Their mortal parents don't know what to do with them, even if they do care for them immensely. They are labeled as troublemakers, as bad kids, as mentally ill, as freaks and monsters who see things they shouldn't see and have an aversion to authority that they shouldn't have and a strong sense of justice and an inability to sit still, read, play, act, feel normally. Percy got in trouble for getting into fights, for speaking impulsively, he was mocked and spoken down to and expelled from lots of schools who couldn't handle him and he didn't know why until he was twelve years old. Sally wasn't able to tell him why.

Annabeth was the product of her father's relationship with a goddess, and he loved her for a while, but she wasn't a normal kid. When he fell in love with a mortal and Annabeth didn't get along with her or her kids, he chose the mortal side. How could he understand Annabeth's side? Alright can I rant about Snotlout for a sec?

In rtte at least he’s highkey one of my favorite characters, NOW GUYS HEAR ME OUT— he’s flawed, I know he’s flawed, but it makes me so angry when people miss the point of his character just because of the flaws he has. Personally, I think Snotlout is actually quite a gentle compassionate person, we see this in rtte, he genuinely trusts Hiccup and the other riders (except when he doesn’t but I’ll get to that) and I think, if he wasn’t forced into the role he now occupies, he’d be a lot kinder of a character.

Highkey, I blame it on Spitelout, because Snotlouts fatal flaw isn’t hubris- it’s insecurity, deep DEEP insecurity. He wants Hiccup’s approval, we have this literally spelled out to us in the episode where Spitelout builds that storehouse, and in the episode where Snotlout stops the group from getting killed looking for where the hunters are growing their dragon root (near the beginning of said ep)

With how Snotlout acts around his father, I’m gonna say it guys, Spitelout is abusive. Point blank that’s just what i think, we see Spitelout pressuring his son to do things in the show, and Snotlout is so scared of his father’s disapproval he does these things, every time.

All his cockiness is just a facade, and honestly the biggest crime the movies committed was not taking into account all the character development he went through during rtte, they confused his persona, his defense mechanism to be his actual personality. I love Snotlout I’m adopting him he’s literally my little man :(

Oh no pt2. I know why I took a break from Riddle’s Dreaming of You. Turns out, I was at an impasse. I’m at an impasse. Sometimes it goes away when you come back. Not this time. Nope, it’s a character issue, which is probably the worst problem I can have. I’ll elaborate because I need help

Slight Spoilers for Riddle’s Dream:

The first dream is totally fine. It’s perfect! I love it!

The second? That’s where the problems start cause now I have to be a bit more realistic. Usually? That’s fine. However, we just saw Riddle being all over Reader. Trying to bridge the gap is hard, but it needs to be there. I’m already bending the rules a bit (more like adding rules but there were over 3k in Riddle’s dream. Pretty sure most of those aren’t all real, so I’m just following the direction the plot already set up for me).

Regardless, my initial thought was to have this section be more cute and innocent or whatever. Now, this is the real issue. Riddle can only be a cutie if he feels safe. Anyone who watches Riddle’s second dream knows he does not feel safe. He feels insecure and it’s obvious. The solution would be to make him feel safe. However, I don’t know how to get him there. They can’t just like abandon their post and go to Riddle’s room. The card soldiers can’t function without their queen…

Hmmmm… so what I’m saying is to focus on making Riddle feel safe. That should solve my problem. Plus, it feels less daunting than what I was trying to do
