just started listening to the latest tmagp episode and... do people (by which i mean, ppl in this fandom) generally know about the pillowman? (this is a genuine question -- i was a theater major in college and they did the show while i was there so i really don't know the general public's familiarity with the play)

if you don't know the pillowman i am begging you to look up the summary and understand how much sam truly whiffed it in his choice of "play for second date to distract from our literal horror show of a workplace"

the tradwife movement is the same as it has always been - back in the kitchen, back to breeding - it just has better branding.

when i was younger, i hated pink. i was not like other girls. this is now something i'm embarrassed of - this was not me being a "girl's girl."

but it was expressing something many of us felt at the time: i literally wasn't what girlhood was supposed to be. this is a hard thing to explain, but you know when you're not performing girlhood correctly. it isn't as easy as "i liked x when girls liked y" - because there were other girls that liked x, too - but i never figured out exactly the correct way to like x, or to be interested in y.

now there is the divine feminine. this is the same rhetoric it has always been: women are biologically driven to like pink and ribbons and submitting to our husbands.

the problem is that the patriarchy found a better PR team. because yes, actually, i want every woman to have the choice to be a homemaker. i also want her taken seriously for her legitimate home-making labor. i want her to be recognized as also having a job, just unpaid. i want men to have this opportunity, too.

but it is no longer "i made this choice and I love it." instead it is a sixteen-paragraph rant about how selfish it is that my generation isn't having kids. instead it's long videos about how if you feed your children processed foods, you're going to kill them. instead it is "this is what womanhood is supposed to be. i feel bad for any other choices you're making."

the shame spiral is just prettier. it is large houses devoid of personality. it is the implication: if you don't have this, you aren't happy. the solid, everlasting assurance: women are actually supposed to be submitting. this is the default. this is the natural state of things. all other attempts inflict suffering.

but you can no longer say i'm not like other girls. you can no longer reject this image completely. you cannot find it revolting, even if you know that the underbelly is toxic and festering. sure, it is the same repackaged patriarchy. but the internet does not have shades of grey. you should support and reward other women! your disgust is actually internalized misogyny. not because you are seeing a vision of yourself the way they're trying to train you to be. not because you feel her ghost pass within an inch of your earlobe. not because your father will eventually ask you - why can't you be like her?

because they figured out how to make it beautiful: women will sell other women on this idea, and we will find the singular loophole in feminism. sure, she's shaming you in most of her videos. sure, she implies that a different life is obscene. but she just wants you to be happy! you'd be happier if you were listening!

and the whole time you're sitting there thinking: i'd actually just be happier if i had that kind of money.

You have too much affection for the task force in your heart for your own good. When you're sober you at least hold it off, suppress it, unsure on how your friends would think about it. At most it's an arm around the waist or shoulder. Trying to not be too affectionate in fear of making them uncomfortable. Unbeknownst to you, they absolutely live for it.

When you're drunk all that self restraint goes away, other than clinging to their side you also very much enjoy giving them little pecks all over their face.

You have Soap leaning on your front, his back connected to your chest as you turn his head around to kiss his face, smooshing his cheeks as you do so. Kissing all the way from his brow to his jaw, rubbing your cheek against his and then resting your head on his shoulder and nuzzle your head into his neck as you leave him a blushing mess.

And when you're sticking next to Gaz, your hands wrapping around him, trapping him in your embrace as you leave kisses on his cheekbones and kiss the tip of his ear. Your lips touching every surface that you can get your hands (well lips) on. Leaving kisses on his shoulders as well.

Ghost sitting facing you as you intertwine your hands with his, and slowly lift said hands to your lips, kissing each knuckle and moving up to his covered face, placing kisses where he can still feel it through the fabric of his balaclava, like his cheeks and his chin. Maybe even his ear. You can't see it but he's beat red from his face down to his neck.

Sitting on the couch together with Price, your thighs touching and you have an arm on his shoulders, you can't help but keep staring at the man and as he turns to look at you you place a small kiss in the middle of his eyebrows, moving to kiss the corner of his eyes and moving your other arm to grab his face and smoosh his cheek in to your lips and give him an audible kiss and moving your lips to kiss the corner of his mouth. Only the best for your captain.

The next day always follows you furiously apologizing to the team, hoping you didn't make them uncomfortable but they always brush it off, always assuring you that it was fine and they don't mind it. They don't mind it at all, in fact, they're patiently waiting for the day you'll kiss them without having the help of alcohol.

hey btw if you're in the USA at  2:20 p.m. ET on Wednesday, Oct. 4, they're testing the emergency broadcast system. your phone is probably going to make a really loud noise, even if it's on silent. there's a backup date on the 11th if they need to postpone it.

if you're not in a safe situation and have an extra phone, you should turn that phone completely off beforehand.

additionally, if you're like me, and are easily startled; i recommend treating it like a party. have a countdown or something. be surrounded by your loved ones. take the actions you personally need to take to make yourself safe.

i have already seen mockery towards any person who feels nervous about this. for the record, it completely, completely valid to have "emergency broadcast sounds" be an anxiety trigger. do not let other people make fun of you for that. emergency sounds are legitimately engineered to make us take action; those of us with high levels of anxiety and/or neurodivergence are already pre-disposed to have a Bad Time. sometimes it is best to acknowledge that the situation will be triggering for some, and to prepare for that; rather than just saying "well that's stupid, it's just a test."

"loud scary sound time" isn't like, my favorite thing, but we can at least try to prevent some additional anxiety by preparing for it. maybe get yourself a cake? noise cancelling headphones? the new hozier album? whatever helps. love u, hope you're okay. we are gonna ride it out together.

There is an endless tragedy to Undertale and Deltarune where your choices as a player are never recognized whenever you do good. It is always attributed to someone else. Whether it be Frisk or Kris, your actions that you do for others will always be "the actions" of someone else.

But when you start doing evil, suddenly the world starts paying attention. Suddenly your presence is acknowledged. Suddenly, you're seen. You are almost invisible to most people within the narrative until you do evil, and that's a tragedy.

Have you seen the live action HTTYD designs? what do you think?

Honestly I think people are being a bit harsh on them. The big pitfalls I usually see with realistic reimaginings of animated/illustrated creatures is that they either just try to copy the design 1:1, seemingly without a lot of understanding of anatomy/style, or go the opposite direction and treat everything as cartoon exaggeration, toning down or removing features that exist in the real world for the sake of realism. most of these are basically fine on both counts, it looks like the character designers are actually trying to engage with what the original designs are communicating while also not forcing themselves to be 100% fidelic to them. Most of these are not bad designs to me. I will say I 1) don't like the zippleback; maybe it looks better in movement but off the first few images it seems like they just kind of ditched all the interesting (and genuinely reptilian) elements of the original, like it's alligator/lizard-like stance and the way it's spines look like a zipper, in favor of a pretty generic/less visually interesting design:

and 2) I mentioned before I'm really not big on the redesign toothless has throughout the animated movies; the sequels gave him an increasingly flatter, more humanish face with big "eyebrows" and I think it looks way less cute/less like a real animal. the live action design is very obviously referencing this later design and I think it looks pretty rough here too, honestly a bit uncanny valley:

side note: i always thought my harshness on this design choice was a kind of mean hot take but the other day i went into the httyd tumblr tag and man they are so much meaner than me. look at this

the funniest bits about veilguard are when it like. completely removes the plot points of previous games.

like everyone acts surprised and appalled that solas can't... cure the blight? the same blight that was Ravaging Ferelden in dao, and fatally infects tamlen? and forced hawke to be a refugee in da2, and kills aveline's husband and possibly hawke's sibling? and even in inquisition, there was a whole plot about felix being terminally ill from it, and the crestwood guy was killing tons of people to stop it from spreading? that same blight? the notoriously incurable and fatal blight??

and then at the end solas goes "oh yeah lol. i'll just, uhhh... go into the fade and soothe the blight 👍" ??? could he do this the WHOLE time, or did he just learn? how? can anyone else do it? shouldn't someone have done that earlier, if it's possible and no one seems shocked by him bringing up the concept? was he just messing around with creating the veil and the black city for no reason, then?

and it's the same for so many things. they set up "oh, the evanuris were SO powerful and difficult to kill, the only thing solas could do was crash his entire civilization and lock them into the black city and behind the veil, and the effort fully put him into a coma". and mythal is obviously kicking around thousands of years after her "murder" so the evanuris are really weird and immortal in some way.

but then, no, they're not that immortal! it turns out rook can just kill them. presumably solas should have simply done a few boss battles instead, to begin with, rather than fighting a rebellion for centuries and then obliterating his entire society? fhjsdghjdgf
