anon, I am so sorry and I mean this in the best way, but I do think episode 5 is the absolute funniest place to have stopped following Twst because shit starts escalating SO fast after that. episode 6 literally starts with a secret government shadow agency breaking down our doors and kidnapping students. zero to a million instantly.

and like...that's not even the zaniest thing so far? Ortho's hacked into the collective human unconscious. there's time travel (sort of). "Crowley might be Malleus' long-lost father" is a serious theory. if you'd told me any of this back pre-episode 6, I would have asked for the link to this unbelievable but highly intriguing fanfic.

also, episode 7 gave us (and then immediately took away 😔) the best character in the whole story:

Your art is amazing and I admire how consistent your art is for characters! Could you share your process or a speed paint of your work?

Okay so first of all I’m not a professional, so keep this in mind while you read.

My process for a colored piece is very simple: sketch - refined sketch (lineart) - flat colors - shadows and lighting rough placement- rendering - final adjustments (+ a bit of chromatic aberration and noise)

Tricks I use: flip horizontally the canvas a lot of times while sketching - zoom out to see the whole canvas in a miniature (easy to spot mistakes) - put on a gray filter on the colored piece to see if the contrast is good - go away from the drawing for some time, come back to find the mistakes you couldn't see before - never do a piece in one day from start to finish - avoid tangents…

As long as I’m happy with the results lately, I see there’s much I could improve.

coloring seriously breaks my brain. like I understand basic concepts like complementary colors and using the color wheel.

So okay, I want to make a piece where the primary colors are yellow and purple. But now uh-oh, this character is wearing a dark green shirt. Now what? Do I just take the color closest (yellow) and move it a little to towards green? But there's a point where you do that too much and the whole piece ends up looking muddy and unbalanced.

For the record I know the inevitable answer is more observation, more practice, more references. But I'm in that frustrating learning stage where it feels like i've plateaued and it's really not fun to draw

I’ve noticed throughout the years that jess loves to use messy / “big misunderstanding” cheating plot for her characters. One main example i can think of is the aarmau breakup subplot in the end of mss3, and the subtle genemau tension blooming after those two were separated. I think this still continues on in mss4 as some type of comic relief when tatiana (wolfpack leader) was warming up aaron from dying of hypothermia while aphmau gotten impulsively jealous.

Nowadays, the cheating gag is used for the asmp characters / cocomau characters. Not gonna lie, i kinda eat up the toxic polycue that’s happening coco! aphmau, coco! aaron, coco! zane and coco! kc. I have a love-and-hate relationship with newgen aphmau content cus’ it can be overstimulating to watch as background noise, along with the out-of-character content.

Bubby I must know your drawing and/or colouring process! Could you share a speed paint please?

I usually photobash to make references, and then draw on top of them so I can check the ref easier (I don’t like glancing back and forth, you can see in the beginning where I draw over top of the reference but I don’t follow the lines of it - it’s mostly to help me with visualization!)

My process (for stuff that’s more than just a doodle) goes:

loosely sketch out the general shape

More firmed up sketch/cleaning up

Outline in black on layer below & fill in, use that as my ref layer so I don’t have to worry about colour getting outside the lines (makes it faster for me)

Block In real colours

Block in textures

(Optional)

Add shading (I cell shade, with some airbrushing for details like shines where necessary, and soft gradients)

Add bg (I usually find a free use image off google since I’m not a fan of drawing bgs (take too long I move FAST), and I add a gradient on top of the final art that’s a blurry vers of the bg, to make all the colours harmonize (it makes it look like the character is really in the space!)

for their clothes I just roughly use the wiki pages LOL. Poses and sometimes faces are made up because I also struggle with finding references generally😭I should start using references bc I'm really not learning from only drawing from memory

But! I think using references and your art not looking like it 1:1 is a good thing!
