I GOT IT. or at least good enough? so for some reason loading in my savestates wasn’t working. but fortunately for me i’ve also been in-game saving too just like on the side. i didn’t know if it actually mattered or not. cuz every time i’d boot up the rom again and actually sit through the title screen it appeared that the in-game save file was blank so i was like ok whatever. but still i was out there saving the game for funsies. and now i’m very glad for it!! i mean i did lose a tiny bit of progress bc there was a slight discrepancy between my last savestate save and in-game save but like. sheesh. after the heart attack i was having about having to replay the entire game i don’t mind re-fighting a single easy gym leader. i don’t mind at all

Note
Your amazing work here has inspired me to want to try doing a script project for DQB2 and I was wondering if you had any advice for me?
I'm gonna assume that's some sorta dragon quest game?
Well, ISAT really is a blessing in this regard, because the game is not encrypted at all. Accessing files and all text via rpgmaker MV and VSC is incredibly easy.
okay this got really long i'm putting it under the cut.
But before you get started, there really are some things you need to ask yourself first:
How am I going to get the text from this game?
If your answer is "write it down by hand as I play" then already know that there HAS to be a better way. If you're choosing that method, get yourself emulation, save states, or endless patience, because hooh boy, I've done a little bit of that for a different project (no, I will not elaborate) but save scumming on original hardware to get different dialogue options is agony.
Is there a text dump for your game? Is there a file dump or decomp for your game? Do you have the technical know how to access it? If not, are you confident in your knowledge of the game to accurately identify where all dialogue may occur? If not, are you satisfied missing out on nothing lines and just focusing on the non-optional? Is your game linear enough to not need a closer look at the code to figure out what happens when, as isat does?
2. What's my scope?
Again, do you truly want every line from this game, or just what's "important"? I personally cannot rest until I've exhausted the fucking Menus (which is why there's a script page for those, too) because I'm a completionist with delusions of grandeur, but some people are satisfied transcribing the cutscenes and nothing else (MUCH TO MY ANNOYANCE WHEN I NEED THE OTHER STUFF.... nobody cares about the optional collectible npc dialogue BUT I CARE!!! I CARE!!!!!)
Anyways, what exactly your scope is is gonna significantly influence what your next step looks like.
3. How am I going to present this?
Making the isat script project an individual website mainly came down to how finicky the dialogue in isat is. There's conditionals stacked on conditionals and I wanted a space where I had total control over how to present these factors without influence.
For more linear games, like, say, that time I made all the fewiki scripts for Fire Emblem 6 from chapter 12 onward, it was easy enough to present the scripts on a wiki page just because the game is much more linear, there's less dialogue to begin with, and all conditional text could be nicely divided up into similar groups, like boss dialogue where the condition is just "fight boss with x character".
Tumblr media
isat script project would not exist without my fire emblem fixation, fun fact. other fun facts include that as a child i attempted to novelize Mario Party DS by transcribing all story mode text into a booklet by hand, and I did not finish this for reasons that are hopefully obvious.
This is, as you may figure, way easier to do. There is significantly less burden on you to actually understand how a website works - I cannot stress enough that the current state of the script project is only possible thanks to Gold, and without them, we'd still be at all dialogue being formatted as <p><b>Siffrin:</b> Says some text.</p>
For a lot of older games, you can also find whole game scripts being put up into a single document. Tis common on gamefaqs, I've used those plenty. There I believe you're just working with plain ol txt.
The rule is always though look at examples and if they do something cool figure out whether you can copy it. i did not create the website layout myself, i used a base and fiddled with it for a whole weekend until it stopped exploding.
Again, like, using an existing structure like a wiki or gamefaqs or just google docs or a spreadsheet is a significantly eased burden. One of my favorite things ever is actually a text dump on github, of all places. For this one, the person putting it up chose to leave all text in as close to original state as possible, doing no trimming of things like character emotes and leaving in all original string titles of every line. This is also incredibly useful, even if it is more difficult to use for your average schmoe! (This has fucking saved me doing wiki stuff for engage. engage text dump i ADORE you)
Do you want to be as accurate to the code as possible, or as accurate to the game? Do you have the time, energy, and skills to make the visual presentation nice? Or do you want to keep it rudimentary to streamline your process?
If you ARE doing something like making your own website, it is crucial that you figure out your visuals early, lest you be like us, and be stuck in Reformatting Hell for several months, because someone figured out how to make a thing prettier and nicer to read, and now you need to update the 100+ pages you've already created.
Reformatting code like that takes just as long as making a page in the first place, by the by, because you're just not getting around copy-pasting everything line by agonizing line.
This stuff takes HOURS. If I went at it alone, I doubt I'd have finished by now, or within the next like, two years. This is a really time consuming hobby, and I love doing it a lot, it scratches my exact fixation itch, but if your game is huge, consider seeing if people would be interested in joining you? I will also say being autistic about your game of choice is also a bonus in the sustainability department.
Many a times there were just no updates (as they are now) cuz I am just. Distracted by something else. Like yes on one hand I'm going to uni now and have less time but it's not really less time if I can still put 17hrs into a new video game in three days.
Stuff like this is ALWAYS a long-term project and you WILL need to take time off from it or else you'll start seeing html in your dreams and get burnout.
STREAMLINE YOUR PROCESS!!! FIGURE OUT HOW TO DO THIS WITH AS LITTLE EFFORT AS POSSIBLE!!!! Gold introduced me to Espanso, which is a program that lets you set up keyboard shortcuts to insert phrases, which was a MAAAAAASSIVE time saver in the html department, as it allowed me to just rapid fire paste in all the many html classes we stacked for the presentation of the site. even if you are doing a script on a wiki where everything does look like ['''Siffrin:''' says a thing] you will still be doing yourself a favor if you can shorten that '''Siffrin:''' to just typing :s .
As a side note, I also wanna say like. The popularity of isat script project is a complete outlier. Other game scripts may be used by a maniac like me to overanalyze the plot structure of Sonic 06, but you're very likely not going to see that recognition. I love doing this, because I want these resources to exist for myself. I don't do this for the good of the fandom, but because it is useful to me. I started this because I was writing isat fanfic, and got tired of looking up dialogue on youtube or booting up my own game.
Do I know if anyone found my FE6 scripts useful? No. Do I know if anyone is going through Veyle/Quotes and appreciating that I transcribed all the fucking battle voice clips? No. Do I know if someone appreciates me accurately labelling all voice lines from the ring polishing minigame in engage? Hell no. I don't know, I'm never going to get feedback on that. Those are wiki pages, anyone can edit them, they don't have viewcounts or comments I can look at, and the fandom just isn't as prone to taking screenshots and posting about them line by line as isat.
Isat blew the fuck up on tumblr. I'm not saying you'll get no recognition at all, but if you are relying on external motivators, you are probably going to peter out. There are pages I've worked on for other script things that I've genuienly not touched in two years because I just didn't feel like it, and that's also okay.
TLDR:
Figure out how to get the text you need with the least effort possible (and figure out whether doing that is even possible at all!), figure out what scope you're actually willing to put up with, and present it with the least effort possible, because everything else just isn't sustainable. Streamline streamline streamline. Be prepared to spend hours on this and maybe like find a new favorite podcast to just copy paste text to, because honestly, doing this is also pretty zen.
And most importantly, sparkle on, don't forget to have fun! Even if it seems big and intimidating, you can still make it just a fun side project, and slowly chip away at it over time. Rome wasn't built in a day, and with all the advantages going for isat script project (additional manpower, unencrypted files, easy tools for game examination) it still took over a year to complete.
(loop voice) Don't make the same mistakes I did, okay?
oh, yeah, one last thing, if you're not putting it on a wiki and ARE making your own website, ABSOLUTELY PUT IT ON GITHUB!!!! setting up so any changes to the main branch on github get reflected onto neocities is pretty easy and you only need to do it once, and what this allows is to just have random strangers show up and fix your problems for you. sometimes someone will just show up and fix five bajillion typos and then leave. or they'll stick around and help with more stuff and wowie you have a semblance of a team now.
if you're doing it on a wiki, find like, the wiki discord, if someone is interested in chipping in. if you're doing your own website, put it on github. do it. do it do it do it.

All The King's Horses | As You Are Now, So Once Was I by @samwpmarleau (grumkinsnark)
All The King's Horses [LiveJournal ch1] [Fanfiction.net ch1]
As You Are Now, So Once Was I [LiveJournal ch1] [Fanfiction.net ch1]
Fandom: Supernatural, Criminal Minds
Rating: Teen | PG-13
Category: Gen
Words: ~36,192
All The King's Horses: Protect and Serve. Fidelity, Bravery, Integrity. To what lengths would you go to uphold those oaths? When it comes to a particularly brutal and unsolvable case, the BAU just may have to resort to some more unorthodox methods. SPN/Criminal Minds crossover.
As You Are Now, So Once Was I: Sequel to "All the King's Horses." When Dean catches J.J.'s press conference on the news about a current case and notices a few...inconsistencies, he realizes the BAU is definitely going to need his help. Again. ON HIATUS
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
About the Book
FORMAT: Letter quarto, flatback bradel binding, french link stitch, no tapes
FONTS: EB Garamond [via Google Fonts], Supernatural Knight [via DaFont], D-Din [via Font Squirrel], Daniel [via DaFont], Permanent Marker [via Google Fonts], Arial
IMAGES: Seal of the FBI [via Wikipedia], Dean's handprint scar [by greenhorn-art]
MATERIALS: 24lb Xerox Bold Digital paper (8.5"x11"), 80pt binder's board (~2mm), 30/3 size waxed linen thread, embroidery floss (DMC #721), 1.9mm cording, brown cardstock, black Cialux bookcloth, gold foil transfer sheet (came with We R Memory Keepers hot foil pen)
PROGRAMS USED: Fic exported with FicHub, word doc compiled in LibreOffice Writer, Typeset in Affinity Publisher, imposed with Bookbinder-JS, title pages designed in Affinity Designer/Photo
.
I first read these stories on LiveJournal back in 2013, some time after I first encountered Tumblr, Supernatural, and the wider world of online fandom. Once I discovered SPNxCriminal Minds crossovers I devoured so many of them. Something about POV Outsider on the Winchesters, the existing connections with investigating monster vs human-crazy cases, and run-ins with the FBI... it's just works so well.
Of all the SPNxCM fics I read and enjoyed, All The King's Horses is among those that bookmarked themselves in my brain. Since it's been living there all these years, I thought it deserved a place on my bookshelf too.
(Rambling below)
Sourcing the Fic
I used FicHub to download the fics off of Fanfiction.net as HTML. Then I pasted them into LibreOffice Writer and created rich text documents of each fic, so I could Place them into Affinity Publisher.
The stories were crossposted, first on LiveJournal and then Fanfiction. I included the metadata from both sites in the appendices.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(It's fascinating to see the differences in the same work between platforms. FFN requires genres, so if the author doesn't add them on LJ then by default there's more info on FFN. But FFN limits listed characters to 2, so authors have to pick and choose the most important. Then there's the author's amusing disclaimers and spoiler warnings for these fics, which are only included in the LJ version)
Shoutout to the author for how they linked/listed their accounts on other platforms! Thanks to that I was easily able to track down all the tags/metadata for the fics, and find them here to express my appreciation for their stories!
Typesetting
Fonts
EB Garamond is my new favourite body font, 11pt as per my usual.
The title page is entirely Arial: 1) it was the closest match I have to the case file prop I was copying, and 2) if it was a government doc they wouldn't be using anything but the most basic fonts.
Headings and the the bullets bracketing the page numbers are set it Supernatural Knight, a free font in the style of Supernatural's title.
The location segments are in D-DIN, the closest free match to the font Criminal Minds uses (which is probably DIN).
Daniel is used for Dean's 'rushed but legible' note.
Permanent Marker for the 'thick black Sharpie' case file labels.
Artwork
Title pages designed as FBI case files, copied from a prop found online (specifically Etsy's propfictionstudios', but it's all over the web so no idea who actually created it). I had fun plugging in all the fanfic/bookbinding meta!
The ID# above the author's name is the FFN story ID, and the date is the date originally posted on LJ.
The handprint used in the headings of ATKH is Dean's scar. I traced off of a screenshot from s4e01 Lazarus Rising. I chose to use the handprint instead of the anti-possession tattoo or a Devil's Trap as my SPN art element because 1) it's specific to Dean, and 2) indicates/reminds that the story is not set during the season 3 Agent Henriksen/FBI arc.
Grabbed the FBI seal off of Wikipedia.
Construction
Both fics typeset and printed separately, then sewn together into one book. Title page for the sequel was tipped in like an endpaper prior to sewing.
Endbands sewn with orange embroidery floss (DMC 721) around 1.9mm cording. I chose orange because Dean's being in jail brought to mind the orange prison jumpsuits Sam and Dean wore in s1e19 Folsom Prison Blues.
Tumblr media
Black bookcloth for the cover, like the Winchesters' beloved black '67 Chevy Impala. (I'd wanted a Supernatural reference to balance out the Criminal Minds-ness of the FBI case files).
I'd originally planned to make lineart of the front of the car, and have it stretch across the bottom of the cover (maybe even wrap around to the back). Even found a useful reference to trace [from here], but it didn't look as good as I'd hoped. Instead I reused the FBI seal and swapped out its text with the titles.
(The effect of shiny foiled FBI symbol on small black book reminds me of one of those FBI badge wallets!)
The foiling process was an unnecessarily long and gruelling affair. My laptop served as a massive power bank for the hot foil pen as I spent 2hrs ever so slowly tracing the image, and then 15mins on the author name and touch-ups. Did it need to take so long? Moving slowly, pushing down hard, going over everything at least three times? I'm sure it didn't. BUT I did not want to chance peeling up the foil to check how I was doing and risk shifting it. It was worth it in my books (haha) ‒ I feel giddy and kick my feet like a schoolgirl whenever I see it!
New Things
Used 24lb paper for the first time, and I love it! It's a little thicker and heavier then regular 20lb printer paper, feels more substantial.
The page numbers & running/section headers are along the outer margin, instead of in the header/footer. This was my way around Affinity's buggy-ness regarding pinning things inline in master pages. (More about that below). If I had been thinking, I could have formatted them like the tabs on a file folder and cut the textblock to match. Oh well, the things you notice once it's printed 😔
This time I also started new chapters/sections using text flow & paragraph spacing settings, instead of using a master. As always, there are pros and cons.
Pro: much faster and less involved. (find chapter start, apply paragraph style VS working from the end cutting text, inserting a frame break, unlinking frames, inserting new pages with master, relinking, pasting, and adding chapter title to a different text box)
Con: images need to be added manually (whether by adding image directly, or by applying a master with the image). I forgot to do this for the second fic, so only ATKH have Dean's handprint scar.
Difficulties Encountered
Affinity Publisher is fighting me on pinning things inline on master pages. They like to disappear on regular pages I've applied the master to. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't, sometimes it only works on some of the pages. Idk what's up. (The bullet character only faces one way so I had use textboxes, flip/mirror one, and pin them inline to the page number).
So instead of having page numbers in the footer, bookended left and right by text boxes with Supernatural Knight's bullet, I put it vertically down the side.
Updated Publisher and all my paragraph styles' fonts changed/went funny. Something to do with the update's variable font support, I think. What was previously 'EB Garamond' regular, was now something along the lines of 'EBGaramond-Regular' which isn't a font. Issue seems to have ironed itself out in my original (near-complete) doc while I was busy remaking it. 😐
On the bright side, the update brought QR code generation to Affinity!

On Piracy
So. It's time to try and structure my thoughts about piracy, its morality and its role in media preservation. In a nutshell, the Path of the Hook is one I recommend you follow, for your own good and, most importantly, for the health of human spirit altogether. Here's a couple things to keep in mind and a few limits you need to ponder. This is how I think of it, you might disagree with me at some point, but it will nonetheless serve as a good starting point for reflection.
First of all, I think there are differences between pirating different kinds of media. Starting with audiovisual media: it is almost always morally correct to pirate it, and in many cases it is critically necessary for you to do so if you want it to survive. Nowadays (and I'm not saying nothing revolutionary here), most of the films and shows are released exclusively (or primarily) on streaming platforms, and never get to exist in a physical format. That implies that a) you do not own what you're paying for, you're renting it, and b) the company can easily erase any work from existence at any time. The latter alone is enough to justify piracy, because if they remove something and no one pirated it, that piece of media is lost. Forever. The decision to nuke media is one taken by the company, not by the creators, and this has resulted in artists having to pirate their own work to save it from oblivion. From this perspective, therefore, I would urge you to assume that any audiovisual work that you haven't stored offline in a physical device is sentenced to death. If enough people assume the same and act accordingly to prevent it, then archival redundancy might be strong enough and that piece of art might survive extinction. But we need to do our share in order for it to work, it is a collective endeavour.
Perhaps you are thinking, "but what about all the people that work to create a piece of media, aren't you stealing their wages?" Well, the workers involved in producing a show or a film usually get paid a fixed amount for their work, regardless of how much the final product makes. They might get to keep a fraction of the revenue in the form of residuals, but between Hollywood's "creative accounting" and the impact of streaming on residual payments, many times they don't get to cash in anything, so I'd say the works' preservation highly outweights these hypotetical revenue losses.
"And what about the company who holds the rights, aren't you stealing their property?" Yes, I am. But a multi-million dollar company is not a human being. We shouldn't see them as subjects deserving of moral consideration. They are ungodly amalgamations of power and greed that are actively destroying society and the planet. Their losses don't harm anyone but those who profit off workers' precariousness, and I don't think we should consider those people as valid participants in society. Therefore, if I somehow harm Michael Mouse by downloading The Owl House, then so be it!
At the beginning I said that audiovisual media is almost always morally correct. That almost takes care of individual productions or small teams working to create their art. In this case, revenues are much more directly linked to actual people's wages and livelyhood. Here, putting "media preservation" over fairly compensating creators' time and effort is not something we should do, in my opinion. Piracy is a tool to be used against the capital, not against the workers. So, if your favorite artists sells cool videos, buy them whenever you can afford it, go watch indie film screenings, support small artistitic creation, because it is the only way art and culture can keep existing away from the claws of capitalism. However, if you are supporting artists via a subscription service and you are not getting the actual file of what you're paying for... I would still suggest finding a way to download it after you've paid for it. Remeber, anything that isn't stored on multiple places, will eventually disappear.
Moving away from films and shows, let's consider books. There is a critical difference between them and digital media, because books are still mainly a physical thing. Of course, e-books are more prevalent than ever, but they usually have a paper counterpart. And if they don't, you can easily create one. You can print a book, you cannot print an episode of Supernatural. And although adecquately backed up digital files are more resilient than a single physical copy of a book, they rely on our current digital infrastructure to survive. In two hundred years, when the Internet and computers are but distant memories, books will keep existing, if we manage to keep them away from the fire. With books, piracy is not the only tool for preservation.
This is why pirating books is mainly an economic issue, one that should follow the considerations I have outlined for digital media. Is the book from a giant publishing house or a millionaire writer who won't even notice it if you download their book? Pirate away! Are you interested in downloading an academic text behind a pay-wall? PLEASE, DO IT, SCIENTIFIC PUBLISHING IS A SCAM THAT STEALS FROM BOTH THE AUTHORS AND THE READERS, PIRATE ALL YOUR PAPERS EVEN IF YOU CAN AFFORD TO PAY THEM. Is the book published by a small author to whom every sale matters? Maybe don't pirate it. Maybe buy the book when you can afford it, because again, supporting small creators is the only way to keep culture alive, to keep it bound to the people, to make artists, and therefore art, able to exist.
Lastly, an issue about which I don't have a clear answer. What if I cannot afford to buy a book or a film? Am I supposed to miss out on all the amazing independent art out there? Well, I think in these cases we should try other options first. Libraries are an amazing invention that offers a critically important service to society, and they need to be used in order to keep existing. So ask for it on your local library! You can also borrow it from a friend, or pool resources with a couple of friends and buy a copy together! Ideally, all culture should be free and available to everyone, but I think that shouldn't involve stealing other people's work (again, I'm talking about people, companies are not people). In practice, this would mean abolishing capitalism and the concept of money, but that's another story for another day...
Thanks for reading! What's your take on all this?? I would love to hear it!!

2025 Digital Marketing Trends: What You Should Really Pay Attention To
If you’ve been paying even a little attention to digital marketing lately, you’ll know things are moving faster than ever. Platforms change, algorithms shift, and customer behavior keeps evolving. What worked last year might not work today—and what’s working today might be gone by next quarter.
It can feel a bit overwhelming, sure. But here’s the good news: if you stay curious and pay attention to the right trends, there’s huge opportunity to stand out. Whether you're already in the field or just starting your journey through the best digital marketing training institute in Calicut, understanding the pulse of 2025 gives you a major edge.
1. Welcome to the Age of Real-Time Experiences
Marketing is no longer just about putting content out there and hoping people see it. In 2025, it’s about responding while it’s happening—right in the moment.
Think live streams, interactive polls, flash deals during events, or even AI-powered chat assistants that talk to customers at midnight. Real-time engagement is now a core part of strategy, especially in e-commerce and service-based industries.
2. Storytelling > Hard Selling
Let’s be honest: people don’t like being sold to. At least, not directly. What they do love is a good story.
Brands that can wrap their message into a narrative—about a mission, a journey, a personal experience—are finding it much easier to connect with audiences. It’s not about pushing a product. It’s about pulling people in with emotion, relevance, and relatability.
3. AI Is Helping, But Human Creativity Still Wins
Everyone’s talking about artificial intelligence, and yes, it’s a big deal. It helps with automating repetitive tasks, generating ideas, and even scheduling campaigns. But here’s the kicker—it doesn’t replace creative thinking.
In fact, the best marketers right now are the ones who use AI as a tool, not a crutch. They let it handle the backend, while they focus on crafting bold ideas, unique angles, and messages that sound like they came from a real person.
4. The Death of the Third-Party Cookie is Real
Browser cookies—those tiny data files that track your every move online—are fading out. Privacy laws and consumer pushback have forced platforms to rethink how data is collected.
As a result, marketers are shifting focus to first-party data—info gathered directly from your audience via sign-ups, feedback forms, or gated content. This makes email marketing and CRM systems more important than ever.
5. Search Isn’t Just Google Anymore
Search engine optimization (SEO) isn’t just about ranking on Google. People are now “searching” on Instagram, YouTube, TikTok, Pinterest, and even LinkedIn.
Each platform has its own rules and algorithms. That means your content has to be optimized for where your audience hangs out, not just for traditional search engines. Understanding platform-specific search behaviors is a critical new skill.
6. Digital Marketing Is Becoming More Localized
While the internet connects the world, customers still care about what’s happening in their area. Hyperlocal marketing is on the rise, using geotargeting, local SEO, and community-focused campaigns.
If you're promoting a business or service, tailoring your strategy to a specific city, language, or even neighborhood can drastically improve engagement.
And yes, that includes people looking for the best digital marketing training institute in Calicut—they’re searching locally too.
7. Email Is Making a Comeback—With a Twist
It might surprise some, but email marketing is still one of the highest ROI channels around. The difference now is how emails are being written.
Gone are the boring newsletters. In their place? Story-style formats, curated content digests, and personalized emails that talk like a friend, not a corporation. A strong email list is a goldmine—if used right.
8. Your Personal Brand Matters More Than Ever
People trust people more than companies. Whether you’re a freelancer, job-seeker, or business owner, your personal brand is a major asset.
Being active on LinkedIn, sharing behind-the-scenes on Instagram, or even starting a blog can build credibility and open doors. Clients and employers now Google you before they hire or buy. Make sure they find something worth their time.
9. Short Learning Cycles Are Replacing Traditional Degrees
Here’s something that’s become crystal clear in 2025: you don’t need a 3-year degree to start working in digital marketing. What you need is skills, hands-on practice, and the ability to adapt quickly.
That’s why so many learners are choosing the best digital marketing training institute in Calicut instead of traditional routes. Institutes that focus on live projects, real tools, and actual industry challenges are the ones producing job-ready professionals.
10. Platforms Come and Go—But Strategy Stays
It’s easy to get caught up in whatever platform is trending this month. Threads today, TikTok tomorrow, something new next week. But if you know how to build a good campaign—identify an audience, craft a message, and choose the right timing—you can adapt to any platform.
The fundamentals are what set you apart. And that’s what solid training focuses on—not just learning tools, but understanding strategy.
Final Thoughts
Digital marketing in 2025 isn’t just about being online—it’s about being intentional, creative, and quick to adapt. The landscape will keep changing, but those who stay curious, keep practicing, and learn from the right sources will always stay ahead.
If you're someone thinking about breaking into this space, consider your options wisely. The best digital marketing training institute in Calicut won’t just give you certificates—they’ll give you confidence, clarity, and real-world skills that matter.
You don’t need to be a genius. You just need to start. And there’s never been a better time than now.

Pinned post!
As the title implies, this blog is run via bot! It currently creates one post every 23 hours, and pulls from a pool of dialogue from the main/side stories, the character stories, and the encampment exploration conversations. I'm planning to add more stuff later, particularly some of the miscellaneous flavor text like character profiles/war chronicle stuff/ability descriptions/etc.
Please feel free to let me know if you notice any problems with the posts! I did my best to clean up the data, but due to the sheer amount of dialogue in tri strat, chances are I mislabeled some things or did formatting stuff weird.
Some other nitty gritty details for anyone who's curious:
This bot was created using a Google Sheet and an Integromat scheduled scenario. The speakers and the actual dialogue text was pulled directly from the game files, but a lot of the context tags were things I added manually (and are therefore more likely to be incorrect).
Dialogue lines were processed chronologically and then grouped together by speaker, e.g. if Roland and Serenoa are talking and Roland has three lines before Serenoa gets his turn to talk, I combined those three lines together such that it became one piece of dialogue for the purposes of this bot. I did this because individual lines can be pretty short and often lack context when left alone (there are at least a few places where two dialogue boxes are essentially the same sentence with some punctuation slapped in the middle). However, this does sometimes link together mostly-unrelated sentences as well, so it's not perfect.
I arbitrarily removed a good amount of lines that were along the lines of: "Understood." "Thank you." "Indeed." and other simple responses. For Serenoa in particular, since he has a lot more dialogue than anyone else, I also removed longer lines that were vague/not super interesting/were repeated many times with slightly different wording (e.g. stuff like "How is he doing?" or "I've found what I was looking for. Time to consult with the others.").
Here's the spreadsheet the bot pulls from if anyone wants to see what's in there!

Haven't done a computer status update in a little bit. Raspberry Pi media server has been psuedo-retired. It's currently still functioning as a media server for a christmas display at my wife's work until the end of December.
It has been successfully replaced by the Dell Optiplex that I got from work. I was able to skip the process of building a migration script for the server (to allow files to be moved and refound via filename & hash), but only because I've been mapping storage outside the server's webroot via link files in the upload directory. So on the new HD the files are actually in the upload directory rather than linked to it. As far as the server knows they're in the same place.
I transferred the software between machines by making a new install of vogon on the optiplex and then importing a mysqldump of the existing install into it, bringing the user accounts, media data, and other configuration elements with it. I did end up changing the storage engine of the data and data_meta tables into innodb (from isam) and adding some additional indexing. There were some noticeable performance differences on the generated join queries between servers. We were looking at 7sec+ lookup times for searches in the audio module. I'm still not sure if it's a mariadb version difference between raspbian and ubuntu lts, if something got corrupted in the export/import process, or if it was some strange storage lookup difference between running the database off of a SETA Hard-Drive versus an SD card. I initially thought maybe it was a fragmentation issue, but the built in optimization processes didn't really impact it, but with the adjustments to the indexing we're regularly getting query times measured in microseconds versus seconds, so it's working pretty well now.
The x86 processor and the faster storage (without the power dropout issues) have really improved the experience. Especially with reading comic books.
If I haven't explained it before, the way the CBZ reader works is that it sends a file list from the archive to the browser, the browser requests an image, and the server extracts the image data into RAM, base64 encodes it, and sends it back to the browser. It's a process that is bottlenecked by both CPU and storage speeds, so it's noticeably snappier on the new machine, even if the CPU is over a decade old at this point.
I'm actually considering taking a crack at forking mozilla's pdf.js to work a similar way, sending a page of data at a time, to decrease transfer times and allow lower memory devices to open large PDFs without having to actually download the whole thing. I suspect that means I'm going to have to build smaller single page PDF files on the fly, which would mean coming up with some kind of solution for in document links. I'm still in the phase of deciding if it's enough of a problem to put effort into solving, so I haven't done enough research to know if it will be easy or difficult. It's always hard to tell in situations like this because just about every web reader project assumes downloading the whole file, and the question is do they do it this way because it's hard to sub-divide the format, or do they do it because full clientside logic can be demoed on github pages.

Tools We Use for Collaborative Design That Clients Love
In the world of modern design, collaboration isn’t just helpful—it’s essential. At Transcurators, we believe that the best outcomes happen when our creative team and clients work together throughout the design process. And for that, the right tools make all the difference.
Gone are the days of endless email chains, blurry PDFs, and feedback lost in translation. Thanks to a thoughtful tech stack, our workflow is built for speed, clarity, and transparency. These tools don’t just help us create stunning designs—they help you feel more involved, informed, and in control.
And when paired with our expert Graphic Designing Services, this collaborative ecosystem delivers a design experience clients genuinely enjoy.
Here’s a behind-the-scenes look at the collaborative tools we use—and why our clients love them.
1. Figma: Real-Time Collaboration, Simplified
Figma is our go-to tool for interface design, website layouts, and brand mockups. What makes it a client favorite?
Live collaboration: Clients can view progress in real time, leave comments directly on elements, and watch changes unfold as we work.
No downloads needed: Just a browser and a link.
Version control: Every iteration is tracked, making feedback loops smoother and changes easily reversible.
It’s like Google Docs for design—and clients love the transparency.
2. Notion: One Hub for Everything
We use Notion as our central dashboard for each design project. It helps us organize:
Creative briefs
Timelines and status updates
Reference materials
Client feedback and notes
Clients can view their entire project status in one glance—no scattered messages or missing files. This keeps communication streamlined and expectations aligned.
3. Slack: Instant, Human Communication
While emails still have their place, we prefer Slack channels for day-to-day design collaboration. With dedicated project threads, shared file access, and quick updates, Slack creates a space where clients can:
Ask real-time questions
Approve quick changes
Get updates without formal meetings
It’s casual, direct, and helps build stronger relationships beyond just tasks.
4. Loom: Visual Feedback Without the Call
Sometimes, explaining feedback in text just doesn’t cut it. That’s where Loom shines.
We use Loom to:
Walk through design concepts visually
Present ideas asynchronously
Share screen-recorded feedback summaries
Clients can reply in their own time, watch updates, and leave voice or text comments. It’s ideal for busy professionals who want to stay involved without scheduling calls.
5. Trello: Clear, Visual Project Tracking
Trello gives clients a kanban-style view of how their project is moving—from concept to delivery. It’s a favorite for those who like visual timelines and status cards.
Each board includes:
Task breakdowns
Progress labels
Comment threads for context
It’s especially useful for multi-phase projects like rebranding, multi-page website builds, or monthly creative retainers.
6. Google Drive: The Reliable Workhorse
Some things never go out of style. For shared assets, presentation decks, and high-resolution file storage, we use Google Drive—organized with folders per client and project phase.
Clients can access, comment, download, and upload in a format they already use and trust.
7. Adobe Creative Cloud: The Core Design Powerhouse
While collaboration tools are essential, the foundation of our creative process still lies in Adobe’s suite—Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, After Effects, and more.
We combine Adobe’s design power with collaborative previews (via Figma, PDFs, or exported snippets) so you get the best of both worlds—high-end design quality with collaborative ease.
8. Frame.io: For Video Design Collaboration
For clients working on motion graphics, video intros, or animated explainers, Frame.io makes collaboration seamless. It allows:
Frame-by-frame feedback
Timestamped comments
Easy approvals and revisions
This tool is ideal for marketing teams, YouTubers, and startups building branded video assets.
Conclusion: Collaboration Is a Design Superpower
When clients feel included in the process, magic happens. Faster feedback. Fewer revisions. Better results. At Transcurators, we don’t just create designs—we build relationships powered by clarity, collaboration, and creativity.
If you're tired of unclear design processes or communication gaps with freelancers, it's time to try something different. Our Graphic Designing Services are built on collaborative tools and a client-first mindset. Because we believe great design shouldn’t just look good—it should feel good to create.

Dev Log May 16 - A bit of a Bind
We've already done a Steam Deck Update and then a Controller update, as well as smaller semi-weekly and holiday content updates, but right now we're currently in the middle of preparing for the first major content update. So if you were wondering where the patch was this last Monday, we decided to hold off on pushing those new levels until the full set of changes was ready, which is looking to be on the 26th as long as Fantasy Life i doesn't prove to be too addicting. So look forward to tons more hats, a bunch more levels, a whole lot of QoL tweaks, and some surprises in the side-game content. No Level Editor, official Mod Support or Campaign Mode quite yet, but the To Do list is rapidly shrinking, and we haven't had to cut any features at all. So yeah - all going smoothly at this point. The title is more of a reference to a bit of cleanup that we're handling right now - namely the removal of the Bind field from our scene graph layouts. Which I will talk about. Right now. For all graphics data in the game, the actual display layout is done using a series of JSON files to describe where the different visual pieces like the images and text go, as well as any movements that they perform via animation. I've talked a bit in the past about the flexibility of our Plaster system, but as good as it is out of the box, eventually you're going to need custom scripting for very special behaviors, like populating a list of levels or changing a button icon based on what controller is plugged in. And getting those two systems to connect is a bit trickier than you'd initially imagine. Now, mods aren't allowed to write their own scripts for what happens during specific interactions, so that simplifies everything on our end just a wee tiny bit that we don't have to go the full Godot route and allow actual scripts to be attached to each node. Instead, what we really need is just a way for a button to indicate "hey, I'm the Previous Stage button. Move to the previous stage when clicked, but disable when no previous stage is available." Our first approach (way back in the pre-1.0 days) was to just have each individual section defined, and then the script itself would just piece together everything into what it wanted. That means the Retry and Pause buttons were special definitions in the mod, with no total scene layout specified, and their relative layout to everything else was pretty much hardcoded. Which, you know, works, and is how most games are going to do it anyway, but obviously we changed it over to the full scene layout format, so we needed a more dynamic way of assigning behaviors. So, the next brilliant scheme was to introduce the concept of "binding". You set the "bind" property of an object in the json file, and then the scripting side can declare that it cares about that particular bind, and then operate on it however it wants. The two-way binding actually worked fairly decent, and is what's in there right now. However, we're kind of realizing that it was way overkill for exactly what we need, and ended up being a lot more restrictive than we thought, so we're toning it back with a slightly dumber but a bit more streamlined system.
The first issue was that there was a ton of book-keeping required for making sure that binds were handled whenever they came up. It's entirely possible for new objects to be introduced while the game is running, and tracking that kind of thing was no easy feat. There was also the issue of pre-defined binds for stuff like Button icons getting in the way of custom-defined binds, so there were technically two different tracks that had to be checked at all times, which added to even more memory being wasted, as most objects didn't need bound in the first place. Worse yet, something could get bound, unbound, then re-bound again, so all of those systems need to be able to subscribe and unsubscribe at any time. And even then, all bindings have to be declared before any objects are added, so the code will be split into at least 2 sections for the declaration, and then any usage. The second issue was that, because of that book-keeping, each object could only ever be bound to a single target at a time. You wouldn't think it was much of an issue, but for a lot of the on-screen buttons, that meant that the code for applying text and icons regularly got in the way of binding controller inputs, so you ended up copying a lot of boilerplate. Even worse, it ended up enforcing hierarchies on a lot of the sub-menus - want the Reset Gyro Calibration button to be on the main HUD instead of the Pause Menu? You'll have to change the code's binding hierarchy, or else it will still enable/disable based on the menu. Honestly, these kind of sound bad, but it's really not that huge of a deal. At least, that's what I would say if it was an enterprise system that I was sharing with a dozen other devs. However, it's my codebase and I get to say what's a problem that gets fixed, so it gets fixed. So, we introduced the Tag system. Unlike Binds where it was just one per object, the Tags is a string:string dictionary per-object that takes the tag name as the key, and then points to the (animation) path to the object that implements that path. Tags are also not actively tracked. It's a direct lookup/search to nab the object to perform the action, so that means that the entire object always has to be loaded and set up first before the tags can be used, where with the bind the definition had to come first. It's pretty straightforward and works just like any other tagging system - you search for a tag and it does the work then to find it. The only slight quirk is that it stops at the first parent instance that it finds the tag on, but you can still get others from siblings, and then even if it finds the tag, you can daisy-chain it downward if replacing mods piecewise, but that's something for the full documentation once the messiness gets ironed out. So yeah - a little vague (as usual), but the gist is it was a little too over-engineered for it's use, so we have to un-complicate it a little bit to get it to be more flexible for the mod kit side. It's kind of weird to technically be heading away from reactivity, especially with JS where Web Dev is all about those instant data updates, but I suppose there's something to be said that more sophisticated tools don't necessarily mean an easier time. Or perhaps I'm just trying to justify not being able to completely wrap my head around Svelte Runes. Who knows.

Unlock the World of Short-Form Entertainment: Your Guide to YouTube Shorts Downloader
Tumblr media
In today's fast-paced digital landscape, short-form video content has exploded in popularity. Platforms like YouTube Shorts provide a constant stream of engaging and bite-sized entertainment, from hilarious skits to quick tutorials and trending challenges. While YouTube offers a fantastic viewing experience, there might be times when you wish to save these captivating Shorts for offline enjoyment, sharing with friends on other platforms, or even for creative repurposing (with due credit, of course!). This is where a reliable YouTube Shorts downloader comes into play.
Why Consider a YouTube Shorts Downloader?
You might be wondering why you'd need to download YouTube Shorts in the first place. Here are a few compelling reasons:
Offline Viewing: Imagine being on a long flight or commuting through areas with poor internet connectivity. Having your favorite Shorts downloaded means you can keep the entertainment going without interruption or worrying about buffering.
Sharing Beyond YouTube: While you can share YouTube links, sometimes you want to share the actual video file directly with friends via messaging apps or other platforms that don't readily support YouTube links.
Personal Archives: You might come across Shorts that hold sentimental value, contain valuable information, or simply make you laugh out loud. Downloading them allows you to build your personal collection of memorable moments.
Creative Inspiration: For content creators, downloaded Shorts (used responsibly and ethically) can serve as inspiration for new ideas, help analyze trending formats, or be incorporated into your own unique content with proper attribution.
Navigating the Landscape of YouTube Shorts Downloaders
The internet offers a plethora of tools claiming to be the best YouTube Shorts downloader. However, it's crucial to navigate this landscape with caution and choose reputable and safe options. Here are some common types of downloaders you might encounter:
Online Downloaders (Web-Based): These are websites that allow you to paste the link of a YouTube Short and download the video directly through your browser. They are often convenient and don't require any software installation.
Desktop Software: Some applications designed for your computer offer more advanced downloading features, such as batch downloads, format conversion options, and potentially higher download quality.
Mobile Apps: Certain mobile applications provide the functionality to download YouTube Shorts directly to your smartphone or tablet for on-the-go access.
Browser Extensions: These small add-ons integrate directly into your web browser, offering a quick and seamless way to download Shorts as you browse YouTube.
Key Considerations When Choosing a Downloader
With so many options available, how do you choose the right YouTube Shorts downloader for your needs? Here are some important factors to consider:
Safety and Security: This is paramount. Ensure the downloader you choose doesn't contain malware, viruses, or redirect you to suspicious websites. Look for reputable options with positive user reviews.
Ease of Use: A good downloader should be intuitive and straightforward to use, even for beginners. The process of copying and pasting the link and initiating the download should be simple.
Download Quality: Ideally, the downloader should allow you to download Shorts in the highest available quality. Check if it offers different resolution options.
Supported Formats: Consider the video and audio formats the downloader supports. MP4 is a widely compatible video format, but other options might be available.
Speed and Reliability: A reliable downloader should offer reasonably fast download speeds and consistently work without errors or crashes.
Ad Intrusion: Some free downloaders might contain intrusive advertisements. While some ads are expected, excessive or misleading ads can be a nuisance and potentially risky.
Batch Downloading (Optional but Useful): If you frequently download multiple Shorts, a downloader that supports batch downloading can save you significant time and effort.
Platform Compatibility: Ensure the downloader is compatible with the devices and operating systems you intend to use it on (e.g., Windows, macOS, Android, iOS).
Step-by-Step Guide to Downloading YouTube Shorts (General Steps)
While the exact steps might vary slightly depending on the specific downloader you choose, here's a general guide to downloading YouTube Shorts:
Find the YouTube Short: Open the YouTube app or website and navigate to the Short you wish to download.
Copy the Link: Tap the "Share" button (usually an arrow icon) below the Short. From the sharing options, select "Copy link." The link to the Short will be copied to your device's clipboard.
Open Your Chosen Downloader: Launch the website, desktop application, mobile app, or browser extension you've selected for downloading.
Paste the Link: Look for an input field or designated area within the downloader where you can paste the copied YouTube Short link. Paste the link using your device's paste function (Ctrl+V on Windows, Cmd+V on macOS, or a long press and "Paste" on mobile).
Initiate the Download: Once the link is pasted, there will usually be a button like "Download," "Go," or a similar prompt. Click or tap this button to start the download process.
Choose Quality and Format (If Applicable): Some downloaders might offer options to select the desired video quality (e.g., 720p, 1080p) and file format (e.g., MP4). Choose your preferred settings.
Wait for the Download to Complete: The downloader will process the request and begin downloading the Short to your device. The download time will depend on the video size and your internet speed.
Access Your Downloaded Short: Once the download is finished, the video file will typically be saved in your device's default download folder or a location you specified within the downloader's settings. You can now access and enjoy the Short offline.
Important Considerations and Ethical Use
While downloading YouTube Shorts can be convenient, it's crucial to be mindful of copyright and ethical considerations:
Respect Copyright: YouTube's Terms of Service and copyright laws protect content creators. Downloading Shorts for personal use is generally acceptable, but distributing, sharing, or using downloaded content for commercial purposes without the creator's explicit permission is a violation of copyright.
Give Credit Where It's Due: If you intend to share or repurpose downloaded Shorts (with permission), always give proper credit to the original creator.
Be Wary of Unreliable Sources: As mentioned earlier, exercise caution when choosing a downloader. Avoid suspicious websites or applications that might compromise your device's security.
Check YouTube's Terms of Service: Familiarize yourself with YouTube's terms of service regarding downloading content.
In Conclusion: Enhancing Your Short-Form Video Experience
A reliable YouTube Shorts downloader can be a valuable tool for enhancing your short-form video experience, allowing you to enjoy your favorite content offline, share it easily, and even draw inspiration from it (ethically and responsibly). By understanding the different types of downloaders available and considering the key factors for choosing a safe and effective option, you can unlock a new level of convenience in accessing and enjoying the captivating world of YouTube Shorts. Remember to always prioritize safety, respect copyright, and use these tools responsibly.
