Brainstorm's optics focus on the data pad in his servos, a hum resonates from him along with a small chirp as he filters through the multiple different subjects he had been doing research on. His processor aches from the amount of engex he had consumed the cycle before while at swerves.  The seeker haphazardly pays attention as he walks down the hallway of the corridors of the ship toward the lab, his optics flicker when they lock on the one of  liaisons, very specifically the Ambassador that he along with many others from the night before hand had been ‘fantasises’ about. 

 

 He had so many questions he wanted to ask them in person about human biology but in honesty didn't know where to start, they were an organic species, bipedal mammals who in many aspects were very similar to Cybertronians. His optics linger on them, taking in their frame type, tone and all up rather visual appeal. He could understand why humans were so sought after on the black market, they were soft and rather plus from what he could observe. 

" heya stormy" they call out with a smile as they make their way over to him. Brainstorm jolts from his musings, systems heating with embarrassment at being caught distracted by his thoughts, his engine lets out a hitched whine as fans whirl. But their smile seems warm, non-judgmental, and he relaxes fractionally, they didn't have the ability to read his processor, he was fine he rationalised to himself. 

"Ah, greetings, Ambassador!” He attempts to mask the fluster that was creeping across his plating, wings twitching lightly. "Lovely sol to find you up and about, I wasn't expecting to see you down in the labs this Cycle." He pauses with a. Raised optic rid wondering why they were down their way, they normally didn't make it a habit to visit the scientist. 

“ picking up some equipment Nautica got for my team, she's been helping a lot with our long range transmitter and also with us getting supplies on Ultra Magnus' request” they hum while carrying a small crate. 

His field radiates enthusiasm, if they were down here at that moment perhaps they had some time to spare him for his own pursuit in knowledge.  "Might I beg for a moment of your time? As Cybertron's chief scientist, I was hoping to inquire about Human biology if you had the time. our records only have some much information on your people and i believe a lot of it is rather outdated, if you'd feel comfortable sharing it could offer insights aiding our alliance." He asked, it was worth a shot and if they Were to busy he could always ask one of the other humans.  

They give Brainstorm another sweet smile as they begin walking beside him towards his destination, they hike their crate of equipment highter as to keep grip on it. "Sure I'm happy to answer questions, it's not like I have much going on at the moment, last I heard Megatron and Mags have Rodimus doing my paperwork as punishment for trying to take Rikko Asteroid surfing.” they laugh as the words fall from their lips. Remembering the look on the speedster face when he had more reports dropped on him. 

“ but if we are gonna play twenty questions you better make it fun!" They tease in a singy song voice. Brainstorm's optical ridges curiously curiously beneath his faceplate at the human's playful jest. He lets out his own amused chuckle at the idea of Rodimus suffering even more paperwork, he didn't envy the Captain and even less so the aching processor he was most likely nursing after the drinks from the late cycle. 

"Scientific inquiry as a game, eh? Now there's an intriguing proposition!" His wings fluttered, promptly intrigued with the idea. Data collection through entertaining exchange sounded rather fun compared to the normal exchange he had with Perceptor. A mischievous lilt crept into his tone as he slowly matched their pace walking together his optics flicker down to them taking in just how small they were compared to him. They just met his knee plating joints. humansWeren't nearly as small as a lot of Cybertronians were lead to believe. He remembered the first time ever seeing them he was quite taken back over their size originally expecting them to fit into the pal of his servo. But seeing them in real life had made him realise a lot of what he believed or old records were rather incorrect over humans, and their biology. 

 "Very well. First question: what gives you energy - nutrient paste, energon, the taste of victory?" His visor gleamed roguishly the last question was more a tease but he found it amusing to watch their reaction. The liaison lets out a hearty laugh at the first question. " hahahah oh by the stars, you really don't get alot of human Visitors do you?. So most of what humans as a whole eat is a mix of meat, fruit and vegetables. We need a mixed diet due to being an omnivorous species, but it varies person to person" they explain, giving his leg a gentle nudge with their elbow. 

Brainstorm cycled his optics,parsing this new data on their nutritional requirements with keen interest, it also gave him more information to jot down later.but he is utterly fascinating that a species derived sustenance from multiple organic compounds rather than a single standardised fuel source. "Meat, fruits and vegetation, you say? Truly extraordinary." He made a note to research Earth's ecological climate zones and harvest periods, he was rather interested in seeing what earth produced, Earth had become one of the largest suppliers of energon when cybertron was being rebuilt as it was a common occurring element on earth, it became the main trade source between the two planets.

"What about cybertronians? Do you guys only consume Energon or do you have other things, i know earth supplies quite a lot of energon to cybertron but do you guys only consume it ?" As they returned the query, he waved a languid hand. "Energon in its various forms comprises the bulk of a Cybertronian's fuel intake, though rarely do we consume it in its raw state. Refining introduces necessary additive alloys and minerals to suit an individual's frametype and occupation. Medics also develop specialised fuel mixes for patients. But we do consume other elements, oils, metals and crystals are other necessary for different platingsor frame types " His wings fluttered in delight talking about the different compounds of energon and how it was used. He was no chemist but did enjoy dabbling in creating different flavoured energon.

 "Recreational enjoyment of other sustenance is not unheard of, however. Certain sensory-inducing additives have been experimented with at social gatherings, such as High grade, energex are a subcategory of energon which has a different effect on a processor compared to casual energon, med grade and such" he hums while explaining the different types of fuel, from the causal to the luxurious. 

“Ah so similar to Alcohol for humans, that's quite amusing actually and explains why Rodimus tends to look like he's hung over” they chuckles again remembering how dead on his feet he looked that morning when they had met for a meeting with the command.

“Oh I wasn't aware humans also had similar, but yes energex and high grade have a rather intoxicating effect and lossens intakes while in group gatherings.” He replies. As they make their way into the laboratory. Perceptor is off in the distance and shoots them both a look as Brainstorm slowly lifts them up onto the bench. Before continuing their conversation. 

“ you mentioned something about chemists, what do cybertronian chemists do?” The Ambassador asks while they place their crate down and begin engaging in conversation once again. Brainstorm felt Preceptor's optics tracking the pair curiously as he began another explanation. “Chemists tend to have a range of different fields, the easiest way for me to explain would be to say that Swerve is a Chemist” His optics shimmer in delight as they trade back Information with the human sitting on the bench. 

“I thought Swerve was a bartender?” They reply with a tilted head, their brows pinch in an almost adorable expression to Brainstorm. He has to keep his engine from making a whine at the adorable look. His EM field dances with interest for them. 

“Indeed, chemists work with making, distilling energon and other substances. So in one way Swerve is a chemist but so is Ratchet but they make very different products” He explains. 

“That's so cool, almost like being a human chemist, baker and bartender in one” they hum as they take in the new information they were learning. His optics linger on their hands for a moment before he decides to change the subject of fuel sources. 

"With your permission, I find human epidermal structures utterly absorbing," he began. "The intricate pigmentation patterns, tactile sensitivity... might I?" A single digit hovered millimetres above a forearm, awaiting the liaison's consent before even the faintest contact. It takes them a moment to register the terms from Brainstorm but once they realised he was asking to examine their arm. “Oh sure just wait a second” reply before rolling their sleeves up, hold their arm out to Brainstorm to look at. It catches Preceptor's attention as he raises an unamused optic at how brasin Brainstorm was being.

 "Also heads up you don't need to treat me like glass, humans are pretty resilient so you're not gonna hurt me by touching me unless you're actually trying" they inform. "My thanks for the clarification, as I explained earlier, a lot of our records on Humans is rather outdated, however I'd rather not cause you harm" he responded gently, servos dancing over their arm gently as he takes in the man different markings, patterns and colours that mark their skin. It's highly fascinating to him and he found another reason he believed humans were sought after. It wasn't a subject of cybertronian history he liked but he was interested in learning why humans were so sought after. Soft, pliable, small and would have mostly been very docile. It sent a rattle up his spinal struts as he tries to push the thought a side. 

A single digit traced the patterns of tactile receptors watching the way the little bumps spread across their skin in a visual response to his touch. "Fascinating... your epidermal sensory network far surpasses initial database entries. I've never seen such colours either its stunning" His field pulsed appreciative curiosity as he traced the lines and marking that look like they are hidden under the Ambassador's skin, it makes him wonder how far the marking go but decided it would be pushing it to try and see more, but he knows he will be fantasising about tracing the markings. 

From the corner, Perceptor cleared his vocalizer. "Yes, human biological studies hold fascinating merit. Brainstorm, do refrain from unnecessary experimentation." The other bots voice calls out as he shoots Brainstorm, another disapproving look. 

Brainstorm dips his helm respectfully as he pulls away lwtting the Liason pull their sleeve back down. "No disrespect intended, Perceptor. Merely exploratory observation. Scientific progress warrants cross-cultural exchange plus we need to also rework our old records on human functions, biology and culture." His visor brightened, dispite Preceptor's tone Brainstorm was thrilled with the new knowledge he had gathered just from this meeting.

"Oh don't worry Percy. I doubt Stormy brought me here to experiment on, plus he's curious. I can't say I'm not also curious about you guys either, Earth doesnt have alot of information on Cybertronians outside of the small stuff we had from when you guys were stuck on earth. So i'm happy trading information because we are both interested in learning about each other's people. " They shoot back at the other scientist. Preceptor's optic ridges pinched ever so slightly at the human's familiar tone, though he made no further protest. If they felt at ease with Brainstorm's studies, who was he to force caution upon willing participants? "See that your... observations proceed responsibly," he calls out, it's aimed at Brainstorm but the seeker does not fret too much. 

The two continue chatting between each other trading information with small jokes between them every now and then. The liaison kicks their legs back and forth on the table. It gives Brainstorm the opportunity to truly look at them and appreciate how soft they are, a lustful thought crossing his mind and EM field pulsing lightly which makes Perceptor snap his helm to look at them again. Perceptor narrowed his optics warily at Brainstorm. :. Brainstorm a word.: the other scientist states through comms which makes the seeker go ridged, wings flickering in discomfort. 

Clearing his vocalizer loudly, Perceptor took a deliberate step forward. "Perhaps we will catch you another Cycle Ambassador, Brainstorm and I have much work to attend to, and we wouldn't wish to keep you any longer" he interjected coolly. For his part, Brainstorm cycled a ventilation and reined in his field, hed just had Perceptor call him out on it and the embarrassment was showing with each flutter of his wings. 

The Liaison gives the two scientists a wave once they are set back on the ground. "Well I'll catch you both another time, I'm going to go talk with Swerve about energon, you have me rather intrigued to learn more " They call out lifting their crate back up while heading to the door. Once they had left the Lab it had Brainstorm shifted warily under the weight of Preceptor's dissecting gaze. 

"The human liaison has graciously undertaken representing their kind aboard an unknown vessel to foster cooperation between species. Jeopardising such an auspicious start through any misguided impulse would severely damage relations." 

Pausing his tasks, Perceptor affixed Brainstorm with a searching stare, optics bright with both caution and care for his foolish yet brilliant colleague. "I need not remind you of one of your talents, the fragility of organic creatures compared to our frames.”

Brainstorm shuffled awkwardly beneath the Preceptor's scrutinising gaze. His usually nimble processors faltered grasping a suitably cogent response, field radiating discomfort through scrambled modulations. How to explain such rash intrigues ebbing his usually steady rationale? "Ah...you raise entirely fair points, as always, Perceptor," he demurred, fidgeting with a gripper. "To be perfectly forthright - and at the risk of sounding like a sparkling with his first crush - there's simply something innately captivating about these diminutive humans! Their resilience, ingenuity, curiosity..." His plating flustered with static. 

"And I'll admit, it's not just my scholarly interest piqued. Even the most stoic among us seem charmed by our new small friends." He cycled stabilising ventilation. Wings fluttering weakly, Brainstorm inclined his helm. "Brainstorm pleas for the love of whatever deity you believe be it primus or else Do Not Frag the Ambassador!, they are one of our heads, they work closely with our captains and if you mess Slag up it will be your helm" Perceptor groans out as he pinches his nasal ridge.

Brainstorm's plating flared hotly at Preceptor's emphatic directive. "I - of course not, you must think me a complete naïve sparkling!" he sputtered, waving his gripper defensively. "Mere scholarly observation was my intent, nothing untoward, I assure you, yes I'm intrigued by Humanity and the liaison is rather charming I'm interested in the scientific study of humanity, to rewrite the small knowledge we have on them!"  

Venting sulkily, he leaned against the bench servos tapping into the metal. "Though I'll note, my interests seem far from singular. Last night's engex-fueled discussions had a few of us a little too invested in compatibility. All I'm saying is curiosity seems widespread! So while your cautions are well-founded..." His plating flustered again helplessly, wings fluttering as they would when he was interested in something. 

 "Brainstorm we are not doing this" Perceptor states as he turns away from his fellow scientists. "Wait just a klik, Percy - don't think I fail to spot tangled undercurrents in that rigid plating of yours," he pushed, emboldened by this newfound insight. Cycling closer, his field pulsed a teasing nudge against his colleague's. "For all your lofty speeches cautioning restraint... could it be you harbour doubts following your own advice?" He teases only to get a nasty glare from the other mech. but decides it's better to just ignore Brainstorm at that point. “you know Swerve has bets on you, says your a dark horse waiting for a chance to sweet the Ambassador off their Pedes” Brainstorm states trying to get a reaction out of Perceptor. It gets a wrench thrown at him.

I don't think I'm understanding.. I cant turn my FNAF AU designs into full on OCs, (Original Characters) because.. well Freddy Fazbear and the gang are NOT my original characters. I just made my own AU (Alternate Universe) for them and redesigned them.

Well imagine if you were in his shoes. You are transported to some kind of unknown world. And absolutely no one arounds you speaks the same language as you.

Sneep has no way of knowing this is a digital plane. He has no idea if the people around him are real or not, he cant remember his name and no one can explain to him why that is. His body looks different, he feels different, no one around him looks to be a human.. just imagine how scary that is. Not having the comfort of things being explained to you in this situation. Not having the comfort of someone telling you "everything will be okay".

Yeah, I'd lose my mind pretty quick too 💀

XD No worries! And yeah I started playing Warframe for the first time these past few days. Its been fun so far, Mag being my favorite. (She's the only frame I have <XDD)

I have my eyes out for Titania Prime, Trinity Prime, Mag prime and Mirage Prime. I'm thinking Titania might be my new favorite if I can snag one!

This game is fun, but the longer I play it? The more I miss OG Overwatch 😅 I tried playing TF2 again today and it just isn't the same 😔💔

Hello! So far my tablet is still alive. Although I'm looking into getting my laptop checked out and maybe replacing somethings... 😔

And it was fun to draw Bibi again! I should really draw the fam more often <XD

Not sure what resolutions they'd have.. but one of mine is to be cured of this condition. Or at least get to a point where I can actually function normally again. There's a lot of things planned for 2025 and if I don't get better soon? I'm gonna miss out on all of it. 💔

There's 2 reasons for this. 1 being that I have been battling some very limiting health conditions for about 8 months now. So drawing my sona all goopy and sickly is to represent how I've felt through this trial 🥲🥲

The thing that upsets Gummigoo isn't just that his mom isn't real necessarily, its that his memories of her aren't real too. He remembers all these experiences with this person but the memories aren't real...

And the whole reason why Caine let the brothers stay was because he hoped it would help Pomni adjust to the circus. Just like Bella did for Gangle. Bringing up NPCs or things from the Gators adventure could upset or confuse them so Caine wouldn't want to risk it. <:(

Oh I get a lot stolen from those other fandoms too. Octonauts has just been the most frustrating. Constant tracings, theft, copycats, disrespect, its was nuts.

I don't think I'll post Octonauts again anytime soon. I've just had enough of the constant pushing of my boundaries and the boat loads of all kinds of theft.

I was so wrapped up in my sewing project, I didn't get to do ANY pride stuff. Nyoops. I did however open up doodle commissions which has been a BLAST, to be honest! Might just keep them open regardless of teeth. I am almost done with my big project though, which I'm wicked excited about. When I'm done I'm going to play SO much pokemon and no one can stop me. Went glassblowing with my mom. Redownloaded a rhythm game I haven't touched in months. Reading was. Fine. I listen to audiobooks while sewing which is great except I feel like I've gone through all the Good Stuff so now I'm left with all this. Read two more books off my List, though, so gold star for me!

The Warm Hands of Ghosts by Katherine Arden ⭐️⭐️⭐️ - Book club pick! I did not enjoy this as much as the Winternight trilogy, but it was still a good read. Throughout the entire thing I kept thinking hey this is like that one Magnus Archives episode, so when I was done I listened to MAG 7: The Piper and now I wonder if there's real life lore here I don't know.

Blade of Secrets by Tricia Levenseller ⭐/ DNF - (not pictured) No. I thought maybe I would push through this just for gits and shiggles, but I have no desire to sit through eight more hours of our main character Having Never Experienced Attraction Ever In Her Life making googly eyes over some Hot Man. Add on to that, the author promoting this with Parry Hotter terminology, no thanks! Bye!

Dark Rise by CS Pacat ⭐️⭐️ - This has been taunting me. It LOOKS and SOUNDS like something I'd enjoy, but I have no interest in Captive Prince and I kept thinking the author was PC Cast. Should've trusted my instincts. There was an interesting twist at the end, but I was so annoyed by that point I didn't care. Nearly every single thing this book tried to do, In Other Lands did better, and I didn't even particularly like that book! It's not something I'd warn people away from, though. I'm sure someone somewhere will enjoy it. I am not that someone.

The Phoenix Keeper by SA Maclean ⭐️⭐️ - DUMB AS SHIT. Where are the managers? The Supervisors? Literally anyone other than these high school kids masquerading as nearly 30 year-olds?? I get that Ailya being selfish and self centered was part of her Growth™️, but again, In Other Lands did it better. This books only redeeming feature was the birds. Can't believe I'M saying this, but it would've been so much better had it focused on the romance.

Of Jade and Dragons by Amber Chen ⭐️⭐️⭐️ - Fine. Mostly unremarkable to be honest. Nothing to really complain about or praise. There was one (1) metal dragon that showed up briefly in the last 10%. The light steampunk touches were nice.

The Last Hour Between Worlds by Melissa Caruso ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ - TIMES TWO! I READ THIS TWICE! I FINISHED IT AND READ IT AGAIN IMMEDIATELY! I always say I want to do that, and well I actually Did That. Reminded me of Labyrinth. Reminded me of Mask of Mirrors. Reminded me of Master of Djinn. Maybe Gideon the Ninth, but that might be the Moira Quirk of it all. It was a LOT of fun, I love women loving women stabbing women they love.

The Murder Complex by Lindsay Cummings ⭐️ - What if Divergent was bad. "But Divergent was bad!" What if Divergent was worse.

Can't believe I actually read a book twice in one go. Who am I. July brings Doing All The Things I Wanted To Do When I Was Sewing. Finish my blanket squares on the project I'm doing with my mom. Finally ship a package. Play pokemon. Maybe go for a got dang walk if the air isn't soup. Learn to price my work in a way that is fair to me. Book club picked Dune, so I have to find a tolerable way to consume that. I refuse to watch the movie(s). Maybe I'll do some belated pride things. Who knows. Everything is possible.

Just played your recent game and wanted to say it's nice to play something light-hearted once in a while (I read in the older posts that you were nervous(?) posting this game, but you're not obligated to fulfill others' expectations and keep the horror bar or anything). Also really loved Zapper's design; I can tell from the amount of details that you had fun with that one (including the rest of the cast).

Is Maggie's name a pun on "maggot"?

Does Maggie still have Tourette's? I noticed you said she does in your older posts, but in the newer ones, you only mentioned OCD and autism even though she has a verbal tick. Was the idea scrapped? /npa gq

Are Zap & Mag just friends or...? And is it ok to use nicknames for them?

Did they eat vegan food at the diner? I was a bit surprised to see an option to order rolls in front of an eel. :D As well as some other choices.

2: PB is another character of mine, a white rabbit! He's going to be starring in his own game I'm currently working on called Lucky Rabbit Club. The reason he gets mentioned in OGT asks sometimes is because I often draw him, Mary, and Maggie as a trio/friends! There will be more of this to come

4: Yes, Maggie still has tourettes! I'm sorry if I didn't put it somewhere where it should've been included. Her major tics include her buzzing, rubbing her hands together, and shaking her head!

Mag’s Sapphic Book Recs Part 2

Part 1

I read more sapphic books in 2024 so here are more books to check out! Note: these are not necessarily books that came out in 2024, just books I read last year.

ADULT

Can we start off light with some romance? -Bachelorette Number 12 by Jae - A really sweet and fun book, about two medical professionals who don't get along having to go on dates due to a charity bid snafu. The banter was really fun, and as they get to know each other, it turned super sweet. -Lavash at First Sight by Taleen Voskuni - Two women get to know and develop feelings for each other despite their family's rivalry, all set during a food packaging conference. Really sweet and made me very hungry. -Satisfaction Guaranteed by Karelia Stetz-Waters - Two strangers inherit a sex toy shop, which forces them to work together and get to know each other. A good amount of fun sexiness but also great emotions and sweetness! -Loser of the Year by Carrie Byrd - Two teachers clash but then work together on the school play and develop a relationship. The humor in this book is wonderful, as are all the little reveals about the characters and their history as the story goes along. One of the most entertaining reading styles, so much heart and humor. -Looking for a Sign by Susie Dumond - A sweet and spicy story about a woman determined to date someone from each astrological sign. Some of the dates go well, some go disastrously, and all throughout you root for her to find someone who will be her match! -Outdrawn by Deanna Grey - Set at a comic company, two rivals attempt to work together to reboot a cult classic comic. I loved the peek into artist life and how the two clash and get together. While a novel, the book had some really fun art and sketches throughout!

How about romance but make it a little sad? -Here We Go Again by Alison Chochrun - Two childhood friends-turned-rivals who then had a falling out are roped into a cross-country road trip with their dying English teacher. A standout book about love, adventure, and loss. Get your tissues ready. -Forgetting With You by Robin Clairvaux - After an unlikely one-night-stand, two women find themselves still pulled together, and help each other through loss and life issues. Really sweet overall.

I know it's January but I'm still in the mood for some holiday romances! -I'll Be Gone for Christmas by Georgia K. Boone - swapping houses for the holidays is already tricky, but with the complicated dynamics of the lives they leave behind, this one gets deliciously messy at times! -It's a Fabulous Life by Kelly Farmer - an adaptation of the Christmas classic film It's a Beautiful Life, but the angels are drag queens with special powers! That alone caught my attention, but then the characters and lovely town kept me glued to the story. -Season of Love by Helena Greer - Your classic "woman inherits a Christmas tree farm and now she has to decide if she wants to save it from going under" story but with a fun twist: she's Jewish and gay! A really sweet romance.

Got anything way spicier? -The Black Diamond series by Anna Stone - this three-book series follows each sister in the Black family as they get down and sexy but also find love. The connected story through all three volumes was also very interesting with some fun twists along the way. -Triple Sec by TJ Alexander - a bartender is wooed by a polyamorous couple. I love a sexy book but I especially love a sexy book with a lot of warmth and heart to it and this one definitely had that! -One Weekend in Aspen by Jamie Clevenger - an amazingly heartfelt and emotional story about a lesbian weekend sex party in Aspen, and how two women meet and fall in love during it. -Dragon Queens by Kathleen de Plume - this one is a fantasy but has so much spice I wanted to include it here. A princess flees to avoid her marriage and is captured by a bounty hunter, but the two make a deal to pretend to be involved so the princess' betrothed won't want to go through with the marriage.

Romance is fun, but how about something more based in history? -Cantoras by Caro de Robertis - This book is one of my top reads for 2024, it was incredibly emotional, about five queer women who meet during the Uruguayan regime and find refuge and solace in each other and in a quiet beach cottage they decide to claim as their own. -The Ballad of Jacquotte Delahaye by Briony Cameron - queer pirate adventures on the high seas, this book filled that Our Flag Means Death hole in my heart with its sweet found family and daring action. -The Duke's Sister And I by Emma-Claire Sunday - a period drama where the main female character falls for her male suitor's sister. The characters are lovely and the story has a slow, cozy pace.

Can we get into some fantasy now? -The Alamaxa Duology by Hadeer Elsbai - I loved both books in this series. Really interesting society, elemental-based magic system, and two women fighting against misogynistic laws. Loved so many of these characters and found myself surprisingly emotional when something happened to them. -A Sweet Sting of Salt by Rose Sutherland - There's nothing like a selkie story and this one was so sweet and a bit heartbreaking. Loved it dearly. -The Order by TJ O'Shae - A young woman is kidnapped by an assassin rebel, part of a group trying to topple her father's regime. This book is a slow, winding burn. Really well-developed characters with complicated backstories and motivations. -Three Women in Paradise by Victoria Avila - A story inspired by Dante's Inferno, with many references to other classic art. Another favorite read for 2024. Loved this absolutely bizarre story that tore me apart and put me back together again. The writing really pulled me in. -Faebound by Saara El-Arifi - Two elven sisters have to leave the Elf Court and find themselves in an unknown wilderness where they encounter the Fae court. There's magical creatures, special bonds, and falling in love with the wrong people, it's got it all! Excited for the sequel coming out soon. -This Will Be Fun by E. B. Asher - The title says it all, it was fun! A group of adventurers already saved the world and broke apart due to the strain and trauma afterwards, but now have to come back together for one more important mission. -The Phoenix Keeper by S. A. MacLean - I love a story around animals, and this one takes place in a zoo for magical and mythical creatures! The main character and her love interest are rivals but as they came to understand each other, their relationship became very sweet. -Road to Ruin by Hana Lee - this book has three POV characters and I loved every single one of them. There's such a sweet way each one of them is described and how they connect and move throughout this very original world. The ending broke my heart a bit and I hope the sequel will fix it! -A Dark and Drowning Tide by Allison Saft - While on an expedition to find a fabled spring that promises untold power, two academic rivals must team up together to solve their mentor's murder! Can you tell I love people who hate each other teaming up? Cause I dooooo.

Enough magic, anything more sciency? -No Shelter But the Stars by Virginia Black - Two women from opposite sides of an intergalactic conflict become stranded on the same strange alien planet and have to work together to survive. An absolutely gripping journey. -Afterparty by Daryl Gregory - This book was amazing. A drug is making people believe they can see god with dangerous outcomes. A woman has to delve back into her past to find out who's released the drug and for what purpose. Gregory writes with surgical precision.

Now can you scare my socks off? -Please Stop Trying to Leave Me by Alana Saab - okay, not technically a horror book, but one that filled me with a lot of dread and fear just due to its subject matter. The main character deals with a lot of mental and emotional issues, things like that god sends her signs through instagram or that she needs to breakup with her girlfriend to finish writing her manuscript. The book takes a turn I wasn't expecting and I found it very touching by the end. -We Used to Live Here by Marcus Kliewer - A couple just moved into a new home they intend to flip and a family claiming to have lived there before asks if they can come inside to see the house again. Reads like a creepypasta in the best way. This book kept me on my toes. -Someone You Can Build a Nest In by John Wiswell - A shapeshifting monster finds herself falling for a human woman and wanting to implant her with her eggs, but that would kill her. What's a shapeshifting monster to do? This book is surprisingly sweet and romantic despite that description. And it explores themes like who are the real monsters. -The Girl With All the Gifts by Mike Carey - Unlike most of the books on this list, this book doesn't have a sapphic relationship, but the main character is sapphic. A very unique take on the usual zombie apocalypse story

I want to read something with lots of art! -Crowded written by Christopher Sebela, with art by Triona Farrell, Ro Stein, and Ted Brandt - this three-book series is an absolute, fun, action-filled adventure. This world has a hit-man crowdfunding website and a woman has a hit put out on her that gets so many contributions she has the whole country after her! She has to hire a bodyguard and both their lives go to shit from there. -A Thing Called Truth written by Iolanda Zanfardin with art by Elisa Romboli - A workaholic scientist and a woman who fears nothing end up on a road trip where they re-enact scenes from movies. It's a story of self-discovery, and dealing with change and loss. They just had a successful Kickstarter for the second book to end the series!

YOUNG ADULT

Phew, okay I'm ready for some sweet romances again! -The Falling in Love Montage by Ciara Smyth - Two young teens agree to a no-strings-attached summer of dates that imitate a romance movie's usual "falling in love montage." But of course, you can't have the montage without the falling in love part! A very sweet romance. -Hot Dog Girl by Jennifer Dugan - I love stories set in theme parks and this one did not disappoint! A young girl wants to get the boy she likes to fall in love with her and break up with his perfect gf, and save the park from closing down. Much of it doesn't go as she expects. ;) -If You Still Recognize Me by Cynthia So - Two old friends connect after a long time and find themselves feeling as if they had never left. A surprisingly complex story about friendship, lost love, and reconnection. -Wish You Weren't Here by Erin Baldwin - Two girls who can't stand each other also can't avoid each other in their small town and friend groups. Generally, they avoid each other but somehow get put into the same cabin at their sleepaway camp. From there, they get to grow a better understanding of each other!

Alright I'm ready for more of a thriller vibe! -The Girls I've Been by Tess Sharpe - This book was a fun thrill ride all the way through! Three friends dealing with some secrets coming out amongst each other find themselves caught up in a bank robbery. The main character has a complicated history that makes her uniquely equipped to deal with this dangerous situation. I also include the sequel, The Girl In Question in this rec!

Some escapism please, now back to fantasy! -The Invocations by Krystal Sutherland - three girls go after one supernatural killer. This book has such great structure and pacing. I loved how the three girls have very different goals and reasons that all align towards the same objective. Loved the writing and it stuck with me even after finishing. -The Misadventures of an Amateur Naturalist by Ceinwen Langley - one of the most original retellings of Beauty and the Beast! Loved all the changes and the way the author really made this classic story their own -This Ravenous Fate by Hayley Dennings - New take on vampires set in the backdrop of Jazz Age Harlem? Sign me the fuck up. Also, this has problematic past-best friends who are now enemies who now have to work together which is deeeelicious.

Now let's get into some science fiction! -Monstersona by Chloe Spencer - Two girls escape their small town after a vicious large monster attack leaves it all burnt down. I don't want to say too much more because the fun mysteries and surprises this story weaves are better discovered by reading it!

Now can you scare me but just a little bit? -I Will Never Leave You by Kara A. Kennedy - This book deals with a very toxic and controlling relationship, one that continues even after death. It touched on a very real and difficult topic in a great way that only horror could really pull off. I felt so much for the protagonist as she struggled to figure herself out through this relationship. -The Blonde Dies First by Joelle Wellington - This book had a great combination of mystery and thriller along with horror. It deals with evil spirits along with teen horror movie tropes in really interesting and original ways. All the characters were very engaging and their relationships were very complex, especially the sisters' relationship.

Let's get into some stories with lots of pictures again! -Sunhead by Alex Assan - There was such a sweetness to this graphic novel, about a girl feeling like she's pulling away from her friends but then makes a new friend who she feels oddly close to, as more feelings start to develop. -Bunt! Striking Out on Financial Aid by Ngozi Ukazu and Mad Rupert - Really great art style but also such a fun ensemble of characters all dealing with very relatable money problems. The story hooked me and the characters kept me thinking about them long after I had finished!

Recap Notes: MAGP 13 "Futures"

Spoiler Warning: this is a purely selfish exercise in remembering what the hell happened last season (from someone caught up thru MAGP32, 3/6/2025 & all of The Magnus Archives). No promises I'll keep up with it.

Summary: I'm not saying Darrien (first of his name) deserved it. I'm just saying he sounds like the type to drive a cybertruck and I think that speaks for itself.

Sue me. I'm not above enjoying episode 13 is about bad luck. Think I mentioned before, but overall this case functions much the same as MAGP09 just with e-trading instead of dice rolls. It's well done, I just don't have too much to say on it. We do get a nice backstory expansion pack for Sam and Celia (one more padded than the other). And I'm glad Jonny and Alex confirmed in the season 1 Q & A that we can take Celia's word here that she had a few wild years (post finding herself in TMP-verse) and Jack's her son, because I don't I'd have been particularly interested in a cuckoo subplot. He's just her kid and that's that. Sam's a confirmed disappointment to his parents. Also thought I had a candidate for who the law firm might be from a blink and you'll miss it mention in the text, but seem to have lost that. If I find it later, I'll come back and edit it in. Would like more details on just what sort of incident he had that led to him parting ways. And tiny bonus Alice lore in that she became an orphan during her and Sam's time at uni. Explains her protectiveness towards Luke (and her misplaced turning that towards Sam, possibly the reason they broke up? do we have mention of why they broke up?) as well as her financial support of her brother. Probably something she was forced to do via circumstance, and has trouble letting go now that they're both adults. Provides motivation for sticking it out in this job. And for the big boss woman, Lena's worldview is hella fun here when we compare it to Gerry's from MAG 111. LENA (speech-like:) The world is full of opposing forces. Some benevolent, most not. In order for the wheels to keep on turning, all these forces need to be monitored and balanced. That is where we come in. vs.

GERARD No. There aren’t any god-like powers of hope, or love, or indigestion, or whatever. At least not that I’ve seen. Just fear. I don’t know why.

Do I think there are actually benevolent supernatural forces in TMP? Not sure yet. But considering the case we're bookmarking, my money (even if I don't have millions in personal equity to bet) is on: any benefit the OAIR thinks they're gaining from playing with fire is a long-con towards a bigger, more catastrophic crash. The folks who think they can control anything are just too busy congratulating themselves on their cleverness to see it. Excited for the fire.

We're doing a challenge run through the Warframe storyline in a Discord server that Rhys and I are in, so here's some fun updated Mirza + Auva lore. I'll be playing Auva on the secondary account I've made.

Notes:

Mirza and Auva are twins. Mirza is older by only a few minutes.

In the operator timeline, both are alive they are just separated and searching for each other.

In the drifter timelines, each watched the other die on their versions of the Zariman and thus only one is alive per their individual timelines.

They are also well aware of eternalism's implications regarding this and are each terrified of running into each other in their own way.

Mirza and Auva

The Herald and The Barker

OPERATORS

Physically: 

Operator Mirza (AMAB nb; they/them) is a stringbean. They have little to no muscle, are pale as hell, and have deep under-eye bags and an almost permanent happy-drowsy facial expression. They keep their hair short because it’s less of a hassle, and they aren’t telling anyone if the magenta is a dye or not (it is). Operator Auva (trans woman, she/her) is also skinny, but a lot of it is lithe muscle. She has piercing eyes and smiles more rarely. She definitely has resting-bitch-face. She keeps her hair long and doesn’t dye it (often). She loves bright makeup.

Mentally/Emotionally:

Operator Mirza does not sleep. They can’t stand the feeling of it after so long in stasis. They tend to anxiety and panic attacks when they feel themself slipping into unconsciousness and try to stay awake as long as possible with the help, often times, of exceedingly large amounts of caffeine. As a result they are often out of it and/or half-asleep; and they have trouble telling the difference between awake, sleep, transference, etc. They don’t like silence because they tend to drift off without external stimuli, so they listen to music, radio shows, watch serials, podcasts, etc. They turn to jokes and sarcasm to cope with their own trauma, but to those they care about they are eternally loyal and will spring to their defense at a moment’s notice. Operator Auva is tough, strong, and opinionated. She’s dealt with the horrors she’d lived through by becoming a protector, a knight in shining armor for those she cares about. She prefers stealthy work, but is not above shock and awe to destroy her enemies and claim victory. She is brutally loyal to whomever is running the missions she’s on, and absolutely vicious to any that get in her way. She’s got a wicked sense of humor, dark and sarcastic, but also surprisingly absurd in some instances.

Notes:

Mirza obsesses over Defense and Survival missions, particularly those where cryopods and data are being stolen because they were separated from Auva during the Collapse and when they finally awoke from the Long Dream they vowed to find her again.

Likewise, Auva pours over Spy missions hunting for some clue as to Mirza’s whereabouts.

Mirza mains Mag, while Auva mains Loki.

DRIFTERS

Physically: 

Drifter Mirza (AMAB nb; they/them) is not bulky but is not skinny either. Life in Duviri has honed them a bit more into a capable fighter outside of a Warframe, though their muscle is hidden under a bit of roundness that never wore off their frame. They aren’t particularly tall, having grown very little past their teenage growth spurts. Like their operator form, they are pale as hell, and have deep under-eye bags and an almost permanent happy-drowsy facial expression. They keep their hair short because it’s less of a hassle, and they aren’t telling anyone if the magenta is a dye or not (it is) Drifter Auva (trans woman, she/her) is strong and decently muscular. She is, unfortunately, also a bit on the shorter side. She grows her hair out as long as possible, only cutting it when it gets really frizzy and stringy at the ends. Once she gets into 1999, she does dye her hair more often than operator Auva, and loves bright makeup just as much.

Mentally/Emotionally:

Drifter Mirza has nightmares, haunted by the death of their twin right before their eyes, by their own death numerous times at the hands of the soldiers of Dominus Thrax, by the deaths of the Hex while they're stuck unable to help. They barely sleep and when they do, they often awake in a panic unless they have their kubrow, Shenzi, nearby. They do still sleep more than operator Mirza. They tend to be very chill and lazy in demeanor, overall seeming to be a kind of sleepy-friendly with an occasional unexpected bite of sarcasm. The surefire way to make them shake their usual demeanor is to give horrific things a pass (ie: make light of Duviri, Amir’s whole thing with cephalons, Kaya’s obsession with the future being super amazing while giving the atrocities still present kind of a brush aside, and how the other protoframes were out here talking about their trauma to the new arrivals). Mirza is also a lot more awake during Transference, acting almost like a kind of energy vampire and drawing energy from the frames they pilot (the protoframes would probably notice this). As they get more awake, they can become noticeably more tactical and vicious depending on the situation. Drifter Auva has nightmares, but dreams are the only time she can see her lost twin again. She has a healthier relationship with sleep than any variant of Mirza does, but that’s not saying much since she still sleeps like a prey animal when there’s a predator around: curled up and hidden and in shorter bursts at a time, ready to run and fight and hide again when she wakes. But when she’s awake, Auva is a vicious and efficient fighter. If only she’d acted quicker on the Zariman…She has more difficulty using Transference with the protoframes, their more intact minds causing conflict with her usually very powerful command of a frame.

it's not stupid at all ! but like ... i feel like i'll regret it ... I'M ALREADY REGRETTING IT NOW! well sort of. not really. i want to attend but also no ??? ok first, i probably won't eat most of the food there, i have afrid, plus i don't like eating in front of other people.

second, i really want to go to the art museum again. i can't go even if i don't have school because i have to take care of my siblings </3, but i technically have school during the year end party, i just won't attend it ... so i think it's okay. i mighttt lie to my parents about attending it, my mom will probably keep forcing me to go if i tell them.

third, i'm not reallllyyy friends with any of them. if i attend a party, big or small, i'd want to be with my friends. people i actually get along with and know! i don't want to feel left out. and i know that me not attending the party will make me even more left out, but i don't really like my classmates. i don't match their vibes, hobbies, or habits at all. they drink, i don't. they vape, i don't. <- two of the things that make me ick! so being close friends with them isn't a choice anymore. i want to be friends with people who i'm comfortable with!

Let's see, for Asha it would be "How Far I'll Go" and "Ready as I'll Ever Be" for the passion for her family and wanting to fight back. Star would be "What a Wonderful World" and "Out There". the Royal Couple would have "Evil Love" and "They're Only Human" The rest of the character songs are a work in progress!

Oooo, I've been waiting for a question for that! The Wishing Star is a legend amongst the stars, always hearing rumors about one granting wishes for not just humans that wish upon them....but also other stars. So the idea is that Star is the first star nomad to come down to Earth, but he must ask: can he really stay here with Asha? The others do have the potential to do the same, but no one else has had the drive to actually go down there amongst the humans. (Star's cousin wanted to meet the dinosaurs and other animals, but that's about it). The biggest thing that helped him get to Earth is in fact Asha's spirit. However, by the end of the story, the people will have a Wishing Star to call on.

3. The 7 Teens will be introduced one by one, and end up coming together as a group when they need to help Asha save Rosas and the people. Each of them play their role by knowing the inner workings of Rosas, like Flazino. Asha hasn't been in Rosas' in years so she doesn't remember anything about how to navigate there. The biggest helps from the Teens would be Dhalia, Simon and Dario. About 5/7 of them have jobs. Gabo is more of the city's conspiracy theorist that the rulers are evil, but since no one believes him, the rulers don't seem as a threat and brush it off. Dario is a self proclaimed comedian/actor trying to cheer up the wish deprived citizens from looking depressed. Its not much progress, but he tries.

4. They actually found him during their journey to Rosas. They traveled around the world finding other spellbooks and texts from other countries, so upon reaching the Ibreian Peninsula, Amaya found Sabor as a cub he seemed to be alone and his mother was nowhere to found (presumably hunted). Amaya couldn't bare to see him be helpless so she took him in, raised him to be a cunning and hunting feline she knew he could be, but also have a royal presence and strike fear into people without raising a paw. Sabor considers Amaya his mother, but Mags is just extra at most to him.

5. OH COOL! That would be awesome, since I've only seen him be used in one other story. I'm curious how RFTS!Flazino would interact with WG!Flazino, since the latter has a lot on his plate trying not to get caught or killed working for two narcissistic rulers. He's so stressed out...😂 (I'll be showing his design sometime next month!)

(i lost my old save file but only really finished the great crystal, now i'm hunting down espers and got Chaos!)

i'm already a huge huge fan of FFXII and Ivalice as a whole, from its non-european-centric fantasy style to its slipstream weird fantasy esque vibes and feelings. it's not so much fairytale as it is "utmost fantasy historia" in a way. its political story captures and it does the classic ivalice thing wherein its political story eventually gives way to earth shattering conspiracies but the best part about ffxii's conspiracy is that even the subject of the earth shattering conspiracy are also having their own conspiracy. it's wild and it's so fun to play through. i'd put its narrative somewhat on the poetry side (alongside things like elden ring or legend of zelda breath of the wild, focusing on the world, immersion, and the moment-to-moment) rather than the narrative prose side (in the vein of things like baldur's gate 3 or mass effect or whatnot, where the writing goes to the characters and is more overt and drags you along with it), though of course being a JRPG it has to conform a bit into prose gaming (forgive the terms i am a literature person first and foremost)

on the gameplay side as someone who loves character action games and simulation rpgs (tactics grid rpgs) i really started out not liking it. but then when i started treating it essentially like ogre battle or unicorn overlord, a somewhat slight autobattler with constant menu pausing to issue different commands, viewing it a bit more like a strategy game, everything really clicked. figuring out everyone's builds with self-imposed challenges (such as having every job in the game be used) is so so so fun as someone who is a sucker for buildcrafting (it's why Final Fantasy Tactics and Elden Ring are the few games I replay!). nothing is more satisfying than seeing a really good build and team comp soar through a grueling boss battle, where you still have to micromanage, casting Dispels and upkeeping Buffs and switching Gambits (and even weapons!) on the fly.

one of the things that FFXII really turned me around on is the whole "you have to both unlock this spell/technick/weapon/armor and acquire it out in the world to equip/use it!" at first i hated it: i already spent time grinding LP to unlock the license, why did I have to still find it in the world?

then i kind of just figured, whatever, i'll explore and just try to find everything if i can. and it worked. exploration in this system was fiercely rewarded: things like Bravery (ATK UP), Faith (MAG UP), and Protectga (AoE Protect) could only be found in chests in the nooks and crannies of the Necrohol of Nabudis. now i have a care for these places i'm traveling around. oh, the nabreus deadlands are called that because nethicite was used here and now it's fantasy fallout new vegas? shit dude that's all you had to say. sorry i wasn't paying attention at first. i wasn't aware of your game. now hand me Silencega and let me get Chaos as a summon

now i can't just rush through the story or whatnot (well, you can! but it's no fun if you do that but it's totally doable and not too difficult which is honestly very accessible). i have to go around the areas i travel around, and exploration is fun because with the gambits system i don't have to keep fiddling with these menus, i can just let my smartly built team do the work. its as if the game rewards you for taking the time to build up and setup your characters! this is a game that rewards team composition and party management, something i feel is sorely missing from modern ffs (ffxv and ffxvi)

to top it all of it's kinda diegetic and immersive. of course these spells and technicks you don't just get. the jobs in this world (also diegetically) only get you to unlock the License to use these things, which are proven by adventuring (and thus, gaining license points). they don't automatically get you that thing. now you have the license, you can use Scathe sure, the most powerful black magick spell in the game, but you have to get into subquest blocked areas of a deep mine to even find it in the first place, and its blocked behind Gilgamesh! so now you're looking for these things and you're interacting with Ivalice and Ivalice feels so alive and lived in because it compromises so little for the player

it's not all perfect of course. so many of the higher spells and technicks and weapons straight up need guides to get, while others are at the whim of RNG. fuck that, but i can't help but completely respect it. it's such an ivalice matsuno choice to do. so many things in this game need guides to do, to the point that while i'm doing it i'm hearkened back to my first elden ring playthrough or my first demon's souls playthrough were i'm partway dependent on those that have come before me to be satisfied with my game. and i don't think that's a bad thing, i think that's something video games are uniquely able to do as a medium.

also i can't help but wish the UI was just a tad bit better, but FFXII was of course made during the menu jrpg era and the PS2 was no doubt already struggling handling so many things that FFXII was bursting with the seams with (something it has in common with its distinguished grandfather vagrant story)

and finally, so many of the things i like about FFXII only really came about in the Zodiac Age (specifically the Switch Version): being able to respec Jobs, finding rare items in the world instead of just buying them from the baknamy merchant in the necrohol of nabudis lmao... but despite all this these are minor detractions to the overall peak experience

though to be fair to the OG it was on a whole a different, perhaps easier game. and i kind of liked the fact that everyone had the same license board. it had that non-self interpenetration buddhist vibe, but also meant that you can go with almost whatever gear and spell setup for whatever team you end up with

what a good game,,, characters are so great too. i love vaan and penelo because they really are both an audience stand-in as well as a masses representation in a cast of knights, princesses, sky pirates and forest shamans

Genshin - Kaedehara Kazuha. I saw his trailer on YouTube and it actually got me back into the game, after a couple months of not playing it. Honestly I don't know why I like him sm, but his design is great, I love his personality, and his playstyle/kit is so damn good. He's my only limited 5 star I've gone for constellations on (as a f2p player) and I have him c2. Also got his signature weapon on his last banner.

TMA - I just answered this for the icon of a man, Joshua Gellespie. I would not have been that calm if I had a coffin crying in my living room.
