SPY X FAMILY CHAPTER 120 SPOILERS BELOWWWWWW

God. Was I expecting a Yor confession immediately after 119? No. Did I eat up every second of it? Yes.

In my last post, I was talking about how our main three characters view their relationships with one another. I wondered if Anya loved her father, which she does, “more than omurice”

This moment was just between Anya and Yor, allowing them both to be honest without the subject of their conversation with them. Anya, again has that innocence of a child, and represents the love a child has for their father. Anya knows the nature of her relationship with her father and in a way has accepted it.

What’s interesting is Yor.

Now, I’m very grateful for this chapter, because it shows that Yor is much smarter than people want to admit. I know the subject of her intelligence is played up for laughs, even Anya pokes at it, but here, I’m referring to her emotional intelligence.

There is some significance to these two panels.

1) they’re split in two. It gives the reveal more depth. The first panel focuses on Anya, it shows how her interest is piqued. The second panel splitting between the two focuses on Yor, but also Anya. The two are being honest with each other, Yor’s smile and Anya’s expression are genuine feelings.

2) Okay, look at Anya’s reaction. Anya was just talking to Becky about “her feelings” for Damian. She doesn’t quite understand romantic love, and while Becky ships them hard, Becky is 6, she hardly gets it herself. But Anya, a telepath, still doesn’t get what Yor means by loving Loid. I think that this confession has opened Anya’s eyes a bit, that she’ll start getting the idea of romantic love, not only between her parents, but eventually her and Damian. She’s starting to see it. Anya is growing up. Even with the way she’s doing fractions and learning. It’s been six months in universe and because of her parents and the socialization at school, Anya is learning all types of love. Familial, platonic, romantic, and self love.

Yor says “I might be in love with Loid” we didn’t have a bunch of flashbacks or evidence of some sort to allow us to see how Yor made this conclusion. We saw that moment building up from the last chapter, but it’s been a long time coming. Yor has always admired Loid for accepting her and being a good father towards Anya. Although Yor isn’t able to fully verbalize it towards Anya, she understands that the love she feels for Loid is a different kind. Again, because Loid isn’t there, Yor feels comfortable telling her daughter that she loves her fake husband. I think as the story goes on, we’ll have Yor explain her feelings more into depth. This is just the beginning. We’ll find her being more flirtatious, noticing more things about him, being a little a more comfortable.

And then this line!!

Yor is harboring so much guilt and negative feelings; she thinks her being an assassin means she can’t be with Loid (and little does she know he’s also hiding a secret!) She has little self esteem. Remember when her coworkers said early in the series that Yor had potential? Yor hardly saw herself as beautiful, and then here comes Twilight/Loid calling her beautiful and wanting a fake marriage with her. (And a side note: I think Loid was being honest here about her beauty, even if he was using that sentence to manipulate her). She feels like her feelings will complicate the contract for Loid. Even when discussing her feelings, she keeps thinking of Loid. This is how you know she truly cares for him. It’s just said that she denies herself romantic love.

She makes Anya promise not tell Loid. And Anya reads her mind at that time. Maybe she understands how serious her mom’s feelings are. Maybe she sees how much her mom doubts herself and holds so much guilt and shame over her career.

Which is why the reveal is going to be so painful, yet so delicious. Yor is doing the exact thing Loid keeps trying to fight against. Putting her feelings into the situation. But while this is a mission for Loid, it’s becoming more for her. The big question is, will Loid realize and confess before the reveal ? There’s so many things in between, Desmond, Project Apple, Melinda, Yuri and the SSS… so I don’t feel like we’re getting that any time soon. Loid has a long way to go, but I believe that Endo has already set the foundation for him. From noticing how close Yuri and Yor were in the early chapters, to him talking to Franky in the bar after Yor rejected him, when he was thinking about his family at the dog park and then after the Wheeler arc. I think a lot of people focus on Loid falling in love, Loid confessing, but I think it’s so fun to explore Yor as a character more and how their relationship grows from her perspective.

Matt always knew there’d come a day when things would start to shift. The coloring books would get left on the shelf more often. Cartoons replaced by music. Stuffed animals slowly traded for earbuds and hoodies and notebooks full of scribbles he wasn’t allowed to read. But nothing really prepared him for it.

Especially not the moment when his daughter, small and quiet and fidgeting with the sleeve of her oversized t-shirt, walked into the living room with a look that stopped him mid-scroll. She stood in the doorway, barely looking up.

“Hey, bug,” he said gently, putting his phone down. “You okay?”

She nodded quickly. Too quickly.

Matt sat up straighter. “Come here.”

She hesitated before padding over to him, climbing onto the couch but sitting on the opposite side like the space between them helped make it easier to say whatever it was she was holding in.

“Did something happen at school?”

She shook her head. Still not meeting his eyes. Her fingers picked at the hem of her shirt.

He waited. Patient, but not pushing.

“I, um…” her voice cracked slightly, then she forced it quieter. “I think I need a bra.”

Matt blinked.

There was a beat of silence.

Then his chest softened immediately. “Okay,” he said gently, like it was the most normal thing in the world. Because it was.

She still wouldn’t look at him. “I didn’t wanna ask. I thought it’d be weird.”

Matt’s heart tugged. “Weird? Bug, nothing about growing up is weird. It’s just new. And it’s okay to need new things.”

She finally looked at him, her eyes watery, lip slightly trembling. “But you don’t know girl stuff.”

Matt smiled at that. “No, I don’t. But I know you. And I know when something matters to you, it matters to me.”

She let out a breath—part relief, part disbelief.

“You’re not mad?”

“Mad?” he repeated, scooting closer. “Sweetheart, I’m proud of you. You were nervous, but you told me anyway. That’s brave.”

She didn’t say anything at first, just curled into his side, pressing her face into his hoodie. He wrapped his arm around her and kissed the top of her head.

“Wanna go tomorrow? We can make a whole thing of it. Get you what you need, then go for smoothies or something.”

She nodded into his chest.

“And you can tell me what to look for—styles, colors, all that stuff. You’re the boss.”

Finally, a small laugh. “I want one with a little flower on it.”

“A flower,” Matt said, grinning. “Noted. The flowerest flower they’ve got.”

She giggled now, and he felt her shoulders relax, tension slipping away like sand through fingers.

Later that night, after she’d gone to bed and the house was quiet, Matt found himself scrolling through articles and videos: “How to support your daughter through puberty,” “first bras for pre-teens,” “dads and daughters: the growing-up talk.” A little lost, but determined to get it right.

Because she’d been brave enough to ask.

And that meant everything.

The reason those C3 fans shit the bricks over the Charity stream was because they viewed the charity stream as a win for them and bells hells. Not like you know, an actual good thing to help people in need. Because when it was announced they were in the qrts and on twt yelling that the cast closing to play as Bells Hells was cause they loved them above all. That BH were "winning" because MN didn't get one shots while airing. No1 expected anyone BUT BH to be played so they were fighting air tbh.

Here is what gets me, as a person who does not follow sports in any form: The Mighty Nein are a juggernaut of popularity within the fandom. I think this is for the most part deserved and I also think a lot of fans of C1 who never vibed with any later campaigns are simply not active in fandom any more since it's been 7 years, and Critical Role had more recognition with Campaign 2, so like, numbers within active social media fandom are not a perfect indicator of quality, itself a subjective measure.

HOWEVER. If you want your team to win, the most efficient way to do that is to start rooting for the winning team. I get that this is considered treasonous to genuine fans of sports. But like, if your biggest priority is Number Is Bigger then there is an obvious solution and it's called jumping on the bandwagon. Otherwise, perhaps you should consider a different metric, such as "did I have fun at this game? Were the snacks good? Were there some cool plays?" (from this you can see my priorities re: live sports namely are my friends here and did I get some nachos and a beer but you get my point). Honestly, this is how I and a lot of other people have been approaching Bells Hells week to week for some time now: were there some cool scenes? Did the character they liked most at the time say something funny? Did NPCs do anything? Were the fight mechanics interesting?

I have a post that I am saving for next week about specific elements of C3 that goes into more depth but I feel like Campaign 3's fandom in particular fell to a certain attitude that feels very specific to a younger (to me, an ancient crone, so like, mid-20s) crowd, of obsessing over numbers: how many fics. how many notes. how much screentime. can you believe that Episode 100 didn't even have Bells Hells in it????? And it's like. who the fuck cares. Is it good? Is it satisfying? Because right now we're watching you guys all admit it hasn't been and 120 episodes in you were waiting for the campaign to REALLY begin.

I don't think the cast dislikes Bells Hells! I think they all like all of their characters, and frankly when the cast gets asked directly a lot of them go with a "you never forget your first" and give their VM character anyway so like, the vitriol at the Mighty Nein really is a petty popularity contest in the end. But Bells Hells are the party that the cast happened to be playing during the Moon Plot Campaign and the party that the cast happened to be playing at the time of the livestream. None of the three main parties are uniquely special. They are special to their individual fans.

I made the Elon Musk comparison for C3 fans earlier this week and I don't want to go too hard since like, he is truly horrible, and I do think that a lot of C3 fans, while currently shitty self-absorbed people, are also quite young and it is my hope that a sharp but ultimately harmless disappointment like this campaign might shock them into fixing their hearts, but the final lines of this post came to mind while writing up a lot of my responses: "And in fact I would argue that seeking to put yourself above other people is inherently going to leave you empty, because egotistical as you may be, you've adopted a values system where your sense of self worth intrinsically depends on other people. Congratulations, you played yourself."

If your day can be ruined because your blorbo wasn't present for 100% of a live stream for charity and the cast likes all of their characters? You should work on that! I'm not saying it's easy or fun but it really is a thing you should work on because right now, the worst thing that's going to happen to you is people laughing at your misfortune on social media. I've always harboured a mild dislike for x reader stuff. I never really held it against people because I don't have the time to antagonise them, but it was so upsetting when every time I opened the fandom tag and all I saw were posts and posts and posts of bland x reader stuff that clearly is ooc with no real substance to them at all. So many of the RP blogs seem the same way.

As someone who tries to make analysis posts and art for the same fandom, it is disheartening when I spend hours and hours on an analysis post about a character and it maybe hits 120 notes while an OOC x reader of the same character soars to the thousands. Maybe it's selfish of me to say but I say it anyway.

The fandom is full of youngsters and I never felt comfortable voicing my opinion for the same because it just felt wrong to tell kids to stop existing in communities. But the amount of times I've been put down for shipping characters with each other rather than myself is an honestly surprising number.

Um. I don't really know where I was going with this.

But your post definitely opened my eyes a little bit on even why I dislike x reader so much. It's sinking in a little bit. My hatred for OOC stuff seeps into this, I suppose. So I wanted to say that. Yeah. I agree with you.

I know self shippers have always existed.

I don't mind them. If that's how you enjoy the media, then fine.

However.

I just don't think that the sudden rise of self shippers over fan analysis and shipping is a good sign.

I think it comes from a lack of media literacy and willingness to actually engage with a piece of fiction. At least shippers and fan analysts actually talk about the world and plot itself.

self shippers imagine themselves dating a character in an au that is completely disconnected from the story, and acting in a way that's not even close to how they are in canon.

which to me is like... you have a creative writing prompt but it's not a story you're actually engaging with. someone showed you a picture of a handsome man and said write a story about how he'd kiss you.

I thought the whole point of fiction was to dive into the human experience and try and understand ourselves better. See the perspectives of others. Live vicariously in another person's shoes.

You're growing as a person as you decide what you like or don't like, or try to put together puzzle pieces so that the whole picture makes sense. Shipping? You're imagining scenarios. You're bending canon to fit your interests. You are developing your own ability to write characters, and growing as an artist and a writer.

* I finally got to refurbishing this shelf camera I’ve had for over 20 years and took it out for a “spin” last week.

This is the result.

I absolutely love the 6x9 negatives. I really need to work on the settings (I think the dials are slightly off) on this camera, and going to actually take notes next time I take it out (tomorrow?), but this was more of a test roll to check for light leaks I may not have seen, and how the lens look after my attempt at cleaning and fixing everything (this is only my second attempt at fixing and cleaning an old camera, the first one didn’t work out so well).

I really am impressed with it.

It shoots like a toy and is not the easiest to handle while shooting but I just really enjoy it.

This roll of film my BF gave me (he’s the film shooter of us both, I moved on to digital 20 years ago and only just coming back to film a couple years ago) was some Lady Grey 120 ASA400 he was trying out for fun. Not the best (or even mediocre) quality, but it works.

Well it’s still kind of clickbait because I made what I call The BackDooms, inspired by both DOOM and the Backrooms (they’re so damn similar) but it’s still really fun and the entire process of making it was just as cool! It also went extremely viral on Hacker News and LinkedIn and is one of those projects that are closest to my heart.

The Beginning

It all started when I was just bored a while back and had a "mostly" free week so I decided to pick up games in QR codes for a fun project or atleast a rabbit hole. I remember watching this video by matttkc maybe around covid of making a snake game fit in a QR code and he went the route of making it in a native executable, I just thought what I could do if I went down the JavaScript route.

Now let me guide you through the premise we're dealing with here:

QR codes can store up to 3KB of text and binary data.

For context, this post, until now in plaintext is over 0.6KB

My goal: Create a playable DOOM-inspired game smaller than a couple paragraphs of plain text.💀

Now to make a functional game to make under these constraints, we’re stuck using:

• No Game Engine – HTML/JavaScript with Canvas

• No Assets – All graphics generated through code

• No Libraries – Because Every byte counts!

To make any of this possible, we had to use Minified Code.

But what the heck is Minified Code?

To get games to fit in these absurdly small file sizes, you need to use what is called minification

or in this case - EXTREMELY aggressive minification.

I'll give you a simple example:

Variables become single letters. Comments evaporate and our new code now resembles a ransom note lol

The Map Generation

In earlier versions of development, I kept the map very small (16x16) and (8x8) while this could be acceptable for such a small game, I wanted to stretch limits and double down on the backrooms concept so I managed to figure out infinite generation of maps with seed generation too

if you've played Minecraft before, you know what seeds are - extremely random values made up of character(s) that are used as the basis for generating game worlds.

Making a Fake 3D Using Original DOOM's Techniques

So theoretically speaking, if you really liked one generation and figure out the seed for it, you can hardcode it to the code to get the same one each time

My version of a simulated 3D effect uses raycasting – a 1992 rendering trick. and here's My simplified version:

For each vertical screen column (all 320 of them):

Cast a ray at a slightly different angle

Measure distance to nearest wall

Draw a taller rectangle if the wall is closer

Even though this is basic trigonometry, This calls for a significant chunk of the entire game and honestly, if it weren't for infinite map generation, I would've just BASE64 coded the URL and it would have been small enough to run directly haha - but honestly so worth it

Enemy Mechanics

This was another huge concern, in earlier versions of the game there were just some enemies in the start and then absolutely none when you started to travel, this might have worked in the small map but not at all in infinite generation

The enemies were hard to make because firstly, it's very hard to make any realistic effects when shooting or even realistic enemies when you're so limited by file size

secondly, I'm not experienced, I’m just messing around and learning stuff

I initially made it so the enemies stood still and did nothing, later versions I added movement so they actually followed you

much later did I finally get a right way to spawn enemies nearby while you are walking (check out the blog for the code snippets, reddit doesn't have code blocks in 2025)

Making the game was only half the challenge, because the real challenge was putting it in a QR code

How The Heck do I Put This in a QR code

The largest standard QR code (Version 40) holds 2,953 bytes (~2.9 KB).

This is very small—e.g:

a Windows sound file of 1/15th of a second is 11 KB.

A floppy disk (1.44 MB) can store nearly 500 QR Codes worth of data.

My game's initial size came out to 3.4KB

AH SHI-

After an exhaustive four-day optimization process, I successfully reduced the file size to 2.4 KB, albeit with a few carefully considered compromises.

Remember how I said QR codes can store text and binary data

Well... executable HTML isn't binary OR plaintext, so a direct approach of inserting HTML into a QR code generator proved futile

Most people usually advice to use Base64 conversion here, but this approach has a MASSIVE 33% overhead!

leaving less than 1.9kb for the game

YIKES

I guess it made sense why matttkc chose to make Snake now

I must admit, I considered giving up at this point. I talked to 3 different AI chatbots for two days, whenever I could - ChatGPT, DeepSeek and Claude, a 100 different prompts to each one to try to do something about this situation (and being told every single time hosting it on a website is easier!?)

Then, ChatGPT casually threw in DecompressionStream

What the Heck is DecompressionStream

DecompressionStream, a little-known WebAPI component, it's basically built into every single modern web browser.

Think of it like WinRAR for your browsers, but it takes streams of data instead of Zip files.

That was the one moment I felt like Sheldon cooper.

the only (and I genuinely believe it because I practically have a PhD of micro games from these searches) way to achieve this was compressing the game through zlib then using the QR code library on python to barely fit it inside a size 40 code...?

Well, I lied

Because It really wasn’t the only way - if you make your own compression algorithm in two days that later gets cited by a NASA Scientist and cites you

You see, fundamentally, Zlib and GZip use very similar techniques but Zlib is more supported with a lot of features like our hero decompressionstream

Unless… you compress with GZip, modify it to look like a Zlib base64 conversion and then use it and no, this wasn’t well documented anywhere I looked

I absolutely hate that reddit doesn’t have mermaid graph support but I’ll try my best to outline the steps anyways haha

Read Input HTML -> Compress with Zlib -> Base64 Encode -> Embed in HTML Wrapper

-> DecompressionStream 'gzip' -> Format Mismatch

-> Convert to Data URI -> Fits QR Code?

-> Yes -> Generate QR

-> No -> Reduce HTML Size -> Read Input HTML

Make that a python file to execute all of this-

IT WORKS

It was a significant milestone, and I couldn't help but feel a sense of humor about this entire journey. Perfecting a script for this took over 42 iterations, blood, sweat, tears and processing power.

This also did well on LinkedIn and got me some attention there but I wanted the real techy folks on Reddit to know about it too :P

Kris has a crush on Susie and I can prove it

First of all, my goal is to demonstrate that Suselle ISN'T the only ship that's being built up, but Krusie aswell. (That doesn't mean that Suselle doesn't have any evidence)

Evidence

To begin with, when you give Susie Tea to Kris, they'll get a 120 heal, with extra dialogue, which is as follows:

S: STOP LOOKING AT ME!

R: (They seem into it.)

This is very interesting, since not only is it the tea that heals the most to Kris, it also implies that they are 'into' Susie, which has romantic connotations.

Of course, this isn't everything, because the Susie fight has some secrets in there as well.

When you have the 'option' to fight Susie in Scarlet Forest, if you wait long enough, the heart will move by itself and choose Let's not fight for a split second. You can actually see it on ANY playthrough if you look closely.

In the fight, there's an act you can do with either Susie or Lancer, which says Anything, and if you click it for the first time on either of them, Kris will complement them over how their hair flows in the wind. If you do this on Susie though, she will say 'Really?...Shut up and fight!' Granted, this isn't very solid, as Kris will say the exact same thing to Lancer.

There's ALSO the fact that after the Spamton NEO fight, the game makes a point of the fact that Kris wants to be hugged by Susie, not Ralsei.

I would also like to mention Poppups, of all things... One of the many interactions Kris can have with them is 'You unconsciously clicked on a popup about "monsters 4 humans" "in your area"

This shows that Kris is romantically interested in monsters. Perhaps they already have a crush?

Most importantly, when you're given the option to choose who you want to go with to the festivl, Kris acts confused on every candidate except for Susie. I would like to note the romantic implications of the question, given how Susie specifically asked if they had to choose ONE. Why ? They can have multiple friends! Actually, SUSIE has MULTIPLE best friends, as Kris, Ralsei and Noelle heal the EXACT same amount of HP to her, anyway. Unless she ISN'T asking about best friends.

Here's a PART 2 where I point out the most critical evidence.

How about a THEORY.

NOW I BEGIN WITH THE MINDFUCKERY: KRIS' RED SOUL MAIN TRAIT: Love

We KNOW this is the case because of Papyrus. In one of his phonecalls for Hotland, he says: "MAYBE L STANDS FOR LOVE"

Undyne: "But isn't love supposed to be FIREY RED?! Like a cartoony human-heart?

Then, they talk about how Undyne turns people's hearts into green.

And, well, all the main human's souls have been exactly that: firey red cartoony human-hearts. Which is very interesting, because the only times they go out of our control is when they have to do with either Susie, or when they show their FIREY RED EYES, after all- they ARE the window to the soul. In fact, at the end of ch 2, when Kris takes out the soul, the first thing they do is look at Susie in front of her, before doing all the weird things they do.

Conversely, the only time when we can completely control them is in the weird route, which has connotations of a toxic romantic relationship (remember the ThornRING?). After all, LOVE can mean two VERY different things.

This also means that the red soul can't be the player's soul, as they are just as likely to be Love than Perseverence, for example.

AND FINALLY: THE SWEEPSTAKES

This is important because in new girl, Kris takes a bite of the already bitten apple by Susie, which could be interpreted as planting an indirect kiss. There's also the fact that Kris never tells their mom about Susie, showing that they don't want her to get punished. And how could I forget about the very mysterious thing they said to her that somehow managed to get under Susie's skin? I honestly don't have a solid answer for this, but I just mentioned this just in case.

And that's everything, I think? This post was originally going to be about Susie's own crushes, but the evidence for Kris' crush on Susie was so unfathomably big this HAD to be it's own post. I just hope I made you think about the relationships of these characters a bit more.
