End of Empathy (time for violence)
[First] Prev <–-> Next
#poorly drawn mdzs#mdzs#wei wuxian#lan jingyi#jin ling#lan sizhui#We are back to the present! Honestly I think I'm going to try and truncate the rest of this arc.#I LOVE yi-city and I really appreciate all of the support the yi-city lovers have given me. And the patience of those who aren't.#But it's been two months. And I need to move this along </3#Anyways; I love the start of ep 3 so much. The worried concern of the juniors is so cute#but the crown jewel by far is wwx responding like a parent that's very hungover but trying so hard to be nice about it#like 'shhh shhhh guys hi I'm up now. Can you keep the volume down. Can you get me some water and my sunglasses from the glovebox.'#and of course the incredible wham line of 'Xue Yang Must Die.'#'Is YX irredeemable? I'm pro 'everyone is capable of change and deserves a chance.' So Im of the camp of 'if he had the opportunity...maybe#The issue is that this setting has no structure to provide those opportunities. You are perceived as a threat therefor you must die#XY is a very interesting parallel to the YLLZ because they both meet the same fate: outsiders determining that they need to be killed#plus both did war crimes. I know it's easy to forget the YLLZ actually did do some of the things he was accused of (most wrong)#but wwx also has blood on his hands. He also sought revenge in pretty twisted ways. Both were given opportunities to step away and refused#The difference is that we empathize with and like XXC & SL and A-Qing. The Narrative says they were wronged and that is an injustice.'

Don’t you think Harry has some shady sh*t going on in his world? I mean, it’s pretty obvious there’s something super calculated behind him and his whole image. Everyone talks about how "kind, nice, and caring" he is like, people who work with him and fans alike. There’s barely any info or reports of him ever acting out or doing anything wrong. Sure, you could say his team is doing a great job with the NDAs, but I feel like it goes deeper than that. Don’t you think?
what kinda Mr. X ominous red string theory paranoia is this babe… this is who you fear harry to be

As a fic writer I am becoming more and more unmarketable.
I am considering writing for a show that is so niche and bad it doesn't even have an A03 tag

im having an absolute unadulterated blast with the Ethersea prologue for many many reasons, it's beautiful and exceeds all my expectations.. but also. there's many moments here that genuinely make me go "oh god damn, these people are Americans." the Quiet Year system is a profoundly fascinating and revealing game - nothing tells you quite as much about how somebody sees the world than asking them to imagine a new one.
#customizable 'single family housing' the immediate adoption of a liberal economic system hierarchical gvt structures... and fish#especially when the whole set up is such a clear metaphor for climate change as the consequence of industrialization!#'single family housing' just rocked me so hard. that in the middle of an apocalypse we'd use resources towards that kind of individualism#and then they *do* kind of brush against that! with the idea of Community going down because of the inability to connect with neighbours!#the adventure zone#taz ethersea#mine#edit also not to understate that i do find the critique and allegory that is present to be really nice and genuinely exciting#the ending of prologue v goes SO HARD i was out of breath from the excited stimming#and i think my difficulty reading tone made me miss that the 'entrepeneur' thing was a joke? like theres still some#interesting biases at work here but maybe there's more insight than i gave it credit for. im curious about how ol' joshie's bs will develop#autistic anarchocommie netwon moments#also i wish theyd be less anxious about the brinear as a DID allegory i think it could be so interestinggg#we'll see. im really loving this show so far. taz has such a very special direct connection to my heart#i really like what theyre doing with this stuff even if sometimes i wish theyd do a lot more#the ending monologue of prologue v basically encapsulates most of the things about this that i find exciting and cool#i hope the transition to dnd will still allow them to bloom

DN ask game: how about 18 and 23 (23 I will amend to 'one of your current favourite moments,' in case you are me and hate choosing favourites in any kind of absolute way haha)
CACKLES oh you know me so well =3=" original ask game
18. what do you think about Wammy’s House?
MY GOD. what do i NOT think about wammy's house. i feel like i've already talked a bit on wammy's house in Various Essays, but i suppose to coagulate some of those kinda random thoughts...
it Fucks those kids up. by nature of what wammy's house Is, i don't think it's possible for a single kid to get through it w/o getting at least a little fucked up. that goddamn orphanage is releasing a Storm of incredible messed up little geniuses on the world and the world will never recover. you can't create a fucking organization based around concepts like Live Up To The World's Greatest Detective or Never Ever Use Your Real Name (guess that's probably KIRA motivated, but still) without screwing over the sense of identity of an entire generation. nobody's doin it like them fr.
i really really really like the idea that people toss around about KIRA = god of the new world, therefore -> L = god of the old world, and i think wammy's house maps onto that idea super well as a kind of cult of the old god. something something greco-roman mystery cults, L as a void player homestuck classpect-wise, the Secrets and Idolization inherent to that entire entity. oh yeah it's all comin together rubs my hands eviley.
i saw someone say the LABB murders novel was bad the other day and almost cried because i personally Adore that book, for the additional naomi characterization + beyond moments yes, but also for the extra lore it establishes about wammy's and L more generally. having actual Generations within the house is so fucking fascinating by how you can break it down, especially when you try to fit L into it and maybe have a generation where he was interacting with the other kids during his kinda Rise to Power. i definitely think beyond and L interacted quite extensively at the very least (headcanon basis for that mostly, i just like the idea + it explains why he even got the idea to emulate him so closely), and the existence of A in and of itself is such a fascinating mystery, i love seeing how people mess with the idea of them in different ways.
also everyone go read heirs and spares for fantastic light-at-wammy's house content that almost reads like some of the best earliest parts of the promised neverland and also has some great L and light childhood worsties content. go go
also kira bless time speaks for writing that entire timeline where light and L go live at wammy's and traumatize mello w/ their horrible terrible flirting that is fucking saving me. i am so Desperate for more lawlight interacting with wammy's content i have no idea why that sets my brain off so bad but it Just Does. etc etc L negligent parent King for the win, i need to see near and L have the most horrible terrible psychological battles monologuing so loud it stinks up the entire damn room while mello and light are beating each other with bats in the background. please. lord.
also also roger's characterization in the seals are good series is unironically my accepted characterization for him now whoops. btw i don't think i have many Deep Thoughts on watari, he's kinda just a shitty old man philanthropist to me :/ though i do find him more interesting and Paternalistic with a good L genderbend.........
23. what was your favorite moment and why?
you said current favorite so honestly... ok i'll limit myself to two.
FAVORITE SCENE OF ALL TIME: LIGHT DYING. ez. specifically in the manga. there is legitimately no better scene in the entire series. this fucking panel haunts my dreams it's so goddamn Good
Tumblr media
there is nothing i love more in this world than watching light yagami bloody and pathetic crawling on the floor and begging for his life only to die like every other criminal he killed. his fear is so Palpable it literally makes me sick. i've read this final sequence, like ch.105-107 but especially this last bit so many goddamn times istg it's burned into my eyelids LIGHT YAGAMIIIIIIII. also his laugh in the anime is fucking incredible in both dubs 10/10 no notes you killed it fellas
FAVORITE SCENE AT THIS MOMENT: been thinking a Lot about both naomi and matsuda lately and their various notable scenes, oddly. i think i need to reread his entire comedy of errors during yotsuba again alskjfskjd and also check out naomi's death again esp in conjunction with LABB murder stuff?? idk. they're both characters that i feel i haven't talked much about (also kiyomi, thought i've been getting Thoughts on her LMFAO thank you forever @kiyomitakada) so i wanna get my image of them cleared up more in my head. also all of the SPK too, halle especially. damn i guess that's a whole lot of moments actually :P WHATEVER.
anyways ty for the ask <33

I dont think ive talked about the fact that MeiLaw is a thing after order 66 and not before, but Its 1am and i wanna lore drop some random stuff i guess!
the hard truth is that Law is the one to land the blow against Dala when the order is given, so when him and the others cross paths with Mei again (and subduing her (because she hesitates when she sees Law) , he is fully expecting her to hate him, or lash out, try to kill him... anything along those lines. He had already accepted the fact, because even though objectively, it wasnt his fault, that's a pretty difficult thing to wrap your head around
When that isnt the case, it takes him quite some time to come to terms with the fact that she is even looking at him. But despite her flaws, and her tendency to act a bit rash in battle, Mei was a jedi, her entire life has been reinforcement of letting things go, not holding onto hatred or anything of the sort, and while it isnt really something she can forgive his hands for, she has accept it, and move past it.
And acceptance is pretty much the first step to forgiveness anyway :] (out of universe I would say she has all but completely forgiven him after she has had some time to come to terms with what happened AND seperate the entire experience from Law. LAW wasnt there, the order was.. blame palpatine.. it was SHEEVS FAULT!!!!)
I think a big part of it also is the fact that holding onto that moment, and letting a rift form between them, is the exact outcome Palpatine was aiming for. Pulling the woven thread of hope so far in every direction that is comes apart. So maybe part of her forgiving him was out of spite... screw that old wrinkly raisin man.
but yeah uhhhhhg lore drop? i think the most interesting thing about their story is how they survive tbh, i hope it doesnt sound too outlandish? After the whole.. inquisitorious thing.. Mei becomes pretty introspective and rational, but even before then she was trained to master her emotions, i think it would be quite shallow and short-sighted to hold something against someone who in hindsight very clearly had no part in the action. I think its also important to say she is still deeply affected by it, she has moved past Laws involvement, and forgiven him, but one of her biggest struggles in the aftermath is still dealing with the loss of her Padawan.
I think both things can be true

The World Was Wide Enough Chapter 4 is here!
(...I did the chapter number wrong on Tumblr last time but then decided I WASN'T wrong because the first chapter is a prologue so... there.) The World Was Wide Enough contains both my retelling of Veilguard from Ellana's POV, as well as now several chapters of Ellana and Solas slowly healing, confronting Solas's past, and figuring out how they can come back together after everything they've been through while in the Fade prison. We're back to Solas's POV this chapter, to face what he did to the Titans. Preview below the cut!
“I went as far as I could go in the forest,” she said. “Then I started to see eyes. Titans’ eyes.”
Solas didn’t feel fear at her words. Instead he felt distant from himself. Like he was watching something from far away. A sin so ancient, with so many others piled on top of it, that he had forgotten its true weight. A long, deep wound that had simply scarred over, with no care or attention to the knotted tissue beneath the surface.
“They didn’t try to harm me,” Ellana added. “But I didn’t try to go further than that. It seemed like they were there for you.”
He remembered drifting through vast green spaces, watching the Titans, watching the dwarves who served them quietly, admiring their union of purpose, delighting in the song of the lyrium whenever he could hear it.
“You are right of course. They are not here for you.”
He tried to move his feet, to head in the direction of the forest, but they wouldn’t move.
“Solas?”
“I do not believe I am ready to face them,” he said finally, and then he felt something. Shame, a familiar tide, washing over him.
“Is there anything I can do to help?”
“Being here is enough.”
Ellana went to one of the shelves and began examining the books he’d summoned, and eventually Solas stopped being rooted to where he stood. He picked up his charcoal and paper and began sketching ideas. No regrets, this time. Places and people he wanted to honor and remember.
They stayed like that for two days, keeping to their new home, puttering around the forest and the library, sleeping under the stars. He began to get used to sleeping beside her again, even if it was in separate bedrolls still. It was a familiar and unthinkable luxury, having her there.
Then on the third day, the Titans’ eyes began appearing in the parts of the forest even closer to their new home. Still, unblinking, silent. Waiting.
