#i never WANT to hate a game

Cyberpunk 2077 is awful and I'm tired of people insisting it's not. I miss the bugs, they were fun, they made the game somewhat entertaining. Well, I shouldn't say I miss them. I've tried playing this garbage fire even after the release of Phantom Liberty I still haven't had an experience playing the game without some disruptive bug or glitch occurring. They aren't as all consuming anymore but it seems something at the very core of this digital rotten lasagna is fundamentally broken.

The story is shallow. Characters are introduced and die too fast and often for me to really give a shit. The best example is Jacky. Not only is he the earliest but he's clearly the one the game wants me to be the most upset about but why? Most of the character development between V and Jacky happens via montage and after that he's barely around until his insanely predictable death. He feels like a somehow more underwritten Fast and Furious character.

But who cares. A good game can survive a shallow and unintersting story. Is the gameplay fun? No.

Its trying to desperately to create the same sandbox experience as GTA without nearly the amount of variety that makes GTA fun to playa me explore. The world is empty, 99% of weapons all feel the same, the shallow gimmicks thrown into the weapon pool like tech guns or mantis blades hardly have any impact, there's not much reason to experiment with your load out. And with such a bare world there's not much reason to want to.

And the RPG mechanics... Calling them that feels like an insult to RPGs. They're somehow worthless and overpowered simultaneously. In regular gameplay you'll rarely if ever notice their presence, while in stealth they render the game downright trivial. You turn off people's fucking eyeballs in stealth, just turn them off. If you wanna play easy mode regardless of difficulty, just build into stealth.

The games messaging might just be the worst part. It's so backwards and inconsistent I can't tell if any message was actually intended at all. The game clearly wants you to believe it's making some statement but constantly tries to contradict itself. The game tells you cyberpsychosis can be treated and repeatedly reinforces to you the people experiencing it aren't in control of their own actions, but you still beat them to a pulp anyways. You basically kill them but nicer and without the game telling you their dead so despite the fact you shot bullets at them until they ragdolled don't worry it's different this time, they're FIIIIIIIIIIINE. No opportunity to de-escalate the situation, no trying to talk them through this, no anything one might actually do when trying to help someone experiencing a mental break.

But when fucking ROBOT CARS are going ballistic that's when you talk them down and a have a heart to heart? With fucking Cars? CARS?!

I wanted to like this game. I went into every gameplay session hoping to enjoy this game. I repeatedly open mindedly entered this game and made serious attempts to find something to enjoy about it. But I can't. Everyone endlessly praises this game as a masterpiece, I've seen it in so many "BEST [GAME GENRE] OF ALL TIME" lists, even from sources I actually respect the opinions of otherwise and it makes me feel like I'm taking crazy pills every time I boot up this irredeemably dog shit waste of gigabytes.

How in the hell does this game have such a good reputation when there doesn't seem to be even a single lone redeemable aspect of it. Even things I just don't have the energy to discuss, the boring design of the open world that feels like the most cookie cutter, by the numbers cyberpunk aesthetic I've ever seen, the characters designs that range from boring to characters like Adam Smashers who are such walking garbage piles it'd make a Micheal Bay cybertronian blush, it's just so unbelievably bad....

What an insult to the entire cyberpunk genre, both the game itself and the undeserved praise...

listen there really was just something about how in the book, snow’s 3-page descent from hesitant lover boy to deluded mfer happens entirely in his mind. lucy gray gives him no indication whatsoever that she suspects him, that she’s going to leave or betray him. he’s just sitting quietly in the cabin waiting for her to return when that seed of calculated suspicion, which he has needed to survive the capitol, takes a hold of him and chokes the life out of any goodness left inside him. it really drives home your terror as a reader that “oh my god did he kill her? did she escape? what happened to her? why would he even think that?” in a way that when the movie had to adjust for visualization it lost some of that holy shit this guy has lost it emphasis.

Haven’t been on tumblr in a while and just searched to see if there’s been any actual discussion and reflection in this fandom about how the hunger games and sunrise on the reaping are so clearly reflective of western imperialism and colonialism and the oppression and exploitation of the global south and most especially the genocide of Palestinians. Yet I am once again disgusted to find that this fandom would rather engage in shipping and analyzing literary texts for color symbolism than actually look at the explicitly obvious (and overtly stated meaning) of this book and its context in our lives and societies. This fandom has once more shown that it is unwilling and incapable of truly comprehending and internalizing this series. It’s shown racism, indifference, ignorance, and shallowness.

Idk man but if you’re a fan of the hunger games, you should be able to say free Palestine with your whole fucking chest, and just acknowledge the obvious real world connections in your posts and fandom discussions. That’s just the bare fucking minimum, and 99% of y’all can’t even do that

Its really interesting that Jimmy’s chair is the one tilted away from the screen in this shot:

It’s indicative of how his and Jimmy’s dynamic was. He’s not staring ahead at the screen, he’s not paying attention to what they are doing. Curly is the only one looking forward. Jimmy quite literally couldn’t see the responsibility Curly had or was doing. Jimmy likely slacked off and avoided most of his duties. I mean the one time we know he pilots the Tulpar he steers it wrong and loses the team 4000 credits. Even in the positions they held objectively, Curly was always taking responsibility for Jimmy. Not to mention the “We can fix this” and only one chair at attention. Jimmy never had intentions to fix anything, throughout the game, throughout his entire relationship with Curly. Curly always fixed it? Why would it be any different here?

If he even took the slightest bit of responsibility, he would’ve stayed in the cockpit to see his plan through. In the end Curly did what Jimmy always expected him to do for him and took responsibility. Did what he always did and took responsibility at the wrong time…

how much time do you have? and how much do you want to read? bc i deeply hate everything about totk (for many many reasons that cant just be dismissed as just 'not my taste' or similar, i dont hate many things, very few in fact, but this game deeply and personally hurt me and my passion- it essentially killed my hyperfixation in zelda)-

what i like would be much shorter; i like the sound the parasail makes when you use it in the rain, most music, you can have more horses, the underground is .. a neat idea (but badly executed), you can FINALLY touch the dragons (and in exchange they ruined them for me ...) and uhm ... master koga is there :3

(graphics and style is basically botws so that doesnt count though i still love that and .. the designs... mostly)

the short version; the writing sucks, the gameplay sucks, except for koga theres no character that is well written or enjoyable to me, the world design sucks, theres no connective tissue between botw (which isnt flawless by any means but i love it ..... or used to love it ..) and totk beyond it being called a sequel, pretty much every single one of botws flaws was doubled down on and i cannot believe how few people actually seem to realize this?? if you cared about anything botw and like thinking about things totk will stomp you with its hefty price tag bc it makes it clear it does not care and you are stupid for caring about anything, you should stop thinking and jsut take whatever they say no matter how little sense anything makes, every even mildly interesting idea is either never followed up on/expanded or is even actively contradicted in itself (which is soemthign this game is excellent at, constantly contradicting itself in every aspect but like .. like its unaware of it) it tries to do everything and thus commits to nothing, tries to please everyone and thus comes out saying nothing and meaning nothing and doing nothing, it loooooves to copy botw but gives it a different paintjob and makes it worse but presents it as better instead of actually adressing the issues botw had, ganondorf .... oh my dear ganondorf, you deserve to be in a better game *sniffs*, i have never before felt like im being made fun of by the game im playing, but now i have-

even the short version gets long (and i didnt even go into detail or into the reasoning q-q) but boi i have so many issues with this game its kinda fascinating, i have talked about alot of it but given tumblrs search likely still sucks it might be hard to impossible to find all those older rants njskfsdbjk

(if you dont care about ... text, or stories and just play it after work for mindless fun in short bursts it might not seem bad at all but once you start thinking it quickly and utterly crumbles, you might say i care to much and well, yeah, thats how hyperfixations work and i dont choose what to focus on either lol)

for a long while i used to try and sound the most tame and nice about it all but at some point of constantly being argued with (often aggressively) back when twitter used to be usable i started to not give a fuck anymore so if this may sound harsh, i have long gotten tired of all that so now im trying to literally just speak my mind with very little "what if i sound mean qoq" filter
