The Pursuit of Knowledge Without Wisdom or Virtue: An Intellectual Tragedy
Today’s topic is one of those that more often comes out during Sangha meetings or in lay discussions: knowledge, when isolated from wisdom (sophia / σοφία) and virtue (aretḗ / ἀρετή), is no longer a guarantor of human flourishing but may become a tool of hubris (hybris — ὕβρις) and ruin. Sometimes, the bravest thing you can do is to admit that the life you're living is not the one you truly want. It takes strength to look at your world — your habits, your choices, your surroundings — and say, "This isn't it." But that moment of honesty is where transformation begins.
Be brave enough to find the life you want.
This means listening to your inner voice — the one you've probably ignored for far too long. It means asking hard questions:
Am I truly happy?
Am I fulfilled?
Is this the life I imagined for myself, or one I've settled into out of fear, pressure, or convenience?
Be courageous enough to chase it.
Once you see the life you want, the next step is even harder — going after it. That might mean walking away from comfort, familiar faces, or old patterns. It might mean facing failure, uncertainty, and judgment. But chasing your true life, despite the risks, is how freedom is born.
And if you’ve lost yourself somewhere along the way…
Start over.
There is no shame in beginning again. In fact, there is power in it. You are not starting from scratch — you are starting from experience, from lessons learned, from wisdom gained.
Love yourself the way you were always meant to.
Speak kindly to yourself. Forgive yourself for what you didn’t know before. Honor your growth. Nourish your soul. You deserve the same love and compassion you give to others — maybe even more.
You’re allowed to rewrite your story.
You’re allowed to change direction.
You’re allowed to start over.
And most importantly — you’re allowed to be happy.

im back to dcst fixation with the new season so im rewatching. i remembered how much i like senku's principle of how humanities, arts and sciences aren't so far apart. i like that he thinks of course it more logical to care for people and that no matter how weird you are, science has room for you. it's curiosity for curiosity's sake. a different kind of greed.

also, since tumblr won’t let you post more than one video unless they’re links or embeds, here’s a link to another clip i posted that adds a bit more context to the scene :)

…man it still pisses me off that Team Flash had the drug that could knock a speedster out starting in the SECOND SEASON and never ONCE did they use it on Barry for Barry’s benefit. “Sorry Barry, we don’t have an anaesthetic or painkillers that work on you you’ll just have to suffer through this insanely painful process/literal surgery/injury.” KNOCK HIM OUT.

“Compassion is an unstable emotion. It needs to be translated into action, or it withers. The question of what to do with the feelings that have been aroused, the knowledge that has been communicated. If one feels that there is nothing 'we' can do -- but who is that 'we'? -- and nothing 'they' can do either -- and who are 'they' -- then one starts to get bored, cynical, apathetic.”

One of the biggest mistakes you can make is assuming that because someone knows one thing, they must know another.
In reality, someone can spend their whole life becoming an expert in something, and not a know many things about it that you consider basic. Even the obvious things must be said to be known.
When you give yourself and others the grace to not know, knowing becomes so much easier. We can ask freely - and be wrong openly - when we know we will be met with a guiding hand of love, and not with the slap of judgment.
