Devlog 23

Got some sweet backgrounds finished this week. First one is the near-background for the graveyard within the Yokai Forest. The second one is a much nicer looking near-background of the Yokai Village

They were both really fun to work on! I might spend some time refining the pine trees in the village background though, something looks a little strange about them.

Other than working on backgrounds, I spend a TON of time working on pausing mechanics. Something so simple ended up being so tough. At this point, I'm starting to think my specialty is leaning more into pixel art than coding...which is weird considering my software engineering degree.

Anyways, thanks for reading. If you've gotten this far, then I'll go ahead and let you know that I'm planning on creating a release trailer soon! Keep a look out for that and spread the word <3

This is just me being kinda obnoxious but being good at a certain subject at uni sucks because you then end up having to become an unofficial (and hence unpaid) TA for the rest of your class, or else you earn the reputation of being a stuck up bitch. Uni doesn't reward talent or hard work, it just means you get more leaches attached to you

#Some of my classmates begged me to go to the department on saturday (a holiday) to explain them a thing #But on the way I got accosted by a senior phd student (she used to be project staff hence like super senior to me)#Then later after spending an hour helping her and 2-3 hours helping said classmates I went to do some other work in the dept computer room #And got approached by two people from that class whom I don't even know #Sunday I was woken up by two of my classmates knocking loudly on my door and I had to answer their doubts while still barely awake #and what's nuts is that after some time in that interaction I was just sitting there still half asleep #while they were discussing loudly among themselves in a language I don't undersand and writing on my notebook #which like. you can do outside. in your own rooms. why am I a part of this #Then today some random guy came sat with me after class and I had to help him with his code while doing my own #Also forgot when one of my classmates got mad at me for not sharing my code for an exam with her as she was taking the make-up exam #like. it was highly likely the prof won't change questions and even if he did that's my code?#The coding isn't even hard like the prof basically gives us most of the code and you just have to fill in some of the parts based on maths #which also isn't hard #Ok calling every one of them leaches is harsh and not completely true but damn this weekend is the last time I'll get to relax in a while #and they kind of ruined it for me like I enjoy the subject but that doesn't mean I want to think about it during my free time #Rant

So, I’m a stupid dumb idiot girl who spent like 3 days trying to figure out coding on geocities to make a fun, colorful, interactive website and I just. Don’t think I’m capable of understanding CSS. html makes sense enough but I have questions about CSS that sound really stupid, and ig are so dumb that there are no easy answers on the internet anywhere.

Like I followed all of the beginner stuff, and I get caught up in WHERE to put things, and WHY my images are not where I want, and cannot fix?? It??

So I’m gonna delete the site and never try again bc I got so frustrated I cried lol! But I drew these little assets to make my website fun and pretty, and I guess I can use them as stickers?? Idk I just hate making things ppl will never see💔

hc that the reason ford is so terrible with earth computers despite almost certainly having encountered more recent technology + technology based on current era technology while in the multiverse is that he's gotten way too familiar with alien computers and keeps trying to make normal computers work that way

#☢️.txt #ik canon is likely that he is just Bad at comp sci since he cant use fiddlefords laptop #but like. hes presumably a high energy physicist in the 70s #he likely wouldve encountered C by that point!#SQL came out in 78! and as far as we know he was reading journals even in gravity falls #hell even a lot of his pre-fiddleford tech seems to have relied on some form of computing #my personal hc is somewhere between 'ford is doing learned incompetence on everyone bc he thinks the idea of pcs is Silly and Pointless'#and 'ford was running everything entirely by hand until fiddleford showed up and forced him to use computers because no stanford you cannot #do this by hand actually. please for the love of something just use a calculator'#but i DO think the core issue is that ford is really bad at logic (the math subfield) and thats some of the basis of his animosity #hes really good at the type of math needed in physics and hes even pretty decent at working in different bases #but he struggles with stuff like logic gates bc he. does not think like most people. smth smth ford isnt just an anomaly due to his hands #his thought processes are different enough from other people that he struggles to make sense of coding languages #i think he also (and id argue this canon) makes massive leaps in logic that are hard to translate into code #if youre always making massive connections between things and seeing patterns but you dont always realize other people didnt pick up on the #then its really hard to write code for it bc you have to tell the computer Absolutely Everything #and ford isnt exactly known for his documentation lmao #ford pines

I think I made a mistake by taking both geophysics and data science in the same semester 💀💀

#up until now most of my classes have been very..... observational based I guess?#or i guess not as concrete in some respects cause the real world is never exactly like any of the perfect concepts you could discuss #and your learning has to be based around that accordingly #but for these two classes it's like Straight Up Hard Math and then a whole bunch of coding principles for organizing very real data points #which is! a lot!#I'm still gonna stick with them both though cause 1. i don't actually have any other options that fit with my schedule #and 2. there is actually no homework for geophysics so. i can probably manage it #megan.txt

#sometimes i feel like a town crier but like #only for things that interest me personally #like just a dude on horseback riding through town at 4am like #''I GOT MY TAX RETURN BACK. IT WAS $103.''#and people go back to sleep #anyway coding is both easier than i ever thought and also very very hard #like #very easy to do super super basic stuff #and people have done a lot of work to make it super easy to get started #there are html generators i found that do the basic foundation leg work for you to start #(super appreciate the people who made those)#and doing small basic edits to a pre existing code is easy #but uh #things get so much more complex #and when you KNOW theres a small error somewhere but you cant find it???#finding the error is like. lowkey brain melting #keeping track of everything when its still in progress is hard #and alao tbh ive always struggled to like #perceive the concept of software #like theres just this disconnect in my head #i have a brick of plastic and metal in my hand #and i can generally understand how it was constructed in specific ways to channel electric charges in a way to cause certain effects #but then the idea that you have this lengthy hypothetical and nontangible logic exercise just. SOMEHOW contained within it.#and that is the key to the physical item doing what you want it to #my brain just really struggles with that #so talking about code too in depth confuses me no matter how accessibly its phrased #just. its a math problem. its word problems. its logic problems. i can solve puzzles.#i cannot comprehend the continuum between the thought puzzles and the chunk of physical material in my hands #anyway #devilman am i right

#sweetlilbird rambles #I’m going to crash out I studied so hard for all of them #on my programming one I got a 58 😭😭#though that one was super hard because we had to hand write code and we weren’t able to have any notes #for my geology exam I got a 74 🥲#tbh I had my math exam the same day so I studied way harder for that one than this one #I stg if my other two exams come back with low grades I am going to kms (in Minecraft)

you know what my favorite fanfic trope is? Characters being ridiculously good at math. Like, genuinely, doing huge math off the top of their head. Especially better in fanfic because they always just shrug it off like "oh yeah I just did that math idk how" and everyone else is both baffled and too busy with other stuff to really worry about it but they're just. Good at it. And especially when that's not really their thing in canon

#This is about three specific fanfics #One is a voltron fic one is a drv3 fic and one is. A drv3 voltron fic.#Like when a character is math smart in canon they make like. A Thing out of it?#Meanwhile in the fics I'm thinking of it's just “oh yeah I have the earth-to-universal time units rates ratio in brain what like uts hard”#Sooo fun. So good and silly and me coded actually #Counting sheep by addition is too easy I count them by powers of 4 or powers of 13 #(depending on what I was doing that evening. If I was in math games powers of 4 if card games powers of 13)#((there's logic there I promise))
