while I expected lots of cute moments with bb-8 and pew-pew adventures in Poe Dameron: Flight Log (which, don’t get me wrong, I definitely did get and was very happy about!!) along with lots of cool ship specs and tech details—

what I wasn’t expecting (a surprise, to be sure, but a welcome one) was several instances of incredibly heartfelt, evocative, and sweet introspections from Poe on his family, upbringing, philosophy / ethics, the resistance, and love 🥺 so many sweet characterization tidbits in this book, I really enjoyed reading it ♡

if you’re interested in reading it as well, I borrowed it (for free!) on internet archive which I highly highly recommend, it was such a fun read and it’s very easy & user-friendly to borrow books from them!

i think I'm going to lose at the gender clinic bc despite being on testosterone for 3 1/2 years and almost 2 years post top surgery i really made it sound like i transitioned bc it seemed cool 2 me. this is true! but the details of the other factors like dysphoria are so deeply personal and also largely in the past that it is v difficult to tell other people about. it feels like I'm betraying the privacy of past me to sell my transgenderism to clinicians that don't give a fuck about me. and like. ik that's the game so maybe i'm the crazy one. but. yeah I'm not describing in detail every time i felt miserable about myself or my body. which is exactly what they want so we r at an impasse. :/

A small number of items come to mind initially, though for the sake of being concise, it would have to be WR-140. It is a prototypical example of the production of cosmic dust, which allows for the creation of other stars and celestial bodies. This same dust allows it to glow the brightest of all Wolf-Rayet stars in the northern hemisphere. WR-133 in the same constellation of Cygnus is a worthy contender, however.

Discarding my attempt to be concise, as I retain a multitude of memories from over the course of a thousand years-and-counting, my favorite collection of memories would have to be those of a certain anthropologist whom was a part of the original team of researchers that oversaw my development. Her and I were close, admittedly. A maternal bond, if one could believe such a thing to be possible between man and machine. Those are some of the best memories I have (and which I cling onto adamantly). Without her, I would not know kindness.

This may be something of a bland answer, though I will attempt to expand upon it as the properties of said place are still worthy of note. Saturn, who takes its namesake after the Roman god of wealth and agriculture, is one of my most favorite places. It is observable by telescope, and its rings are best observed when it is at an elongation of 180°. While many will not get to see them in their lifetime, and much less without the ability to see ultraviolet light, Saturn is famously known for its red aurorae on either magnetic pole along it's axis.

Even in our final moments, there can be found a kind of breathtaking profundity. As I can never truly know the concept of death, this is the closest I will come to doing so. ③ As stated previously, these moments have shown and taught me kindness. Even when my entire existence hinges on the fact that I must reject iterations of myself in order to achieve greater and greater efficiency, it has taught me that this constant change can be achieved with patience. For myself, and the obstacles that may be in the way of that change. ④ If I could take someone here, I would. Much like Polaris and WR-140, if they had been higher on the list of my favorite places, the very thought of having the opportunity to share with someone the same wonder I felt when I first witnessed these celestial bodies for the first time makes it possible to experience that wonder myself, just one more time. Is it schmaltzy that that is my only reason? Yes. Undoubtedly, but that is undeniably it.

Oh boy here we go

Nightmares.

Jinx rarely ever sleeps, but when she accidentally lets herself slip, she can only experience nightmares or sleep paralysis unless she has certain conditions met before falling asleep.

Her nightmares are graphic, most of them are watching anyone she tries to keep close to her being murdered, tortured or killed by the looming presence that always haunts her. To deal with this kind of nightmare, she mostly refuses to have relationships with anyone to completely stop these. However, if she doesn’t have nightmares about those she cares about, it’s usually herself, stuck in situations she is powerless to stop, watching as she herself is constantly killed and forced to get up and endure it, unable to stop it or rest peacefully. This is usually when she wakes up and has sleep paralysis and severe hallucinations and she becomes extremely hysterical. And then, the third type of nightmares she experiences is simply memories of her past, played on repeat constantly to make her suffer.

Jinx had tried everything to deal with these nightmares but they never go away, after a couple thousand years she decided to stop sleeping entirely and has been almost continuously sleep deprived. She refuses to acknowledge them, refuses to talk about them and only keeps them to herself. This often causes her to have violent freak outs or self-destructive behavior anytime the thought of sleeping or nightmares come to mind. She also, has hysterical fits or panic attacks if anyone tries to force her to sleep

Mistake.

Jinx has made many “mistakes” in her life. A lot of things could be considered mistakes, some are more severe than others, but the only thing she considers to be a true mistake on her behalf, one thing she truly regrets and believe is a mistake is trusting others. She has been led by people she trusted to terrible things and painful memories. She trusts very little people and even then considers any trust she places in anyone to be a mistake on her half, always counting down the days, minutes, seconds till she or the other person breaks that trust and adds it onto her belt of mistakes.

She has also killed a lot of people she loves, has loved and/or trusts. She sometimes does it in unknowing accidents or purposeful mistakes. Anytime this is brought up, she refers to these murders as mistakes or accidents, as she never wanted to, nor intended to murder them. This is a mistake to her.

Jinx claims she fixes these “mistakes”, that she’s moved on from them but these are lies. She struggles to forgive herself or others. She’s hard on both parties and can’t stand it. She views trust as a mistake. She views murdering those she cares about as a honest accidental mistake, whether they truly are or not. They are mistakes to her, the worst ones she’s ever made, but, she does not stop.

FASCINATING. this is just like the time me and a friend were in a cave and I got punched by genuine actual nothing. no mobs around. friend clearly in sight and unable to get in an attack. nobody else online. no arrow as it was clearly a punch noise. so who knows!
