That said Yuta's album is dominating and with good reason! Its only been a few days but it has a hold on me. Prisoner is my favorite so far and the Butterfly remix is growing on me but that could change. Last Song is great too, really the whole album s magnificent, Yuta really excels in the rock genre and its a crime we've been deprived of seeing him in his element before now.

Ruin by Issac Hong is always a fav but I didn't expect to see it.

the cassettes are a group of characters where if i think about them for too long i start to get physically ill.

because i really like the cassettes. they're really fun and i adore the concept of a guy who happens to have a gaggle of goons to do his dirty work. the combination of making them actual cassettes who live inside of soundwave (and/or blaster but this is gonna be a soundwave cassette focused post) is really interesting.

unfortunately most bits of canon (and fanon to be entirely honest) do not treat the cassettes as actual beings with their own thoughts, feelings, and personalities outside of "soundwave's little guys."

for the sake of clarity i will only be talking about the continuity that i have the most experience with, that being idw1 and my post will mostly be talking about those versions of the characters. i've been told that the cassettes feature more prominently in the g1 marvel comics but i haven't quite gotten around to reading those in depth so i won't be discussing those.

back on topic.

i always feel so disappointed at the actual cassettes as characters. they're often sidelined into being background characters and the majority of the time when they show up in fics they're never majour characters, just background guys to pad out the cast. i'm honestly not gonna judge fan writers and fan artists too harshly because most canon sources don't really feature the cassettes as actual characters worthy of having attention paid to them.

idw1 is specifically the continuity where i feel a bit sick whenever i think about the cassettes because they go through sooooo much shit and it's never brought up. like okay, laserbeak, buzzsaw, and ravage are mostly chill. obviously they probably have the whole beastformers are lesser beings thing going on but they're overall the most well rounded of the cassettes. (ravage especially since he's actually allowed to be a character outside of soundwave)

rumble and frenzy are were my stomach starts to like... explode. because they didn't get a choice in being soundwave's cassettes and it's never brought up, ever. megatron basically tells them that they're gonna be reformatted and neither party ever brings it up. like do rumble and frenzy just tolerate soundwave because it could be so much worse? do they genuinely respect soundwave and fight beside him because they want to see him succeed in a similar manner as the beastformers? like... phase 2 shows them reformatted again into motorcycles and they seem okay with it, like neither of them seem to be hung up on no longer being cassettes.

but also i have issues and problems with rumble and frenzy always being shown as a package duo. like i think they're a fun combo, especially as siblings because i adore platonic relationships but most pieces of canon treat them as interchangeable. like it's an ongoing joke in the fandom that they swap paint colours to fuck with people and in actual canon sources they don't have consistent colours so it's harder to actually treat them as genuine individuals. and that makes me soooooo mad. i don't like it when twins/duos in media get treated as a weird conglomerate individual with two names. it's boring and it's lazy and i wish it would stop happening.

side tangent. i hate what how skybound treats the cassettes. like okay yeah sure it's fun to see soundwave go "you hurt my ravage" but what about his other cassettes. either rumble or frenzy is dead and soundwave just doesn't fucking care? does he play favourites, boy i sure would like to know but daniel warren literally fucking said that he killed off one of the twins because he found the colour debate to be annoying and that grinds my gears a bit. if you don't like them, don't fucking include them or idk, have mike spicer, the colourist, keep their palettes consistent.

and skybound also treats ravage like an object. he's not an actual character with thoughts and feelings and emotions, he's a fucking toy for soundwave to moon over whenever warren needs soundwave to be less of an asshole than shockwave. like yeah sure, soundwave being so desperate to get ravage repaired in skybound is good for his character but that dynamic, where ravage has no actual dialogue and no actual personality outside of "soundwave's cassettte" makes him so much less interesting to me. skybound is getting a small benefit of the doubt because there's only 11 issues so far, but i will critique it to all hell because any emotional tension involving ravage and soundwave falls apart for me because ravage could easily be replaced with literally any other cassette. he's not special and the comic doesn't do anything to make me genuinely care about soundwave and his relationship.

tangent over. i'm going back to talking about idw1.

specifically it's time to talk about the fucking elephant in the room that i'm always thinking about whenever soundwave's cassettes come up; ratbat.

now to preface this little rant of mine. ratbat sucks. he's a terrible person who actively believed and contributed to the oppression of millions of cybertronians. he used soundwave as nothing more than a tool and proved himself to be a slimy scumbag with the few moments that he was on screen.

however, that does not stop me from feeling just a tad bit bad for him considering how soundwave treats him. it's one thing for the decepticons to murder the whole senate, those characters don't really matter in the long run, they're nameless, they never get brought up ever again and the story just doesn't care about them once they're dead.

but ratbat is different because rather than killing him, soundwave shoves his dying spark into a cassette body and for all intensive purposes, turns ratbat into his slave. because ratbat doesn't get a choice, he doesn't get the ability to say no. he just has to be toted along and do whatever soundwave tells him to do and that alone makes my opinions on idw soundwave.... well they're not great. because later stories treat idw soundwave like he's a good guy, he's the dude who wants to make the decepticons what they were originally, he wants to be done with cybertron's bullshit.

and i have to sit there, fist clenched, wanting to grab him by the fucking shoulders and ask "WHAT ABOUT RATBAT? WHAT ABOUT THE GUY WHO YOU LITERALLY MADE INTO A SLAVE FOR AT FOUR MILLION YEARS AND WHOSE DEATH YOU DIDN'T HAVE ANY REACTION TO WHATSOEVER? DOES LIBERATION AND EQUALITY ONLY MATTER WHEN IT COMES TO GUYS WHO DIDN'T PERSONALLY FUCK YOU OVER?"

ehem, anyways, yeah i do not like the fact that idw just brushes over the fact that ratbat is not willingly soundwave's cassette. they do not ever focus on the fact that soundwave stuffed his former employer's spark into a completely different frame and then proceeded to do exactly what ratbat did to him for around four million years. and then didn't react whatsoever to ratbat dying.

like in early idw1, ratbat doesn't have any dialogue. he's a nothing burger character like all the other cassettes. but idw phase 2 specifically makes him a political rival. he's the guy in charge of the cons (along side shockwave to some extent) and then prowl fucking orders arcee to kill ratbat and no one ever talks about him ever again...

i have complicated emotions regarding ratbat because the story really wants you to see his treatment and go, yes, he deserves this treatment, he's evil and he was mean to soundwave and therefore he deserves to be imprisoned by another and used as a weapon for four million years and once he's dead we'll never talk about him ever again.

and i don't think that's fair. ratbat should've been a crucial character to soundwave after he died. soundwave should've had a moment in phase two where he realises that the decepticons have been terrible from the beginning, that he was actively a part of that terribleness, and he should've made the active decision to change the decepticons into something that stands for equality and freedom and peace.

i'm gonna move onto ravage because i feel so bad for ravage. he got shafted hard. oh the one hand, i love mtmte ravage, i adore seeing the cassettes in environments that don't involve soundwave because it means the writers have to actually care about them as more than just little guys that soundwave bosses around.

unfortunately, ravage goes from being soundwave's little guy to being megatron's little guy in mtmte. which like... okay, fine, megatron needs a guy who he can bounce off of and ravage fits that role pretty well (though i'd argue that having megatron potentially bounce off of an autobot whose morals are a bit lax is much better than simply having a decepticon who already likes him.)

but the point is, ravage, rather than being his own character who has thoughts and opinions, only exists to be a buffer for megatron. the devil on his shoulder if you will, trying to see and understand and coax megatron back into being the fearsome leader he was before. and it works to some extent, ravage getting fatally injured is literally what prompts megatron into ripping the djd to shreds. but unfortunately, that's ravage's only real purpose in the story. we don't see him interacting with any other characters means that he's entirely dependent on megatron for any insight to his character development. nautica is an exception but i have my own issues with the fact that she treats him like a pet upon first meeting him and like... to my knowledge she never really gets over that whole cute kitty aspect of their relationship.

and this makes me so mad because ravage is really interesting. he's older than most of the characters on the lost light and should reasonably be a fascinating insight to how beastformers are treated and discriminated against during the pre and post war eras. but instead he's relegated to a side character who gets murdered to further the arc of megatron, a character who sort of forgets about ravage as soon as lost light starts. this isn't helped by megatron's character arc being rushed and happening mostly off screen but ravage's death feels so unnecessary to me. he would've been much better had he been forced to be separated from megatron for most of lost light.

and unfortunately this is much the same for most other continuities. transformers prime my forever detested treats laserbeak like a fucking drone. it doesn't have any voicelines, it's just a little creature hooked up to soundwave's chest. (i haven't read the books because i cannot be bothered with aligned continuity and also if i have to go to external sources of canon beyond the original show to get key character information, it probably wasn't too important to begin with)

earthspark is fun in season 1, i'm happy that frenzy and laserbeak are allowed a few moments of time outside of soundwave but they're very minor characters and unfortunately ravage isn't much of a character considering he can't speak (which is weird because laserbeak can) and only gets a few scenes throughout seasons 1 and two.

cyberverse only has laserbeak and once again she/he (i don't think they state their pronouns) only exists to be soundwave's little guy.

tfa soundwave is so nothing burger that i genuinely forget that he exists 90% of the time. so his cassettes, as to be expected, not characters and just random objects to be played around with.

my point in all this is that the cassettes deserve better. they deserve to be actual genuine characters who are treated as more than just set pieces for soundwave and the other decepticons. i hope that in later transformers series, the writers give the cassettes the opportunity to shine.

I'm really curious as to your opinions on the origins from dragon age origins. Which one is your favourite and why? And what drew you to the mage origin? I personally chose the elven mage origin because it gave me the most dialogue options tbh, but i think the dwarf noble is a lot better, but it's just not relevant to the overarching story so I chose mage instead even though it does feel like a weaker origin in comparison. I would have chosen dalish elf, but I'm not a big fan of the way the origin itself is written apart. Qunari and dwarves are my favourite races lore wise but the way, they keep getting sidelined by the story just makes me choose elf, which I don't really like playing as. In veilguard qunari are just humans with horns like you get like 3 or 4 race dialogue options. 😅

dwarven PCs getting shafted by interactivity is the dragon age experience unfortunately 💔 veilguard at least picked it up a LOT in comparison to other games if you ever want to replay it as a dwarf....... (<- hint)

hilariously though i have a similar opinion as you. dwarf noble is my favorite by far out of all of them, with the duster origin being a close second, and cousland as a third favorite. the aeducan origin itself was just sooooo fun had so much personality. i liked how you could either be a smug stuck-up asshole, a carefree fun-loving noble, a True Dwarf with all the brutal cunning and ambition it takes to survive Orzammar, or a softer character that cared about family over duty and was therefore doomed to failure from the get go. it also makes the paragon of her kind quest much more impactful and rewarding because aeducan has so much personal baggage, history, and context with bhelen and harrowmont that adds a LOT more nuance to that entire storyline than the other origins get. you've been victimized firsthand by the brutal backstabbing politics and tradition of orzammar. do you help to reform that society? or do you perpetuate it out of a personal vendetta against the very man who used it against you? it's soooooo yummy

i ended up making my amell my "canon" warden though because i like that connection to hawke and i feel like it provides soooo much more depth to bethany's story in particular if you play a non-mage hawke. plus trisha in particular ended up having a lot more angst and trauma to explore that i really wanted to dig into and she just by consequence being the one i gave the most thought to and got attached to the most over the years.

i feel like cousland has the most "dragon age origins" specific impact of the origins though. it's the only one with a personal connection to one of the main antagonists who, otherwise, feels very disconnected from the overall conflict. i also think the sole survivor narrative of the origin story is very strong in context with the grey warden plotline and gives you a lot of potential with the alistair dynamic as a result. not to mention you get your own special ending to the landsmeet LOL plus the way it carries over to awakening.... it's very well-woven into the overarching plot of the series and feels a lot more central and impactful. it kind of annoys me it gets so downplayed by fandom because it's the "alistair romance ^_^" origin because i do think it has a lot of meat that the other origins don't really touch.

whats your take on branch's brothers? if dreamworks weren't cowards we could have explored their family dynamic, their depth into them and gotten a more detailed explanation onto why they left instead of leaving it at that. the storyline with the bergens couldve been a factor onto why they couldnt come back (except JD and maybe Floyd) im tired of people charactisiding them as these horrible siblings that abandoned their baby brother when it wasnt the case.

First off, don't worry, I'm not a brozone hater. In fact, I love nothing more than putting these guys under a microscope and pulling in patch work headcanons for all of them.

But I'm gonna have to write them in the context of my au since I've honestly thrown cannon out the window since trolls 1 & 2. Hell, I have an ask that I answered about how Branch remembering he had siblings didn't feel right so here we are.

John Dory: the most parentified older siblings of all older siblings.

Did accidentally give Bruce an eating disorder.

Did accidentally make clay feel unloved when giving Clay the silly persona that initially helped me stay out some of the boyband expectations and enjoy his hyperactive childhood.

Floyd might have had some issues with his persona idk, but the initial idea was that it was a excuse for his stage fright and it worked, being the sensitive one put some pressure off of him.

Things went downhill when a fan read a history book on the Perfect Family Harmony and than told John Dory about it on live tv and made the rest of the brozone fans have expectations.

Definitely had a suicidal/grey period when he came back to the Troll tree and damn good proof that everyone was dead.

Was a chicken when he got Bruce's mail.

Branch is more patient with John because he actually bothered trying to find his body. JD is stuck in the past but it's nice that he's not Pop Troll "forget the dead".

Had a relationship with Delta Dawn, commitment issues scared him off. Made-out with dickory in a dark corner of a bar once. Running joke that he has a thing for red heads since 1 Pop Troll, Delta, and dickory were the only relationships he had in all 40 years of his life and he's cool with that.

Don't get me started with how I queer him.

Planing an angst route for Branch just so I can demi-romatic hook up JD with Jax (who is also an older parentified sibling).

2. Clay: Read Caught In The Middle by Awesome_Sauce432 interpretation of Clay. It's the good kush.

So simple, but Clay had Putt Putt co-leader responsibilities.

So very sad, Clay prioritied Viva over all his brothers, including Branch and Grandma Rosiepuff, and followed her lead of never going back to Pop Forest, soooooo.... congratulations Clay, you are now the universe's most cruelest punchline in the joke that is Branch’s preventable suffering life.

Viva was pissed when she hears he left his bros tho. They worked it out.

Anger issues? Yeah, at least when it's comes to JD.

3.Bruce and Floyd

I know it's such a cop-out and you can disagree with me, but those two got that Pop Troll "forget the past" (if not the dead) mentality. Also that procrastination of no news is good news is craaaaazzzzy, but accurate since the alternative is having to face their mistakes.

Bruce is healthier than Floyd. That big beautiful man got therapy and tried sending JD a post card with his literal address, but since he had no beef with Branch or knew where Floyd and Clay were, Bruce didn't send mail back to the tree and thought the 3 of those dudes were fine.

Floyd had to have gone to rehab at some point. Being the most responsible 13 year old in his family and than being able to go wild in the music industry? Yeah it happend.

Someone made a comic of Floyd being a music teacher in MT Ragious and than having his students Velvet and Veneer catch him, it was on twitter, and now cannon for me.

Being a baby himself and rehab, I'd say Floyd had 9/10 years to keep his promise to Branch, not 20ish, but broke that promise everyday until it was too late.

The promise his made was a Pop Troll promise you'd say on a whim to make someone feel better (ya know Pop Trolls lie to save feeling) and might not have taken it as seriously as he should have.

Floyd's on the bottom of my list and the shock he's gonna get from being Branch’s fav to being on the bottom with Clay's own hypocrisy to take Branch seriously is karmic justice for me.

They all get to be a part of Branch’s life in the late future tho. And there is very little plans for a diamond Floyd tragedy. Although, no of the recognise grey mercenary 'Bark' at first and it's gonna bite them in the butt.

this is a REALLY good prompt and i could be here all fucking day discussing every aspect of it and also that i the studio that made it and thief 4 is NOT as bad as everyone thinks it is and they have every right to be proud of it but thats a massive tangent and i havent even started yet. i love thief. garrett i miss you every day. anyway.

the gotg game actually has my fav interpretations of most of the guardians too which surprised me. im assuming ud wanna mostly hear my thoughts on the story stuff anyway even tho i am umm. an action game snob and i have a lot to say abt that stuff too cz its just a fantastic game and it was on my radar long before i actually got into gotg coz the reviews were like 'yo this is a great action game' and im like oooooohhh wiggles my fingers. anyway.

ok this um. turned out really fucking long coz i got wrapped up talking abt magus meta stuff again so. grins. 3k words long. the magus stuff is past the spoiler break bt its. kind of tied to what i was talking abt w the game version so. shrugs

game mantis is BY FAR my fav version of her its like the perfect fusion of her comic appearances in early gotg and the movie version. i like the comic ver bt she can b a little overly serious and i think the shift to make her more light hearted and fun was a good one. like how they changed peter to be a music guy and a tad sillier. i think it fits. and while i do actually like her mcu version its also like. too silly. mcu forgets that shes also like actually very wise and in tune w emotions and how other ppl think, and also a badass martial artist. right. game mantis gets to be all of those things at once. also shoutout to her voice actor for doing an awesome job.

draxxx.... im honestly still not sure if i prefer alien drax or mr douglas drax. if moondragon is around then i def want mr douglas. bt if shes not then its like... no harm done...? not much to say here other than that i do love tht everyone indulges him. thats like the big thing abt the game for me. the banter is sooo good, they playfully rib each other like friends do but u can tell they genuinely care abt each other just from the way theyre willing to go along w each others weird habits or unfamiliar culture stuff. so from that angle i rly like how they did drax, and his talk w peter in knowhere... ToT a problem w drax is also that i think too many things treat him as a joke to be laughed at for being weird and the game neatly sidesteps that by giving u both but making it clear that hes still a character w depth.

i have no big thoughts on rocket honestly aside from that i dont like the little goatee thing bt im also not a huge rocket fan so my opinion is worth little here lol. i liked him. fr me my big rocket things r like. his relationship w peter and groot and i loved both of those so i have zero complaints. the ongoing 'my ship' thing w peter was so well done compared to when its done in the comics LOL.

groot i just liked a lot its also my fav version of groot i think cz its so obvious how kind and sweet he is. bt so much of groot is like. dependent on rocket to help translate. that SAIDDD i love the convo sm later on when rocket+groot+mantis were all talking together and peter had no idea wht they were laughing at. wish there was a lil more of that bt theres soooooo much dialogue in the game already tht asking for more is so unfair. bt more mantis+groot would be cute. my fav groot is the one whos sooooo sweet bt also says slurs and has rocket being like YOU CANT BE SAYING THAT BUDDY. anyway ik a big part of him is also in the voice acting cz its like the Tone of how he says stuff since u cant understand him and i think the voice actor did soooo good at that. and then the little bits of physical acting too like when hes messing w the controls. i cant say too much coz u havent finished it yet ToT

gamora is where i have some issues bt its mostly coz im married to her old look+personality and dont like the newer depictions as much. in the game she comes off as rly young esp w the dyed hair and it doesnt rly fit my own view of her? as a more mature woman. one tht knows how to have fun and has a confidence tht comes with experience and doesnt rly get embarrassed abt herself or anything. so this gamora is just. different. i dont think its bad bt it doesnt mesh w my own view i guess. despite not being a huge gamora fan i have a lot of thoughts abt her esp w the way it crosses over w the magus stuff. shes a very inch resting char... i wanted to do my own outfit design fr her too bt never got around to it... coz thats my other gripe w game gamora. her outfit is so boring... ik its based on a comic look cz i read that run but i didnt like it there either. i feel like they can never decide on a good look for her at all. they either want her sexed up or not at all to the point that the outfits lose all sense of personality or flair and are just. overly practical and boring. which doesnt fit the her thats confident and likes playing w ppl. so yea. shrug on that one. as an isolated thing i like her but compared to everything else shes ever been, not so much. basically.

i actually wrote the rest of this totally forgetting to talk abt peter. i dont know what to say. abt myself for that. peter quill. i like him. u may have noticed i draw him in his game outfit like a Lot and its bcoz i ADOREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE it. SOOOO CUTE. i also like his game guns the best! the white+grey+pink just looks soooo good. hes soooo sillycute in the game i luv himmmmmmmm. bt honestly game peter is a lot like other interpretations of him! not a whole lot to say. peter kind of has a pretty locked in characterisation by now right. this is still one of my absolute fav versions tho in design and personality. i think hes had better hair bt the outfit. chef kiss. and im always a sucker for a more immature peter, like the cartoon version too tho that can take it a little too far sometimes bt it meshes well w the baby adam so idm too much bt thats a whole tangent again. peter is good coz hes stupid immature loser idiot but he Cares so genuinely and so much and always tries to do the right thing and it rly rly rly rly shows in this. even when he knows he cant rly affect much or do a whole lot. its abt the Trying. i cant say more coz of spoilers but my god does it show. they did him well. this version of adam is interesting cz hes not usually depicted as like. old and tired already. since he comes out of his cocoon all shiny new. which i love. btw. i cannot lie to u i Love the versions where hes a baby or just forgets everything and has to relearn, its rly endearing. i wish more stuff Did something with it other than the cartoon. bt anyway. tangent.

i love his cocoon in the game i wish u got to see the inside better lol. its like a little house... and so goopy... its just funny cz the game version seems truer to the comics than any other interpretation of him. bt it also feels so different? i like it a lot either way bt its Interesting to me. and im not sure how to word why. in fact i am not sure what else to add hdsfjknsd. other than that i actually dont like his outfit just coz its the same problem as the mcu one as well where its too overly complex and a muddy mess of colours. the game outfit is WAY better than whatever tf the mcu did but its still like. the same concept. too much detail and not enough broad strokes? idk how to word it. like if u take out the tiny details its just sort of. nothingburger. also no lightning symbol stuff anywhere :(

bt the most i have to say here is obvi abt magus and magus+warlock as a duo. which isssss that ok so i have a Thing where i dont generally rly like magus as an actual alt personality? i like it when hes future adam. coz thats The Point. that adam can be the warlock or the magus and all that changes is a. an internal philosophy. or a worldview. they ARE the same person. theyre not separate people. bt if its done well and theyre still intertwined enough i think i can like it the other way too? coz the point is that they could be each other, right. so warlock has the capacity for everything the magus does. the magus has the capacity for everything the warlock does. there isnt a major dividing line between them. i like how the game does it literally because of the ONE bit adam has where he admits that he misses magus. doesnt feel complete or right without it being there. after peter says 'well ur mostly fine without magus now right and u were with it for ages' and adam basically says 'well i feel empty inside and like im missing something huge and i miss it being there but yeah i guess im "mostly fine"'. i WISH we saw warlock+magus interacting properly, like wht is the actual nature of their relationship. they rly dont go into that stuff at all. so i cant rly say much aside from like 'what ifs' and stuff, u know. i wish we saw more... sigh. but i adore magus' design in it and how they tie it to adams original motifs of. well. metamorphosis. adam is a moth caterpillar. so i love that they make magus look like one too! fluffy fuzzy little caterpillar. and just like a caterpillar, its always hungry. and u cannot blame a caterpillar for being hungry, its trying to grow. bah. tangent. bt who cares. i wanted that. an adam that didnt Hate magus, knows it had to be controlled and kept in line bt not one that hated it. if adam missed it, then they mustve had Some kind of relationship. almost all of magus' problems come from wanting recognition and to exist on its own and i think the game had a setup that couldve allowed for that eventually... i want an adam that understands tht magus is a necessary evil and they can work together. "where else could i go, who else could i love but you?" - line that infects anyone who does the dark knight quests in ffxiv but a lot of ppl ignore the fact that this is specifically talking abt another aspect of urself. its abt self love. i want that for warlock and magus. warlock hates himself soooo much and he hates all of his selves and everything he used to be, bt that makes him so unhappy. he needs to learn to accept himself. and magus is a literal representation of all those things. sitting there WANTING to be loved. sigh. thats a big tangent and i have actual comic stuff in case anyone wants proof and u know what why am i stopping myself. here they are

this one could be up for debate on whether reborn magus is the 'same' as the old one but has warlock ever had that concession? not rly so i dont wanna say its different here either. this is a nature vs nurture thing that i also have some shit to say abt bt if im allowing myself ONE huge tangent here i wont go off on another one in the middle of it. actually fuck that i do what i want. and its relevant. coz there is one difference. and thats the actual original magus from the warlock comics by starlin, so actual future self adam. and then the one that spawned when warlock had the infinity gauntlet and he expelled all good and evil from himself, which is when magus became a separate entity entirely. bt also the thing in gotg v2 where he uses a discarded alt timeline that wasnt meant to happen and THAT was the one where he turns into magus so technically the reborn magus is made from the real first one that got deleted?? man idfk. i think there is a degree of separation from the two just coz its like. i dont think we know if the expelled magus experienced w. ok. im gonna call them magus1 (future adam) and magus2 (expelled evil) ok. we dont know if magus2 has the memories of magus1 or any of the actual lived experience because warlock of the main timeline DID NOT turn into magus. magus1 isnt from 616 or whatever. hes an alt version. magus2 should technically be the 616 version. i think. so magus2 could have been that mad simply out of principle of it, which is based and true and totally fair. anyway tangent over sorta. reborn child magus is magus3 and idfk which magus hes technically reincarnating from, probably magus1 since its the timeline that was destroyed tht adam brought back. REGARDLESS. WE'RE GETTING DEEP INTO THE WEEDS HERE.

loved this one cz its so clear abt it. at the core of adam is this desire to not be alone. every aspect of himself deals w it differently (amassing worshippers. usually. which is ironic because it doesnt rly fix the core issue. ppl can worship u but ull still be alone. very familiar w this sort of feeling myself.) bt warlock himself always isolates and hates himself and is miserable. he NEEDS the guardians.

Soooooo based on your latest 8x10 costume meta do you think when buddie finally happens that they will be wearing watches or no? I kind of think the latter because like, they don’t need to count down anymore or worry about not being in time/on the same time — they’ll finally be on the same page and entering a new era together.

The watch mega meta is happening - I’ve been working on it this evening - but there is 8.5 seasons of stuff to go through so it really is taking me forever to get written - especially when the show keeps giving us such Buddie epicness every episode! 😂 I’m hoping that I might be able to get it finished in the next couple of weeks but that all rather depends on what we get in the next two episodes - because I might not be able to concentrate on it if we get lots of juicy Buddie stuff - like a queer Eddie arc and Buck spiralling out in spectacular fashion!

As for the watches - I can see the benefit of either - but I lean towards them having watches on rather than not wearing watches. The reason I think this is that it feels to me like they are setting up the lack of watches as a symbol of having run out of time - as a way of signifying that something has come to an end - which is why Buck is not wearing one when Eddie leaves - because (subconsciously) he has run out of time. The other reason I lean towards them wearing watches (Eddie with his new one we’ve just had revealed and Buck with a new one as well - which we’ll see later when he’s in the right place to embrace his love for Eddie - which is why Eddie has his already - because when he realises/connects the dots or whatever process he goes through - he will be able to embrace it - but Buck is gonna spiral and be in denial for a while yet) is the Mavid engagement - where a watch was used in place of an engagement ring - to symbolise commitment and permenance. That is a traditional symbolic meaning of a watch - deep commitment - that doesn’t have to be romantic - it can be familial and there is also the tradition of a business giving long serving employees a carriage clock or a watch - again something we saw 911 show us with Ramon being given a watch when he retired.

I will go into some of this in more detail in the watch mega meta - but I think we’ll see them in watches - new ones that symbolise the new journey they are on and their changed dynamic - showing the depth of their love and commitment to each other!

i’m not a charlie hater 🤷‍♀️ i’m sure i have used that phrase before but i definitely mean it more like im giving off negative vibes / opinions as in im being a hater but not that i hate charlie. sorry if that makes no sense im insane. what i mean is that yes i guess im a charlie hater but that does not mean i hate charlie or dont like anything about his character or think he’s entirely irredeemable.

also, please talk to me about this series literally ANY time! it’s basically my full time job outside of my actual full time job. there is nothing i enjoy more 🥰 literally any time, any topic i am here for the in depth conversations. you just lmk and im there (also this is making me want to reread the entire like us series which is unfortunate because i am NOT supposed to do that this year)

i just relate to connor a lot more as a character and i don’t get really what there is to sympathize with charlie over. i only bring up connor because everyone is so determined to make charlie out to be another “version” of connor but they are so different to me. kbr paint charlie as SOOOOOO TORTURED but it’s like dude be for real you have a great life. and whatever mental issues he’s battling that sucks…but i do NOT sympathize with his treatment of the people around him especially his family

making disparaging comments about lily and lo’s addictions TO THE PUBLIC, calling them weak to their children, literally EVERYTHING he has EVER said to sulli (which i’ll admit is sometimes super funny but still MEAN AS HELL)…..these things can’t be excused. we don’t really know a lot about his inner workings which is why i’m excited to get into his head but i doubt anything could justify his general behavior towards the people around him. everyone has problems, no one else is a massive dick and uses the fact that they are too smart (????) that it makes their life agony to justify it

get real. charlie is a LOSERRRRRR who has no capacity for managing his feelings despite the infinite resources he could utilize to learn how to do so

also i’m cranky as hell today if it isn’t obvious but when you said “it takes a certain type of person to get him yk” i didn’t like your tone! i mean that lightheartedly 🫶🏻 i promise and i would be very interested in hearing why you DO like charlie and what you find sympathetic about his character and what i am apparently lacking in that makes me unable to do so…

before i close this out i just remembered something else that really bothers me about him is the way he has always treated moffy. you can be sympathetic to his feelings about that whole situation and their dynamic but i find it VERY hard to sympathize with his response. he is immature as hell and never once actually tried to talk to moffy or explain his frustrations and he used moffy as a sounding board for his negative feelings about SO MANY aspects of the world it wasn’t fair at all. it’s sort of the same with his behavior towards sulli like we all have family members we don’t like or problems with people but they aren’t supposed to KNOW that…how come everyone else in the world learns this lesson from childhood but charlie gets a free pass to be rude just because he’s charlie?

and again, it’s annoying because i really do think charlie is often quite funny (like when he threw that book at maximoff’s head? and farrow got so mad because moffy hadn’t slept in days? that was objectively TERRIBLE but his determination to be a menace just HAS to make you laugh i’m so sorry maximoff you did not deserve that king 💚)

Soooooo I'm brainstorming New Character intros for JoR, That fit with their Arc, theming, and individual stories

And I mean... I really like Mangrove and Jak's intros as they are, but the others seem a bit rushed and not as in-depth

Fye's works for what it is too, but I think it's because these three feel like they're moving the plot

The Trio need Jak's skills to continue their quest, and it's a PROCESS to find him and convince him, Mangrove throws the plot from an aimless search to a pointed collaboration with an actual idea of where they're going, and Fye snaps the plot from one of the deepest canyons of all of the characters sinking into a despair at the death of their teammate, back into high-stakes action, as there's a new threat, and now they know they're actively being tracked and pursued

I think the things these three have in common is definitely that they pull the group and plot out of a moment of stagnation, and drive the Group in a slightly new direction

Like... As I touched on before, Morena, Finn, & Ronan were stuck without a way to negotiate for information, and Jak pulled them out with his skills

The Group was on the path to just go from boring town to boring town until Mangrove attacked and was pulled out of his hatred with an offer of protection and help

And the Group was on track to lay down and give up until Fye sent them running

I like Finn's Intro, but he needs more time and space to thrive as his own character

Morena's needs to be overhauled entirely

Ronan's can stay as is, he's the MC and I like the beginning

Wild's... eh? He kind of appears through a crowd at a party and then dissapears until he just randomly pops up again, I think I gotta have something better

Phenik's is a concept I like, But I haven't pulled it off well, and I think we need more suspense and tension to really sell the twist

And Rose... Whoof, It makes sense that her joining the group would be easy, but... Easier than Morena & Phenik? No, Sir. I don't think my powerhouse should come so easily.

Morena and Rose's are the two that absolutely need to be changed

Wild's is less in need of a shift but I still dont love it

And Finn & Phenik's are good, they just need a bit more... Sparkle!

Maybe it has something to do with the individual stories?

Jak, Mangrove, And Fye's intros all do a good job of setting up that they need to change, and that there's something very clearly wrong with them

Finn & Phenik's don't, but they do a good job of establishing what kind of people they are (Finn protects Ronan, and Phenik is being a silly innocent little guy)

Morena's, Rose's, and Wild's... don't do that
