Tell the Senate: Reject a Budget Resolution that Raises Energy Costs

In case you missed it, Senator Cory Booker just broke a record for a marathon speech he gave on the Senate floor in protest of Trump and Musk’s extreme threats to our democracy, climate, and communities. Why should you care? Because advocates like you have been emailing, calling, and demanding that their electeds do something about MAGA’s extreme coup. And the fact that Booker just spent all of yesterday and the night before standing in front of the Senate reading stories directly from his constituents about how Trump’s drastic cuts are taking a toll on their daily lives demonstrates that your advocacy is working. And what happens next will require us to raise our voices again. Because the Senate plans to vote on a spending bill that would lead to deep cuts to federal programs people rely on—all to fund a $4.5 trillion tax break for billionaires and big corporations. If passed as proposed, the budget resolution would tee up a full reconciliation bill that could effectively eviscerate critical energy investments and tax credits that help working families and lower energy costs. Will you email your Senators right now and tell them to vote against it?

Republicans are pushing hard for a resolution that would cut funding off permanently, going after life-saving programs like Medicaid and gutting popular Inflation Reduction Act (#actually important#petition#signal boost#save act#voter suppression#fuck trump#time sensitive) programs that save families money, make transportation safer and healthier, and create good-paying jobs.

At a time when people are already struggling to keep up with everyday costs, passing a budget resolution that robs the public to give tax cuts to the wealthiest people in the country would be ludicrous, and completely out-of-touch.

Senator Booker knows it, and we commend him for rising up in this moment, standing up for his constituents, and exposing the MAGA agenda for what it is: “a complete disregard for the rule of law, the Constitution, and the needs of the American people.”

If he can stand on the Senate floor for 25 hours, I hope you can take one minute to write to your Senators today about rejecting a budget resolution that would repeal IRA tax credits and other federally-funded programs that working Americans depend on.

my mum has severe knee problems and needs a replacement. Today she was told she's too fat to be operated on and the knee specialist suggested she gets a gastric band - which also involves surgery. So my mum was like first of all you didn't read my file because it explains that I'm not fat because I eat too much second of all you said it's impossible for me to get surgery and then suggested I get a surgery about it? He then asked her her weight and height, didn't believe her answer, and made her prove it to him because she "looks fatter than that". So she was like so you also just entirely based this on looks instead of actual numbers?

The worst thing is that there is so much potential for exploring the horror of psych wards from the angle of medical abuse, ableism, forced treatment/drugging, loss of autonomy, power imbalance, demonization, dehumanization, etc, and YET the horror genre keeps defaulting to "insane asylums and psych wards are scary because there are mentally ill people in there"

Original post is viewable through my profile. Apologies, since I’m on mobile, I couldn’t hyperlink. The TLDR: my doctor called me on Monday and informed me that their practice would no longer be providing treatment for gender affirming care as a result of a recent presidential Executive Order, even though the EO was for people under 19. Even though I’m 25.

Also, because it was asked a few times, this happened in Michigan, and I’ve been on HRT for 5+ years. It’s a practice that includes like 15+ physicians, and I think that the decision was made over my PCP’s head, given that she once told me that she literally moved states to be able to provide gender affirming care here.

First off, genuinely, thank you so much for all the replies and messages. I genuinely felt frozen after that phone call and didn’t know where to start, and you all really helped me get my feet off the ground.

A couple people mentioned contacting the ACLU, which, truthfully, I thought, “there’s no way that the ACLU will get back to me” but I sent a message anyway. They actually called me a few hours after my post and we talked about the Executive Orders and my rights. They offered to fax my provider a letter reminding them of my rights and some other legal terms. It’s crazy how a post on reddit resulted in my name being on the official ACLU letterhead.

Anyway, today my doctor’s physician assistant called me and shared that their practice is reversing their decision and they will continue to provide gender affirming care. I’m still keeping a bunch of the resources that y’all shared saved, including Planned Parenthood, Plume, and looking into a private endocrinologist.

This whole experience just reminded me how great this community is. I appreciate y’all <3"
