Do not judge, or you too will be judged. For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you. Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? Matthew 7:1-3
Jesus is cautioning us not to judge others in a hypocritical way. He is telling us to take the log out of our own eye so that we can help the other person take the speck out of his.
Just as believers are not to condemn others, we are not to ignore sin. If a believer sees another believer sinning, he is instructed to confront the person in a respectful and loving way. Matthew 18:15-17
The ultimate goal of confronting the person is to bring repentance and reconciliation. Let all that you do be done in love. 1 Corinthians 16:14

Many churches do charitable work. In my area, the homeless shelter could not operate without the support of local faith communities - including Jews and Muslims.
Fewer people participating in church means fewer people doing that charitable work. If the need is going to be served, more non-religious organizations will have to serve it.
I'm all for taxing churches. I'm also all for taxing the rich and investing that money in social programs that help those in need.

Judge not, that you be not judged.  For with the judgment you pronounce, you will be judged, and with the  measure you use, it will be measured to you.

Good Morning!☀
Judge not, and ye shall not be judged: condemn not, and ye shall not be condemned: forgive, and ye shall be forgiven: Luke 6:37
It is all too easy to fall into criticising or condemning others. People can be quick to try to draw you into their criticism of others without giving you the full details or even knowing the full details themselves.
They will boldly say what they would or would not do in a given situation, not understanding that there is almost always more to consider than what they are aware of, that could change how they might respond.
Before joining such conversations we need to remember that we have made mistakes and sinned ourselves. We may not have made the mistake they made, or sinned the way they sinned but we are guilty of other mistakes, other sins.
Better it is then to steer the conversation towards mercy and forgiveness to the person, unless we we are willing to be measured with the same measure we are measuring others.

You can also think something is sinful, & still not want it to be illegal, because attempting to enforce such a law a) does nothing to actually prevent said behaviour (it only punishes after the fact) & b) actively causes harm
people really seem to struggle with the idea that you can think something is dickhead behaviour and still not want it to be illegal

We were watching the glass blowing competition show on netflix because it's really cool to see those talented artists do their thing...
But I will NEVER forgive the judges for eliminating an amazing artist who's concept was that plastic hamster tubes are actually dangerous for hamsters yet they are normalized in our society so they made a beautiful glass rendition of an endless loop of colorful hamster tubes as an expression of how we can be trapped by society in a loop of behavior that is normalized but actually killing us
And the judges were like "this isnt DEEP ENOUGH" because they dont care enough about hamsters to learn and interpret the artist's statement at the level it was meant for.
Tumblr media
They literally saw the glass renditions of colorful tubes that represent suffering and being trapped in a glossy predesigned hell and went "this is too normal and isnt saying anything important actually" Fuck them!!!!
Anyways Gemma should have won and I'm so happy to see that she didn't let it stop her amazing concept and she continued with it outside of the time constraints of the show. Fuck yes Gemma

Believe the mystical stuff or not, participation in religious organizations used to give people access to community. A church was like a big extended family that also did charity work. As churches have become more political, those beneficial aspects of participation have become harder for people to get. So they're quitting.
Christian nationalists see their hold on power crumbling, so they're becoming more radical. They're throwing more money at hard right politicians.
People who care about feeding the hungry and healing the sick - the stuff Jesus taught - are finding other ways to serve their neighbors.
It's past time churches started paying taxes.

there is a judge in Seattle who does the weekly name change hearings, and who says it's her favorite part of the week. she says she doesn't read out previous names, or ask about the reasons why people want to change them. she says it's a beautiful moment, and a celebration; a claiming of a new identity, or a reclamation of an old identity. she encourages the room to clap for folks. then she welcomes everyone up, one by one, by last name and with warmth; she shows them the court order where nobody else can see, asks them to double check the spelling, and then they're done! do they want a picture? do they want their friends and loved ones who came with them to be in it too? do they want the court order in the photo? she helps everyone pose, shakes hands and stands with them for as long as they need to take it, recruits the clerk for help taking photos of the folks who came alone. then she tells them where to go next, congratulates them, and claps along with the rest of the room.
probably three quarters of the people there were trans, and she centered their experience quietly, with love and joy.
I think I'll be thinking about her a lot this January, and for a long time after. it's good to know she's there.
