I imagine book 1 Andrew waking up after a bad night of rolling around, nightmares, feeling ghost hands over his skin, and all the comfort he gets is (even grumpier) Kevin waiting for him in the kitchen with his next dose. Like no wonder he hated his meds. (It must've felt like an insult to all he had overcome. (is my speculation))

Also Matt's 'I don't want to be here when Andrew's between doses.' Andrew wants the others to be afraid of him, because it's the easiest way, perhaps the only one he knows, to ensure they will always respect his boundaries and keep a distance. And then there comes Neil who's like: I've seen so much worse in my life than one "psychotic midget" idgaf, but he still respects those boundaries, he still doesn't cross any lines. And perhaps it gives Andrew a little bit of hope that he can still be respected without being feared. (is how I interpret it atm)

aaron is “little rat ❤️” in nicky’s phone. so is andrew. it is so unbelievably confusing but nicky says it has to be identical because they’re identical. ends with andrew’s first piercing because then he’s changed to “little rat 💘”

Aaron studying so hard for his tests, labs, including the MCAT, and Andrew subtly dropping off snacks so Aaron can recharge since he rarely leaves his desk or room unless for exy practice.

If Aaron is so busy studying that he forgets to properly take care of himself, Andrew sends in Neil to annoy the shit out of Aaron so his twin is forced to take a break by chasing a smug looking Neil that never passes up the chance to have free reign of taunting Aaron.

The nights before Aaron has to take a big exam, Andrew actually threatens everyone to either be quiet, go to bed early, or vacant the premises so Aaron can sleep. Aaron has no idea Andrew does all that and just thinks it's convenient that he can get a full 8 hrs before taking his exam.

Aaron may not have an eidetic memory like Andrew does but he has a damn good one and he can remember anything he puts even the smallest amount of effort into remembering.

After everything that happened in Baltimore Aaron starts to note every small possibly important (and unimportant) medical fact about the foxes. And he’s not even totally conscious he’s doing it.

He consciously remembers Andrew and Nicky’s blood types. He knows Nicky’s allergic to penicillin and he knows Andrew doesn’t react well to doctors so it’s best for everyone if he can be administered some kind of sedative right away.

And then he thinks he should probably know this stuff for Kevin, and begrudgingly Neil, because they’re part of his strange little family that Andrew’s created. So he quickly and easily finds this information on them (because he’s a Minyard and he just knows how to find the things he needs to know). So he knows their blood types and he knows Kevin still feels residual pain in his left hand but doesn’t show it and try’s to ignore it. He knows Neil heals annoyingly quick from his all too common injuries but he also knows he aggravates those injuries easily by pushing himself too soon.

But it doesn’t stop there, there’s a small itch in the back of his head driving him to find out the important medical facts about the rest of the foxes. So he allows himself to remember their blood types and allergens and tells himself he needs to know incase of an emergency.

But he also notices that Matt has a high tolerance to pain medication whenever he’s being treated by Abby for an injury during practice or a game. And he notes the one type that works for him and keeps multiple bottles on him and in their room. (It’s also the only type that works for Kevin and works best for Neil so he stocks their room with it too)

And he notices that Allison is a slight germaphobe and applies hand sanitizer anytime she has to touch a public door handle or they go out to eat. So he opens as many doors for her as he can despite the confused look he gives her every time and he just glares right back at her. He keeps an extra mini bottle of hand sanitizer in his backpack for her as well and silently passes it to her when she’s forgotten hers.

He notices Dans chronic knee and lower back pain that Abby is constantly treating and how there’s always a rotating rainbow of colorful KT Tape on her. So he keeps an eye on Abby’s stock of tape and when a color is running low he casually mentions it to her to order more and then walks away.

He notices how Renee always picks at the scabs on her knuckles that result from her sparring with Andrew. He figures the wraps she has are getting old and silently leaves a new pair on the counter the next time he’s in the girls dorm, along with a box of bandaids and a tube of antiseptic ointment. He leaves a matching set of supplies in Andrew’s dorm as well just to be safe.

He doesn’t consciously realize that what he’s doing is protecting and taking care of the Foxes. But the others catch on and smile fondly at him because he’s letting himself care for them and become part of their family.

And the one time Dan mentions what he’s doing for them he looks at her like she’s crazy. He tells himself, and her, that that’s not what he’s doing, he’s just a future doctor and someone needs to take care of these injury prone idiot athletes and no one else besides him and Abby are going to do it right.

Aaron would definitely be so observant and acutely aware of the Foxes physical well beings despite him insisting he doesn’t care and hates them all. But he basically becomes Abby’s right hand man and teams second nurse because it’s good practice for his future and he knows them.

so do we think that andrew refused his prescription pain meds after his surgery so that they wouldn’t have to exist within proximity to his brother? because even if aaron was sleeping in a different dorm, he’d be over and he’d know they were there, and andrew trusted him but didn’t want to put him in that situation regardless? and do we think that above all, andrew didn’t want to be high on pain meds in front of aaron, didn’t want to provide that potential reflection?

Ok hear me out here because I love this concept but will probably never write a full length fic of it:

After the final game with the Ravens and Neil's deal with Ichirou and everything else that has happened over the course of the first 3 books Andrew switches his major. Criminal justice was funny, but he now has an idiot at home who needs looking after, so Andrew decides to be the someone has to look after the exy crazy redhead and becomes a sports medicine major.

With his eidetic memory, Andrew has no problem catching up or making up for lost time and quickly becomes the top of the class. (Aaron might be a little jealous, but they are studying different medicine, so it's fine.) In addition to his classes, Andrew starts asking Abby questions about being an Exy medic specifically.

Fast forward, all our boys (and the girls too, of course) have graduated, and Kevin and Neil go pro.

The three of them quickly realize that Andrew can't just sign on to whatever team Neil is on because Neil can be traded/isn't guaranteed to stay with one team. But Neil is making a lot of money. (Even giving 80% of his paycheck to the Moriyama's that's still a crap ton of money he's making) So Andrew doesn't need to have a job per se, so instead he becomes a spectator. Always first row, near the benches that Neil (and usually Kevin's) team are using.

And any time Neil (or Kevin) gets injured badly enough to be subbed out, they ALWAYS go to Andrew first. He checks them over, patches them up if needed (with a first aid kit he keeps under his seat), makes sure they're fit to play, and sends them back to their team. The first time it happens, fans go NUTS speculating about why. Why would a pro exy player go to a fan in the stands over their team nurse? Who is this guy? Why do BOTH Kevin and Neil go to him?

Eventually, Neil makes a statement about his and Andrew's history at Palmetto (ending rumors that respected Doctor Aaron Minyard has a side hobby of looking after old college teammates), ending it by saying that he trusts Andrew.

Eventually, things calm down, and it becomes an accepted part of the professional Exy world. There are articles about the closeness the three men must have experienced as members of the Foxes, speculations about their friendships, and the history there, but apart from the original statement, neither Neil nor Kevin ever comment again, and the press can never quite catch up with Andrew.

(No one knows that Neil and Andrew have been together since Neil's freshman year. No one knows that they live together and that Kevin is just as often at their house as not.)

But it becomes the norm at Neil and Kevin's games. Andrew is always behind the team benches. While there are fans obsessed with analyzing every interaction between him and the former Foxes, every scrap of body language they can get footage of, overall, the Exy world considers it just another normal day if Kevin or Neil make their way to Andrew before their coach.

Then, Neil and Kevin have a game against one of their biggest rivals. Playing on that team? Jean and Jeremy. When Jean takes a hit mid game the fans and press go crazy when Neil not only defends Jean but nearly comes to blows with his own teammates over it. Kevin interceding is the only thing stopping Neil and it's obvious.

A timeout is called, and the crowd loses their minds when, without a hint of hesitation, Jean crosses the court, ignoring the shouts of his own team and coaches to stand in front of Andrew, who automatically pulls out his kit and begins checking over the former Trojan. Neil is right behind him, hovering while Andrew ensures Jean is safe to continue playing. Jeremy, meanwhile, is acting like this is routine, and once Andrew gives Jean a nod, he lopes back across the court to his waiting team.

There's no stopping the speculations now, and when Jean is asked about it after the game, he simply shrugs and says he trusts the man.

(No one knows that Jean and Jeremy are staying with Neil and Andrew while they're in town and that if Jean hadn't let Andrew check him at the game he would have gotten a lecture as well as being checked over when they all got home)
