📘+ monster hunting au
Dick, together with the rest of batfamily, is a hunter. They help people of Gotham every day, hunting down the monsters and making sure they won't be able to hurt anyone else. Usually they patrol on their own/in groups of two and one night when Dick is alone he finds himself facing too many opponents at once.
I'm not sure what kind of monster those would be but either way every monster in Gotham knows of Batman and his birds and they're more than happy to put their hands on Dick. They want to show everyone that little Nightwing is just a little human and that compared to them he's nothing. So they beat him up, bite him, claw him - just having fun hurting him and breaking bones in his weak human body.
Then after some time - for Dick it would be long hours, in reality maybe it would be just a few minutes - one familiar face joins them.
"Slade-" Dick would choke out, knowing that it was stupid to hope because Slade was one of those monsters but still hoping.
Slade would crouch before him, cup Dick's bloody cheek in his palm. He'd look Dick in the eye for a moment, maybe wipe the blood off his skin with his thumb.
And then he'd turn around and bring hell on those bastards that dared to touch his little bird. Because Slade is the only one that can hurt Dick, that can make him bleed and anyone else who did it has to pay.
So!! It would be a hurt/comfort fic, with sladick being in their typical enemies with benefits relationship, maybe with some feelings on their way 😌
Thank you for the ask, anon!! 💕
You can find the ask game here

SNIDOS: (sniper n GLaDOS)
hell yeah.
ADMINPAULING:
i used to like it a lot, but timelining implies ms pauling's been working for helen since her mid teens at the latest so i no longer like it. 4chan leaks my beloathed pleaseee don't make them kiss i think it would kill me in a bad way
URINE SAMPLE: (medic n sniper)
there's a lot of werewolf and vampire stuff for these two on ao3 which is pretty fun. and i'm way more likely to find sniper angst under the medicsniper tag than sb and bs which is always a plus.
FRENCH TOAST: (spyro)
have you seen that one animation where pyro gives birth to spy's child and gordon freeman is there at one point. yeahhhh. the ship's pretty cute tho spy would be sooo soft for pyro they'd light his cigarettes for him.

I've been seeing in influx of people saying this shit again, so… rant time!
Jacob wasn't attracted to the egg inside of Bella and, subsequently shouldn't have also been attracted to Edward's glittery swimmers.
Reasoning?
How about because Smeyer herself has denied that claim, first and foremost.
But let's say she didn't:
The imprinting happens between the shifter and a person… An egg isn't a person. A sperm isn't a person. A zygote isn't a person. An embryo isn't a person. And, finally, a fetus isn't a person. Only the fully developed baby is a person. Therefore, nothing happening in Bella's womb or ovaries (and certainly not in Edward's ballsack) has anything to with Jacob liking Bella.
Jacob was in love with Bella way before he even shifted, too.
Take it up with biology.
Next order of buisness:
JACOB NEVER WANTED TO BE TIED TO THE DEMON CHILD!!
His direct line of thinking was, "I'm gonna kill that freaky thing because it killed the woman I love -> oh shit, my entire being is being stripped away, and my own feelings and thoughts are being rewritten against my own wishes -> God damn it, now i can't even force myself to hold onto my hatred for this thing because I just became its emotional (and physical) slave." He lost his free will in that moment, unable to control his own thoughts and feelings. Here's an excerpt:
"The murderer stared past Rosalie's shoulder at me, its gaze more focused than any newborn creature's gaze should be.
Warm brown eyes, the color of milk chocolate the exact same color that Bella's had been.
My shaking jerked to a stop; heat flooded through me, stronger than before, but it was a new kind of heat-not a burning.
It was a glowing.
Everything inside me came undone as I stared at the tiny porcelain face of the half-vampire, half-human baby. All the lines that held me to my life were sliced apart in swift cuts, like clipping the strings to a bunch of balloons. Everything that made me who I was - my love for the dead girl upstairs, my love for my father, my loyalty to my new pack, the love for my other brothers, my hatred for my enemies, my home, my name, my self - disconnected from me in that second -snip, snip, snip- and floated up into space." -Breaking Dawn, Chapter 18, page 306-307.
'Everything that made me who I was disconnected from me in that second and floated up into space.'
That is not something Jacob ever wanted. In fact, throughout the series, he doesn't hide that he hates the idea of imprinting... he lost his free will when he was forced to join the pack when he shifted (bc out of all the places in the world, the Cullens had to set up shop right where they knew their presence would cause a problem), so what makes you guys think that him hating his autonomy being compromised would suddenly go away when he was made to imprint on the thing that killed his childhood friend and love?
Even the official guide talks about how imprinting is completely out of the wolves' control.
"If the werewolf does imprint, he is forever changed. From the second he sees the object of his imprinting, he will do anything to please and protect her. All other commitments in his life become secondary, even his commitment to the pack." -The Twilight Saga The Official Illustrated Guide, page 310.
Also from the guide: "Once a werewolf transforms, his aging speeds up until he reaches the age of maturity, roughly twenty-five. At this point, as long as he continues to phase, he remains at that age. It's possible that a werewolf could choose to live this way forever and enjoy the same limited immortality as a vampire, but most Quileute werewolves give up phasing in order to grow old and die alongside their family and friends. Once a werewolf gives up phasing altogether, he slowly begins to age again until his aging reaches the normal human speed." -page 308
The wolves never age so long as they keep shifting... Renanameme is already clingy and possessive of Jacob. She's never going to let him stop phasing because she's going to want him around forever. So now, not only is he stuck with the creature that killed (yes, 'killed,' because vampires are dead) his love, but he is stuck living amongst the very creatures he was created to fight and kill. Forced to inhale their sickly sweet "almost rotten" scent for eternity as his baser instincts scream at him to eliminate them the way he was born to.
One last thing: Jacob never asked Edward if he should call him "Dad". That was a change they made for the movie. Originally, there was never a line even *close* to that in the books...
Okay... I could keep going, but I'm not sure anyone even read this far, so: rant over...
I'm just so sick of the Jacob slander coming from people who have either never fucking read the books or read them so long ago that they don't remember the integral parts of the thoughts and feelings of these characters.
Jacob is the victim here, not the perpetrator.

2023 Year End Stats
Not to be stereotypical or anything, but for me at least, 2023 was an odd year. I bled for 6 months straight, dealt with the worst pain I still can't comprehend, had a hysterectomy, moved in with my partner, got some cats, dealt with a lot of stress, watched the world burn. Yeah, it's been pretty good to outweigh the bad.
But anyways! I've done the math and put together a list of my stories that performed the best this year. At least in terms of notes anyways. I'm also going to share my stories that didn't perform as well and hope they get the love they deserve.
Anyways, let's get on with the count down. Forty total stories have published on Tumblr this year. Sixty-six were published on Patreon. Top monsters were orcs (7), Vampire (3), Fae, Minotaur, Romm Monster, Lich (all 2).
Top Ten Stories:
10. Kahann the Naga
This one would probably be in my top ten favorites to write of the year. This dark, twisted romance between a lonely, isolated girl shipwrecked on an island with the dangerous and sexy Kahann struck the dark romance itch I've been wanting to scratch.
9. Keir the Orc
Comfy farm romance that features annoyances to lvoers. What else could you want? Orcs are always fun to write, I feel I could do it with my eyes closed, but thankfully I don't wanna do that.
8. Atharo the Lich
The pink lich, this one had imagery in it I couldn't get out of my head. the visions of this pink lich still huant me and I wish I could conjur such sstrong imagery still.
7. Asier the Drider
A simple premise we cann understand. Getting packages and ordering online is probably yhe msot fun we can have without leaving our homes. But what if your neighbor was annoyed by this? And what if that neighbor was a drider?
6. Auberon the Room Monster
The enchanted library. i think I've written more about the romance and mystery of bookstores an libraries more than anything. But this story was special, with lots of worldbuilding wrapped like a blanket around these characters. The room this monster stays in is the library, and who doesn't wanna spend time with that guy?
5. Marek the Vampire
This murky, dark, and swampy tale is one of those that stays with me. The idea of a different sort of vampire, one in the bogs and wetlands of a strange peninsula that gets flooded every year haunts me. The image of him is one of my absolute favorite creations and I hope I get to visit this peninsula village again.
4. Placide the Paralangua
This story marks the beginning and growth of my Charcourt universe. Liek Hearthway Hollow it's a town filled to the brim with straneg creatures, only it's the Paralangua, alligator type monsters who throw a festival every year to celebrate their history and the continued growth of Charcourt. Is it a cult? Maybe. There's a new five part tale of this area up on Patreon now.
3. Ben the Werewolf
Enmies to lovers, I think most people get on board with this trope. This tale of Hearthway Hollow delves into the relationship between two high school enemies who reconnect after years and manage to put aside their competitivness to find one another. The lead in thisstory is also Rowan's little sister.
2. Leraye the Demon
Demons are always fun. My demon characters have ways of weaving themselves in and out of the world we know, sometimes as proper members of society, often not. Leraye is one of those that visits our world as a full time member, seeing out the comforts of a Chinese bakery whose owners are a family with ties into the reality he avoids.
Florenz the Vampire Bat
This would for sure also be on my favorites of the year. This dark story wove together elements of fantasy, horror, and romance that I love to death. The lead is sophisticated and dashing, the lead is adventurous and excitable. The chemistry between the leads while writing this tale was so good.
The Ten Least Appreciated Stories
10. Juniper the Tiefling
I am deeply disappointed this didn't do as well as I expected. This story was based on characters me and my bff made for a one shot DND session. So this story was more personal to me than others. but more than that, I feel it had some of my best banter!
9. Rocco the Guard
Another personal tale based on ideas me and my friend came up with during a visit where we watched the Owl House together. I also greatly enjoyed the leading lady who was smart, spunky, and chaotic in the absolute best ways.
8. Ozzie the Werewolf & Tryfon the Naiad
It has a trans lead, it has polyamory, it was set in hearthway Hollow! I thought this story was serving up gold on a platter. But maybe people weren't in the mood for gold. The comedy in this is top notch, at least I thought.
7. Laertes the Fae
Another story where the dialogue I feel sparkles and pops with every interaction the characters had. This did only recently come out, so maybe it'll grow after this.
6. Ransom the Shapeshifter
Another personal story based around lore me and my bff created for our Stardew Valley characters. It also featured a nonbinary lead and monster, I thought people would be excited for this. I loved playing with the avant-garde sci-fi aspect and being a little weird. But maybe that's why people didn't like it too much lol
5. The Leshy
Another story that would be in my top ten for my personal favorites to write. I loved the complexity of the leading lady and crafting her has made her a personal favorite. The characters and world of this story will be one that stays with my thoughts as I think about the cozy, dark streets anfdthe moss covered steps of the buildings.
4. Jaqueline the Dullahan
This story has it all! Chocolate, Halloween, a sexy dullahan chef, and it's a lesbian romance. Maybe I don't have enough wlw readers but this story came from a ko-fi prompt I wrot and just grew into a full fledged story. I really enjoyed the atmosphere of this story and how it felt like a cozy fireplace with hot cocoa.
3. Beast the Symbiote
Beast is a character I have been wanting to get out into the world for years. She's such a complex villain character, and who doesn't love that. I feel like she is one of my coolest characters. Lucky Devil was also a character I had been dying to get out, she's been in my head since I watched Magi Madoka and she took form slowly over the years. She is in part based on me, and I want to do more with this lovely couple.
2. Fia the Selkie
I'm starting to see a pattern here. Male reader stories aren't ya'lls cup of tea? Too bad, I have some amazing male readers and commissioners I adore working for. Fia was this comforting warm blanket of a story. A struggling musician and the lovely Selkie he's come to be with. I really love this story, please check it out if you want some comfort.
1.Ria the Orc: an AU
I'm actually a wee bit pissed about this one. Another male reader, and Ria is a character I've come to absolutely love. This was written for a commissioner I've come to consider a friend, and writing for him has become an amazing experience. Ria and her beau have also become such real, loving characters in my head. This was an AU of the modern monsters Ria where she is in Obresh and participates in the Reaping. Who doesn't love Reaping stories? C'mon folks, give these ten stories the love they deserve!
Thank you all for an amazing year! Next year I will hopefully publish and you're going to see bigger and grander things from me, I owe that to all of you. Keep a look out for my Ozren novel hitting the shelf soon. Thank you so much and I hope I continue to write stories you love.

Carnelian Blood Thoughts
I have spent the past day or so just binge reading Carnelian Blood, the spin-off series to Diabolik Lovers (my guilty pleasure) and one of the many series of Rejet.
Honestly I had a lot of fun lol. I feel like the mystery of Carnelian plan's, the missing 6th Erosion member and the origin of both the guys and our main girl I feel like helps make the content feel meatier and not just rely on romantic moments with the boys (or them just goofing off). And the fact that the cds get plot moments at all is pretty interesting! I also like how it is kinda more evident that they all have different relationships with their dad (from Byakuya's freak outs at the near mention of him, Toxin's more gung-ho attempt at fulfilling Carnelian's orders, Creha and Yoru being more doubtful and Neight/Ura being the ones who are actually in touch with him).
I think the only kinda frustrating thing is that Erosion are chimeras, demon world races with something imbued in them (the tl said they had demon parts but I'm not actually sure what it meant by that?). You'd think that this means that we would be able to see more of the behaviors of the adler, vibora and werewolf races that sets them apart from DLs vampires right (even with a bit of other stuff mixed in)? Well no bc they also drink blood (but of not-humans this time...which feels like splitting hairs) bc of their chimera condition and have so far demonstrated only supernatural abilities related to their chimera condition....so Toxin & Yoru don't do werewolf stuff, Creha doesn't do anything related to vibora and Neight/Ura & Byakuya don't seem much like adler...it's disappointing that they feel like just...weaker vampires atm but I'm willing to give them time to cook.
(Also outside of Neight/Ura and I think Toxin, the boys haven't actually made the largest use of their chimeric traits. But again I'm willing to wait and see).
Now here's my thoughts on each individual member, from youngest to oldest.
Creha: Ngl I thought either him or Neight/Ura would have ended up being my favorite but instead it was someone else (Yoru). I think his video game obsession and how he uses that to kinda avoid difficult things, or it also demonstrating how he gets tunnel vision when he's focusing was really neat. I only kinda think that it would be nice if Creha demonstrated a specific preference for certain video games rather than the writing making it sound like he loves every single video game genre equally (he does seem to have a preference for challenging games...but that's also pretty vague. Not that he can't be a video game nerd, but nerds also have specific stuff they like). Also I thought that the two little scars he had under his mask felt but a little goofy, like I've seen similar characters who avoid showing their mouths for similar reasons but bc of the genre Creha can't actually look non-traditionally attractive so they just kinda look like really light scars.
Byakuya: Ngl he's probably my least favorite if only bc it is really hard to decipher what's he's saying at any given moment. I find the way how he gets affected by his "blood cravings" the worst out of all of his brothers, and the fear he has for Carnelian interesting but there isn't a lot of bite on otherwise? Even his obsession with disinfectant feels like it's missing context so until we get more info on him I can't really say much.
Toxin: What if "Sold to 1Direction" went terribly wrong? Or right if you're into that thing. Despite him not being my favorite, I want to spin him around and study him like a bug. I guess off all the boys I consider him to be the most unsettling, simply bc I do think pop stars similar to him like...exist lol. The way he craves perfection and flies off the handle into destructive rage is both unnerving and I feel like creates a nice mesh between his "princely" persona (also contrasting with his twin brother, who is spicy on the outside but mostly sweet on the inside, while Toxin is the reverse). My only question is that how did take the moment of him basically dragging the mc on stage and assaulting her for like...his fans to become aware? Not that they wouldn't defend him (ppl like that exist), but that there aren't even rumors that his guy has anger issues lol. I also find it interesting how he's the main guy pushing Carnelians' goal forward while Yoru is on the more hesitant side. I do wish we saw these two play off of each other more tho bc I feel like there could be some good content in showing how they became so different. So I will be watching him closely as more content comes out.
Yoru: Best boy! Baby! He cooks, he (begrudging) plays piano, he seems to be the mostly sane member of the group and swears like a sailor! What more could you ask for? I find it funny how, despite him being the "bad boy" of the group, he's actually the kindest to the point where he's the only one who doesn't kill/torture you in his bad ending cd (partially bc the mc kills him but ssssshhhh). Even tho he still sucks our blood and namecalls the mc, he feels almost out of place bc of how less violent he is compared to the rest of the DL universe. He also seems to be the only one curious as to why Carnelian wants the MC, and his distrust of Carnelian, and the fact that he might have been taught by Elias I feel like gives him a lot of plot threads for juicy drama if they like...ever give Carnelian Blood a game (pleasepleasepleaseplease-)
Neight/Ura: I think he's (they're?) like my second favorite. Honestly I really buy into the theory that Ura might be the sixth boy on that island, and the way he described having to see his own dead body makes me sympathize with him. I'm honestly fairly happy that Neight gets to be the "leader" of the group, even if he doesn't get to that show that (or his smarts) often. Honestly the dynamic between Neight and Ura left me with a lot of questions. For starts, does like...their school know that he has a split personality? Ura never seems interested in like, even remotely pretending to be Neight, and Neight falls asleep often (honestly the CDs struggle to balance these two. Even in their solo cd it did not feel like these two got to have as much back and forth as I would have liked, and the group cds did "Neight falls asleep fairly early in and then we spend the rest of the cd with Ura" way too often that it never feels like we spend enough time with Neight) in random places yet it doesn't even cause that much of an issue? Like maybe seeing Neight have to struggle to clean up Ura's messes and Ura feeling limited by Neight's responsibilities I feel like could have added to their attempts to kill one another. Also Ura at one point says that he doesn't want to perform, nor help the rest of Erosion but that also like...doesn't go anywhere? Like I just feel like they could do more with two being forced to coexist.
I'd like to ramble about Carnelian and his plans as well as comparing him to Karlheinz but I think I'm gonna wait for a bit more of his plan to come to light. I do wanna say that I wish his daughters lived if only bc it would be nice to have more non-evil/dead female side characters.
Anyway those are my thoughts and everyone is feel to add to them or ask questions! I really hope they get a game bc I feel like they really have a content that'll benefit from the change in medium. I heard that there are more cds coming out too so I'm excited for that!
#carnelian blood#erosion#erosion xxx#diabolik lovers#I wanna write Yoru meeting Yui for no one but myself

Buffy season 3 thoughts, edited for clarity but presented in the order that I wrote them:
The hell dimension twist in the first episode is great. Again, love that the writers usually do some extra little something: whatever the problem looks like in the front half of the show, it probably won't be that neat by the back half.
Mr. Trick is a great character but I keep hearing "Angel, Angel," and "Spike, Spike," but no "Mr. Trick, Mr. Trick," so I am concerned that he is going to die this season. Edit — : ,,, (
The Mayor is also incredible. I thought he was going to be a secret demon or something and instead he's just Some Guy. Just incredible.
wtf I ship Giles/Joyce now. Edit — !!!!
Lurconis: least problematic demon so far. I mean, he eats babies, not people.
Are all watchers British? Did the Watchers do an imperialism? Are the Watchers why the British did an imperialism?
I love the Mayor.
<3 Spike's romantic reminiscence about him and his gf…killing a homeless man.
The Slayer is really not doing a great job if all these vampires from season 2 were able to survive for – how long has it been? five months? six months? – however long it was between 2x22 and 3x08.
Why does a ""pagan"" magic shop have bottles of holy water? I mean, sure, the Wiccans have "holy water," but this holy water came in bottles with little crosses on them!
the funeral fakeout is incredible <3 <3 <3
how exactly does Spike drive his car in the daytime?
It is really incredibly easy to drive a stake through a vampire's heart. It's as if they don't even have ribs. Must be the lack of calcium in their diet.
I think it's odd that Giles didn't tell Anya that Cordelia had, you know, died because of the wish she made. Destroying the "power center" shouldn't have worked, because it explicitly undoes every wish that Anya granted, which means the world should still be different, just a different kind of different (if they'd wanted to reboot the series a bit, that would have been a valid way to do so, come to think of it, but anyway).
incredibly shocked that cordelia died in the AU episode: I can't think of another show with a similar plot where the canon immigrant dies rather than plays a vital role in setting right what went wrong.
Amy makes an adorable rat. Somebody should have been an animal for a few episodes. I hear that Oz leaves the show later – just say he got caught in full wolf form and let the role of Oz be played by a husky. EDIT — I am delighted that she remains a rat through this season. So silly.
I don't want to sound like a broken record so I'm going to try to keep shut about this, but just know that every time Wicca comes up, I die a little.
The Zeppo was incredible. No notes. I've seen some people hate on this episode, even complain about not being able to see Buffy's entire adventure, and all of the haters are wrong.
I need more of the Mayor and Faith. Where's the Fix Fic where the Mayor contributes to Faith's mental health by being a rock of unconditional support and, wouldn't you know it, faith? Why do we not at least get to see them play mini golf together? I love them.
Xander should have come out as gay.
The bad werewolf costume was understandable, but then the hellhounds!? Why do the Buffy costumers think that canines look like people? Just put some dogs in costumes, or call them something other than hellhounds.
It's funny (and deeply sad) how Faith's relationship with the Mayor was plausibly the healthiest relationship that she's had up. Buffy and others made genuine attempts to connect with her but a healthy relationship takes two to tango and Faith's inability to be vulnerable in Buffy's social circle was a problem.
"We're proud to say that the class of '99 has the lowest mortality rate of any graduating class in Sunnydale history" lmao lmao forever
There is a criminal shortage of Faith & The Mayor fics.
Boggles my mind that some people think that the Mayor didn't care about Faith.
You finished the Big 3! For a lot of people this is their favorite season - it is the peak of "classic Buffy" as one might say, with the high school settings, plot concepts, and also Angel still being around as opposed to in spin-off Los Angeles. It is a much more polished version of what Season 1 or 2 is trying to do, and engages in a lot more "worldbuilding" - radical for 90's TV.
The hell dimension twist in the first episode is great. Again, love that the writers usually do some extra little something: whatever the problem looks like in the front half of the show, it probably won't be that neat by the back half.
Agreed; this is funny because it is, partially, absolutely a product of it being serial TV and them just kind of winging it, and having to "stack" twists. But nowadays watching all the "plotted" tv shows that sort of streeeeeetch their clearly-4-episodes-of-story over 8, it is nice how Buffy doesn't do that as much! It does crazy melodrama shit instead! Pick your poison I guess but in Buffy it works.
Mr. Trick is a great character but I keep hearing "Angel, Angel," and "Spike, Spike," but no "Mr. Trick, Mr. Trick," so I am concerned that he is going to die this season. Edit — : ,,, (
Look man this is your fault - you thought a black character could survive in 90's California Suburbia TV Land long enough to get recurring character billing and SAG pay? Fuck no, gotta wait till season 7 for that privilege. But yeah Mr Trick is really fun - vampire blaxpoitation mafia master is a genre we always need more of.
The Mayor is also incredible. I thought he was going to be a secret demon or something and instead he's just Some Guy. Just incredible.
i mean he is also a secret demon. that was a pretty significant thing that happened. like i understand where you’re coming from here but they very much did make him a secret demon.
But no, meme'ing aside the Mayor is amazing - he is one of the few villains who can compete with "villain protagonists" like Angel or Spike. He is total camp but also deep enough to carry his relationship with Faith, very good dual roles. Also so fun whenever him and Principal Synder are just being little gits together <3
wtf I ship Giles/Joyce now. Edit — !!!!
( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) ain't no one stopping these hotties

Are all watchers British? Did the Watchers do an imperialism? Are the Watchers why the British did an imperialism?
The Watchers absolutely did an imperialism, they are a global organization of patriarchy child soldier users, ain't no way they didn't get their hands dirty. But I will grant that, in all likelihood, they are British because "magic" probably got its biggest start in the UK - Merlin, the druidic-wiccan stuff, etc, and they seem to be very politically ignorant of the wider "muggle" world. So I think they were just free-riders on that process, not instigators.
<3 Spike's romantic reminiscence about him and his gf…killing a homeless man.
I was gonna say, the Xander/Willow affair dud is almost worth it because it culminates in the episode where Spike rolls back into town to fix his love life, which is incredible - nothing a little domestic violence can't cure, thanks Buffy!! You can just see how much fun Spike & Drusilla have with their roles.
Why does a ""pagan"" magic shop have bottles of holy water? I mean, sure, the Wiccans have "holy water," but this holy water came in bottles with little crosses on them!
This ties back into the weird "Christian magic gap" - in a world where Christianity is clearly, in some way, "correct", the church seems to be extremely impotent in comparison to some old British librarians. The Wiccans, your mortal enemy, are pretty much running the show.
But I will give that Season 2 (see Jenny Calendar's shop visits) established that a lot of the "pagan" shops are essentially fronts for actual magic stores catering to the spellcaster and demonic communities, and in that part of their business they don't discriminate on denomination. They will stock holy water and omamori out of the same bin.
how exactly does Spike drive his car in the daytime?
Oh, he covers up the glass with heavy padding so light doesn't go in, you can see it in the episode!
Do you mean how does he avoid not smashing into two dozen cars and killing a few pedestrians every block while driving? Oh, that is easy - he doesn't!
It is really incredibly easy to drive a stake through a vampire's heart. It's as if they don't even have ribs. Must be the lack of calcium in their diet.
This is one of those things that was clearly meant to be a "Slayer Power" thing - people even joked that Slayers had the ability to empower anything they held into a magic stake, how she can kill with like a ruler - but then as the show went on you see like fucking Willow do it. So yeah, just no bones on the chest I guess.
I ofc did not watch the episode as recently as you, but I thought Giles didn't retain his memories after the timeline reversion, right? So he couldn't warn anyone. And yes, that comment about all the wishes is honestly just sloppy writing, and this whole amulet deal will be explicitly contradicted in later episodes re: vengeance demons. Still, you can be very charitable and read it as "active" wishes - if you wished someone dead 30 years ago, that isn't a magical alternate reality, they are just dead now, so you can say it's locked in. Most people don't wish for parallel universes, after all.
Amy makes an adorable rat. Somebody should have been an animal for a few episodes. I hear that Oz leaves the show later – just say he got caught in full wolf form and let the role of Oz be played by a husky. EDIT — I am delighted that she remains a rat through this season. So silly.
You are gonna be SO HAPPY about how long she is a rat lmao
The Zeppo was incredible. No notes. I've seen some people hate on this episode, even complain about not being able to see Buffy's entire adventure, and all of the haters are wrong.
Hating The Zeppo because you can't see the whole Buffy adventure is like hating Rosencrantz & Guildenstern because it isn't Hamlet, you can't do that! Go to another play! The Zeppo is exactly why the show needs someone like Xander, because how Hellmouth Sunnydale totally fucks with the regulars is a great source of hijinks only Xander can lean into.
Also hot Faith moments. Not the hottest one with Xander though, that comes later in the season <3
I need more of the Mayor and Faith. Where's the Fix Fic where the Mayor contributes to Faith's mental health by being a rock of unconditional support and, wouldn't you know it, faith? Why do we not at least get to see them play mini golf together? I love them.
<3 <3 <3 It is like "Daddy issues - but good! Well, not good. Really, really bad. But nice!" I do think that the finale is a bit of a misstep because by making the mayor a gigantic worm thing he can't really have "human" moments anymore, and Faith/Mayor could have used more screentime (I know, she is out of the picture then, but they wrote it that way).
And yeah to pick up on other Faith comments, I just enjoy how committed to the "bit" she is about being evil which very obviously is not her whole self, and cannot be her whole self. She needed someone who "got" that, and Buffy was just way too much of a moral bright light to look at directly for her. There is a very good arc in Angel actually with Faith around this dynamic, if you ever wanna dip into that side of things.
Xander should have come out as gay.
I know the context for this but it's better without. Let them fuck in the shower room!! Don't be afraid, man.
"We're proud to say that the class of '99 has the lowest mortality rate of any graduating class in Sunnydale history" lmao lmao forever
This was a Very Topical Joke at the time!!!
Boggles my mind that some people think that the Mayor didn't care about Faith.
Yeah that seems like a weak take to me. I do get it, like he is evil and it is all 100% a manipulative front, you can argue that. But his whole character is that he isn't that. He is authentically a folksy mayor, he cares about that stuff, he just cares about being an immortal demon more. As Demon Lord I totally bet he would still have a civic affairs board to plan proper parades of his Torture Legions down Main St, the guy is Lawful Evil for real. In the same way, he totally saw Faith as an adopted daughter for his parody family dynamic. He wasn't gonna compromise his vision for it, but he didn't have to. Win-win.
#As always I read them all I just don't always have anything “fun” to say and gotta choose#buffy buffy buffy

Crossroads Deal | Dean Winchester
Pairing: Dean Winchester x Hunter Fem!Reader
Request: No. From my Wattpad account.
Synopsis: Dean reminisces about the woman he loved and lost.
Warnings: Death, demons, crossroads deal, burning a body. Pure angst. I love angst. Italics are flashbacks. E/C - eye colour.
Word Count: 2,850
Main Masterlist
As Dean looks at the body lying a few feet away from him covered in a hotel bedsheet that is stained in her blood, he thinks back to the day he met Y/N, the person who changed everything for him.
"Who are you?" Y/N growls at the two intruders while pointing her gun at them with the safety off and her finger ready to press the trigger if necessary.
The taller one responds, hands up in surrender and a hint of fear in his eyes, "Bobby called us and told us that you need some help."
"That doesn't answer my question!" She growls once more, this time visibly more agitated than before. "Who are you?"
"I'm Sam. This is my brother Dean. " The tall one speaks again, introducing them, while the shorter one remains silent.
"Winchester?" She asks, lowering her gun slightly and scanning each of the men while keeping her eyes narrowed and her guard up. The best hunters were always on high alert and didn't trust anyone unless they had proven to be trustworthy. It was a risky move if you weren't cautious of everyone you came across.
"Yeah," Dean says, dropping his arms as she appears to relax a little.
"Bobby sent you?" she asks making sure,
Both of the men nod their heads.
"Would you please lower that completely? I don't feel like being shot by some girl today," Dean sneers, annoyed.
Lowering her gun, she puts the safety back on and places it back on the table, glaring at him. She resumes what she had been doing before she was rudely interrupted by them while showing and explaining to them all the evidence and theories she's already come up with..
Dean looked and listened to her attentively. As she recounted everything and displayed all the evidence she had gathered, he observed her rigidity in posture, her icy tone of voice, and lack of eye contact. Although he understood that she didn't know them and that he never expected her to welcome them with open arms, this seemed different. Her being standoffish seemed to go a bit farther than workplace professionalism.
It didn't help that this case seems to be a particularly difficult one, with a werewolf and a vampire collaborating to create some kind of hybrid. Being the seasoned hunters that they are, Y/N and the Winchesters believed they had seen everything before this case. Vampires and werewolves were known enemies in every lore book ever written. It didn't make sense to them that they would suddenly start working together.
Of course, there was a lot of arguing between her and the oldest Winchester, someone being used as bait, and their scheme going sideways, which was nothing new for the Winchester brothers. The three hunters barely made it out alive after suffering various injuries.
Y/N was grateful for the help Bobby and the Winchester's provided no matter how hurt she got, knowing that if she continued to pursue the case alone, she'd be in hell much sooner than intended. Crossroads would be overjoyed by that.
After they returned to the hotel room, Dean, who had the least injuries, bandaged himself before assisting Sam and Y/N. He was wrapping Y/N's lower arm when he notices she has a distant look in her eyes.
"What are you thinking about?" He asks her, making sure the bandage wasn't too tight or loose.
"Just contemplating the fact that there are already enough monsters in the world and that we don't need any more. However, here we are, with monsters creating new monsters," She exhales. "How crazy is that?"
Dean finishes applying the bandage and remarks, "If this job has taught me anything, it's that there's far more out there than we realize."
"And that something will always surprise us even if we know to always prepare for the unexpected," she adds .
"Exactly," he says, agreeing with her. "Are you sure you're going to be okay on your own?"
"I gotten this far, haven't I?" She smiles at his sincere concern for her. Her ice-cold attitude toward them has somewhat thawed over the course of the five days they've worked together. She was able to say that she trusted the brothers to have her back, and she's proven to them that they could rely on her to have their backs as well.
"I now have your phone numbers, so if I need to, I'll contact you after I call Bobby."
He rolls his eyes, "So pleased to hear that I'm second on your list of people to call."
With a tiny smile lingering on her lips, she says, "Actually you're third."
He puts his hand over his heart while seeming to stare at her pretending to be offended. "You hurt me. Really, you'd call Sam before me?"
"He argues less," She chuckles.
"You wait till you're always around him," he says as he cleans up the leftover medical supplies. "But honestly, you'll call us if you need us, right?"
Y/N nods in agreement knowing that it's what he wants to hear. "It would be best if you never saw me again. I don't want you to become attached to me."
Dean first believed she was joking, but he was mistaken since exactly that is what happened. He became attached to her, falling in love with her hard and fast. Within a month of their initial encounter, they ran into one other twice more before agreeing to stick together. But it wasn't just Dean who got attached to the former solo hunter. Like his older brother, Sam had also fallen in love with her, but in a very different way. Y/N was the sister the younger Winchester never had. They bickered like siblings, got along like siblings, mocked one another, and stood up for one another exactly like brother and sister. When they discovered her big secret, both brothers struggled with it. Dean, of course, took it the hardest.
While working on the demon case they're currently working on, Bobby unintentionally revealed that her time was running out far too quickly for his liking.
In disbelief, Sam exited the room with Bobby, leaving Dean and Y/N to talk. Although Y/N's revelation had upset him, he was aware that Dean was hurting more. Sam had witnessed first hand how quickly Dean and Y/N had fallen in love with each other.
"Were you ever going to tell us?" Dean asks, leaning against the kitchen wall as she sits at Bobby's kitchen table. He's upset and angry. "Were you ever going to tell me?"
She nods despite knowing that nothing she says would help her. "Of course I was. I didn't know how."
To her, Sam was like a younger brother. Being an only child raised by a single mother, she never had siblings. She enjoys how it feels to have a younger brother.
But Dean is different. So, so, so very different. They constantly draw each other in. Neither of them felt the same way about anybody else. And despite her best efforts to stay away from him, she constantly found herself near him, whether they were sharing a drink at a bar, comforting each other after a nightmare, preparing for the next hunt, or helping him with Baby.
"'I made a deal with a demon and I have less than a year to live' would be a pretty good start," he glares at her, the anger and despair visible in his voice and green eyes. "What did you think will happen? That you'll be gone in 6 months and we'll… I'll forget about you? That's not going to happen!"
She repeats what she said when they first met, "I told you not to get attached."
"It's too late for that," he confesses. "I'm attached, Sweetheart."
It's silent for a few minutes as they both try to gather their thoughts while suppressing their tears and emotions.
"I'm going to get you out of this." Dean says as he breaks the heavy silence that had fallen over them. "We'll figure it out. It's what we do. If not, we'll figure out a way to pull you back out."
He walks up to the books that are scattered on the table and looks through them as though he's looking for information. But all he says is blurred lines and fuzzy pictures, his eyes unable to focus as the flood with tears.
Dean," she calls out in an effort to grab his attention as she stands up and approaches him. "Hey," she says as she removes the book he's clutching from his grasp and lays it back on the table. "There is no coming back from this, Dean. I am beyond redemption. The contract is unbreakable. They will not let me go, not for anyone."
"You're not even willing to try?" He asks, feeling defeated, though he is not about to give up as quickly as she is.
"All I want to do is make the most of the time I have left. Hunters do not have a lengthy life span. It's rare, and you know it," She informs him, a slight frown on her face.
"I'm not going to let you die," he says firmly, the defeat he was feeling replaced by determination.
"You have to," she replies regretfully. The day she met Dean Winchester was the day she knew she made a mistake making that deal.
Before anything further is spoken, he exits the room saying, "No, I don't."
After that, a lot of things changed between them. It had become tense, Dean and Y/N were distancing themselves from each other, they were both more short-tempered than usual and snapped at each other as if they were a couple going through a bad divorce . Before she met Dean, Y/N had accepted her fate, but the brothers and Bobby wouldn't listen to her, and they did everything in their power to free her from the terms of her crossroads deal. Dean went as far as summoning the demon at a crossroads.
"What the hell do you think you're doing?" Behind Dean, who is glaring at the demon in front of him, Y/N's angry voice can be heard.
Dean shouts back, "Unlike you, I'm trying to save your ass."
"Dean, listen to her; nothing can be done. Your little girlfriend will spend all of eternity in hell," The crossroads demon says taunting the hunter as she grins at him triumphantly.
"That's crap!," he yells, his gaze fixed on the demon as the crunch of gravel under Y/N's footsteps gets louder as she approaches them.
The demon quips, "Really, it's ironic. You finally meet the woman you would give it all up for and she-"
"Stop talking!" He growls at her, stopping whatever tirade she was about to deliver.
"You two could have had a beautiful future together. Marriage, normal jobs, a beautiful home with mini Winchesters roaming around the backyard oblivious to this life that you once lived," the demon continues to taunt the couple. "If only you had met her before she made the deal."
"Would you shut up?" Y/N yells at the demon this time. She turns to face Dean with a guilty look on her face as opposed to his eyes, which were full with rage and determination. "We have to leave."
"We're not leaving until she destroy's your contract," he frowns at her.
"Even if I really wanted to, I can't do it." The devil says, drawing both of their gazes to her. "Lucifer's orders."
"You can't save everyone, Dean, and that includes me." Y/N says, forcing him to look at her again.
"Why are you giving up so easily?"
"Believe me, I'm not. Bobby and I have both tried, as have you and Sam. I'm not getting out of this." She says as tears begin to form in her eyes.
"She's right," The demon agrees. "Just tell her you love her, and make the last four months of her life unforgettable. She'll need something to cling to while she's down there."
Before storming back to the impala, Dean glares first at Y/N, then at the demon, and then back at Y/N.
Y/N goes to chase after him, only to be stopped as the demon begins speaking again. "In your contract, I can make one adjustment. I used to be human, and I was in a situation extremely similar to yours right now. When the hounds come for you, once you're gone since there's no stopping them, I'll allow your soul five minutes to say your final goodbyes before personally dragging you back to hell myself."
Dean is scowling as she looks in his direction. He can hear everything that is being said.
"Why the sudden bleeding heart?" She inquires returning her attention to the demon.
"Like I said, I was once human," With that, the crossroads demon vanishes.
Y/N approaches Dean and, without wasting any time, pulls him into a kiss, reminding him of her love for him.
They didn't go back to Bobby's house that night, where Sam and Bobby were waiting for them. Instead, they traveled to a secluded meadow where she often went to spend some time alone when she was a teenager. They spent the night together in the impala talking, kissing, making love and eventually falling asleep.
After that evening, everything changed once again. The couple became inseparable once again. No one mentioned her crossroads deal and went about life as they normally did. Things seemed better, though their situation continued to weigh heavily on their minds and hearts. Dean promised to make the following four months the best of her life. And he did.
They got married while working on a case in Las Vegas, and during their downtime, he took her to the places she always wanted to see and always found ways to show and remind her how much he loves and appreciates her. He also never disclosed to her his ongoing efforts to find a way to save her.
He is brought back to reality as he feels fingers entwine with his own. She appears as a ghostly figure as he looks up from his shoes, her torso covered in blood, her complexion a ghastly shade of grey, and her usually vibrant eyes now a dull E/C. Her ghostly form still wears her wedding ring and the necklace he got her on her last birthday. He is tormented with guilt knowing he could have done more for her.
"It's going to be okay," she says, causing him to shake his head and avoid looking at her.
She lets go of his hand and cups his face. Standing on her tiptoes, she draws him into a kiss that spoke more than any words could in this moment. It spoke of the love they shared. An unexpected love. A love driven by passion, irreplaceable memories, and hope for the future. A once in a lifetime kind of love.
The kiss doesn't last long before Y/N breaks it, keeping their faces close and savoring their final moments together.
"It's time," she says softly. "You know what to do."
He wants to refuse, unable to let her go just yet. He couldn't drag her out of hell, and there was no angel who was willing to do it for him. Both demons and angels claim that this is her fate and that it was supposed to be this way.
Her cool lips make contact with his warm skin as she kisses his cheek, sending a chill through him. But that shiver paled in comparison to the chill he experienced as she began to fade away as he pulled the matchbook from his pocket and lit it.
"I love you," he whispers.
"I love you too," he hears her say before tossing the matchbook onto the body of the woman who abruptly and unexpectedly stole his heart.
As the body bursts into flames, he collapses to his knees in exhaustion and grief, his eyes never leaving her body as memories flash through her mind.
Y/N in the front passenger seat of the impala singing Bon Jovi's Livin' on a Prayer at the top of her voice while he drives them back to Bobby's after a case.
Her smearing ice cream all over his face when he started a food fight with her in Bobby's kitchen.
Them showering together after a hunt that had them covered in blood, mud and god knows what else.
Laying together naked in bed, her asleep curled against him as he watches her, soaking her all in and making sure he doesn't forget a single detail about her.
Them stargazing.
Her playful bantering with Sam.
Her getting excited about going to a beach.
Her smile.
Her eyes.
Her laugh.
Her tears.
Her voice.
Her heart.
After what feels like hours, he stands up when he hears footsteps behind him. He doesn't have to look to know it's Sam and Bobby as the two men stand on either side of him, none of them speaking a word as they grieved for the woman that had touched their lives in different ways.

Hi! I have a question.
I've been reading up on your post about psychological horror, and I'm wondering if a writer could use something considered supernatural (like a vampire or werewolf or demon) in the stalker horror subgenre of psychological horror?
I'm sorry if that doesn't make sense, words are awkward atm lol
Hi, that's alright. My words get clunky and awkward too!
Genres do tend to overlap, so that could happen. Currently working on another request, and these excerpts about genre could answer your question:
Although every literary genre has its own trends and defining characteristics, the divisions between these categories aren't always clear.
If you want to become a writer, there are a number of reasons to learn about genres, according to Paul Witcover, associate dean of the online Master of Fine Arts (MFA) in Creative Writing program at Southern New Hampshire University (SNHU).
“I feel it’s important for writers to have an understanding of genre because it will impact how their books are marketed, as well as how they are perceived by publishers,” he said. “But I also think writers can be too concerned with genre.”
Although he encourages writers to learn about the subject, Witcover noted a tendency for overly rigid ideas about the distinctions between genres. “Concepts of genre are more fluid than writers may believe,” he said. It's important to keep that fluidity in mind.
Genre is determined by need and audience expectation. Its set functions are determined by its social need.
Broadly speaking, the fiction world is divided into 2 segments: literary fiction and genre fiction.
Some genre writers straddle a line between genre-focused commercial fiction and the traditions of literary fiction.
Traditionally, there are 4 broader categories of genre: Fiction, Nonfiction, Poetry, and Drama. Although most writing falls into at least one of these 4 categories, the edges are a bit blurred, and there can be overlap.
You can read this post for more information on the different genres. The sources for the above excerpts are included there as well. Hope this helps with your writing!

LITERALLY that "dad I'm gay and stronger than you" post had me like ..! my friend and I have been screaming for A Week Straight about the concept of Actual Child Monarch boykingofhell!Sam manifesting his powers early on and just. he and Dean figuring this is probably just another one of those Things We Don't Tell Dad. like, Sam who always knows where the radar traps will be on the interstate, and Sam jedi-whammying the motel clerk into forgetting their overdue payments... John flipping his absolute shit when he finds out; Sam being like "you can't stop me" and John being like "... You're /twelve/, yes, I can" and Sam being like "uh. you're just a guy, dad. I have all of hell at my disposal. do your worst, I guess???" John figuring that if he can't exorcize the hell outta Sam, he can at least make sure Sam can't get out of hell; telling Dean that he really tried but that the demonic forces killed Sam before John could save him; smash cut to early-20s Dean in his first year of solo hunting encountering a crossroads case, where the vics freak out anytime they're alone with him because "can't [he] see that massive fucking hellhound trailing after [him]?!" and the crossroads demon who can't believe who they're looking at when he finally gets them cornered. crossroads demon who smokes out under exorcism, but not before telling Dean "your brother wants to see you"
...anon...holy shit anon...
you are so correct!!
i think that in this situation (growing up with (to his knowledge) a dead sam, and a dad that "let" him die) dean would be more than passively suicidal. he doesn't care about himself, he failed. sam is dead. dean gets reckless, but he just barely avoids dying more than once, just a hairsbreadth.
he drinks until he can't walk straight, gets in the car, and wakes up in the motel parking lot. he goes half-cocked into a werewolf hunt, and he's sure that there's a werewolf behind him about to take him out (and isn't going to stop it, not really), but when he finally gets his finger around the trigger and turns around, the werewolf's ten feet away looking blank and confused. he puts a nominal effort into stitching up a bullet hole, doesn't even bother digging the slug out, and passes out in a random motel. next morning, the bullet's on the nightstand, and the stitches are even and tight. it's not enough to be completely concerned--hell, dean's borderline black-out drunk at any given moment, can't remember the last time he was completely sober--but it's...weird.
animals suddenly hate his fucking guts. dean used to tease sammy about it, about the fact that animals seemed to love dean and hate sammy. they would cringe away from sam's touch, skitter out from under his feet. birds would land on the impala if dean was driving, deer would poke their heads out of the woods if he walked past. but now...dean can't remember the last time he even saw a dog.
they just...flee. even at witnesses' houses, dean sees food bowls and chew toys and hears nails clacking on wood upstairs, but they tuck tail and run as soon as he knocks on the door.
after that first case, that first crossroads case where they name the thing, a Hell Hound...dean thinks it's bullshit. he's heard of black dogs, but this is new. it's weird.
he names it hooch. he and sam had seen that movie at a drive-in one summer, and he figures he's kind of fighting crime, right? he jokingly orders an extra patty on his burger and leaves it out for his imaginary dog, and the next morning it's gone. on the next hunt, the vampire doesn't even come within fifteen feet of dean before something rips its leg off at the knee.
when he calls the demon, it keeps looking down at dean's feet warily, back and forth, like something is pacing between them, something low. the demon keeps giving vague non-answers, distracted, and dean slaps his thigh, calls, 'hooch. down, boy.' and the demon...stops.
then those words...your brother wants to see you your brother wants to see you yourbrotherwantstoseeyou YourBrotherWantsToSeeYou.
dean is apoplectic. he finds the colt, finds the gate, heads into hell without a second thought, muttering to hooch the whole way (you better fucking rip some demons up you lazy son of a bitch).
sam's eyes are yellow, all the way through. bright yellow. he's huge. grown. beautiful. it's everything dean never thought he'd get to see. he dreamed about sam being this old, about sam having hands that dwarf a machete handle, of shoulders that blot out the stars.
sam doesn't react at first, knows that dad sent dean on a solo hunt before it all went down, but doesn't know how much dean knew about it, about dad locking him down here. dean doesn't even question why he's on a throne, why demons flank him on either side, heads bowed, why no demons even tried to stop dean from getting here, why they flinched away from him like something would swoop out of the dark and steal them if they brushed his shoulders.
"sammy," dean says--begs, really--for the first time in years, sam's smile falters. his eyes are hazel again, and his bottom lip trembles, and dean begs, "come with me, come home. please."
maybe it works, and they leave, and dean pulls sam into a hug so vicious that they both cry. maybe sam works from afar, and they relearn each other. their first hunt is ripping john winchester's head from his shoulders and trading kisses in his blood.
or maybe it doesn't. maybe dean stays, because they won't be separated like this, not again. the world's got other hunters, and dean has sam, and the rest of it can go fuck itself.
and sam has the life he's always wanted: power. respect. love. dean. (those last two are the same, really). and a dog, that keeps stealing dean's shoes.
anyway anon...much to think about...i love this...and you, coincidentally, mwah.
you and your friend galaxy-brained this one i fear.

If I really think about it, watching all those Mary Sue oc videos as a kid really ruined my ocs at the time for me. Like listening to these grown adults with cool art and a big channel trashing ocs that were probably just made by kids my age and ranting about how stupid and awful and overpowered they were made me hate my own ocs so much. I felt embarrassed that I even made them, and I was like... 11? 12?
Looking back it's a pretty common part of the process if you make ocs from young to have overpowered ocs. That's just how little kids are. "Yeah, you might be superman, but I've got a magic kryptonite sword!" "Oh yeah? Well my oc can break the time barrier with their speed!" "(That second one was brought to you by smol Quinn copying the flash)
They're just having fun and want to come out on top. Losing isn't very fun. And they just want their characters to be like all the other cool characters they've seen!
Even today too many people act like ocs made for fun should be like a fucking masterpiece that is perfectly written and not "weird" in any way. Like people try to act like times have changed and callkng things cringe is dead, but even under oc positivity posts you get people that are like "Well yeah BUT (random complaint)"
There's something so hateful and mean about taking the time to make long posts or videos (which you have to set and edit!) to trash some ocs you don't like for the crime of... being made for fun and not being realistic enough for you. Like these people put the creators of the ocs' accounts and their art in their video and just bash them.
The comments were just filled with people like "thanks this helped me realise how terrible my ocs were" "people who make characters all love their ocs are narcisstic/some other ableist nonsense" "imagine being so immature you want your oc to be the best and most powerful of all time" etc etc
"Cringey ocs" are listed as a sign a of a toxic fandom. It's so fucking ridiculous. Imagine hating ocs so much you consider it be on the same level as shit like bullying and death threats.
It made me feel so stupid and uncreative. Like I was a bad, dumb person who couldn't even make OCs the correct way. I was utterly ashamed of some of my ocs and either completely changed them or scapped them wntirely.
Even now, I worry about making my ocs "too powerful" even though I know that I'm free to do what I want, and if someone has a problem, they can screw off. I've also come to realise through listening to bool reviews ans critiques that the difference between a "cringy oc" and a "character written by an established author" can sometimes literally just be that the author is published and you're not.
Make your ocs as powerful as you want. Make the entire cast of characters fall head over heels for your ocs. Make them the most important people ever. Make them a magic goth part demon part vampire part werewolf. Make them a rainbow magic princess or a gothic dark magic queen.
Just have fun.

Done with Thud!
Tbh in the previous books I wasn't a huge fan of "Vimes is Nobility now" but in this one I don't mind it so much
I wish Sally had been given more of a character. She has so much potential, bit I feel like she's just reduced to being a (female) Vampire who is Angua's Rival
On that note, I also think the whole Angua vs Sally/Werewolf vs Vampire arc could've been tied up a little better. It's obvious that it was a parallel of the Troll vs Dwarf plot line, but it just didn't feel as resolved at the end
The whole intense chase lead up to Sam getting back to Little Sam, and then "The world went soft and pink" made my heart melt into a pile of goo. Sam Vimes for Dad of the Year every year into infinity
Same vein, the scene where the dwarves broke into the house- I was honestly terrified. If anything happend to Littlw Sam I would have torn those dwarves to pieces myself. Masterful suspense building, A+
Very much liked Brick being adopted by Detritus
Also, just Detritus' character in general was really good. He felt maybe a little bit smarter/more articulate in other books, but I'm willing to forgive that given the plot. Especially the scene where he chews Vimes out for always giving the dwarves a pass but not the trolls was very well done
On the topic of characters: I really liked A.E. Pessimal as a character, and I was a bit disappointed when he disappeared halfway through. Who watches the watchers indeed.
Not sure how I feel about the Summoning Dark. I think it was an interesting concept, but the interlude scenes from the demon's perspective cheapened it a bit. I think it would have been more effective if it was left up to the reader whether it wad real or not
Loved the scenes with Captain Carrot, especially when he's struggling to straddle that bridge between dwarf and human. He's always been my fave character and I loved having him straddle that cultural bridge
We love Vimes adapting to modern technology (actually using the Goosebury for something useful)
Lady Sybil I would die for U. She deserves so much better than just being Vimes' Wife
I wish we got a bit more out of Mr. Shine. He's such an interesting character, both on his own and in conjunction with other worldbuilding. Like, how does someone like Chrysophase respond to a politically powerful figure like Mr. Shine? Do their ideals come into conflict at all? Etc.
Also, I think that the side plot with Nobby and Sgt Colon investigating the stolen painting got dropped a bit. Like it came back in the end, but it felt a bit out of nowhere.
Overall I'd give it a solid 8/10. I think it leaves some things to be desired, and there was a lot of plot juggling (which I've come to accept is just part of Pratchett's style) but on the whole it was a lot of fun, and gave quite a bit of depth to some of my favorite Discworld characters and the world itself.

I really need a story set in an alternate universe where all the characters are different "monsters," like Gi-hun as a selkie, which is a being that can change between a human and a seal solely because his eyes remind me of a seal's. Selkies in most lore change with a seal skin, and if this skin is taken, they are compelled to either be with or love whoever took it. Horrifying lore, but it makes for an interesting setup. I definitely imagine In-ho as a vampire who falls in love with this pathetic selkie man with literal seal eyes.
I would like it to still be set in the actual Squid Game universe because I think the different powers and weaknesses of various monsters would make the games more interesting. Like, imagine Gi-hun still strategizing with Sang-woo (who I imagine is a werewolf) and company being all excited, like,"Ohhh, I can turn into a seal if you need me to!" And Sang-woo just,"No, hyung, we don't need you to turn into a seal." I would love to hear your thoughts and maybe what monsters the other characters would be or how a relationship between In-ho and Gi-hun would be.
this is really interesting idea!!! it has so much potential!! 🫶🫶
loooove gihun being a selkie and the lore around them matches gihun's miserable life honestly
inho for sure is a vampire!! very cold, very calculating, and he def steals gihun's skin so that he is forced to love inho.
sangwoo as a werewolf is a rlly good idea since he is usually calm but when he loses his mind, he absolutely transforms.
vampires and werewolves are usually mortal enemies, so this would work well for inho and sangwoo have a rivalry between.
i'm be honest, i'm gonna need some help to figure out which monsters fit other characters 🤧
maybe saebyeok as a gorgon, since she has a very intimidating stare.
ilnam is so sort of demon for sure, and i wanted jiyeong to be a monster associated with vengeance and anger but i cant seem to find one i rlly like for her.

#I'm already writing the ghost hunting fic
Ok thank god bc I was about to ask you more about this AU 😂
The ghost fic is actually a different fic (it's more like Ghost Adventures, Ghost Files, etc.)!! But I'm feeling silly so I'll talk more about this au anyway 🫶
• Johnny was born into a family of vampire hunters. Not every family/group of hunters has a focus on one specific monster, but Johnny’s does. It's a personal vendetta.
• Bouncing off of the last one I think that Nitara would be a huge blow to everything that Johnny knew growing up about vampires. She's not nice per se, but she isn't the mindless and violent being that he had been taught to kill.
• Kenshi wasn't born into hunting like Johnny, but he was always aware of it. A group of rogue hunters protected his family hundreds of years ago and their descendants continue to do so, but in exchange ask for money, weapons, housing, etc.
• The Lin Kuei boys in this one are also hunters, and I like to think that Tomas was picked up after a monster killed his family. He was taken in after it was killed. The Lin Kuei are still the Lin Kuei, but they also hunt monsters
• Johnny and Kenshi met, surprisingly, not on a hunt. By chance, they ended up in the same antique store in the middle of nowhere. They bonded over some old items, and Johnny happened to mention Sento, an ancient sword said to be able to slay any monster. Immediately Kenshi is interested because that's his family sword and "What the hell does this guy know about it?"
• Continuing from the last one, they teamed up to fight some werewolf that had made its presence known. Either Johnny or Kenshi get injured (unused to hunting with a partner) and suddenly Johnny suggests that they start working together more often. Kenshi says no, but then Johnny says that he'd help him track down Sento. Kenshi agrees.
• Johnny still goes by Cage in this AU, but it's less of a stage name and more for protection than anything. His mother was a badass vampire hunter and people knew her name, so it was all around easier to come up with a new one.
• Kenshi is the most efficient at killing monsters, but will use the same weapon until it breaks if Johnny lets him. For this reason, Johnny has a whole arsenal to split between them.
• Johnny is in charge of handling witnesses and gathering info/researching when he isn't fighting. Kenshi is in charge of finding places to sleep and contacting other hunters.
• Mileena in this AU is a monster, but she was cursed to be one rather than born. She travels with Tanya, Baraka, and Syzoth. Ashrah comes and goes, but she hunts demons and has her own personal mission.
• Sindel has a coven that she's the Supreme Witch of, and Kitana stays with her to learn magic.
• After a hunt, there's always a debrief. It's like an unspoken rule between all hunters. No matter who you're with, or what your relationship is, you take care of your own. Johnny is the one to push for this the most when they're all together, and is typically the first one up and gathering medical supplies.
• Kung Lao and Raiden are married, and have been training to be hunters since they were young. They focus on spirit extermination and demons, but Kung Lao has an affinity for shapeshifters. He likes the challenge. Raiden still has his amulet, and it was given to him by Liu Kang.
• Liu Kang is the same in this universe. He's just also kind of the network control center and hunters come to him for advice or guidance. He only hunts if the threat is big enough, but he's more than happy to help.

Still on vague 'Ossy/Ossy hybrid Kev' things...
Way back when nix and I tossed around this idea of a version of Ossy that in extreme situations like starvation went full feral werewolf mode. Just thinking, that would explain how extreme the police response was in Kev's premiere if they were laying a trap for a kid they thought had committed a few grizzly cannibalistic murders...
Also included seasonal molts which, just fun to have and work with...
And of course if I'm splitting up Ossys I have to take into account other fuckers... Am thinking Kevin might be the only alien!Ossy around, with everyone else being Earth-native. Would require a few changes to Aggregor, but not nearly so much as making him an alien!Ossy would do with how I'm dividing up the powers...
Alan and Pierce are obvious hits for Earth!Ossy-ness, given Alan's shapeshifting and you could in theory put the shit Pierce does with his quills in the same boat. I tend to make Pierce and Helen cousins by blood siblings by upbringing so Helen also being Ossy would make sense... So we get Alan who like Kevin is wholly Ossy/[Alien], then the Wheelses who are Ossy/Human/[Alien]...
Manny... There's not really anything for Manny that would push him towards one or the other? Like, maybe could make his mom part alien!Ossy, so he and Kev have that in common, low enough that he's not really getting much but some added senses, nastier teeth than full-tetramand would have... Either way would have to keep him from getting the healing factor I give the bastards, he is staying disabled damnit, I have standards...
I'm torn on Mike, meanwhile, because honestly there's nothing going on with him that couldn't be explained with 'mutant with the Spark' and he, like Kevin, gets the mutant label anyway... But then on the other hand having him have Earth!Ossy going on is a perfect excuse to have the Tennysons, Wheelses, and Manny team up to deal with an energy demon dragon vampire having his first molt not safely confined and so chewing his way through the warehouse district. With bonus 'preview of the shit Max will pull with Ultimate Kevin later therefor preventing Ben from falling into his 'must kill though it pains me' mindset, and 'haughty jackass who's been using his species' original place on the food web and the fact that he's not killing his victims to reason away how bad the shit he's been pulling is comes back to himself with a fragment of someone's skull stuck between his teeth and the memory of gutting like four people'...
Like on the one hand it feels very self-indulgent but on the other I'm literally playing alone in a sandbox...
And of course all this needs actual shit for alien!Ossys. Like, physically, because I don't go for just rubber forehead shit... I wanna lean into the landshrimp from my BABO Ossys but I don't know how far into landshrimp I should go. Like, I've already established shit for alien!Ossys in this setting that don't line up with the landshrimp, but I kinda wanna keep the extra limbs and the, well, shrimpness to a degree. Just, figuring out how to do that...
I do have an image of them consuming prey's blood for the sake of not wasting moisture on a desert planet, but I'm not sure if that's something I'm liable to keep...

I'm thinking of doing a side blog for my OCs, but I'm really not sure if anyone would be interested. All my OC's are essentially my take on different horror tropes, focusing on a more victorian/romantic gothic vibe. All the OC's have photoplayers (is this correct?) from my favourite fandoms. I plan on writing for them a story between 3 and 10 chapters, each, since they're all part of a horror/gothic anthology called Thorned Roses in the Garden of Evil.
Mateo already has a series going on (Sanguis Maledictus aka The Demon, the Heretic and the Corrupted), as he was the first, but the others are still TBA, but idk, maybe I could write them drabbles and some of you could interact sharing your thoughts. Idk, I never did anything like it.
Anyway, I present you, my Children of the Moon:
Henry Prescott (Werewolf OC) photoplayer by my beloved Hamish Linklater
Mateo Romero (Priest/Demon OC) photoplayer by dear Daniel Brühl
Haester Grimald (Vampire OC) photoplayer by goth boy David Dastmalchian
Sebastian Blackwood and his counterpart Lucian (Phantom + Jekyll&Hyde OC) photoplayer by incredible Oscar Isaac
Lorian Carfell (Warlock OC) (this fella is a recent addition, so I might be changing a thing or two about him) photoplayer by my honeypot Peter Capaldi

TARA: "Buffy, I promise there's nothing wrong with you."
BUFFY: "There has to be. This can't be me. It isn't me."
--------------------------------------------------------------
TARA: "It's not that simple."
BUFFY: "It is. It's wrong. I'm wrong. Tell me that I'm wrong, please."
Buffy and Tara have a short but very significant dynamic. I've talked about it before when writing about Tara's use and representation in each individual dream in 'Restless'. That for Buffy Tara is a means of identifying and communicating with the deepest parts of herself. A narrative and thematic vehicle for understanding her identity and nature. The parts of herself that she doesn't love and doesn't have any appreciation for. The parts of herself that make her feel wrong and ashamed of herself. The parts of herself that she wants to escape from and hide away. 'BtVS' effectively uses the metaphor or allegory of being a supernatural being like a witch or a slayer or a werewolf or a vampire for being queer. For being an outsider. Cut off from others. Cut off from humanity. And they do it in such a way where you're not meant to believe it as such but to just acknowledge it and entertain the thought that the characters themselves think and feel this way about themselves because they're not really shown or told the contrary until they interact with each other and learn and grow together in solidarity in their experiences of being different from the norm. The writers are basically showing through characters like Buffy, Willow, Tara, Oz and Spike that the supernatural equates to queerness either in identity, sexuality, gender or just in general beingness. Just in being the person that you are. In being yourself.
There's added layers on to it when it comes to the dynamics between Buffy and Spike and Tara and Willow specifically in that it could also mean that they are actually evil in nature as well as queer but going down that route leads to controversial misinterpretations and I don't want to fall into that considering sometimes my words can get me into trouble and I end up insulting or offending a lot of people when I don't mean to. I personally think it's a compelling topical area to explore but I'm not writing this piece of writing today to explore it. Only in what it means regarding being and feeling queer in oneself and, for me, the dynamic Buffy and Tara have best represents that. I suppose for some people who haven't identified and accepted that they're queer, it can come across as feeling evil depending on their cultural background. Their family and home life in particular. And I think the episode 'Family' does a great deal for and in addressing this. Tara has, up to this point, spent her whole life being told by her biological relatives that she's evil or would turn evil. She's been gaslighted and psychologically conditioned to think, feel and believe that her identity and nature as who she is as a person naturally is wrong and is something that she should be ashamed about all because she can do magic. All because she can do things that normal people cannot do - and thus - she's not normal - she's not natural - she's not human. In some ways the demonization of being or feeling queer has a lot of significance and therefore merit in providing overwhelming narrative and thematic substance and depth for 'BtVS's clever take on characterization in a supernatural Universe.
When it comes to the episode 'Dead Things' Buffy is undergoing severe depression and is doing incredibly self-destructive things to feel something again. Something other than her deep despair at being pulled out of heaven by her friends - Tara included. She obviously doesn't like feeling the way she does when she does it but her justification for doing those self-destructive things is because she's come back to life wrong. When she goes to Tara to ask her to check out the spell that resurrected her and Tara comes back to her to tell her that she hasn't come back wrong - that she isn't wrong - she completely breaks down because now that means that she has no justification for doing what she's doing. For using Spike for sexual and emotional gratification, for neglecting her sister and letting her get injured by another one of her friends that's also fell off the wagon - so to speak - and is also involving herself in self-destructive relationships and behaviours with being addicted to magic and numbing herself to her experience, for not making an effort. All of this now is something that she has to question herself on. That if there's not something wrong with her mentally - why is she like this? Why is she doing this? She's just at a complete loss for logic, for reason, for understanding. It's a very effective and meaningful allegory for being queer and not understanding why. Especially because it's Tara she's crying into the lap of in that moment who is queer and can completely empathise with Buffy's experience of being attracted to somebody who she shouldn't be attracted to. And there is a line of dialogue that was removed from the final cut of the scene that explicitly compares Tara being a lesbian and having romantic/sexual feelings for girls to Buffy having feelings for Spike. She gets it because she's been there. She's felt that way too. May even still does even if she's fully out and fully accepted her sexuality. But she knows all too well what it's like to feel wrong for being queer.
Therefore there's a lot to glean about Buffy and Tara's dynamic and what it represents, what its significance is, despite being so short and non-detailed. You could even go as far as saying the metaphor or allegory isn't really one at all because Buffy is actually queer in both identity and sexuality. I mean the narrative hints at this being truth enough times in the show that you could definitely see it happening or becoming a possibility at some point in her character arc. And you know, with the whole Faith thing, it's not exactly well hidden either. Even though I don't ship them at all, Buffy and Faith definitely have something romantic/sexual there that all but makes the metaphor or allegory negated as far as sexuality goes. Identity is another story. And one of Buffy's core themes for her characterization is identity - which is why the Tara = witch/Buffy = slayer parallels work so well and why they so brilliantly convey the notion of queer/gay solidarity.
As for whether that makes them evil or means that they can be evil... that's a topic better left alone but I think it does present a compelling case study for a queer person's experience when they do not understand nor accept themselves for being as they naturally are, which I think is something that makes a lot of sense for the character arcs of Willow, Spike and Oz too in that they have trouble reconciling with their dark sides and that there's much of themselves that they suppress or repress so they don't have to feel like who they are is wrong or evil or a burden to the ones they love and that love them. And that they can be involved and fully connect with others healthily as opposed to destroying themselves and each other in the process like Buffy and Spike do so frequently in their S6 enemies-to-lovers dance of death, abuse and pain sorely mistaken for life, love and pleasure.
There's definitely a compelling case study for all of that to be unpacked and I probably will unpack it at some point once I can figure out how to articulate it so that it doesn't come off as offensive to the people who identify themselves to any of these characters because my intention is never to offend. Only to teach and enlighten. Okay, maybe I don't have the right or authority to do that but I write my meta for me just as much as I do for other people and so I certainly have the right and authority to teach and enlighten myself. And if I feel that I want to write about that topic at some point, I will. And I will do so through the fiction of art/entertainment and my favourite characters because that's the best way that I know how. If it comes across as offensive, all I can do is apologize for it but all I'm intentionally trying to do with doing it is expand my consciousness. I'm an INTP, a Virgo and Claircognizant - this is just how things work with me. I need to write to get a better understanding of who I am. My wording isn't the greatest, I know that. But I'm trying my best. So please - if you read what I write and you feel offended by it, reach out to me and I WILL explain to you that my heart is in the right place. That I just want to learn and understand and evolve. That's all it is.
