When Steve and Dustin started hanging out, Steve would try to wrestle with him like bros but Dustin wasn’t having it.

When Steve and Robin became friends, she would wrestle with him but then she got his armpit hair in her mouth so they don’t do that anymore.

He tried to wrestle Eddie but Eddie tried to physically fight him so Steve steers clear of that activity with him.

Occasionally, on a blue moon, Hopper will walk past him and put him in a headlock. Steve loves that, but he loves Argyle the best because Argyle will throw down.

Argyle can not only pick Steve up but can also keep him pinned down which makes him a worthy opponent in Steve’s book.

Every time they randomly start fighting each other, Eddie fumes with jealousy and Robin is always there like, “Well, maybe if you didn’t try to punch him in the face…”

as much as I love the common "Tim worships/stalks Jason" trope in TimJay fanfiction because it's Good and making Tim a weird little freak is Fun, I think the underutilized dynamic is where Jason is the one weirdly obsessed with Tim and makes it Tim's problem.

Like, the moment Jason is confronted with the information that a third Robin exists, the first thing he does is cover his wall with pictures of Tim so he can just obsess and torture himself over it. That is the behavior of a man who is Unwell over Tim's existence and I love it.

And as much as a shitshow as The Titans Tower Incident™ is characterization-wise (though I think it has far more merit in depicting Jason's character than people give it credit for but I digress-) there's something very fun about the fact that even after kicking his ass, Jason respects Tim and is impressed by him.

While Battle for the Cowl is an exceptionally bad comic, especially for its characterization of Jason and the "be my Robin" bit is taken deeply out of context, I do think it's interesting how obsessed Jason is with believing that Tim is extremely competent, only held back by being "brainwashed by Bruce". (hence him leaving Tim for dead later on in the comic.) Jason seeing a darker side of Tim and wanting to bring that out of Tim, wanting to see what Tim could be if he let go of his loyalty to Bruce is so fun to me, tbh.

And in Robin #177, Jason seems genuinely upset Tim doesn't want to work with him. Jason sees such a raw potential in Tim and is obsessed with it, constantly wanting Tim to work for him and see Tim be the type of person Jason is. And despite Tim rejecting him, Jason doesn't shoot to kill Tim. I just cannot get over the fanfic potential of Jason obsessing over Tim, tracking him and seeing what he's capable of and what he could be capable of. Wanting to make Tim see things the way he does. To Tim it's corruption, to Jason it's freedom. Tim trying to 'save' Jason is fun and all, but Jason trying to corrupt Tim? That's even more fun to me. Watching that power struggle between them, Tim unable to get Jason off his heels as Jason gets more and more possessive and bold with each attempt.

And when Jason sees Tim successfully get Gotham back under control after a gang war, he's impressed. He praises Tim, even. And then Tim just. Breaks him out of prison.

robin (1993) #182

The way they're constantly trying to see something in the other that isn't there, hoping the other will come around? That is the most fucked up hate/love dynamic ever. Jason keeps coming back to Tim, keeps trying to find ways to get Tim onto his side. They're always chasing each other. And I think Jason would be the one to confess love first, the one to do anything to make Tim his. And when you consider after all of this, Tim has his Red Robin arc and is at his lowest, getting the closest he ever gets to considering murder? I think it'd be so fun to see Jason take advantage of that and worm his way back into Tim's life and finally push Tim over the edge.

Anyway, let's talk about the ginger bastard! 🦊 Small lore drop time

For starters, let's talk a bit about Hayato's design.

I don't know if I've made this obvious (save for the emojis lmao), but I associate him with foxes. This is why he has the messy red hair, the freckles, the slit cat-like pupils (foxes have them too yk), the fangs, and the orange-black-white colour scheme. All of this applies to Sanako too.

The fox thing is more prevalent in Hayato, though, because the theming goes further than just his appearance. I haven't mentioned it yet, but he has fire powers, which were partially inspired by kitsunebi (or foxfire). In japanese mythology, kitsunes were able to create flames, which is basically what Hayato is able to do too.

By all means, his powers are quite "basic" ig, just regular anime fire powers though I do like to think about how they would work, I like to say his respiratory system is basically just a furnace but in universe, he's a special case. Humans don't have powers in this story - he's the only known exception. I could talk about how and why he got his powers, but that would make this reply even longer, and I already don't think anyone cares much abt this lmao, I can talk about that some other time.

Even if he wasn't an exception, I still wouldn't say his powers are weak. He can cause a lot of damage and I think fire in particular can be quite a flexible and volatile power. It's something I'd really like to explore if I ever do get the chance to turn this story into a comic. He's mostly in control of his powers, but they can flare up when he experiences strong emotions.

I also like to think about how Hayato having fire powers would affect his life in other ways. He absolutely detests rain or cold water in general. If he gets soaked, he'll be in a sour mood for the rest of the day and won't be able to use his powers until his hands are dry. If he coughs a lot, he'll start coughing up smoke; if he rubs his hands together for a while, he'll produce smoke and eventually a flame. I think the easiest way for him to make a flame is to snap his fingers, though. I almost want to make him sneeze sparks but I know that'd be too hard for him to hide. Maybe if it's hot and dry enough. He also has a higher body temperature than the average human, probably around 39° or 40° degrees? High enough to boil a human brain which explains a lot

Anyway, I could talk a lot more about all of this cringe lore, but I'll spare the rest of the yapping. Just know that if you read this far, I'm very grateful and I love you. 😭❤️

A ‘defected’ Timephoon clone, he is greatly injured during the fight in Moonvasion. Falling off of Killmotor Hill and losing his hand, he takes months of recovering and rebuilding himself only to learn that no one truly cared about the clones and no one even thought one of them could be missing. Hurt, bitter and angry, he strives to enact his revenge on the person he’s come to blame for all of that- Scrooge McDuck. Known as ‘Mads’ to a select few who are allowed to call him that and with a strange flirtatious obsession with Gyro; he disregards everyone else formerly in his life to achieve his goal of gaining recognition and fear from anyone who forgot him.

Pony, I know this is your space - but SODA!! PONYBOY is feeling SAD!! HE NEEDS HUGS AND CHOCOLATE CAKE!!

Soda could only stand to see his brother so upset for so long. Deciding to let Pony have some space, he trailed off outside, only to see the carrier flag was up.

He trotted to the mailbox, pulling out the letter inside. His lips press into a thin line. “ ‘Course he’s upset,” he mumbled to himself, shoving the letter into his pocket. “..But, who am I to refuse what the letter said?”

So, inside he ran. And into their shared room he bursts, throwing himself at Ponyboy.

The two fall back onto the bed. “Get offa me!" Pony screeches, trying to push his older brother off of him as he engulfs him in a large hug. Soda, ever stronger than Pony, keeps him trapped in the jail of his arms.

“It ain’t that bad, quit screechin’ like a banshee!” That warrants a tough kick from Pony. “Hey! Don’t kick me when I’m bein’ nice,” Soda snorts, only to start laughing harder when Pony’s hands push against his face to get him off.

And just as Pony was about to get the upper hand, just barely getting some leverage— Soda shoves him back down. Pony lets out a defeated grunt before finally accepting his brother’s embrace. “You ain’t bein’ nice. You’re trappin’ ‘nd fightin’ me.”

“You gotta quit bein’ so dramatic, Pone,” He snorts, picking Pony up comfortably into his arms. Pony yelps in surprise. “Soda! What’re you doin’!”

“Makin’ cake, I guess. ‘s what the letter said to do.”

“ ‘Re you goin’ through my letters, too? You ‘nd Curly need’a get your own hobbies, or somethin’,”

“Shut your mouth, Pone, I’m makin’ you cake!”

The next hour or so is filled with the two baking together (or rather, Pony watching as Soda made the cake and making the occasional comment). Leaving the dishes in the sink to be dealt with later, they eat a nutritious dinner consisting of chocolate cake and nothing else.

Eventually, Soda fishes the letter out of his pocket and scribbles back a small reply:

“done :)”

Were there any shorts that paired Bugs and Porky? Like the the only ones I can think of are from New Looney Tunes/Wabbit and I just know there had be shorts that starred just them before that.

OH MAN!!! OKAY. i'm going to preface this right now with: the answer is simple (tl;dr: barely, i'd say only one truly counts during the classic era) but the Porky and Bugs dynamic has become a side obsession for me within the past year or so, and i don't really have many opportunities to talk about it on this blog. so i will probably end up giving you way too much info than what you asked for. so there's the tldr above! and to reiterate it further...

SO. YES. to answer your question, they were occasionally paired together in the classics, but nothing really meaningful. Porky's Hare Hunt, which is a self-admitted rip on Porky's Duck Hunt, births a prototypal Bugs Bunny who could not be further from his fully realized counterpart... but there is a direct lineage.

this is the only short in the classics to have them actually talking to each other, and even then, proto-Bugs sounds nothing like how he would. i both count this one and don't, really... it's more interesting to count it, but, this isn't really Bugs. but as the title implies, it's all about Porky's attempts to hunt this screwy rabbit who keeps heckling him and slipping out of his fingers. it also births the Groucho Marx-ism of "of course you realize, this means war!" associated with the real Bugs, so there is that going for it!

interestingly, this model sheet surfaced a few months ago--Bob Clampett had said something in an interview about him helping out with the story for this one, and i always dismissed that as one of his "exaggerations" since he had a knack for making many mountains out of molehills, including his involvement in the origins of Bugs... but this does look like a Clampett or Clampett unit drawing, and the short was directed by Ben "Bugs" Hardaway, whose style was markedly different... so, just thought that was interesting! never got to talk about this yet. this model sheet is more appealing than the whole cartoon!

there's also this from Hare-um Scare-um, which is another proto-Bugs short... very prophetic honestly

there's also Any Bonds Today, where Porky appears in the background alongside Elmer and has at least one line to help shill war bonds, but it's really Bugs' thing first and foremost and he's just sort of there to look pretty and rouse jingoism through being a recognizable and "reliable" face

BUT! the next true Porky and Bugs short in 1943, which is more relevant to your question. A Corny Concerto is really only the "true" short that pairs them together... and it's for half the runtime of the short, and neither of them say a word to each other LOL. but they're together in the Tale of Vienna Woods segment, and i HIGHLY recommend watching it if you haven't yet--extremely entertaining and charming, and paints a very interesting glimpse of what a Porky and Bugs dynamic would look like, had that been a thing. very antagonistic! Porky is hunting Bugs again, who's heckling him (again), coming to a climax where he fakes Porky out by pretending to die and then slaps him in a gag that makes it look like Porky is being a masher. normal stuff.

and thanks to this short i've fostered the headcanon that i think Porky and Bugs would absolutely detest each other if they were ever to interact and it gives me great joy to think about, and has been something i've been thinking about and concocting in my mind palace very much lately.

AND THAT'S REALLY IT FOR MAJOR APPEARANCES.. i talked about it in this ask, but the end of Porky Pig's Feat does make history by being the only time all the flagship stars appear together--Porky and Daffy are held prisoner in a hotel since they couldn't pay their rent, and they start reminiscing on how Bugs Bunny, the great cartoon star, would be able to get out of such a mess... and they try to get his help, only for it to reveal that he's stuck in the same situation! Porky doesn't say anything to Bugs/hardly regards him, but he does start the "gosh, if Bugs Bunny were only here" discussion... Bugs is really more like a godlike cartoon figure here rather than an actual character, and i see it more as a loophole for Frank Tashlin to work with Bugs, since he was very vocal about his disappointment in not getting to direct him often due to being low in the studio hierarchy and being "stuck with the damn pig" (rude!!)

and the last instance of them together that i can think of is a very brief part in the 1964 Dumb Patrol short (clarifying the date since there's a 1931 Bosko short by the same name): Porky in a silent cameo is slated to take down Yosemite Sam's warplane, but Bugs knocks him unconscious and steals his place because "he's got a wife and six piglets at home!" (...or, it's just a slightly more creative way of concocting exposition for what's a subpar Bugs and Yosemite Sam short)

and that's it for the shorts! ...so, surely, you're asking "okay, but why the long winded anticipatory introduction?" and to THAT! i say... because Porky and Bugs had a sort of double life and were very frequently paired in merchandising together.

Bugs was Porky's Daffy-figure in the comics, to the point where they were often the face of the comics together. usually a lot of stories revolving around Bugs trying to stir up Mr. Moral Goody Two Shoes Porky and get him in trouble, the two going on adventures together, or them just being buddies. it's... weirdly fascinating? the comics were often drawn and written by many of the same figures who worked on the cartoons, so it's a very interesting "what if" scenario that might give insight as to what it'd be like if we got more Porky and Bugs shorts

one of my all time favorite comic stories is an entire story about a big, convoluted misunderstanding where everyone things Porky wants to kill Bugs and they all try to stop him. the comics have been excellent fodder in fueling my "Porky just hates Bugs' guts" headcanon that i kinda just thought was me being funny, but has a weird amount of "evidence" for it LOL.

i mean Porky just goes straight for the ankle breaker here!

SO! they have been paired together in the past, but in a sort of strange, convoluted way. in terms of shorts there's very little, and the only time they ever talk to each other one on one is when Bugs is in his most primordial form. the comics and merchandising of the era paint more of a picture of what that dynamic could be like, but maybe a bit of a dubious one, since the characterizations and writing and general style of the comics are a bit different and more sanitized than the irreverence of the shorts, in both tone and format
