apparently like a month after stevenson published his book a magazine published a parody called "the strange case of dr t and mr h" where 'stutterson' loves eating for free and his friends' houses and talks wayy too much, dr 'trekyl' transforms into mr 'hideandseek' after some whisky and soda, everyone tries to shut stutterson up before he spoils the ending and in the end trekyl goes 'yeah I could've split myself into three or four other people but two is already too much for 140 pages that cost a shelling'

Alright, Alright let's get one thing straight. I'm late for possibly the best art challenge ever again, but at least i actually got to finish a draft this time around. I remember getting a request to draw Gabriel utterson and I been holding out on that for a bit, until I realized yesterday was the last day of marmay so I HAD to draw something.i know this doesn't look the best but I tried, I think this is my second time drawing him and it doesn't look too bad. Anyway maybe someone will enjoy this.
Good morning btw

Dracula The Musical has the same problem, except it's somehow worse because they're not even doing the reincarnated wife angle. Dracula just decides they're soulmates and Mina falls in love. One of the songs is "I Was Born To Love You" by Mina.
Because what is a woman if not born for a man.
I will say the Frank Wildhorn Dracula musical (not sure if you meant that one or a different one) has some really badass staging and musical numbers - especially the South Korean version - so I am a bit biased and willing to give it a pass for a lot of things. Also it straight up has Dracula drink Jonathan's blood, as was only hinted at in the books, in a dark and homoerotic scene that is definitely what Bram Stoker would have wanted to write had he not been living in the 1890s. So kudos for that as well.
Also, at least the musical doesn't pretend to be 'tHe MoST FAitHFuL aDApTAtiON EvEr'.
But yeah, it definitely continues a lot of the misreadings of the book popularized by Coppola and some dumb critics who misread the books, though it doesn't feel quite as sexist and "rape-apologismy" as Coppola's movie imho. And because of the differnet medium I'm able to view it more as it's own thing.
But also. I am biased because pretty costumes + cool sets + banger songs make brain go burrr.

English
The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll And Mr.. Hyde By Robert Louis Stevenson Translated into Gamlieg by Evan (@gamlieg on Tumblr) Mr. Utterson the lawyer was a man of a rugged countenance, that was never lighted by a smile; cold, scanty and embarrassed in discourse; backward in sentiment; lean, long, dusty, dreary, and yet somehow lovable. At friendly meetings, and when the wine was to his taste, something eminently human beaconed from his eye; something indeed which never found its way into his talk, but which spoke not only in these silent symbols of the after-dinner face, but more often and loudly in the acts of his life. He was austere with himself; drank gin when he was alone, to mortify a taste for vintages; and though he enjoyed the theatre, had not crossed the doors of one for twenty years. But he had an approved tolerance for others; sometimes wondering, almost with envy, at the high pressure of spirits involved in their misdeeds; and in any extremity inclined to help rather than to reprove. “I incline to Cain’s heresy,” he used to say quaintly: “I let my brother go to the devil in his own way.” In this character, it was frequently his fortune to be the last reputable acquaintance and the last good influence in the lives of down-going men. And to such as these, so long as they came about his chambers, he never marked a shade of change in his demeanour.

Silas Crowe is Edward Hyde!
I'm going to be honest here, if i were to give any of my oc's a villain song, i would give Silas Crowe Alive from the Jekyll and Hyde musical. Why, you may ask yourself, well its because with some creative liberty's, i can make a different context to the song to fit with Crowes character:
The first section of this song will be about Silas first manipulating someone into committing murder. he will get hit with a wave of dopamine and at first not know why hes feeling it, but later will know it was because of his love for seeing a person kill another person. he will want that again and each time increase it to get that same amount of dopamine he got from the first kill he masterminded.
The part where Hyde is talking about Lucy will be changed a bit to Silas manipulating Themis into murdering Sonia, talking about how she won't be alone again after the deed is done, which if followed through will be a lie as Silas will testify against her in the trial leading her to be hanged.
The musical interlude will be about Silas slowly accepting his monstrous side, and the final part will be him gloating about the awful things he has done, not giving a single shit about the damage he has caused to multiple people.
Again if im gonna be honest, i had this thought for a while now and thought it would be good to write it down here.

Info post 3.0
Now I'll actually put some of the "highlights" on this blog. I'll add more in the future. I'll keep the tags of my interests so it's easier to know what I'm into.
Dionysus' iceberg : an essay on why this god is much more nuanced than in adaptations.
Maomao's family is awesome: Part 2 is in my drafts. I'll complete it one day... in the meantime, here's part 1 about Lakan and Luomen :
Translator adventures : me reading "Perseus' grandson" by Henry Lion Oldie, which is only available in Russian for now. And since I don't speak Russian, I'm kinda dependent on translators that don't 100% work 😂. I'm kinda summarizing the plot but mostly sharing my impressions of it. Here's the first reading :
My favorite mythological characters : in case someone asks me again :3
Question about retellings : this pin is more for myself and because of my mutuals' advice.
My Epic the musical fanfic (strictly Epic, don't use Odyssey tags please)

Start reading Episode 1
Dialogue transcripts:
Panel 1
Griffin: …And of course when the squid-monster starts eating the ship, he runs onto the deck right into the thick of it—I know I told you I’d keep him safe but he makes it VERY challenging—
Panel 2
Skutnik: <Pah, it was not the first monster I’ve faced on the waters.>
Panel 3
Nemo: I confess myself surprised to find an alliance worthwhile. My realm of the sea is now free of this interloper, though we know little more of its origins.
Panel 4
Irene: In truth, Captain, we think this monster may be connected to one we’ve faced before.
Jack: We will know for certain once Dr. Jekyll can analyze the sample we’ve obtained. But if this substance is also manmade…
Panel 5
Arthur: Moran must have been involved.
Mina: A group must be involved. We have to learn more.
Panel 6
Nemo: It seems this is not the end of this threat…or of our association. If you learn anything of this group, contact me with all haste.
*Translation: Thieves, scoundrels! Stop!
Panel 7
Griffin: Right, we can use the Nemo-phone! Bloody brilliant bit of engineering, that!
Nemo: The…what?
Voice (offscreen): Voleurs, scélérats!  Arrêtez!*

I think the translation was kinda bad especially because for like more than half of it, the language was kinda clunky and I cant imagine a novella as famous as this would have clunky language. I am guessing it was because the translator made a poor and failed attempt at trying to "localize" the text. Yeah it didnt work. But eventually the contents of the novella surpassed the faults of the translation and I was fully immersed.
I havent seen any of the many adaptations of this book, but I was vaguely familiar, and this was definitely a bit different than what I was expecting. For the novel's credit, I dont think it depicts such a black and white view of the nature of good and bad in a person as some impressions made me believe. Jekyll is, while horrified by Hyde, sentimental for his "evil" side. He says that he dotes on Hyde like a father. That was really interesting, and kind of sweet. Like Hyde is just his youth that he(Jekyll) never got to really live which he now wants to protect and nourish. He shows a kind of unconditional love to Hyde like a parent, no matter how horrifying the child's actions. While Hyde is uncaring for the parent. But eventually starts to despise Jekyll for how horrified he is from him. He is even hurt by it. Has any adaptation explored that? I didnt get the impression any did but its not like I actually familiarized myself with an adaptation so I dont know.
I am thankfull to be in easy reach of libraries again (not one, but TWO) cause not only does it mean I wont have to buy thousand page brick like heavy textbooks, I will also be reading dr.jekyll and hyde on my daily commute. Life is great.

I ranked the musicals up to #112 (16 points), all shows that scored 15 points or fewer are merely listed in alphabetical order. The logos you can see here represent musicals that weren't mentioned even once.
