🌍 Crumb Maps & Planet Puddles: Alice Explores the WHOLE WORLD (Kind Of)
By Alice (and Mr. Fluffernutter, Global Snack Navigator) HELLOOOOOOOOO my globe-twirling jellybeans!! 📺💫 Guess what?! Big Sister Ariel just wrote the WORLD’S MOST GIGANTICAL paper all about continents, oceans, mountains, and those fun squiggly land things called landforms. I read the whole thing! (Okay, Mr. Fluffernutter read it while I rolled around in a blanket fort, but I totally listened…

no one has said anything to me about this yet so i'm coming out and saying it myself
Tumblr media
IGNIHYDE DUO (trio) REALLY WERE BOOK 7 MVPS. HOLY CRAP 😭 Of course, that's not to talk down the contributions of the other characters (like damn, did Silver's UM come in clutch, and everyone had their own moments) but!! Right now, there's already a lot of talk about Diasomnia--for good reason, it's their book--so I want to give Ignihyde their stars too.
Like Silver said at the party, none of this would be possible without them and help from S.T.Y.X.! It was Ortho's very nature of being a robot that allowed him a loophole to reach out to Idia and navigate the dreams. Otherwise, Silver would be dream hopping randomly and it would take so much longer to invite all the relevant people. Ortho also helps S.T.Y.X. gather data about the current situation on Sage's Island. And--MAY I ADD????--at one point, Ortho was confronted by THE Malleus Draconia, who threatened to end him on the spot with lightning (which, may I remind you, is something Ortho's official profile states he dislikes). Not only that, but to be brave enough to believe in his brother not rejecting him in favor of a reality in which OG!Ortho never died... ORTHO'S BITE SIZED BUT HE'S SO BRAVE
Then Idia????? He provided a ton of useful support. Making that cheat tool, summoning everyone, coding in all those hacks, explaining what's going on in a way that's easy to digest (and that video????), TELLING MALLEUS TO HIS FACE HE'S TURNING INTO THE RULER OF EVIL... Rushing in to send the sword flying at Malleus when Silver dropped it??????? And can we talk about how he's so pathetically out of shape but pushes himself to sprint to the meeting point anyway?! HIS MOMENT ON THE MAGICAL WHEEL???!??!?!?????? 💀 (otaku) PRINCE RIDING IN ON A (mechanical) HORSE
Let's not forget OG!Ortho too!! He may exist only as an entity in Idia's dream space, but it's so clear he's important too. Maybe not as a physical force, but definitely as emotional support OTL OG!Ortho being so friendly with Idia but then deciding to stand in his way as a "final boss" to test Idia's resolve??? Him sending Idia off by telling him "the entire world is waiting for you", not genuinely wanting to trap him in the cold, dark Underworld... His reappearance in the Ignihyde battle map against Malleus??? POLITELY GREETING MALLEUS AND THEN CASUALLY COMPLIMENTING ORTHO ON HIS NEW GEAR??? I can't with this cuteness 🤡 AND THE WAY ALL THREE OF THEM CALL EACH OTHER BROTHERS...
qebhlqeviyo ygiFWIQEBGT26 1387TGOEBIADGDADBGIPN anNYWAY THAT'S ALL TO sAy I SALuTE THE SHROUD BROTRHERSE 🫡 THEy HARD cARRiED AnD BECAmE THE hEROES THEY WAnTED TO BE AS KIDS… Dreams do come true after all, fellas ❤️

escape from isla nublar
Tumblr media
words: 2.6k
warnings: jurassic world alternate universe, dinosaurs, violence, brief mentions of gore (but not detailed), illusions of sex but not actually written out, established relationship, soft!rafe, death tw, proposal, mentions of anxiety & panic attacks
a/n: im having a lot of fun with writing aus, so here! take another one!
“thank you so much for bringing me here, rafe.” you coo out, getting onto your tiptoes to press a kiss to his cheek.
rafes arm slides around your waist, keeping you tugged in close as the boat approaches the dock of the island. you squeal along with all the children gathered around impatient and ready to jump off the boat and explore.
“welcome to isla nublar!” the voice of a friendly sounding woman says over the speakers. “please disembark slowly and carefully and enjoy your stay in jurassic park!”
“baby, can i just say-” rafe begins as the crowd shuffles forward, most with bags in their hands or suitcases being wheeled behind them, but rafe has already arranged to have them brought to your room so you can get right to exploring.
“mhm.” you hum, encouraging him to continue.
“that you've been so chill this entire trip so far. proud of you.” it might sound weird to anyone else, but you've always gotten nervous when leaving your home for too long, worried something bad would happen. rafe saw it on your first trip he took you on where you tried and very much failed to hide your anxiety.
“im so excited there's like no room for nerves.” you giggle as you walk down the gangway. “and the fact that you let me plan everything. you know how much i love a schedule.”
“we are so different.” rafe shakes his head, hand squeezing yours as you step into the concrete, turning away from the crowds heading to the resort and towards the main street and the iconic innovation center.
“opposites attract.” you state, and it couldn't be more true, but rafe loves you more than he could ever envision caring about someone.
as you round the lagoon, trying to see if you're able to catch a glimpse of the giant mosasaurs in its depths, you feel your excitement levels only elevate more.
“oh my gosh, there's the petting zoo entrance.” you turn and pout to rafe.
“isn't that mostly for kids?” he raises a singular eyebrow.
“i mean yeah, but you also get to pet baby dinosaurs. totally worth it.” you tug him towards the entrance.
--
“okay.” you sigh, placing your hands on your hips. “i guess we should slow down so we have things to do for the rest of the trip.”
“im already exhausted.” rafe chuckles. “how about dinner then to the hotel?”
as tired as rafe is, he's certainly not going to complain about being run around isla nublar when he gets to see the gleaming smile on your face every time he looks at you.
“sounds good… we could go to winstons steak house,” you point in one direction, then the other “jurassic cafe, or the brachiosaurus restaurant.”
“how about whatever is closest.” rafe rubs his hand over his face.
“okay steak house it is.” it's your turn to take rafes hand.
he barely manages to stay awake through dinner, and by the time you're back at the hotel, he's passed out on the bed before he can change into his pajamas.
--
“what would you like to do today?” you ask rafe. “anything but that hang gliding, you know how i feel about heights.”
“the gyrospheres look fun.” rafe shrugs and looks at the map pulled up on your phone. “or kayaking.”
“why not both.” you toss your phone to the side and cup rafes cheek, bringing your lips together in a kiss.
“you're the best boyfriend ever.”
rafe places a hand on your shoulder and pushes you down onto the mattress, laying you back.
“we can wait a little bit though, right?” the smirk on his face gives him away.
“i think that would be fine.” you giggle, pulling rafes shirt off over his head.
--
“that was actually so fun.” you hum out.
“it was when you let me drive and we could finally go fast.” rafe says. you were halfway through the gyrosphere tour when you handed the controls over to rafe, allowing him to speed through the ankylosaurus herds.
“but we will not be doing that on the kayak.” you hold your finger up.
“yes ma’am.” rafe says, slipping the attendant a $20 bill to move you to the front of the line, not wanting you to have to wait.
“life vest.” rafe says, slipping it over your head while he just grabs his and throws it into the kayak, not planning on putting it on unless something happens.
rafe helps you step down into the kayak, grabbing the paddle knowing he's going to sit in the back and do all the work.
--
“this is so beautiful.” you say, leaning back into your seat as you look at the stegosaurus and it's long neck reaching up to grab the leaves, his feet submerged in the water as you paddle past.
“this might be even better than the velociraptors.” rafe says.
“wait-” you sit up. “whats that sound? is that a radio?”
it takes a second for rafes ears to pick it up, but he can hear the frantic static of voices over a walkie talkie.
rafe continues to paddle, realizing suddenly that you've separated from all the other kayaks and can't see anyone. he brings the kayak closer to the side when he hears the radio as you reach out to pick it up from the muddy bank.
you turn the volume knob up as you try to make out what the voice is saying through the water logged speaker.
“we sent the containment unit out with nonlethal force and they're all dead! immediate evacuation, get everyone inside and back to the hotel!”
“rafe…” you turn towards him, eyes widening in fear.
“im sure it's just some kid pulling a prank.” rafe takes the radio, finding the speech button and pressing it. “what is going on?”
“who is that? this is an authorized channel.” one voice says before another cuts it out.
“whoever you are, seek shelter immediately. the indominus rex is on the loose, currently heading towards-” the radio sparks and then dies out.
“shit.” rafe hits it against his thigh, but it's clearly no use.
“rafe.” your voice is already shaking. “the indominus rex. i don't know what it is, but it doesn't sound good.”
“okay.” rafe stands up and steps out of the kayak, pulling it onto the bank before helping you out. “baby-” he places his hands on your shoulders. “i need you to stay calm. you know this island like the back of your hand. where are we?”
“we-” you take a deep, shaking breath. “we are halfway through the kayak adventure. we should head just west and find the road to the aviary.”
“okay.” rafe presses a kiss to your forehead. “let's go quickly and quietly. im sure they've already contained whatever dinosaur escaped.”
“yeah.” you nod, gulping, not so sure.
rafes steady hand stays in yours, helping you over bushes and downed trees.
“shouldn't be much farther.” you bite your lip, hoping you didn't get the direction wrong.
“hang on.” rafe whispers, placing a finger over his lips.
before you can fully comprehend what's happening, he's tugging you down under a giant tropical plant, the leaves hiding you as you hear whatever rafe did, the pounding footsteps of dinosaurs.
“that's the stegosaurus we saw earlier.” you remember the distinct marking along its side.
“get over here.” rafe pulls you in tighter, not allowing you to see as he presses you against the stem of the large plant, covering your body with his own.
“it's okay, it's a herbivore.” you say, when you hear the second set of dinosaur footsteps following it. you tense up, and you can feel a panic attack setting in as you pick your head up to see some sort of giant rex running after it.
you both stay still and silent until it's clearly far enough away.
“rafe.” you tremble as you turn into your back, his body still hovering over yours, protecting you, willing to put himself in the line of danger if he needs to.
“it's okay.” his voice is betraying how scared he is as well, but he's going to try his best to not let you see it. “let's just get to the aviary.”
“i-i can't.” you shake your head. “im fucking terrified.”
“me too, baby.” he says. “but we gotta get under cover somewhere before that thing catches up to the stegosaurus and comes back for us.”
you swallow deeply, eyes closing for a brief minute, gaining all your courage you possibly can.
“okay.” you're up and moving quickly, running towards the aviary. your steps are no longer balanced and cautious, moving quickly through the jungle until you make it through the trees to the grassy plane.
“the aviary!” you point at the large glass dome, just in time to see a helicopter careening into it, smashing a hole that instantly has pterodactyls flying out.
“shit!” rafe shouts, tugging you back into the treeline.
“we're gonna die.” you sob out, not able to hold back your tears as you crumple to the ground.
“no.” rafe says firmly. “i will not lose you.”
he knows he needs to move, especially as the pterodactyls come closer, and he doesn't have time to console you enough to get you ready to move.
rafe reaches down and pulls you into his arms, hugging your shaking form against his chest as he follows the same path of disturbed leaves and muddy footprints back to the river.
“i need you to paddle.” rafe says, glad your kayak is still in the same space. “i know you're scared, but you need to help me here. we need to go fast.”
you sniffle and look up at rafe, your big eyes filled with tears causing his heart to pang out in pain. “okay.”
rafe bends down, pressing your lips together in a soft and caressing kiss before climbing onto the back of the kayak.
you both immediately begin to paddle hastily, not knowing where the next meat eating dinosaur could be.
“the river goes underground then should let us off near main street.” you tell rafe, eyes briefly closing to envision the map in your head before putting your entire focus back onto paddling.
“baby, still.” rafe says softly, both of you pausing as you look upwards, seeing pterodactyls wings flapping over, thankfully not seeming to notice you under the treetops, yet you still wait until they pass over before beginning to paddle again.
“there's the cave.” you say, pointing as the river bends and you head underground, lights strung along the cave ceiling as you paddle underground, able to take a deep breath now that you're under cover.
“are there any dinosaurs in this cave?” rafe questions, helping you move back so you're leaned against him.
“shouldn't be.” you say, eyes closing as your adrenaline drops now that you're mostly safe.
“go ahead and rest.” rafe hums as he paddles, looking down at you in relief.
--
“y/n.” rafe shakes your shoulder and you sit up with a gasp, looking around, waiting to see the indominus rex charging at you.
“it's okay.” rafe says. “we're just leaving the cave.”
“so that wasn't all just a nightmare?” you sit up, knowing you must not have been asleep that long, but already feeling majorly refreshed.
“im afraid not.” rafe sighs as you grab your paddle to help steer.
“so this let's out…”
“near the resort. we should be safe there.” you squint into the dying sunlight as the kayak leaves the caves and enters into the large man-made lake.
you both quickly steer to the side, glad to be out of the kayak and on your own two feet.
“to the resort.” you say, able to tell that there are still people running from main street in that direction.
rafe is about to toss the paddle back into the boat when a screech comes from overhead and you both look up to see a pterodactyl perched over cave entrance.
“run!” rafe yells, not turning his back from the dinosaur to see that you haven't moved an inch, not leaving him.
the pterodactyl lunges forward just as rafe swings his paddle at it, hitting it in the beak, but it only enrages the dinosaur more.
you move quickly to grab your paddle, joining rafe in hitting at it, keeping the snapping beak away from pecking at your skin.
“baby, go.” rafe grunts out.
“no! im not leaving you.” you keep slapping at its beak and head until it gets annoyed and roars before taking off to the sky.
“fuck.” rafe groans. “i hate dinosaurs. sorry baby.”
“that's okay.” you say with a slight laugh. “i don't think i like them that much anymore either.”
you take off towards the resort, keeping your oars held tightly in your hands, just in case any pterodactyls try something.
“onto the ship or into the resort?” you question, seeing people trying to get into both.
rafe opens his mouth to respond when a roar rips through the air.
he looks around quickly, pulling you into taller grass, not having any other close cover.
“some of the gates must be down.” you whisper.
“why?” rafe questions, not doubting you as his eyes search through the field before you point at the crowd of people, even more frantic as you watch from a distance.
“because there's a metriacanthosaurus.”
the name makes rafe blink harshly before he sees it, the dinosaur flinging people around as it takes advantage of the hoards of people trying to get to cover.
“oh my god.” you cover your mouth, watching as the carnivore rips someone in half.
“don't watch.” rafe pulls you further into the grass, tucking you against his chest.
you close your eyes and focus on his arm wrapped around your shoulder instead of the screams.
“i got you.” rafe whispers, free hand tapping his shorts to make sure the box is still there in his pocket.
“i know.” you press your lips into his neck. “i know.”
gunshots ring out and rafe looks out of the grass to see that the dinosaur has finally brought down and everyone is safely inside.
“okay, let's run.” rafe helps you stand, deciding to head towards the boat instead of the hotel, knowing it's just one step closer to getting you safe.
you take off in a run, entering up the gangway you went down just yesterday morning.
“inside the cabin.” one of the staff says quickly, ushering you through the glass doors into the packed hallway of people, but rafe keeps moving, tucking you into him until you're towards the front of the boat, able to move up a level and find a place to sit down.
“we're okay.” you say as you relax into the sofa. “we’re alive.”
“i love you.” rafe says, head dropping to your shoulder. “im never talking you on another vacation like this again, but i love you.”
“and i thought you were protective before.” you chuckle, breathing out heavily.
“really ruined my whole plan though.” rafe knows that you both just experienced a trauma that will no doubt need to be unpacked later, but you're just happy to be safe inside the cruise ship.
“what plan?” you lift your head up.
“not the best time but-” rafe sits up and pulls a box out of his pocket. “i planned to ask you in front of the waterfall, all romantic and sweet. but i don't want to waste a single moment longer.”
rafe flicks the top of the box up to reveal a glimmering ring. “will you marry me?”
you let out a squeal and jump into rafes arms, “yes!”

pink ur latest haku fic!!!!!! god perv haku who indulges himself is SO GOOD ive read it at least five times now soaking in every single detail you left in & tossing myself into the sun!!!!!! thank u for the food 🙏🏻🙏🏻
reading it 5 times over, soaking up all the details, and proceeding 2 yeet urself in2 the sun bc of my fic is quite literally one of the most memorable compliments ive received i think. thank you.
i want u 2 know that reading ur tags MADE MY DAY!!!!!!!! huge thank u 2 u 4 noticing the bit about the callus!!!!!!!!!! the way i did actual research on where calluses would appear on your hands after using the flute 4 so long... apparently they mostly appear on your pointer or thumb. however, i considered that haku's left handed and has probably been practicing since he was a kid. i assumed he didn't know how to hold it at first, so i wouldn't be surprised if there were still some rough parts on his left fingertips from holding it incorrectly.
anyway ur tags and this ask have pleased me so much ive decided 2 write a blurb from haku's pov this won't be long at all BUT i hope u enjoy regardless.
Victim (Haku's POV blurb; NOT part 2)
Tumblr media
came 2 me on a whim everybody enjoy im too lazy 2 make this official. MINORS DNI!!!!!!!!!
The moment you close the door to the bathroom, Haku's already on his feet, moving towards the door.
He tries to control his breathing as he leans against the door, brushing his fingers over the doorknob as he listens for running water. He bites his lip as his dick twitches in his pants for the nth time that day, trying to keep up his composure.
Following you inside and not resisting your insistence was a bad idea. He'd known that once the door closed behind him. The door sounded like an ominous thud, and he couldn't help but feel as though he'd fallen into a trap of sorts, even if it was one you'd unwittingly set for him. He assumed it was unwitting, at least. Your flustered reactions and casual behavior gave him the impression that you were none the wiser to his deeper desires. He couldn't let you suspect his desires any more than you already had without risking being found out. Now that he's got it, he'd do anything to keep that "favorite ghoul" status. The things you'd let him get away with, as your favorite, opened up a world of possibilities, especially pertaining to you.
If only you had any idea how viscerally he'd craved you. How he longed to drag his tongue across the back of your neck, replacing the memory of a lavender curse with the sticky, inescapable feeling of being wanted. How he longed to trace the outline of your body and sink his fingers into your plush skin, mapping every external inch of you with his hands. How he longed to sink his cock inside of you, carefully stimulating you with each stroke, promising each time he bruised your insides that he would give you time. More time to enjoy life, more time to make memories, more time to spend with him.
He would crack that curse, but until then, he wanted to indulge himself in you as much as possible. Learning about you could help, or at least, that was the excuse he used to help justify his behavior. He doesn't know what started it, but he knows that a small interest and desire to help you feel comfortable transformed all too quickly into an obsessive love. He couldn't help but envy all the time you would spend with other ghouls, especially ones who were too friendly and flirty like he was. Rui was already a potential rival, having been cursed and being able to relate to you in ways Haku found himself lacking. On one hand, he wanted to find more excuses to spend time with you, but on the other hand, he's pulled around this campus quite frequently under the guise of "favors" and doesn't want to make you uncomfortable in case he does something questionable. He was a pervert, and he knew that. He was regrettably unhinged, and he knew that, too. Being alone with you was a risk in and of itself. But he'd be damned if he didn't take advantage of it, at least a little. Curse the lustful nature of the demon he'd made a pact with and soon devoured. It was like he just couldn't stop.
The sound of rushing water shook him from his daze. You'd finally started your shower. He rests his hand fully on the doorknob, waiting for a sign that you'd stepped under the water. When he hears the curtain pull back, and no other noise, he almost rejoices internally. If the curtain was open, like he assumed, he'd have a full, unobstructed view of you, in all your glory.
He uses one hand to carefully turn the doorknob, ensuring it doesn't creak and alert you of his presence. His other hand snakes down his body, undoing his belt and pulling his cock out. This was risky, and probably way over the line, but he was far too emboldened by his new title as "favorite ghoul" to even care. He cracks the door open, sighs in relief when it doesn't creak, and peeks inside, already stroking himself out of anticipation.
There you are, flinching underneath the cold water of the shower, rubbing your hands along your arms. He was already salivating at the thought of your naked body, but seeing it is an entirely different beast. He muffles his heavy breathing by biting down on his lip again, moving his hand faster over his aching cock. He wishes he could step inside and join you, finally yielding to the truth behind the jokes he makes all the time. How he'd touch you, how he'd caress you, how he'd let his hands travel all over with wild abandon, stimulating any soft and sensitive points he could find. He imagines leaving bruises on your neck from harsh sucking, a way to let everyone know that you had a favorite. He swallows his gathering saliva, trying to get ahold of his senses, but it was hardly any use. His cock jumps in his hand as he strokes himself faster, letting his mind run wild with imagination. All the things he could do with you, for you, to you... They swim in his head like taunting treasures, an opportunity that was so close, yet still so far away. He watches as you begin to bathe, finally under warm water again. God, if he could, he'd happily clean every inch of you with his tongue. If only you'd let him. His yearning must have reached enormous depths to think something of that caliber and not recoil at his own yearning, but he didn't care. If anything, the thought of exploring your body with his tongue riles him up further. He sinks his teeth further into his bottom lip, turning them a cherry red. His toes curl in his shoes and his vision starts to swim. He's getting close. His grip on the doorknob strengthens, using it as a shallow attempt to ground himself. He strokes himself quicker, clenching his jaw. His eyes are still on you as you bathe, blissfully unaware of his invasion of your privacy. It's when you turn towards the door again, unknowingly giving him another perfect glance of you in your purest form, that he finally bursts. He doesn't stop stroking, riding it out, his eyes rolling into the back of his skull. His body jerks forward repeatedly, and he leans into the door to keep himself from falling, steadily gazing at you.
He hardly has time to register that he's just left a puddle of a mess on your bathroom floor when you glance towards the door, making eye contact with him for a split second. He closes the door quicker than he thought possible, panic spreading through his veins. His heartbeat is loud in his ears, louder than the pattering rain or the rushing water from the bathroom. Shit. This could be a fatal mistake if you'd at all registered what he'd done. He lets go of the doorknob and stuffs himself back in his pants, trying to appear as innocent as one could be in a situation such as this. When he hears no further noise except the water running and indications you'd gone back to bathing, he sighs with relief. Maybe you hadn't noticed. He carefully slinks away from the door, hoping you won't hear his footsteps.
Now that he has the room to himself, it's tempting to touch everything in sight with the hand he just jacked off with as a means of remotely laying claim. Unfortunately, he has a separate mission. He does, however, let his palm trail against your pillows, if only for a moment.
As he does, he slowly walks over to the far corner of your bed, spotting the hamper full of clothes you'd tucked away in a panic earlier. His tongue flicks against his lips absentmindedly, and he approaches the basket, quietly rifling through your clothes with slight urgency. He finds the freshest pair of panties he can, and without any hesitation, presses them to his face, inhaling deeply. When he exhales, a low groan follows. The blood would be rushing straight to his dick if he hadn't just spent it while peeping at you in the shower.
He finds the gusset of your panties and presses his tongue against it, lapping up the remnants of your essence. He chews at the fabric between his teeth, trying to draw out any flavor that had seeped into the fabric. He's broken out of his stupor when the running water stops, indicating that you stepped out of the shower. He jumps, shoving the pair he has into his pockets. He grabs a few other inconspicuous pairs before quickly and quietly dashing to the other side of the room. He picks up his blazer and hurriedly puts it on as though getting ready to leave when he hears the bathroom door open. He looks over, internally sighing with relief. When he notices you staring a bit too hard at the floor where he'd left a mess, he calls out to you.
"Hey," he starts, adjusting his blazer, hoping to whatever gods were listening that he didn't look like he was out of his mind.
When he finally leaves, waving at you, he thinks of the promise he made to not do anything strange while you're in the shower. He can't suppress the smile that curls his lips.
Snakes don't keep promises, after all.

don't you worry child
– tales of the voracity pathstrider
✎𓂃 so like i lied and now here’s something not on my wip list. remember the theme park scene with three aventurines? this is loosely based on that. young kakavasha calls you mister like twice but that’s cause you’re looming tall. i wish i could yap about more exploring the map, but it’s already way too long :( would’ve speedran this fic but i was trying to beat divergent v (spoiler alert, i’m still trying)
“for in every adult there dwells the child that was, and in every child there lies the adult that will be.”
Tumblr media
when aventurine showed you the dream bubble made of his memories, he wasn’t expecting to bare his inner child to you. he thought it’d be some of his earlier days at the ipc, some of his conquests and schemes, or maybe some of his glorious wins at the casino, not what he has buried for so long – and definitely not something he’s tried so hard to deny for so long. sure, he will tell you eventually, but not now. not yet, not when he’s barely ready.
and yet here you are, face to face with a child whose height barely reaches your hips. alone. aventurine said he’d be here with you, but where the hell is he?
you agreed to give your boyfriend’s(?) dream bubble a try, but where are you?
no one’s confessed but there are already rumors in the office so like tentatively dating, you suppose
and who is this small human in front of you?
you adjust your scarf, pulling it a little higher as you stare at the boy
he stares back at you
you try to not glare at him, but for all you know, you might still be glaring anyway
a few minutes pass, and the child blinks at you
he lifts one hand up, look at his feet then back at you, then he tiptoes
"you’re so tall, mister!"
you look around for anyone else. there’s no one else.
"me?" you point at yourself
you’re not good with kids, you don’t know if you should bother engaging him, but hey, he’s just a kid
no reason to ignore him or tell him to leave you alone
if anything, him being all the way out here in the unregulated areas of the theme park means you should do something about it
maybe you should bring him back to the main area?
"yes, you, mister!" the child nods enthusiastically. "woah, you’re so big! can you come down a little?"
first off, that’s what she said. second, and more importantly, how is he not remotely intimidated by your presence? you’re a pretty towering figure even by your own standards, and you don’t exactly have a friendly face, so the fact that a kid of all people started talking to you…
but the more you look at him, the more you feel a sense of deja vu. his face reminds you of someone you know, but his demeanor is, like, the furthest thing away from that person.
you can’t really say no to him, so you crouch down slowly
you don’t know how to interact with him, but you can at least satisfy his curiosity
"like this?" you’re now a head and a half taller than him. somehow, he takes this as a sign to approach
"child, has no one taught you to not talk to strangers?"
he gasps, like he suddenly remembered everything his parents warned him to not do, and he lowers his head like he’s just done something bad
"b-but you don’t seem like a bad person!" he bursts out, clumsily fiddling with his fingers. "you, you don’t give me the same feeling bad people do…"
"you should still be careful." you sigh as you adjust your scarf so it’s not touching the ground. "well, that aside. i’m down here now. can i help you?"
you watch as they kid slowly walk up to you, the curiosity shining in his eyes
you didn’t deny his claims! that means you’re a good person!
you’re mildly fascinated by the delicate little human
"i’m looking for someone," he says, finally looking up at you again, "t-then i have to go home… but i’m a little lost…"
is this what the world has come to? a kid asking you for help? in a dream bubble of all things?
though you did agree to experiencing the whole thing, so you should probably play along
"alright." you nod. "how should i call you?"
the child brightens up when you agree to help, and he almost reaches for your hands before he remembered personal space
"umm," he starts, keeping his hands awkwardly half-raised, "my name is kakavasha. mister, what about you?"
"kakavasha, hm?" you say, and you offer him one hand. you briefly wonder if it’s okay to tell dream kakavasha your name – this doesn’t seem like a typical dream bubble and all – but worst comes to worst, you’ll just force your way out.
so you tell the child your name, and you feel an overwhelming sense of adoration when he gingerly tries to repeat the syllables that you’ve just said.
dragon hoarding treasure moment intensifies
this kid is going to grow up into the man you know today? absolutely crazy
you’re kind of spacing out as you try to reconcile the kid in front of you with your boss
and while you’re doing that, you vaguely hear him repeating your name over and over again
"yes, that’s close enough." you finally interrupt his attempts to perfect his pronunciation. "where to, kakavasha?"
you stand up, and holy shit you’re so much taller than him
you briefly wonder if you can even hear him from all the way up there…
you can. you hear him crisp and clear.
maybe a little too clear
he’s loud.
"can i lead the way?" he asks, as if you’d say no to him (???)
he grabs onto your hand without any reservations and he starts to drag you off
what do you do??? no human interaction has prepared you for children??? because no kid wanted to approach you like ever???
you’re taken so much by surprise that you kind of just… froze up
cue him trying to tug you somewhere but failing miserably
he tries with both hands, but you still wouldn’t budge
super confused
he tries harder
still nothing??? just how big is this big person???
"oh, sorry." you snap back to your senses, and you let him pull you to wherever he wants
after a few turns, pinball machines, and an entire maze later, you find yourself at the central stage, where aventurine did his grandest closing act. you can still see the slash of nihility, but it doesn’t seem that anyone else can see it. perhaps a distortion in the dream bubble itself?
kakavasha takes you straight to the center, right at where the slashed monitor sits.
this whole thing hasn’t sat well with you since you touched that bloody dream bubble
where the fuck is aventurine?
who is kakavasha trying to find?
why would they be here?
unless…
you come to a stop when kakavasha stops to look around.
"oh, mister’s not here anymore." he whispers, lowering his eyes and fiddling with his fingers, "of course he wouldn’t be waiting…"
you slowly walk up by his side. "who exactly are we looking for? i don’t think you’ve ever told me."
"oh!" kakavasha gasps, "oh." he sputters a little, and he points to the stage. "i ran into a really cool mister earlier, and apparently he’s an actor!"
now you know who he’s talking about
is this dr edward’s experimental model or something? it’s rare to see memoria taking such form
not that you understand memoria
did aventurine give you this dream bubble knowing this will happen?
so when he said he’d be around, did he mean…?
did he literally regress for this???? what is this, the most fantasy novel to have ever fantasized?
or is he watching you like some guy watching a playthrough of a rpg?
or is this entire thing a bug? because you thought you still have a few years to go before aventurine would even think of letting you so far into his mind
you sigh, it’s all far too complicated for you to think about
you’ll focus on the kid for now
"i see," you reply. you didn’t want to give such a dry response, but what are you even supposed to say?
"but he seemed a little sad…" kakavasha mumbles, "i was hoping to catch him after his show…"
you’re slightly tempted to say "well you just missed him", but your brain is telling you to not do it
fine, you’ll hold your tongue :(
you watch as the child run around
you give him a few ten minutes before you crouch and open one arm for him
"come on," you sigh, "we’ll be here all day."
kakavasha looks at you, at your unreadable eyes, then your arm, then he tentatively slots himself into your side.
"woah, you’re so tall!" he exclaims when you slowly stand up with him on your shoulder. "i’m so high up! hehe!"
"i know, you’ve said that already," you deadpan
for how unfriendly you are, you sure aren’t hiding your worries well
your other arm has been hovering in front of the boy since the moment you stood up
and you’ve been careful with keeping your arm steady while you walk
"you see him?"
"no…" comes kakavasha’s downtrodden reply. "i don’t have much time left, papa and mama will be worried if i don’t go home soon…"
you play along, wandering around for kakavasha to look for his adult self. "that’s a shame."
he turns to stare at you
you sound like you don’t give too much of a shit
but he can see that you’re a gentle person at heart
why else would you follow him around, hold his hand, and now lift him up so he can get a better view?
and you’ve also made sure that no monsters could get him
he makes a sad noise when you end up right in front of the monitor
you wonder if he could also see the slash of nihility, or if he intuitively sensed something
he taps your shoulder, a series of quick, feather-light pokes
"down?" you ask, but you’re already lowering kakavasha back onto the ground.
he approaches the broken monitor. "mister… did his show go well?" he grasps your hand tightly. "it was a great success, wasn’t it?"
you feel for the child, you really do. but this is a dream, an illusion where your actions won’t make any actual difference. you want to wrap him up and coddle him, but in the end, that will change nothing.
"that it was." you nod, and you envelop his way smaller hands in your own. "the greatest success anyone’s ever seen."
somehow, your heart hurts when he breaks into a smile
"i’m glad." he says, like a weight’s been lifted off his chest
he probably already knows what happened
he knows himself best, after all
it’s not like you expect the child in front of you to be able to see through aventurine’s act
but they’re one in the same
that reckless abandon and affinity to games of chance didn’t come out of nowhere
you’re fairly certain he has his own guesses as to what happened to that "mister"
"do you know where the really cool mister is now?" kakavasha asks, looking at you with the most innocent gaze you’ve ever seen. "is he doing well?"
you can’t help but hear the subtext in his words, and you let out a soft snort.
it’s such a "him" thing to do.
"i don’t know," you answer honestly, for you really don’t know. "but what i am certain of… is that he is not doing too badly."
you take note of the portal that slowly appeared in the middle of the stage. a picture frame, a crack, and hands prying that crack right open.
you look into the distance, past the slash, past penacony, into the stars
"he’s alive," you say, "he’s living. will live."
you snap yourself out of your trance and look at the child next to you
"i’ll look after him, don’t worry."
you hope those words could be some sort of reassurance to him
"promise?" he offers you a pinky. "pinky promise?"
that’s cute
a quick image of others seeing you making a pinky promise flashes before your eyes
but what’s more important than the present?
"pinky promise." you hook your pinky with his. "i’ll make sure the really cool mister lives well."
kakavasha finally notices the portal, and he realizes it’s time to go home. he’s stayed out for too long, and now his family wants him home.
wherever home is to him, anyway
how do you even go home through a portal in a dream bubble
ever considered that maybe it’s better if you didn’t question everything
you let him drag you towards the portal
he doesn’t want to say goodbye to you quite yet
he’s pretty interested in this tall, scary person who isn’t actually scary at all
and he really wants to become friends with you (more like spend more time with you)
but he really needs to go, before his parents start to worry
you understand, of course you do, with how he’s fidgeting and glancing between you and the portal
and the face of a kid who’s just been told their playtime is over
so you nudge him a little, hoping that it’ll prompt him to go
are you surprised when it doesn’t work? not really? me neither
he refuses to let go of your hand
like legit just does not, even if both he and you know he has to
what can you do in such a scenario???
nothing’s prepared you for a silent tantrum
can you even call it a tantrum???
quick, come up with something!
alas, it doesn’t feel right to simply wave and part ways
"young kakavasha." you kneel down and unwrap your scarf from your neck. "take this with you," you say as you wrap the fabric around him, paying the strange feeling of exposing your scales no mind. you open your mouth to elaborate, but your words die in your throat.
kakavasha looks at you; he doesn't need to crane his neck for once, and he flinches from the foreign feeling of your fingers ghosting ever so slightly against his face. for how much you’ve taken care of him while he wandered around the theme park, you’re still only a really kind stranger. nowhere close enough to be giving each other gifts.
"it gets cold at night," you say, finally cracking a tiny smile for the child before you, your hand landing on top of his head gently. "you’ll at least be warmer this way."
you watch kakavasha’s bewildered expression as he touches his new scarf, feeling the smooth fabric and how oddly chunky it feels looped around him. it isn’t a bad feeling, not at all. it’s more like a big hug, the sort that scares away the monster under the bed and wards off nightmares.
"thank you…" he mumbles, still dazed and taken by the new addition to his limited wardrobe. he lifts his face to look at you, taking note of your iridescent scales and your soft gaze. he beams, a grin so bright that it ignites even your inhuman heart. "i’ll treasure this! it feels so nice… thank you so much!"
"mm. go on, now." you nod, and you nudge him towards the portal. "don’t keep your family waiting."
kakavasha blinks at you. "you’re not coming?" he asks, tilting his head to the side innocently.
"unfortunately." you beckon him forward and give him a small kiss on the top of his head before you stand up fully. "if fate shall have it, though… i suppose we will meet again."
"sis has always said that i’m blessed with fortune!" kakavasha almost jumps to grab onto you, but he just misses your shoulders by a hair. "see you next time!"
he spends a good minute waving at you before he turns around to leave. somehow… you feel an overwhelming sense of sadness. an inexplicable wave of melancholy washes over you like frigid waves on a windy day, and there’s nothing you can do about it.
you watch the child until he disappears into the frame, and you don’t look away for another minute.
"see you, kakavasha."

Headcannon: Sebastian takes care of people
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media

He takes care of strangers
Like silly little first years lost in the moving stairs, albeit with a frown and a sharp lecture about the dangers of walking around the castle and being too prideful to carry a map when they could barely locate their dorm rooms, firmly putting a quick end to older students' teasing when their jokes cross a line, and even ending up as the reluctant volunteer tutor (live training dummy) for Defense Against the Dark Arts after Professor Hecat assigned him the role to complete his detention.
This, in turn, makes him surprisingly popular with the kids to his bewilderment as they gravitate toward their grumpy but reliable senior.
"Have a good day, Sebastian!"
Both of you frown in confusion at the gaggle of cheerful first-year Hufflepuffs who eagerly greet him as you pass the halls. One even waved at him before they turned into a corner.
"What was that?"
He shrugs. "Hell if I know."
He takes care of his friends
"Amitt! Watch out!"
The Ravenclaw could barely turn to the familiar booming voice before he was shoved to the ground.
"Hey! You aren't allowed in the field!"
"Are you alright, Amitt?" He realizes the concerned voice of his friend, Sebastian, brought him out of his stupor. And in his hand is the bludger that nearly had an intimate interaction with the back of his head.
"Oh! Sebastian! Many thanks! I didn't know Slytherin practices ran this late. I was on my way to the top of the bleachers -- the best views of the summer night sky, I tell you."
"Thakkar, you don't have permission to be here!"
Sebastian rolls his eyes, feeling Amitt's anxiety rising as Slytherin quidditch players land one after another, looming over him. "Back off, all of you. He nearly got hurt. I'll handle it."
"But --"
"My apologies everyone! I truly meant no harm --"
"The captain's right, Sallow. Who knows if those Ravenclaws are using this nerd over here to spy on us --"
"I said back off, Thorncrest," Sebastian turned his back on Amitt to face all of his teammates, daring any of them to take another step. "The next time you ignore my orders, I'll stop using words since they can't seem to penetrate through your skull. So you either learn to play nice or I won't let it pass that it was because of your subpar performance that a bludger almost hit my friend."
Sebastian and the other Slytherin student glared at each other until Imelda smacked Thorncrest's head, cutting through the tension. "Listen to your Vice-Captain," he turns to Sebastian with a nod. "I'll take care of him, you get Thakkar out of here."
Sebastian nodded back at Imelda, ensuring everyone was back in the skies before turning to a guilty-looking Amitt.
"I'm sorry, Sebastian. I did not think I would cause such a disturbance."
Sebastian just waved him off with a friendly chuckle and a comforting hand on his shoulder. Amitt can't believe his fellow Ravenclaws don't believe him when he tells them Sebastian is a warm person, laughing to his face was just quite rude. To be fair, they could barely believe they were friends at all. "Don't worry about it, athletes are assholes during Quidditch season."
He looked sheepish, "Can I still go up the bleachers?"
Despite his subdued character, Sebastian can see that Amitt has all the determination in the world when it comes to achieving the things that interest him the most. Maybe that's why he liked the Ravenclaw boy so much. "Yeah, go ahead, Amitt. Just don't let any prefect see you."
"Ah! Thank you, my friend! I shall be as quiet as a mouse!"
Sebastian waved as Amitt haphazardly said his goodbyes.
"If anybody bothers you tell them to talk to me!"
He takes care of Ominis
Despite his great interest in the dark arts and his pure-blooded status, Sebastian will take any and every opportunity to fight Ominis' family. He hates them simply because they hurt his friend, which is unforgivable in his eyes. He had every opportunity to get in their good graces but he blew all of that to pieces when he got in a crude fight with the eldest son of the Gaunts the moment he called Ominis a 'useless cripple'.
From then on, Sebastian has been banned from the Gaunt's estate indefinitely.
"Yeah, they better fucking ban me or I'll burn that haunted house to the ground and lock that prick inside of it."
Despite himself and his pacifistic tendencies, Ominis couldn't but scoff out a laugh while Sebastian nursed a bloody lip, glaring at the gates of the manor as it closed on them. "You didn't need to do that."
"I don't think I did enough," he sneers, blood boiling at the fact that Ominis seemed used to their cruel words. Not wanting to fester on their cruel treatment, he throws his hands across Ominis' shoulders. "Who the hell wants to spend Christmas there anyway? Feldcroft is way more cozy."
Ominis smiled, patting Sebastian's back, the closest 'thank you' he could show now that he knew he had found a true friend. "You're right," He thinks of Anne, Solomon's bland stew, and the blinking lights of the Sallow home.
"Are you alright?" And Sebastian -- kind, true, painfully loyal. His first friend.
Ominis nods.
"Let's go home."
He takes care of his family.
Even though Anne no longer communicates with him after 'the incident' Sebastian still religiously sends letters to Beauxbatons Academy along with whatever trinkets he finds that remind him of her. And even though he detested Solomon and barely felt bad about his death, he still made a point to clean his grave, knowing the old man didn't like it when things were messy, and even emptied his favorite whiskey on his birthday.
"Seb?"
He blinks as you slip your hands into his. He squeezes it, letting the heat on your skin ground him as the two of you stare at the gravestone. Just as remorseful guilt creeps into your heart, he cuts it off. "I don't regret it, you know," he mutters firmly. "He almost ... he was hurting Anne. He was going to hurt you."
You nod, leaning your forehead on his shoulders, trying to comfort him through his quiet struggles knowing words or pieces of advice won't help.
"But I know he did his best. It wasn't enough but it was his best," he empties the other half of the whiskey on the grave, and his grip on you tightens. "I owe him this much."
He takes care of you.
"Avada Kedavra!"
Sebastian flinches awake at the recent memory, his breath shaky as he looks around the dim light of the Room of Requirement.
He did what he had to do, he knows this. Solomon has been eaten up by his own anger, if he didn't stop him ... Merlin knows what would've happened.
If the three of you had gotten out of that fight alive, with your participation in his insipid plans, it wasn't unlikely that Solomon would ship you off to Azkaban with him. That can't happen, he dragged you into that hellhole, he had to get you out of there unscathed.
No matter how high the cost.
"S-Sebastian?"
He sits up from the couch, surprised to see you awake on the open door that leads to your personalized bedroom. The two of you had holed up in your safe haven after the events of the night but it would seem rest evaded the two of you.
"I can't ..." you sigh shakily, biting your lips. "I can't sleep. I'm scared."
As if your fear had overpowered his own, he swiftly set aside the last traces of his fear and guilt, extending his hands, which you eagerly took. Sebastian pulls you in his lap, preceding any thought of impropriety as he curls himself around you, letting you bury your face in the crook of his neck while he covers the two of you in your blanket.
"It's all going to be all right," he promises, pressing his lips on the crown of your hair. "I won't let anything happen to you."
And takes care of you.
"Hey, Sebastian is waiting for you in the common room."
"Sallow said he'll pick you up after class."
"She's not coming, Sebastian's got her."
"Your hound is here."
You turned with a frown from Imelda to what she was staring at with a mischievous grin and by the door stood Sebastian, smiling when your eyes met.
"I --"
"-- have to go," Imelda playfully rolled her eyes. You gave her a smile as you gathered your books.
"Same time next week?"
"Maybe let's hide somewhere your hound can't sniff you up?"
"Get your own witch, Reyes," a deep voice from behind proved her point. Sebastian grabbed your book and satchel from your hands, hooking it on one arm, and the other gently offered his free hand to yours. "This one's mine."
And wants to take care of you forever.
"You should marry me."
Your next step faltered as you turned to Sebastian on the shore of the Black Lake, the setting sun illuminating his face and the vulnerability and determination written across it.
"W-What?"
"I've thought about it," he swallows, walking closer until he is right in front of you, the cold shallow water above your ankles a welcome reprieve from your burning body at such an announcement. "I've thought about letting you go, letting you find someone better than me. "
"Sebastian --"
"But I figured that I'm a selfish man. I always have been. And I want you more than anything else," you shudder at his fervor. "I love you more than anything else in this world."
Gently, as he always does, he took your hand, placing it on his warm cheek. "I can't offer much, I know, but I ... I will make you the sun my world will revolve on."
He presses a kiss at your palm, a warm tear falls from your eyes.
"Marry me," he begs. "Let me be the one to make you happy."

A Little More Yours: L.F Lee Felix x fem!reader (College AU)
WC: 11.1K
CW: Menace Minho, Simp Felix, Mentions of blood & a head injury, reader is a menace to chan General Masterlist SKZ Masterlist Part II
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The library is quieter than usual for a Thursday afternoon, the thick layer of snow outside insulating the world with an almost eerie stillness. You sit hunched over one of the large wooden tables, textbooks, notebooks, and loose sheets of paper sprawled in front of you like a chaotic map of your current assignment. Your hair's piled up into a messy bun, pens precariously tucked into it to keep it in place because heaven knows you don't have time to find an actual hair tie.
The buzzing of your phone vibrates against the wood of the table, loud enough that a couple of nearby students glance over in mild annoyance. You glance at the screen and sigh when you see Chan flashing across it. Of course. You already know what this is about.
Swiping the screen, you hold the phone up to your ear, bracing for the chaos on the other end.
"Y/N!" Chan's voice is frantic, slightly breathless. "We need you."
You sit back in your chair, rubbing your temple. "What now? You sound like someone died."
"Jisung's dumb ass fell out of bed and cracked his head open on the corner of the bedside table."
A laugh escapes you before you can stop it. "He what?!"
Chan groans. "Yeah, I know. It's stupid. But he's bleeding everywhere, and I don't know how bad it is. Can you-"
"I'm on my way," you cut him off, already gathering your things. "Gimme ten minutes. I'm at the library."
"Good. Just hurry the fuck up." Chan's voice softens slightly before he hangs up. "Thanks, Y/N."
You sigh, pulling your scarf tighter around your neck and grabbing the pile of textbooks and notebooks. You didn't bring a backpack today, another brilliant decision on your part, so now you're balancing everything in your arms like the leaning tower of Pisa. You slip your earmuffs over your head, muttering under your breath, and push through the double doors of the library.
The blast of cold air hits you like a wall as soon as you step outside. Snowflakes swirl around you in the dim afternoon light, sticking to the exposed skin of your stomach and thighs. Because, of course, you decided today of all days was the perfect time to wear a crop top. A crop top with underboob no less. At least you had the decency to wear thigh-high boots and a scarf, but the outfit is not snowstorm-friendly.
The Alpha Phi frat house isn't too far from the library, but it feels like a goddamn trek in this weather. By the time you get there, your fingers are stiff from the cold, and the snow has started to soak through your skirt.
The front door swings open before you can even knock, and Chan stands there, eyes immediately narrowing as he takes in your appearance.
"Are you fucking kidding me?" he growls, yanking the stack of books out of your arms. "Why the fuck don't you have a coat? And why the fuck are you wearing a crop top that shows underboob in the middle of a goddamn snowstorm? Do you want to freeze your tits off, Y/N?"
You roll your eyes and adjust your scarf. "I didn't have a coat that went with my outfit, and this top is cute, okay?"
"You're stupid."
"Love you too," you shoot back, brushing past him into the warmth of the frat house. "Where's Jisung?"
Chan motions toward the living room, following close behind. "He's in there. Holding a blood-soaked towel to his head like an idiot."
You take a moment to kick off the snow from your boots before walking into the living room. Sure enough, Jisung is sprawled out on the couch, a towel pressed against the back of his head, his face scrunched up in discomfort.
"If I get blood on my clothes..." you warn, pulling your scarf and earmuffs off.
"I'll buy you new ones," Chan interrupts, already heading upstairs to grab the first aid kit you've stashed in his room for situations exactly like this.
"Appreciate it," you mutter, dropping to your knees next to Jisung. "Alright, Ji, let's see what we're dealing with."
Jisung whines dramatically as you carefully pull the towel away from his head, his eyes fluttering shut. "Fuck, this hurts. Why did I fall out of bed today?"
"Because you're a dumbass," you tease lightly, but there's genuine concern in your tone as you check the cut on the back of his head. You slip two fingers onto his wrist to check his pulse.
"How're you feeling?" you ask, watching him closely.
"Like I hit my fucking head on the corner of a table," he grumbles. His pulse is steady, which is a good sign.
"Any dizziness? Nausea?"
He scrunches up his face. "A little dizzy, but I think it's mostly because I'm terrified of bleeding out on the couch."
Before you can respond, Chan rushes back into the room with the first aid kit. He sets it down beside you and crosses his arms, watching intently.
You slip on a pair of gloves and examine the cut on Jisung's head. It's not too deep, but the blood has definitely freaked him out. "The cut's less than the width of my thumb," you tell Chan without looking up. "It's not as bad as it looks."
Chan, ever the worried mom of the group, frowns. "But there's so much blood."
You glance up at him, offering a small smile. "Head injuries bleed a lot. Trust me, this isn't anything serious." You hold a thick piece of gauze against Jisung's head to stem the bleeding, making sure to apply just the right amount of pressure.
Jisung groans, squirming under your hand. "How am I supposed to wash my hair with a fucking head wound?"
"You're not," you say simply. "Avoid washing it for a few days. No shampoo near the cut. It'll hurt like hell. Wear a beanie or something."
Jisung gives a long, dramatic sigh, but he nods in agreement. "I guess I can pull off the beanie look."
From the kitchen, you hear hushed whispers. The rest of the Alpha Phi boys, Hyunjin, Minho, Jeongin, Changbin and Felix, are gathered there, hovering over the island, whispering amongst themselves.
"Just fucking talk to her," you hear Hyunjin whisper, though his attempt at being quiet isn't very successful.
"Yeah, bro," Changbin chimes in. "Ask her how her coursework is going or something. She's always talking about school, right?"
There's a low mumble, presumably from Felix, and then Minho's sharp voice cuts through the whispers.
"Will you stop being a freckly little bitch, Felix?! So what, she has boobs? Doesn't make her a fucking alien."
You stifle a laugh, pretending you haven't heard a word. It's no secret that Felix has had a crush on you for as long as you've known him. Every time you come over to patch someone up, he gets all quiet and blushy, his freckles standing out even more against his skin.
"Okay, Ji," you say, shifting your focus back to the task at hand. "Let's make sure you're not concussed."
You pull out your phone and shine a flashlight into his eyes, checking his pupillary response. "Any double vision? Feeling disoriented?"
He shakes his head, then winces. "Nah, nothing like that."
You ask him a series of questions, running through the standard concussion protocol. Jisung answers each one with his usual brand of sarcasm, but he's sharp, and you're pretty sure he's in the clear.
"Alright, you're good," you say, packing up the first aid kit. "No concussion, but take it easy for the next day or two. If you feel any weird symptoms, you better call me."
He nods, slouching back on the couch. "Thanks. You're a fucking lifesaver."
You stand up, stretching your legs, and glance over toward the kitchen where Felix is still standing awkwardly, clearly trying to work up the courage to say something. You offer him a smile, but he quickly averts his gaze, pretending to be deeply interested in the conversation between Hyunjin and Minho.
Before you can call him out on it, Jisung pipes up again. "Y/N, seriously though, how the fuck am I gonna survive not washing my hair? I can't go three days without washing it. My scalp will hate me."
You laugh, shaking your head. "You'll survive. Just invest in some dry shampoo, and you'll be fine. Plus, you'll be wearing beanies, remember? No one will even notice."
Jisung grumbles something under his breath, clearly not satisfied with your answer, but you don't miss the small smirk tugging at the corner of his lips.
You let out a deep sigh, standing up from your spot beside Jisung and stretching your stiff limbs. The boys continue their quiet conversation in the kitchen, and you catch bits of it while you clean up the leftover gauze and medical supplies. You're packing up the first aid kit when Chan strides back into the living room, a serious look plastered on his face.
"Hey, you checked the weather yet?" he asks, pulling out his phone and waving it in the air as if the mere sight of it will clue you into what's happening.
"Nope, too busy saving Jisung's life," you reply with a smirk, casting a glance at your friend who's dramatically flopped across the couch, still nursing the back of his head.
Chan rolls his eyes, not in the mood for jokes. "Well, you might wanna brace yourself 'cause they just issued a weather alert for an incoming blizzard."
You pause for a moment, your brain catching up with the weight of his words. "A blizzard? Like snow, snow?"
"Yeah, no shit, snow," Chan huffs. "They're saying it's going to hit hard, and we'll be snowed in for at least four days."
You blink at him, processing his words before the reality of it sinks in. "You're telling me I'm snowed in here? For four days?"
"Looks like it," he says with a shrug. "And it's already picking up, so I'd say it's a safe bet you're not going anywhere anytime soon."
You groan loudly, throwing your hands up in the air. "What the fuck am I going to do about clothes? I didn't exactly pack for a four-day fucking stay!"
Chan raises an eyebrow, a teasing grin spreading across his face. "You're seriously asking me that? You literally have two drawers full of your fucking clothes in my room that didn't fit into your dorm when you moved in."
Your arms drop to your sides as the realization hits you. "Oh... yeah. I do, don't I?"
Chan nods, crossing his arms in satisfaction. "Not to mention the fact that you also have a whole-ass bag of makeup here for whenever you crash after parties."
You roll your eyes. "Okay, but you don't have a decent mirror! Your mirror's disgusting. It's covered in some kind of bodily fluid that I do not want to identify."
"Hey, fuck off!" Chan protests, a hand flying to his chest in mock offence. "That mirror's seen some shit."
"Exactly!" you exclaim, your nose wrinkling in disgust.
From the kitchen, you hear snickers as Changbin and Jeongin exchange a glance. They nudge Felix, who's still standing awkwardly at the edge of the group, shifting his weight from one foot to the other like he's debating whether or not to join in the conversation. You catch the way they nudge him, and the murmur of voices from the kitchen reaches your ears.
"Tell her she can use your mirror," Jeongin whispers, elbowing Felix in the ribs.
Minho, leaning casually against the fridge, rolls his eyes at the whole situation. "Jesus Christ, just get a fucking grip and talk to her," he mutters before shoving Felix roughly toward the living room.
Felix stumbles forward, his face a bit flushed from the push, but he catches himself and straightens up. "Uh, Y/N," he says, trying to play it cool, "you can use my mirror. It's definitely clean."
There's a pause as you turn to face Felix, surprised but pleasantly amused by his offer. "Well, at least one of you has decent hygiene," you say, giving him a playful grin.
Felix's face lights up with a wide smile, his freckles standing out against his skin as he glances back toward the kitchen. The guys are all watching him with varying degrees of anticipation. Hyunjin is giving him two enthusiastic thumbs up, while Changbin is nodding like a proud parent.
But it's Minho, of course, who takes things too far. He catches Felix's eye, forms a V with his fingers in front of his face, and flicks his tongue between them, grinning like a devil.
Felix's eyes widen, and without missing a beat, he slams the door between the living room and the kitchen before you can turn around and see what's going on.
You laugh, completely oblivious to Minho's antics, and Felix lets out a relieved breath, his ears turning a little pink. "You okay, Lix? You look like you're gonna pass out," you tease.
"I'm good," he mumbles, running a hand through his hair. "Just, you know, cold."
"Sure," you chuckle, glancing toward the door he just slammed shut. "Anyway, thanks for the mirror offer. I might take you up on that."
Felix gives a small nod, his nerves quickly melting away now that he's actually talking to you. "Yeah, anytime. Would you like a blanket? You look cold"
You smile. "Yeah, that'd be great. Thanks."
Felix nods and quickly disappears toward the hallway, while you head into the kitchen to make yourself some tea. As you fill the kettle, you hear the low murmur of voices behind you. Minho is standing by the counter, smirking in your direction.
"Y/N, my darling," Minho starts, his tone dripping with mischief, "I told Felix that he needs to take you to his room and just go primal, you know? Eat you like a man starved. Just—"
Minho makes a wildly inappropriate gesture with his hands, mimicking a ravenous eating motion that has you snorting in spite of yourself. You shake your head, turning to face him fully.
"You're fucking ridiculous, Minho."
"You're welcome," he says, flashing you a toothy grin.
"You certainly have a way with words," you deadpan, turning back to pour hot water into your mug.
Minho's grin widens. "Thank you very much. I do try."
Before you can respond, Felix returns with a blanket, stepping into the kitchen just as Minho's eyes flick back to you. "You know, this horribly traumatizing weather is being made much better by the underboob from that crop top, Y/N," Minho announces with a wink.
Felix smacks him upside the head. "Dude, seriously?"
Minho yelps, rubbing the back of his head but looking entirely unrepentant. "I'm serious! Look!" He gestures toward you dramatically. "So much underboob!"
You roll your eyes, but you can't help laughing. "Minho, you should have been a poet."
He smirks. "I can't do that to the world. I'm already too talented."
Felix hands you the blanket, his cheeks tinged pink as he avoids Minho's gaze. "Here. Sorry about Minho."
You take the blanket gratefully, wrapping it around your shoulders. "Don't worry about it, Lix. I'm used to it by now."
You sip your tea, savouring the warmth as it spreads through your chest, but the moment of peace is short-lived. Chan bursts into the kitchen, tossing a hoodie at your head with no warning.
"Cover up before Minho busts in his pants," he says, deadpan.
The hoodie smacks you right in the face, causing you to drop your mug, which shatters against the kitchen floor. You stare at the broken pieces in disbelief before you huff, crouching down to pick up the shards of ceramic. "That's not very feminist of you, Chan. I'm at fault for Minho being a pervert?"
Jeongin, who had been standing quietly by the door, perks up. "Wow, Chan. Is that how it is in this frat house now?"
Chan throws his hands up in exasperation. "Well, excuse me for trying to help."
Minho, meanwhile, is watching the whole exchange with a lazy grin. "Honestly, I'd hit on Y/N even if she was wearing a fucking habit."
You roll your eyes, muttering under your breath as you gather the broken pieces of your mug. "Of course you would."
Chan watches you for a moment, his brow furrowing in concern. "Are you seriously picking up shards of a mug with your bare hands? You're a paramedic student, for fuck's sake. You should know better."
You shoot him an exasperated look. "Do you want me to stop patching you and your pack of stupid hyenas up? Because if I don't pick it up, I know I'll be pulling pieces out of one of their feet. Probably Minho's."
Minho's voice cuts through the chaos of the kitchen, clearly not bothered by the fact that you're on your hands and knees picking up broken shards of ceramic. "You know, I just mopped those fucking floors earlier. And now there's tea all over them. Burn the witch, I say!" He points dramatically at you like you've just committed a grave sin.
You pause for a second, shaking your head at his ridiculousness. "Fuck off, Minho," you mutter, standing up with a handful of shards and tossing them into the trash.
Chan steps forward, holding out a mop in your direction with a smirk plastered on his face. "Here. You broke the mug, might as well clean it up."
You look at the mop, then back at Chan, crossing your arms defiantly. "I think the fuck not. You're not about to reinforce some gender stereotype where women clean up messes that are men's fault. You threw the hoodie. You started the chain of causation. Therefore, it's your mess."
Chan blinks, his mouth opening as if he's about to argue, but then he shuts it again, looking between you and the mop. "You're really pulling that card?"
"Damn right, I am," you shoot back, raising an eyebrow. "Now get to mopping before I call your mother."
Chan freezes, eyes wide as if you just threatened to expose his deepest, darkest secret. He glances toward Minho and Felix for backup, but both of them shrug. Minho's shit-eating grin returns as he leans against the counter.
"Best get to mopping, mate," Minho says with a smug chuckle. "You really wanna go up against her when she's got Jess on speed dial?"
Chan's shoulders sag in defeat. "You wouldn't."
You pull out your phone, scrolling to the contact labelled Jess, and hold it up for him to see. "Oh, but I would. And I'm supposed to call her at some point this week anyway. She wants to catch up. So, I could just tell her right now how her sweet baby boy is being a little bitch and trying to make me clean up his mess."
"You're fucking evil," Chan mutters under his breath, but you can tell he's losing this fight by the way his hand tightens around the mop handle.
"No," you say, a grin tugging at your lips, "you're just mad because you know she'll give you a beatdown."
Chan narrows his eyes at you, clearly debating whether to call your bluff. "Go ahead. Call her. Because I am not fucking mopping this floor."
You shrug, dialling Jess's number and hopping up onto the counter, swinging your legs playfully. "Okay, sure. I'll call her. Watch me."
As the phone rings, Chan's eyes widen, and he curses under his breath, but he doesn't move to take the mop just yet. The others in the kitchen are watching the standoff like it's some kind of high-stakes poker game. Felix looks a bit nervous, while Minho's grin is spreading wider, enjoying every second of the showdown.
Finally, the call connects, and you hear Jess's familiar, warm voice on the other end. "Y/N! Sweetheart! Oh, it's so good to hear from you! I've been meaning to call you this week. How are you, love?"
You grin, throwing a playful glance at Chan, who has frozen in place, still holding the mop but clearly debating his next move. Minho's shit-eating grin grows wider, watching the scene unfold like his favourite TV show. "Hi, Jess! I missed you too. Yeah, I'm doing great! Just calling to catch up and, well, talk about Chan."
At the mention of his name, Chan's eyes widen. He takes one look at the mop, then at you, and curses under his breath. He drops the mop to the floor with a loud slap and starts mopping furiously. The sound of the mop swishing back and forth fills the room, along with the snickers of the rest of the boys who are watching Chan's dignity slowly wither away.
"Fuck you," Chan mutters, glaring up at you.
You stick your tongue out at him in response, still smiling sweetly as you talk into the phone. "Yeah, Jess, I've been a little worried about him lately"
Chan freezes again, his back stiffening as he pauses mid-mop. "Y/N," he warns, his voice dangerously low.
"Yeah, so," you continue, ignoring Chan's murderous glare, "he's been saying he misses home a lot recently. You know, really homesick. But that's not the only thing. There's also been... uhm... well, some bed-wetting incidents."
Chan's eyes go so wide you're worried they might actually fall out of the sockets. He drops the mop, standing upright in shock. "What the actual fuck are you saying right now?!"
You shoot him a smug look, holding up a finger to silence him. "Yeah, Jess, it's true. I've been worried because it's been happening more frequently, and, well, I think it might be a medical issue. I mean, the bed is soaked. Every time. Like, drenched. It's honestly concerning."
From behind you, Felix chokes on his tea, coughing loudly as he desperately tries to contain his laughter. Jeongin, who's been leaning casually against the counter, has his hands over his mouth, shaking with silent laughter. Hyunjin has literally fallen to the floor, clutching his stomach as he wheezes.
Chan is staring at you, absolutely flabbergasted. "You're fucking lying. Oh my god, what the fuck?!"
You smirk, enjoying every second of this. "Jess, I'm really worried it might be his bladder, you know? I mean, there's so much, and it just keeps happening. Minho and I had to take him shopping for adult diapers the other day, didn't we, Minho?"
Minho, ever the drama king, doesn't miss a beat. He throws his hands up in exaggerated agreement. "Oh yeah, we sure did. Got him a whole box of those super absorbent ones! And don't even get me started on the baby powder. Had to buy a shit-ton of it to prevent any chafing. You know how it is."
"You both are dead!" Chan hisses, his face a bright shade of crimson. He's practically foaming at the mouth now, but he keeps mopping, knowing that if he stops, you'll only keep this going.
There's a brief silence on the other end of the line as Jess processes everything you've just said. You can practically hear the cogs turning in her head. "Oh... oh dear," she finally says, her voice tinged with concern. "That does sound serious. I'll have to talk to him about it. Poor Channie. He must be so embarrassed."
"Y/N!" Chan hisses, storming over to you, looking like he's two seconds away from strangling you.
You hold up the phone, still grinning like the Cheshire Cat. "Don't tell Chan I told you, okay? He's really sensitive about it. I just thought, you know, as his mom, you should know what's going on."
Jess sighs on the other end. "Of course, sweetheart. I won't say a word. Thank you for looking out for him, Y/N. You're such a good friend."
"Anytime, Jess," you say sweetly, shooting Chan a wink. "I'll talk to you soon!"
You hang up the call before Chan can grab the phone out of your hand. As soon as you do, the kitchen erupts into chaos. Felix is on the floor now, joining Hyunjin in hysterics. Jeongin is gasping for air, clutching his sides, while Changbin is bent over the counter, wheezing with laughter. Even Seungmin, who's usually the calm and collected one, has a hand over his mouth, shaking his head in disbelief.
Chan, however, is not laughing. He glares at you, his jaw clenched so tight you're surprised his teeth haven't shattered. "You... fucking... bitch."
You hop down from the counter, a wide grin plastered on your face. "Look, Captain Pissy Pants," you start, placing a hand on your hip, "if you had just mopped the floor like I asked without trying to pull some macho bullshit, your mom wouldn't think you piss the bed and wear adult diapers. But noooo, you had to go and be difficult."
Chan lets out a frustrated growl, tossing the mop aside. "You're dead. You're fucking dead. Do you realize what you've done? My mom is going to be on my ass about this for weeks!"
You shrug nonchalantly, enjoying the sight of him unravelling. "Well, maybe next time you'll think twice before throwing a hoodie at my head and breaking my mug."
He groans, dragging a hand down his face. "You didn't have to fucking call her, though! Jesus Christ, what am I supposed to tell her now?"
Minho chimes in with a smirk. "Tell her the truth. You piss the bed. Simple as that."
Chan shoots him a glare so deadly it could probably kill a lesser man. "Shut the fuck up, Minho."
Minho holds his hands up in surrender, but the grin never leaves his face. "Just saying, man. The evidence is stacking up against you."
The moment Chan starts launching into an all out rant, you just stand there, entirely unbothered, sipping the fresh cup of tea that Felix had quietly handed you. His hands were shaking a little when he gave it to you, but you'd offered him a warm smile as thanks, and now he's leaning against the counter, sneaking glances at you every few seconds. You know he's waiting for you to react to Chan, but you're in no rush.
Chan, on the other hand, is still losing his mind. He's pacing back and forth, hair dishevelled, gesturing wildly as he rants about what an asshole you are for calling his mom and how she's going to nag him for the rest of his life now.
"Do you even understand what you've fucking done? You've literally ruined me! She's gonna fucking talk about diapers at every family dinner now! I'll never hear the end of this shit!"
You take a long, slow sip of your tea, savouring the warmth that spreads through your chest while Chan continues his tirade.
"You think this is funny, don't you?!" he snaps, pointing an accusatory finger at you. "You're just sitting there with your smug little grin like you didn't just call my mom and tell her I piss the bed! Do you have any fucking idea what kind of trauma you've unleashed on me?"
"Chan," you say, setting your tea down and giving him a pointed look, "I didn't say you piss the bed. I said you had an issue. That's not the same thing."
"Bullshit!" he yells, throwing his hands up. "My mom's gonna think I'm wearing fucking diapers at night now! She'll probably mail me some with cute little ducks on them or some shit. Jesus fucking Christ!"
You raise an eyebrow, remaining entirely composed. "Honestly, if you keep yelling, your bladder control might become a real issue."
"I'm not fucking kidding," he growls, taking a step closer, but before he can continue, you suddenly burst into tears.
It's so sudden, so out of nowhere, that it stops Chan dead in his tracks. His eyes widen, and the room falls into an awkward silence. All the other boys, who had been silently watching the whole thing, freeze too. You're putting on a dramatic show.
Your hands cover your face as you sob, and your shoulders shake with fake cries. Inside, you're fighting hard not to laugh at how quickly everyone's demeanour has changed.
Chan immediately panics. "Oh fuck, shit, no, don't cry!" He drops the mop and rushes toward you, pulling you into a tight hug. His large hands pat your back awkwardly as he rocks you side to side, clearly unsure of what to do. "Fuck, I'm sorry, okay? I didn't mean to make you upset, please stop crying."
Hyunjin jumps in with his usual dramatic flair, pointing at Chan like he's just committed murder. "Are you proud of yourself, Chan? You made her cry! You fucking monster!"
"I didn't—" Chan stammers, looking around helplessly. "I wasn't trying to- Please stop crying. Fuck, I'm sorry, I'll do anything you want, just stop crying. Please?"
You sniffle dramatically, still fake-sobbing into his chest, and Chan's grip tightens around you. "Please, Y/N, I didn't mean it. I'll do anything."
You pull back slightly, wiping at your face with the back of your hand as if drying tears. "Anything?"
"Yes! Anything!" Chan promises, his face full of concern.
You straighten up, wiping away the nonexistent tears and looking him dead in the eyes. "Mop the fucking floor properly, then. You did a terrible job. Jesus, Chan, did Jessica leave you to be raised by wolves? There's still tea all over the floor! I understand this is a frat house, but have some fucking standards. Are you blind or just incompetent?"
Chan's jaw drops. His brain is clearly trying to catch up to what just happened. "I—What? What the fuck is going on?"
"I'll tell you what the fuck is going on. You need to learn how to mop a fucking floor. Jesus Christ, Chan. Is basic cleanliness too much for you? Just because this is a frat house doesn't mean you should live in a pigsty."
For a moment, Chan just stands there, blinking at you in disbelief, the gears in his brain visibly turning as he tries to process the fact that you were faking your crying the whole time. "You fucking asshole," he finally mutters, his voice low with frustration. "I fucking hate you."
You grin, crossing your arms. "I will tell your mother about the crusty wank socks under your bed, so watch how you speak to me."
Chan's face turns an even deeper shade of red. "I'm going to—"
You raise an eyebrow, cutting him off. "What? What are you gonna do? Can't call my parents. Safe haven baby right here, remember? Who you gonna call?"
From the couch in the living room, Jisung, who's been watching the entire interaction with wide eyes, suddenly shouts, "Ghostbusters!"
You whip around to glare at him, your hands on your hips. "Jisung, you bitch, I don't even know if my parents are dead! What a rude assumption to make!"
Jisung, never one to back down, sits up with a shrug. "But the Ghostbusters could, like, look for the ghosts of your parents, you know? They could track them down or something."
Minho, leaning casually against the counter, smirks and shakes his head. "How are they gonna do that, dumbass? Y/N doesn't even know who her parents are. It's not like she has a fucking address to give them."
Jisung pauses, clearly considering this, then shrugs again. "I mean, they're Ghostbusters. They could just, like, look. Isn't that their whole thing? Finding ghosts?"
Hyunjin, who's been watching all this from the sidelines, finally speaks up. "I think the real problem here is that Chan can't mop a fucking floor. I mean, how are you a frat leader and can't even clean up after yourself? I'm starting to question your leadership skills, Captain."
"I'm a fucking football captain, not a janitor!" Chan barks back, still flustered from the earlier events.
"Clearly," you mutter, your gaze still locked on the mess on the floor.
The wind howls outside, rattling the windows of the Alpha Phi frat house as the blizzard continues to gain strength. Snow swirls in furious gusts, piling up against the windowsills and creating an almost surreal, wintry landscape.
You stare out the window, eyes narrowed as the snow piles up higher and higher, the reality of the situation sinking in. You're trapped. With them. For four whole days.
"Fuck me," you mutter under your breath, crossing your arms as you turn away from the window. "I can't believe I'm stuck with you lot for four days. This is some next-level fucking bullshit."
"Y/N, your eyeliner is fucking smudged," Hyunjin points out, breaking you out of your thoughts. His lips curl into a mischievous grin, clearly amused by your earlier fake crying stunt. "All that fake crying messed you up. Looks like you had a meltdown."
You groan, immediately raising a hand to your eye to swipe at the smudged makeup. "Great. Just what I need. Fucking eyeliner all over my face now."
Hyunjin chuckles, leaning back against the counter, watching you struggle to fix the mess. "Don't worry, you still look hot. Maybe even hotter with the messy eyeliner. Adds to the 'just survived a traumatic event' look."
You shoot him a look, not in the mood to play along with his teasing. "I'm sure that's exactly the aesthetic I was going for. Fucking great."
He laughs again, shrugging like he doesn't have a care in the world. "I'm just saying, it works for you."
Rolling your eyes, you glance over at Felix, who's standing near the doorway with his hands shoved into his pockets, looking like he's been waiting for a moment to jump in. You remember his earlier offer and decide to take him up on it.
"Felix," you call, catching his attention, "can I use your mirror now if that's still alright? I need to fix my eyeliner, and you offered earlier."
Felix's face brightens at the sound of your voice, his freckles standing out against the pink flush spreading across his cheeks. He nods quickly, pushing off the wall. "Y-yeah, of course. Come on, I'll show you to my room."
You grab the blanket still wrapped around your shoulders and toss it onto the nearest chair before following Felix. As you walk past Hyunjin and the rest of the guys in the kitchen, you catch Minho grinning like a devil, but you don't pay it any mind.
What you don't see, though, is Minho's next move. The moment your back is turned, he starts thrusting into the air like an idiot, mimicking some obscene, exaggerated movements that make the guys lose their shit in laughter.
Felix glances over his shoulder and catches Minho in the act. His eyes narrow into a deadly glare, but he says nothing, just quickens his pace, eager to get you upstairs before you can turn around and witness the chaos.
The stairs creak slightly as you both make your way up to the second floor. The walls are lined with old pictures of previous frat members, random sports memorabilia, and a framed, oversized Alpha Phi logo that looks like it's been signed by every member since the dawn of time.
You can hear the muffled sounds of video games from behind one of the doors, and for a moment, it's almost peaceful. Well, as peaceful as a frat house during a blizzard can get.
Felix stops in front of a door near the end of the hall and opens it, stepping aside to let you in first. "Here it is. Sorry if it's a little messy."
You step into Felix's room and immediately notice the massive gaming setup taking up one corner. Three large monitors glow softly, showing various tabs and games left open, along with a scattered array of controllers, cables, and snacks.
It's clear this is where he spends a lot of his time. The room smells faintly of vanilla, mixed with something warm and inviting like cookies just out of the oven. It's very Felix.
As you take in your surroundings, your eyes land on a bookshelf against the far wall. It's packed full of books, some old, some new, all lined up neatly in a way that surprises you given the clutter everywhere else. You can't help but wander over, trailing your fingers along the spines as you read the titles.
Your hand pauses on one in particular. "The Mortal Instruments?" you ask, glancing back at Felix with raised eyebrows. "You're into these?"
Felix's face lights up as he nods, a shy smile tugging at his lips. "Yeah. I've been a fan for a while now. The books are way better than the Netflix series though, right?"
You laugh, nodding in agreement as you turn back to the shelf. "Oh my god, yes! The series was okay if you've never read the books, but it just didn't hit the same. They cut out so much, and the characters were off."
Felix steps closer, his excitement palpable. "That's what I've been telling Hyunjin for ages! But he's all like, 'Nooo, Magnus and Alec are hotter on screen than in the books.'" He mimics Hyunjin's whiny tone perfectly, and you laugh again, shaking your head.
"Don't get me wrong, Magnus and Alec are great on screen," you say, "but the books just hit differently. I'm more of a Jace girl myself."
Felix's eyes widen slightly, his smile growing even bigger. "Jace? Really?"
You shrug, turning to face him fully. "Yeah, I like the complicated, brooding types who secretly have a heart of gold. Plus, he's kind of a dumbass sometimes, and I find that endearing."
Felix chuckles softly, nodding. "Yeah, I can see that."
Your fingers trail along the other books on the shelf, stopping on a small, well-worn copy of Romeo and Juliet. You pull it out, glancing at the cover before looking back at Felix. "Romeo and Juliet? A classic."
Felix rubs the back of his neck, looking a little sheepish. "Yeah, I know it's kind of cliche, but I've always liked it. It's tragic, but in a way that makes you think about love and sacrifice."
You smile, flipping through the pages absentmindedly. "I visited Verona with Chan last summer, you know. We went to Juliet's wall."
Felix's eyes light up with curiosity. "Really? How was it?"
You close the book, your fingers lingering on the worn cover. "Honestly, it wasn't as romantic as it sounds when you're there with your best friend who once had to help you when you bled through your trousers at school."
Felix lets out a surprised laugh, his eyes crinkling at the corners as he grins at you. "Wow, okay, yeah, I can see how that would kill the mood."
You smirk, placing the book back on the shelf. "But the wall itself was incredible. People from all over the world write letters to Juliet and leave them there, asking for advice or just pouring their hearts out. There's even a group of people who respond to the letters."
Felix's brows furrow in interest. "Wait, seriously? That's amazing."
"Yeah," you nod, turning to face him again. "If this paramedic stuff doesn't work out, I might just move to Verona and join the group that writes back. Imagine that. People turning to one of the most tragic romantic figures in history for help because her love was that powerful. It's kind of poetic, don't you think?"
Felix stares at you for a moment, his expression softening. There's something about the way you speak, so genuine, so full of passion, that makes his heart do a little flip in his chest. He nods slowly, almost mesmerized by you. "Yeah, it is. Really poetic."
You catch the look in his eyes, and for a brief moment, something flickers between you. The air feels a little heavier, charged with something unspoken but undeniable.
Before the moment can stretch too long, you clear your throat and break eye contact, glancing toward the small mirror on his dresser. "Right, I should probably fix my eyeliner before I look like I just escaped from an emo band's comeback tour."
Felix laughs softly, stepping back to give you space. "Yeah, uh, the mirror's all yours. Sorry, I kind of got distracted."
You rummage through your skirt pocket and pull out black liquid eyeliner, the small pen-like tool ready to fix the mess your face has become. You settle in front of Felix's mirror, leaning closer to get a good angle, balancing your weight on one foot while raising your arm to fix the smudged lines around your eyes. You work carefully, adjusting the angle of the eyeliner tip, your reflection staring back at you with determined focus.
Felix stands just behind you, leaning awkwardly against the wall with his hands shoved deep into his hoodie pockets. His eyes, though, aren't on your face or the delicate process of you fixing your makeup. They're stuck somewhere lower.
Your skirt has ridden up slightly, just a few inches too high from where it was earlier. The edge of your green and black tartan mini skirt has crept up your thighs, high enough that the lacy trim of your underwear is just barely visible. You're completely oblivious to it, of course, too focused on getting your eyeliner back in check, but Felix? He's frozen in place, trying not to stare, failing miserably.
"Fuck," he mutters under his breath, barely audible. His face heats up, turning a shade of red that could rival a tomato, but he can't tear his eyes away.
The thing is, you've always had this effect on him. Ever since you started coming over to the Alpha Phi frat house to patch up the guys after their dumbass stunts, Felix found himself hopelessly drawn to you. It wasn't just the way you looked. Though he'd be lying if he said he hadn't noticed.
It was the way you carried yourself, always upbeat, always kind. You weren't afraid to call them out on their bullshit, especially Chan, and that made Felix respect you even more. But this is something different entirely. He knows he shouldn't be looking. He knows it's wrong. But he's stuck.
You continue humming to yourself, the soft tune filling the silence in the room as you carefully reapply your eyeliner. The sound is gentle, almost soothing, and Felix tries to focus on it instead of the distracting sight of your skirt. You don't seem to notice how intensely he's watching you, too caught up in your task, your soft voice barely above a whisper.
"Stars shining bright above you," you murmur, the words of the song slipping from your lips effortlessly. "Night breezes seem to whisper 'I love you.'"
Felix blinks, finally snapping out of his trance, his curiosity piqued by the song. He tilts his head slightly, listening more closely. "What's that song?" he asks, his voice cutting through your humming.
You gasp, turning around so quickly that the eyeliner pen almost flies out of your hand. "You've never heard Dream a Little Dream of Me?" you exclaim, eyes wide in disbelief.
Felix shrugs, rubbing the back of his neck, looking almost sheepish. "I mean, I've probably heard it somewhere before, but I don't really recognize it. What's it from?"
You shake your head, a playful grin spreading across your face. "Felix, you sweet summer child," you say, placing the eyeliner down for a second to give him your full attention. "It's a classic. The kind of song you hear in old movies or when you're sitting in a cosy café with soft jazz playing in the background. It's dreamy, romantic, you know, that old-timey love song vibe."
Felix chuckles nervously, shifting his weight from foot to foot. "Well, I guess I've been missing out."
You lean back against the dresser, crossing your arms and tilting your head at him. "Missing out? You're a Culinary Arts major. You probably hear shit like this all the time in those fancy restaurants. You just don't know it because you're too focused on making the best dessert ever."
Felix laughs softly, his gaze flickering to the floor for a moment. "You might be right. I guess I should pay more attention."
"Damn right, you should," you tease, turning back to the mirror to finish up your eyeliner. You draw the final line, flicking the wing perfectly at the corner of your eye. "There. All fixed."
Felix's eyes dart to your reflection in the mirror, and for a brief second, he can't help but notice just how stunning you look—even with your messy hair held together by three pens. The underboob peeking out from your cropped black turtleneck and your thigh-high boots only add to the image that's been stuck in his head all night. He quickly averts his gaze again, trying to keep his cool.
"So, Dream a Little Dream of Me, huh?" he says, trying to steer the conversation away from his racing thoughts. "Is that one of your favourite songs?"
You nod, a smile playing on your lips as you cap the eyeliner and slip it back into your skirt pocket. "Yeah, it's up there. It's one of those songs that just makes you feel safe, you know? Like everything's gonna be alright, even when the world's falling apart."
"Yeah," he murmurs, nodding slowly. "I get that."
You glance at him through the mirror, catching the way his gaze softens as he looks at you. There's a moment of silence that stretches between you, comfortable but charged with something unspoken.
You break the silence first, turning to face him with a grin. "You know, Felix, I could teach you some classic songs. Expand your musical horizons a bit."
Felix chuckles, his face lighting up. "I'd like that. But only if you promise to teach me while I'm baking something. We can make it a whole 'baking with a soundtrack' kind of thing."
You laugh, the sound bright and genuine. "Deal. I'll make sure we're listening to the best oldies while you whip up something delicious."
There's a pause, and Felix's eyes meet yours again, this time with a bit more confidence. "You're really good at this, you know?"
"At what? Fixing my eyeliner?" you joke, raising an eyebrow.
Felix shakes his head, smiling. "No, I mean at being so you."
You blink, a little taken aback by the sincerity in his voice. "So me?"
"Yeah," he says, rubbing the back of his neck again, that nervous energy creeping back into his movements. "I mean, you're always so... you. Confident, funny, smart... I don't know how you do it."
You feel a warmth spread through your chest at his words, and for a moment, you're not sure how to respond. Felix, the quiet, sweet, freckle-faced guy who's always been a little too shy around you, is suddenly opening up in a way you didn't expect.
"Well, thanks, Lix," you say softly, offering him a warm smile. "But you're not so bad yourself. You've got this... quiet charm about you, you know? You don't need to be loud or obnoxious to get people's attention."
Felix's cheeks flush again, and he looks down at the floor, smiling to himself. "I guess."
You shake your head, stepping closer to him and nudging him lightly with your elbow. "Seriously. You've got a lot going for you. And don't let these idiots downstairs tell you otherwise."
Felix looks up at you, his eyes bright and filled with something you can't quite place. There's a beat of silence, and for a moment, it feels like the rest of the world has faded away, leaving just the two of you in this small room, the snowstorm outside a distant memory.
But then, as if on cue, the door to Felix's room bursts open, and in storms Chan, looking more frazzled than usual. "Y/N, we need you. Again."
You groan, throwing your head back in exasperation. "What now? Did Minho finally break something?"
Chan sighs, pinching the bridge of his nose as he leans against the doorframe. "Well, Minho kind of broke something," he says, dragging out the last two words.
You raise an eyebrow. "Kind of?"
"Yeah," Chan grumbles. "He poked at Jisung's head so now it's bleeding. Again."
You let out a long, frustrated sigh. "Are you fucking serious? Is Jisung just cursed to have a cracked skull for the rest of his life?"
Felix chuckles nervously from his spot near the bed, and Chan looks even more exasperated as he pushes off the doorframe. "Come on. I don't know how bad it is this time, but he's freaking out again, and Minho's not exactly helping."
"I swear to god, if he's haemorrhaging I will kill myself," you mutter as you make your way to the door.
The moment you're out of the room, Felix lets out a long breath he didn't even realize he was holding. He runs a hand through his hair, clearly trying to shake off whatever tension had built up in the room while you were there.
But Chan, perceptive as ever, catches on almost immediately. As soon as you're out of earshot, he turns back to Felix with a knowing smirk. "Why are you standing so stiffly, bro? What the fuck is wrong with you?"
Felix's eyes widen, and he shifts awkwardly, clearly trying to play it cool. "W-What do you mean? I'm fine."
"Bullshit," Chan says, crossing his arms and narrowing his eyes at his friend. "You've been acting weird ever since Y/N got here. I know you have a massive crush on her. You've had one for ages, man."
Felix's face turns bright red, and he stumbles over his words, trying to deny it. "I—no—I mean—okay, maybe, but—"
Before he can finish, the words just tumble out of his mouth in a rush. "I saw her underwear."
There's a brief pause as Chan processes what Felix just said. Then, as if on cue, a shit-eating grin spreads across Chan's face. "Wait, hold the fuck up. You saw her underwear and now you're blushing like a fucking schoolgirl?"
Felix groans, burying his face in his hands. "It's not like I did it on purpose! Her skirt just... I don't know, it rode up a little, and I wasn't trying to look, but I just—"
"Dude, you've hooked up with girls before," Chan interrupts, still grinning like a madman. "And I've heard what your exes have to say about you. They always go on and on about how you're, like, this dominant, take-charge guy in the bedroom. So what the fuck is different with Y/N?"
Felix sighs, clearly flustered by the conversation. "I don't fucking know, okay? It's just... different with her. I can't explain it."
Chan shakes his head, still chuckling under his breath. "Bro, you need to channel some of that dominant energy into approaching her, for fuck's sake. Stop overthinking every word and just act. You're always second-guessing yourself around her, and it's painful to watch."
Felix rubs the back of his neck, looking down at the floor. "Yeah, I know..."
"Look, she's not gonna bite your head off, okay?" Chan says, clapping a hand on Felix's shoulder. "You just need to be yourself. She already likes you, man. She keeps coming around, doesn't she? Just stop being such a pussy and talk to her like you would anyone else."
Felix frowns, clearly unsure. "I don't want to fuck things up."
Chan rolls his eyes. "You're not gonna fuck things up. Just relax, be yourself, and stop being a fucking weirdo about it."
Felix nods, though he still looks a bit uncertain. "Yeah, okay. Maybe I'll try."
"Good," Chan says, giving him a small shove toward the door. "Though now's probably not the time, considering she's dealing with Minho's dumbass again. But later. I'm holding you to this."
Felix lets out a nervous laugh but nods in agreement. "Yeah. Later."
Tumblr media
You kneel next to Jisung on the couch, the familiar ritual of pulling on latex gloves calming you slightly as you grab gauze and bandages from your well-worn first aid kit. Jisung leans back, pressing another towel to the back of his head, his lips forming a half-pout, half-grimace as he watches you move with practised precision.
"Alright, Sungie," you sigh, snapping the gloves in place with a resigned shake of your head. "What the fuck happened this time?"
Jisung winces dramatically, slumping further into the cushions, trying to gain some semblance of sympathy. "It's Minho's fault. I swear. He just... poked it."
You flick your gaze to where Minho stands, arms crossed and a self-satisfied smirk on his face. You're not surprised. It's always Minho or Hyunjin getting into shit, dragging Jisung along for the ride.
You narrow your eyes at him. "Minho, what the fuck were you thinking? He's already got a bandage on his head. You're supposed to leave it alone."
Minho shrugs like it's no big deal, giving you his signature grin. "I was just checking it! You know, like a concerned friend. I gave it a little poke to see if it was healing. Turns out it wasn't."
You press the gauze against the back of Jisung's head with enough force to make him hiss in discomfort. "Minho, you're not a doctor. Stop poking shit. I've already patched him up once today."
Jisung groans, leaning into your touch as if he's two seconds from making a dramatic plea for mercy. "I'm not gonna make it, Y/N. I can feel the life draining out of me."
You stifle a laugh, shaking your head. "You're not dying, Sungie. Stop being a baby."
He peeks at you through squinted eyes. "Where's Felix and Chan? I thought they were supposed to be here. I feel like I'm missing out on their comforting presence."
You roll your eyes. "They're probably still in Felix's room, avoiding this fucking circus." You finish taping up the new bandage, adjusting it slightly to make sure it's secure. "Not that I blame them."
As you finish, you grab your small flashlight from the first aid kit and click it on, leaning forward to shine it in Jisung's eyes. "Hold still. Just making sure you don't have a concussion."
He freezes immediately. "Wait, why? Do you think there's bleeding in my brain?!"
You chuckle softly. "Relax, Sungie. If you had a brain bleed, you wouldn't be sitting here whining. I'm just making sure you don't have a concussion."
He groans dramatically. "That's not exactly comforting, Y/N."
You ignore him, finishing your check. "You're fine. Just stay away from Minho and you'll live."
Without warning, Jisung wraps his arms around you, pulling you into a tight hug. "You're a lifesaver, Y/N. What would we do without you?"
You laugh, patting him on the back. "You'd probably be in the hospital more often."
Minho watches from the side, a dramatic pout forming on his lips. "Where's my hug, Y/N? I'm the one who made this exciting for you."
You shoot him a look, pulling away from Jisung and settling back on the couch. "I don't hug idiots who reopen their friend's head wounds. It's a moral stance of mine."
Minho smirks, clearly unbothered. "That's just cold, Y/N. After everything I've done for you."
You stretch your legs out, draping them across Jisung's lap. "Tell you what, Minho. I'll give you a hug if you go and make me a passionfruit martini."
His eyes light up instantly, a wide grin spreading across his face. "Deal. One passionfruit martini coming right up."
As Minho disappears into the kitchen, Jisung shifts under your legs, giving you a curious look. "As soon as that drink touches your lips, you're off duty, right?"
You nod, closing your eyes and leaning back into the couch. "Exactly. Once that martini's in my hand, I'm off the clock. No more first aid for the next twelve hours."
Jisung lets out a loud sigh. "But we're stuck in a blizzard. You know someone's going to do something dumb."
You crack one eye open, shooting him a pointed look. "Then my advice? All of you sit down and do not move for twelve hours."
He snorts, a lazy smile playing on his lips. "I'll try, but no promises."
A few minutes later, Minho returns, carefully balancing a martini glass filled with a vibrant orange liquid. He hands it to you with a smug grin, clearly proud of his creation. "Your passionfruit martini, m'lady."
You take a sip, the sweet and tart flavour mixing perfectly on your tongue. "Not bad, Minho. Maybe you're not entirely useless after all."
He grins, plopping down beside you on the couch. "So, cuddle time now?"
You laugh, shaking your head as you stand up, drink still in hand. "Sorry, Minho. No cuddle time. I'm heading back upstairs to talk with Felix about books."
Minho raises an eyebrow, smirking. "Felix, huh? What's going on with you two up there?"
You roll your eyes, walking toward the stairs. "Fuck off, Minho."
His laughter follows you as you climb the stairs, the sound echoing in the quiet house. You know he's not going to let it go, but right now, you couldn't care less. You've been looking forward to talking to Felix again. He's always so thoughtful, and you find his company calming in a way that none of the other guys manage.
Before heading to Felix's room, you make a quick detour to Chan's. Pushing open the door, you walk over to the drawers that you've basically claimed as your own. It started when Chan insisted you leave some clothes at the house to avoid carrying around a huge bag every time you came over to patch someone up. Now, the drawers are filled with your clothes. Enough for several days if you ever got snowed in.
You rummage through the pile of clothes until you find a white oversized cable-knit sweater. It's soft and cozy, hanging just above your knees when you pull it on. You grab a pair of black yoga shorts and slip them on underneath, completing the look with fluffy white socks.
Satisfied, you grab your martini from the dresser and head to Felix's room.
Tumblr media
When you reach his door, you knock lightly before pushing it open. Inside, Felix is pacing back and forth, looking lost in thought. Chan is lounging on Felix's bed, his phone in hand as he scrolls through something.
"Am I interrupting something?" you ask, stepping inside and closing the door behind you.
Felix stops pacing immediately, his face lighting up with a sheepish smile. "No, no. You're not interrupting."
Chan looks up from his phone, grinning lazily. "Oh hey. Were your ears burning?"
You raise an eyebrow, sipping your martini. "No. Should they have been?"
Felix shoots Chan a warning glare, his cheeks flushing slightly. "Ignore him. He doesn't know what he's talking about." He then turns to Chan, his voice slightly firmer, "Weren't you just leaving, Chan?"
Chan smirks, pushing himself up from the bed with a stretch. "Alright, alright. I'll leave you two alone" He winks at Felix, clearly enjoying the situation, before sauntering out of the room.
Once the door clicks shut, Felix sighs, running a hand through his hair. "Sorry about him. He's been teasing me all day."
You smile, sitting on the edge of his bed. "It's fine. I'm used to Chan's bullshit. What's got you pacing around like that?"
Felix shrugs, moving to sit next to you, his gaze focused on the floor. "I was just thinking about what we talked about earlier. You know, those classic love stories."
You tilt your head, intrigued. "Yeah? What about them?"
He fiddles with the edge of his shirt, not meeting your eyes. "I don't know. I guess I've been wondering if stuff like that happens in real life. The kind of love that feels epic."
Your heart skips a beat at his words, and you lean forward slightly, your martini forgotten for a moment. "Yeah, those stories always seem larger than life. But I think they exist in some form. Maybe not exactly like the books, but you know, love can still be intense and beautiful."
Felix looks up at you then, his eyes searching yours. There's a vulnerability in his gaze that you don't see often, and it makes your chest tighten. "Do you think it's something worth fighting for? Even if it's hard?"
Felix's question lingers in the air, heavy with a vulnerability that catches you off guard. His gaze, for once, holds steady on yours, and you can see the thoughts racing behind his eyes. It's different from the usual nervous Felix you're used to. This is Felix with purpose, Felix with conviction.
Before you can even think of a response, he gently takes the martini glass out of your hand, placing it carefully on the nightstand. His fingers brush against yours as he sets the glass down, and the sudden contact sends a jolt of something electric up your spine.
"Fuck it," Felix murmurs, more to himself than to you, and suddenly his hands are cupping your face, pulling you toward him. His lips crash against yours, firm and decisive, nothing like the hesitant, unsure Felix you've known for so long.
The kiss is confident, controlled. He's guiding it, taking the lead. Felix's lips press against yours with an intensity that surprises you, his hands sliding from your face to your neck, his fingers curling gently in your hair. The kiss deepens, and you melt into it, your hands finding their way to his chest, gripping the soft fabric of his shirt as if anchoring yourself in the moment.
There's nothing hesitant about the way he's kissing you now—his tongue brushes against your bottom lip, and you part your lips instinctively, letting him take control. His movements are bold, purposeful, and you can feel the pent-up desire in the way his hands slide down your sides, pulling you closer.
Your heart pounds in your chest, the heat between you building with every second. You're not thinking anymore, just feeling the way Felix's lips move against yours, the taste of him, the warmth of his hands as they roam your body, tugging you closer as if he can't get enough.
The kiss becomes more intense, more heated, as if he's pouring everything he's ever felt into it—every shy glance, every blush, every quiet moment between the two of you. It's all here, in this kiss, and it leaves you breathless.
Just as things are heating up, the door swings open with a loud bang, and the moment is interrupted by a startled, "Oh shit!"
You both pull away, lips still tingling from the kiss, and turn toward the door. Chan is standing there, eyes wide, clearly caught off guard by what he's just walked in on.
"Oh shit," Chan repeats, blinking rapidly as if trying to process what he's seeing.
Behind him, you hear Minho's voice, dripping with his usual teasing tone. "Oh, hello."
Jisung is right behind them, a shit-eating grin plastered across his face. "Took you long enough, Felix. You're not all blushy anymore, huh?"
Minho steps further into the room, arms crossed, a satisfied smirk on his face. "That's what happens when you get the girl"
Felix leans back slightly, his arm still draped around your waist. He gives them a look that's half-annoyed, half-amused. "Do you guys mind?"
Jisung throws his hands up, still grinning. "Nah, we're just here for the show. About fucking time, by the way."
You glance at Felix, and he looks back at you, both of you sharing a quiet moment of amusement. "Are you guys done gawking, or are you planning on standing there all night?" you ask, crossing your arms but smiling nonetheless.
Minho leans against the doorframe, raising an eyebrow. "Depends. You two gonna make out again, or is that it for tonight?"
Felix rolls his eyes, pulling you closer against his side, his hand resting comfortably on your waist. "Maybe if you leave, we will."
Chan laughs, stepping forward and throwing an arm around Minho's shoulder. "Alright, alright, we'll give you two some privacy. But don't think this is over. We're definitely talking about this later."
Minho gives you both a knowing wink before finally retreating back into the hallway. "Good job, Lix"
As they turn to leave, Jisung lingers for just a second longer, his grin still annoyingly wide. "I'm proud of you, man. I knew you had it in you."
"Get out," Felix groans, though there's a smile playing on his lips.
With one final laugh, Jisung disappears down the hallway, the door clicking shut behind him, leaving you and Felix alone once again.
There's a beat of silence, and then Felix lets out a long sigh, his head falling forward to rest against your shoulder. "They're never gonna let me live this down, are they?"
You chuckle, threading your fingers through his soft hair. "Probably not. But hey, they're just jealous."
Felix lifts his head, his eyes locking with yours, and the playful smile that curves his lips is enough to make your heart race all over again. "You think so?"
You nod, leaning in closer until your noses are almost touching. "Definitely."
Without another word, Felix closes the small distance between you, his lips finding yours once again. This time, the kiss is slower, more deliberate, but no less intense. His hand slides up your back, pulling you against him, and you can feel the steady thrum of his heartbeat under your palm.
It's just the two of you now, no teasing friends, no interruptions, just the quiet sound of your breath mingling with his, the soft rustle of the sheets as you shift closer to each other on the bed.
When you finally pull away, breathless but content, Felix rests his forehead against yours, his voice a low murmur. "I've wanted to do that for a long time."
You smile, brushing a stray lock of hair away from his face. "What took you so long, then?"
He laughs softly, his fingers tracing gentle circles on your lower back. "I don't know. Guess I was scared of messing things up."
You tilt your head, your fingers playing with the hem of his shirt. "Well, you didn't mess anything up. In fact, I'd say you did pretty damn well."
Felix's grin widens, and for a moment, he looks like the Felix you've always known. Sweet, shy, and just a little bit unsure of himself. But there's something different now, something more confident in the way he holds you, the way his eyes flicker with a newfound certainty.
"I think we should probably lock the door next time," he says, his voice laced with amusement.
You laugh, resting your head on his shoulder. "Yeah, good idea. I'm not sure I can handle another round of Minho, Chan and Jisung."
Felix chuckles, his hand stroking your hair. "They're never gonna let me forget this, are they?"
You shake your head, closing your eyes as you relax into him. "Nope. But that's what makes them who they are."
There's a comfortable silence between you, the weight of what just happened settling in. It feels right. Like something that's been a long time coming. And as you sit there in the quiet, Felix's arms around you, you can't help but think that maybe, just maybe, those epic love stories aren't so far-fetched after all.
After a few moments, Felix speaks again. "So, what happens now?"
You pull back slightly, meeting his gaze with a smile. "Well, I was thinking we could finish that book discussion."
Felix laughs, shaking his head. "Of course. You and your books."
You grin, leaning in to kiss him softly. "What can I say? I like a good story."
Felix's smile is warm as he pulls you closer. "Well, I think we're writing a pretty good one ourselves."
And with that, the two of you settle back into the comfortable rhythm that has always been there—only now, it feels a little different. A little more certain. A little more yours.

i love your fluffy jessey fics so much !!
safe with you | jesse x reader
Tumblr media
author's note : awh, thank you !! it means a lot, truly. <3 i'm glad you're enjoying them! tysm, requests are always open!
summary : you’re the girl everyone in jackson wants — but the only person you want is jesse, who’s too convinced he’ll never be enough. through quiet moments, a little bravery, and a rainy night that changes everything, you finally show him he’s all you’ve ever needed.
word count : 1.2k
Tumblr media
you hadn’t meant to fall for jesse.
you hadn’t even meant to notice him.
but that was the thing about noticing someone: once you started, it was impossible to stop.
first, it was the way he carried himself. not arrogant, not loud—just steady. solid. the kind of person you trusted instantly, even if you weren’t sure why.
then it was his laugh. warm and low, the kind that stuck with you hours after you heard it.
and then… it was everything.
the way his hair curled slightly when it rained. the way he offered his gloves to friends who forgot theirs. the way his brow furrowed when he read patrol maps. the way he always knelt to tie the laces of little kids' boots in the winter.
jesse was good.
and the more you noticed, the more it became unbearable.
because you weren’t subtle, not anymore. you looked at him like the sun rose for him alone. and jesse—sweet, oblivious jesse—looked at you like you were the sky itself.
but somehow, neither of you moved. not for months.
it didn’t help that the town treated you like… well, like something.
you weren’t sure when it started.
at first, it was innocent enough. a smile here, a wave there. you tried to be kind, and jackson was starved for kindness.
then came the little gifts. the small crowd of people who wanted to walk you home after patrol. the hopeful glances at the tipsy bison whenever you entered.
you handled it all as gracefully as you could.
but it was exhausting.
because the only person you wanted to notice you—really notice you—seemed to think he didn’t stand a chance.
jesse was polite, always. friendly. but he kept a quiet distance, like the idea of wanting you was unthinkable.
and all the while, you wanted him more than anyone else in this strange, fragile world.
you couldn’t take it anymore.
you tried to be patient. you told yourself maybe jesse just wasn’t ready, or maybe he didn’t feel the same. but the way he looked at you—soft, longing, like he was drowning and you were the only air—made you believe otherwise.
so you decided: enough waiting.
you were going to make him see it. subtly. gently. but clearly.
if you had to shout it from the rooftops, so be it.
it was a bright morning, cool and crisp, when you found your first chance.
you spotted jesse near the stables, hauling supplies with tommy.
you wandered over, as casual as you could manage.
“hey,” you said, voice light.
jesse turned, face lighting up. “hey. you heading out?”
“nope.” you smiled. “free day.”
he nodded, then returned to his work.
you hesitated. your heart thumped too loud in your ears. but you had to start somewhere.
“you need help?”
jesse blinked. “nah, i got it. you sure you wanna waste your free day on this?”
you shrugged, grinning. “i’d hardly call it wasting.”
and there it was—that flush, soft and pink, that climbed jesse’s cheeks whenever you said things like that.
helping turned into coffee.
coffee turned into long walks.
walks turned into evenings spent sitting on the back porch of the community hall, just talking. just being.
you learned that jesse liked to read, even if he always called himself "bad at it." you learned he loved the stars, though he never quite remembered the constellations. you learned he worried constantly—about patrols, about tommy, about everyone.
you listened. you leaned in. you smiled so much your cheeks hurt.
and jesse… he looked at you like you were made of starlight.
but he never moved. never asked. never said the words you were desperate to hear.
still, little things piled up.
the way his fingers brushed yours just slightly when he handed you a mug. the way he always waited outside the tipsy bison to walk you home, even when you left with others. the way he watched you across crowded rooms, eyes soft, when he thought you weren’t looking.
he wanted you. you were sure of it.
but something held him back.
it was the rain that finally cracked the shell.
one evening, a storm rolled in—cold and sudden.
you were stuck in the stables helping wrangle two restless horses when jesse appeared, jacket soaked, hair dripping.
“jesse,” you laughed. “what are you doing? you’re soaked!”
he grinned sheepishly. “heard you were still out. figured you might need a ride back.”
your heart swelled so fast you almost couldn’t breathe.
“you’re ridiculous,” you whispered.
“yeah.” he shrugged, rubbing the back of his neck. “guess i am.”
when the horses were settled, you turned to him.
“let’s go,” he said, offering his hand.
you took it.
the ride through the rain was cold and wet and perfect.
by the time you reached your porch, you were both shivering, breath clouding the air.
“come in,” you said firmly.
jesse hesitated. “i—”
“jesse.”
that was all it took.
you lit the small stove. the room filled with soft warmth.
jesse sat stiffly on the couch, jacket draped over the back of a chair.
you made tea with shaking hands.
when you handed him the mug, your fingers brushed again—this time lingering.
“thank you,” he said softly.
you sat beside him, close enough to feel the heat of his body.
for a long time, neither of you spoke.
finally, jesse let out a long, trembling breath.
“y/n… why are you always so kind to me?”
your heart broke a little.
you turned, eyes searching his.
“because i care about you.”
he swallowed hard. “you could have anyone.”
you smiled, tears prickling your eyes. “but i don’t want anyone.”
he looked at you then—really looked.
“i’ve liked you for so long,” he whispered. “but i didn’t think i should. i didn’t think you’d ever…”
you leaned in, heart racing.
“jesse,” you whispered. “you’re all i want.”
for a moment, the world held its breath.
then jesse cupped your face with trembling hands and kissed you.
things changed, but softly.
the town still looked. still asked. but now jesse walked beside you, hand in yours, warm and steady.
he kissed you good morning before patrols. he met you with tired smiles and open arms at the end of long days. he touched your cheek like he still couldn’t believe you were real.
and you loved him with everything you had.
in a world that had taken so much, you built something safe. something bright.
sometimes, at night, jesse would hold you close and whisper:
“can’t believe i get to have this.”
and every time, you would smile and kiss his jaw and say:
“you always could.”

Vibin'
So I've been thinking about how some of my favorite books vibe with one another, and a map might be a better format for this and this is really just for me to quiet my brain a little but whatever, here's the list:
(The top line book will be the ur-book that sets the vibe, usually a childhood favorite; this does not mean that these are necessarily kid-friendly books!) (If you actually see and read this post, please reblog and suggest books because I'm going to throw down some ur-books that I have yet to find any simpatico fellows for!) (I will update my list as I read and discover)
Murderbot
Is it just me or would El Higgins and Murderbot coexist well??? Also, can’t believe I almost forgot to put my favorite traumatized construct on this list!
Howl's Moving Castle
Emily Wilde and its sequels
Ten Thousand Stitches
Sabriel and its sequels
Vespertine
Sorcery of Thorns (specifically, Lirael and there's also a UU library but also a Mogget)
Nettle & Bone
The Blue Sword
Crown Duel
The Goblin Emperor
Crown Duel
The Vorkosigan Saga
The Queen’s Thief
Discworld
T Kingfisher's World of the White Rat, incl. The Saint of Steel series. The gnolls esp. feel Discworldish.
A Deadly Education and The Scholomance series. Both El and Vimes understand The Beast
To Say Nothing of the Dog, Doomsday Book and Connie Willis at large
The Lord Peter Wimsey series
PG Wodehouse
Ella Enchanted
Half a Soul and its sequels
The Lord of Stariel
Thornhedge awww
A Sorceress Comes to Call
The Hunger Games
The Locked Tomb
Also Vespertine (above) a bit. Lots of dead things, and sassy ghosts in your head, and religious fanatics, and eldritch horrors. TLT is A Lot so I don’t want to overpromise but the main character is an neurodivergent nun and she’s wonderful. Also there’s a hot priest. It is YA so significantly less gore.
His Dark Materials
Godkiller also vibes with THG a bit. Def a dash of Peenis.
Temeraire, except obviously Lyra would be friends with Temeraire and Pan and Lawrence would commiserate
Pride & Prejudice and Austen at large
An-Ever Fixed Mark and its universe
A Lady's Guide to Fortune-Hunting this author is so wildly unknown and underrated where is the discourse wtf
A Lady's Guide to Scandal
Memory of Morning. It’s a one hit wonder but it really, really hits for me. She’s a ship doctor who gets shore leave and gets to hang out with her bluestocking family during the season in a not-Britain. There’s language of flowers. There’s alien-intelligence-giant-glowing-octopodes. There’s a wee little doggy. I haven’t enjoyed anything else by this author but damn do I keep rereading this one.

Reasons Stephanie Brown is black
Grew up alienated from other kids despite always being kind and openly friendly for no other reason they thought she was 'weird' even though she was never malicious
Unconventional, strong, bold yet soft femininity that gets mistaken for masculinity
Ex-kid genius with street cred beyond her years who was constantly talked down to by adults and treated as stupid
Hates authority and loves the people
Became a vigilante out of a very strong sense of community and a thirst to give privileged abusers their downfall so they couldn't get away with it
But genuinely understands the crime system and dosen't fall for dehumanization propaganda and fights for universal rights over moral purity
Punk but actually,a traumatized no filter mouth running post hardcore music jamming chunky boots bully beating energy drinks and bad for you food chugging underground shows/parties sneaking out to diy doing eco-friendly anarchist and not an Avril Lavigne white girl that only hangs around guys and other white girls and is sad and mopping and objectifies and infantalizes herself nonstop and rolls her eyes at intersectionality and politics talk
Usually has straight hair but her hair is huge as Robin(silk press/natural)
Prioritizes kids of color in her big sis adoptions/team mom-ing i.e Nell,Damian,Tiffany and Maps
Mama's girl with motherly trauma but a big grip onto what made her mom that way and they work things out with her mom genuinely improving as soon as she can
Cycle breaker
Gamer girl,Hot Girl,Dorkgirl,It Girl
Is more like Kory than she is to any white DC blonde
Tim,certified black woman lover, was in love with her and she had him down horrendous but the feeling was mutual because black women love Tim Drake back
Cass and hers' connection over mutually similar yet fundamentally different in a complimentary way backgrounds they started their best friendship over and turned into butch4femme roommates-girlfriends
Also uses 'Sister' as slang for female friend
Visual pun with coming from a neighbourhood that heavily resembles a hood and wearing an attached hood in all her homemade Spoiler costumes
1/2 of the only Batkids Jason never beefed with, the other being Duke and Stephanie and Duke goof around and take on the man like classic black siblings together and Jason and her exchange motivational and reassuring words to eachother on the anger they feel towards the world for hurting them so hard so young and Duke has the same anger within him Jason that also comforts him over and has his back whenever his place in the Batfam is denied so they're the Black Robins Squad
Her name just sounds like Girl Hobie Brown
I'm a black woman who's exactly like Stephanie Brown
So Stephanie Brown is a black woman.👾👧🏿Confirmed👩🏿‍🦱🪀

the final state — not an enemy and not a friend
It's not a possible future because it's already happened and yet hasn't — the two coexist in tandem. Tim Drake cannot escape the mantle; you do not deny your own. In that one future where Tim becomes Batman.
Amanda Waller keeps you alive because she is cruel.
She picks you off the rubbled catastrophe of cinders and heat not because you are a child hunched over in vengeful rage — no, anger has always been a game of Russian roulette where the gun jams and explodes in your hand.
She picks you because she sees you pry your father's sneakers from his cooling corpse to exchange them for a picture book. Because she sees you place it in your little brother's lap and lean against the crumbled brick wall, watching him try to sound out the words. The bodies of your parents lie beside you. And your hands are cracked and coated in white dust from the shattered sheetrock you dug them out of.
So you're thirteen when Amanda Waller steals you from what was once your city, now a no-mans zone on any updated map. You wouldn't call her a parent. She does not know nurture. Instead, she orders and she tests. If you do not learn, you are useless. Because Amanda Waller can threaten gods and men barely human, but Amanda Waller cannot outmaneuver time. Yet she has you, and through you, through every idea and mannerism she ingrains, there she will continue on to live — her work unfished and waiting.
Because the nation will always want the boy scout with an 'S' and a cape, who's as tender as the sun that keeps him strong, but the world will always need an Amanda Waller who plays the scales and makes the call no matter who's blood it is. As long as she wins. As long as it keeps the world turning.
You're not Waller, but sometimes you think you're worse. You've lived through doomsday once, you don't care if you live through another; but your brother's just starting college. He's got a girl he's seeing. Might marry her one day, have kids, sit outside with them all in the yard with a white-picket fence. Maybe he'll call you for Christmas.
So you make the hard calls. Keep the world turning.
Even when the nation fractures into east and west and legacies pass down or die, you keep one foot in front of the other. Waller retires and you think something in her has gone soft. Maybe she sees the new heroes of tomorrow and thinks of the ones dead and buried. It shouldn't matter because they failed either way. Whatever sacrifice they made already forgotten.
You draw up the plans, set the game board, give the world what it needs to keep on holding to that rope and not let go no matter how rotten it gets.
Waller finds out about your meetings with the new Batman and it's all there in her tone. You've learned how to read it.
"I used to wonder what the world would be like if we were left without heroes," she says.
You glance her way — when was her voice so small ? — turn back to the mission footage. "I don't need them to be heroes. Just need them to do their job." Because Bruce Wayne dedicated his life and soul to Gotham and all he did was leave it worse off than he found it. You don't need another Bruce Wayne because Bruce Wayne failed. It's good that the mantle found its way into Tim Drake's hands. Even if it consumes him, even if it kills him.
You're closer to the Titans of Tomorrow than you'd like to be. But it's necessary. Where Waller often started things off forceful and demanding, you're friendly and complacent — deceptively so. It doesn't gain you their trust but it gives you their respect. Lex Luthor is trickier, but you have mutual goals. That makes him predictable.
When Tim Drake starts fraying at the edges, his mind too scattered, his sensibilities caving, you wrap your arms around him and squeeze him tight. You stitch him back together because his work's not finished yet.
And Tim let's you.
Even if he knows why, he holds on to it. Because the world's gone cold and all the warmth is in the wrong places.
"Everything's a cycle," you tell him, late at night through the speaker. You never say where you are but you'd bet he knows. It's why he calls in as you man taskforce X off the border of Tibet. Your finger hovers over the red button on the desk, watching the live camera feed flicker in grayscale as operatives argue.
Static hums between you. The line crackles as he exhales. "Patterns, not cycles."
"Or like a staircase."
"Descending or ascending?" he asks.
You hum. "Descending. You?"
"I'd like to think ascending."
"Well, you're the genius."
He groans. "So they say." It could pass off as amusement, if both of you pretend the exhaustion isn't veiled there.
You press on. "Either way, you've got your dips and peaks. I'd say, right now, we're living through the dip. Not the end times, but they're not pretty. We're not living in the same world as our predecessors, so we can't go about things the same way. No matter what they call it, we're living in wartime so we gotta act like soldiers. But there's going to be a peak again. A time when maybe the ideal world you're thinking of might happen. Another Bruce. Another Clark. Another Diana. Maybe better."
A pause. Just enough to let the words stir.
"It's drawing nearer," you say, eyes fixated on the screen. Operatives are aiming at one another. "But I'm not going to wait for another Crisis to reset the board. It's in our hands."
You wait for a minute. You imagine Tim in the cave or in the tower, his blue eyes behind that cowl that reminds him so much of Bruce when he stares into the mirror and it's like a betrayal because he's nothing of what Bruce stood for. The yellow symbol on his chest has been corrupted in his hands.
In the end, Tim doesn't say anything, just a quiet inhale through the comm, just enough to be picked up. So, you press the red button.
And something pops.

Okay, I've realized a few things thanks to a different post. Harry would have many enemies if he grew up in Snape's era.
Let's say harry is still the kid he is now but not with James and Lily as his parents. He simply is that boy who lived, with different looks (but still handsome as he would be), and talented.
Marauders, lily and many others would be angry at his presence. Let's go with James:
James: Harry is a good quidditch star. Probably better than his father since harry had that natural talent within him. He never saw or played it before yet could instantly find something akin to a snitch in one go. Broke first year ruke and actually did bring home a cup because James was injured so harry and to replace him in a game.
Sirius: Harry would be popular with the ladies which Black would appreciate. But since Harry hates bullying, it would most often paint James and Sirius as the bad guys and have dark rumours about them going around in the school. Which automatically lifts Harry up the popularity list while marauders eat the dust basically. And we all know how Sirius gets when his precious James is being hated.
Remus: Remus would be shamed over and over again by Harry's natural good personality, although reckless, but good overall. He would be ridiculed for not putting an end to the marauders earlier. "Why did a new kid have to do that?" He obviously wouldn't be ridiculed by Harry, but his conscious.
Peter: He'd try to swiftly leave his own group to join Harry's side but it quickly shows that Harry isn't much of a "prankster" kind of person. Especially when it's pulled on kids that weren't on friendly terms with them or are used as the butt of a joke one times too often. Peter would be fed up rather quick, or he would have a change of heart.
Lily: she'd try to be nice and all but her words would rub harry wrong real quickly. With him being the explosive kind. Her words that always sound smart yet somehow stupid at the same time would annoy the hell out him. "What do you mean, give Potter another chance?" She would try to bring peace in her Gryffindor house because, at this point two groups exist. A small Marauders group, and a big Harry group. And she who loves James, is secretly in the marauders group but tries to play it off as neutral (sounds like Ive heard that somewhere, oh yeah. Her being a bitch to Snape.) and he would be done with her. I even think as payback, he would break even more rules.
Dumbledore who adores a rule breaker like Harry who at least contributes something useful unlike the marauders and their stunts, is Harry's rewards. Imagine the marauders and Lily simply eating their own intestines full of hatred or worry.
Every house would be upset. Because only harry seems to have that privilege. Any other student who is even caught outside curfew, is risking their house. Marauders even would try to call harry names like they did with Snape, but nothing would work against harry his immense popularity. Harry also has his cloak and map to get his stuff done.
Snape would be grateful now that marauders aren't pranking him, like many other unfortunate kids, but him the most. He wasn't too busy with competing like lily, and marauders. He wasn't busy trying to fit in like gryffindors and Slytherins. He was always in his own world. Pretty much like a few ravenclaws were.
Only difference between him and a ravenclaw is that his peace was disturbed often by marauders. Maybe, thanks to Harry his interference, he wouldn't have joined DE. He'd definitely remember Harry in a good way in his adult years.

Merlinverse Among Us (Session 3 Highligths): Part 2 of 2
Featuring: Mag. Sena (@bunnybird-afk), Mag. Celestino & Mag. Memphis (@meepinmeat), Mag. Beahreth (@beaverthemerlin), Mag. Linnie (@hobbies-miscellaneous), and Dame Lavinia (@windmaedchen).
Round 2 ended up being Hide and Seek where Sena decided to teach his kids how to hunt each other for sport play a friendly game of tag as a team-building exercise. It very quickly devolved into abject chaos. Here’s some of my favourite moments.
Honourable mentions: Us being dead silent for the first few rounds because this mode had us that stressed out. Sena being invisible to everyone else for a solid ten minutes in the Lobby (guess his presence concealment was a bit too strong). Us joking that we were gonna get flashbacks about being chased through The Fungle when exploring Sal’ Thorin in a few days. Everyone else being concerned when they find out the Merlins (and a Heroic Order Knight) casually crash out and chase each other around in a random simulator/uninhabited part of Esperia to de-stress. Hobbs telling us a very fascinating story about traumatising their friends by doing this IRL.
[Linnie is the Hunter]
“Kyaaa! Nope nope nope nope nope!” Memphis shrieked, sprinting through the sand filled corridors. “Leave me aloooone!” She yelled as Linnie trailed close behind.
Beah looked up from the lake, blinking at them both in confusion as they ran passed her. “Huh? What in the world was that??” she asked, a puzzled expression on her face. As the noise faded into the distance, she simply shrugged, turning her attention back to fishing.
[Memphis was Eliminated]

[End of Round, Linnie is the Hunter, Crewmates Win].
Linnie: Beah, where were you? I couldn’t find you anywhere??
Beah: Hsbhdu, I was fishing!
Beah: It was fun hearing everyone screaming though.
Linnie: …

[Celestino is the Hunter].
“Uncle Sena, I’m hungry.” Celestino whined while rounding the corner, the flat affect of his voice making the childish statement sound almost absurd. “The Divine Dew wasn’t enough. I’m a growing boy…” he lamented, a small smile on his usually stoic face.
Sena couldn’t help but let out a startled laugh, giving away his hiding place. “Cel, you’re a grown man…” he reminded, his voice tinged with amusement and a hint of disbelief.
“Oh, hey uncle.” Cel greeted innocently before immediately tackling Sena to the ground. “Got you!”
Sena huffed, rolling his eyes even as a small, proud smile played at his lips. “Yeah, yeah. You got me…”
[Sena was Eliminated].

[Between Rounds].
Lavi: I’ve been doing nothing but completing tasks this whole time but I keep getting caught.
Memphis: Is there even a point in doing tasks during this game?
Lavi: …
Lavi: You know what, if you’re not doing tasks then you probably deserve to be eliminated. (-_-)
Beah: I feel like our task right now is to survive! (ToT)
· · ─────── ·𖥸· ─────── · ·
[Sena is the Hunter].
Sena glanced over at the HUD, watching as the little marker flitted around the room at the corner of the map.
“Lavi, I think that’s a dead end sweetie…” he said into the Merlindabest, already making his way to her location. Sena paused at the doorway, watching for a moment as the young knight casually rearranged some files, sorting them into neat, orderly stacks.
“I don’t know this map, ok? Just let me finish my tasks since no one else is doing them!” Lavi retorted, ignoring him in favour of checking on some nearby machinery.
Sena blinked a few times before sighing softly, his expression a mix of fondness and exasperation. “Wow, you really are his god-daughter…” he noted, before calmly padding over to the knight. Without a word, he placed a gentle hand on her head before ruffling her hair affectionately.
[Lavi was Eliminated].
· · ─────── ·𖥸· ─────── · ·
[Between Rounds]
Lavi: You know, this is actually really fun. Maybe I should implement this as a new form of training for the Heroic Order’s newest recruits…
Lavi: Maybe then they’ll stop slacking off during drills (-_-).
Sena: Oh, those poor recruits…
Beah: New form of training, avoiding Dame Lavinia’s wrath. XD
· · ─────── ·𖥸· ─────── · ·
[Memphis is the Hunter].
“Oh Mr. Cyran~ Where are you?” Memphis sang, skipping through the darkened hallways, her eyes glowing faintly as she scanned the area. Catching a sudden glimpse of movement from the corner of her eye, her hand shot out, wrapping around some ones wrist.
Lavi squeaked in surprise before letting out a frustrated groan. “No! I was just on my way to the weapons area!” she complained, frowning slightly at being caught before having completed her self-imposed duties.
Memphis took a moment to process what had happened before releasing Lavinia’s wrist. “You’re not Mr. Cyran…” she sulked, her voice full of disappointment. “Oh well, he has to be here somewhere!” she perked up, immediately continuing her search.
Leaving Lavinia to stare after her, confused and slightly concerned.
[Lavinia was Eliminated].
· · ─────── ·𖥸· ─────── · ·
[Beah is the Hunter].
Lavi’s eyes blazed with determination as she sprinted to the zip-line. It was all on her now, and she could hear her team members cheering her on from the side-lines. Just two more minutes…
As she made her way up the line, she made eye-contact with Beahreth who was staring at her with a shocked expression…from the other zipline, going in the opposite direction…
The rest of the group burst into laughter as Beahreth frantically tried to change direction, but Lavi was already one step ahead. She wove her way through the undergrowth, triggering spores to disorient Beah who was hot on her trail.
Four.
The Hunter tried her best, attempting to circle back and cut Lavinia off on the other path. Her own competitive spirit blazing as the final match drew to a close.
Five.
Three.
Two.
Beah lunged forward, hands outstretched, only to be blinded by another cloud of mushroom spores.
[Lavi Survives. Crewmates Win].
· · ─────── ·𖥸· ─────── · ·
Felt like doing this one in a more narrative style cause it felt fun! Plus, it was nice trying to interpret in-game events in a way that fit our characters. Can't wait to do this again! Love you guys! ^-^

Kidd (Trolls OC)
BACKSTORY/CHILDHOOD: Kidd (also responds to Kiddo) is biologically a pop troll, but she was never raised amongst them. Her parents were eaten by the outcasted Chef (before the events of the first movie), but at the last minute, her mom managed to throw Kidd's egg far from Chef's view. Eventually, an unsuspecting Cloud Guy came across Kidd's egg. He wasn't that interested in it and disregarded the egg, throwing it behind him, only for the egg to crack upon impact and for Kidd to be born (prematurely at that). Realizing what he did, he kinda took responsibility for baby Kidd but was barely a reliable guardian. Cloud Guy never truly named her, resorting to just calling her kid/kiddo, so much so that she considered that her name.
Growing up, Cloud Guy would tell her how there were other trolls out there, to which she started to wonder where she belonged. She craved finding out what type of troll she truly was-- sure she was technically a Pop Troll, but she wasn't entirely sure if she could just accept that without experiencing all the different genres of music. Her curiosity only grew as she grew till eventually, at the age of 12, she decided to explore the world on her own. With some encouragement and support on Cloud Guy's side, Kidd made her way into unexplored territory, letting the winds guide her journey (she didn't have a plan, so she just went with the flow-- a trait she learned from C.G.). It was rough... to say the least. Even if she had lived moving around the forest, there was only so much a 12-year-old could do on their own. She was almost eaten by some creature, barely escaping. She lost a piece of her right ear during the escape. Despite all this, and more, she never lost sight of her goal. She kept brave and optimistic throughout her journey. Kidd enjoyed her time exploring, she wrote and drew everything down in a journal she was given. She was crafty and good at using her resources (and she was extremely lucky), so traveling alone wasn't much of an issue. Her friendly personality earned her the trust of a few nonhostile critters, specifically Poof, a Glowfly that had become quite attached to Kidd.
PERSONALITY: Kidd is a very brave and optimistic troll. She is friendly and easygoing. So much so that she is usually just going with the flow of whatever is going on around her. She is very open-minded and easy to talk to. On the other hand, she can be very reckless, blunt, and indecisive. She tends to mirror the behavior of others around her, which does make her much easier to approach in most cases, however, it comes to a point where she doesn't know if she's acting on her own accord or just copying someone else (She suffers from copycat syndrome and is mildly aware of this). She sometimes lacks social cues, but that's mainly from being raised by C.G and never staying in one place long enough to understand how others might truly feel. However, she does know when she oversteps a boundary and tries to fix it once she realizes it. She has a rather dry sense of humor and tends to find herself in mischief more often than not. She loves teasing others and seeing how far she can get without getting in trouble. She doesn't scare easily but has a deep fear of being outcasted. Despite that, she does not mind traveling by herself (mainly because she's on a mission to find a true home). She loves having company and is more of a listener than a yapper.
GENRES SHE HAS VISITED/EXPERIENCED...in order:
Funk (pre-first movie... 12-14 y.o...)
Country (pre-first movie... 14-15 y.o...)
SubGenres (pre-first movie... 15-16 y.o...Lost Map during this time)+ Latin Trolls and Folklore Trolls
Rock (post first movie... 16-18 y.o...)
Pop (pre-second movie... 18-19 y.o...)
*On her way to Symphonyville, she got there a bit late, seeing how it was in ruins, so not sure what to do, she went back to Pop Village. By the time she got there, the Rock Apocalypse had ended. She resides in the Troll Kingdom (based on the series: TrollsTopia), where she experiences all the main genres. She has yet to decide what type of troll she is.
TRIVIA:
was created more as a self-insert but eventually turned into an oc
is not part of the main cast whatsoever but reappears in the background as a minor background character (still knows/has heard of the main cast before, just doesn't stick around long enough to be considered one of them)
Despite having already seen most of the main genres of music, she continues to explore outside of the Troll Kingdom in search of other subgenres, and mainly to explore. She always goes back to the Trolls Kingdom after a few months or so. (still going through an identity crisis lol)
Calls Cloud Guy her Cloud Pa
When she dresses up to fit in, she dresses Poof up too
very touch starved, but never initiates it unless needed
Turned 20 after the events of the third movie
Due to the way she was born, she was much smaller than most trolls her age (but not as small as Smidge)
What she wore before she met the funk trolls was a makeshift top and pants from some of Cloud Guy's old socks
Carries with her Socko, which is just a sock with googly eyes that C.G made her when she was a child to keep her entertained.
Looks up to Queen Essence a lot, mainly because she was like her first mother figure
LIKES & DISLIKES: Likes:
Moving around (never in one place for too long)
Dressing up
Playing the Piano/Keyboard and Harmonica
Singing and Whistling
Listening to people talk
Bad jokes (usually sarcastic jokes, puns, or dad jokes) and doing high-five variations (got that from Cloud Guy)
Collecting Memorabilia
Puffalos- (and of course her little companion, Poof)
Hug Time (again, very touch-starved)
Dislikes:
Stotic/Serious people
Glitter (or anything flaky and hard to get off)
Feeling left out or seeing others get left out
THIS IS ALL FOR NOW THE FUTURE UPDATES WILL HAVE MORE INSIGHT INTO HER AND HER RELATIONSHIP WITH OTHERS

Family Name
Pairing: Bruce Wayne x reader (reader was in the Army and SWAT in Central City)
Summary: After ten years away, you return to Gotham. When you discover you know the true identity of the Joker, you join Batman's fight to save Gotham.
Warnings: angst, fluff, vague references to several DC Comics movies and timelines, murder (I can't get too specific about the murder warning without spoiling a plot point, but there is a friendly fire aspect and an assassination by a sniper)
Word Count: 6.6k+ words
A/N: This is my first time writing for Bruce Wayne (or at least posting it lol) so he may be OOC. I actually wrote most of this a year ago and just put the finishing touches on it, so I'm not sure if it's worth reading. Feel free to let me know what you think and send any Bruce Wayne requests you have so I can keep practicing for him! (If you want a specific characterization/actor let me know.)
The map that I used as a reference while writing is included at the end!

Gotham is still cold, wet, and smelly. Some things never change, no matter how hard a certain vigilante tries. It’s been nearly ten years since you last set foot in Gotham, and things have changed. For better or worse? Who can tell?
It is raining as you walk out of the train station on the outer border of Gotham City. You shiver and pull your jacket closer to your body as the cold drizzle starkly contrasts the sunny Central City you came from. You hail a cab and tell the driver the address of your temporary apartment. The news station on the radio catches your attention, and the driver turns it up when you ask.
“After a fearsome showdown last night with the Joker, who is still missing from Arkham Asylum, the Batman has been spotted in downtown Gotham. The GCPD is on high alert following several tips of illegal business at the Iceberg Lounge,” they report.
“You new in town?” the driver asks.
“Not exactly. I haven’t been here in years though,” you explain.
“Then you’re new. This is a whole new Gotham. Just stay on the good side of the Batman and you’ll be fine, kid. This is you.”
After paying the driver and pulling your bags from the trunk, you stand on the sidewalk and look up at the place you now call home. The apartment building is old but in decent condition. Especially considering where it is. As the rain grows heavier, you move inside, climbing the stairs to the third floor and entering your apartment. The unit came furnished, so you only have some clothing to unpack. You start a list of the housewares and cleaning supplies you’ll need to buy. Walking around the living room, you notice the cable is hooked up and turn on the television. The local television channels are either out because of the rain or playing broadcasts of last night’s story. Any background noise will do, you suppose, as you leave a news channel on and begin unpacking and cleaning with what little bit of supplies you have.
After cleaning, you take a break and fall back onto the couch. The news is still on, and a face flashes across the scene, filling you with an odd sense of recognition. You lean forward to get a better view before exclaiming, “No way.”
✯✯✯✯✯
“When did you come back?” someone asks as you enter a small department store.
Looking up, you smile when you see a familiar face. “Barbara, hey! Last night. Been in Central City for too long.”
“Should have stayed there,” she says, laughing humorlessly. “Gotham is quite literally the most crime ridden city in the world now. It’s on the sign and everything. At least in Central you have a vigilante to protect you.”
“So does Gotham,” you point out. “He’s all over the news.”
“Yeah, we do. But for every criminal he puts in Arkham, ten more pop up.”
“Is your dad still a cop?”
“He’s the commissioner now. Actually…” She pulls a card out of her wallet and hands it to you. “Call him if you ever get in trouble. Be careful, okay? This isn’t the Gotham you remember.”
“I will. Thanks.”
You watch her leave before you begin shopping for the items on your list. After shopping, you are back in your apartment, cleaning and organizing. The Gotham News has more showtime than Hannah Montana in the 2000s. You find yourself invested in every story they present. Maybe this isn’t the Gotham you remember, but it is still Gotham and your home. If this city needs help, you'll offer everything you have.
“Citizens of Gotham, I am Police Commissioner James Gordon. Regarding the recent red alert at Arkham Asylum, the GCPD is urging residents to stay indoors, lock doors and windows, and most importantly, stay calm. We are not sure at this time how many, if any, patients escaped the asylum. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact crime stoppers at 800-”
You mute the television and look at your closet. An armour-plated uniform hangs front and centre, practically begging you to put it on and fight for your home. If Barbara doesn’t think Batman can handle all the criminals, maybe he would appreciate a little help.
“Don’t be stupid,” you chastise yourself, still looking at the closet. A few minutes later, you find yourself standing in front of the closet, thinking, “But you have the training.”
✯✯✯✯✯
Gotham looks much darker from a rooftop. You find a lookout spot a few blocks from Arkham, assuming anyone who escaped will have to pass you eventually.
“Oh, sweet Gotham! Riddle me this!” a high-pitched voice calls. A moment later, you see a man dressed in a green suit entering the alley below you.
“Now or never,” you whisper as you move toward the edge.
“The more of it there is, the less of all you see. What is it?” Riddler asks.
“Darkness,” you answer as you grab his shoulders.
You pull him backwards and knock him to the ground. His breath rushes out at the impact, and you bring your elbow down to his face, rendering him unconscious before he can catch his breath. The burner phone you bought earlier is programmed with James Gordon’s number in it.
“Gordon,” he answers.
“Riddler is unconscious in the alley at Tomlinson and Pygall,” you say lowly, hoping your voice is disguised enough, before hanging up.
Your attention is ripped away from the unconscious criminal as a silhouette of a bat floats across the sky.
“There’s hope yet, Gotham,” you say, smiling.
✯✯✯✯✯
It seems as though you are better at vigilantism than you expected. Everywhere you go, Batman is either already there or crosses your path. He has yet to see you, that much is sure. Lurking on a dark rooftop, you hear the telltale sign of his grappling hook and are a second too late in realizing he is moving onto the same roof as you.
“So, you’re the one who’s been stealing half my jobs?” he asks, walking toward you.
“You seem busy, thought you might like some help,” you respond, shrugging as you change your voice again.
“Don’t get me wrong, I appreciate the thought. But you need to go home. This is dangerous and you could get hurt.”
You internally roll your eyes at his obvious arguments. “So could you.”
“Doesn’t matter if I get hurt.”
“Me neither. Any idea how many more of them are out there?”
Batman sighs and turns away from you to look over the city. “One or two,” he answers. “The city got lucky; Joker was in solitary and didn’t get out.”
You nod to yourself, moving toward the edge as you ask, “Why does it seem so easy to escape Arkham?”
“Poor security, not enough staff, an old building. The list is endless. Every time someone tries to strengthen it, a stronger foe comes along and breaks it again.”
“You’ve been doing this a long time.”
“Yet nothing’s changed.”
A sound behind you stops your answer. Turning toward the sound, you launch yourself onto the fire escape, ignoring Batman’s pleas to stop.
“Whoa,” you breathe, looking at the plants growing in the alley.
“You’re not the Bat,” Poison Ivy, whose news special aired last night, says. “You’d look much better in green than him.”
“Every plant I’ve ever owned has died. It’s one of my talents,” you taunt before throwing a canister from your belt.
“It won’t work, Buttercup. I’ve been tear gassed many times.”
“It’s not just tear gas,” you call as the plants begin to wither. “It’s concentrated sulfur dioxide. Deadly to plants and debilitating to people.”
She coughs several times before falling. An arm wraps around your waist, and you are hoisted through the air before landing on a rooftop.
“What was that?!” Batman demands.
“Sulfur dioxide.”
“That’s not what I mean, and you know it! You can’t just run around taunting criminals in a mask. What if that hadn’t worked and she had hurt you?”
“She didn’t. Besides-“
“No! You don’t get to justify this.” He keeps talking, and you feel like you have heard him before. You watch him closely as he continues berating you.
“This is not a game. Do you understand that?” Bingo. You smile at him, his chest heaving as he prepares to yell at you again.
“You’re still really protective,” you say lightly.
Batman turns toward you quickly, shaking his head before asking, “What?”
“In middle school you wouldn’t let me jump from the top of the swing set. Just funny that you’re still so protective when you risk your life every single night.”
“What are you talking about?”
You move toward the edge of the building and look over your shoulder at him.
“Goodnight, Bruce.”
Batman runs to the edge after you jump, but the alley is empty.
“Alfred,” he calls into his earpiece.
“You’ll figure it out, sir. Eventually.”
✯✯✯✯✯
“Didn’t I tell you to stay home?” Batman asks as he walks up behind you.
“No. You told me I couldn’t run around taunting criminals in a mask. Which, by the way, I have some questions about. Can I walk and taunt criminals in a mask or is it the taunting that’s the problem?” you tease, looking up at him from your crouched position.
“Ha ha,” he deadpans. “I’ll give you a pass for the other night, but you need to go home. Right now. I’m not letting you get hurt for this.”
“Then don’t. Watch my back and I’ll watch yours.” You extend your hand for a handshake as you stand.
“No deal. Go home.”
“I’m not going home. So, stay with me and we can help each other or I’m going to go hunt him down on my own.”
He narrows his eyes at you before sighing and shaking your hand.
“Why are you smiling?” he asks as he releases your hand.
“We always were a pretty good team.”
You see the moment of recognition as his jaw drops under the cowl. He recovers quickly and points at you.
“Ground rules. Number one: you don’t engage. Two: stay hidden. Three: run if things go south.”
“Got it. Be boring,” you relay.
“This is not the time for jokes. Our lives are on the line. You don’t even have a good reason to be here.”
“Yeah I do.”
“Please enlighten me,” Batman prods impatiently.
You can tell he is mad you were here and are not listening to him. Too bad, Bats, you think. Gotham is your home, too, and you aren’t going to let it fall into the hands of some crazy clown or any other criminal.
“But before you tell me that, tell me what makes you qualified to be out here.”
“Look at me. Armoured uniform, tear gas, I’m a CCPD jacket short of official.”
“You’re CCPD?”
“I was. SWAT officer for five years after I got out of the Army. But I grew up here and I’m not letting this city go without a fight.”
“Why this fight? The one criminal we haven’t been able to stop for almost a decade?”
“Because...” You look up at him and smile. “I know who he is.”
✯✯✯✯✯
“Thank you, Batman,” Commissioner Gordon says, shaking Batman’s hand. “We’ll get him in solitary.”
“Thanks, Jim,” Batman replies.
“Who’s your new helper? Everyone at the station is talking about the reaper that popped up and knows how to take them all down.”
“An old friend. Try to keep them in a while longer this time, will you?”
Commissioner Gordon turns around to see Batman is gone. “We’ll try,” he mumbles into the dark.
✯✯✯✯✯
The next night, Batman is gone. You don’t so much as see his shadow all night. There is only one criminal out; maybe they’re all on vacation, too. Killer Croc used Arkham’s sewer system to escape and pop up downtown. It was a long and tiresome fight, but you got him on the ground, and the GCPD took it from there. You finally reach the rooftop, preparing to cross them to go home, but don't make it far. Hitting the roof, you feel pain shoot through your ribs. After running your hand across the area, your skin is stained red. Great, you think.
“What were you thinking?!” Batman reprimands you as he appears and kneels beside you, pulling items from his utility belt.
“Mostly about what I was going to eat for dinner,” you joke, hissing when the antiseptic hits your skin.
“I’m sorry,” Batman says quietly. “Are you okay?”
“Peachy. At least it wasn’t my neck this time.”
“I told you not to use your belt to traverse the jungle gym,” Batman mumbles.
“So, you do remember me,” you say happily.
“You’re still an idiot with a death wish.”
“And you’re still Mother Hen Bruce.”
“This’ll help for now,” he says, helping you stand up and hooking his arm under your shoulders. “But I’m taking you back to the cave to get you checked out.”
“Didn’t do enough checking out in high school?” you slur before passing out.
“Alfred, we’re inbound,” he says into his microphone.
“Glad to see blood loss doesn’t dampen her sarcasm,” Alfred responds, “I’ll be ready.”
✯✯✯✯✯
“What did you mean you know who he is?” Bruce asks.
You blink several times to make sure you aren’t imagining him. He looks different than the last time you saw him. Without the mask, he’s more like the Bruce you grew up with, just older and barely holding Gotham together.
“You got hot,” you say without thinking.
“Thanks. Now tell me what you meant.”
“That I know who he is?” you clarify, standing up.
“Please stay down,” Alfred chides as he returns with tea.
“Thanks, Alfred. Good to see you again.” You smile as you accept the tea.
“You as well. Now take it easy. You should be battle ready in a day or two but that’s only if you rest properly.”
“No, you will not be battle ready. There is no more battle for you,” Bruce adds.
“You know I’m not going to listen and if you tell me no I’ll just do it myself.”
“We’ll have this conversation later. For now, tell me what you know about Joker.”
“Okay. He’s my uncle. Like twice removed, or-“
“There’s no way you’re related to that monster,” Bruce interjects.
“I’m not, really. We’re related by marriage. His aunt or somebody else married my cousin and I happened to meet him a few times. Fate, I guess.”
“Do you know his name?”
“No. Everyone in the family called him J. I thought his name started with a J but see now that it’s because he’s cuckoo for cocoa puffs.”
Bruce chuckles and shakes his head before turning serious again. “Are you really okay?”
“I’m great. Thanks for the assist.”
“I’m glad you’re back. Even if you are endangering yourself and ignoring everything I say.”
“Me too.”
“But Alfred’s right. You need some rest. We can finish this conversation later.”
“I can go home,” you say, standing up.
You stumble slightly, and Bruce catches you, holding you upright against him.
“Can you?” he asks, the ghost of a smile appearing on his face.
✯✯✯✯✯
“I think I found something,” you cheer when Bruce answers the phone.
“Where are you?”
“My apartment. It’s by Sacred Heart.”
The line goes silent, so you say Bruce’s name.
“You’re living by the Narrows? I thought you just went out there to fight.”
“It’s a fine building. I’m not in the Narrows.”
“No but you’re between Crime Alley and Arkham Island. You need to find a new place. Now.”
“I can’t afford anything else, Bruce. It was this or Slaughter Swamp.”
“Pack your essentials. I’ll be there in twenty.”
He hangs up, leaving you with a dozen questions. However, you know he means what he says, so you pack the stuff you can’t live without and are ready to go when he shows up twenty minutes later.
“You’re staying at Wayne Manor until we find you a new place.”
“That is not necessary.”
“It’s not just that this is close to the Narrows. We’re going after Joker, and I need to know you’re safe.”
“We’re not going after Joker,” you correct, “we’re finishing this.”
✯✯✯✯✯
“Bruce, I can’t find a marriage certificate. They may not have been married; maybe they were just living together or something and didn’t want to explain it to a kid,” you admit, disappointed in your lack of findings.
“It’s okay. We will find something. And if we don’t, we can do it another way,” he assures.
✯✯✯✯✯
“This is the fourth Arkham breakout in as many weeks. When do you sleep?” you ask.
Alfred laughs faintly through the communications system.
“During Wayne Enterprises meetings, usually,” Bruce answers.
“I got one. Going dark,” you alert before jumping to meet Captain Boomerang.
After a short fight which results in your earpiece breaking, Captain Boomerang is unconscious, and you prepare to call Gordon.
“Ha ha ha ha,” an eerie voice cackles behind you.
You freeze in place before turning slowly and coming face-to-face with the Joker. He knocks your helmet off in one swift move, and your face is now visible.
“I remember you. My aunt married your second cousin. Horrible family you have. Or should I say had? Ha ha ha ha.”
“What do you want?”
“Is a family reunion not enough? No, I guess you’re right. I mean, marriages end so are we even related anymore?”
“We never were.”
“Oh, that’s where you’re wrong, Reaper! You know everyone calls you that, don’t ya? Personally, I think it’s a bit morbid but to each their own. I also heard from a little bird that you’re working with the big, bad bat. I had such great hopes for you, and you let me down.”
“What do you want?” you repeat slowly.
“To be family again,” he answers, smiling as he runs his fingers over your face and hair.
“What about Harley? Isn’t she your family? You were all she could talk about the other night.”
“Not anymore. She settled for some used piece on her Suicide Suckers. But me and you? Me and you could be the dream team. The family to end all families.”
“I don’t want to be part of your family.”
“When I found out Harley was a harlot, you know what I said? I said I’d peel off her skin and put it on a new body. But I can’t imagine those words coming from her. So, from now on…” he moves his hand to rest in front of your throat as his smile drops. “If Harley wouldn’t say it, you don’t say it.”
✯✯✯✯✯
“Alfred, where is she?” Bruce asks.
“Toxic Acres. She’s still not responding,” Alfred responds, watching your tracker blink in the same place for the fifth consecutive minute.
“I’m going after her,” Bruce declares.
“Be careful, Master Bruce.” Bruce doesn’t respond, and Alfred mutes the private connection as he watches Bruce’s tracker move toward yours. “And don’t do anything you’ll regret.”
✯✯✯✯✯
“You’re making a mistake, J,” you hiss, the pressure of Joker’s hand on your throat making it hard, but not impossible, to breathe.
“No, they made a mistake,” he argues, moving his hand slightly as he steps back to look at you.
“Who?”
“Your family. All families. Everyone who treats people like outsiders.”
“You mean to tell me you’re doing this - all of this - because you never felt like you belonged in a family?”
“No!” Joker yells, leaning his weight against your throat as he smiles in your face. “Because no family has ever accepted me. I know I don’t belong, but everyone expects families to lie, right? Especially their own, but no, poor Joker always got told the truth! ‘You’re too strange,’ ‘You’re dangerous,’ ‘The kids are scared of you,’ yet no one ever offered to help me fit in.”
You raise your hands to his arm and claw at his skin, growing desperate for air as he rants. He looks over when your hits grow weaker and pulls his hand back. You fall to the ground, wheezing, as you try to take deep breaths.
Holding your neck, you look up at him and ask, “Then what do you want?”
He kneels in front of you and holds a knife out in his hand. “I want you to find a family and make a Joker-sized hole for me to fill.”
Shaking your head, you argue, “I’m not like you. I won’t do that, J.”
He cocks his head as his smile falls. “Harley wouldn’t say that, would she? And, besides, you’re more like me than you think, aren’t you? And what’s more interesting is that I think you know it. We’re the same, you and I, whether you like it or not.” The knife is raised to your throat as he threatens, “Do it, or I will make another hole in your family.”
“Another?” you ask.
The blade presses against your skin, and you close your eyes, unwilling to give him the theatrics and attention he so desperately seeks. A grappling hook sounds somewhere above you just before the blade is removed from your throat. Joker’s words echo in your head, and your eyes stay closed. Someone gently touches your neck and your face, but you don’t open your eyes, in case it’s him trying to trick you. He does that; you remember that too well.
An arm loops around your waist as a hand pulls your arms over broad shoulders. Only when you’re flying through the air and clinging to him are you ready to admit that Bruce is saving you. Opening your eyes, you see Wayne Tower in the distance. You tighten your arms around Bruce’s neck, and his hand squeezes your waist in response. He lands on the roof of Wayne Manor and rushes into the Batcave.
“What did he do to you?” Bruce asks as he sets you on a medical exam table. The same table you sat on when he saved you after the fight with Killer Croc.
Bruce tries to step back, but you cling to him. He’s the only family you have left, and Joker opened an old wound with his talk of carving a hole in a family to fill himself. That’s what he tried to do with your family, but when he still didn’t fit, he kept carving.
“Please don’t leave me,” you whisper into Bruce’s suit.
Bruce’s arms wrap around you, pulling you to the edge of the table as he cups your head to his shoulder.
“I’m right here,” he soothes. “Not going anywhere.”
He holds you for longer than you realize; time slows down in Bruce’s arms. When you pull back, he cups your face in his hands and looks at you intently.
“Want to talk about it?” he asks.
“Not right now,” you whisper.
“That’s okay,” he promises, nodding.
“The guest bedroom has been prepared and dinner is awaiting you, Master Bruce,” Alfred calls, briefly appearing in the doorway of the Batcave.
“Can we talk about it in the morning?” you ask.
“Of course. Whenever you’re ready. And you’re staying here tonight.”
You don’t argue, nodding as you stand and follow Bruce upstairs. He shows you to a guest room with clothes, toiletries, and more books than you can count. Telling you to use whatever you want; he leaves to change before meeting you for dinner.
When you enter the bathroom to change into the clothes you found in the closet, you see yourself in the mirror. Mostly, you see the red line running across your neck. Joker has hurt more than enough people, you decide, and you meant what you told Bruce; you plan to finish this.
✯✯✯✯✯
Bruce sits up suddenly. The sun is coming through the cracks in his curtains, but something feels off. He pulls a shirt over his head and walks down the hall, knocking on the door to the guest room where you’re staying. After a moment of no answer, he lets himself in. There’s a note on the bed in your handwriting.
I can’t let him do it again, especially not to you. Please stay home tonight and let me finish this fight. I should have done it ten years ago, but I was scared and ran. This is my chance to make everything right. Please forgive me.
Bruce takes a deep breath, suppressing his urge to punch a hole in the wall. Alfred wouldn’t appreciate another one. He rereads the note, then goes downstairs for breakfast like everything is fine.
“Where is our guest?” Alfred asks when Bruce enters the dining room. “Resting, I hope.”
“She’s gone. She left in the middle of the night to, quote, finish a fight like she should have done ten years ago.”
Alfred’s eyes widen as he stops moving trays onto the table. “You’re going after her, then?”
“No, Alfred, I am not.”
Bruce picks up the paper, as nonchalant as ever, and more convincing than when he turns on his Brucie Wayne charm.
“Why ever not, sir?”
“She asked me not to. And after her reaction to me last night, I’m inclined to listen to her.”
“You can’t be serious.”
Bruce drops the paper and looks at Alfred. “I am going to do exactly what she said.” When the paper covers his face again, he adds, “For a while.”
“Good man,” Alfred mutters, returning to serving breakfast.
✯✯✯✯✯
Realistically, you know that breaking into Arkham and executing a patient isn’t the best idea, but it would solve the problem. However, there’s the downside of life in prison for first-degree murder that you’d have to contend with. Bruce would surely visit you, but you don’t want to lose him before you get him back.
Perched on a rooftop, you watch Arkham and hope your trap is being laid as planned. The security lights blink on seconds before the alarm sounds. If Arkham Asylum is good for anything, it’s the consistency of frequent breakouts. No matter who breaks out tonight, you’re prepared. All you have to do is convince them to lay a trap for Joker, convincing him that you killed someone, and then you can pounce. Watching the alley below you, you furrow your brows as you lean forward.
“Catwoman?” you ask incredulously.
She looks up, tilting her head at the sight of you. “Reaper?” she asks, sounding far too excited.
“What are you doing here?”
“What do you think I’m doing?”
“Thieving, I presume?” She nods, and you lower yourself onto a fire escape before jumping to meet her. “There’s nothing here worth stealing.”
“Maybe.”
You clench your hands into fists and look down the alley.
“I think the better question is what are you doing here, Reaper? I’m not exactly in your demographic.”
Under your mask, you press your lips together and consider confiding in her. She cares about Batman as far as you can tell, so if you tell her Joker is planning to kill him (though, in reality, Bruce is his likely target), she may be willing to help.
“Batman dump you? He does that,” Catwoman hums.
“What? No, no, we’re not together like that.”
“Yet,” Catwoman interjects.
“Look, Joker is going to try to kill someone that I love. He’s already ruined my family forever.”
“You just moved here, who could you possibly love here? I thought I fell fast.”
“I grew up here, and-“
Your mind races as you remember that you haven’t been seen with Bruce since returning, but Joker has been out since then. Pulling the earpiece from your pocket, you hope someone is in the Batcave.
“Hello?” you ask into it, desperate and terrified for your family. “Take whatever you want,” you tell Catwoman when you don’t get an answer, “heck, take something for me too. But if you see Batman, tell him I’m looking for him?”
“Sure.” You move toward the end of the alley before Catwoman asks, “What should we call you?”
Smiling, you answer, “Reaper is growing on me.”
“Good luck, Reaper.”
You could have taken a grappling hook before you left Wayne Manor last night, but you were more concerned with Bruce’s safety than yours. Getting off of Arkham Island and into Gotham Heights will take too long on foot.
“Batman?” you ask, trying the comm again. “Anybody?”
“You called?”
You slide to a stop, nearly falling over, when you see Batman perched on a roof, looming like a gargoyle. He spreads his cape as he moves to the road before you. Looking down at you, though you can’t see his eyes, you know he’s trying to ensure you’re safe and unharmed.
“He’s going after Barbara. I thought he meant you, but he was out when I saw Barbara.”
“I’ll call Gordon. We need to get to Gotham Heights.”
“We’ll never make it in time. The alarm sounded twenty minutes ago.”
Bruce’s head turns toward you as he presses a button on his utility belt. The Batmobile turns a corner, coming to a stop beside you. Your eyes widen as the top opens, jumping in the passenger seat as you look at everything in awe.
“Barbara is stronger, and knows more than you think, but she can’t hold him off forever.”
You nod, prepared to do whatever you have to do. Even if it means making Bruce hate you.
“And I forgive you. Whatever you do, I understand,” Bruce says quietly. “Just- just remember that your actions affect more people than just you.”
✯✯✯✯✯
It’s a trap. The driveway beside Barbara’s place is decorated like the cookout where you met Joker.
“Go check on Babs, I’m right behind you,” you tell Batman.
He hesitates, noticing exactly where your focus is, before tapping your shoulder and running toward Barbara’s door. When Batman is out of sight, Joker’s laugh surrounds you.
“Did you do it?” Joker asks, stepping out of the shadows.
“No.”
“Whyever not?” he asks with a laugh.
“Because I’m not a killer. We are not the same.”
“Come over here,” he demands. You listen despite your body’s urging to leave. “And give me a real reason,” he adds when you stop across a picnic table from him.
“That is the real answer. I will not do to another family what you did to mine. I’m not a killer.”
“Now, now, now, that’s not true.”
His eyes are fixed on your mask, likely imagining your furrowed brows and scared eyes. “Is the mask necessary, Reaper? We know one another. It’s just family here.”
You swallow as you rip the mask off, levelling your gaze on Joker, determined not to show him how much he is affecting you.
“If you hurt her, I will end you.”
Joker flaps a dismissive hand. “She’s fine. I just needed a reason to celebrate, but you didn’t keep your end of the bargain.”
“I’m not-“
“A killer, yes, so you say. However, there’s a family out there that begs to differ.”
You lick your lips, unsure how he knows this. The record was redacted and eventually destroyed, so no one outside of your team at the time should know.
Joker’s laugh draws your attention back to him. “You are a killer. Just like me.”
Shaking your head, you flinch when Joker slaps his hands onto the table, leaning forward to get closer to you.
“Joseph,” Joker whispers, smiling widely at your surprised movement.
Someone screams in the distance, and you remember your promise: to protect your home, no matter the cost. Unholstering the gun you hadn’t carried in years, you hold it to Joker’s forehead.
“Do it,” he begs, leaning against the barrel. “Show them how alike we are.”
Your arm shakes as you fight to do it. With a finger on the trigger, Joker should be gone already, but you can’t do it.
Lowering the gun, you sigh, preparing for Joker’s next idea or a surprise dose of his laughing toxin. He watches you until he reaches for something. Before you can lunge forward to stop him, a shot rings out in the Gotham night. You hear it as Joker jerks to the side, slumping to the ground. Turning toward the right, you search the skyline for the shooter. You see a familiar salute and laugh to yourself as the silhouette disappears.
“Reaper!” Batman yells, rushing toward you. He slows as he sees you standing over Joker.
There’s a note, half blown apart. He took credit. You laugh again, oblivious to Batman’s concerned gaze on the back of your head. The laughter quickly turns to hiccups as you fight to remain composed. You walked out of Wayne Manor prepared to assassinate Joker. Now that you have essentially been an accomplice to his death and reminded of your worst mistake, you’re falling apart.
Bruce whispers your name, a hand on your arm as he turns you away. He raises a hand to your jaw as the first tear rolls down your cheek.
“I killed him,” you admit.
“No, you didn’t. That shot was too far away, no one will blame you.”
“I killed Joseph,” you repeat. “I didn’t see him, and there was so much fog and- I shouldn’t have taken the shot.”
“What are you talking about?”
“I left the Army and joined SWAT because I killed a civilian. I don’t know how Joker knew, but he was right. I am a killer.”
“Hey, hey.” When you don’t respond, Batman summons the Batmobile, whispering to Gordon on the phone as he helps you into the passenger seat.
Once you’re in Wayne Manor, dressed in a pair of sweatpants and one of Bruce’s shirts, he pulls you into his arms.
“You’re not like Joker, and you’re not a killer. Friendly fire is a terrible thing, but it’s not your fault. You can’t keep blaming yourself for that. Saving people has its costs, and if I could take the guilt from you, I would.”
“I don’t even know how it happened,” you confess, “I dream about it all the time, but I don’t remember actually pulling the trigger.”
“You may never know. But either way, you can forgive yourself and move on.”
Wiping under your eyes, you lean against Bruce’s chest as you ask, “What did Gordon say? How’s Babs?””
“Their ballistics team is examining the velocity and angle to find where the shot came from. Barbara didn’t even know anything was happening, she’s fine.”
“The roof of Verdant in The Narrows,” you whisper, laying an open hand over Bruce’s heart.
“That’s too far for a shot like that.”
“Not for Army snipers.”
“Friend of yours?”
“Used to be,” you shrug before adding, “Lawton started killing for money, and I couldn’t support that.”
“Wait,” Bruce interjects, pushing you back slightly, ducking to look into your eyes. “You’re telling me that Deadshot just killed Joker? For free?”
“He doesn’t do anything for free,” you answer, smiling. “But I didn’t pay him if that’s what you think. Besides, he left a calling card of sorts.”
“Not at all. Batman will call Gordon tomorrow and let him know.”
“What’s Batman doing tonight?”
“He’s on vacation,” Bruce sighs, leaning his forehead against yours. “And Bruce Wayne is catching up with an old friend.”
Smiling, you turn sideways to press your chest against Bruce, laying your arms over his shoulders.
“I think that sounds like a great night.”
✯✯✯✯✯
“I found something,” Bruce says, removing his cowl as you enter the Batcave.
“A life?” you joke.
“Ha. No, I had a friend of mine go searching for that destroyed Army record.”
“Why?” you ask quietly, wringing your fingers together.
“Because you didn’t kill Joseph. Your gun never went off, and the shot came from a different direction with a much higher velocity. This looked like sniper.”
“You think it was Lawton?”
“Wouldn’t be surprising.” Bruce tilts your head toward him and looks you in the eye to add, “But the important thing is that you have no reason to keep carrying that burden.”
“Thank you. I don’t know what to say.”
“Come on patrol with me.”
“I thought you didn’t want me to get hurt.”
“You won’t. Not with me around.”
✯✯✯✯✯
“Hey, Bats.”
“Catwoman,” Batman answers.
“Reaper was looking for you a few nights ago.”
“Yeah, we ran into each other. Thanks, though.”
“She said you weren’t together like we were, but I find that very hard to believe.”
“Give them back,” you say, surprising both Catwoman and Batman.
“Give what back?” she parrots.
You hold your hand out. “The pearl necklace and earrings you stole. They’re not worth anything to the woman, but they’re sentimental.”
Catwoman huffs, pulling a small bag from her pouch and tossing it to you. “I chose them for you anyway.”
“What?”
“You said to steal something for you too.”
“I thought my best friend was about to get murdered, I didn’t mean it!”
“And did you mean what you said about not being with Bats here?” She places a hand on her hip, and you take the opportunity to look at Batman before answering.
“He’s just not my type,” you answer, shrugging one shoulder.
You see his jaw twitch before he nods his farewell to Catwoman.
“I didn’t mean it,” you whisper as you walk past him. “And we’ve got a crocodile to catch.”
Batman sighs. “Welcome to Gotham.”
✯✯✯✯✯
“Whose are they?” Bruce asks as you examine the pearl jewellery.
“Mine,” you answer, not looking at him. “What are the chances she’d use my permission to thieve to rob me?”
“Not bad with Sel- Catwoman.”
“Selina Kyle, yeah, I know.”
“Sentimental, huh?”
You turn toward Bruce, passing him the necklace.
“I told your mom that I liked her pearls, like five months before she was killed, and the next day she surprised me. She picked me up from school and told me we were going shopping. They’re the cheapest ones the store had, but I’ve loved them ever since because they came from someone I loved and… I guess they made me feel a bit more like her, and she was amazing.”
When you look back at Bruce, he’s still holding the necklace, but his gaze is on you. He sets the necklace down, stepping toward you. Gripping your waist, he pulls you against him with a wide smile.
“You’re amazing too.”
“Not like her.”
“There’s no one quite like her. But she loved you too, more than you know. Actually, she thought we were going to get married,” Bruce adds, nudging his nose against yours.
“I did too,” you whisper.
Bruce kisses you quickly, pulling back to gauge your reaction.
“Based on the newspapers, I thought you’d be better than that,” you tease.
Bruce clicks his tongue before pulling you into another kiss. While he takes your breath, he fills you with love and hope. His hands keep you as close as possible, one sliding up to hold your head as he deepens the kiss, whispering something against your lips.
“Wait,” you mumble, moving your hands from his jaw to his chest. “What did you say?”
Bruce smirks, the charm that no one gets to see any more on display. “That I love you.”
Your eyes widen, and you grip his shoulders as you rise to kiss him, informing him that you feel the same. “I love you more,” you say against his lips, melting into him as you become one.
“My mom would want you to have her pearls,” Bruce whispers, rubbing his thumb in large sweeping motions against your upper hip. “And she’d want us to see where this goes.”
“Your mom was very smart,” you muse, putty in Bruce’s hands as he moves to the couch, tugging you into his lap.
“Did you love my mom enough to take her last name eventually?”
“This is more important – I love you enough.”
“Finally!” Alfred exclaims as he walks in with a tray of tea and biscuits. “It is about time you officially join the family and take the name.”

Meet Niki - A Stardew Valley Tribune Journalist — adds a new NPC who works for the Stardew Valley Tribune and writes the articles that appear in vanilla, as well as adding a few more. Romanceable
Mouse Friends in the Forest — Possibly the cutest mod I've ever come across. Adds mice around the forest to interact with. You may find them... familiar
Ranger Taro — adds a new NPC, a new location, heart events, and lore to the world
Stoffton — another large expansion, adding two new large maps, thirty-nine locations, eleven shops, forty-eight NPCs (at least fourteen of which are romanceable), and a progressive storyline. Still in beta

Bigger Fridges — Increases the size of the fridge from 36 slots to 70.

Cornucopia - Artisan Machines — Similar to PPJA Artisan Valley, this adds ten new artisan machines, over eight new goods, four new special orders, and vanilla-style balance.

Lumisteria Progress Toward Perfection — Receive letters and gifts (with bits of added lore) as you progress towards perfection.
