I have realized there's very few people actually doing Automatic Language Growth as Marvin Brown made it, pretty much only Thai AUA and ALGworld and Comprehensible Thai (on youtube) and their related school/teachers. So if you aren't studying Thai then you probably won't run into pure ALG lessons/study program unless you make it yourself. Pure ALG is only going to be reasonable when doing a program, if you happen to already be in an ALG school. I have found very few people doing pure ALG on their own, outside of ALG programs, and few have posted results and experiences. (So if you wish to read/hear about experiences, David Long on youtube who did ALG Thai, and a few other youtubers and redditors doing ALG Thai, are the best resource).
Dreaming Spanish is not purely ALG according to certain ALG enthusiasts, but it is the closest thing you'll find that's hugely popular in the English speaking sphere. Dreaming Spanish is welcoming even if you have taken classes before, and even if you still use other study methods alongside it. So I do recommend it if you like it. With the caveat you Remember that for goals involving listening, reading, speaking, writing, you DO eventually need to do things to practice all of those goals. Dreaming Spanish Roadmap mentions starting to read and speak at Level 6 of the roadmap, and anecdotally learners on r/dreamingspanish mention eventually reading 1-3 million words, speaking 200 hours, and working with a tutor/friend or a WritingStreak writing group for practicing writing in prep for B2 or C1 tests. So if you plan to reach goals in all 4 skill areas, eventually you will want to do those things too.
(And I would say that most people who have done Dreaming Spanish who are going viral lately for 1000-2000 hours and can't speak well, probably just haven't practiced 200 hours speaking yet, or have not read 1-3 million words yet. I'd argue a lot are actually A2-B1 level already in speaking even before 200 hours of speaking practice, but since a lot of people claim they'll "speak as well as a native speaker" they're getting torn to shreds online, because A2-B1 - or even B2 to C1 after 200+ hours of speaking - is not as good as a native speaker. I think Dreaming Spanish changed it's roadmap as it now has B2 level skills as it's Level 7 description. But certain ALG enthusiasts love to say perfect pure ALG results in speaking as well as native speakers, and then those enthusiasts say Dreaming Spanish is NOT pure ALG enough and that's why the results are imperfect. But B1 is fucking GREAT for never having spoken before, and B2 after 200 hours of speaking practice is excellent as far as I'm concerned. Dreaming Spanish roadmap is 1500 hours for B2, and FSI Estimates 1200 hours for B2 in Spanish when accounting for 40 hours a week - self study and class time - at 30 weeks. Those estimates are in the same ballpark. Expect it to take 1000-2000 hours to get to B2 in Spanish no matter what route you take to study.)
And don't get me started on the purist ALG enthusiasts... I read Marvin Brown's book. And I honestly think he did NOT guarantee you would become as good as a native speaker! I think the ALG schools may market themselves using such language though, so maybe that's where the misunderstanding comes from - and David Long in particular did pure ALG, runs an ALG Thai school, and definitely claims he speaks as well as a native... though I'm not sure. I've seen other anecdotal reports of students who did ALG Thai school, and they got B2 active skills results (C1 comprehension) in around 2000-3000 hours - Pablo Roman, and ALGWorld blog posts. Not "results like a native speaker," B2-C1 level. I think Marvin Brown himself... himself... thought any adult learner could NOT learn to speak as well as a native, due to all the years they've learned about grammar in their native language and in other languages. I think Marvin Brown's theory of permanent damage and a learning ceiling, was based on his own experience of fossilized mistakes and things he could not stop mentally thinking about before speaking/could not spontaneously produce. Basically, I think Marvin Brown did not claim any adult learner could learn to speak just like a native speaker... I think he said theoretically IF you did ALG perfectly, and had no prior experience analysing languages then maybe you could get the best result possible. But almost all adults have done grammar revision on essays in school, so they already have a ceiling on the results they can achieve, according to his theory. Maybe Brown's ALG school claimed it could give students "native speaker like results" and it's false marketing is still plaguing ALG theory. I'm going to say... probably. Hey if a school says THEY can give you native like results, sure do it if you want to spend your money, and hold the school accountable if the results are worse than they claimed. But if you're doing ALG on your own? Expect B2 overall results if you do the hours they recommend, then speak for a couple hundred hours after you feel ready to speak (after 1000 hours of listening), read a lot once you've done a lot of listening, and practice writing once you are practicing speaking. Expect realistic results - B2. Not "as good as a native speaker," and you can't be let down later.

honestly I absolutely love the Avvar in Jaws of Hakkon. How they worship the gods, how they view the world around them, how accepting they are and just how interesting they are too. I absolutely despise how the Inquisitor and Companions make commentary as if they're stupid or wrong in their beliefs, or that they're "just crazy people who worship spirits".
The dialogue you don't choose or even the ones you do are on the line of condescending, and it's frankly insulting, especially that all options on the dialogue wheel fall on that line.
the Avvar are so fucking cool, I hate we only get a DLC with them. (I also miss the Chasind - I wish they weren't forgotten or left in the dirt by BioWare :( )

fanon Jaune Arc is the most insufferable dudebro stand-in I've ever seen. he's the definition of mid. you could replace him with any bland isekai protagonist or harem protagonist in fics and there'd be no difference. if you go into any other character tag there's a 90% chance there'll be multiple posts of characters talking to each other about how cool jaune is. if you go into ao3 and do the same you'll be bombarded with jaune harem fics that all start to melt together after you've scrolled through 40 of them. he's so far removed from canon jaune. that's not my boy. my boy does not have rizz or game (except for that one time with pyrrha bc she's INTO his failboy persona). he is a soaking wet dog who was born in a cardboard box. i will kill fanon jaune with my own bare hands and then give canon jaune a blanket. can you tell ive been looking through character tags and going on a block exodus.

“She was also insane.” Prince readjusts so he leans up against a tree, his red cloak protecting his tunic from the bark. “You don't know the half of it.” “Do we have to talk about her?” Link asks. He finally looks away.  “No.”
Don't mind me just making fanart of a fic I'm writing that isn't even published involving a lot of OCs that nobody cares about :)

I went to go on my weekly walk through the bernard tag and why are the haters there?? What are they wishing on my boy!!?? Σ(°Д°υ)
Ngl the character development joke was funny BUT THAT WAS DONE WITH NEGATIVE INTENTIONS I RUBUKE YOUUUUJJ
Hey you guys! If you want to hate on (innocent and fictional) characters by all means go ahead. However, don’t be so inane as to tag the character when said tag is for those who share positive works or just neutral thoughts/conversations about them. Perhaps use a ‘-insert name- hate’ tag instead? Just an example ok thank youu
I hope we can exist separately in peace from now onwards.

my ffvii ships new years kisses:
- zakkura: zack gets really giddy and excited and kisses cloud as soon as new years hits, flustering cloud really badly in the process but afterwards they both cant help but smile at each other and giggle
- asg: they’re all about to just go for it but then they need to pause for a moment as they realize theres three of them… they debate trying to figure out how to make a three-way kiss work but quickly realize that wont work as they all literally butt heads, so instead they have to debate which pair kisses first and just alternate until they all get their kisses from each other, but it takes quite a while because if its genesis and angeal, sephiroth will get upset, he already feels like the odd one out in the relationship, but if its angeal and sephiroth, genesis will absolutely get jealous and throw a fit, so ultimately angeal takes one for the team and decides to let sephgen have the first kiss, and then they promptly decide to shower angeal with love and kisses afterwards, so he doesn’t feel upset about it
- tsengru: rufus goes in for the kiss immediately but tseng, being the rational one, puts his hand up to stop rufus and looks around to make sure no one else is looking, and once he’s sure the coast is clear he lets rufus kiss him, holding up his champagne(?) glass to block the view of their lips from anyone else (i dont know what people drink for new years or many kinds of glasses…)
- renorude(?): they’re absolutely all over each other, like full on making out, even before the countdown, without a care in the world, even as the excitement dies down and everyone else is done kissing, reno and rude are still going at it, leaving everyone else to just kind of awkwardly stare at the spectacle and just pray that they keep their clothes on
- aerti: they’re holding hands and leaning against each other, and as new years hits they both look at each other and giggle happily, just full of nothing but love as aerith leans in and kisses tifa, even as tifa seems a bit bashful about it
- tuestine(?): reeve is really reserved and nervous about it, but lets vincent lean in for the kiss first and then gently pulls down the collar(?) of vincent’s cape hiding the lower half of his face, making sure vincent’s okay with it first, and then they kiss, soft quick and sweet, though reeve is still a bit of a blushing mess that doesn’t know how to keep himself together afterwards
- valenwind: cid just grabs vincent by his stupid collar and pulls him down and gracelessly kisses him

This may be a hot take but I think always thinking of peaceful and calm and put-together characters as having more violent hobbies, angrier attitudes, and grosser habits is strange, but especially moreso when those characters come from more violent and crude environments. Like this character is kind and soft despite where they grew up, why are you defaulting to something they're not?

I haven't been active in the fandom, but I have been commissioning some artists (both for charity and personal interests) and it really made me realize how professional my token 4 artists that I normally commission are compared to other artists, because why tf is one of them charging me extra because I asked for a plain-blue background instead of a plain-white background.....

Where are people getting 8-12 for Siffrin from????? Like even without the timing of the Island, SASAP Siffrin canonically drinks wine and I’m pretty sure there’s a bathroom convo that implies he’s gone out drinking with the party before, like that rouge is a Grown Adult 100% (and also if Siffrin Was somehow 8-12 I don’t think they would’ve written their interactions with Isabeau like that since he’s also written to be at least mid 20s or so and has a job)
8-12 as in 8-12 when they left the island, not during game events. You misread the tags on this one.
(said tags were based on seeing poll results where the overwhelming, while not Majority, mode/most frequent answer was 8-12, with a not insubstantial number of people answering 5-9??)
(ive repeated my own thoughts on this matter a number of times, but mostly it comes down to disagreeing with 'refusing to eat vegetables is a childish reason to run away' since it's stated in text that they were Joking at the time (reads to me like a teenage 'ohh my god stop telling me what to doooo', which is also supported by adrienne's own word of god that they were a teen/that its based on their own teenage anecdote), and the logic that an unnacompanied child is likely to be taken in and taken care of, where a mid-teen or older is more likely to be assumed to be okay when Wandering Around On Their Own, Homeless. Which to me lines up far more with Siffrin's in-game behaviour of latching onto small kindnesses, etc. I know a lost child is a sad concept but extend that kind of empathy to teens too?? A lost teen ends up in such a tragic place of 'too old to be seen as needing protection' and 'still too young to be alone like that'. you dont need to make them younger to make it more tragic! if anything losing MORE of their adolesence is scarier... So I'm on team 15-18 myself. Because uh. Numbers. 30/25 minus 10/15 is still more likely to be on the higher side. And thats assuming that people would say 'about a decade' when referring to a variance as high as 5 extra years. (remember too that nille has to be able to be old enough to remember the island's disappearence and she's mira's age of early 20s. Mathsssss))
(although i have seen some WILD poll results with at least a few people pegging sif's in-game age as low as 19-23 which still boggles the mind given how frequently they're reiterated to be the second oldest in the party next to odile and the. literal wiki page that states their age to be mid-to-late 20s. I have No idea where people are getting that outside of 1. not paying attention 2. infantilisation 3. being on the younger end themselves and not really being able to visualise an older person (than them. 30 isnt old) having the kinds of mental struggles that siffrin has, and due to relating to them pulling the presumed age closer to their own)

TOTK Light Dragon Crochet Pattern
It's been a while! Here's a crochet pattern for the Light Dragon from Tears of the Kingdom. I'll post it on deviant art shortly.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Full pattern below cut. If this ends up on P*nterest, I'm going to be very disappointed with one of you.
Stitches used (abbreviations): chain (ch), slip stitch (sl st), single crochet (sc), double crochet (dc), treble crochet (tr), increase (inc), decrease (dec)
This pattern is complicated – partially because I haven’t written a pattern for anything in a number of years, partially because the Light Dragon has a lot of weird parts. There’s chaining and slip stitching into the chains to make antlers, front loop and back loop work, flattening and working through two halves of a round simultaneously, and a lot of positioning.
I typically work in the round, without joining; if you would like to join, just add a sl st and a ch 1 to the end or start of each row in the round. It may make things twist less.
Head (1 in light brown)
1: ch 3, sc 2 in 2nd ch from hook, sc 3 in last chain, turn work (so that you’re working on the far side of the chain), sc (6)
2: sc, inc twice, sc, inc twice (10)
3-6: sc around
 7: in, sc around (11)
8: sc 5, IN BACK LOOP ONLY inc, in BOTH LOOPS, sc 5 (12) (the empty loop will be used with the white head marking)
9: sc around (12)
10: sc 3, inc, sc 5, inc, sc 2 (14)
11: sc 13, inc (15)
12: sc 7, inc, sc 7 (16)
13: sc 4, inc, sc 6, inc, sc 4 (18)
14: sc 8, inc, sc 8, inc (20)
15-18: sc around (20)
19: sc 3, dec around (16)
20: sc 2, dec around (12) DO NOT F/O, continue to body
Begin stuffing here, and continue stuffing as you go
Begin Body
21:  sc 6 in brown, join cream, in BACK LOOPS ONLY, sc 6 in cream (12)
22- 25: sc 6 in brown, sc 6 in cream (12)
26: sc 1 cream, sc 4 brown, sc 7 cream (12)
Rep rows 22-26  1 time
32-: rep row 26 (12)
Continue repeating row 26 until you’re happy with the dragon’s body length; mine was a total of 89 rounds. Then, continue with the tail
90: sc 1 cream, sc 4 brown, in cream sc 2, inc, sc 2, inc, sc (14)
91-96: Sc 1 cream, sc 4 brown, sc 9 brown (14)
97: sc 1 cream, sc 4 brown, in cream sc 2, dec, sc 2, dec, sc 1 (12)
98: sc 1 cream, sc 4 brown, in cream sc 1, dec, sc 1, dec, sc 1 (10)
99: sc 1 cream, sc 4 brown, in cream sc 1, dec twice (8)
100: sc 1 cream, in brown dec twice, in cream dec twice (moving the stitch marker to after the decrease) (4)
F/O, make sure everything’s stuffed and weave in ends
White Head Marking (One in cream) On one end of the unworked loops from Head/Body round 21, attach cream
1: inc, sc 4 inc, ch 1 and turn (8)
2: inc, sc 2, inc, sc 3, inc, ch 1 and turn (11)
3: inc, sc 4, inc, sc 4, inc, DO NOT ch 1 or turn (yet) (14)
4: ch 4, turn, sl st in 2nd ch from hook, sc in next two chs, skip first sc in the row (last worked sc from row 3), sc in 2nd sc, sc one more, skip next sc, sc in the stitch next to it (you want the hole, it’s for antlers), sc 4 more, ch 1, turn
4.1-2: sc 4 across, ch 1 and turn (4)
4.3: sc, dec, sc, ch 1 and turn (3)
4.4-5: sc across, ch 1 and turn (3)
4.6: sc, dec, ch 1 and turn (2)
4.7 dec, sl st into the open loop from Head row 8, sl st into the side of the head marking until you get back to row 4, cont row 4
4 cont: skip the first sc in row 4 (this is the other antler’s space), sc 4, ch 1, turn, sc 4, sl st in 2nd ch from hook, sc 2, join into a sc in row 4
F/O, leaving a long tail
Spike numbers depend on how long your dragon is; her back spikes are arranged in a large-med-small-med-large pattern, starting with two large spikes and ending with an extra seven large spikes on the tail (two on top, four on the sides, and one of the very end). I would recommend making two large, two medium, and one small spike to start, and laying them out to see how many repetitions of that pattern that you can fit on the dragon, and how many spikes you need. I fit three repetitions, and those amounts are reflected below.
Large Spikes (in light blue) (I made 11)
1: sc 4 in mc (4)
2: inc, sc around (6)
3: inc, sc 2 around (8)
4: inc, sc 3 around (10)
5: inc, sc 4 around (12)
F/O, leaving a long tail
Medium Spikes (in light blue) (I made 6) 1: sc 4 in mc (4)
2: inc, sc around (6)
3: inc, sc 2 around (8)
4: inc, sc 3 around (10)
F/O, leaving a long tail
Small Spikes (in light blue) (I made 3)
1: sc 4 in mc (4)
2: inc, sc around (6)
3: inc, sc 2 around (8)
F/O, leaving a long tail
Under-spike gold
I found this easier to follow by working conceptually. You are making circles for each spike to sit on top of. To start, count your spikes, and chain: 6 for each large spike; 5 for each medium spike; and 4 for each small spike. (I had ch 80, but I needed ch 83, see below). Add 2 chains at the end. Those last two chains count as Tr, not as chains to skip/work into. You’ll end up working on either side of the starting chain, mirroring what you do on one side on the other.
For large spikes, skip 2 chs, Tr 5 in 3rd ch, skip 2 chs, sl st in 3rd ch
For medium spikes, skip 2 chs, dc 5 into 3rd ch, skip 1 ch, sl st in 2nd ch
For small spikes, skip 1 ch, dc 5 into 2nd ch, skip 1 ch, sl st in 2nd ch.
Combine the above to match how you want your spikes to sit on your dragon; when you get to the end of the chain, turn your work so that you’re working back up the chain, and mirror your stitches. You should have the correct number of circles, and be able to sl st into the first ch. I had to put Tr 10 into the first ch, since I did not have enough circles, but the ultimate placement worked out.
For the side spikes on the tail, do the following twice: Ch 10, tr 5 in 4th ch from hook, skip 2 chs, tr 10 in last ch, skip 2 sts, tr 5 in the next st (the same st as the initial tr 5), sl st to the first tr, F/O with a long tail. Sew to body, on the sides of the main tail under-gold.
I had to make one circle for the final spike on the tail, by ch 6, tr 5 in 3rd ch from hook, skip 2 chs, sl st into last ch, skip 2 sts on other side of work, tr 5 into next ch (again, where the initial tr 5 is, you’re making a circle), sl st onto first tr and F/O. A magic circle of 6, increasing around to 12, would probably work just as well; so would making the initial golden circles longer to accommodate this spike. I simply lost my spike and didn’t realize it until after I had placed everything.
Hair (make 1 in gold)
1: ch 21, starting in 2nd ch from hook, sc across (20)
2: ch 4, sl st into 2nd ch from hook, sc, in next ch, hdc in last ch, skip a st of row 1, sl st into front loop of next sc. Repeat across the row. Ch 1 and turn at end. (10 spikes)
3: Working in back loops only, sc across, ch 1 and turn (20 sc)
4-7: repeat rows 2-3 twice
F/O, leaving a long tail
Horns (make 2, in cream and turquoise)
In cream:
1: ch 2, sc 4 into 2nd ch from hook (4)
2: sc around (4)
F/O, and turn so that the right side is out. Leave enough tail to sew onto the head.
Using Turquoise, sl st into the cream starting ch. The horns are made from one long chain with different spikes; after slip stitching a new ‘spike’, you’ll continue slip stitching into the original chain.
Ch 12, starting in 2nd ch, sl st 4, ch 4, starting in 2nd ch sl st 6, ch 5, starting in 2nd ch sl st 3, ch 2, starting in 2nd ch sl st 5, ch 3, starting in 2nd ch sl st 4 and F/O (you should have worked all chs)
‘Bangs’(make 1 in gold)
1: ch 7, starting in 2nd ch from hook, sc across (6)
2: ch 4, sl st into 2nd ch from hook, sc, in next ch, hdc in last ch, skip a st of row 1, sl st into front loop of next sc. Repeat across the row. Ch 1 and turn at end. (3 spikes)
3: Working in back loops only, sc, dec, dec, sc, turn (4 sc)
4: rep row 2 (2 spikes)
5: in back loops only, dec twice (2)
6: rep row 2 (1 spike)
F/O, leaving a long tail
Sew this to the forehead of the dragon, directly between the horns – the 6th row points out, the 1st row attaches to the hair
Legs (make 6 in dark blue, 3 left and 3 right):
1: ch 6, join in first ch, sc around (6)
2-7: sc around (6) make sure that you’re working right side out!
8: in front loops only, inc around (12)
9- 10: sc around (12)
Flatten the previous row; you will sc through two stitches at once, closing the opening as you make fingers
RIGHT HAND 11: ch 6, starting in 2nd ch, sl st 5, sc through parallel sts in row 10 twice, *ch 9, starting in 2nd ch, sl st 8, then sc into two parallel stitches in row 10* repeat 3 more times, sl st through the last two parallel scs
LEFT HAND 11: *ch 9, starting in 2nd ch, sl st 8, sc through parallel sts in row 10* repeat 3 more times, sc through parallel sts in row 10 once more, ch 6, starting in 2nd ch sl st 5, sl st through the last two parallel scs.
F/O, leaving the leg unstuffed. You do not need a long tail, just enough to tie off and weave in.
Hips/Shoulders/Haunches (make 6 in cream)
You’ll be working directly into the legs, from their starting chain, and crocheting in the opposite direction. Make sure that the work faces out. Try to plan where you start to be where you want the shoulder to be – in row 6, you’ll begin working only half of the stitches, and they’ll be the stitches in front of your starting position.
1: make a slip st, and join into the starting chain for the legs. Inc around (12)
2: sc, inc around (18)
3-5: sc around (18)
6: sc 9, ch 1 and turn (leaving other sts unworked) (9)
7:  sc 6, dec, F/O
F/O, leaving a long tail. Stuff the haunch, leaving the arm/hand unstuffed.
Ears: (make 2)
Inner Ear (brown)
1: ch 3, sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in last ch, ch 1 and turn (2)
2-4: sc across, ch 1 and turn (2)
5: dec, ch 1 and turn (1)
6: sc, F/O (1) your tail can be short, it won’t be used to fasten anything. I hid mine between ear layers.
Outer Ear (cream)
1: leaving a long tail, ch 4, sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc across, ch 1 and turn (3)
2-4: sc across, ch 1 and turn (3)
5: dec, sc, ch 1 and turn (2)
6: dec, ch 1 and turn (1)
7: sc, ch 1, and turn the work so that you’re working on the edge of the work. Sc into the edge of row 7. Lay an inner ear over the outer ear, and sc into both pieces, along the edge. You’re joining the ear parts together. F/O, leaving a long tail to sew the bottom of the inner ear onto the outer ear. For one of the ears, you’ll have to work backwards or upside down if you don’t want two left ears – or you can just sew both inner ears to the outer ears.
Assembly: Stitch the white head marking to the head. I pinned on the hair, and attached the spikes and under-spike gold. To make this easier, I stuffed and attached each spike onto the under-spike gold first, and then pinned and sewed the gold onto the back (be careful to keep it centered). Then I attached the tail spikes, and stitched down the hair. I added the horns, ears, and bangs, and finally pinned all of the legs. I was careful to keep the legs attached only to the cream, not the brown belly, but that was just a stylistic choice that I made. Finally, you can make and attach the eyes; I used some felt and markers, though I’m not overly pleased with the effect.

Alfred has such an "I didn't sign up for this" vibe but he's had several chances to just leave at this point. I could totally see him coming back to life and being just as mad as Jason for petty reasons.
Sure, he has legitimate gripes with the Batfamily. He might have felt pressured into parenting Bruce, who I'm sure was a difficult child. Maybe he thought Bruce had nowhere better to go. Once Bruce was an adult, however, he was home free. I'm sure Bruce would have given him a generous retirement package.
So, yeah, petty villain Alfred when?
At the same time tho I don't see alfred as being a good (as in interesting) villain someone else sent me an ask that I can't find but they said alfred gives off Jacob rees-mogg vibes which yeah evil alfred is just a member of the UK Conservative party which like currently good alfred is also apart of the Conservative party (tho do find people's arguments that he a Blair lib dem very convincing) so maybe evil alfred is actually a member of reform UK
