An idea where Simon is a guy who posts tutorials on YouTube in his spare time outside of deployment. It was Johnny’s idea, originally—gossiping about how “th’ internet’s made increasing ‘money easy. All ya need is a wee bit of brains and a half-decent camera,” on a night when the team decided to hit the pub for a pint or two. The Scot continues, “Hell, ye dinnae even need a brain, people just shake their asses on camera and call it a day.”

And at first, Simon wasn’t interested. But somehow, he ended up posting his first tutorial video, uploaded with a half-assed, messy title. No one's going to watch it, anyway.

Until, his old laptop dinged with an email notification—someone had left a comment on his video, “Great video. Precise and thorough. Earned a sub.” Zero became one subscriber, then two, ten, until he had 98. It was a random channel, actually; it didn’t focus on one type of content. He posted whatever he wanted to post—and it ended up being something like fishing, survival tips, DIY engine modification or something like that. And sometimes even cooking.

Simon thought of making a video about disassembling and assembling different types of weapons, but ended up not doing so to avoid comments about the military. So, he uploaded that video of him cooking the easiest thing he could—English Breakfast. And you. You stumbled upon that video.

It’s funny, that this gruff-voiced, tattooed man who keeps his identity anonymous by staying behind the camera has his own way of cooking his sausages, paying attention to the details of his scrambled eggs and flipping his toast to the perfect crispness. He slips in a few tips, a few lame jokes that end up being funny because of the chuckle you hear in the video. You don’t usually leave comments or even like videos on YouTube, but—

“I never thought I’d crave a full English breakfast until now. Love the step-by-step instructions. And just wanted to say, the voice and the accent… *chef’s kiss*”

When you wrote that, you weren’t thinking anything. After all, you weren’t the only one saying that—the comment section was filled with compliments, and four of them also mentioned how his voice made them crave something and it’s not the food.

You weren’t expecting anything until a ding caught your attention from your laptop the next morning. A new email – from Youtube. A reply from Reaper777. Who's that? Oh, oh.

“Glad you liked the video. Maybe I’ll make more videos just for you then.”

… Reaper777, are you flirting? The corners of your lips tug as your smile spreads; your fingers fly to your phone screen and you quickly type a response.

“Can I make some special requests then?” and send. Then, another ding.

Reaper777: Let’s hear it.

And that was the beginning of a long thread of comments under a Youtube video on how to make a full English breakfast.

Hey Upper East Siders.

Pardon me for the time I took to write this, but I wasn’t sure whether to write a gossip post, or a eulogy, for some people’s common sense, that is.

Want to hear a story? Once upon a time, Mary had a little lamb, then the lamb grew up, gave birth, and that explains some people on this app. They follow each other, like sheep, one by one.

and that’s exactly what some of you are doing.

But when there’s so much smoke, who cares if there’s fire? Liars, Liars, Liars. I’m running out of fingers here, there’s too many to count!

But who’s talking? Oh wait, the lack of belief some people have in themselves. Like the great gossip girl I am, I decided to open my inbox to answer some pending success stories that have been sent to me. Instead, one anon said “slit your wrists”. I don’t usually like being told how to do things but if you’re going to tell me to do something, at least give me a physical demonstration. Maybe a…tutorial? Funny that you give me advice in a field you’re so specialised in…at least we have one thing in common. Someone give this one a pay rise. Since everything else in their life seems to be at an all time low.

As usual, it doesn’t end there. Another desperate lower east sider sent me: “You write things to yourself in your anonymous messages, come on, they're already realizing it.” Darling, just because you would, doesn’t mean I would. My blog runs on authenticity, not so-called tumblr “fame”. But of course, that’s just one concept your head’s too thick to wrap around.

Anyway, let’s move onto the bigger picture here. But…you might want to wear a gas mask. I’m afraid there are too many pants on fire! Allegedly. I’m sorry, that wasn’t clear? Let me say it again. Allegedly. Maybe if you listened as much as you’d spoke, you’d hear me, and I wouldn’t have to say it again.

It’s funny to say, but usually I’M the one gossiping, not the one gossiped about. But somehow, people have magically found a way to drag me through the dirt. No that’s not a tear in my eye, it’s disappointment. Disappointment that Mary’s little lamb turned out to be the mother of such…fuckers. Motherfuckers.

But back to the point, just found it flying right over your head. Listen closely so it doesn’t happen again. SPOTTED: A few lower east siders attempting to create their own little success story debunking club. They’re running in…circles? If there’s two things we know about circles, it’s that one, they are pointless (literally), and two, running in them, gets you nowhere (also literally).

Unluckily for them, a conclusion is something they’ll never come to, but to picture proof? They might just.

Picking and choosing which success stories are fake, and then asking them to send picture proof when you don’t believe? Please, there’s only so much laughs the upper east side can hold. Since your common sense seems to be searching for the divorce papers, i’ll break it down for you. Nobody owes you picture proof of their manifestations. But just like the many previous and countless times, people would just find a way to accuse them of getting their photos/videos on Pinterest, or the good old photoshop. Well I know a shop where you can’t buy photos, and it’s called your imagination, and when you use it, not only do you find your common sense in there, but you also get exactly what you want. Not such a difficult concept to grasp is it? Keep talking and i’ll see your head peeking over the empire state building soon enough.

Now once again, onto the next idiotic attempted claim. “These success stories have such similar desires”. Oh i’m sorry? But we live in a generation full of trends. And with trends come followers. And we call those followers sheep. I’ve counted sheep so many times so far, I might just fall asleep. This might sound crazy but…people get inspired…wait for it…by other people’s…don’t scream just yet…IDEAS! I know, it’s hard to believe. Crazy right.

But in my lovely consideration of not hurting your ego, I do acknowledge the rare valid points some of you’ve made. Like bloggers suddenly having each others accounts. Like bloggers saying they’ve manifested their dream lives, yet still staying on tumblr to argue with anons who call them liars. That doesn’t really make sense, honestly, even to me. But what gets me is the idea of picking and choosing certain success stories that have common desires, similar “typing” styles, and not enough enthusiasm. Apparently that’s the criteria you need to meet, in order to have a “fake success story”…Who the actual fuck are you to decide what’s not enthusiastic enough? So just because someone’s success story doesn’t sound like how you imagine your own to turn out, therefore it’s fake? If someone isn’t freaking out and smashing their keyboard whilst writing their success story then it’s fake? Are you fucking dumb? Let me answer that for you, first of all yes, you are fucking dumb. Second of all, you look for YOUR idea of success in THEIR success stories, so when you don’t see your ideal version of success, and your ideal reaction to success, you immediately assume it’s fake, because you cannot relate to it because “it’s not how you would react or what you would manifest”. Because your dumb fucking arse cannot comprehend the world beyond your own perception. Why? Because you’re a fucking dumbarse.

Call me crazy, but if one word comes to mind, it’s projection. And yes there are liars here and there, but the struggle to believe in others successes is just the struggle to believe in yourself. If you were reading those success stories from your mansion, with your desired appearance, in your desired city, with everything you could possibly want, reading other people’s success stories wouldn’t be so difficult would it. Why? Because humans learn from experience. But some of them are just too ignorant to consider, that with every person, comes a different experience. “Oh I didn’t succeed, therefore there’s no way they could have, they’re lying!!!!” Poor babies, may I ask where this desire to look for inconsistencies in success stories came from? I think we ALL know…it’s pretty easy to disbelieve in something that you believe you can never have. What was that word again…projection.

Yet again, I can’t believe I have to remind you that it’s not you against the world. Nobody is out to get you. Loablr is not some plot to make you believe in something that isn’t real. I don’t know what level of delusion that takes but usually it’s enough to put you in a straight jacket. Get off the app and touch grass. No one will notice if you leave, trust me. But in all fairness, I’ve read a few success stories that have seemed ingenuine to me. But do I have proof of that? No. So do I make a blog “calling them out” when I have no way of 100% knowing that, or do I move on with my life and focus on my own successes instead of their alleged fake ones? You think it hasn’t occurred to people that other people could be lying? If you think otherwise, boy have I got news for you. And most IMPORTANTLY, like I said before, YOU cannot define what ingenuine is, because YOU cannot predict other people’s reactions, nor can you see them from behind their screens. And since some of you are so obsessed with “real life” proof, you still decide to ignore success stories OUTSIDE of tumblr. Especially, Celebrity success stories. So CLEARLY there’s not much we can do for you here. You claim to believe in the law of assumption, then go and fucking apply it, instead of thinking you have some valid point to “prove”. You’re not as “woke” as you think you are. I don’t care if you can’t control your suspicions of others, i’m not telling you to stop feeling suspicious, but it’s the way you go about it that matters. And the way some of you do it, is disgusting.

If there’s anyone who is currently reading this who has lied about any successes whatsoever, you’re pathetic. And I hope you feel ashamed. And yes, no one actually knows who you are, but that’s not where the consequence lies honey, the consequence lies in the fact that you don’t have anything you want. Think about that for a second. Bitch. Instead of louboutin red bottoms, you literally have a red bottom. Don’t break your knuckles trying to get the extinguisher out.

Anyway. There’s so much more I could say about how unfathomably stupid some of you are but if I were to, then I’d be here all day. So i’ll leave it at that. And keep in mind, when I don’t reply to you, or when I block you, it’s not because i’ve got nothing to say or that i’m “defeated”, it just means that you are not worth my time and that i’ve probably already made a point that yet again flew over your head that you therefore missed.

As if some of you haven’t embarrassed yourselves enough already, you’ve decided to dig your holes even deeper. Maybe a little too deep. I think i’m starting to feel the earth’s core, maybe the heat wasn’t coming from the liars fiery pants after all…

I guess success is just harder for you to believe when your self concept is buried almost as low as you, when you debunk, insult, and argue yourself to death. Ofcourse someone who’s so used to failing sees nothing but failure. Can I even blame you? You know who you are. Pathetic.

Miles Morales sat on the couch in his living room, scrolling mindlessly through his phone. His fingers tapped against the screen, more from habit than interest, as he tried to ignore the growing irritation bubbling in his chest.

His braids had seen better days—frizzy at the roots, a little uneven, and far from the clean look he preferred. He’d been holding off redoing them because his mom had been working back-to-back shifts at the hospital. She was the only person who ever braided his hair. Always had been. He trusted her to get it right—not too tight, not too loose, and always with care.

The thought of going to a salon? Not a chance. He didn’t like strangers touching his hair, and he wasn’t about to start now. But still, walking around with messy braids? It didn’t sit right with him either.

From across the room, you glanced up at him. You’d been sitting at the dining table for the past hour, pretending to focus on homework. But really, you’d been sneaking peeks at him every few minutes. The way he kept rubbing his scalp absentmindedly didn’t escape your notice.

You smiled to yourself. You knew he was too stubborn to ask for help, but lucky for him, you’d been planning something.

"Todo bien, mi amor?" you called out softly, resting your chin in your palm as you watched him.

Miles looked up from his phone, his lips quirking into a small smile that made your heart flutter. "Yeah, I’m good, mami. Why you askin'?"

"Because you’ve been sighing like the world’s about to end," you teased, standing up and walking over to him. You perched yourself on the arm of the couch, close enough to reach out and brush your fingers over one of his frizzy braids. "It’s your hair, isn’t it?"

Miles tilted his head back, meeting your gaze. "Maybe. You know me too well, huh?"

"Un poquito," you teased, though you already knew the answer. "So? What’s the plan? You gonna let someone fix it?"

He scrunched his nose at the thought, leaning back against the couch. "Nah. I’ll wait for Ma. I don’t like anybody else touchin’ my hair, you know that."

You felt a spark of warmth at his words. He didn’t trust just anyone with something as personal as his hair—but you wanted to be the exception.

"What if it wasn’t ‘anybody else’?" you asked, trying to sound casual.

Miles raised a brow, turning his head to look at you more closely. "What you mean?"

You shrugged, your fingers playing with the hem of your hoodie. "What if I learned how to braid? What if I could do it for you?"

His expression shifted from confusion to surprise. "Wait, you serious right now?"

"Yeah," you said, grinning. "I’ve been practicing. Watching tutorials, practicing on myself and... okay, I even bought a wig to try on."

He blinked at you, his lips parting slightly in disbelief. For a moment, he didn’t say anything, and you started to worry you’d overstepped.

"Look," you added quickly, "I know it’s a big deal for you. You don’t have to let me if you’re not comfortable, but I thought—"

"You been doin’ all that... for me?" he asked, his voice softer now.

You nodded, your smile faltering. "Well, yeah. I know how much it means to you. I just wanted to help."

Miles stared at you, his mind racing. He didn’t let people into his bubble easily—not with stuff like this. His hair wasn’t just about looking good; it was about trust, about who he let close. And you? You’d gone out of your way to learn something just for him, without him even asking.

He swallowed, his voice quiet. "You’re somethin’ else, you know that?"

Your cheeks flushed under his gaze, and you laughed softly. "Is that a yes, Morales?"

He let out a small chuckle, shaking his head. "Yeah, that’s a yes. Just don’t mess me up, alright?"

"Boy, por favor," you teased, hopping off the couch. "Go grab the comb and gel. I got this."

Miles sat in the chair you’d set up at the dining table, his hoodie off, and his hands resting on his lap. You stood behind him, your fingers gently unraveling the old braids.

At first, he felt tense. He couldn’t help it. Letting someone touch his hair was like letting them into a piece of him he didn’t share easily. But with you, it felt different.

Your fingers worked carefully, detangling each section with patience. He could tell you’d practiced; your touch was gentle but sure, and you didn’t tug at his scalp like some people might.

"You good?" you asked, pausing to look down at him.

Miles tilted his head back slightly, his dark brown eyes meeting yours. "Yeah, I’m good. Just... not used to this."

"Used to what?" you asked, running the comb gently through a section of his hair.

He shrugged, a small smile tugging at his lips. "You takin’ care of me like this. Feels... nice."

Your heart swelled at his words, and you leaned down to press a soft kiss to the top of his head. "Get used to it, cariño."

Miles smiled to himself, his gaze drifting to the window as you continued working. He didn’t say it out loud, but moments like these made him realize just how much he appreciated you. You didn’t just see him; you understood him.

You worked in silence for a while, focused on getting each braid just right. You’d parted his hair into clean sections, spraying it lightly with water and smoothing it with gel before starting each braid. Your fingers moved with precision, and you couldn’t help but feel a little proud of yourself.

"You’re really good at this," Miles murmured after a while.

You grinned, though you didn’t take your eyes off the braid you were finishing. "Told you I practiced."

"On what again?" he asked, his voice curious.

"A wig," you admitted, laughing softly. "And, okay, a lot of trial and error on myself."

Miles chuckled, shaking his head slightly. "You really did all that for me?"

"Of course I did," you said, tying off the braid and moving to the next section. "Your mom’s been busy, and I know how much you hate going to salons. I just wanted to make it easier for you."

Miles leaned back slightly, letting his shoulders relax as your fingers worked through his hair. He didn’t say much, but his thoughts were a swirl of gratitude and affection. He didn’t know how he got so lucky to have someone like you.

"Thank you," he said softly.

You glanced down at him, your brows furrowing slightly. "For what?"

"For this," he said, gesturing vaguely to his hair. "For you. For always lookin’ out for me."

Your chest tightened at his words, and you leaned down to rest your chin on his shoulder for a moment. "Always, mi amor."

By the time you finished, nearly four hours had passed. You tied off the last braid and stepped back to admire your work. His braids were neat and even, each one perfectly aligned. You grabbed a mirror from your bag and handed it to him.

"Alright, what do you think?" you asked, a little nervous now.

Miles held up the mirror, turning his head from side to side to inspect your work. His eyes widened slightly, and a slow grin spread across his face.

"Yo," he said, twisting one of the braids between his fingers. "This is fire, mami. You really did this?"

"Really," you said, grinning as relief flooded through you.

He set the mirror down and turned to you, pulling you into his arms before you could react. His hands rested on your waist, and he looked at you with that soft, almost shy smile that made your heart melt every time.

"You killed it," he said, his voice full of admiration. "Thank you."

You wrapped your arms around his neck, feeling his warmth as he held you close. "Anything for you, mi vida."

He leaned down, pressing a soft kiss to your lips, and you felt your heart flutter all over again.

"You know you’re my favorite person, right?" he murmured against your lips.

You pulled back just enough to look at him, your eyes meeting his. "Yeah, yeah," you teased, though your cheeks burned. "Don’t forget it."

"Never," he said firmly, his voice full of sincerity.

And in that moment, with his arms around you and his freshly braided hair, Miles realized something he’d known deep down for a while now: he didn’t just trust you with his hair. He trusted you with his heart.

Do you have any tips on for people starting a comic and wanting to post to tumblr? Like pacing ect. Or well any experience you’ve had with your comics? Love your content as well ❤️

If it’s simply for fun, and you’re just trying to gain experience, my biggest advice would be to just START. Don’t worry about it looking perfect. Don’t worry about comparing it to other’s comics. Just try something, and if you find it’s not working, you can always change things up. I have gone through several styles and page layouts since starting. Do I wish those first pages of EW looked just like what I’m doing now? Yes, but if I’d waited around for perfection I would have never started. And I wouldn’t have had nearly as much fun creating it! If people like it, that’s great, but your art is for you. If you’re growing and learning and having fun, then you’ve accomplished something!

Now for some less preachy advice 😂…

—If your comic is gonna be hosted on Tumblr specifically, I would say, make sure you keep the 10 image limit in the back of your mind when you’re pacing things. That can definitely cause some headaches down the line. If you don’t plan ahead, and end up hitting it, you’ll have a sudden cut in your flow. This last update I knew it was gonna be long, so while I did plan, but I could’ve planned better.

—Variety is key!!!!!

Composition changes keep your viewers from getting bored. Sometimes I’ll find myself falling back into the bad habit of just doing the simple back and forth with two characters talking straight on, but changing the camera angle, making establishing shots when you change locations, and over the shoulder shots, etc etc…All these will make for a more interesting viewing. You may think a character needs to be in every single panel to make it interesting, but if you have a lot of dialogue, a simple plain shot—either in top of a solid background, or just over something boring, like a glance at the set, etc—this will let people focus on the words rather than splitting their focus.

Variety applies to shading as well—whether you’re using color or black/white. Variety in values are SO important for comics. You’re shoving a ton of information in a limited space, so try to keep your values different for items that are close together….it can make things very confusing and turn your line work into indistinguishable blobs if you shade without this in mind.

The top two panels have a variety of darker values and a halftone background—so the next two with Venus, I kept rather simple. I could’ve colored the buildings behind her, but then, she might’ve gotten lost amidst all the grey. There’s not really any trick or solid rule to this, but once you develop your creative eye, you’ll make these choices without even thinking about it.

A few links to helpful tools (they’re all procreate centered I’m afraid 😅)

Outline brush — a free tutorial for Procreate users. This brush kinda mimics the CPS feature that lets you create panels with a nice black outline. I used this brush very often, and it really gives your panels a professional look. Fair warning, it can be glitchy, but it’s free…

Manero Comic Bubbles and sfx — These brushes are not free, so I would recommend maybe getting in your groove before you try them out. They’re by no means necessary, but I’ve just started using them, and they save me so much time. There’s a HUGE selection of shapes, and they go on with a solid white background, so you don’t have to worry about coloring around your dialogue balloons.

As Halloween approaches, I’m excited to share my second treat for this year’s #Simblreen: custom clothing inspired by the spooky season! I mentioned in my first simblreen post that I wanted to share something different from my usual content for this Halloween and there are only two things I can think of to share that I usually create for my own game: custom paintings and shirts. For creating custom shirts or outfits for my career, I usually use CAS Texture Unitool because it is much easier for me and the images used for the stencils are still sourced from Pixabay, where they share stock photos and images. I'm not sure if I should share more of this type of content in the future or if anyone is even interested in these, as I know they are not the best out there. But we’ll see - maybe I’ll gain more confidence in sharing them! Keep in mind I’m completely self-taught, so this is just the process of how I make my drawings and not any sort of professional advice 😅 apologies for the long post ahead 😪

Starting with the basics, my biggest influences are Jin Kim and Ami Thompson. Both are amazing character designers and I really admire their stylization and expressions. Whenever I feel stuck on something, I always go back to their drawings for inspiration.

I typically start in Procreate with a canvas size of 3300px x 4200px or 11” x 14” with a DPI of 300.

I put my reference in the corner of the canvas (in this case it’s a screenshot from the movie She’s the Man) and I start my rough sketch (emphasis on rough). Sketching is probably the longest part in my drawing process because I’m focusing on expression, composition, proportions, etc. This usually has about two to three passes before I move on.

Then I lower the opacity of the sketch and clean it up with some lineart on a new layer. Lineart doesn’t play a huge part in my style, but I still like to play around with line weight. Since I knew this was going to be a fully rendered piece, I didn’t spend much time on lines that I knew were going to be removed later in the process.

Underneath all of that, I use the skin tone and color the base of the character. I make sure that I color ever so slightly past the lineart, for reasons that will be important later. This part can be tedious, especially because I use a textured brush, so there are a lot of gaps that I fill in later.

Then using new layers with clipping masks, I start the flat colors. Nothing too crazy here.

I’ve made color palettes for characters and backgrounds that I typically draw, so this way it speeds up the process and maintains style consistency. If I need a color that I don’t normally use, I’ll just play around with the colors until I find something that fits well with everything else.

Next, on a multiply layer, I add some basic shading (with the skin tone color) and blush (with an orange-pink color). I also move onto the background. Some are more complex than others. If I’m going for a more cinematic look, I’ll fill the background in with some basic shapes and blur it slightly. Thankfully the background was pretty simple in this reference.

I start checking proportions now that everything has basic colors. Then I duplicate my lineart layer and change it to a pinkish-red and put it on multiply mode and turn down the opacity. This is why the base color layer needs to line up with the lineart, otherwise there’d just be gaps underneath. Instead of erasing my black lineart layer, I put a mask on it and just keep the eyes and eyebrows.

Then I start working on the shading and hair, which is an entire process in itself. Maybe I’ll make a tutorial on that one day 😅

I also use some vivid light and soft light layers and put in some subtle colors for extra pizzazz.



Then I add a hard light layer to the eyes for that glossy look and on a normal layer add some white details just to make some things pop more (like the nose, lips, eyes, sometimes hair, etc.)

I did make an eye tutorial a while back, but my process is still the same!

Lastly, I spend a lot of time playing with different blending modes (multiply, add, soft light, vivid light layers) and really focus on the lighting. I used to focus on adding a lot more details and make the coloring more realistic, but I found that the more simplistic coloring was easier for me to do and fit my style better. Sometimes I still tend to go too far with the details and realize that it looks better when I tone it down a bit.

hi! not exactly a request but i do wanna ask, whats your process when you're rendering more paint like art? (if that makes sense, English isnt my first language so apologies hdskhsjdbd) i really love how you use the colors and im curious how you do it :0

i’ve been meaning to answer this one for a while so here’s how i painted miku in today’s post (put under the read more because yeah prepare for a long post

i’d also like to preface this by saying that i never follow a set way of doing things, so in terms of what my personal process is like, these are only broad strokes of what i do! sometimes i’ll combine or skip parts entirely, depending on how i feel. also, this is not a tutorial, just how i do things, so please don’t treat it like one :’D this will read like the ‘how to draw an owl’ picture if you do

first, like every artist, i sketch. more specifically, i’m getting an idea of what i want to paint later on. this could be how a scene is set up or in this case, how a character is posed. here i’m not concerned about details or getting everything perfectly, i’m only planning how the thing will be composed. maybe a lot of canvas size changing, or adjusting what miku’s doing (note how busted miku’s right hand looks from all the transforming!) however, i still have to be concerned with how clear the sketch will be to future me, because the sketch won’t be any good if i can’t read what miku’s doing

after that, i lay down a flat gray under the sketch, mainly focusing on giving miku a clear silhouette. this is also a good time to make adjustments to the composition on the fly if i suddenly feel like something can be improved upon, like shortening miku’s left arm from the sketch!

after painting a flat silhouette, i start shading in grayscale, focusing only on lighting. i usually do it in two passes, one for the lightest and darkest tones i’ll use (not black and white) and then a second for midtones to blend them better with the base gray but i forgot to screenshot the result of the first pass 🗿 nevertheless, here is where i can start adding some amount of details. i’m not including any extra accessories yet, just focusing on the base design of the outfit and the character herself (for anyone wanting to draw characters from That Gacha Game, this is how i personally make the process more bearable for myself.) i still use the dark gray to separate where certain details (like the facial features and fingers) begin and end, mainly to make colouring more bearable later.

now here’s where i get the Good Colours. it’s a cheat lol. i put a gradient map layer over the grayscale painting so that there’s a little bit of color to start. some gradient maps can be applied as is, some need the layer settings adjusted to make it look good. this one, for example, is a (free) gradient map set from the csp assets store that needs you to set the layer opacity to 20% and to set the blending mode to color to achieve this result. in general, i tend to pick which gradient map i want to use based on vibes, or basically whether i want the work to be warmer or cooler, colour-wise. but this does do quite a bit of lifting for the colors in my stuff.

and then, finally, i add the colours. i add flat base colours in an overlay layer. at this stage, i’ve made the character silhouette clear enough that i don’t need to refer to the sketch anymore for what miku looks like. also, the gradient map layer does its magic by making the shading a bit more vibrant than it would’ve been without it. after that i paint over with a new layer to add details like the lace.

and then i put some extra shading on top. basically this is where the ‘better lighting’ happens. again, this isn’t a tutorial, so i’m not here to say what each part of the lighting is, but i’ve labeled which layers do which job. in other works where the lighting within a scene is more defined (from a window, from a small crack in the walls, etc) the glow dodge layer may be more opaque and sharper, but since this isn’t a work with that, the lighting was applied using an airbrush. the linear burn layer is also there to make the whole thing darker so the glow dodge doesn’t end up oversaturating miku. i also usually match the lights to the vibe i want, and use a complementary color for the shadows. so here you can see i have warm colors on the glow dodge layer, but light purple on both the linear burn and multiply layer.

and that’s it for the character—here’s a gif showing how each layer adds to miku! (sorry it’s so toasty)

as for the background, depending on the complexity, it may go through a similar process, or if i can settle with flat image backgrounds, i just go for that. it’s ok to use external image materials. i didn’t have a background in mind for this miku in specific, so i got some default csp materials and threw together something

and that’s about a rough overview of what my process for more finished works looks like! again, art is a fluid process so i never specifically stick to certain steps all the time, and you shouldn’t either. i can probably answer why i’d pick this colour over another in one particular work, but it’s something that kinda has to be learned on a grander scale. i think everyone can already feel what colors work with what atmosphere or what setting, even if they can’t immediately explain why. colors and composition do take some level of experimentation to find what works best!

What program do you use?

I use Adobe Photoshop CC and Procreate. Photoshop for painting and colouring, Procreate for sketching and inks. 

What brushes do you use?

I can’t share most brushes since I bought them ages ago and don’t have the source for them anymore, sorry. For Photoshop, I use flat or rake brushes, and one flat, calligraphy-like one that tilts with pen sensitivity, and an airbrush that has some kind of grainy paintspray effect. For Procreate, I most commonly use Max Ulichney brushes for textury brushes, standard procreate pencil brushes and Joe’s Fine Ink Line for inks. 

Do you do commissions?

Not right now, no. If I do, I’ll announce it, but on Patreon first.

Yes, it’s on hiatus. We sell volume 1 at conventions, and will do our best to sell it online as well. There are some plans for volume 2 in print.

I love to share about our campaign! I have an artbook about it, or rather, the relationship between my PC Kasper and the NPC Lydia. How do you color/do you pick your colors?

Honestly, I just experiment a lot. Use the color wheel! Look at how other artists you like use colors! This helps me more than anything. This, and curves sometimes. I’ve been planning to do a tutorial for patreon for a while now, but haven’t gotten around it yet.

.Tysm!!!! I do love making timelapses and rewatching them myself to figure out if I’m going wrong somewhere, it’s like resetting your eyes mid picture. I do also love seeing other people’s processes too. I realised the other day why I like digital art and drawing in ink traditionally, it’s because I get to keep the actual process of the image, in 99% of my sketches traditionally I’ve drawn messily in pink, and drawn cleanly over it in black, and with digital art it’s just there on another layer. I am such a huge fan of process that it outweighs that final piece of art for me.

.I also think there’s a lot that can be learned from an artist’s process over idk a tutorial they make; I remember a while ago I asked another artist (I cannot remember who girlie mb ✋😬🤚) about drawing hands, and they made this nice little post that did help me but probably not how it would be expected, because with that post I realised my issue was with the foundation shapes I was drawing weren’t blocky enough for what I wanted. A simple “this is my process” from someone else helped me figure that out.

.For detailing! I find that not actually initially sketching everything helps a lot, (in my Sebhawke I actually add in Sebastian as an afterthought lmao it was just going to be Hawke on his own 😂) both in the fact that if you think of something mid picture you can just fit it in with little problem, and sketching loosely helps to free up and relax the hand if you’re getting a bit stiff drawing solely lineart. Also, I don’t know if this applies to anyone else but sometimes I’ll get a bit stuck on drawing a certain part of the image (maybe it’s a hand or idk how the clothes are supposed to lay) and it’s a really simply solution to just sketch it over the basic sketch, so it’s a bit more detailed and easier to lineart. Like idk what part of my brain was like “once the sketch is finished you can NEVER go back to it” because that’s stupid as hell; I’ll be on shading and realise that I could wedge something in somewhere and just go straight back to sketching.

.I do think that heavy detail is something that has to be built up to though, it’s not like something that can be done instantly without probably burning out or ending up hating detailing work. It’s also mental to look back on my stuff from like 2020 that I thought was so detailed for my skill at the time, and then comparing it to what I was making in 2023 which has as much detail in as I could manage; like that is progress and there’s no way I could have made that level of detail before I’d built myself up to it. And that compared to what I’m making now 😭 ……bro… I think my main issue is that I don’t know exactly how to flesh out medieval / fantasy stuff in a way that looks proper, just from like actual lack of knowledge about the time period even though I’m 👀🥴😩👌 about it, whereas cyberpunk was considerably easier because just slap a bunch of fans and wires and boxes and you’re good to go 👌.

.As an added note, detailing can literally just be drawing like a 3d shoelace instead of just a single line to represent a shoelace. Then you start drawing the eyelets in another picture, and then you do the proper stitching on the shoes, or maybe a distinctive tread, then maybe there’s buckles or velcro or a designer label on them. It’s not something to hyper fixate on all in one go. Literally just drawing the seams on clothing adds a layer of detail, (and also shows form!) and now I’m like rarely ever not drawing them because it’s just subconscious for me to add them in.

.Realistically I’d like to make proper timelapses that are actual screen recordings as opposed to what CSP shows because there’s probably a bunch of times where I’m just sitting there thinking about stuff or getting distracted by research, and that doesn’t show in my current timelapses; I don’t just one bomb these pictures!!! I faff for a fair bit of it!!! Also rotation and zoom on the canvas, the CSP recordings are kind of deceptive in omitting those.

.Anyway I have a timelapse tag for all my timelapse stuff, which is…. not a lot but STILL!! Also there’s this timelapse of my zevwarden picture from a bit ago that I never uploaded whoopsie 😘💕.

Yeah, poor Deuce barely can keep up keeping himself alive and well, and now he also has a guy who fucks him to worry about..!

Hi there, dreamers and creators!

So, here I am—just trying to build my own little corner of the internet. A digital sanctuary, if you will. You know, one of those cozy spaces where creativity flows freely, stories come alive, and maybe (just *maybe*) someone else finds comfort or inspiration in what I create. But let’s be real: I’ve got *so much* to learn. Like… an overwhelming amount. But hey, isn’t that half the fun? :p

I’m diving headfirst into the world of AI, visual novels, and RPG game design because… well, why not? It’s equal parts thrilling and terrifying, but mostly thrilling. The idea of crafting worlds, characters, and stories that people can interact with? Yeah, sign me up for that rollercoaster. Of course, it’s not like I expect to become some legendary indie dev overnight. I mean, I still mix up basic coding terms sometimes (*is it “if” or “when”? Or is it both?! Help!*), but I’m here for the journey.

Digital art, storytelling, AI tools—they all fascinate me to no end. There’s something magical about taking an idea from your brain, feeding it into technology, and watching it grow into something tangible. And yeah, okay, sometimes it grows into something hilariously broken instead. But even then? Progress. Baby steps. Tiny pixelated victories.

As I stumble through tutorials, experiment with new tools, and probably cry over a few failed projects (hey, it happens to the best of us), I’ll do my best to share bits and pieces of my progress here. Think of it as part journal, part brainstorming session, and part “laugh-at-my-mistakes-because-they’re-kind-of-funny.” Who knows?
