Okay, so we know that foreshadowing is a very common thing in Steven Universe.

It happens even in the littlest ways, like background details that often go unnoticed.

Some of us have noticed that Lapis and Peridot's gems have already appeared two times in the background.

This is the first time it happened. Notice that the third picture is Ruby and Sapphire. (romantic love)

This is the second time it happened. The third picture here is a portrait of a person, a mysterious figure. (fusion?)

I'm not posting this so I can say "Lapidot is confirmed!!1!1!" or anything like that. I'm just pointing this out and trying to analyse it in case it means something. What do you guys think?

I just realised something...

This picture of Greg's aunt and uncle, which appears alongside Lapis and Peridot several times and that we've all speculated is foreshadowing Lapidot.

"My aunt and uncle had a great love for aviation and each other. They cherished the years they spent together, and they held on to every belonging they ever owned..."

This is what Greg said about the picture way back in "Space Race".

And now Lapis and Peridot have actually been flying together!

From the way things seem in the movie, Lapis and Peridot seem to have worked out some of the more toxic parts of their relationship, so hopefully now Lapis has moved past the trauma that came with Malachite and her relationship with Peridot is actually healthy vs before when they were in the barn bc let's face it, Lapis was SUPER toxic and was low-key abusing Peridot(don't come at me lapidot shippers, you know it's true)

SO here’s what the plan most likely is

change your mind (battle of heart and mind) was made for the intention that IF CN cancels their show, there is a good-enough ending to finish it off, a LOT of plot points were tied up here, but they DID leave out some things because they wanted at least some things to be able to surprise us with (for example, we’ve never seen peri nor bismuth fuse, and no lapidot fusion/lapis with anyone besides jasper fusion has happened either). that being said:

there was some foreshadowing in escapism (most likely) and probably in the comics too (for example: perrie getting percy’s necklace thing out of the lake is probably foreshadowing to lapis getting peridots limb enhancers) in escapism there was a melon are, which is most likely the “true” ending to SU. my idea is that homeworld gems will fight over steven, and he’ll have to sort that out.

as for the fact that there’s other 2 seasons? who knows. most likely, lots, and lots of character growth and development. id like to point out that both lapis/jasper and lapis/peridot have some issues to sort out. i wouldn't be surprised if they focused on those things, as well as pink pearl ! she’s been trapped in her on body for well over 7,000 years ! she’s probably got some things to sort out as well, and don’t forget that we haven’t heard her general backstory yet either. there’s always still a chance she and our pearl were swapped, and don’t forget the jades ! i really hope we’ll see them again.

What the New Crystal Gems parallels/foreshadows and how it could relate to Lapis and Peridot’s fusion and relationship in the future.

Lapis and Peridot represents Steven's gem half and human half respectively, while Connie represents Steven becoming himself like at the end of CYM.

The old car wash sign being "removed" and being replaced with a collaborative "Meep-morp" was foreshadowing Steven's gem removal while the new car wash sign foreshadows him 'reuniting' with his gem to become himself. (Like with how Lapis left Peridot and Lars left Sadie both because of the Diamonds and how Ruby left Sapphire.)

Peridot tries to change Lapis' mind by making her switch to try to be another person, but the fight is eventually resolved by Connie/Steven and she makes them "fuse" to become themselves. They then work together to complete a brand-new car-wash sign.

That parallels when the Diamonds try to change Steven's mind by pushing him to be a matriarch (Pink Diamond) even though Steven himself doesn't want to. He wants to follow his own path and just be himself.

Since I think that there could be still a LOT of unresolved/un-decoded foreshadowing in a filler-like episode or other heavy-foreshadowing moment (like with Onion Gang and CPH), I wonder if this (and other episodes that just foreshadow/parallel CYM and nothing else, such as Escapism) could be also foreshadowing future plot points for S6 and beyond.

The New Crystal Gems still could be foreshadowing more future plot points that haven't happened or been revealed yet like how Garnet's Universe foreshadowed the confirmation of Garnet being a fusion (blue and red flowers like Ruby and Sapphire), Lars' death and revival (the fox dying and being brought back to life), the Rose Quartz/PD reveal in a Single Pale Rose (The gem in the episode changes it's position in a similar way to what PD's gem did), the removal of Steven’s gem in Change Your Mind  when Ringo eats Steven and Garnet's picture, Sunstone by Garnet's pink transformation and corrupted gems being healed in CYM with the fox thing foreshadowing the same thing)

Connie becoming Steven: Stevonnie? 

Lapis and Peridot: Their fusion, which I will call 'Turquoise' for now. 

Pumpkin: Escapism could be a call-back to this with Steven possessing a vegetable to learn how his own "identity crisis" unfolds, or Pumpkin could also be a subtle nod to the corrupted gems. 

The original "Car Wash" sign being destroyed: potential foreshadowing of Turquoise (accidentally?) shattering/poofing a gem or destroying a ship by mistake?

The only downside to this theory is that Lapis and Peridot could of already told Steven the truth about their little argument sometime after CYM (if they haven't already before that) offscreen with Steven telling them about how he related to it. 

It could potentially ruin both of the character's pacing and growth and development if Steven and Lapis and Peridot decide to discuss the matter offscreen, especially if it's discussed during the possible timeskip where everybody with parallel problems to Steven and the Diamonds gets magically 'redeemed' in s6.

Here's my loose theory and/or prediction for how the future arc of how Lapis and Peridot’s fusion reveal is going to unfold:

After Peridot is rescued from another abusive brawn and brains fusion with Jasper (which I will nickname Unakite for now) Peridot is encouraged by Stevonnie (and possibly Garnet) in a fusion training session to try and get the hang of fusion. After some talking and disagreement from both Peridot and Lapis over if they should fuse or not, they finally agree to it. Problems with their fusion then arise (this could also make a nice call-back to Mindful Education with Lapis and Peridot's butterflies being the conflict) and it's only Stevonnie, Peridot and Lapis (and maybe Garnet) fighting whatever the antagonist or conflict is (in this case, it's the butterflies, but it could just be a regular antagonist). Peridot then fuses with Lapis and then their fusion seems to be stable at first and then gets out of control due to not being calm enough.

As a result of this, the new fusion accidentally poofs/shatters a gem or destroys a ship due to her craziness, which causes the both of them to unfuse due to them not being able to communicate their ideas and plans properly. Steven (or Stevonnie) then steps in and says something along the lines of: "Like Garnet said, just be calm and just try to communicate. Also, please don't try and think of the butterflies that get in your way!" They then try this and then perma-fuse into the blue-green gem which is now known as Turquoise. Of course if this does-in-fact happen in the plot, it will most likely happen when:

-Peridot and Lapis have enough screentime and development so that they don't get left out -Peridot and Lapis have fused with other CGs -Peridot and Lapis have developed some kind of romantic relationship or attraction to one another -Lapis' relationship with Peridot has some sort of redemption arc.

And that about covers my predictions for Lapis and Peridot's fusion and how it relates to CYM.

EDIT: Since the removal of the car wash sign and the breaking of the tape recorder that Steven gave Peridot also parallel each other too, it makes me wonder if both of these things are going to foreshadow the exact same plot point for  how Turquoise's’ destruction is going to play out in the potential Lapis and Peridot’s fusion arc.

DIALOGUE PREDICTION:

Its gonna be the Paulette and Percy scene from Camp Pining Hearts. 

CPH:

Paulette: I don't care that you are on the yellow team Percy, WE CAN MAKE THIS WORK!

Percy: Its the color war Paulette, DOESN’T THAT MEAN ANYTHING TO YOU?

Lapis and Peridot:

Lapis: I don't care about (something, idk) Peridot, WE CAN MAKE THIS WORK!

Peridot: Its the fight for Earth Lapis, our home! DOESN’T THAT MEAN ANYTHING TO YOU?

(hopefully the answer is a yes or will eventually lead to a yes)

SU is good with foreshadowing, this might be it, idk

The song “Love Like You” fits the situation TOO WELL for it to just be a COINCIDENCE. (im not saying the song is about them as a whole, just that the lyrics fit very well with whats going on with them. the song is meant for the show as a whole, not just Lapis and Peri lol)

Yeaah. I get frustrated in SU fandom (a medium with mostly female main characters, incidentally*) especially because Jasper, Bismuth, and Amethyst get so much hate and guess what? They’re not the standard slender femmes. Jasper and Bismuth are subject to a fantastic amount of butchphobia, especially from guys who consider themselves “woke” and make jokes about them being unreasonably angry. And that’s especially suspect with Bismuth because she’s *coded* black*. The same guys who, incidentally, think Lapis is a poor pretty uwu delicate water angel who doesn’t want to hurt anyone honest uwu (nevermind, of course, that I think RS?, has gone on the record saying that Lapis wanted to take her problems out on someone and Jasper was convenient. Jasper was a) much less powerful than Lapis, b) subject to months of emotional abuse at Lapis’ hands. But, of course, it’s Jasper that’s the abusive brute and Jasper who’s painted by fanfic authors as an animal who deserves Lapis’ abuse and shattering at her hands). When a slender jasper turned up on the show, Jasper fans were told to stop liking the original because Skinny Jasper is the good jasper, even though she appeared for like a minute and we know nothing about her. When Topaz appeared, we were told that we finally have a "nice" butch to like and can stop liking Jasper and Bismuth now. And so on. 

And Amethyst? She’s a tiny little chubby who is coded Latina, and lapidot fans rip into her and her fans all the time because she’s “fat” and gross and totally doesn’t deserve to be shipped with Peridot. Up until I turned off anon asks a few months ago, I was still getting “kill yourself” messages from angry lapidot fans for daring to like Amethyst. And, of course, if anyone vents frustration about Lapis getting away with things (abusing Jasper for months even though Lapis herself is more powerful, creating a living situation where Peridot did not feel safe enough to express herself or thoughts she felt might incur Lapis’ wrath) and her fans being assholes, we’re all suddenly just mad because she’s ~*~depressed~*~ and secretly we all just hate women.

So, yeah. Woman-majority mediums has their problems, too.

Anyway! I think you’ll like B5, too. Just some notes: It’s not DS9 and was intended to be a novel for television, so it has a lot of novel-variety overwriting in the dialogue. I think it’s fun, though, and enjoy rewatching to pick up all the foreshadowing. Also, B5 really didn’t make a whole *thing* about its same-sex representation the way Dax’s ex-wife did when that episode came out (or, say, evil!Kira falling into Evil Bisexual tropes). It’s just really kinda subtle and you get whammied with the admission in season 3 if you weren’t already open to the growing relationship between those characters. And, of course “you’re just a nice couple on honeymoon” said to a couple of guys going spying to another planet. So I thought that was nice. And the science felt a lot more natural to me. 

Anyway, I love B5. I like Star Trek, too, but B5 filled in all the little cracks in my soul when I was a lost, angry, hurt little late-teenager/young adult and I’ll always love it for that. To quote something I needed back then: “Babylon 5 was the last of the Babylon stations. There would never be another. It changed the future and it changed us. It taught us that we have to create the future or others will do it for us. It showed us that we have to care for one another, because if we don't, who will? And that true strength sometimes comes from the most unlikely places. Mostly, though, I think it gave us hope, that there can always be new beginnings. Even for people like us.”

* Although boy is it telling that most of the male fans all glom onto Steven and the minor male characters/townies or create male gems outright rather than bother with writing the gems, who are generally coded female and stated by RS to be nonbinary women. 

** I would argue that Jasper is coded some variety of minority, but I’ve seen crewniverse human AU art that suggests otherwise and lord who even knows anymore. But she’s Native to me because a) her birthplace is literally on reservation land, b) that whole thing with her being made in a crappy Kindergarten and her sisters being substandard to gem norms. Peridot trash-talking the place sounds a lot like gringo tourists going through the reservation and trash-talking the housing situation and lack of amenities. (NB: While I have been living on the reservation for the past few months, I’ve not grown up here and don’t have the long-term effects of growing up here. *But* I have memories aplenty of spending every summer in a poor, tiny little village in Mexico and crossing the border every time because my parents didn’t want to deal with me, and that had a huge impact.)

Lapidot Isn’t Toxic

So my girlfriend and I decided to spend a little time going through the recent Amedot and Lapidot tags and what we saw was astonishing. Now I have nothing against Amedot but plenty of Amedot shippers are giving Lapidot hate left and right without good reason, it instead looked as if they were blinded by their hate for Lapis or lack of experience. Hell the only hate in the Lapidot tag that I saw was amedot shippers posting hate towards lapis with the Lapidot tag.

Point 1.)  IT’S AN ABUSIVE RELATIONSHIP!@#!#1 BULL SHIT, So I’d like to point out the episode Beta for a good example. In it Lapis is fully supportive of Peridot and they are shown in their home without stress. If anything this shows a huge part of their relationship. They are both happy to help each other and want to be around each other. 

When Peridot messes up Lapis instantly walks over to help her play instruments. Meanwhile when Peridot leaves she checks up on Lapis and it’s not a big deal to either of them. Also in the new episode it shows more proof it isn’t abusive.

When they do begin to “argue” about leaving Lapis doesn’t lash out. She may bottle it up slightly which is bad for her but she doesn’t take it out on Peridot. Final part for this point is that relationships are hard.

I know not everyone has been in a long term relationship since Tumblr has a wide range of ages but they are hard. I’ve been with my girlfriend for nearly five years and I’m not saying every day is a ball of sunshine. Every once in awhile even the greatest of relationships have fights and they help you move on and fix the problems of your relationship. That’s why when Peridot came out to sort of hiding things from Lapis and she wasn’t happy to hear that, it shows they do have room to improve but that’s true for every relationship. 

Point 2.) LAPIS AND PERIDOT AREN’T EVEN THEMSELVES SINCE THEY’VE MOVED INTO THE BARN. Okay first off, they are themselves this is how the cannon characters were written so this is completely them. Do you act differently in front of just your friends then to your girlfriend? Everyone acts differently around different people, I’m not saying you hide part of yourself but people genuinely do change around others. 

Another thing every episode is focused around Steven and who wants to act all romancey with a fourteen year old watching them. So maybe Peridot acts differently around Amethyst and maybe you like those interactions more but it doesn’t invalidate her other actions.

point 3.) THEY ARE FLAWED.

This is different then the whole abusive part I already mentioned to the fact that I’m talking about their actual flaws.

Peridot hides things from Lapis that she really doesn’t need to. Early in beta she mentions not to mention Jaspers name around Lapis. Lapis gave her a strange look as if to show that, that seemed weird to her. 

Peridot mentions bending over backwards for Lapis as well but she is just doing anything to make Lapis happy. So that point still isn’t even actually going that far, through context it is just another foreshadowing of Peridots problems which just need to be talked out. Peridot is putting 110% when it isn’t needed, Lapis hasn’t shown the need for Peridot to hide things.

In this high stress moment where Lapis feels like her life is in danger though it’s definitely hard to see the “right” decision and to properly talk about things. Peridot even avoids starting a fight by lowering the tension by calming down, she loves Lapis so much and knows how to keep these moments from reaching the worst they could get. This shows their connection is really strong and like I said relationships are work and nothing is perfect. 

Lapis: She left and that was an option that was given to her so I don’t even deem that as wrong but she did assume Peridot agreed with her without talking about it at all. That sort of blinded her to seeing how Peridot felt as well. Now those are genuine mistakes but regardless things happen. Look at Steven and Connie, even though they’re so pure and looked at in such a good light they still have issues as well but for the most part they’re happy. So is Lapis and Peridot and they haven’t shown signs of wanting to be apart. 

I think this show portrays relationships very accurately and a lot of people just want to look at the honeymoon phase and that’s not a fair judge. So feel free to ship whatever you want but also in those terms don’t blindly hate. Any questions and I’ll answer them wholeheartedly have a good one Adojo OUT

Also, with Blazer's story, I've never heard of cuddling helping sleep, but hey, anything for cute Lapidot moment! Also, I love the idea that Peri dealt with Bill when she was an antagonist... Makes me think of a certain mystery character... But either way, it was really well done! Departure from the normal Bill-centric stuff, but with a nice foreshadow to end it off!

i guess my brain farted too much...SU/SUF are based on steven’s perspective...wait it still doesn’t excuse the fact that the dev is behind the screen besides the crewniverse mocking us in the Sadie/Shep’s episode I know that SUF is watching steven getting torn apart but holy smokes why can’t the crewniverse try to put themselves in character’s shoes for one time.

c’mon, I mean, what a waste and what’s the point of having our Lapis Lazuli in the CGs if you don’t give her proper connection with each other (gems). I’ll buy the theory that our Lapis Lazuli is the most hated character among the crewniverse since she *only* got funky relationships with peridot and perhaps bismuth(?) outside of steven himself. and 0 connection development in SUF. they don’t even talk to her once. she having the “talk” with mean/good lapis lazulis is nice while she also serves the purpose of being steven’s mirror(there’s a comparison between episode 16 or 17 v.s. why so blue and it’s amazing.)

since this show is all about foreshadowing, i wonder if Lars/Sadie is a metaphor of what was actually going on between Lapis Lazuli and peridot. oh of course the S5 episode which amethyst/steven/peridot went to the kindergarten definitely counts. hell I was like, shut up and take my money when I eventually bought Lapidot shipping. and yes I am aware that I’m too late to the party complaining about a show that’s already ended.

i guess that’s the solely purpose of fanfics/fanarts. idk man why am I so mad about the unbalanced character development of a show I quit about 2 years ago only to come back finding out it has ended and my 5th favorite character outside the diamonds/steven is written this way...what’s the purpose of emotionally invest in SU/SUF again?

maybe I repeatedly read clockie’s theories too many times to the point I can’t unwire the impression of our Lapis Lazuli being this a bit arrogant, ancient and mysterious figure. it’s just...i guess, one can never satisfied. maybe it’s me who should find another obsession.

well at least the diamonds got one episode of character development and BD is high 24/7 which is a good news. and my boy Steven has so many character development which I’m so glad that I even ordered the SU complete DVD just for Steven.
