“support” - Jegulus microfic - @into-the-jeggyverse - 443 words
“James? Could you come into the living room for a minute?” Sirius asks him.
“Sure.”
James follows Sirius into the living room and Regulus and Remus are already there. Sirius goes to sit in the chair beside Remus and James sits beside Regulus.
“What’s going on?” James asks them.
Sirius looks down, fidgeting with his hands and Regulus takes one of James’ hands. “Sirius has something to tell you.” Regulus says with a sigh.
“Are you okay?” James asks Sirius then turns to Regulus. “Are you okay?”
Oh, I’m fine.” Regulus says lightly. “I’m only here because Sirius thinks you’re going to need emotional support.”
“He will, Regulus! He’s going to be devastated!” Sirius gives James a solemn look.
“Okay, someone tell me what’s going on because you’re starting to scare me.”
Sirius takes a deep breath. “Okay, well… erm… someone that Moons works with is moving out of their flat.” Sirius starts slowly. “And… well, they asked us if we’d be interested in taking over their lease… and… erm… we said yes.” Sirius finishes with a wince.
“You guys got your own flat?” James asks and Sirius nods very slowly. “Congratulations guys! That’s amazing!—”
“James…” Sirius cuts off James’ excitement. “It means we’re moving out.”
“Yeah! I’m excited for you both!” James says then turns to Regulus. “And that means—" Regulus is already smiling back at James. “—We’re going to be here. Just the two of us. Are you ready for that?” James asks and Regulus nods as his smile gets bigger and James leans in to kiss him.
“James!” Sirius interrupts them. “I’m not going to live here anymore!” He practically shouts.
“Yeah, I sort of figured that part out.”
Sirius huffs. “Why aren’t you devastated?”
“Am I supposed to be?” James asks Regulus, very confused.
“Apparently so. Do you need emotional support?” Regulus asks with faux sincerity.
“Oh… erm… yes?”
“There, there.” Regulus deadpans as he pats James on the shoulder.
“This is ridiculous! Aren’t you going to miss me?!” Sirius is still shouting.
“Of course! But we’re still going to see each other all the time.” James tells him “And Pads. We’ve lived together for fifteen years. I think we’re ready to try something new.”
Sirius huffs again and crosses his arms, slumping back in his chair. “You should at least be a little heartbroken.” He grumbles.
“Do you need emotional support, Sirius?” Regulus asks him.
“Fuck off, Regulus.” Sirius stands up.
“I really will miss you, Pads.” James tells him.
“Whatever.” Sirius mumbles as he stomps out of the room, Remus trailing behind him rolling his eyes.
“I think we should turn their room into a study.” Regulus says casually.

Hear me out:
Sirius travels to the future and goes to Hogwarts, he sees Remus as a professor and flirts with him and that kind of shit. It’s an au where Sirius in that timeline hasn’t escaped from Azkaban. He questions shit and Remus eventually tells him that he killed Lily, James and Peter and that he’s now in Azkaban and he can’t accept it, he has a mental breakdown. He finds out about what happened to the others like Marlene, Dorcas, Evan, Barty, Mary, Pandora etc. And he sees Luna yk and thinks about Pandora and he’s like “wait I thought Pandora was with Lily?”
then together they figure out what really happened cuz they see Peter on the marauders map. And they deal with him.
Then Sirius sees Harry and goes: “holy shit he looks just like James!! Am I an uncle?” And when Harry gets a little closer, he goes: “wait- his eyes? Why does he have blue eyes?” And Remus has to explain to him that Regulus joined the death eaters and died when he was 17 and that Harry’s mother is Lily and Sirius goes through another mental breakdown. And after he’s calmed down, he’s like: “so I’m not his uncle?” And Remus is like: “you’re the godfather.” And Sirius cheers up a little.
And when he sees that Harry is in love with Draco he is like: why do the potters have smth for the snarky, sad, depressed, Slytherin seekers who’s mean to them. And ppl from the black family. (I count Draco as a black cuz Narcissa is a black so yeah) (Regulus and Draco both getting the dark mark cuz they were forced😭😭😭)
and when Harry gets a tiny crush on ginny sirius goes like: HIS BEST MATES SIBLING?! OH LOOK HOW FUNNY SHES A GINGER TOO! ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME!? See moony I told you it’s in his genes. (You can decide yourself if it’s endgame hinny or Drarry)
And he sees the Weasley twins and he’s like: “they’re my new idols!!” And Remus is like: “We’re their idols actually”
And he sees himself and James in Ron and Harry.
And after a few months when Sirius has caught up with everything, he flirts with Remus and is like: “you know moony I’m horny” and Remus is like: “well I can’t do anything about it, that would be pedophilia” and Sirius is like disappointed. But they eventually have sex (help😭Sirius is like 15 or 16 btw) and Sirius is like: “yOuR cOcK hAs GrOwN”. They take every chance they get to make out. And Remus is like: “oh how much I’ve missed this, missed you”
(They’re at Hogwarts btw) (it’s up to you if he pretends like he’s a student or if he’s hiding in Remus’ room) (but some professors would know if Sirius pretended like he was a student) (maybe he goes in disguise with polyjuice potion or smth?)
(He meets Harry if he’s just hiding and tells him everything but if you decide him to disguise as a student then he just watches from afar and doesn’t talk to him often.)
Remus asks him if this counts as cheating on his past self. And Sirius is like: “no you’re still you, so cheating on you with you is impossible”
Mcgonagall finds out about Sirius but doesn’t tell anyone.
Oh and it takes place during PoA and GoF. But the events just don’t happen, it’s like a normal Hogwarts year. So yeah no voldy coming back. Or no Sirius escaping Azkaban.
You can decide if Remus stays at Hogwarts during GoF or not, like the events didn’t happen so he doesn’t have to leave. But it’s up to you if he leaves and lives with Sirius in his house during GoF. But they’re definitely at Hogwarts during PoA.
and a bit to the end of GoF they figure out a way to send Sirius back to the 70s. Sirius says goodbye to everyone and leaves (Remus is like FUCKING sad cuz he has no one left) and as soon as Sirius is back he begs his brother to run away with him so that that terrible things don’t happen and he talks to James and Remus about Peter, and they do smth to fix that.
So yeah that was it
SOMEONE WRITE THIS PLEASE!!

I saw in a YouTube video, and on a few comments thanks to a couple of people on Tumblr that Nicky was originally supposed to be Theodore's son. Let me just write a storyline on how that would play out.
So Ted and Luanne were married before Ted and Diane, and Luanne used to be his housewife. Soon after they got married and had XXX, Luanne gave birth to Nicky and that's when Nicky was first known as Nicholas Michael Peterson.
Things started out okay. Ted really loved Nicky. He held him in his buff arms, and sang him a lullaby, the same lullaby that he did in Waking Nightmares. Tom, Tom, the Piper's son. Nicky even liked that booming laugh Ted had, whenever he laughed, the baby laughed too. Nicky made Ted so happy.
But things slowly got rocky.
Ted started becoming more focused on work. Spending more time at work, less time at home, and even less time with his family. Luanne got fed up and the two had a big fight, resulting in a divorce. Luanne got full custody of Nicky, but wouldn't allow Ted to see him.
After the divorce, Ted developed depression and anger issues. A year later, he met Diane and was happy to find out that she was recently divorced and already had two kids, Aaron and Mya. However, Ted never told her about his past family.
But even after he married her, that woman and those children kept reminding him of what he lost. He missed Luanne and Nicky, but he still loved Diane and her kids though, they filled in his empty heart, just not completely.
One day, he tracked Luanne down, and was absolutely furious when he found out that she married some other man named James (Jay) Roth. He went to their house, kidnapped Nicky, and drove off, trying to make it back to his house. Unfortunately, his car got hit by a street lamp.
In his coma, he had an encounter with a demon (The Guest) who said that his baby was dying because the street lamp hit him. He begged the demon not to let him die, to save him. The demon agreed, but with a heavy price. Nicky would have no memory of him. Ted agreed, and fell deeper into depression. But hey, at least the baby lived.
Years passed, and the Roths now live across the street from the Petersons. When Aaron first brought Nicky over, Ted nearly fainted upon hearing his name. Ted wanted nothing more than to just lift him up in his arms and hug him, but he remembered the deal he had with the demon and how Nicky has absolutely no memory of him. Ted also hated when Nicky called him Mr. Peterson.
Also, part of the reason why Luanne didn't want to invite the Petersons over for dinner was because she knew Ted and didn't want Nicky to find out he was his real father.
Anyways, fast forward through all the canon stuff. Diane dies, Mya falls off the roof, Ted locks Aaron in the basement, Nicky spies on Mr. Peterson to try and save him, and ends up getting kidnapped by Ted.
Ted is overjoyed to finally have his son back, and does everything to try to help him remember. Showing him pictures, and singing him that creepy lullaby he always liked, trying to make him call him dad, but all that did was make Nicky more scared. Every time Nicky tried escaping, Ted felt guilty every time he had to hurt him or drug him.
And while this was going on, Luanne was currently having panic attacks and mental breakdowns, thinking about how Ted could've been the one that kidnapped him, since he was her ex-husband.
After Nicky escapes, Luanne doesn't even need to ask where he's been the past 2 months. She felt like she already knew. And boy she was so close to killing Mr. Peterson.
Fast forward years later, Nicky is all grown up. After Act 3, Nicky eventually finds out on his mother's death bed that Jay wasn't his real father. He suddenly remembers all the things that Ted did to him as a baby. All of the cradling, singing, and hugs. He now understands why Ted was trying so hard to make him remember all of that, he was his real father.
He finds out that Ted is still alive, but in prison. He pays his bail, and tells him everything his mother told him. They have a small family reunion, and Nicky's first thought is to find Aaron and tell him about all of this. Ted is hesitant at first, but then he realizes that Aaron has a right to know.
He tracks Aaron down, and they learn that he's been staying with Quentin Gershowitz back in Germany. As soon as they find Aaron, Nicky explains everything to him. Aaron's reluctant to accept it at first, considering Ted never told him about any of this, but eventually forgives Ted since he realized his best friend was also his stepbrother.
They all live together happily ever after.
(Sorry if this is a shitty storyline, I just came up with all of this off the top of my head.)

Prongsfoot Week - Day 6
Thoughts for this Ship - shipping questions
Who cooks?
They move into their flat after Hogwarts and realise with horror that they have to feed themselves now. They don't know how to do that so they get cookbooks and try. They live off beans on toast and leftovers from Sunday dinner at the Potters' for a few weeks until they get the hang of it. They both cook, though they prefer doing it together because that's how they learned.
Who’s the messiest?
"It's not mess, it's controlled chaos!" (James & Sirius, probably)
Who fixes the vehicle after a breakdown?
Depends on the vehicle. If it's the motorcycle it's Sirius, if it's their brooms it's James. They like the open air too much for a car.
Going out to eat: Who pays?
Whoever's got a wallet most handy. They don't really do mine vs yours and have more money than they need so it doesn't matter.
Who orders the most food?
Sirius, but James usually ends up eating it
Baths or showers?
Showers (the why belongs under nsfw)
Can they stand silence?
Yes, but they hate being alone.
NSFW
How often do they have sex, if at all?
Either they don't (I'm a fan of ace!Sirius) Or, they go at it constantly at first because it's new and they don't know this part of each other yet and it's so exciting. Eventually it becomes one of several fun thing they do together and it slows down a bit.
Who brings ideas? Who initiates?
Both
Oddest place they’d have sex?
In the black lake or on Sirius's motorcycle (preferably while flying)
Dom/top? Sub/bottom?
They take turns
Quickest turn ons?
They both have competency kinks. And Sirius has developed a pavlovian response to seeing James on his knees. James has a thing for Sirius in belts, especially when he starts to take it off.
Who’s loud? Who’s quiet? Does one try to make the other louder/quieter? How?
They're both loud and have an unspoken competition to make the other be as loud as possible. Especially when they're somewhere sort of public and the other is trying really hard to be quiet.

So i have this little problem with evermore the album I don’t think i had fully digested folklore before evermore came out so i couldn’t fully emerge myself in it if that makes any sense lol anyway i was hoping to ask about a few songs and your take on them if that’s ok with you :)
Ivy
Tis the damn season
so folklore and evermore both function as more of a sandbox than anything in my mind, where i like to take existing songs and then be like, oh seven is the story of betty and augusts childhood friendship but betty had to move away because of her parents divorce, my tears ricochet is from augusts pov after she heard james got back together with his ex, etc etc (and these daydreams change all the time like sometimes this is me trying is adult james, sometimes it’s betty, sometimes it’s betty’s dad, yknow whatever gets the story done)
tis the damn season is like, the load bearing stone in all of my evermore daydreams. i love the way it can tie into almost every other song on the album— dorothea, obviously, but also the idea that if this love was ever to work she would have to wreck her plans, that she moved to la and left her relationship in tatters like champagne problems, her prickliness and reticence to get in a new relationship in gold rush, becoming disillusioned with fame and the surface level relationships in coney island and evermore. personally i like to add a relationship with a cowboy like me type that eventually descends into tolerate it levels before returning home, but that’s just me
even on its own merits, i love that taylor found an incredible common experience (returning home for the holidays, feeling simultaneously stuck in and comforted by your past self, and hooking up with your hometown ex) that doesn’t get sung about often. i love when she sings about love as something inconvenient that she would rather not experience, and i love when she writes really mean stand-offish lyrics and sings them in such a way that forced you to see the deep love underneath. like there’s something so fanfiction-y (in the best way) about putting “if i wanted to know who you were hanging with while i was gone i would’ve asked you” in a love song— it’s something you find in books or tv shows or movies, more long form content that gives the author the space to make it obvious that the character is saying it out of jealousy, not malice, and taylor has the balls to drop it in a song and trust listeners to pick up on it without any other context clues. and the whole song does that, builds a three-dimensional character out of her complicated love for the people and places she inhabits, and it works so well.
the instrumentals of ivy are my favorite thing about the song— the way they all stutter over themselves, the tentative horns, the gasping backing vocals in the bridge, it all feels like falling in love in careful little tiptoes. just like tis the damn season it builds a character out of her love for someone else, but a different kind of person— ivy is tentative and sweet and doomed by her own inaction, where tis the damn season is prickly and cold and doomed by her ambition. it’s just. it’s such a good song but in order to do the lyrics justice i feel like i would need a line by line breakdown and this post is already too long. but just. every metaphor for love she uses is something destructive, how she moves from something god has forgotten to someone god has damned, how the song opens with “the old widow goes to the (tomb)stone everyday” and the refrain is “my house of stone,” it’s just so well thought out

Z Cars - Pressure (20 September 1978)
Talking Pictures TV's truncated reruns of surviving Z Cars episodes from the 1970s ended yesterday with the broadcast of Pressure, the final ever episode of the show broadcast in 1978 (not to be confused with an earlier episode of the show bearing the same title in 1974).
A slightly extended episode of the show running almost an hour compared to most episodes seen that ran between 45 and 50 minutes, the longer run-time is justified as this final episode packs a lot in to end the show on a high. In addition to the cast of characters who were regulars by this time, Brian Blessed, Colin Welland, Jeremy Kemp and Joseph Brady (all listed under a 'Special Appearances' caption in the end credits) who had all played regular characters in the show's early days reappear in small cameo roles playing different characters.
Meanwhile, Frank Windsor reprises his role of John Watt, now promoted to chief superintendent, having last been seen in Z Cars in 1965 and in the meantime having appeared in a bunch of spinoffs alongside his partner, Stratford Johns' Charlie Barlow (who does not appear in Pressure) including Softly Softly and Softly Softly: Task Force. John Philips, who had occasionally played Chief Constable Robins at times during the show's history also reprises his role.
Many plotlines run simultaneously during this episode, with none especially receiving precedence above all the others. As a detailed breakdown of all these plotlines would run too long, here are the basic outlines of each one:
Ferris (Tony Haygarth) returns home to Newtown from Amsterdam newly rich searching for his wife and children, flashing his cash everywhere, he eventually runs into trouble with both the police and muggers.
Inspector Lynch (James Ellis) looks after Danny Parton (Michael Gordon), a young boy who has been left alone after his mother and brother left home.
A dangerous gas leak has developed which may force an evacuation of the affected area, Inspector Lynch has to repeatedly reassure residents reporting the leak at the police station the matter is being dealt with.
Watt interviews Boley (Alun Armstrong), a detective superintendent accused of corruption, which eventually gets Robins involved as Boley is an old friend of his.
Major Philpot (Gavin Richards) assesses Newtown police station's potential for defensive improvements against violent attack.
Each of these plotlines provides their own moments of interest and there are some great performances too, most particularly from Tony Haygarth and Gavin Richards as Ferris and Major Philpot. Both characters are extremely memorable, particularly Ferris' talent for coming up with rhymes for whatever situation he finds himself in and Philpot's bizarre approach to improving police station security, where he even distrusts the potted plant on display in the police station's front office!
Indeed, there is a lot of great wit and humor in this episode while also providing some drama and tension, most notably with the gas leak plotline. Also, having appeared as a regular all throughout the show's life, it's fitting this final episode puts Inspector Lynch in the spotlight once more with James Ellis reliably playing the character as well as he always did.
The episode's final moments, and indeed those of the whole show bring events to a close in a magnificent manner. As Inspector Lynch bids farewell to Watt, who will soon be retiring from the force while Lynch must wait a few years more before his own retirement ("If I don't go mad first" as Lynch qualifies his statement), Major Philpot is ready to demonstrate the new steel shutters he has installed. The episode ends with the shutters descending, symbolically bringing the series to a close.
It is a simple ending, but utterly beautiful in it's simplicity, a superb ending to a fitting finale for one of British TV's finest police shows. While this rerun of Z Cars was ultimately truncated and skipped significant gaps between episodes despite the majority of episodes from this time period surviving, Talking Pictures TV announced that they will one day be showing the earlier black and white episodes (having begun these reruns with The Cinder Path from 1973), I hope I will get to see them too as generally I have greatly enjoyed the episodes that have been shown and wish to see more.

hi!! could you do some soft hannibal or will hcs? or some soft remus lupin hcs? if not thats fine!
a/n: ayyyyyy
first off i just want to say sorry for not posting a lot these days. shit happened here but now im back (for now) to do hcs!
second off, yall are gonna hate me for this but i dont actually watch hannibal soooo, i dont know how to write for him and such... but remus lupin? fahajshwheahakhd gotchu
third off, high school/past au because i just want to write remus being goofy and also a bit anxious on his nature
anyways, onto the hcs!
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
remus never thought he'll fall in love really
he was more focused on trying to stop his chaotic friends from causing more mayhem but get dragged into it
and his small problem being a warewolf to keep secret
besides, remus has some high expectations even if he doesnt want to admit it
remus would like someone to be soft and caring
loving him and be understanding towards his little warewolf problem (if he tells them)
and most important, he may not have thought about his partner's gender as he was more going to focused on personality really, but still, remus would have liked a female partner
so, imagine his surprise when he caught feelings on a certain [hogwarts house] boy the same year as him?
remus was confused at first
he didnt know what he was feeling and his friends noticed it
remus didnt really want to confide with them, but he knew sooner or later, theyll find out eventually like how they discovered his secret
so, he told them his confusing feelings
and let me tell you, the three boys looked at him confused at first until they looked each other with shit eating grins
well, sirius and james have those shit eating grins while peter looked a bit excited at him
"guess potter isnt the only lovesick puppy huh?" sirius teased as the three began to laugh
until james realized sirius was saying he was a "lovesick puppy" towards lily, which immediately made him shout a unamused "hey! i do not!"
as sirius and james began to banter at each other and peter was trying to be the peacemaker, remus took a second to process what his friend just said
until the realization hit in and made remus red and stuttering mess
remus was in denial, to the amusement of his friends
he cant be!
he wasnt gay— not that being gay is a problem or anything, he never just expected him to be one
he didnt like [name] like that way, right???
he barely knew the guy!!!
remus was in denial for a few days until his friend had snapped some sense to him
by literally dragging [name] to their lunch table
they didnt care if [name] was in another house or not, they still dragged his ass over and made him sit next to remus who was having an internal breakdown
apparently sirius, james and peter decided to be remus' wingman, even if remus didnt want them too
but anyways
sirius, james and peter would ask [name] questions as they ate, wanting to getting to know their future buddy and trying to slip remus in the conversation
they thought they were slick at it, but nope!
they arent
"so [name]? watcha like to do?"
"oh, well i like literatur—"
"you know, our buddy remus likes books too!"
"really? thats nice. i also like chocolat—"
"chocolates?!? wow! our buddy o pal remus has a massive sweet tooth, did you know that?"
"maybe you both could go to honeydukes together this weekend!"
they were that bad
they werent subtle at all
remus is just internally suffering
why was his friends like this?
why was he even friends with them?
remus was super embarrassed but to his utter surprise— [name] actually seemed to be down on visiting honeydukes with him to buy some sweets
of course, [name] didnt really think on it other than a friendly hang out (at first)
but to the three, this was the start to hook their beloved puppy remus to [name]
it took a while but [name] and remus' relationship grown closer and a few months, they finally got together
it almost took a year for them to realize their feeling for each other (remus and [name]) if it wasnt for that mistletoe accident in the greathall on christmas day
sirius and james were bragging that they were the ones to have placed those mistletoe there
but thats a lie
peter did and the two placed mistletoes in other rooms
peter was the smart one to put a mistletoe under above the entrance of the door while sirius and james literally decorated every corner of the great hall with mistletoe because apparently they thought it would made sure remus and [name] would kiss
and that james was also trying to get a kiss from lily under those mistletoes too because it was "romantic" and that itll make her definitely "fall in love" with him
but anyways, [name] was soft for remus and remus was soft for [name]
the two only have little bumps in their relationship but mostly, they try to understand each other and hear one another out
remus always liked their tradition on winter to cuddle in front of the fireplace in the gryffindor common room
remus prefers to be the small spoon but wouldnt mind cuddling [name] too
he likes to be held since he could snuggle and hear [name]'s calming heartbeat
of course those moments are sometimes destroyed by his friends inserting themselves to their cuddle sessions
but remus wouldnt have it either way
[name] doesnt mind aswell
it was annoying at first but over time, he grown fond of remus' friends
another sweet thing that [name] does that makes remus so soft is that [name] makes sure that he is loved
[name] seems to noticed when he is down and will always give him a soft peck on his forehead, embrace him tightly and mutter how much he is adored
[name] also doesnt questions on the scars he had obtained over his little problem
in fact, [name] just reminds him that [name] loves him so much
[name] makes him feel loved and always tell him that he is beautiful in [name]'s eyes
when remus told [name] about him being a warewolf
remus was terrified and thought [name] leave him
but this guy was so full of surprises
[name] was a bit shock and was quiet for a while, but then he just embraces remus tightly and running his hands over remus' hair and whispers he still loves remus no matter what
remus cried that day
what have he even done to deserve [name]?
he doesnt know but he was happy to meet the guy who loves him, even with all his flaws
remus was sure [name] was the one and he hopes he'll get to be a [last name] in the far future

I think you are the right person to talk about Oliver. And this fandom does not talk enough about Oliver. I would love to read an little essay about greatness of Oliver and his importance in the band. Plus any reasons why you think he is the coolest member of Rammstein :)
Rammstein's Enigma

Out of all of Rammstein's members, bassist Oliver Riedel is by far the one we know the least about. The allegedly most tech-savvy and youngest one in the group is ironically enough the one without any social media presence. Since 2010, he has evaded the media in general. Oliver does not seem to do interviews anymore. The Making of Mein Land in 2011 was the last Making of where he talked to the camera.
The most common description of the soon to be 50-year-old man is that he is tall. This description is quite correct. Oliver is allegedly around 2 metres tall. Despite his height, he is slim, fit, and well-proportioned.
Furthermore, he is known to be silent. This also seems to be true, at least in public settings. In interviews, he has told that he was extremely shy when he was young. In addition, he has said that he was bad at school, and while he understands English, he is the only band member who hasn't given an interview in English. This could be a contributing factor to the lack of media appearances. There are very few known recordings of Oliver speaking English, which make those few words even more precious.
So what makes Oliver great and important to the band? Since I am lazy, I will give a few bullet point breakdown of a few things:
- His height is great (ok, bad joke)
- Oliver was the first one that Richard invited to what eventually became Rammstein. At that point, Oliver was not even a proper bassist. He was a classical guitarist who substituted for the bass player of The Inchtabokatables while she had a child. Though Richard still recruited him as a bass player, which suggests that he really wanted Oliver to join.
- Richard was the first Rammstein member that Oliver got to know. While the two of them aren't seen that often together, they shared some memorable moments of affection in public; the jump hug and the forehead rub are well known, but they often seek together at some point during concerts and just rock it out together.
- Oliver is calm and seems to enjoy a simple life. When you sell all your stuff to live in an old mobile home, or voluntarily choose a tiny bed in a tiny tree house when you're that tall, then you don't care much about luxury. Even Oliver's signature bass has a hardcore aged look.
- His calmness makes him a really good fit for a band where there are multiple strong personalities. Like Jacob Hellner said: "You can't have five Lars Ulrichs or James Hetfields in a band, that would be a disaster. Olli and Flake are on the surface more low-key, but are very, very important."
- Oliver is playful. He likes sports and has introduced Paul to surfing. We can see glimpses of his playfulness in the Making of Rosenrot; when he pushed Flake on a flight case into a Meet & Greet; when he tried to set his farts on fire; or when he sailed the crowd in the rubber dingy.
- He has a thing for masks and headgear, and his costumes are always pretty awesome.
- Oliver genuinely seems to enjoy being on stage. I like to think that it's because he gets to do what he loves with his friends. Those who manage to see past Paul and Till in front of him, can see many great moments, like when he leans on his bass, or just go full rock mode.
- He seems to love to spend time with his family, and he has managed to separate his work and his private life really well considering his position.
...and there are so many other things, but there is no way I can list everything. I would need more specific asks for that.
To round this off, I think it is important to remember that out of the members, Oliver is the one that has more or less grown up with Rammstein. He was only 22 years old when he joined, and while he did train as a plasterer, he hasn't really had much of a regular job. Sometimes I wonder what he would be like if he had just been an ordinary man and not a rock star?
Probably pretty awesome still.
--
This is the first ask I have received, and the task of writing an essay about Oliver Riedel is quite daunting. I hope you are not disappointed. Thank you for the ask!

what would our wedding with the sub bois be like? male significant other plz. headcannon or drabbles your choice
Imagining how happy they would all be at their wedding 🥺that's the sweetest!
Zemo:
He would be anxious to get married if we are going with a timeline where before he was married to his wife and ya know, also if you two are on the run so he doesn't go back to jail. He would feel like he can't give you the life you might want as he might not be able to always be around you, plus he doesn't want to lose you. Still, when you convince him you want to get married, it does make him so happy as he is quite a traditionalist and loves the concept of marriage. It would be a small wedding, maybe Bucky and Sam are there. I feel like Zemo would enjoy walking down the aisle in a white suit, with his butler walking along with him. You two would have your own vowels. and Zemo might be a bit soppy saying how much he loves you but truly he means it. I also think Zemo would definitely want to throw a bouquet as well even if there are not many people there (it lands on Bucky much to Sam's amusement) Zemo would get one of his favourite cars which you would drive as the two of you leave to get a flight to a deserted island to spend your honeymoon where you shower your now husband with so much love.
Laszlo:
It would have to be a very private affair given how gay marriage was illegal. So naturally, it would have to be a small wedding but that also suits Laszlo very well, he wouldn't like a big event. I think I have already made Laszlo and male partner wedding headcanon on my main account but I'll bring over points from that. Theodore would be the one who marries you two, being the president at that time he has the rights and it means you two don't have to go through the hassle of finding a priest who would do it. I see Sara, John, the twins, Stevie, Cryus and maybe even the institute kids being there. (Laszlo teaches the kids there that love is love so they are all fine with it and won't go telling to people who would disapprove) I feel like for this you and Laszlo would walk down the aisle together. John is the best man and ring bearer and is behind you two. Laszlo definitely wrote his vowels and it would be quite long but he would get choked up as he recites them because he can't believe he is getting married, that he has found someone who loves him for who he is. He never thought it would happen. You two probably wouldn't go anywhere special for a honeymoon. Either you get Laszlo to stay at home for a few days and not go to the institute or you two might go to the countryside. I feel like Laszlo would go and see his father after as well. Not even to say anything but even though he and his father have a bad relationship, he needs to see him, like 'look at what I've been able to do. Look how happy I am'
Andrea:
Once again because of the time, a very private affair. There might even be fewer people than at Laszlo and Zemo's wedding because in England the two of you only really know the village folk and they might not be as accepting. I want to believe Janet and Ursula would be but then again at the same time Ursula especially might not be (because of jealously) but even if you only get to invite a few of Andrea's musician friends who are okay with it, Andrea still loves your wedding day. He would get really into the planning of it, trying to decide if he wants a white suit or to wear a nice dress, what music he wants to play, learning how to dance so he can dance with you. It would be in a lovely caple when it is empty. His musician friends would play music as he comes down the aisle, smiling happily at you. One of his friends would marry you, it may not be legal but that doesn't matter to the two of you, it's the principle of the concept. He would definitely start to cry tears of happiness. It might be hard to do, but maybe you and Andrea go over to Poland for your honeymoon, as Andrea would love to show you around where he grew up, maybe even meet the family!
Niki:
While gay marriage is still not legalised as of yet, gay partnerships are becoming more widely accepted and more people are slowly starting to come out. Niki probably wouldn't see much of a point in a wedding, especially if it isn't legal but after you tell him all the things you will do to him on the honeymoon, he gives in. When you start planning though he becomes a perfectionist in wanting all the details perfect. You tease him with how invested he becomes. For an F1 driver, he doesn't like that much attention on him during something like a romantic setting (hence why in the film they just get married at a registry) so he wouldn't invite that many people and would make you walk down the aisle with him. Both of you would be wearing some nice blue matching suits and the actual wedding bit, is a bit short as his vowels are very short. Afterwards, he goes around and shakes people's hands, thanks them for coming, even James appears wishing Niki a good marriage. He would be excited for it to end though because he can't wait for the honeymoon, you two swimming, you chasing him up to the bedroom...
Ernst:
I feel like Ernst would want to wait till you two were back on Earth to get married, so all your friends and family could be there. But when it seems like you lot might not be able to get back to Earth, he agrees to have the wedding on the ship. Everyone is so excited about it, trying to help with planning and giving all their idea's which makes Ernst quite anxious. He is not a very open person and he doesn't like people getting that involved in his business especially something like this which is really private to him. He wouldn't be too fussed about any traditions, he just wants a nice simple wedding. They are able to get one of the crew legally registered to marry the two of you, and everyone is cheering as you both arrive and go to the spot, slipping the rings on and saying some simple vowels. There isn't much of a honeymoon so the two of you just stay in your room for a few days and everyone leaves you alone.
Alex:
Once again a smaller thing, it might not even be a proper wedding as I don't see Alex being like really the wedding type, but anything you want to do, he is honestly happy to do. He wants you to be happy. How you two get married means a lot to him though. Especially after his parents splitting up, he wants a marriage that will last and he knows it will be with you. He has never been so sure that you are his life partner. He is so happy when you slip the wedding ring onto him but later when you two are just dancing with each other and have no one else around, he confesses to you that he wished his mother would have been around to see him get married.
Sebastian:
He might drunkenly ask you to marry him and then gawk at you when you bring it up the next day saying that you were going to marry him. He likes a sense of freedom and doesn't like to feel settled down, and is constantly saying he wants to skip to the honeymoon. But when the day actually comes, you are surprised at the effort he puts into it, brushing his hair, getting a suit that isn't old and doesn't have stains, and when you two are standing at the front, holding hands, as he says his vowels you can tell he truly means them. Of course, by the end of the night, he is winning at you about how badly he wants you and so you have to cut it short to take him to your hotel.
David:
Such an anxious boy. He is trying to plan everything so it is perfect for the two of you but he finds it hard to cope with everything he needs to do. Eventually, he has a breakdown and you need to help calm him down and help him plan it. When the day comes around though it is perfect and everyone is telling you how lovely it is and it makes David so happy. He is quite shy about standing in front of everyone but he still insists he wants to do the first dance with you. Slowly as he drinks more and more he becomes more open and enjoys himself and by the end, you might be taking a drunk David home, but your honeymoon might be one of the best things you two have experienced.
Tony:
Tony screams perfectionist. As soon as you propose and he accepts, he is figuring out all the details for the wedding, spending lots of money on it even when you say you want to pay for stuff. He doesn't mean to be so controlling, as he certainly isn't in some circumstances, but he had secretly always wanted a wedding and to finally get it with the man he loves means everything to him and he wants it to be an unforgettable night. So many famous people are there, lots of social media posts about it, the food is the best (and a reason why a lot of people turned up) and honestly Tony can not let you go, he is either kissing you, hugging you or holding your hand and he is always looking over at you and smiling because he is so goddam happy to finally be married to the love of his life.
Alex Garel:
He would want something very simple. He is quite introverted and doesn't even though that many people so there wouldn't be a lot of people there. He likely wouldn't want to get married in a church, maybe in your own home. Still what matters is the actual confession about always loving each other and being there for each other and the exchanging of rings, and you swear at that moment you had never seen him smile so much. You two might not even go anywhere for your honeymoon. Just have him taking a weeks break from working on his robots so you two can spend your time together and it's all just so sweet.

How is your mood? I really hope that everything is fine with you! I would like to ask you to write something for me. How will Jack Sparrow, Cutler Beckett, James Norrington, Armando Salazar and Davey Jones react to the fact that the girl is very kind and someone uses this kindness. Thank you☺️
Of course it’s been too long since I had a potc request
(I do not own PoTC or it’s characters/ gifs not mine)
Jack Sparrow
To get one thing clear Jack loves that despite living in such a horrific world you are incredibly kind it’s part of the reason he fell for you you are the jewel among stones in his eyes
So when you come to him near tears over someone walking all over you and misusing your kindness he is angry beyond belief
In all actuality Jack would probably know the person was not good and would end up pulling something before they did anything and would try his best to keep you away from them by means of kisses, pretending to be hurt or straight up picking you up and pulling you away
But you being you were endlessly kind and patient towards them
All you have to do is mutter what happened and Jack will take you to his cabin to make you feel better he hates seeing you cry and as much as he’s angry he’d rather you were okay
He fetches two bottles of rum and returns to you his plan is to go after them when you’re asleep that way he doesn’t stress you out even more but he does do a much better job than anyone would know at making you feel better
He can have you laughing within an hour, he often pulls you up to dance and drink or if you’re in a solemn mood he’ll take off his shoes and drag you to his chest to lay down and cuddle for a while or he’ll take you up on deck to watch the stars and he will give you his captains coat to make you feel warm
Jack doesn’t care if it takes him a minute or a year the people that hurt you will pay even if it means getting the whole crew involved you’re the one person he’ll protect to no end
Cutler Beckett
He’s livid almost more livid than Jack it’s actually rather scary there’s a dangerous fire in his eyes and despite being so upset you wonder if him knowing would upset him too much
However Beckett found sympathy and care for you a long time ago you seem to be the one person he cares about to no end which in a way makes the punishment for those that hurt you far more severe
He orders everyone out leading you to the nearest seat or his bed before ordering his men to capture and imprison those that took advantage of your kindness
The chances that Beckett knows who they are are high, he has eyes and ears all over the place and in a world so corrupt he likes to have an eye on you - not in a suffocating or creepy way but he likes to know you’re safe and with the right people
He makes you tea or pours some wine and asks you tell him what happened that way he decides how severely they should be punished
Typically Beckett is not affectionate or touchy in the slightest but you bring out a softer side to him and he’s more afraid of touch as he perceives it as weakness but he’ll hold you or let you talk and vent for as long as you need
Honestly it’s best if you also have a say in how the person or people go about being punished since Beckett can and will get too ruthless when it comes to you - you balance each other out and that way will come to a reasonable solution
James Norrington
Like Jack and Beckett he is furious to see you so upset from the doing of someone you trusted and took pity upon to share your kindness with
But all his rage and resent is pushed aside when he sees your eyes swimming with tears and your overall mood deflated and solemn you will always be James’ main concern and top priority
James is a huge softie deep down and he is the most affectionate in general should it come to this he loves and adores you and will stop at nothing to make sure you’re eyes sparkle with happiness
James is almost as upset as you are let him pick you up and hold you as close as he can, he’ll sit upright on the bed with you in his lap both arms tight around your waist
If you decide to rant James will listen in silence in his eyes it’s best to get it out of your system rather than bottle it up if you cry his grip will tighten and cease to falter and he’ll place kisses on your forehead whilst slowly rubbing circles in your back or arms
James gets most concerned if you go completely silent and just lay there he’ll try talking to you, make you your favourite food or drink, read you a chapter from a book you love he’ll get rather desperate to see you happy
Despite being an absolute softie and cuddly person towards you he can be the worst nightmare for anyone of the recieving end of his anger
He doesn’t get you involved with what he does to the person that hurt you but he’ll make sure they won’t do much as look at you wrong again before returning straight home to cuddle with you
Salazar
Anyone that hurt you will wish and pray they didn’t you may be kind and merciful however Salazar is not and you also know that, the best option is probably to hide what happened if you want them to live
Chances are Salazar would find out a littler sooner than you would’ve liked he can sense you’re upset, your body language is off and you’ve withdrawn
Despite his fearsome reputation he really does love you he may not be the best at it but he does try and keep his anger under control to comfort you even if it means letting you relax into his embrace
Just be weary, the second he leaves you and steps on deck he’s shouting orders to find and bring the ones that wronged you to him and they’re found pretty quickly too
God forbid it’s a member of his crew he’ll make them fear every inch of the world and get revenge it the most horrific ways possible just note when Salazar wants revenge he’s hell bent on it you’re such a rareness in the world and Salazar will not back down in defending you
If it’s someone you know and they’ve taken a serious emotional toll on you they’re practically already dead Salazar will hunt them down and in the meantime spend every waking hour with you
It scares Salazar how your emotional breakdowns somehow seep into him and he genuinely feels upset to some degree he’s really not one for emotions or affection but he is a warm hugger and if you ask eventually he’ll crack and hold you
Davy Jones
He’s a lot like Salazar in the sense that he can be and most often is merciless if someone has crossed him or even not crossed him
You can try and hide what happened all you like but Davy will always be able to read you, you could be the most convincing liar he’s met but if your sad he senses it, if you lie he senses it and lying or holding secrets will most likely drive a wedge in your relationship
However once he loves you, he loves you forever and if you’ve managed to break through his exterior and maintain a relationship with him he will treat you like the most precious thing in the world
When he walks in and sees you crying or senses somethings wrong it’s only soft touches and a few sweet words to get you to tell him at least what’s going on
Davy is better with actions rather than words and that works to your advantage since after hearing what happened he says nothing only caresses your skin wiping away a stray tear and muttering that he’ll be back later
For the time being you entertain yourself and take your mind off what happened as best you can it’s not too hard - there’s plenty of books and things you can do but you’d rather do all of that with Davy
Davy returns a few hours later he feels bad for having left you but your problem was eliminated and Davy was all yours, he’d do anything you wanted, he’d teach or play you piano, cuddle and fall asleep, read to you or over your shoulder as long as you’re with Davy everything’s that bit better

An Invitation
How do you get Jonathan Sims to go on a date with you? Easy. Step one: Trick him by giving him a fake statement filled with puzzles that lead him to the date location of your choice. Step two: Profit?
---
“Jon,” Sasha says, leaning against his desk.
“Hmm?” He doesn’t look up from his work.
“D’you want to get lunch with me today?” she asks. It’s just a casual question. They’ve gotten lunch together before, and she knows that Jon won’t interpret her question in a romantic way, but her stomach still thrums with nervousness. It’s… different, now that she’s decided to let herself have a crush on him. Now that she’s decided that, eventually, she’ll ask him on a real date.
He doesn’t even look at her, just shakes his head. “Can’t, I’m a bit swamped this week. I’ve got a lot of—things…” he trails off, drawn back into his work. The exciting world of follow-up research. She stands there for another minute, just watching him, knowing that he has forgotten her entirely. It’s one of those things that should be annoying, but is really just… deeply endearing. Ugh.
She’s going to ask him on that date soon.
***
When she asks Jon out, she tries to be obvious about it. Jon has a hard time reading social signals at the best of times, and she wants to make things easy for him. She’s not the most comfortable with grand gestures, but she’s got a bit theater kid in her yet, and she’s sure she can make it work.
She finds Jon in the break room, eating a bowl of microwavable soup and staring blankly at nothing. Very adorable. She knocks twice on the table, getting his attention, and he blinks once and smiles at her.
“Jon, there’s something I want to ask you,” she says. She can feel heat rising in her face. God, this is about to be embarrassing. She really, really hopes he doesn’t turn her down. (Why would he turn you down, James? You’re a catch.)
She gets on one knee, takes his hand. “Jonathan Sims,” she says dramatically. “Would you do me the honor of coming to dinner with me on Friday?”
He looks at her, and his eyebrows furrow. “Sorry Sasha,” he says, “but I can’t. I requested some books, and they’re supposed to arrive Friday. I was planning to get started on them Friday evening.”
She sighs. She’d take it as a graceful rejection, if she hadn’t seen Jon reject people before. He got nervous and stuttery and hyper-apologetic. He doesn’t look at all uncomfortable now, just confused as to why she’s on the floor.
He doesn’t know that she’s trying to ask him on a date.
Later, replaying the scene in her mind, she realizes what the problem was. They were at work. Even with her making it as dramatic as possible, the environment was too casual. She asked him to do platonic activities with her all the time while they were at work—why would he assume differently?
She needs to ask him when they aren’t at the Institute, somewhere where she can make a whole presentation of it. She’ll buy him flowers, sweep him off his feet.
Except.
He keeps turning down her offers to spend time together. When he isn’t busy with follow-up, he’s busy researching the Leitner books. It’s… stupidly endearing. And unhealthy. Jon doesn’t look unwell, really, but he does look… stressed, hunched over his desk all day. Jon needs a break from work, not just so she can ask him on a date, but also so he doesn’t drive himself into a nervous breakdown.
Sasha hatches a plan.
***
It doesn’t take long to put together. Just an evening, researching cryptic puzzles, scouting out locations that aren’t too far from the Institute, writing a nonsensical statement in the ‘I saw a ghost in a graveyard and it was spooky’ vein.
The only problem is how to get the fake statement into Jon’s caseload without him noticing. She can’t just drop it on his desk, not with him there all day long. She could get Lydia involved, but she isn’t sure the Head of Research would approve of her plan, and even if she did, Lydia is a bad liar. Jon would know something was up.
In the end, Jon solves the problem for her. He leans back in his chair, hisses over to her, “Sasha! Swap with me?”
“Spiders?” she asks, and he winces, nods. She holds out her hand, and flicks through the offending file. It has all the hallmarks of a false statement, but—
“I felt thousands of legs swarming over me, filling up my mouth, my nose—”
She snaps the folder shut, wrinkling her nose. “No problem,” she says. She hands Jon the fake statement. “You can take this one, I haven’t gotten started on it yet.”
“Thanks,” he says, smiling. Her stomach flips, and she watches for a few moments longer as he gets to work.
***
It would be suspicious for her to be staring at Jon the entire time he’s working on the statement, so instead she just glances over every once in a while, making sure he doesn’t immediately drop the statement in the ‘discredited’ pile.
He doesn’t. Instead, his frown deepens as he’s drawn in, trying to figure out the puzzle she’s left for him. The statement is clearly fake, but a few of the words are—wrong. Nonsensical. Gibberish.
She sees Jon go over and over the text, marking every strange word. Then he picks up his phone, dials the number listed on the statement. It’s a disconnected number, and Jon’s frown deepens.
He thinks for a few seconds, tapping his fingers on his desk. Then he pulls out a notepad, begins writing on it, consulting the statement to transcribe the strange words exactly.
At that point, Sasha knows she has him. Jon loves puzzles, and now that he knows there’s a puzzle to solve in the statement, he’s not going to stop until he figures it out.
It’s a simple Caesar cipher, with the phone number as its key. It yields the message:
Here are the coordinates:
CH.HCGDHCGFYERE, -HB.KGICCECIF0WI
In order to crack the coordinates, Jon simply has to replace each letter with its numerical position in the alphabet. Jon is smart, he’ll figure it out. The coordinates belong to a cryptid-themed restaurant in America called the Moth Man Urban Legends Bar and Grille.
Once, the Moth Man Urban Legends Bar and Grill website landing page contained several blurry photos of “Moth Man,” along with a somehow even blurrier photo of a restaurant menu. Now, it’s a nightmarish jumble of the strangest stock photos Sasha could find, along with a single hyperlink that just says, “Click me!”
(Sasha included this step because she finds it deeply entertaining to watch Jon click on the shadiest links possible. It’s revenge for all the viruses she’s had to clean off his computer.)
The link leads to a much more tasteful webpage. It’s has a single picture of a rose on it, and below that it just says, “An Invitation”. Then it gives the address of a very cute little cafe just a short walk from the Institute. Beneath that, “Tonight. 7:00pm.”
It takes about an hour for Jon to figure out the Caesar cipher, and after that he works through the puzzle quickly. It’s a delight, watching his face when he sees “Moth Man Urban Legends Bar and Grille,” and even better when he sees the monstrosity she’s made of their website.
He clicks the link without even a second of hesitation, which almost makes Sasha laugh out loud. And then he’s just staring at the invitation. He opens a new tab, opens Google Maps, puts in the address. She sees the back-in-forth in his head—‘Tonight’ has probably long since passed, and he isn’t likely to find anything if he shows up at the cafe at 7:00pm tonight.
But Jon is stubborn, and if he doesn’t go ‘Tonight,’ it’ll eat at him. She’s trapped him. He’ll show up. She’s certain of it.
***
She debates for a long time if she should wear a dress, or a button-up shirt and tie. She decides on the tie. It has ferns on it, and she needs the calming vibes.
It’s starting to sink in, what she’s done.
Why didn’t she just say, “Jon, I am asking you on a date”? That would have been so much easier! Christ, she’s tricked her crush into going on a date with her. What kind of creep does that?
She’s terrified Jon will be angry with her. Or worse, hurt. This whole thing is technically a prank. What if Jon thinks she’s just… making fun of him?
She stops by a flower shop on her way there, and the shop assistant asks what she needs, and she’s so nervous by then that she actually says, “I tricked my friend into going on a date with me, and I need flowers that will prevent him from hating me forever.”
“Right,” the man says, uncertainly. “Well—” And then he makes Sasha a very, very nice arrangement because, unlike Sasha, he isn’t a complete mess.
Sasha arrives at the cafe thirty minutes early, because she knows Jon. She knows he’ll want to stake out the place ahead of time. She knows she has to arrive ridiculously early to beat him there.
But apparently, she’s underestimated him because he’s already there.
He’s seated at a table in the corner, where he can see the entire dining room. He’s still wearing his clothes from work, and there’s a pastry in front of him.
He’s watching the door, of course he is, so he sees her come in.
“Sasha!” he calls, waving wildly at her. It makes something pang in her chest, that Jon’s instinct upon seeing her in a public place is to excitedly greet her. She certainly isn’t that kind of person.
She smiles, walks over to him. Her fingers are curled tightly around the flowers, crinkling the paper just slightly.
“Do you have a date tonight?” he asks, looking her over, his eyes still flicking back and forth between her and the door.
“I hope so,” she says.
He frowns. “Are they late? Or—”
She hands him the flowers. “These are for you.”
He looks at them, bewildered, then back at Sasha. “What—”
“The invitation was from me,” Sasha says, sitting down across from him. “I faked the statement, and I made the puzzles.”
He stares at her for moment, then at the flowers, then back at her. She waits for him to yell at her, or run off, or—she doesn’t know.
Then he starts laughing. It’s—wonderful, when he laughs. He always tries to hide his face, and this time he decides to use the flowers for that purpose, stifling his giggles against the petals. “Sasha, I—I thought it was going to be the, the Mob, or something.”
Sasha can’t help but start laughing too. “You thought the Mob sent secret messages to each other using a Caesar cipher?”
“I don’t know!” Jon says. “This is—” He lets out a long breath. “Well, I did enjoy the—game, I suppose.”
They look at each other for a long moment.
“Wait,” Jon says. “So I’m your date?”
“If you want to be,” Sasha says.
Jon smiles. “I—” He laughs again. “Yes. Of course I do.”

Unexpected (6/?)
(Not my GIF)
(This is my shitty border though. First try and all.)
You weren’t expecting it. Neither of you were.
That didn’t mean you weren’t happy with how it ended.
Bucky Barnes x Reader Fic.
Warnings: I don’t think there are any in this one? Sad Boi Hours, Firearms, A lot of dialogue from a lot of people.
“You haven’t heard from Frank? At all?” Karen worries over a cup of coffee the next day and you roll your eyes.
“Nope. I’ve tried calling him but, it goes straight to voicemail.” You sigh as you stare out the coffee shop window at the people passing by. “He’s fine though. I can feel it.”
“It’s not him we’re worried about.” Elektra snorts before reconciling her words. “Not that we’re particularly worried about which river they’re going to find Patrick in a few days from now.”
That brings a faint smile to your tired face. You doubt that your brother would actually kill Patrick. Frank had begun carving out a new life for himself here as and you knew he wouldn’t jeopardize it for the likes of Patrick Vaughn.
So, no, your brother wouldn’t kill him but, maiming wasn’t out of the question. A few broken bones wouldn’t lay too heavily on your conscience either.
Your phone goes off for the fifth time in as many minutes and you reach for it quickly.
“Ugh. Again? Who’re you texting that’s so important?” Elle groans, obviously slighted by the distraction. “This is the first time we’re seeing each other since you found out about Pat. We demand your undivided attention.”
“And you’ll get it.” You promise. “This is about my door needing to be fixed. Bucky asked me when I was free so he could get it done.”
The two women sat across from you share a look as you type out a response, laughing at the photo of Sam and Steve that was sent with it. It was abundantly clear the Captain America had no idea how to use a drill when you see him frustratedly trying to get it to turn on while Sam stands in the back, holding the battery in his hand, with a finger on his lips.
It was a comfort; knowing that the all mighty Avengers were just normal people.
“We’re calling him Bucky now?” Karen hums as she leers over the table. “And he’s offering to fix your door?”
You knew that tone and you knew what she was implying. For some reason it brings an irritated heat to your face.
Foggy had been implying the same things when you had called him last night and you weren’t sure how to broach the topic.
Sure, Bucky was a nice guy but, you knew he wasn’t over Claire and you definitely weren’t over Patrick no matter how much you wished you were. You couldn’t run away from fifteen years like he had and, just because everyone else was sick and tired of your previous relationship (which they had made abundantly clear in every call you made last night) you weren’t.
No. Your mind kept replaying all of the good times you had with your ex-husband. After what he had said to you yesterday, you wanted nothing more than to erase him from your mind but, it didn’t work that way.
Having Bucky, someone who was going through the same thing, helped immensely but, after he left last night and you were left alone with your thoughts, you crumbled. Your breakdown had almost been as bad as when you’d first met the super soldier. You were hurt and you wished your friends would stop telling you how much they hated the man you had been married to. It didn’t help. All it did was make you feel stupid and weak for not seeing the signs in the first place. They made you feel like shit every time they pointed out how poorly he treated you and they had no clue.
How do you tell your friends that? They were trying to be supportive but, it wasn’t the support you needed right now. Right now, you just needed someone to sit next to you and listen to you rant while watching cheesy movies and eating your favorite take out.
You needed Bucky as pathetic as that sounds.
“Yes. He’s fixing my door because Frank kicked it off of its hinges in a fit of rage last night.” You reply curtly when you realize you had been silent for an odd amount of time. “He should be at my place in a half hour so-“
“Okay, let’s get ready to go then.” Elektra cuts in. She’s pulling on her coat and throwing away your empty cups before you can protest. “What? I want to meet him and I’m sure Karen would too. Right Karen?”
She poses the sentence as a question but, you know it’s not. Her tone leaves no room for you to say no and you have to remind yourself that she was just trying to be there for you. The former assassin was still learning how to be someone’s friend and she often came off harsher than she meant to.
Forgoing a worded answer, Karen nods enthusiastically and you know you’re stuck. You knew that if you wanted to continue having a friendship with Bucky he would eventually have to meet your friends but, you weren’t sure if you were ready for that.
It wasn’t in Elektra’s nature to give you a choice though and you mentally resign yourself to it as you pull on your own coat and finish the muffin you had gotten for breakfast. The brunette smirks at you, knowing she’s won and Karen claps her hands giddily.
This wasn’t how you were expecting your day to go. You were hoping that you could go out to breakfast with your friends, go home, get your door fixed, and spend the rest of the day hanging out with Laysa and Bucky before collapsing back into bed so you weren’t dead on your feet tomorrow at work.
It would be your first day back since taking in the snow leopard cub and you had been counting down the days, now even more so.
Karen opens the door and you three make your exit onto the busy sidewalk. A cool breeze has you pulling your jacket tighter and you inhale the smell of the incoming fall season. The first day of October was quickly approaching and you hoped the changing of the seasons would help you adjust to the changes in your life.
“Let me just call Bucky to let him know that you guys are coming.” You voice when the thought pops into your mind that he might not want to meet your friends. He seemed okay with your brother but, that had been a whirlwind encounter that caught you both off guard. “I don’t want to spring this on him.”
Elektra purses her lips but shrugs instead of arguing.
When you look down at your phone, you’re shocked to see it already ringing with Bucky’s name being displayed on the screen. Once again a smile creeps onto your face at the sight as you press the answer button and bring the phone to your ear.
“Hey! I was just about to call. Is everything okay?” You chirp, signaling the girls to follow you as you begin the trek back to your house.
There’s a rumble on the other line and faint arguing that piques your curiosity and you’re trying to discern what’s being said when Bucky finally answers.
“Hey Doll.” He sounds out of breath and you have to wonder what has a super soldier like him breathing hard. “Everything’s fine. It’s just-“
“Y/N we wanna come over!” A voice that could only be Sam Wilson yells from the background, causing you to shake your head with a grin.
You hear James grumble something unintelligible before letting out a long sigh. “They want to meet you.”
“They being Sam and Steve?” You guess whilst biting your thumb, trying to hold back the peal of laughter that threatens to escape.
“Yes ma’am.” A much calmer voice comes through and you vaguely recognize it as Steve Rogers from yesterday’s call. His politeness is every bit what you would expect from America’s sweetheart.
“You’re free to say no.” Barnes cuts in. “Please say no.”
He was obviously in the same boat as you but, you weren’t throwing him a life vest anytime soon. If you go down. So does he.
“You can come on two conditions.” You hum and he groans. “One is that Steve never calls me ma’am again and two is whether or not you’re okay with meeting two of my friends that so rudely invited themselves.”
Karen sticks her tongue out at you childishly. When she does stuff like that it’s hard for you to picture her as the woman who stood up to Frank. The woman who shot an unarmed man all those years ago.
The thought suddenly strikes you that you and Foggy were the only people in your friend group that hasn’t committed murder.
You feel as though that should disturb you more than it actually does.
“Sam’s already on his bike.” Bucky’s deep chuckle snaps you out of your thoughts.
You bid him goodbye and find yourself walking with a bit more of a pep in your step. You didn’t want to think about why talking with the super soldier managed to dissipate your sour mood. You just accept it for what it was and continue walking.
“Was that a yes?” Karen coaxes whilst she loops her arm into yours, grabbing Elle as well.
Her excitement is palpable and you find yourself nodding. “You two are going to be meeting the ex-Winter Soldier, Captain America, and the Falcon.”
“Who wants to take bets on whether or not I get arrested?” Elle says it as a joke but, it opens a very real pit of anxiety in your stomach. Elektra had always been off most mainstream radars but, it was entirely possible that the Avengers know who she is.
Your blossoming mortification must show on your face because Karen swiftly elbows the brunette with a frown. “Why would you say that? No one’s getting arrested. Besides, its not as if you’re aren’t dating the best lawyer in New York City.”
Her words do little to quell the swelling storm in your gut but, you appreciate them nonetheless. Regardless, its too late to turn back when your home creeps into view, just in time for a trio of motorcycles to park in front of it.
None of the men are wearing helmets and you make a mental note to berate them later.
“That them?” Elle asks, feigning disinterest. She can pretend to not be apprehensive all she wants but, you can always tell when she’s lying. This is one of those times.
Meanwhile Karen is bouncing on the balls of her feet as if she wasn’t personally acquainted with several super humans, mutants, heroes, and villains.
Hearing your approach, Bucky turns to face you flashing an uneasy smile before opening his arms.
“Oh he’s hot as-“ You purposefully ignore the rest of Elektra’s sentence in favor of letting yourself be enveloped in James’ hug.
“Hey sweetheart. Sorry ‘bout this.” His voice is low in your ear and you have to fight the shiver that tries to run down your spine at the sound of it.
“Don’t you start apologizing.” You huff before reluctantly pulling away. “My girls are going to eat them alive.”
You wave over Karen and Elle brushing off their stunned stares as Bucky does the same.
“Bucky. This is Karen and Elle. Girls. This is Bucky.” While Elle hesitates to wave, Karen is grinning wide enough that it had you wondering if her cheeks hurt.
“Nice to meet you. I’m sorry it had to be under these conditions.” Elektra steps up when Karen blanks, shaking Bucky’s hand and nodding to the men behind him.
Captain America and the Falcon introduce themselves when James refuses to. Sam flashes you a mega watt smile that has you hiding a laugh behind a hand. Steve forgoes your offered hand and follows James’ suit, pulling you into a tight hug.
Steve’s mouth opens to say something but, is quickly cut off by Sam asking a question that makes your blood run cold.
“Hey, have we met before?” You don’t have to turn around to know he’s talking to Elle and you stiffen in Steve’s hold.
Peeling yourself away from the blond super soldier, you take your place next to Bucky and elbow him in his side.
Elektra shakes her head with a shrug. “I just have one of those faces-“
“Hey! Why don’t we head inside? I’ve gotta feed Laysa. You know how cranky she gets.” You cut in as you drag the brunet around your home and into the backyard. The back door was the only way in since Bucky nailed a few two by fours over the front door to keep it in place until he came back to fix it.
If Barnes notices your panic, he says nothing.
The back door unlocks with a click and you can hear Laysa as soon as the door opens. A smile creeps its way onto your face at the sound of mewling and, when you turn to face James, he’s wearing a matching grin.
You ask him to get her from the nursery while you get the bottle ready and he nods, motioning for the guys to follow him into your home.
“Smooth Kare.” Elle jokes when the blonde trips over the doorstep; obviously too entrance by the Falcon’s ass to pay attention to where she was walking.
“Shut up.” She hisses. “Can you blame me? I’ve never seen a group of men that good looking.”
“Karen.” You hum. “Super soldiers equal super hearing.”
Her face goes bright red and you do nothing stop the peal of laughter escaping your throat. It was a much-needed reprieve from the tension that had been tightening your muscles since stepping out of the coffee shop.
“Like Matt super hearing?” He worries, biting her lip and dutifully avoiding the office door as we pass by it.
That was a good question but, it wasn’t one you wanted the answer to anytime soon. For now you were walking the fine line of knowing heroes and vigilantes with no overlap. You wanted to keep a grasp on it for as long as you could. When lines blur, things get messy, and you had enough mess in your life as is.
“Who knows?” Elle sighs before taking a seat on your counter as you begin the process of heating up Laysa’s bottle. She seemed a bit too relaxed for a criminal who had almost been recognized and you absentmindedly wonder how long she could keep the act up. Elektra was the epitome of a strong woman but, everyone needed a place to crash. Matt was her place. Lord knows they earned each other.
The microwave beeping mixed with Karen’s hand waving in front of your face brings you back to reality.
“You okay?” She mouths as James and the others make their way into the kitchen. You wave off the question before taking the cub from James’ arms.
“That may be the coolest thing I’ve seen.” Sam grins and James rolls his eyes. “And I’ve seen a lot of cool things.”
“You do that often?” Steve’s eyes widen in fascination as Laysa eagerly latches onto the bottle. “Take in animals like that?”
“Y/N’s always looking to take work home. Before her it was the Macaws and before the Macaws it was-“ Elle trails off, snapping her fingers in frustration.
“Oh it was the Gharial baby with the nub leg.” Karen supplies while cooing over the cub. “Remember it bit Foggy and he had to get like five stitches? How’s he doing now?”
You remembered that night very well. More accurately, you remember Matt laughing his ass off when Foggy fainted at the sight of his own blood.
You loved that little reptile.
“He’s doing great now. Swims better than the rest of the clutch.” You reply, laughing when you hear Sam (not so quietly) asking Steve and Bucky if they knew what a Gharial was.
You choose to save the herpetology lesson for another time.
“Do you guys want anything to drink?” Elle asks, taking on the role of hostess while you’re indisposed and you shake your head before silently thanking her.
“I’m good, thanks. We better get started on the door.” James declines, petting the cub in your arm once more then walking out of the kitchen, toolbox in hand.
“You have fun with that Bonky. I’ll stay with the kitten.” You snort at the nickname Sam throws out and you file it into the back of your mind for later. “And Steve can’t figure out how the drill works so-“
The Captain flushes with a frown before grabbing the Falcon by the back of his collar and dragging him into the room Bucky had disappeared, leaving you alone with Elle and Karen.
Both of which were eyeing you with matching grins.
“No.” You deadpan. “Don’t even think-“
“So Bucky seems nice.” Karen voices. “Helpful too.”
“And hot.” Elle adds.
You groan.
Across the house, Bucky was diligently ignoring the probing stares of Steve and Sam wile removing the planks on the front door.
“So. How did the door break again?” Steve questions for the hundredth time since finding out about it last night. His best friend had been tight lipped about the aftermath of yesterday and, after seeing how Bucky was with you, he could understand why.
“Hand me the hammer.” He grunts while gently yanking the first piece of wood off the frame. James wasn’t sure if you’d be okay with the others knowing who your brother was so, he chose silence, much to the Falcon’s irritation.
“Doubt the ex kicked it down.” The aforementioned bird continues. “Man barely looked like he could lift a chair let alone break down a solid door.”
Bucky wants to comment that you ex wasn’t a man as much as he was a rat as you so eloquently put it yesterday. He takes the hammer from his friend’s hand and uses it to pry another set of nails out. The ex- Winter Soldier refused to leave you in a house with no front door and, after a silent staring contest that lasted all of three minutes, you caved, showing him to your basement filled with half finished projects. Apparently, you were quite the handy person yourself but never finished anything due to lack of free time.
Luckily for him, you had been meaning to replace the doorframe for some time and you already had all of the parts and pieces he needed.
“The world may never know.” Bucky grumbles with a roll of his eyes, effectively putting an end to the door questions. He had been looking forward to another quiet day, away from the pitying eyes of his team and, if he were being honest with himself, seeing you again. He didn’t have to pretend to be okay around you and you didn’t push him to talk about things he wasn’t ready to say out loud.
Laysa wasn’t a bad incentive either.
Your house had quickly become a safe place for him. Something you made sure he knew when you both said your goodbyes last night.
Steve’s phone goes off and the Captain wastes no time in opening the new text message. “Claire’s filed for a transfer. Nat just got the request.”
For a split second, Bucky pauses. For some reason, he had thought that his ex-wife would have put up a bit more of a fight for him. A part of him wished she would have put her foot down, said no to the divorce and demanded they work things out.
He would have said no but, knowing that she had given their relationship up so quickly stung. Steve and Natasha knew that he still had love for Claire and were hesitant to bring her up, while the others kept telling him how glad they were that she was gone.
Suddenly the image of you landing a punch to Claire’s cheek pushes the thought from his mind and he regains control over his body.
“Wait. Nat got the request?” Sam questions. “Isn’t that a Maria thing?”
The bird-man had a good point. Claire was a SHIELD agent and that was Maria Hill’s turf.
“As if that was going to stop her.” Steve chuckles. “Romanoff doesn’t concern herself with minor legalities.”
James couldn’t complain. This was Natalia’s way of showing she cared and he appreciated it more than she knew. He was sure hell would freeze over before Claire stepped foot in the Avengers’ Compound again.
The Captain pockets his phone once more and watches his best friend work. The way Bucky’s whole body relaxed when he saw you outside hadn’t escaped his watchful eye. Even if he had managed to miss that, the way he had opened his arms to you without a second thought sure as hell would have caught the blond’s attention.
Bucky had gotten better with people touching him but, he still avoided it as much as he could. His best friend hadn’t gone out of his way to hug someone since before the war. Steve wasn’t oblivious, he could see the hurt that lingered in the ex- Winter Soldier’s eyes and he’d seen it mirrored in your own. The moment you walked yourself into Bucky’s arms the Captain knew that there was something between the two of you; a mutual understanding of one another’s pain.
No doubt Sam was going to tease him about it later but, Steve was happy. He couldn’t pretend to know what his best friend was going through right now. He was just glad that he had you to go through it with.
Minutes pass in blissful silence and Bucky has to restrain himself from strangling Sam when he breaks it with a corny joke.
“You guys should go to the zoo. I heard they offer senior discounts.”
While Steve frowns, a grin crawls onto Bucky’s face. He stays silent for a moment as he relishes what he’s about to say next.
“You’re a little late to that train. Already made that joke yesterday.” You take the words out of James’ mouth when you enter the room with Laysa clumsily trailing behind you.
“Oh that’s cold.” The Falcon grumbles and the sheer disappointment on his face brings a chuckle out of Bucky’s chest. He turns to find you smirking at the air force veteran while rolling your eyes.
Elle passes you and grabs a remote off of the coffee table. Sam’s words from earlier come to the forefront of Bucky’s mind. Your friend does seem eerily familiar but, he just couldn’t put his finger on why. Her standoffishness reminds him of Natalia in a way but, other than that, she seemed like a completely normal woman.
After hitting a few buttons music pours out of the television, filling the silence with a low tune.
Sam, ever the conversationalist, decides to break the awkward tension. “So, do you guys work with Y/N?”
Karen shakes her head. “Oh god no. That’s too much school for me. I’m a journalist and I work at our friend’s law firm as an assistant part time. Never a dull moment there.” She finishes sarcastically and, as normal people do, Sam and Steve look towards Elektra next.
Your breath catches in your throat when she clears her throat. “I’m a personal trainer. Moved here from Greece a few years back to live with my boyfriend.”
Her answer is surprisingly normal and you applaud her for adding the personal touch.
“She’s actually dating one of my best friends, Matt. He was one of the lawyers that got our papers together.” You fill in a couple blanks to make the story more believable. “And we of course know what you guys do for a living. Saving the world must be a dangerous way to get paid.”
Out of the corner of your eye, you see Karen and Elle struggle to keep a straight face. They were no stranger to danger (Elektra being the danger most of the time) and you all knew it.
“Someone’s gotta do it.” Sam boasts with a puffed out chest.
Steve is more subtle. “We try our best to keep people safe.”
Conversation flows steadily from that point on with Sam and Karen picking up the slack from Elle and Bucky. An hour passes in what feels like seconds and you’re fearing that Karen has finally met her match when Bucky and Steve shoot to a standing position.
Its an odd sense of déjà vu when James backs away from the door to stand in front of you just as it’s kicked in once more.
There’s no cloud of dust this time and you can clearly see the form of your brother rushing in with a hand on his weapon.
“Y/N! Are you okay? I saw-“ He trails off when he sees the three men in the living room.
“Are you kidding me?!” You yell, pushing James aside then stomping your way to your brother. “Again Frankie?! Again?!”
Despite your anger, you’re relieved to see that he’s not covered head to toe in blood but, that doesn’t stop you from smacking him upside his head. “What part of you have a key don’t you get? Stop kicking down my damn door!”
Frank’s posture relaxes immediately and he shrugs sheepishly. “I saw the bikes and I thought-“
“Thought what?! That I was being murdered at noon on a Monday?” As soon as the words leave your mouth you wish you can take them back. You remember how bright the sun was shining the day your brother lost his entire family. “I’m sorry. I know you’re just looking out for me because you’re a great big brother and I love you for it. Can you just do that without busting down my poor door?”
Sam lets out a quiet what the hell at your admission. His shock warms your heart- not because your brother’s reputation proceeds himself but, because Sam’s surprise tells you that Bucky hadn’t told the Avengers about Frank. A secret that was now moot.
“Nat’s gonna freak when she finds out.” Sam chuckles behind you and, once again, déjà vu creeps up your spine.
Déjà vu that turns into a shiver when a low and feminine voice cuts through the air. “Nat already knows and she came down here to make sure you three don’t get turned into pink mist and a memory. Looks like there was no need.”
You can see a speck of red hair from behind your brother’s hulking frame. This whole situation was getting more ridiculous by the moment and you revert to your wish for a quiet day.
You could handle one Avenger. Tolerate three. But add another, your brother, Elektra, and Karen to the mix? It was too much.
“Hey danger.” She adds, bumping your brother’s shoulder with a wink. You had to hand it to the woman. She knows what she wants and she goes for it. Her blatant flirting obviously catches Frank off guard and all he can manage is a furrowed brown and wide eyes. “You don’t seem too shocked by this Barnes.”
“Not my story Natalia.” His response is simple and to the point but it still brings a smile to your face.
Shaking off your surprise, you then grab your brother by his arm and wave Natasha into your home.
“I guess that answers our door question, Cap.” Sam chuckles.
The aforementioned Captain stares at you with wide blue eyes. You’d think for a century old man he’d have seen it all but, watching you manhandle the most gruesome vigilante in New York (ex-vigilante he reminds himself) wasn’t something he was prepared for. Steve know understood what Bucky meant when he said you were something.
“Kare- check him. Make sure he isn’t hiding any stab wounds or bullet holes from me.”
The petit blonde takes his hand with a smile before leading him away from the group. You didn’t put it past your brother to have just shoved gauze into an open wound and call it a day.
You unconsciously gravitate back to James and you don’t realize it until he lays a hand on your shoulder.
“At least I was just measuring when he kicked it down. I can have it fixed in no time.” His reassuring smile coupled with Laysa now rubbing against your leg calms your frazzled nerves. Your house hasn’t been this lively in years and, although you know you should embrace it, you were tired.
“Tweedle dee and tweedle dum. Castle isn’t the only reason I came here. We have a mission.” The redhead points to the Captain and Falcon. Both men stand at attention and you have the gnawing feeling that although Steve was the captain, Natasha was the leader. “Nice meeting you Y/N.”
You watch with a raised brow as she crosses the empty threshold once more before answering with a weak you too.
She pauses and looks up at the cracked door frame with a frown. “Barnes you’re in this one too but, finish this up first.” Steve and Same both bid their goodbyes before following the woman out. You don’t let out the breath you’ve been holding until you hear three motorcycle start up and disappear down the street.
Karen comes back out- frowning at the now empty room before she shakes her head. “He’s clean but it doesn’t look like he’s slept in days.”
You scoop Laysa up with a frown. He was having his nightmares again and it had you worried. Guilt creeps into your veins when the thought crosses your mind. Patrick hurting you might have dredged up the past for Frank which explains why he rushed in earlier.
“I’ll take him hom-“
“No. I’ll take him. You have enough on your plate right now he won’t talk to you. You know that.” Karen bites her thumb after cutting you off. You could never piece together the nature of the bond she and your brother shared but, you’re happy that it’s there nonetheless. She was right, Frank would rather die than add his own problems to your full plate.
“Thank you.” You nod solemnly and she disappears from sight. Moments later you hear the back door close and you sigh.
“That’s my cue. Matt and I have plans for tonight and I’ve gotta get ready. You know- limber up.” Elektra stands with a cat-like grin. Her words have James coughing in shock and you snort. You almost want to tell Bucky the truth but you knew telling an Avenger that your blind best friend and his girlfriend were planning on canvasing the city to fight bad guys wasn’t the best plan, so you leave him to his embarrassment then give the woman a hug.
“I’ll talk to you both later. Be careful.” Out of the corner of your eye you see a blush burn onto Barnes’ face. Maybe it was cruel to tease him like this but, no one said that cruel couldn’t be funny.
She disappears in a flash of black hair, leaving you and Bucky blissfully alone.
“That was something.” You groan before plopping onto the couch. Of the several scenarios you had run through your head of meeting Bucky’s friends- the one that just transpired wasn’t one of them.
“It could’ve been worse.” He shrugs, picking up the forgotten door in an amazing display of muscle that has your eyes lingering on his back. “I think your brother and Natalia showing up added a bit of spice.”
You slam a pillow over your face hoping that it would somehow erase the memory of the last twenty minutes from your mind. “Weren’t you born in the twenties or something? Didn’t think you could handle spice.”
The playful jab has him shaking his head with a smile.
“I’ll have you know that I’ve eaten Carolina Reaper wings before. I can handle spice just fine.”
The pillow over your face muffles the snort that leaves your throat at his defense. The mention of the infamous pepper brings up an old memory from college.
“I almost killed Foggy with Reaper wings. He didn’t know what they were and, after eating one, he rushed for anything to stop the burn. He ended up grabbing a brownie laced with Black Scorpion pepper. Immediately started throwing up.” You find the strength to remove the pillow from your head with a bright laugh. “He had to chug half a gallon of milk to stop.”
Those had been easier times. Back when the three of you had the whole world ahead of you.
“Who laces brownies with pepper?” The man across the room frowns. “That’s just wrong.”
“Hey! It was a Halloween party. Trick or Treat.”
“Remind me to never come to one of your parties then.”
You gasp in indignation ready to fire back with I’ll have you know that I used to throw great parties before you think better of it. You stopped throwing parties years ago because Patrick never hid how much he disliked parties and your friends in general.
The thought of your ex-husband douses you in cold water causing a shiver to run down your spine. Instead of answering, you run your fingers through Laysa’s soft fur to calm yourself down. Glancing at James across the room, it appears as though he lost in thought as well. The clock on the wall strikes one in the afternoon.
It has officially been twenty-four hours since you both confronted your spouses. It was a thought that was both liberating and terrifying.
“We’re going to be okay. Right?” The words escape you before you can bottle them back up and, when Bucky freezes, you wish you could take them back.
“Yeah. We’re going to be better than okay Doll. Maybe not today but, eventually.” His deep voice wavers slightly causing you to worry your lip between your teeth. You had the feeling he wasn’t normally this open with his friends and an odd mix of feelings swirl in your chest; relief, a little bit of pride, and another that you couldn’t quite put your finger on.
Regardless it’s that feeling you can’t put a finger on that has you standing up. “Natasha said you have a mission?”
“Yeah. S’gonna be a rough one if all of us have been called in.” This time there is no waver of worry in his voice. He’s firm and matter of fact in a way the reminds you of your brother and Matt. That didn’t make you fear for his safety any less.
You decide to follow the same routine as you do with your friends who like to put themselves in dangerous situations on a regular basis.
“Do you have time for a home cooked meal before you go?”
Once again the man pauses but, this time he turns to you slowly as a smile grows on his handsome face.
“Yeah sweetheart. I’d like that.

RWBY VOLUME 8 EPISODE 13 SPECULATION AFTERMATH!!!
SPOILERS!!!
SPOILERS!!!
SPOILERS!!!
Hmmmm......I’m gonna be honest......I really don’t know what to think about this episode 😥. I obviously have some thoughts about it, it’s just that I need to go by piece by piece with it to understand what the hell im feelin 🤨. So let’s go ahead and start with this AfterMath.....
-(Gateways To Paradise) So far I am okay with with this plan to create portals for the citizens of mantle and Atlas to use to get to Vacuo.
With Beacon, Haven and Atlas academies now in tatters and not heavily filled with huntsmen and huntresses anymore, Shade academy is the only viable option to take thousands of refugees since it is the only one left to provide proper protection from Grimm.
It’s just too bad that that Ambrosius really does listen to every word when being asked a request to create something, huh? With Weiss’s unfortunate wording when asking to create the portals, it looks like when you cross the exit portal to Vacuo there is no way to go back to the “central location” of the portal system. Now Oscar, Ren, Emerald and hundreds of refugees are now trapped inside a sandstorm filled with Bat-Grimm, that are sensing all of the newly arrived negativity. So yeah......that’s not good
-(Sad Day For Clip On Ties) Wow......I was really not expecting Jacque Schnee to die right now 😳. I was honestly expecting him to have at least one more arc as an antagonist with the Schnee family, then eventually die because of his hubris. Damn you James 😡 why did you have to go and ruin some perfect future moments of the Schnee siblings and mama Schnee kicking Mr. Clip On Tie to the curb!!!
-(Learning From Your Failures) Hmmm......I will say that using Jinn’s last question to find out what Ruby and everyone’s plan was a pretty good move on Cinder’s part. I’m a tad bit disappointed that the question was used for this purpose though, since I was kind of hoping it would be used to find out more about Salem’s plans or more about Summer 😓.
Using Watts to cut everyone’s communications to keep them disorganized in the middle of the evacuation was also a good strategic move they used. It’s also quick thinking on Watt’s part to lead Qrow and Robyn further away from the kids by making them chase after Harriet, who is currently flying with Ironwood’s bomb.
Now that I watched it a few times, I can see that Cinder really did take what Arther said to her, and implemented into her plan. She took his insult and literally became a bloody migraine for Team RWBY, just so she can become a big enough distraction for Neo to deal a fatal blow towards Ruby. If this is her way of showing that she knows she’s a pain in the ass, then I guess that’s one way of showing your growth as a character lol 🧐.
-(One Down, Three More To Go) Alright.....time for the most interesting part of the episode......Yang’s fall. Now just to clarify before starting this, I am mostly in agreement that Yang is not dead and is more likely now in some other realm of existence. Though I am too open to the idea that she actually died, which could lead the story plot to either using time travel or resurrecting her back from the dead. We’ll just have to wait till Saturday to confirm what happened.....
Now as gut wrenching this scene was, especially with seeing Blake’s reaction to Yang’s “death”, I do unfortunately have some small nitpicks on the scene. I kind of wished they had both Blake AND Ruby react the same way when seeing Yang fall.
Now I understand Ruby had absolutely no time to process what had just happened because of Neo constantly attacking her, but it just felt off to me that she wasn’t able to have the same reaction that Blake had 😥.
Just to be clear I am in no way saying this to take away the emotional moment from the Bumblebee shippers. Blake’s reaction was on point with her character and as well with her connection to Yang as her partner, so i don’t want any of that changed. As I said before it’s a small little nitpick and if there is the off chance we do see Ruby’s actual breakdown when all three of her teammates eventually fall down, then I’ll give this scene a pass. For now I’m gonna reserve judgment till after episode 14.
-(Neo is becoming Yang’s Kryptonite) One last small nitpick I have lastly about this scene will have to involve with Yang’s “aura break”, when she was struck by Neo. This is a bit of an add-on to a criticism I’ve been having about “some” of the aura breaks within this volume, so I’ll save most of what I felt about it when I do a review on Volume 8 later.
To make a short summary of it I feel that if we seen Yang taking some hits from Cinder before being struck by Neo, then I would give it a pass. Most of the aura breaks we had this volume have been really good, it’s just that some of them (including this one) didn’t feel right to me is all. Again I’m just being nit-picky about it but I just felt that this should be a small criticism that I wanted to give my thoughts about.
-(Why Does This Feel Split?) You know what......I think I know why I feel like that this episode is weird to me.....does anyone feel that episode 13 is just part 1 of an even bigger episode? Like episode 13 and episode 14 is actually one big episode but the writing team decided to split it apart so that the volume would have 14 episodes?
Lmao 😆 I don’t know, I’m just gonna have to watch the finale to see if my assumption bears any weight. Do any of you understand what I’m talking about?
So.........I’m gonna say that this episode was good overall, I just had a couple of a nitpicks here and there that I wanted to get off my chest lol.
I also want to address one thing before I finish up. Since this is the finale of Volume 8 I decided that I will not be doing a speculation post before the episode airs this time around. I do have several speculations that I really want to post for the finale, but I kind of want to enjoy the finale like a normal fan for once lol.
So yeah.....you won’t be hearing my annoying a** until I make an Aftermath post after the episode airs this time around. REJOICE EVERYONE!!! I’m Shutting My Damn Mouth!!!......sniff...sniff....😢
Till next time......BUH-BYE!!!

Uh oh, here's another shitty one shot.
*
Regulus Black, the happiest Ghost
"That's a bad colour on you"
Sirius spun, there shouldn't be anyone in this room. He reached for his wand, startled. He was picking what to wear because he was going to see Remus today and was really trying to look his best.
"You can't just show up out of nowhere and scare the shit out of me," Sirius said, aggravated but turning again to his wardrobe to search for a proper shirt, a better colour.
"Especially at these times, it's not safe. I could've-" He added, but stopped himself.
"Sure, give me all you got, I'm see-through." The voice behind him chuckled, getting nearer. "Also it's the whole point of my existence, I show up whenever; scare you. It's fun." Arrogant and annoying even after death, some things just don't change.
"Yeah, that's how you get your kicks, now."
"It's my power, and I love using it. I can't exactly scare anyone else. Stuck with you, my dearest brother."
"You can leave now, I'm busy." Sirius was buried in his pile of clothes, getting more annoyed and finding he has absolutely nothing to wear or nothing that would fit appropriate to where he's going. Sirius normally never cared what he wore, he thought he always looked good in whatever and anyone else's opinion never mattered, but it was Remus and he needed to please and impress.
"I can help, Blacks have always had style." He was now beside him. He could feel the coldness spreading out. Sirius looked up, he saw Regulus, his little brother. He was cold, pale, transparent, but he was smiling. It wasn't the first time Sirius would see him after he died. He would always show up to Sirius. He would talk to him, keep him company when the days would just be unbearable.
Regulus would always be beside him even during missions and duels with death eaters. Helping with lines like "Watch it.", "Lookout.", " on your left.". He'd been there when he cried over Remus. Sirius would talk his ears off but he never leaves, no matter how repetitive the conversation gets. He listens, and funnily enough to use the new information to tease the hell out of his brother in important situations. Like the last meeting of the order when he kept walking around making kissing faces at Remus just to irritate Sirius and get him to lose his focus and stare at the wrong person. Regulus's ghost was far happier and playful than when he was actually alive. Sirius thought of all the reasons why that made perfect sense.
Regulus had no Walburga, no missions, no pressure or responsibilities, not even the dark lord could hurt him. He only existed for his brother, and that was enough. He was always in a great manner. Only got sad when Sirius would cry or finish a mission looking miserable.
Sirius had a really hard time accepting Regulus's death. He always blamed himself for it. He was the one that left him. He abandoned him to those wretched humans they call parents. He let his brother be fooled by them, he let him sink into the darkness until it swallowed him whole. Until he died, and that was always on Sirius. Maybe if he hadn't left, his brother would still be alive. Maybe they would get through this war together. Regulus would move on with his life, be happy. Instead, he got his brother as a ghost, a voice and a shape, only Sirius could see or hear.
The first time Regulus appeared in front of Sirius, he thought he had finally slipped into madness. He knew he wasn't wired up right in the head, but to actually be able to see his own dead brother, a few days after his death, was his final straw. Especially when no one else could see him, he wasn't a normal spirit. His existence broke Sirius, it was always a reminder of what he did. Sirius would crash, breakdown, cry, sob, and scream at the pale figure. He couldn't be real. It was his mind playing sick tricks on him, maybe it was his parents doing something to him. It had to be anything but the fact that Regulus was actually there.
That was a year ago. After many sleepless nights, experiments and research, Sirius came to the realization that Regulus was a legitimate ghost, he was there for staying. He wasn't a part of Sirius's mind, and it made everything so much worse for him. His brother didn't choose afterlife, he chose to stay. When Sirius asked him, he would tell him that he wanted to be by his side, just like Sirius stayed and took all the spells and hits for him at the Grimuald place. It's torture to Sirius but he got used to it. Regulus wasn't going anywhere and Sirius was enjoying the company, maybe it's selfish but he has his brother.
"Shut up, turtle neck." Sirius eventually responded. Starting to give up on the colourful floor he sat on; piles of shirts and trousers, spread everywhere.
"They're cool, and you know it."
"Sure they are, Reggie."
"Coming from the bloke who owns half the stock of silk shirts in Britain. You buy them in every colour, it's disastrous."
"Why are you here, again?" Sirius turned his head to face his brother, who was now crouching examining the clothes, making disapproving noises and frowning.
"Fine, I'm leaving. You're on your own. Good luck." Regulus said, getting up and going towards the end of the bedroom, walking rather slowly.
"You're just going to roam around the house then come back again because you're a lonely bitch."
"You're a lonely bitch, Sirius." The Spirit responded, monotonously.
"We're both lonely, now can you please come and help, and stop being a pain in the ass, Reg." His brother just smirked at him. He knew what was coming. So he added and beat him to it. "Do not say the joke you're thinking about."
"Oh, you mean the joke about the pain in the ass? Yeah, you just stole it." Regulus was now beside him again, grinning. "Sure, I'll help. You wouldn't really want to miss tonight's pain in the ass, would you? Big bro." His grin got wider. Sirius could only facepalm as his brother was now laughing and doubling over on the floor with laughter at his very lame joke.
"I'm losing my mind here, in a crisis, and you're laughing," Sirius growled. He wanted to grab Regulus, smack him. His hand would just go through him, it makes him sad.
"So, the usual. Except, I'm the one laughing this time." Regulus said, finding his composure again.
"I'll just cancel with moony, and miss out on the opportunity to see him for the next three months," Sirius mumbled, getting up, shoulders slouched. He felt like crying.
"Or, you could wear those and have the greatest evening for the next three months." He turned around and saw Regulus trying to pick a shirt and a pair of trousers out of the pile, he failed obviously and ended up pointing at them while looking at Sirius. He walked back and picked up what his brother chose.
They were dark Jeans, a white shirt and a black leather jacket, except that it's not the one he normally wears. It's much more modest, without all the chains, pockets and excessive accessories. "Simple, yet charming," Regulus commented as Sirius was examining the clothes.
"Thank you, you're a lifesaver." Sirius looked up to meet his brother's eyes. It's insane how they're just more alive now than ever before. "Aren't I always?" Regulus beamed back at him.
"Yeah, I'd hug you." Sirius smiled, looking down at his clothes. "Don't worry, I hug me every day." Regulus was wrapping his arms around himself, "Like that, self-love. It does wonders. You should try it."
"One day, Reg. One day, I just might. I'll go change now." Sirius said, smiling sadly.
"I have all the time in the world," Regulus spoke confidently, hands on his waist. "By the way, you really needn't stress that much about what you wear. I don't think Remus gives a shit, Sirius." Sirius cracked up, hummed in response and turned around for the second time to leave the bedroom. "and I mean it in every good way, brother." Regulus shouted from inside the bedroom as Sirius was shutting the bathroom door.
It's funny how things turned out with Sirius, he grew up in a hell house, with abusive parents. Ran away to his new family, the Potters. Left his actual brother in the hands of Voldemort. Fell in love with his male, half-blood, werewolf best friend. How he's currently fighting in a war against his former family, against everything he was raised to believe in. How he has his brother with him at any given time, comforting him when neither James nor Remus could be there. It's funny how everything in Sirius's life seems shit yet the best it could ever get at the same time. He didn't want it to end.
*
The Au I was talking about. I tried not to make it sad. Probably failed. Idk. Anyways, if you like it. Tell me. Maybe I can think of part two. I'm a Regulus stan, I have so much Regulus content and would write essays and essays about him. :)))))).
His relationship with Sirius is just so precious. :')
This is not in anyway edited sorry for the mistakes.

The Lore of Folklore:
The Real Story Behind the Characters of Taylor Swift’s Folklore
We are all familiar with Taylor Swift’s record breaking, surprise quarantine love child, Folklore. Even more so in the Swiftie fanbase, we are familiar with the proverbial “love triangle” established in “Cardigan”, “August”, and “Betty”. What if I told you that I believe the entire album is centered around just these characters at different stages in life with Taylor’s story woven in? Also, what if I said that Taylor/Rebecca were an allegory? Not to mention the complexity of “Hoax” being a combination of all the characters in one? Of course, you would probably ask me for clarification, and that is the intention of the next few paragraphs. These characters reveal certain patterns of behavior, call and responses, and self-referential phrases that map out a much bigger story to tell. The trio of songs mentioned above were just the starting point.
To give you an overview of where we will be going, I want to give you the songs as they relate to each character. These will then be fleshed out to connect them in the way I hear and see Folklore play out. The songs and respective characters are as follows:
Betty- Cardigan, Mirrorball, and Exile (featuring James)
James- Betty, This Is Me Trying, and Exile (featuring Betty)
Augustine- August, The 1, and Illicit Affairs
Taylor- Seven, Invisible String, Mad Woman, Epiphany
Taylor/Rebecca- The Last Great American Dynasty, My Tears Ricochet, Peace
All Characters- Hoax
The genius of this album is that the struggles and identifiers of these characters can sometimes be interchangeable. That is what creates the magic, so take everything I say with a grain of salt. There is more than one perspective to these stories, but this is all what I heard from Inez.
The 1 (Augustine)-
I have been sitting with this song for a while. I began to wonder why, for lyrics that for all intents and purposes were sad, did I not get sad listening to this song. Sure, it’s about loss and what could have been, but it’s mere conjecture. Almost like a love that never really existed outside of the storyteller’s imagination. A film that was never made, if you will. Then it hit me, “you weren’t mine to lose”. Augustine simply imagined what it would have been like if the man she did not end up with could have been the one. Betty and James DID have a relationship and the theme of this “film” is repeated in the stories told throughout this album. She would have not gotten the chance to have the movie kind of romance if he had not chosen to be with her. Rose flowing with his chosen family.
If one thing had been different, could everything be different today? Had he not already been in love with another woman, could we have been the greatest love story ever told? Something also struck me as odd. She called out him meeting some woman on the internet and taking her home. Knowing he has a tendency to stray, there could be a superficial level of jealousy. Imagining that he’s cheating on Betty, but disappointed that it isn’t with her. Not because she’s necessarily a bad person, but I think that as we will see later on in this breakdown, Augustine struggles with conventional relationship types and ties herself to sinking ships for the tragedy of it all.
Cardigan (Betty)-
So, not to rehash lore we are already incredibly familiar with, but this song is clearly Betty knowing that James is going to run back to her after straying the path. Cool, amazing, fierce. However, there is language here that suggests this is not the same instance as him showing up to the party. I believe that James has a very toxic pattern resulting from his wondering eye and Betty just has a bad case of loving him. At least, for a while. Betty likes the fact that she is able to show James who he really is when all is said and done, and being someone who has struggled with confidence, she doesn’t want to let this love go too soon. Even if she should. More on that in a bit.
Betty says, “Chase two girls, lose The 1”. We all assumed that she was referring to herself, but knowing that she was almost waiting for his return, it’s very possible that she intended to forgive him even before he asked. She had scars from years of not being enough and she may have even been bullied as indicated by this and him seeing in her what others could not when he was present in the relationship. That feeling of “what if” made sure she would not completely walk away. When you are young they assume you know nothing. Well, knowing something does not mean you know everything and I think she stayed long enough to find that out the hard way. Peter does lose Wendy because he cannot grow up.
The Last Great American Dynasty (Taylor/Rebecca)-
Taylor owns the previous home of Rebecca Harkness in Rhode Island. This beachside mansion has all the salt air and cliffsides to scream off of that anyone would want. Rebecca has a big reputation as a maneater who just isn’t ladylike and mild mannered enough. Sound familiar? Taylor Swift has been demonized, ridiculed, and made infamous based solely off of complete speculation. Rebecca faced the same fate as a middle-class divorcee who was cast as a gold digger after the Standard Oil estate. Truth is, both of these women were just in search of love that could last. Under circumstances far beyond their control these things ended so loudly that there was no right to privacy while they grieved or attempted to make sense of it all. Worse? They were blamed in a blameless situation.
Taylor makes her identity known to mirror Rebecca’s at the end of the story. So, what’s the connection to the album as a whole? Bill grew up in the area that the rest of them would eventually be in later on. Cliffside and salt air, the characters revisit these scenes and similar ones several times throughout the story. They lived at a different time here, years later. In fact, in terms of the house itself, it sat quietly for 50 years until Taylor would acquire it. She then marks her entrance to the rest of these stories as she then will later touch on points of her life leading up to Holiday House.
Exile (Betty and James)-
Communication is key. However, Betty and James eventually resented the back-and-forth nature of their relationship. He believed that she would always forgive him as she had always set that precedent each time before in their relationship. Although they always knew they walked a very thin line, they always felt like the other person would become better to them if they loved hard enough. Each had their demons, though. Between James cheating nature and drinking problem, he could become withdrawn and combative. Betty loved James so much that she gave him second, third and hundredth chances and even excused his more aggressive behaviors in a Streetcar Named Desire type loyalty. Until the branch broke that they were balancing on.
For someone like James, being left as a result of bad behavior can often be skewed as a betrayal in and of itself. Her leaving could have only been a result of her not telling him how to be a better partner. On the flip side, Betty was not clear in her signals of being fed up with his actions, but allowing him back time and again. The blame game ensues and each call out each other’s faults too little, too late. They have, in fact, seen this “film” before. They kept the hope that the cinematic love they were both obsessed with would eventually play out if they wanted it enough, but did not put in the work or self-reflect enough to make it so.
My Tears Ricochet (Taylor/Rebecca)-
Of course, it’s about a certain sellout record executive of her previous label who did not even have the decency to let her own her masters. I will not be bringing his name into it because he does not deserve to even be thought about. However, I think Taylor does an expert job of exploring the anger stage of grief and death that Rebecca and Bill would have had to face in his untimely death as well. The allegory dips in and out of this song to further establish the mirror effect of these two women and their fears/perception. Taylor calls out her own inability to leave with grace. Rebecca was left to burn at the stake after Bill died with no one to defend her either. While it is not his choice to have died, grieving does bring about emotions of abandonment when still panning out. Much like Taylor felt when the label she trusted acted like they had never met and that she had not given them her all to gift them any kind of notoriety.
Gathering stones is beachside activity, but when, so is collecting jewelry. This in a metaphorical sense could allude to also gathering dirt and receipts when it all falls down. This line has quite an impact in the context of a business transaction and the marriage of a rich couple. Toward the end, each woman speaks as though they have gone to the cliffside and screamed into the open air. Rebecca challenges the masses to go for her heart in same way the public felt she had gone for Bill’s, but knows that she would be missed all the same. Each woman is directly calling out their naysayers and bullies telling them they know they’re drunk on pain and negating the good they had done before tragedy. These fake people have both built them up and torn them down in times it benefitted them the most.
Mirrorball (Betty)-
As I previously mentioned, Betty struggles with self-confidence (relatable content). This song takes a deeper dive into Betty’s desire to be noticed by James in the way she needs him to and to show him that she knows him better than anyone else does. When he does not pay attention, she breaks into a million pieces. Although her friends consistently tell her that the end is imminent, she has committed herself to changing the narrative. She’s walking the tightrope, another call out to the thin line they feel they have always walked in regards to one another.
The insecurity is palpable in the self-deprecating “I’ve never been a natural, all I do is try, try, try”. Remembering from their teenage years, Augustine, a natural beauty, is able to draw men in with a sense of sensuality and a carefree demeanor. She doesn’t have to get too invested in relationships because she only chooses men that are in high risk, low reward circumstances. On the outside, it seems like she has all the confidence in the world and that is intimidating to someone like Betty who does not exude the same assuredness and has been burned by trusting unnecessarily before. In spite of this, Betty is still a believer in true love even if James has given her no indication there is reason to believe.
Seven (Taylor)-
Little Tay on her Pennsylvania farm just discovering her own voice and the meaning of friendship. Making her own tales of time gone by and recounting the origin story of a girl who makes “too much” noise any time she wants. Also, quite possibly the REAL queer-canon of the album. Taylor was close to someone who she has not seen for a while, a girl. She remembers the feeling more than anything and a certain protectiveness that she felt for this person who was having to hide in the closet. Labels did not matter and love was love in this scenario. She wants them to know their story and the care she felt for them is not forgotten and still a source of inspiration for her life in present day. Think “hope ur ok” by Olivia Rodrigo.
This song explores Taylor’s fierce feminism and activism into adulthood. The unwavering support she gives to the underdogs and why Rebecca’s story resonates with her so much. She was the wild child the world tried to tame with constant expectation. The subject of Seven that she befriended reminded her that there are beautiful things out there and grounded her in a way to keep looking for meaningful connections and to respect the stories of each person she meets to gain perspective.
August (Augustine)-
Somewhere on the beaches just outside this small Rhode Island town, Augustine was manifesting a relationship that she knew had a slim to none chance with James. Despite her hopes and efforts, August came and went. James dreamed of Betty with Augustine in his arms, but wanted is cake and to eat it too as a seventeen-year-old boy. The thrill of it all enticed him to give his summer to Augustine instead. Particularly because she was willing to pursue him in the way she did. However, much like the surface level pining found in The 1, she just wished she could write her name on his back in a performative ownership move as if to say finders keepers.
This superficial relationship was hallmarked in sex and lust by being spent tipsy and wrapped and in bedsheets. It wasn’t shameful or tawdry to two kids, but would show it’s truth one single time before becoming a feeling both would continue to chase. The shaky and electrifying experience of sharing firsts and secrets though “Never Have I Ever” and the charged nature of “Are you sure?” feeling like a pact. Until guilt set in for James, there was only excitement and both were forever changed. One by the hope of it all, and the other by the excitement.
This Is Me Trying (James)-
Years after the first thrill and eventual heartbreak, James has never found direction. He fell behind the classmates that moved on with their lives and ended up here. Still in their same hometown, he is a shell of a man grappling with depression and alcoholism. He’s in Betty’s doorway once again in her front porch light begging for forgiveness. He even matched Betty’s previous speech pattern in “Mirrorball” by saying “I just wanted you to know…” as if to respond to her finally because he sees her after it’s all been said and done. He pulled the rusted, vintage car that once made him so cool off the road to the same cliffside that they once made out in front of. This represents the edge that they all seem to stand at one point or another to contemplate their mistakes. He calls out his own substance abuse and aggression (which we talked about in Exile as well).
He wants to continue his same party lifestyle, but feels like an open wound because his bad behavior has finally caught up to him. All he thinks about are his own shortcomings, especially now that he is left alone with them. Betty once again gets compared to a film in a reel on the one screen they have in this small town. Now, only a memory instead of a reality. The defensiveness from being what he perceived as betrayal has subsided and he is left to face the cages he mentally put himself into and the fear that he was not as good of a man as he tried to project to others around him. Betty being the product of his transgressions since she is left broken and resentful toward him now.
Illicit Affairs (Augustine)-
Augustine finally pulls back the layers on why she continues to try to recapture the feeling that James gave her at a mere sixteen years old. Someone displaying all the confidence in the world may have had less than Betty in actuality. It was all a misconception. Instead, Augustine feels that her looks and sex are what she has to offer and by giving herself away, she hopes to capture lightning in a bottle one of these times. She recreates the same structure of what she had with James only to meet the same disappointment.
The beautiful setting of the beach house gives way to the parking lot behind the mall in a way. In some twisted way, James brokenness recognized Augustine’s and she had never been seen in real way before that and then not again after. James thought Betty’s level headedness would fix him and did not want to have to face himself via Augustine since they understood each other in the worst way. Like I said, that first taste left her living for the hope of it all and it was simply a dwindling mercurial high. A drug, though, that could work a hundred times over.
Invisible String (Taylor)-
Taylor’s stories are often on this album the only ones with direct references to actual places. This one references Centennial Park and Los Angeles. This is the story of Taylor Swift and Joe Alwyn (William Bowery to some). This in and of itself is a modern day, currently in the making folktale. The idea of an invisible force bringing the two together to tell a great love story just like Taylor had always imagined. Here she self-references her own part in contributing to the media circus surrounding breakups and dating and owning her growth in those situations.
Allowing herself to live in the moment, she talks about the colors and touches of humanity this relationship has brought her. A deeper appreciation of the present and making memories that will one day make beautiful stories to tell for both themselves and for others that once tried to taint her narratives on hearsay. This is her story in her words and an expression of gratitude. Hell was the journey, but it brought her heaven.
Mad Woman (Taylor)-
This one is about the other one and his soon to be ex-wife. The one the masters were sold to. Shares a name with a two wheeled ankle destroyer and will also not be mentioned by me. This is a slight reference to her Rebecca allegory in the sense that character assassination played a big part in that story, but not enough to say it’s a direct correlation. Although, it is interesting to note that they are hunting all of the witches even if you aren’t one.
Taylor gets raw about the cheating nature of the man in question whether it is in business or in relationships and how he should be called out for it. There’s a hardship in feminism, though. She watches as a woman who knows she is in the wrong defend the thief instead of the robbed. It explores the right to be mad when lied to or stolen from, particularly when you’re willing to go on record with false statements if they serve a certain narrative. Undeniably, this moment will go down in infamy for generations to come. In a word, folklore.
Epiphany (Taylor)-
Paying homage to her grandfather, Taylor sets a scene as a war rages on. Keeping your helmet to keep your life is a good direct correlation to mask mandates that swept the country as COVID-19 developed. The horrors of watching someone die for things that may have arguably been avoided sets the anguish apart in this song to any other she has done. This is the world in a life and death lens and nothing else. Trying to make sense of what she and the rest of us are seeing when it did not have to be this way.
The most hard hitting look at medical staff and the precarious position they stood in for both instances is found in the bridge. They watch to make sure someone is breathing. They stand in the face of danger and are contained to one place while a threat is posed but serve unselfishly and risk falling like the people around them in the hopes of reaching a breaking point or a point of clarity in the chaos. On a metaphorical level, this song establishes a very important piece of perspective for us to hold onto long after this virus is contained lest we forget.
Betty (James)-
The first injustice and a look into the dramatics of young love. We now at least get to know why James loves Betty so much and humanize him a little more for the things he’s been dealing with internally since a young age. He comes off a lot more charming here even if unsure. Possibly a reason why he leans on liquid courage later on, James is actually a bit shy in group interactions. This also causes him to avoid confrontation if it can be helped or talking about his feelings. He also has a tendency to fear loneliness as a result so he’s easily convinced to go along for the ride even if it isn’t the right decision.
However, here, he nervously plans for weeks to gather up the courage to ask for a second chance. From what we can gather, he was likely forgiven in this instance which made him more comfortable than before to do so again and again. The cycle started here with this grand gesture, but post-cheating, the damage was likely already done since he had gotten a taste of the thrill. Betty would serve as a constant, but she would not stand alone.
Peace (Taylor/Rebecca)-
Taylor knows she will likely always be speculated on, but she loves intensely even if no one else believes. Here, you can see her sympathy and understanding of someone like Rebecca who no one ever even considered that she may actually love her late husband. All she can ever hope for is that the person she dedicates herself to can recognize how invested she really is and can handle the storm that comes with that. She talks with her own pack of friends being wild and rowdy much like Rebecca, but hopes he never sees that as a sign of disrespect. It’s just who she is.
Everyone DID think the love was for show, but they knew nothing of what happened behind closed doors. Does a woman pace rocks staring out at the midnight sea who isn’t missing someone? I don’t think so. Painting dreamscapes on the wall referring to the home they share together. The very same place that tied Rebecca and Taylor’s stories together in the first place. I think Taylor learned to embrace the madness before the rest of Rebecca’s story became hers and stopped apologizing for being so loud but remembered to continue to let love in.
Hoax (Everyone)-
Every time I listen to this song, I hear a different character speaking to me. Then I realized each one was just taking turns. This one is a bit different so I’m going to break it down by character:
Betty- He had drawn stars around her scars, but the way he made her feel was just as bad as the pain they caused. She believed him each time he said never again. She let him back in time and again to be hurt in the same way, but nobody else would have done for her if he could just be the things he promised to be. She was bound to him even though he never came through.
James- He knows exactly what he’s done and that he cannot fix it now. He knows that she possesses a love for him that will never die, but that is unrealistic after a certain point. He resigns himself to having to miss her forever. The hero has effectively died, so the movie has lost a purpose in plot. He tried, but did not succeed.
Augustine- She had a plan for them. No matter the means in which to get it, she wanted him to love her the way he did Betty. She used slight of hand and a little convincing to lead him to her. It left her aching for more when she knew that would never come back. August slipped away and there was no winning. Winter came and the ground was frozen.
Rebecca- She stood out there screaming for a reason why she had to be left alone in the life that was supposed to be theirs. I don’t think she ever quite got past that feeling of abandonment and just needed anything to believe in. This beautiful mansion had become a kingdom come undone. Bill’s heart had given out like a broken drum.
Taylor- When you sign a record deal at such a young age and a man who has always taken care of you in that time suddenly becomes your biggest enemy, it can certainly feel like a total heartbreak. The hoax was making her believe that even if all was said and done he would at least have her back. He most certainly did not. She screams at the sun (now eclipsed) on the cliffside while he listens to her stolen lullabies. The part of herself that remains in New York being her life’s work.
Please let me know if you have anything to add! Any new perspectives I may have missed? I would love to further this conversation and find new ways to explore the Folklorian Wilderness!

Gerry has always thought it was very appropriate that his first kiss (with Jon, and overall) happened in the forgotten stacks of a local library. The scents of books and ink had surrounded them, something he still associates with Jon and youthful adoration to this day.
He was seventeen and desperately trying to pass his A-levels in the crumbling ruins of his fucked up life. Jon was nineteen and ready to have a breakdown and drop out of second-year uni. Their messes had conveniently lined up enough to give them space to fall in love. It was a messy, chaotic type of relationship, but that was who they were and it suited them just fine.
They somehow ended up as unlikely study partners after trying to check out the same book for their respective English classes, and then, almost without even noticing, they were inseparable.
Gerry was drawn to Jon because he was steady but in a frenetic, rebellious kind of way. His eyebrow piercing and painted nails also helped.
Jon was enamored with Gerry because he flirted and held his hand and accepted him for exactly what he was and nothing else mattered.
One night, after admittedly too little sleep and too much caffeine, Jon decided he wanted to try something new. It was impulsive. He should have asked first, but instead, he moved without thinking, and somehow Gerry was pushed back against a bookshelf, their lips pressed together in a rather forceful way.
Gerry laughed at him.
"Not exactly the reaction I was hoping for," Jon pouted, drawing away, but not so far that Gerry wasn't able to draw him back with his hands on Jon's hips. Jon's hands, previously bracketing Gerry's face, slipped up to tangle in Gerry's soft, badly dyed black hair.
Fortunately for Gerry, Jon was exactly the right height for Gerry to draw him close and press a kiss to his temple. "You just surprised me, is all. I wasn't expecting you to do that. Like, maybe ever?" He laughed softly, again, an incredulous well of hot affection opening in his chest.
"I was curious," he replied, shrugging. His face burned, with both embarrassment and sappy pleasure. "I thought maybe it would be nice."
"Oooooh." Gerry grinned wickedly, "We'll have to keep trying, then. You know, for investigative purposes. We can't leave a hypothesis improperly explored."
Jon silenced his nonsense by drawing their lips back together, and Gerry happily obliged him. At that moment, Gerry decided to make every kiss better than the one before, so Jon would always feel the need to come back for more.
It turned out they enjoyed kissing one another very, very much. Gerry still appreciated everything Jon offered him and never pressured him for anything more, or extra, or too much. Jon was still steady but wild. Gerry always seemed to end up shirtless. Young infatuation was a beautiful thing, both to behold and to endure.

By the time Jon meets Martin, he's kissed a few more people.
Georgie, for two dizzy years in grad school. Tim, on one memorable and drunken misadventure. A few others sprinkled here and there.
But he couldn't remember ever feeling that same reckless drive to push himself into someone else's space and live in their gravity, the way it had been during those breathless months with Gerry.
As soon as he lets his unfounded anger for Martin's mere presence in his orbit fade, Jon feels himself drawn to Martin's magnetism. His kindness, his gentleness, his constant awareness of Jon's mood and wellbeing.
The way he brings him tea even though he would have insisted he didn't like it and didn't want it. Martin did it anyway because Jon could let it cool or drink it, but the gesture behind it stood all the same.
Jon doesn't imagine that Martin could ever forgive his months of snide remarks and cold disregard, but he does, and Martin somehow manages to like him anyway. Because that's just who Martin is, always finding something to love in even the most desolate places.
"Let me get you a taxi." Martin presses after a dinner date.
"Let me get you a taxi." Jon presses back.
"I live one block away!" Martin laughs and can't resist pulling Jon towards him by the elbows. Jon grabs his lapels with sloppy confidence born of laughter and wine.
The air is full of gentle moisture, not quite raining, just blanketing the world enough that they feel locked away in their own world for the moment. Nevermind that they live in one of the most populous cities in the world. At that moment there is nothing but Jon and Martin and the warmth between them, forging an intoxicating attachment to rattle the stars.
"I want to kiss you," Martin whispers the confession into the space between them, pressing their foreheads together and breathing Jon's air.
"I really wish you would," Jon offers him in return.
Their lips press together gently, deliberately. Martin is taller than Jon by enough that he gets the supreme satisfaction of dragging him slightly up towards him, crowding into his normally sacred personal space.
For a moment, they feel airborne, standing in their huddle of space and time. Their lips move together, dragging and drugging them.
Martin gasps softly as they pull apart to breathe, all their emotion pouring out into the space between them.
"Come home with me," Martin pleads softly. "Just- for time together. I don't want this to end."
"Yes," Jon whispers back, "I think I would like that very much."
It is only one block away, and they walk hand in hand, pausing occasionally to press soft lips together again and again.

Gerry tries to keep a balance of spending time with both Martin and Jon and seeing them separately. He also makes sure to give them space to be together on their own, and never inserts himself between them.
Even after several months, he feels like a guest in their relationship, and for the time being, he doesn't mind existing in that space. He finally knows he wants to keep them both, and he is willing to wait for the natural progression of their relationship to carry them along.
He is still willing to do his part in it, of course.
Gerry likes to go into the bookstore, get flirted with by Tim, flirt with Martin in return. Drink tea or coffee and read books on the comfortable couch in the corner, all the while watching Martin brew drinks and care for his customers.
Martin works 5 or 6 days most weeks, often helping man the counter himself, between the admin of running the place and herding Tim and various baristas. So Gerry is quite taken aback when he goes in early one Monday afternoon to find Martin nowhere in sight.
After a quick check with Jon to make sure it's not a normal absence, Gerry makes his way the short walk to Martin's flat.
At first, there's no answer to his knock. He knocks again. He texts Martin's cell. He calls it too. A pit settles into his stomach, although he knows it's far too early to panic.
He knocks one more time and even calls out for Martin through the door, before going quiet to listen.
After a few nerve-wracking moments, Martin does actually open the door a crack, peering out at Gerry with red, tear-stained eyes.
"Martin? Are you okay, love?" Gerry tries to push forward, but the door doesn't open any further. "I brought you tea. From the shop, even, so it's definitely good."
"Why?" Martin asks in such a bleak voice that Gerry is taken aback.
"I-" He starts, mouth gaping at Martin's completely alien manner. "I thought you might like it. That it would bring you some comfort if you were sick or something."
"Or something," Martin says, the total blank sadness in his voice filling Gerry with biting concern.
"Please let me in." He presses his hand more firmly into the door, and Martin eventually yields, although Gerry knows from unfortunate personal experience that it's more from lack of caring than anything.
"Make yourself at home, I guess." Martin offers the space ahead of him as he moves further into his flat. He collapses on the couch, curling into a fetal position on the cushions.
Gerry's heart burns, both with sympathy and empathy. He has an idea of what might be causing such a bad relapse of Martin's depression, although the topic of mothers is always carefully danced around between the three of them. He puts the tea down in grabbing distance and he goes to Martin's wardrobe to fetch his favorite fluffy blanket.
"You don't have to tell me what's wrong. But I want to be here for you." Gerry tells him firmly as he wraps Martin up in it. "Is there anything specific I can do for you or do you want me to suggest some stuff?"
Martin blinks up at him. "I don't know…"
"I can put the TV on and sit nearby. I know I don't have Jon's voice, but I could read to you. Put on a podcast?" Gerry throws out the suggestions, keeping his tone gentle and neutral. He doesn't want Martin to sense that this is difficult for him in any way. He can process his own emotions later.
"Anything." Martin shifts over onto his side as silent tears resume a steady trail down his face. Gerry walks over to the bookcase and selects a book he has seen Martin reading a dozen times, the spine well broken and the pages yellowing.
He sits on the floor in front of Martin, near enough for him to hopefully be able to absorb some of the goth's errant body heat. He starts reading, keeping his cadence slow and steady, hoping to provide comfort and grounding.
He reads for almost an hour, and he thinks Martin actually sleeps through most of it. He drinks the tea, although it's already cold.
Eventually, he slows to a stop and closes the book, but doesn't move, hoping Martin will stay sleeping.
"I'm sorry." Gerry is startled by Martin's croaky voice and turns to look at him.
"You have nothing to apologize for."
"I do," Martin starts, rubbing at his checks and sitting up against the armrest. "I'm a disaster and you had to come all this way and waste all this time just because I can't get my shit together."
Gerry's eyes narrow at this nonsense, but his tone remains gentle. "None of the time I spend with you is ever wasted. I care about you and I want to be here for you. I wish you had called me or Jon so that we could have come sooner."
Martin's face falls at the mention of their mutual boyfriend's name. "Of course. You came for Jon. It would have been pretty bad if he had seen this mess."
"That is not what I said, and it's not what I meant." Gerry's voice rises, from hurt at Martin's words, at the way his mental state twists Gerry's heart in his chest. He pulls himself up onto his knees, putting himself firmly in Martin's personal space and leaning in close so Martin can't avoid his eyes or his words. "Martin, allow me to make myself completely clear. Because I won't allow you for one second longer to believe that you are some kind of consolation prize for me, that I tolerate your presence because I feel like you and Jon are a package deal. That anything I do to show you affection or effort is for Jon's benefit. You are a gift to me. The way I feel for you is completely independent of my feelings for Jon. I love us all together, but you. You fill me with hope and laughter and the warmth of a perfectly brewed cup of tea. I want you just as much as I want Jon, and my heart will never be the same if you were to walk away from me. Please don't push me away because you think I only feel this way about Jon. Because that is the furthest thing from my truth."
His declaration sits heavy in the air between them for a moment, almost shimmering where Gerry can practically see it hanging in the air.
"But, I-"
"No, no buts. I'll accept 'thank you, Gerry, you light up my life too, Gerry.' No arguments. No buts. This is a space where we can accept that people love us."
"Thank you, Gerry," Martin says slowly, pulling Gerry closer to hold the sides of their faces together. Gerry wraps his arms around Martin and rocks them gently. "You fill life with colour, my Gerry."
"Much better, love. I'd really like to kiss you now, if you-" Gerry breaks off as Martin pulls him closer and slots their lips together. The kiss is full of desperate desire to bring Martin closer to Gerry and further from his forsaken loneliness.
Gerry slides himself up off the floor, not breaking contact, and sits astride Martin's lap. Martin sneaks his hands up the back of his shirt, hands confident and familiar from months of tactile flirting and easy affection.
Gerry anchors himself to Martin, and Martin anchors himself to Gerry, and at that moment they feel the nexus of their relationship, both with each other and with Jon, lock firmly into place.
