Kettles and Water – A Gooseneck Kettle for Pour-Over Perfection

For some, it's rather Zen, taking the time and attention to brew a perfect pour-over coffee. Be it with the Chemex system or the V60 from Japan; filtered coffees take practice and attention to detail. The key element is controlling water flow over the ground coffee to extract the perfect flavour and aroma.

A gooseneck kettle, allows for precision pouring. Your standard kitchen kettle is fine for making tea, but it's just not compatible for the accuracy and control of water flow needed for pour-over coffee.

The water temperature is also important - in general, you should aim for 205 degrees or about 30 seconds off the boil. The rule of thumb is a higher temperature for light roasts and a lower temperature for dark roasts.

Sleepy Hollow Blend

Coffee Review

The second Halloween coffee that we found at Aldi was Sleepy Hollow Blend. The packaging is amazing. I love they added the headless horseman to the front since he is such a great Halloween figure. And it's not a dark roast like the Raven's Blend, but it is delicious. Lighter than the other one, but still very delightful.

It is a medium blend that has more of an apple and orange citrus flavor. I didn't taste the orange part, but I tasted more of the apple side. It was fresh and not overpowering, though I love having more flavor in the coffee. I have had other flavored coffees. Some had too much flavor, some barely had any flavor, and some were perfect. I think this would be in the barley flavor, but almost perfect category. I would definitely buy this one again and I hope I find it against next Halloween. Decided to experiment a little yesterday with a grade 1 Bali coffee. As you can see this is clearly white colored and not brown grounds. I absolutely love white coffee. . Extreme amounts of caffeine!
