You all may rip german-american Luke from my cold dead hands because I am NOT letting that headcanon go.
#fun fact time#about 12% of the modern US americans activley identify as having german ancestry#around every 6th american has atleast one german ancestor in their family tree#about 8.41% of modern day Conneticut's population has german ancestry#ontop of Germans having been the largest minority within america for the longest time#this all comes from the fact that there were multible huge waves of immigration from Germany to the us- which lead to heavy German influenc#it changed however with the world wars where Germans became the enemy and efforts were made to “un-germanize” everything#this led to most german-americans having been americanized to the point of having no real connection to the culture of Germany left over#Castellan is the anglizized version of the german lastname Kastellan#a Kastellan having been the job title of the guy basically taking care of castles#so yeah#luke's an americanized german-american#and i will die on this hill#pjo#luke castellan#percy jackson and the olympians

In Gubbio, Italy, the largest Christmas tree in the world is located, which is lit every December 7. This record, registered in the Guinness Book, was set in 1981 on Mount Ingino, which rises above the city. The tree boasts about 700 light elements of different shapes and colors, reaching a height of more than 750 meters and covering a surface area of 130,000 square meters. Its unique structure extends to the medieval walls of the city, and its star at the mountaintop reaches the height of the Basilica of Sant'Ubaldo, making it an impressive symbol of Christmas in the region.

“The view up here is superb! Oh, would you like the kite?”
question to faye: whats something you didnt enjoy at first but grew into liking?
"Something? Something. Perhaps kite-flying! I simply did not see the appeal - it was almost akin to watching paint dry, but unlike with paint, it did not have an end! It went round in circles. And one could chase after a kite, but could never catch up to it. It was like chasing after a rainbow!
"However, I then met a very interesting friend. One who could make almost anything beautiful.”

obviously not all 'art gardens' (gardens where artwork is displayed as a primary purpose of the garden (as opposed to incidental)) are boring plant-wise but a lot of them are. sadly.
#i will still go they are interesting particularly to photographer me#but plantsman me cries a little when people talk about an art garden and its just statues outside in an environment as plain as an#art gallery where the white walls and plain floors are replaced with grass. a different kind of plain floor if you will.#there are some exceptions where the plants themselves become art in more than just the grass swirls that you see#which are very cool but like. give me a bit more thanks.#let the plants and scupltures play together#get some mad topiary or a maze in there#anyway#little sparta though ive never been is a key exception but i havent been so cant comment for sure#ive just seen it on monty dons british gardens#like last year i went to the garden of cosmic speculation and like. it was good to go to but 'garden' was stretching it a bit#it was a lot of lawn#some very cool use of trees and reflections though ill give it that#photographer me had a great time#and then there were the largests pierises and rhodies id ever seen and that was the best bit#but they were very leggy and tucked away#i only found them cos i saw a cercidiphyllum (which i also loved)#still very much worth the visit but it didnt excite plantperson me as much as i thought it would

It sits at the intersection of rugged Olympic mountains and the vast expanse of the Pacific Ocean with several rivers and streams flowing through the region. I like how when people travel they tell me about trees. “There were these super cool trees and all I could think was ‘oh you’d love to see these.’” 🖤🖤🖤
#I LOVE trees#opposite of this is someone telling me I’d hate Maine (?) because they’re too many trees#I want to see the proper redwoods someday#but also that requires going to California#but I want to see the sequoias#I’ve seen coast redwoods (really stunning btw)#stood inside one. never felt such a soul shaking experience#half ‘this is wrong’ half ‘this is what it means to be human.’#did you know trees communicate with eachother?#that the worlds largest tree is in Utah and it’s called Pando#Pando’s a giant aspen clone#:)#you know when you’re somewhere and you can just smell all the trees around#it’s like filling yourself with clarity#we weren’t meant to be so separated from nature#I’ll visit other small cities with less tree cover and it just. feels so static#trees <3333#Russian olives are an invasive species that tear down cottonwoods#the Bradford pear is nightmarish#the American chestnut isn’t wholly gone! chestnut blight didn’t kill it off entirely#it is just functionally extinct#salix herbacea is the smallest tree in the world#there was a time with no trees on earth! instead we had fungal sorta pillars#as we slowly developed a more oxygen rich atmosphere plants started growing!#not exactly a tree but ferns reproduce via spores! if it doesn’t reproduce with spores it’s not actually a fern#tropical forests can be coniferous!!!#petrified wood is really cool!!!#a lot of trees don’t really have a more recent common ancestor#instead splitting off on their own. though I’m nigh certain there’s a few big gaps in the tree fossil record#trees grow from the top and not the bottom! angio’s have fruits while gymno don’t! (juniper berries are actually cones ergo its a gymno) r
