"Y/N," Aaron huffed amusedly at you, "Relax. He's seven, I don't know what you're so worried about."

"I want him to like me." You insisted, a brand new copy of Spider-Man 3 wrapped as a peace offering to Aaron's son, "It's important to me!"

"He will," Aaron assured you, "I've been talking you up for weeks and you're bringing him his favorite movie as a gift."

"Can't believe he likes the third one best," You grumbled judgmentally, "He has terrible taste."

"Don't tell him that." Aaron chuckled, "You ready?"

"As I'll ever be." You nod, butterflies flittering anxiously around your stomach. He pushed the door open, the sounds of happy children filling the air as two ran past the door wearing identical party hats.

"He's probably waiting by the cake." Aaron gestured to the kitchen, "I'll put your gift on the table if you want to go find him."

You nodded, thanking him for taking care of your gift, and setting off towards the kitchen. Sure enough, the little boy you'd seen hundreds of pictures of was peering excitedly up at his birthday cake, a finger in the frosting, but when he heard you come in he whirled around, caught in the act.

"I don't think you're supposed to be eating it yet." You cracked a soft smile, making sure he wasn't afraid of you before you even got the chance to introduce yourself, "But it's tempting, huh?"

"I- I'm sorry," He looked like a scolded puppy, and you instantly understood why Aaron was so incredibly fond of him, "Please don't tell my daddy!"

"I won't." You assured him, taking a plastic knife from the counter, "Can I help you fix it?"

"Will you?" Jack stares up at you incredulously, hope glimmering in his eyes.

"Of course." You nod, "Be my lookout, would you? Tell me if you see your daddy coming."

He nodded eagerly, rushing off to stand protectively at the entrance to the kitchen. You quickly smoothed over the dip in the frosting, making sure to remember which piece you'd cut for him so that no one else had to eat it.

"Daddy's coming!" Jack's eyes blew wide open as soon as you put the finishing touches on the cake, and he raced towards you panickily. He scrambled behind your legs and you tossed the plastic knife before it could become evidence, smiling casually at Aaron when he came in looking for you.

"Um.. you two okay in here?" He eyed Jack suspiciously, the boy grinning bashfully into the back of your leg.

"We're not getting up to any trouble if that's what you're asking." You grinned at Aaron, "We've been very well-behaved."

"RIght." Aaron nodded slowly, crouching down to peer around your legs at Jack, "I see you've met Y/N?"

Jack let out a soft gasp into the material of your pants, then he ducked around your leg, peering up excitedly at you, "You're Y/N? Daddy's new friend?"

"I am." You smiled kindly at the boy, your heart melting at his toothy grin, "It's nice to meet you, Jack."

Getting home from school one day, I saw an out of place plushy… actually, I don’t recognize that plushy at all. Since when did I have a plushy that looked like that? Whatever, it’s cute and I’m probably just being paranoid. I thought as I went to go and get ready for volleyball, I had about an hour before I had to go to my game.

It didn’t take long to gear up or to get to the bus stop. Once on the bus, I did quickly check my bag once more to make sure I had everything. Weird, I don’t recall putting that in there. I thought as I pulled the plushy out of my bag… This was weird, I decided to inspect it. Just turning it around in my hand and feeling the soft material. Yup, it was a normal plushy, so how did it get in my bag? Maybe I bumped it or something and it fell into my bag.

Soon I was chugging some water as I listened to my coach give the team a talk. We just won our game, 3-0. It was great, especially since my friend on the boy’s team had made a bet with me that we’d lose. I’ll be collecting my 20 bucks Monday.

On the way home, I was zoning out, just waiting for the bus to get to my stop. The bus suddenly lurched forward, and I went with it, grabbing the pole… damn transit drivers, I swear some don’t know how to drive right. I thought as I glanced up, what I saw made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up, my whole body froze… “What. The. Fuck. is that?!” I screamed, right infront of the bus was some creature. It was made of shadows I guess? Red eyes, dark blob, sharp teeth… Who’s granny was on the menu tonight?  I thought, trying to use humor to calm my nerves.

The next thing I saw was out of some weird kids show, which I won’t pride myself in, but I definitely had watched. Some sparkly, glittery, shiny, and glowing? Girl? Lady? Person! Showed up and started fighting the weird creature. Why the hell is there a magical girl? No, better question: Since when did they exist? Well, actually, the best question in my mind right now is ‘What the fuck’, very typical teenage response.

Well, the bus ride was great, everyone was dead silent after that, no one wanting to acknowledge what just happened it seems. Soon I got out, still wondering what the fuck just happened.

When I got home, I went straight to my mother to tell her what I just witnessed… anyone want to guess how that went? Terrible. And since I’m not telling lies, I get my phone taken away? But it wasn’t a lie! But of course, all she says in response in that dissapointed bitterly loving mom tone was “magic doesn’t exit silly.”
