tldr; Disco Elysium made me feel hopeful about life - RDR2 triggered a deep but meaningful bout of depression in me
it's also weird bc like... you shouldn't feel this sad over the end of a video game, you know?
Disco Elysium is absolutely my favourite game like, ever? i've never felt the kinds of emotion and representation that i did before playing that game... but i didn't cry, when it ended... i expected the outcome i got, and that's genuinely, deeply unusual for me - i cry at the end of MOST games, maybe just because i become so invested in the story that i don't want it to end
Disco prepared me for was going to come about and made it something fun and humourous, but also beautiful in the end, regardless of how you play the game
it was one of the only video games i've played, got so invested in, and then not cried about when it ended, because everything felt worth it... it felt like i did something good, for the characters, and for the character i was playing
meanwhile RDR2 is... unforgiving? it seems almost better at points to play it as an absolute, irredeemable piece of shit, because there IS no chance of your character living the live they deserve if they work for it - he's stuck on a sinking ship of absolute despair, no matter what... there is no happy ending
it's like the polar opposite of Disco Elysium... in Disco you know at the end that you at least had an opportunity to make things right, no matter how fucked up you are - knowing you made people LAUGH is enough to make an entire playthrough worth it
in RDR2, you do your best over and over and over again, and then realise you were damned from the jump... nobody thanks you, everyone suspects you, everyone considers you vile....
in RDR2, you are LONELY....
and i really mean it when i say i don't think i've cried harder at the end of any piece of media than i did when i finished RDR2... after the horse, after Arthur... i cry hard, often, but i borderline screamed when it all happened
it's very polarizing
i can confidently say these are my two favourite games i've ever played
but the state of mind they leave you in is so different that it is actually bizarre... opposite ends of the spectrum if you're playing for a sense of hope

smth i honestly recommend everyone should do is like. keep a private folder of art u like on ur computer lol. and like. download art u like when u see it. ur gonna lose stuff Forever if u just like it, u know? and like, discord archives arent really enough lol. I have been downloading art since like 2016 & I have a LOT of art that was scrubbed from the internet otherwise, especially due to like. the antics of deviantart & twitter. And on things like twitter theres Barely a way to save art to begin with (bookmarks is Not good enough)
u do kinda lose Credit a lot of the time (unless u save it with it named? which i do sometimes but not always) and often like, it won't be the Perfect HQ or itll have a massive watermark on it. but like. since it's not really for Sharing as much as its for my own personal enjoyment, these things don't really bother me at all... Having a collection of art that i love that I can look at offline & like, On My Computer is so nice. And I back up a lot of it on hard drives when i back up my own art! Again, like, a lot of these pieces this is the Only way i can look at them anymore, and Maybe the only archive OF them.... I've had pieces from my friends Before they were my friends, that i just saved as a "fan", that THEY lost years later... I have pieces they hadn't Seen in years. And every year I Probably save at least a few more pieces that will become like, totally scrubbed from technology otherwise. idk. i think it's nice to have an archive of this art that is in my taste but also like, that i'd likely Lose otherwise.
i Hope people save my art. I don't honestly Think anyone does, but I Hope that like, if my shit ever blows up and all my accounts get scrubbed, Someone has at least one drawing I made saved to their computer 2 remember me. u know. Its like a scrapbook. I remember these ppls characters, i remember the communities at the time, i remember how i felt when i first saw the piece. Its really inspiring but also genuinely like, really Important to me and sentimental. I kinda think everyone should have their own collection but I think people are genuinely Scared to right click & save ppls art LOL. Genuinely where is the harm, though.

There's so many good and yummy things fall brings, but my absolutely favorite thing are roasted chestnuts. Nothing beats burning your finger tips while impatiently peeling open hot chestnuts right off the wood burning stove. I have to wait a whole year just to have them a handful of times. Oh to be a tiny troll and dig into a chestnut as big as my head. 😋

#Better drawn mdzs#mdzs#wei wuxian#lan wangji#digital art#This was a style experimentation doodle that took on a life of its own.#In a way it is a great example of 'beautiful failure'. The original goal was to try a pure black and white contrast piece.#Which I very much failed at doing. Not quite ready for that! However what this turned into is something I like a lot!#Different but in a way that really pushed me as an artist. A little less simple; a little more proportional.#I was also recently thinking about LWJ's grieving that we only catch glimpses of.#LWJ grieved his first love for 13 years. His love that was never reciprocated.#He chose to dedicate his heart to that mourning and most painfully of all - he did so knowing there was no end to that grief.#Wei Wuxian comes back to life in MDZS but that is an exception. Not the expectation.#He was dead. Not missing. Not 'maybe in hiding'. He was dead and his spirit unreachable.#Jiang Cheng went forwards with denial but LWJ takes that grief on. He copes by continuing to carry the weight with him.#Let me be clear. Neither are healthy approaches. It is a way to cope but it does not mean that is healing or healthy.#Grief is loved transformed but it is also about endurance and letting go. Grief can change you. You can also change your grief.#It isn't a good or evil thing to experience. It is just an experience.
