So I'm listening again to Iron Flame before Onyx Storm and just came to Violet's first class with Felix.
He said she doesn't wield lighting, she wields POWER. She just chooses lighting because that's what she is more comfortable with (maybe because of her mother? Because she wants Lilith to be proud? Because her mother is the first thing she learned to correlate to power and Lilith's signet was storms?). He even mentioned that she wielded Xaden to take the riders in.
I'm not thinking about her second signet, no. What if we don't know enough about her first signet?

I can't fucking deal with ppl who insist that Xaden is white. He is literally described as tanned or brown multiple times. You can headcanon him however you want to, but you have to recognize that in canon that He. Is. Not. White.

Ships/duo names in LMK
Sooooo, there's alot of ship/duo names in lmk. So i thought, hey maybe i should compile all of them into one post! Shouldn't be too hard, right?
Haha anyways, just some things to note : most ships/duo names will have two or more names due to it being somewhat obscure ( and sometimes kinda problematic, but i'm adding it either way ). And i might've also missed some, so if you know another obscure ship or whatever, lmk in the tags or comments ^^
Most popular name used in this color
Least popular is still in black text
If there is no yellow text, then that means that either all of them are widely used or that i am not sure which one is more popular yet

Where is Ridoc fanfiction?
I want something like he is infatuated with a medic that refuses to sleep with him because they are friends, but she completely adores him and Aotrom to the point even his dragon is confused by this human that is not afraid to talk to him and pet his leg like she is hugging a human friend
I want him losing his funny facade and maybe yelling at her for something silly like her telling him she has her eyes on some other rider and Aotrom is in the back like hehehehe you are fucked mate

INTRO:
"So this is the internet you've been so obsessed with."
Yellow Jacket observes the small device. Her dainty, sharp digits scrolling through the sea of images and texts that filled the screen. Some posts had familiar faces. The same ones she fought against and also some who she had decent connections with.
"I mean yeah, you can connect with anyone on here. Even other cardbots if you're lucky."
A hand takes away the phone from her metallic claws. Fern lazily taps on the screen to check if Yellow had clicked on anything. She yawns as Yellow Jacket twitches her antennas in annoyance.
Her sleepy half-lidded eyes halted, her thin lips changing from a straight line to a cheeky smile.
"Hey... you wanna try out something new with me?"
Yellow's wings fluttered as her antennas quirked downwards. Her eyes narrowed in confusion. Her mechanical body whirrs with movement as she leans downwards to Fern's height. Taking a glance at Fern's growing smile, she couldn't help but ask:
"Just what do you have in mind?"
OOC | Main account @inkerdinker
OOC | Asks would usually be drawn in sketchy b&w ink but some may be in color depending on the interaction. Not all asks are going to be drawn depending on how busy my schedule is!
RULES:
NO NSFW! This is a kid's show and we must respect the younger audience in this fandom. I am aro/ace and will absolutely not draw NSFW or suggestive content for this blog.
Do not ship Yellow Jacket or Fern without asking! They're my characters and I decide their interactions with others. Also, do not ship either of them with men, they're lesbians.
Please be kind and appropriate. Sending hate that is not in character or any kind of vile behavior will immediately be blocked.
OCs and Canon characters are allowed! OCs must have a reference or any media in order for me to draw them accurately!
Be patient! Drawing can take some time along with IRL college work I have. Do not pressure me if I haven't answered your ask.

Im gonna give my thoughts on dd doll like I did on dd uzi where universes she becomes on after similar shenanigans I mentioned in that post prior
I like to think she’s ironically the shortest dd, she still gets a small height increase, think like a inch or 25.4 mm increase, its small but still there.
Also this ties into my post on the V and doll mirroring that I noticed in my findings that this would complete her arc in a sense in a new, horrible way
Because there is fates worse then fighting back till the end, till death.
And I believe there is a universe where it happens.
Imagine it, you’ve been fighting all your life in your head, your personal demons, managing to keep your happiness and self calm.
Then you start to have to interact with the very things that killed both your parents and the person who is currently interacting with them.
You set up a plan, your solver you learn to wield in the mean time and keeping your own oil intake up (you don’t notice that you are becoming the monster, do you? You silly, silly doll)
The plan…doesn’t go exactly as you originally envisioned sure, you assure yourself…maybe killed random classmates again..but you assure yourself it’ll all be worth it, you’ll get your revenge (diving deeper, eh Смешная девчонка?)
You manage to get yourself into more and more situations.
Then you have your usual finally confrontation with “tessa”
But this time the solver doesn’t say “I don’t think it needs you” it laughs, a laugh that goes from impersonating tessa laugh to a howling monotone giggle. It finds it so funny. So doll asks the question “what’s so funny” in her usual tone we come to expect at this point.
The solver, the same one who used parts from the proper disassembly unit that used to ensure that the worker drones who were properly deployed could be properly disposed properly.
The solver, who means of not discarding someone range from cyn. Whom either becomes like a mask she can wear and then is discarded like a old toy that gathers dust on a shelf once she’s done, forced to watch the horrors, or just becomes that outright, there was no more cyn except for a last fleeting moment after the deal went through, cyn literally becoming a mask, depending on your thoughts on solver and cyn. To the dear tessa, discarding her life, but not her skin.
It laughs and simply days
“You remind me of V”
Horrifying weight to those words, that’s your parents- (can’t even finish the thought before being interrupted
“she originally was so shy..so kind, so happy, a real bookworm humans would have said, then her personality, shifted, it was originally a mask she put on herself to deal with my antics, to deal with the things she was forced to commit, head tilt, but you saw how it became who she is now, and how hard it is for her to reclaim it, nod nod”
And the solver, calming down the flames for a brief moment, removing the light away so it shifts into its true vessel form, the cynessa look
“With all that death, you’ll be a lovely disassembler addition, you already made yourself. A monster. Let me complete it for you, smiley face”
The light goes out and doll still gets jumpscared.
Jumping to the “Absolute end” the 3 v 2 gets a surprise, a controlled and freshly turned dd doll…she’s not there, fight back occasionally popping up on her screen in her red text, but it keeps getting the boot for yellow X look, making it a 3 v 3 temporarily
After the battle, doll comes to. And the poor gal remembers it, all the fighting, what’s she has forcibly become due to the solver.
And she just…sits.
Reflecting on everything, the weight of the solvers words before being forcibly changed by it
She became like them.
No.
She became something worse.
She became a part of a scheme, she became a pawn to the solver…like the dd’s had been forced into, her vengeance mind set used as a window of opportunity for the same thing that infected her systems made her, the same thing responsibly for the dd’s existing.
And now she looked like one, worse yet, she wasn’t seemingly that tall.
She was the poster child of fighting back. The final words etched into her in the main universe’s soul.
Yet now in a vessel meant to fight, she looked like a underdog.
She was small still. Her body still changed. But…due to the bare change to her height. It makes her feel like a toy.

Where is the fanart where Violet is fuckin yolked? Yeah she's tiny but that doesn't mean all that working out hasn't effected her body. She should have the build of an mma fighter. Why does she look like a little waif? That girl has muscular thighs and you fucking know it.

Left Behind // Chapter 6: Kidnapping
Chapter 5
Ao3 Link
CW: Fae AU!Johnny MacTavish x GN!Reader, Fae!Gaz x OC (Name: Evie), Kidnapping (as said in chapter title), fashion talk, some minor anxiety, mention of drinking and being left alone at a bar, running and being chased, fear, POV changes, use of Fae glamour, debatably good Scottish dialogue
Summary: Evie comes by Birdie's flat in order to get them ready and then drags them out to a fae bar only to leave them there alone. While they're there, they find someone way too familiar and untrustworthy. In a futile attempt to get away, Birdie runs. It does not go well for them.
Author's Note: I definitely thought this chapter would be posted here earlier but that did not happen as you can see lol uhhhhh hope you enjoy and I am gonna hope I can get another chapter done this week but that is going to be debatable cause of exam week. This has been loosely inspired by Peachesofteal's Which Witch fanfic
Word Count: 3715
You were expecting Evie to come knocking on your door at any moment, considering their most recent text message to you had been regarding their arrival at your place. And you were, kind of, really, absolutely, hoping that you could convince them not to go see Gaz today. You were hoping that maybe you could get them to stay with you at your place and play board games or go shopping. Literally anything else.
However, simultaneously, you didn’t have much of a hope that you would be able to succeed in your plan. If you knew Evie, and you knew Evie, they would be as stubborn as ever about it, and they would even make you go. Which you guessed had been their original plan, but you still didn’t want them to go through with it.
You groaned and rubbed harshly at your temples. You were regretting not arguing with them more yesterday. Maybe if you had done, you wouldn’t be having to worry about this at all. You wouldn’t even have to be doing this.
Even more upsetting, at least to you, come to find out, despite the fact that you had paid for shipping to be expedited on all of your new iron-made knick knacks and things, they still wouldn’t show up to your flat for another few days.
If Soap found you again before those came in, you knew you would be screwed. You would be unable to protect yourself without those.
What definitely didn’t help was your lack of ability to stop the feeling broiling in your gut, the one that said sometime this week, you would be screwed. Your stomach churned. You wanted to vomit.
While you waited for Evie to come a knocking, you sat on your couch, phone in hand. You were getting yourself ready to tell them not to bother coming to the door. You were already typing out the message when you got one from Evie. It was them telling you not to even bother thinking about backing out because they were already at your door.
There was no backing out now. There was no getting around it. You had to go.
The next second, there was a rhythmic series of knocks on your door. They were here, outside your door. Waiting for you.
Right as you were approaching the door, your hand outstretched to the doorknob, Evie barged right in. They dragged you into one of their breath-stealing hugs, their energy contagious and infecting you. You didn’t stop your smile.
They pulled away, holding you at an arm’s length, apprising you from the top of your head to the end of your toes. Once they were done with the precursory check, they eyed you with a single purpose in their gaze and in their mind, “Did you rest like I told you to?”
“All eight hours.” You lied. The feeling of being dishonest burned through your very core, engulfing the tissues of your lungs and searing your insides with flame and ash. But you smiled through it.
They seemed to buy it well enough.
They patted your shoulders and stepped past you, coming into your living room, “Good.” They dropped some shopping bags on your couch, clothes spilling out from the tops, “Now, I went shopping yesterday, and I got you some things to try on. You ready?”
“Ev…”
“Ah, ah, ah! Don’t you ‘Ev’ me.” They wagged a finger at you, then started to rifle through the clothes they had brought, “Not unless it is in a thank you for when you are at your wedding and you’re crediting me for being the one to introduce you to the love of your life.” They selected something from one of their bags, “Here we go. Try this on.” They pushed it into your hands.
You were about to complain again but they only pinned you with a sharp look that made you run right to the bathroom without brokering any argument. You knew when to listen.
You closed the bathroom door behind you and sunk down to the floor.
For a while, you sat there, contemplating your life and staring down at the fancy button-down shirt Evie had pushed into your hands. It was nice. The fabric was silky and billowy, like something one might find the main guy wearing in an ad for cologne. It certainly looked like it might fit you just right.
You guessed it wouldn’t hurt to try on, even if you weren’t planning to go.
It had been a very long time since you wore something like that, something that nice. You guessed it was possible that you missed it. Missed the feeling.
You sighed and pulled yourself to your feet using the edge of your flat’s crappy sink. You met your own eyes in the mirror and stared. Taking in your appearance.
Jeez, you looked like shit.
Dark circles under your eyes, evidence that you hadn’t slept a wink since Evie left yesterday. Bed head, from tossing and turning, trying to think of so many ways to get them away from Gaz and to get yourself away from Soap.
Yep, you looked like shit.
You groaned and quickly ran a brush through the messy tangles, trying to get what you could under control. It helped, but only a little. You still had the dark circles.
But it was enough to get you to the point where you actually liked how the nice shirt looked on you when you pulled it on over your head.
Just to make sure of yourself, you examined the shirt and by extension, yourself, at every angle you could. You couldn’t help it. You wanted to know the shirt actually looked decent on you.
Unsurprisingly, knowing Evie’s skills, it did.
“Please tell me you didn’t shimmy down the fire escape..” Evie called through the door, knocking at the same time.
You opened the door to let them in, to see how it looked, “Nope. Still here.” You shrugged with the announcement, “Good?”
They appraised you again with a slow nod, then they reached out and turned you around in a circle. Their nodding continued, meaning they too approved, “Yeah, this is good. I like this. Comfortable?”
“More comfortable than I thought it would be.” You admitted with a shrug, fiddling with the long silky sleeves of the shirt.
They kept nodding along, “Good. Way good.” They grinned at you, “Guess we’ve found what you’re wearing for today. Cool.” They dug through their set of bags again and pulled out a pair of fancy pants, similar to the other pair that you owned. At least they took and kept your own personal preference into account when they picked these out. You were thankful for that. You were thankful for them.
You took the pair of pants and shut the door in their face. You were already examining the new pants. They were nice. Wide-legged and silky, just like the shirt was. They were in a darker color than the shirt was however. Not bad. You slipped them on and opened the door again to Evie’s waiting and expectant face.
Their eyes glided over you and they nodded one last time in appreciation, “Perfect. I have such good choices in clothing!” They clapped their hands together and ushered you back into the bathroom, standing you in front of the mirror, “Okay, now just to do your hair.”
“Evie!” You cried out as the door shut and the torture began. At least you now had more time to convince them not to make you go.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
You had been so sure you would be successful. You wanted to be successful, at least in convincing Evie not to make you go on this ‘double date’, as they liked to refer to it as. At the very least, you had been sure you could’ve stalled for enough time to make the two of you late and made them cancel it entirely. You had so much hope for yourself.
You had been wrong. You were wrong. You were so very wrong.
Wrong in the way that no matter how adamant you were about not going and never again going to any fae-run or fae-established or fae-created places, somehow, Evie had gotten inside one. They had even gotten a drink into your hand.
You had no clue how it had happened, only that the last thing you remembered was them directing you to stand by the bar with your drink and wait. They stuffed you in between a bored looking woman in a knee-length dress and a gruff man nursing a whiskey and told you to stay put.
You had no clue how long you had stood there for (and you really didn’t even want to attempt guessing), but they had been gone long enough for the woman to approach the man, for the two to hit it off, and for the man to go home with the woman.
You didn’t like it. You hadn’t liked the idea of you just standing there in the middle of a fae bar with a fae-made drink in your hands when Evie had suggested it, and you didn’t like it even when it was happening. The whole situation of it made your skin itch with something fierce.
But nonetheless, you stayed.
You didn’t want to risk leaving Evie all alone in an unfamiliar situation, in a bar run by the fae, surrounded by nothing but the fae themselves. You couldn’t help but think of every single bad thing and every bad ending to this that could transpire.
Thus, you were scanning the crowd, watching as so many, too many, every single face in there was changing, features distorting and changing and coming in and out of focus. It was horrible. Especially as all the faces, every single one of them, shared the same features. The same perfect teeth and the same inhuman eyes that glittered with mischievous energy. They all looked familiar, yet they were also the faces of a hundred strangers, all at once. All of them made you want to vomit, your head hurt so much.
You had to keep your gaze moving, lest your head continue to ache because you focused on one Fae too long.
That was a mistake.
It was through the way your constantly moving gaze that your eyes met his.
So blue, they outshined all others, even in the dim lighting of the bar.
So blue, they reminded you of a distant ocean, maybe even a cloudless sky on a sunny day.
So blue, they were unforgettable.
And there was no way of forgetting them.
Nor was there any way you would forget the Fae they belonged to, with his strong nose and scruffy brown mohawk.
After all, it seemed that rather recently, he was everywhere you were. And not in a good way. In a way that made your heart race and in a way that made goosebumps raise across your skin, especially with how his intent gaze pricked across you.
There was no possible way of you ignoring him, but there were ways you could get away. You had to find a way. You had to escape. There was no way you were prepared for a confrontation with an angry Fae like this.
You really couldn’t wait for those iron bits and bobs to come in. Just a few more days of waiting.
Somehow, before you could even realize, you were moving swiftly, cutting through the crowded bar like a knife through butter. Half of you may have been on the hunt for any sign of Evie in the crowd, but the other half was determined to find an exit. Just some way of getting an escape from him.
You willfully ignored the disgruntled grumbles and complaints of dancing Fae and mortals as you ducked and weaved past the shifting faces. You were too focused on the one exit you could see; a door labeled exit off on one of the side walls.
The only worry you had was for Evie.
Since this was so obviously a trap meant for the sheer goal of catching you off guard. You were sure it was meant to capture you.
What you weren’t sure about was what had been done to Evie to ensure that you were alone and ripe for the taking. He had probably had Gaz take them and hide them somewhere.
You had known it was a bad idea for them to get involved with Gaz. It was always a bad idea to get involved with the Fae, in any capacity.
You were mentally lamenting your inability to convince them when you pushed through the side door. You looked to both sides and then booked it down the alleyway at the fastest your legs could carry you.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Soap’s POV
Johnny couldn’t believe his luck, and not in the good way. He couldn’t believe that he had found you amongst the crowd of the bar, only to lose you yet again five minutes later in an empty alleyway. Finding you in the first place had been a miracle in and of itself.
He had known very well that Gaz’s pet was planning on bringing you along, but he hadn’t been very sure of how easy it was going to be for him to find you.
Apparently that was where his luck looked up, even if only for a mere moment.
He had even thought so when he saw you across the crowd of his kin. He didn’t even need the oh so familiar pull that usually alerted him for your presence to find you. You had actually stuck out in the crowd. A spell you had cast, obviously.
But he had to admit, it was working for you. He had been simply unable to take his eyes off of you, and that wasn’t just due to his need to track you everywhere you went.
But if you were willing to cast such a potent spell in the presence of so many Fae, then who knew what else you would be so bold to do to get your way…
He had to stop you. If not for himself, then for others. Mostly for himself though. He was still under your influence, after all.
When you spooked and started moving, he followed, making sure to keep as close to you as he possibly could.
Unfortunately in a crowded bar scene such as that one, that wasn’t very possible. With how close his kin were packed together, dancing, he was forced to lag behind you by quite a few feet. Which gave you ample time to get out the bar’s side door and make your escape down the alleyway. It ensured that you could disappear without him ever seeing which direction you went in.
Which is what you had indeed done by the time he had gotten out to the alley himself. He groaned and dug his hands into his hair, pulling at his mohawk, “Damn the Great Courts!” He cursed, looking back and forth down either sides of the alleyway.
Nothing.
Not one sight of you.
He was turning to go back inside and give up on ever finding you again when he felt that pull, the ever so familiar one that connected the both of you. The one that had led him astray so many times before. The one he was loathe to trust.
And yet, he still followed it.
He chased the pull on his soul down the alley and around the corner, twisting and turning through the city until he finally spotted you. You had just ducked yourself around another corner. You seemed utterly oblivious to him tailing behind you. It made you sloppy. Lucky him.
His hopes rose again. Maybe he could finally catch you. Another step closer to no longer being in your thrall. One step closer to being free.
He almost started giggling manically at the thought, but he knew that would give him away. He couldn’t risk it. Not when he had just found you. Not when he was so close.
Oh, how the tables had turned. Now, he was hiding from you, desperate to keep you close and in his sights.
Luckily for him, you came to a stop just around the corner to catch your breath.
He watched as you bent over, hands on your knees, panting. He leaned against the wall, also trying to catch his breath. It wasn’t abnormal for him to run out of breath. It wasn’t normal either, but it did happen sometimes. He was glad it didn’t happen more often, like you and the other humans. Unlike you, who was gasping for breath to fill your lungs. Also unlike you, he was purposefully keeping himself quiet as he caught his breath. He couldn’t risk being found out now, not when he was so so so close to having you in his clutches.
As you were still catching your breath, he began to creep forward, closer and closer to you.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Reader’s POV
You were sure you were far enough from the bar. You were sure you had made yourself a successful escape. You were sure he wouldn’t be able to find you.
For the first time in forever, you allowed yourself to feel the rush of relief as it flooded your system and you laughed breathlessly.
It only lasted a minute before you were bent over your knees again, out of breath and trying to catch it again.
Your mistake.
You didn’t even…You didn’t even hear him approach. Not until it was too late. He had already grabbed you and pulled your back to his chest.
In your utter shock, your eyes flew to meet his crystalline blue ones. Your gasp escaped before you could help it.
His grin was smug. He was proud of himself, like all Fae tended to be. He was maybe even a little too happy about it for your liking.
You opened your mouth. To scream for help or to shout at him or to beg for mercy, you weren’t sure what you were trying to accomplish.
But he covered your mouth before any sound could come slipping out. He tutted and shook his head, leaning down to mock you in your own ear, “Ye, my most delightful witch, have been very difficult tae find. Put me on my toes and ran me quite fuckin’ ragged.” He pressed his hand harder over your mouth, “Fuckin’ pain in me arse, ye are.”
Your heart pounded so hard in the cavity of your chest, you might have been convinced you were having a heart attack. But you weren’t.
You started desperately trying to fight against him, clawing at his bulky arms. But he only tightened them around your shoulders, pressing you even tighter to his chest.
You tried to scream again. His hand tightened around your mouth, silencing you.
“Ah, sod off an be quiet. Ye’ll be fine. Nae like Ah can hurt ye, now can Ah? Ye made quite sure of tha’ a year ago.” He started dragging you down the alleyway, like you were a mere dead weight to him.
You tried kicking your feet in the air, at his legs, into his stomach, wherever you could reach. You were desperate. You were sure he was going to kill you. He was going to make an example of you, you just knew it. Show what happens to mere mortals that piss off the Fae.
You screamed into his hand, tears budding in your eyes.
Someone had to hear you.
Someone.
Anyone
Please.
Maybe if you fought him enough, you could get him to let you go, or just to drop you.
Anything to get away.
You had to get away.
Finally, through some miracle, he let you go. Maybe you scratched him enough. Maybe you kicked him just right. Whatever it was, you didn’t question it.
You just ran.
You ducked around another corner, not chancing a look over your shoulder. You were too afraid to find him gaining on you. You couldn’t chance it.
So you just kept running.
And running.
And running.
The only thing you were thinking about was how you had to get away. You had to disappear.
But whatever turns you took, he mimicked. Same for whatever evasive manoeuvres you tried. If you turned right, he turned right. If you jumped a trash can, he jumped the same trash can.
No matter where you went, he followed.
It was like all of your worst nightmares combined into one singular terrorfest.
In fact, you almost thought you were dreaming.
Except, every time you pinched yourself in the arm, no matter how desperately you did it, you didn’t wake up. All it did to you was give you pain in your arm.
What really scared you was how his footsteps matched the pounding of your heart, harder and faster than before. You were absolutely sure he was gaining on you.
You reached forward to grab something, anything to hit him with and delay him, but a pair of strong and way too familiar arms grabbed you around the waist and hoisted you high into the air. A large hand was quick to cover your mouth again, smothering any more screams you might have had in you.
You tried kicking again, but he was prepared. He grabbed your legs and held them still with his free arm, wrenching them to your chest, “Great Courts, ye are really squirmin’ there. Jus cannae stand being caught, can ye?” He scoffed, “Well, ye willnae have a need tae worry bout tha’ anymore. Not when Ah’m done wit ye.”
It was like ice cold water had been shot directly into your veins. He had only confirmed your deepest worries and suspicions.
He was going to kill you. He was going to make an example of you. You were so dead and you just wished you knew how he was planning on doing it. You couldn’t help but have a hope to convince him otherwise. But you also knew it wouldn’t be possible. Not with him.
You were dead and you knew it.
Unfortunately for you, that was your last thought before your heart rate slowed, followed by your breathing, then finally, everything went black.

Huh. Actually -- since I'm stuff home sick and my brain refuses to shut up and let me sleep -- apropos of reblogging @superhelltubedotsys' post citing Barbatos Lupus Rex's status as a werewolf Gundam, I'm now thinking about the significance that has within Iron-Blooded Orphans (some spoilers follow).
Because Barbatos the demon has no association with wolves in the Ars Goetia. The nearest applicable part is "He giveth understanding of the singing of Birds, and of the Voices of other creatures, such as the barking of Dogs", which is fitting for Mikazuki and plays into the comparison between mobile armour Hashmal and a bird, but pointedly does not imply 'appears as a giant fuck-off wolf monster with a knife-tail'. That description would seem more appropriately applied to Amon, the immediately prior demon, number seven: "He appeareth like a Wolf with a Serpent’s tail, vomiting out of his mouth flames of fire . . ."
But of course, Gundam Barbatos' steady revision towards the Lupus Rex form is a drift away from its initial design. Exactly how much influence the Ars Goetia descriptions had on the Gundam project and how much they were just used as a naming convention is a little up in the air. Some do seem to be applicable (Zagan being a 'bull with gryphon wings', Flauros switching between the forms of a leopard and a man, etc.). Others . . . well, Bael is supposed to appear as either a toad, a cat, or a man, or all three at once, and while that has some applicability to McGillis' whole deal, it's not really a match for Gundam Bael's angelic form. Nor do the Gundam's abilities evoke demon!Bael's power to render someone invisible. However, I think we can safely conclude that, in-universe at least, the goetic demons are only pertinent to the Gundams' initial appearances and capabilities.
Barbatos' revisions throughout Season 1 are instead a gradual cannibalisation of various different sources of technology and weapons to get it back into fighting shape (Teiwaz technically restores it to its original appearance, but that doesn't last past the Dort arc; thereafter, we're back to bolting on any spare armour going). Barbatos Lupus then represents a significant step towards redefining it in line with the Chief's goal of creating an 'ultimate' version based on Mika's battle data, with Barbatos Lupus Rex being the end-point for that progression.
Put simply, Barbatos gradually becomes more and more tailored to Mikazuki, specifically. To digress for a moment, this forms a big part of my reasoning that Mika being able to use the katana properly at the climax of Season 1 represents the influence of Barbatos' original pilot; after this, he ditches that kind of weapon entirely. Even while fighting Hashmal, he reaches for the biggest club available (technically, a broad-sword, but so ridiculously huge nobody could call it a precision weapon). It's another interesting detail that Mika can't beat Ein in their final face-off by fighting like himself, which comes back around again as the back half of Season 2 kicks into gear.
Anyway, my point is this: being a werewolf is not inherently part of Barbatos' deal. Rather it represents Mikazuki's growing influence -- as you might thematically expect for a union with a character named after the moon (crescent moon, specifically, though I can't imagine the association wasn't intended given Tekkadan are wolf-coded in the text). And that's fascinating because as I've written about before, Barbatos and Mikazuki are the most blatant example of a devil's bargain in the show. The kid literally sells and arm and a leg (and an eye) for the power Barbatos can give him. And yet, the bestial aspects Barbatos takes on are rooted in Mika.
There's an echo of Gundam Wing's 'Gundams are a curse' refrain in IBO. These machines bring bad luck to everyone who pilots them, as a function of representing humanity subsumed by war. The inherent gamble of the Alaya-Vijnana, the overwhelming nature of the conflict they were built to end, the fact Gundams are never sufficient on their own to change the world -- it forms an unspoken counter-argument to McGillis' zealous faith in their status as symbols of transformation that is actually very in keeping with the demonological tradition from which they take their names. What they offer is costly and potentially damning, while also largely illusory when it comes to anything other than utter destruction. Indeed, Mikazuki is a living testament to how 'cursed' their pilots are.
It just happens that he was able to curse Barbatos back.
Because that's what Barbatos Lupus Rex is, isn't it? Put side by side with its original form, this is a clear degradation of a proud warrior into a savage beast. The same design elements persist, of course, yet by the end, it's near impossible to picture Barbatos as an elegant fighter making precision strikes with a honed sword. It has become a true berserker, tearing into its opponents with teeth and claws (well, claws and knife tail). As Tekkadan in general tend to, Mikazuki strips away the affectations of nobility and 'honourable' warfare in favour of brutal reality.
The detail of the Lupus Rex form merging parts of a mobile armour into a Gundam only heightens this. Weapons are weapons, whoever they serve and whatever guise they wear. Mikazuki is always honest about that. His awed response to Hashmal is of a piece with how easily he fits within Barbatos. He sees himself as equivalent to them -- has, in fact, constructed his entire identity around being so.
Thus, the lycanthropy he inflicts on Barbatos is of a kind that merely reveals the truth lurking under the skin. It was always an instrument of devastation. Now it looks the part.
#gundam iron blooded orphans#gundam ibo#tekketsu no orphans#g tekketsu#gundam#gundam barbatos#barbatos#more rambling#at some point I will get around to finishing that essay about the meaning of Gundams in this show#and putting that in context of the rest of the franchise

In your post on 10 August you correctly pointed out how often the violence under the Ancien Régime gets always overlooked and you mentioned the Beast of Gévaudan, the deliberate repressions by Louis XIV or Louis XVI, the repression of the Flour War. What happened during these events?
Warning: Regarding the case of the Beast of Gévaudan, there are some shocking elements related to the criminal investigation. So, please refrain from reading if you feel uncomfortable with this. Sensitive souls should refrain from reading this part of text. I want to mention that I am not very knowledgeable about the Ancien Régime, so feel free to correct or add to what I say (especially regarding the Flour War).
Dragonnades under the reign of Louis XIV to force Protestants to convert to Catholicism ( The engraving dates from 1686 and is by Engelmann, Les nouveaux missionnaires)
Ah, here we are again, discussing the Ancien Régime. There are many things to say (some of which are positive; we should also fight against the demonization, but I will limit myself to starting with the period under Louis XIV rather than Henri IV).
Louis XIV, what can be said? Well, ironically, if we want to better study the issues that led to the Revolution, it starts with him (in my eyes). I will quickly touch upon his reign and the reasons why he wanted an absolute regime (due to the trauma he experienced as a child during the trials he endured during the Fronde, under the regency of his mother and Cardinal Mazarin). One day, I came across a phrase on a forum that I found revealing about the reigns of Louis XIV, Louis XV, and Louis XVI. It said something like, "Louis XIV creates the debt, Louis XV manages it and passes it on to his successor (Louis XVI), who, due to his character and actions, causes the Revolution to break out." Although reality is more complex, I think this phrase aptly describes the origin of the massive debt of the Kingdom of France.
His wars financially drained the kingdom of France, showing that, in reality, wars of conquest can be more harmful than beneficial due to their expenses, especially if the territories do not bring in revenue (at least when Tsar Peter the Great waged war against the Turks, it was to gain access to the Sea of Azov for long-term commercial purposes). By the end of his reign, the state was financially ruined, all due to excessive conquests and wars that could have been avoided. Let's not even talk about horrific episodes like the Sack of the Palatinate in 1689 and how he alienated foreign powers. Here’s what Voltaire had to say on the subject: "This beautiful country was ravaged under Louis XIV for the second time; but the flames with which Turenne had burned two towns and twenty villages in the Palatinate were mere sparks compared to this final conflagration. Europe was horrified. The officers who carried it out were ashamed to be the instruments of such cruelties" (excerpt from The Age of Louis XIV).
This led to several revolts due to the increasing tax burden, the most notable of which was in Brittany. It is important to note something about Brittany and taxes. In 1491, Duchess Anne of Brittany married Charles VIII. France then annexed the Duchy of Brittany, but in return, Brittany retained a fiscal system specific to the former duchy, and no additional levies could be imposed without the agreement of this former duchy.
Louis XIV violated this fiscal exception and increased taxes as part of his war against Holland. This led to what would be called the Revolt of the Red Bonnets in Brittany, and across France (as there were other zones of insurrection like Grenoble, Bordeaux, Pau, Besançon), it would be known as the Stamp Paper Revolt in 1675, triggered by the ever-growing misery of the population. The revolt in Brittany was the most significant, with castles being attacked and uprisings against their lords. On July 2, the rebels demanded the abolition of seigneurial abuses, among other things, and proclaimed a Peasant Code, which included a series of texts, some of which apparently echoed aspects of the grievance lists of 1789.
The repression in Brittany was brutal. Six thousand men were sent to crush the rebellion. There were hangings, and some were sent to the galleys. The body of one of the leaders, Le Balp, was exhumed to be desecrated. Other leaders were tortured before being executed. The suburb of Saint-Malo was deemed too rebellious.
In October 1675, the city experienced violence, apparently at the hands of Louis XIV’s troops. Residents of certain streets were expelled to the point where the Marquise de Sévigné wrote, "Do you want to know the news from Rennes? An entire large street was driven out and banished, with the threat of death if they were taken in, so that one could see all these miserable people—old men, women who had just given birth, children—wandering in tears as they left the city." On February 5, 1796,
In his absolute control, Louis XIV sought to annihilate any rebellion. Under Louis XIV, there were 40,000 deserters, Protestants, counterfeiters, and salt smugglers condemned to the galleys, which was a horrific ordeal.
For criticizing absolutism, the theologian and tutor of the king’s grandson, Fénelon, fell out of favor. To better eliminate any opposition, a new position of Lieutenant General of Police was created in Paris, tasked with not only surveillance but also reforming justice to extend cases that could be judged directly by the King’s judges. During the inquisitorial process, the investigation was secret (which, as a law student, I admit can have both positive and negative aspects) and confessions were extracted, including through the use of torture (terrifying and horrible).
The Code Noir of 1685 authorized and even justified slavery with the goal of increasing the production of mineral and agricultural wealth.
The Edict of Nantes, which had allowed Protestants to live in peace, was revoked by Louis XIV. This led to the "dragonnades," a method in which "dragons," or royal soldiers, were forcibly quartered in the homes of Protestants considered heretics, using all possible means to force them to convert. I can hardly imagine the brutalities committed in the homes of these victims to obtain so many abjurations from the Protestants so that these soldiers would leave.
When Louis XIV died, he was deeply unpopular. Misery was widespread, and the peasant class could barely survive. In the event of climatic accidents, famine and mortality rates were extremely high, particularly in 1694 and 1709.
It is easy to see that the seeds of the Revolution were already being sown under Louis XIV. In 1694, there was the Red Bonnets uprising, and barely a century later, the Revolution and the overthrow of the monarchy, and the uprising of the slaves. We can clearly see where the first seeds of the Revolution began to germinate.
The fight of Marie-Jeanne Vallet, known as the “Maid of Gévaudan”, against the beast. Sculpture by Philippe Kaeppelin.
Now we come to the case of Louis XV, and one example that struck me the most about the dysfunction of the country is the affair of the Beast of Gévaudan (though there are many others, and more important ones). This remains one of the most mysterious criminal cases that has never been solved. However, this example highlights another dysfunction of the Ancien Régime beyond slavery, famine, religious intolerance, and repression. It is simply the issue of security in the face of the crime that the lower class suffers in certain areas.
France had just come out of the Seven Years’ War (an extremely deadly conflict), relatively defeated by England and financially ruined. The incident took place in the county of Gévaudan (which is in the province of Languedoc). The area included the Margeride, a difficult-to-access region with mountain ranges and marshes. In Gévaudan, life was harsh, predominantly populated by peasants; life was very tough, life expectancy was very short, children started working very early, and the peasant class primarily sought to survive.
But it’s the problem of crime that will be highlighted here (so I won’t go into too much detail about the affair of the Beast of Gévaudan). However, it’s necessary to explain this criminal case to better understand what follows. This case is complex, and the aim is not to explain it fully but rather to show the attitude of King Louis XV’s government, which tends to indicate what could be called willful criminal negligence. Therefore, the mystery of the Beast of Gévaudan is quickly summarized, and if you’re interested in understanding the case from an "investigative" perspective, you won’t find it here (it would take at least two to three pages), especially for suspects and theories explaining this mystery.
It all began in June 1764. A shepherdess living in Langogne was attacked by a beast. She owed her life to the cows that charged to protect their calves. The most striking thing is that the beast completely ignored the cows to focus solely on her. She survived, but it was the beginning of a long series of attacks. The beast was described as a wolf with a black stripe down its back (even today, it’s unclear whether it was a dog or a wolf). This was surprising because the inhabitants were always close to wolves, and no attacks had been recorded.
The beast went on to claim several victims, some of whom were horrifically devoured alive in front of helpless witnesses. Some survivors were scarred for life, and several children died.
Initially, King Louis XV took the matter very seriously: he sent one of his close associates, François Antoine, and enormous resources were employed. However, when the beast was not conspicuously absent, bullets seemed to bounce off it, or it got back up (one of the reasons for speculating that the beast had been trained by a human, as the black stripe could have come from a boar’s hide used as a protective cuirass against pistol bullets). Very questionable means (to put it mildly) will be used such as poisoning the corpses so that the Beast of Gévaudan eats it and poisons itself. But it doesn't work. Then, on September 20, 1765, François Antoine (or one of his aides) killed the beast. Witnesses and survivors of the attacks confirmed it was the Beast of Gévaudan (about twenty of them). However, it had killed on the other side of the river, where it had not been very active. Despite this, Louis XV declared that the affair was over and that the Beast of Gévaudan had been killed. And yet, after a period of calm due to the winter (when herds were less exposed), the attacks resumed with even greater intensity in the spring, with more and more victims. The attacks were concentrated mainly in the Margeride.
This is where we see the indifferent side of the Ancien Régime. For the monarchy, which had been ridiculed by the Beast of Gévaudan, the matter was closed. Officially, the Beast of Gévaudan had been killed, and with censorship in place, there was no mention of other attacks by the beast after 1765. On gravestones, it was now forbidden to say that a victim had been killed by the Beast of Gévaudan. There would be no more assistance, and the inhabitants were left to fend for themselves. One must be cautious, but we can speak of willful criminal negligence: to save face, the monarchy pretended to ignore the deadly attacks and even censored news about the affair. Fortunately, the Marquis d’Apcher continued to organize hunts to kill the beast at his own expense. But his resources were not those of a state and therefore very limited. The attacks officially ended in June 1767. A man named Jean Chastel ended the Beast’s life under strange circumstances (I don’t want to accuse deceased people with little evidence; it’s just that some facts make him seem suspicious, while others exonerate him, especially since in those superstitious times, he was looked down upon for reasons we’d find foolish today. For example, he apparently didn’t attend church much, although when Marie Danty, a 12-year-old girl with whom he was friendly, was devoured alive, he began attending church and had his bullets blessed. He could read and write, which was rare for someone of the lower class, and he was allegedly the son of a healer, whom some called a witch. On the other hand, when Marie Danty died, he swore he would be the one to kill the Beast of Gévaudan, and according to some witnesses, when the beast saw him, it simply sat down, whereas when it was present, it wouldn’t let itself be caught. Moreover, its black stripe had disappeared, although survivors had said it had one. However, I ask that we avoid making accusations against Jean Chastel out of respect for his descendants, while there is a high probability that he is innocent , we cannot make accusations without evidence).
Another frightening aspect of France in this affair is that not all the crimes were committed by the Beast of Gévaudan. It’s clear that at least several murderers committed acts that were blamed on the Beast, especially considering how some victims were killed. In fact, Margeride was notorious for its lack of security, its criminality, and the maréchaussée (mounted police) had only just been established, with many brigands or worse. The last crime attributed to the Beast of Gévaudan was actually committed by a human who killed a woman, Marianne Thomas, in 1777. The woman, in her agony, said it was the Beast. But in reality, it was a man disguised as the Beast, wearing fur, who had committed the crime. So, in addition to famine, it seems that the Ancien Régime either did not want to or failed to ensure that the maréchaussée was effective in protecting the lower class.
Another negative aspect of Louis XV’s regime was the continued religious fanaticism. During the attacks of the Beast of Gévaudan, some believed the beast was the result of divine punishment for the inhabitants’ sins (another theory said that the beast of Gévaudan was suckling a werewolf and that silver bullets were needed to kill it) . There was the infamous case of Calas, where a father was tortured to death because he was Protestant, accused on very doubtful, if not nonexistent, evidence. Then there was the affair of the Chevalier de la Barre, in which a young nobleman was tortured and executed for the crime of blasphemy (desecration of a crucifix) and it seems that it was not sure if it was him who did that, not to mention the sect of the White Penitents in Toulouse, who were a model of intolerance at that time. Additionally, the Church owned at one point 6% of the land in the Kingdom of France and profited from it, while the state coffers did not benefit. Not to mention other legitimate criticisms that could be made against the Church.
Anne Robert Jacques Turgot (French school, Palace of Versailles) (1727-1781)
Finally, here is the Flour War under Louis XVI. Ironically, the minister at the heart of these events was the most competent of Louis XVI’s ministers. Turgot is considered, in a way, a reformer (in fact, part of the nobility hated him for this), but also a liberal. There was much speculation because the monarchy was stockpiling grain. Turgot instead decided to impose the free circulation of grain. However, the poor harvests of 1773 and 1774 led to a significant increase in prices. This further deepened the misery of the peasants, as bread was their staple food. Consequently, riots broke out, with bakeries being looted and grain stocks seized. In response, 25,000 soldiers were deployed, leading to 548 arrests and the execution by hanging of two rioters: a 28-year-old wigmaker and a 16-year-old boy guilty of kicking a bakery door. The execution of these two scapegoats shocked the crowd.
So, my opinion on Turgot is that he was one of Louis XVI’s most competent ministers and the one who, among all his successors, had the people’s best interests at heart. But he was neither a political genius nor an engaged man like the revolutionaries who would take over after the Ancien Régime (at least many of them). I’m going to deliberately provoke by saying that if he was in the most committed political class concerning the Absolute Monarchy, he would likely have been on the far right during the French Revolution (though less conservative than Necker, for sure). But I’m probably being unfair because he died before we could know what he would have done, knowing that he didn’t play a false role as a friend of the people like Necker did, but rather acted more in favor of reforms, unlike the latter.
However, I must point out, in defense of Louis XV and Louis XVI, that absolutism had its limits in the form of the Parliaments, and they had to delegate certain powers to the Parliament. Yet, the Parliament opposed some necessary reforms for the people to ensure that the nobility could maintain its privileges while pretending to be friends of the poor people (we can clearly see where Necker learned this attitude).
P.S: I didn't mention the repression following the Reveillon affair, due to the events of April 26 to April 28, 1789 as it wasn't ask.

Hii there! Sorry to be a pain in the arse, but please can you edit your text post about Imogen's second signet. The small text looks awesome, but I can't read it very well with my eyes, even with my glasses on. I have double vision so all I'm seeing is interlapping lines 😭 so sorry xx
As requested :-)

Onyx Storm
— Ending Theory #2 —
MAJOR SPOILERS!!!
Question/Theory (2): How did Imogen save Dain & herself? — Does Imogen have a Second Signet? — Here’s why I think she does & what I think it is:
"You have a second signet, don't you?" And like Xaden, he hid the strongest one. — Violet Sorrengail to Garrick Tavis, Chapter 11
This shows the pre-existing patterns/plans of the children of the rebellion (even more so; their dragons) hiding the strongest “weapons” they have.
While Imogen’s known signet is pretty powerful as is, this doesn’t count against the theory, as much like Xaden shows the “known” signet can be nearly just as powerful as the unknown (so it’s not like a contest of “topping it” in a manner that she could not).
It is also something they hide no-matter what (not purely as a “secret weapon”) but because having two signets goes against the rules & endangers them all in itself.
This does get further complicated in some cases (such as Xaden; where his need for hiding his signet is also out of the signet itself being a death sentence). Though it does beg the question of who (if anyone) knows about Imogen’s second signet?.. and what that may mean for the power level of whatever it is?.. I’m willing to bet it’s closer to a Garrick situation than a Xaden, as Dain does witness it (& while this was not the goal) it did not seem to be a death sentence (nor something she needed to take the time to make him forget)… Though the biggest question still stands of what is allowed and whatever that means in terms of the “magical balance” of their nature demands… posing the question:
How many of the same signets can exist on the same side? What is “the balance”? And is there such a thing as “signet-gaps”?
"At its core magic demands balance." — Chapter 60 Prologue (Iron Flame)
Time and time again this is said… but what does it really mean?
"There is only one exception to the rule, Violet Sorrengail. Imagine my surprise when it turned out to be you." — Theophanie to Violet Sorrengail, Chapter 60
When Theophanie tells Violet she is "the only exception" to “the rule”… this could very well be due to the anomaly of a shadow & lightning wielder being alive at the same time (two shadows, one per side, and one lightning total) however (unless I missed something which I very may well have) I presume it meant/hinted at something more.
Such as there being a “counter” or “Dark-Wielder-self” per signet we know.
"I think you exposed your desperation with your once-a-century comment. You need me." "Another will come along," she warns. "You are not special." — Violet Sorrengail to Theophanie, Chapter 60
Violet may not be “the only one” or special as much as she is rare, but there is some balance the world is waiting on in what it allows to occur at one time.
"My signet is always the balance," Bodhi argues, lifting his hand as the wind rises to a constant roar at our backs. "I can stop her!" "You can't!" I push again, and this time he stumbles sideways. "Your signet must only work on our magic, not theirs." — Bodhi Durran to Violet Sorrengail, Chapter 60
Despite Bodhi’s power; it shows it is not him. He is not the balance… or at least not theirs… Much like how magic doesn’t work on dragons, there is a difference within the Venin; and whatever that all does to the “rules of magic”. He cannot be the counter for them all… so what is (if Violet is the only un-countered signet)?
"She isn't the dark wielder version of you." — "She's their answer to my mother." — "She was the answer to me,". — Bodhi Durran, Violet Sorrengail, & Theophanie, Chapter 60
This notes "the answer" from both sides. And that “magic balance” I’m speaking of… it seems like a similar structure to how signets are formed around need (Xaden needs to know who to trust = he can read intentions, Violet is desperate to speak to a sleeping Andarna = she can dream-walk) there is a storm-wielding Venin = Lilith Sorrengail the storm-wielding General.
"That's not possible," Imogen says. I turn around, reaching for a dagger, and freeze completely. Lynx stands in the middle of the hallway, shaking from head to foot, staring at the darkness that envelops his hands. "It's all right." Rhiannon rushes to Lynx's side. "Breathe. You're just..." "Manifesting," Xaden says, putting himself in front of Lynx. "Don't be scared. They're defending you. Fear. Anger. Whatever it is, level out your emotions, and they'll recede." Manifesting? Shadows? "I can't—" Lynx shakes his head, and the shadows creep up his arms. "You can," Xaden assures him. "Close your eyes and think of the place you feel safest. Go ahead." Lynx slams his eyes shut. "Good job. Now breathe deeply and picture yourself there. Calm. Happy. Safe." Xaden watches as the shadows recede. Lynx's breaths even out, and his hands reappear. "Get him to Carr now," Xaden orders Rhiannon, and she nods. The squad ushers Lynx down the hall, but I stay behind, shock gluing my feet to the carpet. "I don't understand. You're our generation's shadow wielder." "Not anymore. Magic knows." Xaden's shoulders dip as he turns slowly to face me, his brow scrunching in apology before he schools his features. "He's the balance." — Xaden Riorson to Violet Sorrengail & friends, Chapter 46
Something that appears to shock everyone; Imogen included… while this may have simply been the shock of shadows, or a fear of an attack, or even a rapidly turning Xaden, etc. it doesn’t change the fact they are all shocked… which implies some of these “once in a century” skills are very unknown in what the world of magic “allows” (especially when already intentionally “breaking the rules” as their dragons seem to be doing in choosing them).
"Heads up," Garrick says, and we both look forward as a first-year with a rebellion relic steps into the pit with Timin Kagiso-the newly promoted wingleader for Second Wing. "Let's try to keep anyone else from burning." Go figure another fire wielder was Second Wing's executive officer when Aura died. — Garrick Tavis to Violet Sorrengail, Chapter 28
Finally, the note that there are known multiples of signets (for-instance) flame-wielders as shown above. And the possibility that they switch out upon death?..
And in many other moments it is shown that signet “categories” can be vastly unique & frankly complicated… for instance the world of Intinnsics. While true intinnsics are killed, truth-sayers are not. Along with many other signets in the “mind-category” that skirt the edge (or don’t fully encompass) that which would get them killed, while being highly classified and quite similar to that of “full intinnsics” (like Xaden & Violet; who also have powers that take very different forms despite both being kinds of intinnsics; key word “kinds”) as very much seen in the spectrum of “minds” between Imogen, Dain, and Varish’s abilities.
We are also shown some signets that did appear at the same time (even if we didn’t know it) this may possibly be due to the rebellion relics or the fact they are second signets but it does occur; for instance Liam & Ridoc (both are ice-wielders).
"Are you pissed I didn't tell you?" I shake my head. "You don't owe me your friends' secrets." My brow knits. "But twenty hours of flying gave me some time to think. You. Garrick." I tilt my head. "And I once thought I saw Liam..." "—Wield ice," Xaden says, stroking his thumb along my chin. I nod. "How often do second signets accompany these particular relics?" My fingers trail down the side of his neck. "Often enough to be sure Kaori can't possibly have accurate records, but not too completely that anyone questions why I only present with one," he answers. "Our dragons came looking for us. They knew what they were doing." "Giving you a better chance of survival?" I rest my hand over his heart. "If you wax sentimental. More like building their own army." A corner of his mouth rises. "More signets equal more power." — Xaden Riorson to Violet Sorrengail (in reference to the rebellion), Chapter 12
This discussion confirms that there are not only “second signets” that we do not know about, but also a habit of the "marked ones" / “children of the rebellion” being chosen for them leading to further questions on a “dragons rebellion” (which I will discuss further in an upcoming post).
All in all this makes it far more likely for Imogen to not only have a second signet as a marked rebel, but also keep unknown to us/Violet/or even Kaori at this time.
Continuing on the note of “knowledge” / the danger these secrets pose in knowing them, it’s worth noting:
"Hey, Bodhi?" I whisper so only the two of us can hear. "Hey, Violet?" he answers, looking up. "What's your second signet?" I lower my voice even more. He lifts his brows, then glances in Garrick's direction. "Don't have one." "As in you don't have one that I get to know about but will eventually see you wield, or don't have one have one?" A corner of his mouth lifts into a wry smile that reminds me of his cousin's. "Don't have one. Just like Xaden. Why?" "Curious," I admit. — Violet Sorrengail to Bodhi Durran, Chapter 28
Violet does not ask to know about everyone else… even going so far as to later ask Bodhi if he had one. Meaning another inner-circle & third-year bestie like Imogen could very well have one.
Finally, on the note of “what” that signet may be & the known powers of Imogen + the primary OS quote that brought this to my (and apparently Dain’s) attention:
Another set of footsteps joins mine, and a flash of metal sparks in the corner of my eye. Aetos catches up on my right, half his face drenched in blood, bearing his own dagger and a shield half his size. Shit. That's not good. Twenty. I channel my rage, rejecting any notion of fear, and draw one of my alloy-hilted daggers from the sheath at my arm in preparation to strike. We're almost there—The dark wielder pivots, whipping to face us with an unnatural speed even I can't match, and swings his staff in our direction. Fire erupts, barreling toward us in a deadly stream, and I weigh our options for all of a millisecond as we skid to a halt. It hits? We die. Jump? We die. "You will not burn!" Glane demands. Fuck, I really didn't want to have to do this, but I mentally open the door to my childhood home and flood my body with her power. "Get—" Aetos starts to yell. "Get behind me!" I shout, ripping the shield from his grip. His eyes flare wide, and he lets go. We have seconds, so I flip the shield, then slam its flat top between the row of stones at our feet and drop behind it, keeping my hand on the leather strap. Aetos jumps behind me as power rushes into my fingers so quickly I clench my teeth to keep from screaming. Heat surrounds us and the leather hardens in my grip as the shield turns to stone. Fire roars, blazes, flows around us. We are the rock in the river, demanding the water part. The heat dissipates as the blast ends, and Aetos dives to the left and throws. An alloy-hilted dagger sails from his hand and I rise, clutching my own. The dark wielder's expression of shock remains permanent as he desiccates a few feet away and falls off the wall. One down, but the guards are missing from the top of the turret, and I see a flash of purple disappear into the tower. Worse, another dressed in crimson strides along the eastern wall. Aetos jumps to his feet and draws his remaining dagger. "I'll take that one. You get the one in the tower." He glances at the stone shield, then breaks into a run, and I follow, sprinting as fast as I can. "And we're going to talk about whatever the fuck that just was later," he shouts over his shoulder, but l've already passed him, using lesser magic to boost my speed. — Imogen Cardulo, Glane, & Dain Aetos, Chapter 63.
First off: Imogen’s known & shown signet is short-term-memory wiping… this in itself is of course VERY powerful, classified, & helpful; most likely explaining the ending of this book & leaving us without plot holes in power (like that which Liam had)… this signet would even be extremely helpful for concealing a second signet. And so far, this signet has fit ever feat we have seen her do, with the other “how” being lesser magic in that she (like Xaden) uses & states here "to boost speed". However, none of this accounts for the way she survived above. Or even some actions that would be out of character, for example the fact that she risked her life for Dain; I am not saying she wouldn’t, or even did risk it intentionally (she may have simply been refusing to cower behind him & unnecessary chivalry, or realizing the fastest way was to save them both) but jumping in here without a plan seems like too much a risk for too little a relationship to me… unless she had a way that was not some fluke or freak accident… perhaps it had something to do with the runes she goes to work on shortly, again mentioned by a mark on Dain Violet notes earlier (I’ll discuss this more in an upcoming post). But honestly, all of that fails to clearly answer the how of how she & Dain survived that & the way in which it is described. To me, that screams only one answer; a Second Signet.
This moment is also questioned & jarring to the characters themselves as Dain takes the moment to note its oddity while adding it to his “list of things to talk about later” (which began with the reveal of another second signet to him in the form of Garrick’s distance-wielding, making it even more fitting to end with one too).
+ Let us not forget (as Liam’s ice mentioned in FW came to prove itself right in OS) Rebecca doesn’t leave plot-holes. She leaves clues. And even more often adds details specifically & with intention.
In this moment Imogen describes "throwing open a door" in her mind (a very common phrasing for magic & the control of it among dragon-riders) one that she did not want to visit (or perhaps more so, did not want to reveal) with this timing & placement (“exposure to Dain”). But seeing as its life or death, she does as a last resort. Furthermore, on the note of “last resorts” the phrasing is extra intriguing to me because her thought of grounding comfort is also one of pain & in itself reminds me of somewhere she would "not want to visit" & has kept shut away… similar to how a hidden second signet would be treated.
Glane tells her, “demands”/nearly-commands her "not to burn" (& while the way dragons show affection is often in a “don’t die” way) they have already covered this base earlier; it feels more like a reminder/order to open that “forbidden” power & door to said second signet. One that would do exactly what we see her do; stop her from burning.
Not to mention the fact she is “flooding” herself with power, this would be senseless right now if her only signet was short-term memory-loss. That will not stop the Venin Dark Wielders or flame, nor prevent them from burning, or protect her/Dain in any way we know of. Nor would lesser magic. So, anything she’s summoning has to have a different purpose… and she’s gather a lot of it.
And then we see this series of events that does not make sense with any other answer: Imogen forcing Dain behind her. Taking his weak shield that is smaller than them in size and not large enough to block flames (or by the sounds of it even sustain in materials & burnable leather against such a thing). Flipping it (again… odd), and slamming it into stone (I imagine this is not an easy thing to do as that sounds like breaking solid rock at your feet) and then seemingly it becomes stone itself. As Imogen stays holding on to it, not burning as heat goes around them, only feeling pain from a rush of power. Not to mention the question of where that stone appeared from in the first place (I can’t imagine a Dark Wielder taking aim right in front of a pillar of stone large enough to hide them). And then she says it; she IS the rock. She demands it to part. (Also, while this may be a stretch that means nothing; rock is mentioned heavily in the upcoming scenes, including the runes being formed, and the ground turning gray & draining while not yet harming that which she stands on).
As far as what powers that leads us with, we can of course, eliminate many that make no sense; both from these “requirements” & the plot (as an example: healing… if Imogen had that signet she would’ve saved Quinn right then and there… whatever her power is, it was at its limit & without that capacity). Originally, I did think it could be some sort of Flame-wielder but that still wouldn’t explain turning to stone. Then I considered welding (some sort of Metallurgist like Sawyer), however, the more and more I read, I think that Imogen truly meant what she said (and it’s the biggest clue Yarros gave, therefore silly to ignore & guess around) she turned it to stone. So, if not directly some sort of “rock-wielder” maybe some sort of “changing-materials”? Though I do think rock is the strongest theory, as if she had any substance at her fingertips, I’d guess there are more fire-proof options she would’ve used (unless it’s limited to that which she can touch… still… she didn’t pick what the shield was made of; she chose to change it to rock).
And who knows, (many second signets make a lot of sense in hindsight) so maybe that’s why she weight trains with Violet (she just makes rock weights lol… okay, that’s a stretch) but that’s the closest theory-ish thoughts I have!
P.S. final thought — why does Imogen say:
I unsheathe my last alloy-hilted dagger and stare up at the wyvern-filled sky. Then I make my way back inside, slip Quinn's last dagger from her thigh sheath, and reach for Glane. "Tell every rider within the walls to get over here and disarm. It's the only way we're living through this." — Imogen Cardulo, Chapter 63
Could this possible hint at the Second Signet as well? — Why else would disarming be helpful (as opposed to dangerous)? — Maybe she can turn these walls into the alloy if it is a substance-shifting signet… or do something with the walls material & stone?
So, in total I think there is only one conclusion; Imogen has a Second Signet & it rocks (literally).

The day had started like any other, with Johnny Storm, mocking you as usual.
“Come on, you know all that stuff is nonsense,” he said as he fiddled with a fireball in his hand.
“Johnny, do you really believe that after facing beings from other dimensions and realities, there is nothing beyond what you can see? “You replied, folding your arms.
“It's not that I don't believe in weird stuff, you know I've seen it all,” he said, extinguishing the small flame with a wave of his hand. I'm just saying that cursed books and stuff like that sound like the plot of a bad horror movie.
However, everything changed when Reed Richards led a mission. He had detected a disturbance at an archaeological dig in Egypt. Reed asked you to accompany Johnny to investigate, and although Johnny initially protested, he finally agreed.
As we flew over the dunes, Johnny kept making jokes about finding a cursed mummy or being haunted by some ancient spirit.
“Just make sure you don't light up near the relics, Johnny,” I said with a sarcastic grin. We don't want you reducing something millennia old to ashes.
“Relax, I always have everything under control,” he replied, leaning back in his seat.
Although Johnny took everything lightly, you knew that these kinds of artifacts were not to be underestimated.
The Egyptian sun beat down hard, and Johnny complained about the heat, which was ironic considering he himself could turn into a ball of fire whenever he wanted.
The head of the dig greeted them enthusiastically, showing us the latest finds: a series of subway tunnels that ran deep into the earth. The archaeologists had found hieroglyphs that mentioned an ancient sacred text, and Reed believed it might be connected to the Book of the Dead.
“This place is incredible,” you said as we walked through the tunnels. The texts tell of a pharaoh who tried to conquer death. The book we're looking for could be related to those rituals.
Johnny rolled his eyes.
“Sure, because nothing says 'fun' like a pharaoh obsessed with immortality.
As we moved deeper into the ruins, the walls were covered with symbols you didn't recognize, but which radiated a dark energy. Johnny, who up to that point had been making sarcastic comments, began to get more serious.
“Hey, don't you feel like the air is getting... weird in here? “he asked.
You nodded, feeling how the temperature seemed to drop strangely, despite the heat outside.
Finally, they came to a hidden chamber. In the center of the room, on a stone pedestal, was a book, the covers of which were made of what appeared to be ancient leather, and on them were drawn intricate symbols that seemed to move in the dim light of our lanterns.
“That must be the Book of the Dead,” you whispered.
Johnny approached slowly, inspecting the book with a raised eyebrow.
“It doesn't look so scary,” he said, reaching out to touch it.
“Wait! “We don't know what could be triggered if you touch it carelessly.
“Okay, I'll let you handle it. But if anything goes wrong, I'll light up and we'll get the hell out of here.
You nodded and pulled out a pair of special gloves Reed had designed for handling mystical artefacts. Carefully, you lifted the book from the pedestal. As soon as you did, the air in the chamber seemed to thicken, and a faint whisper filled the space.
“I think we woke him up,” Johnny murmured.
Before he could respond, the walls of the chamber began to shake. The symbols glowed with an intense light, and an icy wind, impossible in that place, rose up around you. Then, you saw it. A spectre, a figure shrouded in shadows, materialized in front of you. Its voice echoed in your head.
