Can I get a happy meal with a squiggles plush included! :D
– ❄️🐈

Genuinely how do you guys keep missing the order button… Uh, have this picture of a squiggles plush I guess? Just don’t get start thinking of him as your son and you’ll be fine.
- Ranboo
Drawn by @enderisin
Image id: a cartoony style image of squiggles from generation loss. It is clearly not human, it’s head being a white circle with a simplified version of the showfall media logo on it, being a line with 2 quarter circles on either side, a small circle in the middle and then two lines extending from the quarter circles ending in little squiggles. it is wearing a black suit jacket and has gray striped pants. Its features are all very rounded and soft, giving the illusion of a plushy or toy.

keep up the thamepo [episode 1]
there are some parts in the first episode that itched my brain and made my toes curl and my eyes hot and just—very very visceral reaction from my whole body. honestly, this episode did make my heart skip a beat (see what i did there hehe)
beforehand, i would like to apologise for the lq of the photos. i watch thamepo on netflix, and i can't take screenshots there so... i tried looking for raw videos and found this one online. i hope it's understandable.
1. blue
there's so much blue in po. and all over him. i think it's used to emphasise his sadness. he clearly hasn't moved on from earn, and that's fine. but when he started oversharing that he had just ended his relationship with the panels, i realised that maybe, po didn't have an outlet for his grief.
we could see him trying to swallow it all. when one of the panels stated he didn't work for three years. when he was talking to the sandwich guy. when he had the conversation with baifern. po was struggling to let it go, but he couldn't because it wasn't easy—loving earn all these years wasn't easy to let go. he kept it all.
in fact, he still has photos with earn, the mug. i guess po had a hard time discarding these because it's so unfair. how could earn move on so quickly, but po was still struggling? was their love that easy to forget?
but in this frame, there is less blue. i feel like po has absorbed the blue, and he became the product of it. the sadness. the heartbrokenness. it was all in him now.

when we compare these two frames, we can see there's blue everywhere. i think it could be a sign of the impending doom of their relationship. and it's so interesting that we usually associate danger with red, but in this case, it's blue.
i guess it fits po's quiet and calm nature, or maybe it's his obliviousness—unknowing that the ship he's in has so many holes in it, and he's the only one trying to fix it.

po was wearing blue too during earnchop's soft-launching. i guess it's always in him, with him. but po didn't realise it yet. not until that night.

2. po looking at thame's picture — taking an interest?
this one makes me so... giddy. i think it's so... sensual? //this is my favourite moment from the episode hehehe// i think it's just me hahahaha.
when baifern asked if there was no one in MARS that caught po's eyes, he was looking at their pictures, and when his eyes landed on thame, there was this flicker. it was so pretty.
he was indifferent at first...

but then......

see the very very very subtle shift in his expression? (EST SUPHA THE ACTOR YOU ARE THIS IS ONE OF THE REASONS WHY YOU'RE SOME OF MY FAVOURITES AHHHH—)
i can't praise est enough for portraying this spark of interest in his eyes. it's so evident. it's somewhat... intimate? i don't know how to explain it (i'm actually screaming atm) because it feels like a very delicious foreshadowing of their relationship in the future; how po sees thame, how he consumes him, how he admires thame.
i'm going to share this video evidence because pictures don't do this very fragile and intimate moment justice (i need people to go insane with me).
3. thame and po's first meeting — the tension
i think we were all expecting the elevator scene to be their first meeting. honestly, i forgot about it while i was watching the episode because their first (real) meeting was just as intense!
but this tension is somewhat suffocating? i was actually scared for po... the way thame looked at him was so cold.

i think this was intentional to set the foundation, to let many people assume this is how we're supposed to see thame; cold, heartless, distant, quiet, and hot-tempered.
but maybe this is just a facade. the real thame isn't this.

i wonder if this was thame projecting his disappointment in realising that po was potentially a sasaeng? because later on, we knew that thame remembered po from the event, even though it was brief. because thame said po was different—so i wonder if this was thame feeling disappointed because po wasn't how he perceived? //also because i assume many fans applied for a job at oner with the purpose of stalking them... which makes sense to the thame's hostility and anger at their new staff members?//

and it breaks my heart how po looked like he was about to go through another emotional breakdown here. Lord... he has endured so much to get here, and now, one of the members he was supposed to work with already had assumptions about him?
//me this episode: constantly wiping my laptop screen when po was crying... patting his head when he was sad...//
4. their confrontation — a projection; a closure; a realisation
i think many people have talked about the scene when they were talking, and po projecting his truest feelings while talking to thame—who happens to 'leave' his members when he got a better deal for himself. but we know that's not the case. thame isn't like earn.
and i think it's so interesting how this drama shows these two perspectives, especially from the lens of the doer. we always connect more with the 'victims'. maybe—just maybe—some perpetrators aren't all evil.

i think po saw thame as earn's reflection. he considered everyone who left to be selfish and cruel. but again, the narrative was reflected, and we could observe from both perspectives.
after the conversation they shared, after po poured his heart out, and when thame said the ones who left felt the pain—perhaps as much as the ones who were left behind—the moment of realisation was now reflected on po's face. we could really see his 'oh' moment.

and clearly, we know, thame was in pain.

it's interesting to me that thame didn't let his tears fall here. but—
5. a budding relationship — a moment of vulnerability
thame cried here, when he was looking at his members smiling and happy—the way they initially were, before all of them went astray.
thame immediately wiped his tears away when he saw po. he might not want to show this vulnerable side to anyone because he's the leader, after all.

to people who are familiar with the dynamics of a k-pop group, leaders are usually the strongest. they're given responsibilities not only to represent the group but also their well-being and everything in between. therefore, this is no different.
i guess, thame was used to this—hiding his emotions. it's sad just to think of it—how thame didn't have a shoulder to cry on. //but later we got to see the members comforting thame... but at what price?//
AND THEN! WE KNEW THAT THAME REMEMBERED PO!
and i wonder if it's... love at first sight? because when thame said po was different, he was wearing this expression—

what is this? is it longing? yearning? hoping? i think it's all and nothing...
and poor po because he was genuinely confused when thame said that T_T

and yes, this is the beginning. this is where it'll start making sense.

i can't wait for them to be closer! and i'm so intrigued to see how po approaches the other members because from the trailer, po seems like the bridge that connects everyone, and i'm excited about that! //but i'm scared that the bridge will start falling apart once everyone is connected... and po feels like he's being an 'outcast' again, even though thame said he didn't.//

Me needs talk about something undiscussed about Rarold that I do find quite interesting to analyze in-depth... Because, I do think he is an interesting character. (⚠️ Spoilers under the cut!!!)
Rarold's motives. As shrimple as that. 🦐
Before I elaborate on all that I have to say, all the way back in September 2022 I had a discussion with a friend that met the BKMN author at a convention... you can of course have your own interpretation on his case... but ever since I heard about it... IT HAS BEEN LIVING IN MY HEAD RENT FREE. And it makes so much sense with what happens in the book once you know this undiscussed detail about him. It makes his character so much more interesting when you know the reason of his actions. And it's why I love him.
In the book, it never is explained what were the reasons he did commit all these crimes... but if you don't know the fun fact he did kill for the sole reason blood would make his crops grow better... I feel like there is some clues there in the book that leads to this information.
We all know Rarold is the "Copycat killer". He doesn't have any original way of killing. (Sorry, Rarold, I love you but it's true... 🐒)
One of my headcanons for him is that he doesn't know how to kill at all. And that his wife most likely is his very first victim, and before that he never killed anyone... ever. Obviously sucks at killing. Which is why he got ideas from both the "Dead Rope Killer 2" movie and from Neighbor's way of killing. For both the ropes and purple threads.
Subtle detail you might miss... but the main character from the "Dead Rope Killer 2" movie most likely is a foreshadowing to Rarold's future crimes... He absolutely is shaped like him! And also, a bit before that part, we can see Rarold standing in front of the theater, and he most likely went to watch this movie for inspiration. (Which is funny to me... Given the fact Neighbor and Wegg were both alone in the theather when they saw that exact same movie, it just is hilarious to imagine Rarold being all alone in there and just taking notes...)
The reason Neighbor kills is related to blood... Hehe. Remember the fun fact I earlier shared in this post? Teehee. Yeah. What if...
WHAAAAAT IIIIIFFFFF... It was also truly Rarold's case...
First time we see Rarold killing someone in the book, is in his cornfield of ALL PLACES... and also, he specifies his corn is "so, so good"... Why would his corn be this good, huh?! Sus if you ask me.
I did some researches about blood and crops... and as cursed as it sounds, it actually is a good fertilizer to grow corn. (I guess that makes sense since blood is... well... organic)
"Anonyme a demandé"... French moment (My first language...) but once someone did ask why the copycat killer (Rarold) only did kill women... the author specified in their post, that it was intentional... and that... THE SEED IS THERE! I know it's a way of saying, but corn grows with seed... and most likely, his wife was the seed. His very first victim. And her blood made her crops grow better...!
Now, I need to talk about the dream/vision part of that one fun fact my friend got at a convention... That would make a similarity between Neighbor and him. Neighbor most likely had a dream about Lady Trudy... Rarold probably had a dream about another sort of deity... and I might have an idea on that deity. Yeah... Lord Calum. Why you may ask...? Well, Lord Calum is bird shaped... and you know what bird likes... yeah! Corn! Believe it or not but a male swan is called a COB. And you know what else is a cob? Yes. Corn on the COB. And a scythe is strangely shaped like a bird when you deeply think about it...
Might be a coincidence but it is interesing to think about... But the way a male swan is called COB and well Rarold's a corn farmer (corn on the COB) that is like... the revelation of the 20th century to me (lol 1974). Another headcanon I have is that Rarold only kills people he was told to kill in his dreams/visions... he doesn't kill any random person. I suppose I told everything I had to say about him and his motives!! Rarold is very interesting to me... Gosh, love the corn man.
Oh yeah, one more thing I'll say... but Rarold did not die. You can see him in the 1975 epilogue chapter... the man is still alive, and apparently not in jail for some unknown reasons... if Neighbor can have a good future despite all the people he killed (Glenn did not deserve his fate btw), I think it's fair Rarold can too. I believe he can be a better person too. Personally I think he regrets what he did, but that's a headcanon of mine! Anyone can have their own interpretation and that's 100% ok. Well here is the end of this post... thanks if you have read everything... I loved to talk about him and it's something I do wanted to share for a while, hehe. 🫶🌽❤️

Doctor Who Episode 7 Rant
I know it's been a couple of days since the episode, and i don't usually post stuff about Doctor Who, but I feel like ranting about Wish World, the latest episode hehe
I have absolutely hated most of the other episodes this season, they've been 1 dimensional, heavy-handed, nonsensical caricatures of what Doctor Who once was, with paper thin characters and plots so riddled with holes it would give a person with trypophobia nightmares.
This episode has potential, I just pray that they stick the landing with the second part. I'm not the biggest fan of the Rani, or really any of the characters in play if I'm honest, but this sort of 1984 + Magnus Archives fear domain + Matrix kinda concept really works. It's uniquely horrifying! Conrad actually seems interesting (Even if his previous episode was literal garbage) and it makes sense that his wish world would consist of The Doctor just being a myth that he's telling, because he wanted it all to be a conspiracy so badly.
Speaking of wishes, this is the first time I think they've actually done the whole gods think justice, all the other ones have been shit, but the idea of a baby who never cries and can create wishes due to it being the 7th son of a 7th son etc is sooo cool! And while the metaphors and social comentary are still not subtle in the slightest, it fits in so well with the world they're portraying. Like obviously homophobia would be overt and rampant in this world, there's no need to sugarcoat it. Also, the idea of the tables not working properly is absolutely genius, plus with the foreshadowing at the beginning when they were taking out the rubbish and it was all just broken cups 🙌
Fuck knows what's going on with the dinosaur skeletons, and I hate that they keep saying the Doctor is the last time lord when the writers are literally addicted to bringing in secret time lords that have been in hiding or whatever lol, and it kinda makes no sense why the first timelord is under a world made of wishes?? But I have hope lol! I'm looking forward to the next episode!!!

hiii keshi!! this is my first ask to you ever so i really hope tumblr doesn’t eat it !! i wanted to ask you a question about writing if thats okay with you but before i do i’d just like to tell you that your stalker kolya fic actually changed the wiring of my brain lol it was SO good!! i remembered reading it on the train when it first came out and being SOOOO devastated that i had no one to talk to about it!! its my all time favorite nikolai fic and i’d just like to tell you that <3
anyways!! my question to you is; is it normal to spend a long time on writing fics? 😭 it sounds like a very stupid question (trust me, i know) but it’s kind of been itching at my brain for a while now. so basically i’m writing this gojo x reader/OC fanfic (i dunno if you’re that into jjk or not) but its supposed to be in first person POV and a long fic having at least 20-25 chapters.. i have an idea of what i want it to be like, plans of subtle foreshadowing, backstories, plot points but i’m not really sure if these things should be taking up so much of my time 😭 it took me a day to plan out the first chapter and i’ve only gotten 20% of it done so far. I usually need a whole day to write 3000 words (i struggle) while i always see most writers posting about being able to finish a whole 6k words oneshots (which is SUCH a talent).
is it something that gets easier the more you write?? i’ve been writing for 5-6 years since i started at 13. what can i do to improve this?? or is it a case of ‘not every writer is the same’??
i’ve never talked to another writer before, never thought about reaching out to anyone but today i feel like i kinda do need someone elses opinion with this 💔 i’m so so sorry for the long ramble, it’s difficult for me to simply things <3333 absolutely love your work <3
haiii thank you so much for the kind comments ❤️ you can always talk about stalker nikolai with me hehe
so, to answer, yes it is totally normal to spend a long time for a fic! and you're planning to do a long fic that has like, 20-25 chapters, so it's totally normal for your planning to take some time. this is the case of "not every writer is the same"
take me, for example. i need at least two weeks to write a fic for stalker nikolai. and there was one time i had to take about almost 2-months for a trash sugar magic's chapter. and now, i can only post once a month because i need more time and i am also busy with other stuff in life.
so 3k words a day is very impressive! hells, 1k a day is also impressive. personally, there really is nothing to improve because you are working on YOUR own pace. i think, rushing to get a fic done will give more harm than good (for example, you might get easily burnt out or you feel obligated to keep posting in such a short period)
take your time, plan out your fic, write what you can and don't worry about whether you're a fast writer or not. you're still a writer ❤️
goodluck on your fic! 🫶

Writer interview game
Thanks for tagging me @punderdome! I feel appreciated 🥰
A few no pressure tags @scaredyspooks @wandawillow @infernalrusalka ☺️
When did you start writing?
Pretty early as I started to draw and make up little stories to my drawings at, like, the age of 5, 6? #manga
Are there different themes or genres you enjoy reading than what you write?
Yes! I love to read non-fiction, as bizarre as it sounds (well, that‘s also my job), but I just love to dig into fields I was not interested or would never venture in only to find myself invested in the subject after reading about it.
Is there a writer you want to emulate or get compared to often?
There are so many writers I enjoy reading and they are all different and unique in their writing and storytelling that it made me realize I don‘t want to compare myself or be compared to anyone. I strive to be myself and want my writing to reflect that (though I have a long way to go…)
Can you tell me a bit about your writing space?
My office at work. It‘s dull and has literally no color or life, but it is the space I can write the best (also I have an ergonomic chair and a height-adjustable table, so no aching back hehe)
What's your most effective way to muster up a muse?
Muse? What’s a muse? I thrive on the danger called procrastination. When I procrastinate, I’m full of ideas and motivation to write or draw - just not to do the things I actually need to do.
Are there any recurring themes in your writing? Do they surprise you?
They don‘t surprise me anymore and I should dip my toes in other themes. I‘m a sucker for tragedy and making everyone suffer, so I started a story where I (hopefully will) write something happy and/or satisfying.
What is your reason for writing?
Honestly, I don‘t know. Too many thoughts for my head, they need to move so I write them down.
Is there any specific comment or type of comment you find particularly motivating?
I‘m a simple person, just like @punderdome I have a praise kink apparently lol
How do you want to be thought about by your readers?
Hm, I‘d say it would be nice if I come across as friendly and approachable… I guess? (Man, that‘s a tough question)
What do you feel is your greatest strength as a writer?
I’m gonna go with subtle foreshadowing and plottwists.
How do you feel about your own writing?
🤷🏼♀️🤔🫠 #if this conveys it #da ist noch Luft nach oben

Alright ok, I finally read through your last fic the way god intended (with my full attention, I skimmed it the first time) and have come back with my thoughts and feelings
First off, masterpiece, absolutely wonderful, 10/10 will definitely read it again and again. I am also a sucker for vampires, my dearest beloved troupe. I also wanna mention that when I skimmed the fic, I skimmed all the wrong parts. I saw the line "I thought you were hungry" and ran with the idea that Dani was completely aware of the events about to unfold. Tickle me surprised when I read the ending. But rereading it made so much more sense, and I've learned my lesson not to read bits and pieces.
But I also genuinely love the idea that the sentence "I thought you were hungry" can be interpreted in both ways. It's a double entendre and I love it. Foreshadowing in the best way. And you can view what Jorge said, "Like the snack that you are" in a similar way. I adore details like that so so much. (I do it a lot myself so I gotta point it out)
I also love that you made all the warnings and signs that Jorge was a vampire subtle instead of overly obvious. Because yes, for a person who doesn't even know his bf being a vampire was a possibility, those could all clearly be normal things, especially in these specific. I always like a subtle vampire as opposed to it being kinda overly obvious. Like yes, pls, make it extremely possible for a vampire to completely blend in, it's so much fun that way (but I also know the inverse is just as fun for the author cause it's a challenge, but that's neither here nor there)
My previous point is emphasized by the fact that Dani enjoys feeling akin to prey. Like babes, if only you knew you were the actual prey. And again with the continued double entendres. Truly, they had me screaming cause Dani IF ONLY YOU KNEW WHAT HE COULD AND WILL DO. Like the words "I want you to feed from me" genuinely made me do a lap around my living room cause Dani you are right there. Right there on the tip of the cliff, about to jump off into vampire sea, and oh, was he about to jump.
Also the question, the "Can I?" CAUSE AHHH ofc he asked, but ofc the context for that question wasn't there. I mean I feel like you implied Jorge's vampire switch just got turned on the second Dani said the unintentional consent to bite him so we get this might be an addled brain here for Jorge (and then ofc Dani saying stop being what pulls him out of it again like wow cool thanks, I'm so very normal about this). And Dani's unending trust for Jorge making him agree without even knowing to what. Screaming crying wtf. And the continued trust after the bite WAHHH OMG I HATE THEM. Vampires and feeling so terribly guilty about drinking from people they care about is an idea I hold near and dear to my heart.
(If my partner doesn't tell me I'm their favorite drug, I don't want them)
(Me 🤝🏻 🐢 Feeding your big beautiful author brain with our analysis (although mine is done half tired and right before bed))
Oh I absolutely LOVE it when people come back with their thoughts and feelings. Those are my favorite comebacks <3
And I saw your tags! I was actually thinking about responding to them a little later to "remind" you and maybe hope to get some thoughts out of you, hehe, but I was already SUPER happy with what you wrote then BUT THIS!!! OH explosion! I didn't expect that! Yippieeee!!!! <3
Oh I giggled when I read you skimmed the wrong parts. (I do that too sometimes) And I totally agree. I love the double meanings of those phrases, especially in that context. Like eat me, feed from me, suck me. So making a "misunderstanding" based on that was one of the fun parts for me. It is like the melt between human and vampire because for both those phares exist but mean something different. (and vampire jorge knows them in human context too btw nevermind) I'm kind of a nerd when it comes to analysis and double meaning and all that so it makes me so happy that you pointed that out. And like you said - Dani thinking he's the prey and then he's the ACTUAL PREY. I'm sorry. I know I wrote this BUT THINK ABOUT IT. Half the time I was writing this the concept in my head was "Dani thinks he's getting a blowjob/ eaten out on the kitchen counter... *BOOM* blood lost." I mostly have silly concept that I then write as serious as possible
OOOOH subtle vampirism is sooo good! Don't get me wrong, fang drop and just straight up showing it, hits hard. But I adore hiding it and having a more careful approach. Maybe a little bit insecurity about it towards a human partner? What do you think? I like the difference in it. There's like the side of the forcefully, bloody vampire aspects and the soft, almost silent side of hiding it. And Box mixed together is like AAAAAAAAAH..... And then the fear of being tossed away by their human partner and them being scared. I LOVE THOSE. I really want to write something like that in the 2nd chapter!
Okay *forehead kiss* that's it. I love you. I love it when people point out stuff I implied but not specifically stated LIKE YES. YOU GET IT. HOLY SHIT YOH GET MY WRITING. *excited little girl scream* okay the moment when Dani agrees after the "can I?" is TOTALLY where the vampire takes over. Like before he was already pulled in but then there's no stopping him anymore.
The original version was actually without that. So Jorge starts kissing down Dani's neck after those two sided comments and he just bites down. But then I reread it and especially with the struggles (I had written more fear from Dani in that moment too) it just seemed too much. And it made the trust afterwards seem unrealistic. So it just didn't add up. (I mean obviously the other alternative would have been Dani escaping - unrealistic because of the blood loss - or him being scared but I couldn't bring myself to write that without writing it in one go with them making up and I didn't had the time for that) and I tamed it down and added the "unknowing consent" part to make it make sense.
HAHA SAAAME. Vampires feeling guilty for drinking/ hurting their loved ones vs. the loved ones still loving them and wanting to care about them and still trusting them. I absolutely love this slight self hate despite acceptance for what they are (vampires/ supernatural creatures in general) but they feel guilty for what they are forced to do. And then the loved one juts NOT caring. Like not negatively caring. Caring more in a "I need to know what you are to take care of you" way. It's so dear to me. I need to write more about that.
(me hugging you and 🐢 because it means the world to me and I absolutely love to read people's thoughts cause I feel like you care about what I write and I can yapp some more)
#Feel free to share your thoughts on this obviously it would make me VERY happy!!!#Hi day!#Day tag#Dydrem tag#vampire au#I love youuuu thank you soooo much for sharing your thoughts!!#And I hope you sleep/ slept well!

Oh, I'm sorry that you feel that way:( I hope you feel alright soon! If you want to talk I'm here 🫂
Also! Is Solo Leveling that good? I have been thinking about reading/watching it but I don't know...
Have a great day! 🍀 Anon
AWWWW BABE that's so sweet of you, thank you 😭 I'm okay, I'll be better soon! Just a little runny nose, nothing to worry about hehe
To me Solo Leveling is SOOOOOO GOOOOOOODDDD!!! I think I've read the manhwa five times by now and I've watched the show twice LMAO (had to rewatch it in eng dub cause jinwoo sounds even more GODLY there). If you like pure power fantasy kind of show with fast pacing and great action sequences, this is definitely for you. I know a lot of people complain about the storyline being mid and how they focus solely on Jinwoo and make the other characters feel unimportant and while yes in some ways that is true (the story is pretty simple but it's executed very well in terms of being entertaining) I feel like it's just so much fun to read/watch so I don't really understand the problem.
I do encourage you to read the manhwa first, and then watch the show. It only has 200 chapters and I swear you won't be able to put it down once you start (my husband and I both finished it in 2 days, we just couldn't stop LOL). the art in the manhwa is AMAZING and the mc has so much more aura there (i hate using the term aura cause it's been overused but like... he definitely has aura in the manhwa, even more than the anime).
for example, this panel in comparison (left is from the manhwa, the right one is from the anime):

also, they cut a lot of stuff from the anime, so I think it's better if you read the manhwa first and then watch the show. There are moments that are better in the anime, cause it's longer, but you should definitely read the manhwa.
If you like something that makes your heart squeeze and your brain work a little, please watch 86!!!
That's the top anime on my list like it's truly the best anime I've ever seen. Each character is admirable, very well developed. Soundtrack's a banger (made by the same composer of Solo Leveling), animation is nice and consistent and THE PLOT AND ALL THE DETAILSSSS UGHHHH SO GOOD!!!
You're gonna need to rewatch it twice though to really understand/see everything since it has so many subtle foreshadowings, parallels, and details that you might miss during your first watch especially since the storytelling isn't linear, like you go back and forth between two different POVs but it's SO GOOD seriously. bawled my eyes out in two different episodes. still bawling on my third rewatch. insane.
#i actually prefer manhwa jinwoo he's just so so so soooooo much hotter to me like WOW that's a MAN right there 😩#i also love the anime version tho they make him kinder and more human in a way#I JUST LOVE JINWOO PERIOD UGH I CAN WRITE A THESIS ABOUT HIM MY MAN MY LOVE MY EVERYTHING#tldr yes please watch solo leveling so i can scream how hot jinwoo is at you nonnie thank you#ALSO WATCH 86!!!!!! the mc Shinei Nouzen is my BABYYYYYY!!!#have a great day too nonnie i hope you're having a wonderful weekend ❤️#kana answers stuff

Hi I’m back and I finally got around to watching longlegs and it’s such a good movie omg also this may sound stupid but i didn’t hear maikas voice before and it’s so pretty so thank you for finally getting me to watch longlegs ok bye sorry for the yap fest
DUDE RIGHT? like, when I first saw it, I very much went into it with the expectation of being scared shitless due to all the reviews calling it the scariest film of the decade and all, so when I wasn't, my friends and I were pretty disappointed. but, then, I did more reading on analysis on the film, as well as the theories about the film being a metaphor for trauma and/or complicated familial + parent-child dynamics, and that made me love it so much more, then. like, I think really contemplating on the film, and things like lee and ruth's dynamics and all the resentment, strain and love there, lee's trauma and memory suppression, even the possible meanings of the dolls and the families they're given to -- there's a lot of analysis that can be done, and I really appreciate that. plus, the film has a lot of subtle details, clues and foreshadowing :o honestly, if you ever wanna dive into the theories and analysis, my friend, rick, has really great, detailed content on @mignonettesauce !!
and not stupid at all hehe!! I agree, she has such a lovely voice, and I've noticed in the movie, when she's playing lee, her voice sounds a bit lighter and breathier than in real life, but I think both tones are so soothing. and omg don't apologize, I'm SO happy I got to hear your thoughts and that you enjoyed it!!

silent hill 2 remake continues to delight me. even more so, now that maria is here :D
i enjoyed blue creek apartments quite a lot. it seems like the remake has taken the opportunity to completely rethink what once were fairly simple puzzles in the original - things like the clock puzzle feel very intentionally designed. the souls-like nature of the level design shines through in this dungeon especially - finding each clock hand requires you to go out in one direction and then circle back to the save point by opening shortcuts, which i liked. i did not like dying a handful of times and losing quite a bit of progress... but i think that is mostly a problem with me no longer playing on emulator, lol.
speaking of the puzzles... i noticed that it's now pretty explicit about what objects you should be looking for:

i don't think i like this decision. the remake's new interact button already makes explicit what objects are important, and i think that one of the fun things about silent hill as a series is picking up random shit and going "now how is this going to be useful..." without knowing beforehand what you're looking for.
let's see, more blue creek notes. the expanded moth room was great! i liked the big moths! also, they added a few new shots to the angela mirror cutscene that i thought were quite cool. i don't thiiink they changed that cutscene much? angela's voice actor is good, though.
also.... toilet!!!!! plus the original "stick hand in strange hole" bit! wow, they upped the amount of weird places for james to put his hand in the remake. i love that the toilet is no longer optional.

look at him. he's having a great time.
and finally: pyramid head!! i was glad to have more space to do the fight this time hehe. honestly, even more than the fight, i loved the huge knife-gashes that appear in the floor at a certain point... even though i knew what was coming, that was such a great way to create a sense of dread. (also, the mannequins near the clock room that move closer and closer to you...)

i liked seeing this staircase in hd also. that was just a neat touch. (in general, all the glitchy memory-moments are very fun... a great sort of easter egg!)
speaking of pyramid head, i noticed that if you try and reload the autosave before his bossfight, it's listed as "red pyramid thing"! even though james doesn't say that line in this version :|
anyway... most importantly.... MARIA 💖💖💖
i haven't even seen much of her but i already have so many things to say! james seems more scared(?) than fascinated by maria in the remake; he has a definite Repressed Energy here. (the way he delivers the line "can't you just tell me where it is?" kills me, oh man, he's so breathless...) maria also seems more like a normal person...? she still has a playful and slightly weird energy, but it's way toned down & laid back compared to the "suspicious seductress" vibes of the original. i'm a lil sad about that tbh; i love how in the original she's coming onto james really hard. she's also more teasing/presumptuous in the og - i miss her line where she's like "oh so the hotel was your special place? i'm sure it was ;)" like that's so obnoxious... though i am glad maria keeps her flirtiness, even if it's a bit more subtle.
funny how maria rather than james is the one to think of the hotel as the second "special place"? maria's just kind of like "oh yeah i'll take you there, it's not far." i do like how this sets maria up as a sort of authority rather than a passive "following james around" figure, AND i really like how it foreshadows james's memory issues (to put it mildly), BUT in terms of the overall plot of the game i think it loses something significant by not immediately naming the hotel as the other potential destination. now, i'm only as far as jack's inn so it's possible that maria could say something at any time that will invalidate this entire thread of commentary, but i think something that makes the original sh2 feel so tight plot-wise is that for the entire game, you're always heading towards one of two destinations: the park, or the hotel. not having james immediately knowing that he needs to go to the hotel makes him feel less driven - makes it feel like the plot has gotten away from him a bit. unless... this is intentional? giving that power to maria is definitely interesting... it's a whole new way of making her a little suspicious! like maybe she's untrustworthy, but james has to trust her now!
also extremely fun to see the small changes surrounding maria's line where she's convincing james to let her come along. in the og, "i look like mary... you loved her, right?" seems deliberately provocative: she's giving him a reason to accept her. whereas in the remake, the one extra line ("is it because i remind you of her?") recontextualizes everything. here, maria seems more empathetic: she recognizes that her similarity to mary is a reason for james to hesitate, but she still spins it into a reason for james to care about her ("you loved her, didn't you. ...didn't you?") as another note, i like that second "didn't you?" a lot more as a sudden moment of doubt than the original line ("or maybe you hated her!"). the og one speaks more to maria's obnoxious/provocative streak that i enjoy, but i think the remake line, because it's less ridiculous/out of nowhere, works a lot better to subtly cast doubt on james's relationship with mary.
also this made me rewatch the original "meeting maria" scene and i have to note that i love the way james delivers the "oh yeah, three years ago... but i got a letter from her! :D" bit. it's like.. bro forgot she was dead..... (not like this doesn't also happen in the remake, just.. the original's voice acting is something special man)
okay ummmm i didn't mean to spend so many words close reading the minutiae of that scene. anyway. more maria things! GOD i love that she banters with james now while they're walking. just an inarguably positive addition to the game. it's always the best when two characters chat during gameplay - like 2B and 9S from nier automata! i fucking love how maria startles when james breaks windows (but also sounds kind of excited about it). also her checking out her og outfit in the one hotel room?? really good moment. also this:

finally:

silent hill 3 reference babey!!!!!!! very very subtle. i like this a lot.
my final thought of the night (unrelated to maria sorry) is that i think the game is reaaally missing a lock-on/target enemies button. maybe that would make it too easy, but idk... the original had that... and it seems like a good thing to put in if you're making combat a bigger part of the game...... not to be like "dark souls!" but even dark souls has a lock-on button......
