eddie and buck standing in the kitchen after eddie comes back—eddie's kitchen which was buck's kitchen and is now for this dreamlike moment of time buck-and-eddie's kitchen—and it's late. they've been unpacking all day and chris is asleep in his room, everyone finally where they belong, and eddie's like. hey, what're you thinking abt, bc buck can't seem to look at him and also can't seem to look away. and buck's like. oh. um. its. hah. really stupid. just. we kind of forgot to hug? but it's not—it's whatever. and eddie who has been thinking abt the exact same thing since buck gave chris a big teary bear-hug on the doorstep and then—didn't touch eddie, is like oh. well. we could do it now. you know, like a belated hello. if you want. and buck stares at him for a moment. and says, hey eddie. and eddie says, hey. and they step in close. and it's just a hug but it feels tentative. important. when buck wraps his arms around him and tucks his face into his neck, eddie can feel both their hearts racing, way too fast for what's happening. and neither of them has anywhere else to be, maybe ever again, so they hold each other tightly in the kitchen for a very very very long time.

i was gonna say i'm unsure whether you're referring to the Gender Stuff or the Job Stuff but honestly it's all connected; i think he's maybe like 75% of the way to realizing that part of why it hit him so hard that thespius's work was rejected was because he related a bit too much to the queer themes himself, and it was all too easy to cut out the middleman; if he were to stay at his job, he'd have to treat himself no differently than all the scripts that pass over his desk: cut anything Unappealing, strip down everything that makes him who he is, act as an unobtrusive cog in a corporate machine

it'll still be a bit of time before he realizes precisely what it is that he's been cutting out about himself, but he's certainly on his way <3

golden kamuy oc time YAY

i'll be honest, i don't really proper lore or a backstory for him atm, he's just basically a self insert for myself but like... idk i plan to have more fun with him and eventually try to develop him as a character (who just happens to resemble me loll) i'll try to have a bunch of organized information for him somewhere soon

i do have some basic info though!

i think the current main idea i have in mind is that tsurumi is the first person to recognize kamiya as a man (which is a big deal to him!) alongside some other stuff that i'll eventually properly flesh out hopefully. idk if he's like... officially part of the actual 7th division but he is aligned with that group for sure. idk i feel like making it all work out realistically will be a hassle but !! idc we have fun here that's the priority! kamiya likes to do undercover missions a lot as it aligns with his skills well and he's also just used to pretending to be someone he's not soooo.. yaaa

for personality and behavior and such: either seems quiet and distant, or is the most sweet and silly thing ever. kamiya uses this range to mask himself around people (for example, undercover missions). despite his reserved disposition, he's actually an extrovert who tries to get on everyone's good side & hates being alone. he's been through a lot and tends to take his feelings out on himself a lot (especially as a response to anger). kamiya might end up especially clingy to those he enjoys/tolerates the company of. this man craves physical touch sooo bad you have no idea

skills include: good hearing and speed, skilled with bladed weapons (bayonet) and decent with pistols/revolvers, musically and artistically inclined, good at blending in and disguising himself

flaws/stuff he's bad at: poor vision, completely unable to swim (and even float in some cases), difficulty with handling cold temps, not the best with rifles and such, mental health is.. not so great! pretty bad! he just reeaalllyy tries to mask it

extra bonus info: cat coded but NOT LIKE OGATA ! he is like a pathetic domestic cat that jumps at the slightest sounds and demands attention and cuddles. kamiya is no wildcat that's for sure lol.. oh also when it comes to being undercover, kamiya doesn't mind disguising himself as a woman! he likes the excuse to get dolled up and look pretty.

How to use tìftang (the apostrophe thing) when naming your Na'vi OC

The most important thing to note here is that tìftang is not decorative!! It’s not just there to make words/names look cool! It’s a consonant and represents an actual sound (specifically a “glottal stop”, aka that little catch in the back of your throat when you say “uh-oh”). Adding tìftang to your OC’s name will affect the pronunciation of said name.

When using tìftang in your OC’s name, you want to make sure it’s next to at least one vowel (a, ä, i, ì, e, u, o) or diphthong (ay, aw, ey, ew).

✅ Ka'ul ✅ Ka'nul ✅ Kat'ul

It CANNOT go between two consonants—this is a VERY common mistake!!

🚫 Kat'nul This is not pronounceable! It’s like having a character whose name is meant to be pronounced “Bob” or “Jimmy” but for some reason spelling it “Bokb” or “Jimtmy”.

The reason for this is Na'vi syllable structure. Tìftang can start or end a syllable, but it cannot go in the middle of a syllable, because it cannot cluster with other consonants.

For practical examples of what that means, let’s look back at the previous examples:

Ka'ul can break down into either [ka'][ul] or [ka]['ul], so tìftang is either ends the first syllable, or begins second syllable.

Ka'nul breaks down into [ka'][nul]; tìftang ends the first syllable.

Kat'ul breaks down into [kat]['ul]; tìftang begins the second syllable.

So what about Kat'nul? There are a few ways to break it down, and none of them work. [kat'][nul] and [kat]['nul] are both invalid because, while the tìftang is at the end/beginning of the syllable like in the other examples, it’s clustering with t or n. Remember that tìftang cannot cluster with other consonants!

The other way to break it down—and probably the way most people unfamiliar with Na'vi would be thinking—would be [kat]'[nul], with the intended pronounced syllables just being “kat” and “nul” with the tìftang thrown in to look cool and alien. This doesn’t work because again, tìftang is not decorative! It is a letter with a sound (one that’s not even really physically possible to pronounce properly between a t and n even without the syllable rules), not a punctuation! Kat'nul-pronounced-Katnul the Na'vi is just Jimtmy-pronounced-Jimmy the human. Just spell it Katnul!

Speaking of clustering, here’s another mistake I see sometimes (though a little less commonly):

🚫 K'atnul

This is also not pronounceable, because while yes the tìftang is next to a vowel, within its syllable it’s clustering with k. Remember that tìftang can only begin or end a syllable; it can’t go in the middle of one like [k'at]!!

Now, here’s a quick thing to be aware of. Remember earlier on I mentioned that tìftang must go next to a vowel or diphthong? Let’s talk about diphthongs real quick:

A diphthong is what you get when two vowels merge into a single sound. Na'vi has four of them. They are written ay (a+i), aw (a+u), ey (e+i), and ew (e+u). That said, you could have a names like these:

✅ Kaw'nul ✅ Key'nul

…but not like these:

🚫 Kow'nul 🚫 Kuy'nul

Why does the first set work but not the second? Because in the first set, the w and y are not standalone consonants, but rather part of the aw and ey diphthongs. In the second set, however, ow and uy are not diphthongs, so the w and y are regular consonants, which means Kow'nul and Kuy'nul don’t work for the same reason as Kat'nul: tìftang cannot go between two consonants. (changing the spellings to Kou'nul and Kui'nul would work, however!)

tl;dr - to assess whether you are using tìftang correctly in your OC name, ask yourself three questions:

1.) Is it next to at least one vowel (a, ä, i, ì, e, u, o) or diphthong (ay, aw, ey, ew)? ✅ Ka'ul ✅ Ka'nul ✅ Kat'ul ✅ Kaw'nul 🚫 Kat'nul 🚫 Kow'nul

2.) Does it begin/end its syllable? ✅ [ka'][nul] ✅ [kat]['ul] 🚫 [k'a][nul]

3.) Is it clustering with other consonants? 🚫 [kat'][nul] 🚫 [k'at][nul]

If your answers are yes, yes, and no, in that order, then congrats!! You have used tìftang correctly!

If your answer is no to the first two or yes to the third, you can fix it one of three ways:

Move the tìftang to a valid position: 🚫 K'anul -> ✅ Ka'nul

Remove the tìftang completely: 🚫 Kat'nul -> ✅ Katnul

Add a vowel: 🚫 Kat'nul -> ✅ Kate'nul, ✅ Kat'enul 🚫 K'atnul -> ✅ Kì'atnul 🚫 Kow'nul -> ✅ Kowa'nul

Now go forth and tìftang responsibly! :D
