In love with the idea of captain marvel being Billy's imaginary friend. Like, it'd be so easy. Early depictions had them as almost fully separate people sometimes, like one soul with two minds, rather than just two filters like we mostly see now.

But imagine a Billy down on his luck, hurt and hiding from police and criminals alike, daydreaming the hours away as children do, taking inspiration from all the superheroes rising to fame, making little stories to play out his dreams of saving the world with a generic action doll he found while dumpster diving once. Most of the paint's rubbed off.

Red's his favourite colour, his comfiest jumper is a bright ruby even after all the grime and washes. Gold, too, it's shiny and warmer than silver! A hero cape is a must, big and eye catching! And he can fly, of course, like superman, and in his daydreams, when he's sore and frustrated after a long day's grind, his superhero is smart enough and knows all the right words to get the bullies to stop without resorting to fighting.

His superhero fantasy is one he spends a lot of time on, the first one he goes for when struggling to sleep at night, and he can picture it so clearly. Captain marvel is big and bright and kind, strong enough to lift the boxes for the old lady up the road who's moving all by himself, fast enough to catch Jamie who fell out of the tree on Saturday and broke his leg and couldn't come to class for weeks. He appears at the entrance to alleys when Billy is cornered, he steps up behind to cover for him when he gets caught shoplifting, he sits at the bus stop with him when it's pouring rain and the right bus doesn't seem to be coming.

And then the wizard comes, or rather whisks him away, and like a magician from a fairytale breathes life into his imaginary friend until Billy feels thrice his size and a million times more invincible.

From then on, captain marvel is a real hero, just like Billy is a real boy, and as one they save the whole city, and then the whole world, and get cats down from trees and help Mrs Victoria move the last of her boxes and she gives them a pinch in the cheek and cookies for the road and sometimes it hurts but it's so much better than he imagined.

Two pages of a story I'll never write. Usopp ends up in a sniper competition turned assassin game with some of the deadliest sharpshooters in the New World. When Kuro Kabuto is destroyed, he's left armed with nothing but his wits and a tiny slingshot he hasn't used in years.

This idea was born because I miss the way Usopp used to fight, and his non pop green weapons. His ability to think on his feet and his creativity have always been his biggest strengths; I want a scenario where Usopp has to pull out all the stops on his gadgetry and trickery to beat enemies that far outstrip him in terms of physical power, only this time he sees it as the strength it is.

the reason for all the marriage offers isn't because everybody wants a piece of that sweet sweet matoba power but because the old exorcist aunties think it's such a shame that some two-bit soap opera actor is stringing along that nice matoba boy. they just want to help him get over this unworthy charlatan who is clearly never going to give him the time of day. remind him there's other fish in the sea, sort of thing. matoba is taking longer than planned to fall in love with one of their grandchildren but they are not above leaving a little cursed voicemail here and there and one day, their efforts are bound to bear fruit. surely any day now.

new doctor who season is making me feel the same excitement for the show i felt when i first started watching it in 2013 and that truly is such an invaluable feeling!!! i’ve loved every episode so far to absolute BITS and i always look forward to the next one

the trophies for the 2024 dutch gp are funny looking, but now that i could make out the words on them, the more i read, the more my heart sank.

it applies to all of them, to varying degrees, sure, but still.

so many sacrifices were made, are being made, for their dream to become reality, to be the best of the best, to rise above all. i have so much respect and admiration for that, but also so saddened by it, thinking of all the things they lost and had to overcome. things i could never have done, had failed in trying, and wouldn't ask of anyone, yet they went through it all. they all paid the cost.

update: i'm back and i thought about it some more while i was gone. if i don't write it all down, it will nag at me in the back of my mind. i thought about whether i wanna reblog or update this post and i'm feeling an update so here goes

there's something about seeing the drivers holding a trophy with these words written on them.

like, these are all concepts we are aware of, that they themselves are aware of. once again, it's the cost of making their dream a reality. they know what they are getting into, we know what they are getting into. yet… for them to be laid out like this, as a tangible object in these drivers' arm…

when i look at max, charles and lando holding the trophy high above their head, sun shining upon them radiantly as a sea of people cheer together in celebration of their achievement, i see it as the three of them triumphantly screaming "look at what i have overcame!".

when they cradle it in their arm, i see it as them nursing invisible wounds. physical, mental, and emotional wounds that they have collected over the years, some they got from when they were still so young, tiny little kids barely reaching their adult selves' waist, yet still ache til this day, because those wounds never truly healed, because it never really got a chance to, because it's an ongoing battle.

there's also the reality of knowing they are raising those trophies high today in victory, but comes morning, and the process repeats.

like i said previously, it applies to all of them, not just max, charles, and lando. anybody else on the grid could be on that podium today holding the trophy, and these thoughts would probably still gonna enter my head. it's inspiring and humbling. it was a sobering experience.
