Monstober Day 15: From Inuit folklore, the adlet, a tribe of inland people with human upper bodies and dog lower halves. They don't seem to be aggressive, though there are a few stories that claim they are cannibalistic. I based mine off of a photo of an Inuit man hunting seals. Faber-Castell brushpen, Windsor & Newton fine-line marker, and Prismacolor fine-line marker on Canson mixed media.

Guide for tormented hearts
Just some ideas I gathered for The Hunt [Ao3] and You do need a friend
Hank is Y/N's older brother and main character of The Hunt.

Hank Hunter(L/N) X Tyler Galpin
Breakfast in bed it's a whole concept, sure? But…breakfast in Tyler’s cell's bed is….unusual. The guards didn't allow Hank to step in the dangerous patients section with a bag with food.
"There's fresh toast and bacon, I'm not going to poison the guy." Hank argued. "Not even my wife gives me breakfast in bed, he's not taking it." The guard took the bag from Hank's hands while the tamer laughed. Now, he knew exactly how to persuade the guard. By the end of the week, both Tyler and the guard were having breakfast in bed.
Funnily enough, Tyler didn’t accept it at first. There was no bacon for him — the guard always stole it — but there was toast, sausage and eggs. Why was he not eating?
Hank soon figured that Tyler was suspicious; he said nothing, ate nothing, he just stared at Hank for several sessions. It was hard to earn his trust, but Hank soon discovered it was only him. Not Tyler, the sheriff's son, but Tyler, the Laurel's Hyde. The monster. The boy had two faces, two sides: two beings inside of him, fighting for control. And Hank knew how to control them.
The first time Hank spoke to Tyler, the normie one, it was sweet. Pleasant. He introduced himself — because suddenly Ty seemed to not recognize him — and told Tyler about himself. About Wednesday and Xavier. About Tyler’s mother's past and Vincent. He made sure Tyler knew he was not a monster, and neither was his mother. The Hyde was. And just like that, the Hyde took over.
Hank froze before the sudden changes of his features: before the kind gaze turning into furious red eyes; before the shy smile turning into a mischievous smirk; before Tyler transforming, not to his true self, but to a monstrous one. Hank’s eyes flashed, the curse made his stomach churn and skin burn as the Hyde stepped closer. Tyler was still human — Hank’s chemicals and syringes prevented the monster from appearing — but its personality was there. Its urges and violent delights. Hank could feel it all, and his body stiffened due to the proximity. He learned to deal with the Hyde, to drive and handle him as he wanted; but he enjoyed being with Tyler, the true Tyler. The sheriff's son and barista, who looked at Hank's breakfast with horror. Not him, not the Hyde. Still, the Hyde, for some, kept appearing for him.
Maybe Hank was the only one who could tame the beast and love the boy.

Arctic Research
I found that I’d rather pursue researching Arctic Mythology more than Travel/Touring because I can incorporate it into escapism. I found an abundance of different tales and creatures that maybe be good for a starting point in a gamifiable story. In this im going to go over some of these.
Tumblr media
Mahaha is a creature that resembles an emaciated frozen eskimo, they’re dressed in torn Eskimo clothes. Their skin are blue because of the cold and frostbite. The unique behavior about these beings are that they tickle their victims to death, the creepiest part of this is that when their victims are dead they have a smile on their face.
Tumblr media
Qallupilluk. The Qallupilluit. are said to be ocean creatures that steals children through cracks in the ice, this was often a way parents would scare their children to come inside. There’s no explanation to why they steal children. Some people say that it’s because they’re lonely. Others think it’s so they can eat them. Some variations of Qallupilluit mythology say that the child stolen will either die or turn into a mermaid to live underwater with the Qallupilluk that took them.
Tumblr media
Tariaksuq  are known as shadow people, they’re humanoid creatures associated with shadows and invisibility. It is said that, they are basically the same as any other human being. They have houses, families, weapons, tools, and more. The unique thing about this being is that they are not visible by looking straight at them. When you look directly at them they either disappear into a separate world which they occupy or they are only seen for the shadow they cast. They only become visible when they are killed.
Tumblr media
Tuniit are large humanlike beings, they’re said to be shy, and less intelligent than normal inuit people but they’re extremely strong. It is also said they’re the First Inhabitants in the arctic but were easily scared off by the dorset/inuit people. There’s research to say that they actually existed as there’s object and remnant that’ve been found. I like this because of how similar it is to the stereotype of big bodybuilders nowadays.
I don’t see the point of reciting more as they’re all in my research folder. I’d like to maybe incorporate some of these creatures and stories into today’s cultures and create a game from that. For example in the tale ‘The Giant Dog’ it’s about a man who had a giant dog that he could ride. The man who owned it had a wife, they weren’t able to have kids, so the man gave the dog an amulet that he would’ve otherwise given to his child. The dog grew so big that it ended up eating people so they had to flee to different places. A way I could implement this into a game is that I could modernize and maybe under exaggerate the story, so that it’s about a couple who can’t have kids, so they adopt a dog, the dog then could be so badly behaved that it would end up biting someone. Because the couple viewed the dog as their child they flee so the dog cant be put down, I know it’s a bad idea at the moment but maybe I’d be able to develop it into something better if I go ahead with this topic.
Because I was so interested with this topic I decided to briefly dive into current research for science in the arctic. I could then maybe couple a story with a group of researchers stumbling across these creatures. Or possibly with the melting ice caps from global warming it could  uncover these creatures.

Season 2 Predictions: Niko, Charles & Monty in the Neitherlands ; Niko & Charles' Parents
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Borrowing this shot direct from @captainfantasticalright's fantastic Niko costume design breakdown post
Tumblr media
Aurora Borealis is often associated with folklore about spirits travelling the sky.
Tumblr media
Highlighted excerpt above from here.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
In the Toby Litt/Mark Buckingham comics, the Neitherlands are a place between life and death, shown with bird bone snow (I have a theory we will see Monty bump into Niko again in season 2 in the Neitherlands like when they first met).
There's no Niko in the comics, but the combination of Hana & Rosa proxy over to Niko in the show.
Charles saves Rosa from the Neitherlands in the comics.
Charles and Niko are both shown foreshadowed with the bear, probably an allusion to Nanuk.
Walrus = Mick => Niko's costume design parka in the last scene
Aurora Borealis => Spirits of the Dead
I also have a theory that one of Charles' parents will die in season 2 and he'll see them there, like Niko will see her dad
I have a much more in-depth post on my theories about Season 2 and Afterlife Worldbuilding here.
And here's my theory on Charles' parents in season 2, based off of comic book parallels to the show that I've picked up on.
Update 1: Here's a post on some afterlife lore I scanned from a J Non-Fic book called "An Atlas of Afterlives"
Update 2: George Rexstrew Cameo reading the last two stanzas of "Sack of the Gods" by Rudyard Kipling (the last stanza of which was read in episode 1 of season 1). He did this cameo on the last day, before people could ask followup questions (and later in the week when he would have had time to get permission from higher-ups to drop hints?)
Update 3: George posted a vid of the Collar Scene with the caption "As long as the red Earth rolls <3"
Tumblr media
Update 4: George Rexstrew Cameo where someone asked about DBD International Cases (season 1 already was in America vs London) and GEORGE ANSWERED JAPAN (Niko family lore).

The Igaligdlit, or the Inuit witch ogres [Inuit mythology]
Tumblr media
Supposedly, the inland regions of Greenland are home to a wandering species of ogre-like monsters called the Igaligdlit (singular: Igalilik).
They resemble abnormally large humans and are characterized by their signature large cooking pot which they carry over their shoulders wherever they go. These creatures, or at least some of them, are highly dangerous and hunt lonely travellers for food, cooking them in their large pot. The Inuit folk hero Akiagsiak once fought one of these giants with his bare hands, and eventually managed to slay the Igalilik by crushing him against a rock, or so he boasted.
In Kivalliq, Nunavut, the Igalilik is an individual rather than a species: she is a monstrous giant woman who hunts and captures lonely travellers and cooks them in her pot before devouring their flesh. She is also said to eat children. In addition, Igalilik is a dangerous sorceress wielding powerful magic: she has the ability to cast curses.
Usually, Igalilik is depicted with her ulu knife, which is a traditional Inuk tool used for cutting and slashing. In Igalilik’s case, she uses it to slice up human flesh.

Noel unable to take it anymore, unable to deal with the fact he seemed to blink, and now his little brother was one of the most gorgeous men on this Earth.
Noel sneaking into Liam's room, be it hotel or shared houses or under their Mam's council estate. Using Liam as he pleases because the lights are down now. The telly is off. The blinds are drawn. He doesn't tell Liam he'd done it, but watches him lose his mind about it.
The next night sneaking in once again to take what he's grown to believe as his. Liam is smart now, and he reaches up this time despite the darkness and presses his fingernails into Noel's cheek.
Noel tries to cover this, tries to hide the evidence, but when Liam sees him next and sees the scratches down his cheek, down his neck, he panics. He grabs Liam, there's no time for him to run. Noel's known all along. Two souls combined, so entwined, their brotherhood, everything.
Noel and Liam so tied in each other they become the sun and the moon mgmgmgnnnngnng.....

Adding onto this is how Qallupilluit coded Cora is. Mostly is just the whole kidnapping children part, but something I rlly enjoyed was the fact that a lot of these stories about the qallupilluit disagree on if they eat the children, trap them to maintain their youth, or (my personal favorite) if they take the kiddos and raise them as their own, stolen from their families! Not to mention the fact that they typically also wear feathered amauti which reminds me of Cora’s big feather coat.
Again, this is just me being a huge ass need abt folklore and Corazon and feeling the need to smush them into a single combined interest, bug I had fun and that’s what counts bc this is MY goddamn blog
Takeaway here folks is that I would kill to have someone writing qallupilluit!Cora fanfic
Cora is soooo mètminwi coded to me.
He’s tall as hell (I mean, not mètminwi level of tall, but pretty damn tall regardless). He has red eyes (not glowing, but red is red). He has a habit of snatching up kids when they misbehave.
This one is much less concrete, but Cora also strikes me as a bit of a night owl? Not by choice, really though. More of an “oh god why did I do that embarrassing thing ten years ago it’s keeping me awake” and stress smoking past midnight deal.
Idk

PAL-RAI-YUK
In Inuit tradition, the Pal-Rai-Yuk is a water creature that lives in the estuary swamps and rivers of Alaska. It has two heads, two tails, six legs, three stomachs and a sharp ridge running along its spine. Inuit hunters would paint the image of Pal-Rai-Yuk upon their canoes before fishing in order to avoid its attentions.

Can anyone direct me to any Inuit mythology relating to ice and snow? Or in general key features about Inuit culture? I'm writing an Inuit character who has such powers and I'd like to do a good and respectful job of it, thank you!

Enjoy some of the creepiest, scariest stories from Inuit mythology. These tales are filled with childstealing ogresses; half man, half grizzly bear monsters; ice-covered polar bears ten times the size of normal bears; and a smiling creature that surprises unsuspecting campers and tickles them to death!

Monster Month: Akhlut
Google Image Search Starting off October’s monster theme, I’m going with a creature from the frozen north.  It is part of Inuit mythology and not the easiest thing to find a picture of.  To be honest, I got all of these monsters off a ‘Mythical World’ puzzle I did earlier in the year.  So, I went with as many obscure ones as I could, which made pictures and information difficult.  Still, I like a…
