I think the problem to me is that people who are mainly into the fandom side of star wars don't get that Maul is not the loud, dramatic monologuing villain he seems like around Obi-Wan. he is only "overconfident" in battle. every time he takes over a place or organization he has someone else be the public leader while he rules behind the scenes. he's nearly impossible to track down. he doesn't want to be the center of attention. he doesn't like when people pay attention to him. unless he wants to kill them

idk if this is a hot take but I don't think Armin is friendly. I think people find him generally off-putting. Like, people think he looks sweet, but also find him strange; for the topics that interest him, the way he didn't stray far from Eren (& Mikasa) socially, and his general demeanor.

I think that as Armin established himself more as he grew up, he developed better interpersonal skills that compliment his rhetorical prowess. I think he's the type of person who sees value in life and in minimizing harm. He offers kindness to his friends and understanding to all. But I don't see him as particularly "friendly"

growing increasingly worried at the shift in the fandom spaces in regards to the way people approach others' art. this whole wave moving towards 'what can this do for me?' as if art's something that should be tailored to specific numbers in the audience. which then breeds a sort of entitlement in the very same audience where the artist is pushed to a place where they feel like they either owe something to the audience or they are forced to mold themselves into a 'desirable' content machine that's there to please the masses.

and i feel like it just ends up with the general result of the overall quality of art decreasing because the people that DO go with the flow and (willingly or not) embrace this approach end up producing rather generic, often uninspired art OR those who stick to more complex, nuanced, original ideas get discouraged and pushed out by yet another low-effort but 'relatable' piece of fan art that's meant to appeal to as broad of an audience as possible.

and don't get me wrong, i know it's a tale as old as time in art in general. AND there's nothing inherently wrong with creating self-indulgent art with themes that are familiar and comforting. after all, for the most part that's been the basis of a lot of fan art and fan fiction. but i feel like before there was more balance, a certain distinction. room for everyone in their niches, big or small.

nowadays, with all the algorithms tailoring the online experience for you specifically and the growing use of AI character chat bots and the (genuinely heartbreaking) popularity of fics written using AI, it's affecting fandom spaces more and more. people expect the same sort of treatment from the artists that make fan art and i don't think that's a healthy approach.

Cullen in DAO sometimes gets stuck between presenting the perfect victim or a heinous villain when he isn't either.

No victim is perfect. How everyone deals with trauma is different but a majority is going to be ugly. There is no appeasing the masses, it's vicious and many times detrimental.

That is what Cullen was. He lashed out, fueled on anger and fear. It's understandable, but at the same time, it can still be inexcusable.

When I point out him being treated as the perfect victim, I don't just mean his representation of being a victim, I also mean excusing his words and actions as perfect responses. That the call for Annulment is a justified response.

It is not.

Both things can be true- Cullen is a victim, and he can be wrong. The abuse Cullen went through goes far beyond what we are seen and told. It is not a surprise he came out of it with delirium and mania. He is afraid, and he acts on fear- yet he can still be horribly wrong for calling for Annulment.

Victims can do bad things. Annulment is for the full-on massacure of the mages- many who are also victims to the same blood mages and demons. To call forth a death sentence to people who have lived their life in a cage- doomed to whatever outcome.

But here's the thing in which a few people tend to mistake about my own analysis of Cullen- I do not think it's out of character for him to call for it. Cullen was a young templar who suffered under the hands of blood mages and demons. All he knows is that fact.

I am not surprised he called for the Annulment. I don't blame him in that I see why someone would call for such a heinous rite. Yet I can still see he is wrong, that he shouldn't have demanded it in the first place.

I definitely understand the need to be defensive of his actions in part of how certain people like to villanize Cullen. But I think Cullen is a more interesting character when you are open to both loving and criticizing his character in the overall DA narrative.

Talking about the actual dialogue for a second- trying not to get too carried away only focusing on the visuals.

Im very concerned we’re going to have a moment with the power going out, Papyrus and Flowey being stuck without the elevator just like Alphys and Wingdings were. Some chicanery is gonna happen comparing and contrasting how they handle that compared to the 2 scientists. Ofc thats a lot of speculation- But I cant help but feel like the talk about “the energy hopfully lasting long enough” is leading up to something….not fun.

Maybe what they do down here is a weird time mumbo jumbo that is important to make what happens in the past- happen. Maybe thats why Gaster is watching them…
