Tagged by @kudzucataclysm to answer these questions. I'll be answering for my witch noir The Stranger series.

I. What is the main lesson of your story? Why did you choose it?

I don't have a "lesson" so much as a "message" I guess. IDK, I presume this question is really just referring to theme? I hope lol. In which case, the main theme of the witch noir series is bodily autonomy and the various systemic and interpersonal ways it can be violated. So we're talking fantastical depictions of sexual assault, domestic violence, institutionalization, reproductive control, substance use control, capitalism and other forms of material coercion, the prison industrial complex, etc. In part this theme comes from convention inspiration, as this series as a concept first began as a genre study, and in part is simply a sensationalized expression of my own personal The Horrors as a neurodivergent Jewish transgender abuse survivor lmfao. Which is just another flavor of genre convention, when you think about it! Everyone give it up for genre conventions. All my homies love genre conventions. RE: Cyrus. Obviously I can't say for sure since... NFHR (Not Finished, Haven't Read). But! I've so far been interpreting what I know of SE to have themes surrounding conservation/disaster, scientific ethics, capitalism, war, and retrofuturist dystopianism. Sort of a The Day After Tomorrow x Jurassic Park x War of the Worlds situation.

II. What did you use as inspiration for your worldbuilding?

This is also pretty much down to genre convention! Like I said, this series started its life out as a genre study, which means it functionally speaking came with a starter pack lol. I've also used a lot of real world culture and history to contribute to and/or base things off of. For example, Eddie's power type is built around some beliefs and superstitions common within her cultural background (Mexican Catholic). The world's history, geography, etc are based on real world people, events, places, etc and changed to synonyms/close matches (i.e. Sugar Ln to Cane St, Freddie Mercury to Izzy Quicksilver, etc) so I don't have to come up with that stuff whole cloth but I also don't have to worry about accuracy. RE: Cyrus. Haha, you said War of the Worlds. I'm getting a good grade.

III. What is your MC trying to achieve, and what are you, the writer, trying to achieve with them? Do you want to inspire others, teach forgiveness, or help the reader grow as a person?

Well, aside from solving the murder and getting the girl, Eddie just wants to feel fulfilled as a person. She just wants to matter. She wants someone to care about her without obligation, to want her without needing her. And she wants to have a Purpose; she wants there to be a Reason that she exists, and exists Like This. As for what I'm doing... I'm just expressing a concept. This is what this thing is to me. What the reader does with that is the reader's business. RE: Cyrus, about doormat characters. You're right and you should say it. Louder.

IV. How many chapters is your story going to have?

Well. Original outline has it at 7 for Curse The Messenger (book 1), Gilded Verdict (2), and Latchkey Craft (4), and 13 for The Vanishing Point (3), but I'm thinking I probably should split them up more because that's putting us at an average of about 10k words a chapter, which I guess is Gucci for fanfiction but Too Long for a book? But I was doing an "unlucky number" gimmick sooo.... Maybe I'll go with 13 chapters for CTM, GV, and LC, and 19 chapters for TVP. Actually I just looked up the numerology for why 19 is unlucky, and um. Yeah! Yeah, I think I'll do that lmao. So. 13 x 3 + 19 = 58 chapters total (which, incidentally, is a lucky number! #perfect).

V. Is it fanfiction or original content? Where do you plan to post it?

The Stranger series, and everything I talk about in any real detail on this blog, is original. I plan to self-publish it but I don't have any more specific plans than that yet. I'll decide more when I actually have a completed draft lmao. I do also write fanfiction though, which I post on AO3!

VI. Do you have any words of encouragement for fellow writers of writeblr? What other writers do you follow?

More advice than encouragement I suppose, but: outlining and rough drafting are for figuring out what you want to do, editing and final drafting are for doing it on purpose.

Hi! Thank you! That's actually not what I need motivation for at the moment lmao. This blog (my main) is my fandom blog, so when I post about writing on it it's almost always about fanfiction lol. Curse The Messenger (and other original projects) stuff is on @calicohyde! CTM specifically will be under the tag #witch noir.

The witches have a loose secondary society, somewhere around the halfway point between a counterculture and an actually separate sovereign. They have a matriarchal gerontocracy and are ruled in small jurisdictions called covens. Each coven is led by however many crones happen to be members of the group, crone here being defined as a woman who has gone through menopause (it's cis/perisexist, bioessentialist, ableist, misandrist, etc as an intentional flaw). Covens have communal ownership over the natural resources within their borders, and borders and inter-coven laws - called taboos - are decided on by multi-coven meetings of crones called masses.

The magic is almost magical realism. Witches are born with innate inherited magical abilities in certain categories. The wider categories are called families, obviously since they run in families lol. There are four: Clairvoyants, Naturalists, Rooks, and Composers. Each family has subtypes, and each subtype as a limited and very specific set of or a single magical ability. The rarer a type and the more glamorous the magic's societal use, the more generally respected and socially valued the witch who has it is. For example, Strangers, a type of Naturalist, are the rarest type overall and have a power set that lends itself to otherwise difficult or impossible medical care, so they are actively sought out, recruited, and privileged by covens, and often become famous. Meanwhile, Emenants, also Naturalists but the most common type overall and with a seemingly mundane power set, are often deliberately institutionally neglected.

The entire family of Clairvoyants are also prejudiced against, in a more active way than Emenants. They are thought to be weak and/or to have a disposition toward evil, when in fact they are just vulnerable. "Sixer" and "sixthist" are slurs against Clairvoyants, referring to their heightened sixth sense. Bigotry toward witch types is called "craftism".

At the beginning of the book/series, Fred and Eddie, the clairvoyant P.I. orphan siblings, take your typical theft and infidelity cases. They take both witch and secular (non-witch) clients, all by word of mouth. The plot at its most basic is Jessica, a secular femme fatale, requesting that Fred and Eddie help her solve a really weird alleged murder with disappearing evidence that the police allegedly refused to take a report of.

The most recent chapter of CTM had me foaming at the mouth, I got that sinking feeling when Donnie was trying to find out how he could have possibly messed up a simple walk in the park, what the mc was thinking, why it was all so bittersweet, honestly mwah, love the way you write their thinking process, especially Donnie's.

And I am so unbelievably HAPPY THAT WE GOT THE KISS, also Donnie's thought of how much he had dreamt of having another chance, I'm so glad he wasn't about to mess that up AGAIN DAMN

I've been meaning to ask this, sorry if you've already answered this sort of question, but in canon reloaded what would like. CTM maps be considered? Especially since the difficulties and like...intention? I guess? Varies a lot between creators and even maps from certain creators will vary (a creator can put out an impossible map and then also a fairly standard medium difficulty map, for example). Sorry if this is a bit of an odd question, I've just been curious for a while about it

This will cover mainly CTM maps cause something like horror maps would need a different explanation X3

Just as a recap because I know navigating the tree link gets tiring. In canon reloaded au anyone that has trained as an administrator can be assigned a world. What world they get assign depends for what purpose they will be using it and what rank and other professions they may have.

For example someone like Mumbo K Jumbo, redstone extraordinaire from Hermitcraft can ask to have a third gigantic world added to the other two worlds he often uses to test redstone contraptions, meanwhile a regular folk may ask for a world and get a very tiny one assigned, and no more.

Map creators are no different. In canon reloaded au they would simply be administrators that specialize in terraforming worlds and they might have other specializations like redstoner, builder, etc. but their main line of work is as administrators.

And there are administrators that terraform worlds for experiments and to gather data (like Fundy does, aka. His coded difficulties and mods to mc videos) but whilst this type of admins don’t get to keep their worlds, someone that customizes a world for a particular reason may if that reason is good enough.

Most customized worlds (maps) then are made to both entertain and provide adventurers with a more organic setting so people may train in them

We could look at Captain Sparklez. He is a very VERY well known adventurer and by now he keeps going to customized worlds just by the sake of it because is fun, but he is as good as an adventurer as he is today thanks to all those maps, same can be said about Dantdm.

The IPA would probably rank them depending on how challenging they may be for someone as to not throw a first time adventurer into something hella difficult, and you bet that if an admin has made a successful world before chances of them being endorsed to do more are high

UT/THSC is a very interesting crossover. Both have MCs whose morality is chosen by the player. Both have stories where choices heavily matter. The ability to turn back and do something different etc etc.

Is there a specific reason why you chose the Valiant Hero ending for this story? Also which is your favorite ending from the games? Mine is between Convict Allies from FtC and Triple Threat from CtM

Why did I choose Valiant Hero for the Valiant Souls story? Well, I suppose that’s because, in the simplest terms, I wanted to create a happy ending out of a bitter one. We’re not quite there yet, obviously, but we’re working towards it, piece by piece.

Convict Allies/Triple Threat are also some of my favourite endings! I also really enjoy Pure-Blooded Thief and the Jewel Baron/Stickmin Space Resort endings, just because of how epic they are! And obviously, I enjoy working with Charles and Ellie in any capacity, so all their endings are awesome too!
