaces.
Four-wheel (spinner) suitcases move effortlessly in all directions.
Tips for Choosing the Right Suitcase Bag
Here are some things to keep in mind before buying:
Check the Size: Make sure it fits airline rules if you’re flying.
Look at the Weight: A lighter suitcase gives you more allowance for your belongings.
Test the Wheels & Handles: They should move smoothly and feel sturdy.
Think About Security: Zippers should be strong, and locks (preferably TSA-approved) help keep your items safe.
Pick a Color or Pattern You Can Spot: Makes it easy to find on the baggage belt.
When is a Suitcase Bag Better Than Other Bags?
When you’re going on a long trip and need to pack more.
When you’re carrying formal clothes that need to stay neat.
When you’re transporting breakable or expensive items.
When you prefer not to carry weight on your back or shoulders.
Final Thoughts
A suitcase bag is more than just luggage — it’s your travel companion. It helps you pack smartly, move comfortably, and travel with confidence. Whether you pick a sleek hard-shell or a flexible soft-shell, investing in a good suitcase saves you time, stress, and even money in the long run.
So, next time you plan your trip, think of the suitcase not just as a bag, but as a reliable partner that keeps your journey smooth and organized.

🎮 My Favorite Gaming Gear This Month: The Gamorr GamersBox Portable Monitor (Yes, It’s Worth It)
You ever try to take your console over to a friend's place or on a weekend trip? Next thing you know, you're carrying around five different things—monitor, cables, power supply, maybe a stand, and your actual console?
Been there. Hated that. And then I discovered the Gamorr GamersBox Portable Gaming Monitor, and I've been using it nearly every day since.
✨ What Even Is the Gamorr GamersBox? It's a 21.5" Full HD IPS screen (up to 75Hz with FreeSync) housed in a durable, wheeled hard-shell case. You unzip the bundle, plug in your Xbox or PS5, and you're gaming in seconds.
No monitor stand. No cable nightmare. No stress.
It even has built-in HDMI, VESA mounting support, and a travel trolley handle. You can roll it like carry-on bags.
🛒 Here's where I purchased it from (Qatar-based): https://onaiza.qa/en/product/844eaae5-60b3-438d-81ef-a388b0283794/
💬 Real Talk: Is It Just a Gimmick?
No. No, really. It's so handy. I use it when I:
Gaming nights with friends ????
Stream games from another console ????
Don’t want to mess with my main setup ????
Business trip (and squeeze in some gaming on the side) ✈️
And for 1399 QAR, I was not expecting it to be this premium or this durable.
It is rated IP65, meaning that it can withstand a bit of rain, dust, and even rough handling.
🔥 Why I Recommend Onaiza.qa (If You're in Qatar, in Particular)
I purchased mine from Onaiza.qa directly, and this is why I'll likely order from them again:
🛵 Fast local delivery
💰 Cash on delivery, Play later available
💬 WhatsApp basic support: +974 66485898
🏆 Best price I found in Qatar
They're game-tech oriented, so they understand what gamers are really searching for—not general listings. ???? TL;DR If you're in Qatar and tired of lugging your entire rig each time you leave the house—or you simply desire a cleaner, portability-friendly gaming monitor—you won't go wrong with opting for the Gamorr GamersBox. It's strong, lightweight, and greatly facilitates console gaming. ???? Take a look here: ???? https://onaiza.qa/en/product/844eaae5-60b3-438d-81ef-a388b0283794/

The Hidden Journey of a Suitcase: From Factory Floor to International Traveler
Ever stop to think where your luggage came from? Not just the store — I mean really came from.
Behind every trolley, duffel, or hard-shell spinner is a chain of creators: 👨‍🏭 Designers 🏭 Manufacturers 🌍 Exporters 🧾 Distributors ✈️ And finally… you, the traveler.
For those of us on the business side — sourcing, supplying, or reselling — the magic happens way before check-in. Choosing the right B2B platform for luggage trade is like choosing the right suitcase for a world tour: it has to fit your goals, hold up under pressure, and open up real opportunities.
📌 If you’re a luggage supplier (especially in India), I’ve been loving Pepagora — super focused, niche-driven, and actually made for manufacturers who want to grow internationally without getting lost on massive platforms.
Sometimes the best journeys start with the right connection.
