Andrew being confused by Neil’s sexuality

Anxious to start off with when Neil doesn’t flirt, confusing Andrew to all hell until it clicks fully that of course Neil doesn’t see Andrew and make comments because Neil doesn’t swing like that

It becomes a comfort, Neil’s obviously interested in Andrew but it’s for Andrew not what Andrew looks like and can do

Neil lack of need to do anything more than Andrew is willing to give was another confusion. He doesn’t ask, why doesn’t he ask? Over time it becomes another comfort, repetition solidifies that Andrew doesn’t need to give more than he’s willing too, even if he says he won’t the fear of being pushed too has never left him.

How well Neil can read him surprised him too. The minuscule shifts Andrew doesn’t notice in himself sometimes that Neil picks up on perfectly. Explicit consent is still needed for peace of mind, he needs to know that what’s happening is wanted. But the days where his mind drifts more than it should Neil catches on faster than anyone else did, giving him space and asking what he needs.

I totally get the hc of Andrew having painted black nails but for the life of me i cannot see him painting his own nails or owning nail polish. Which leads me to believe i think he'd sharpie them black instead.

I imagine book 1 Andrew waking up after a bad night of rolling around, nightmares, feeling ghost hands over his skin, and all the comfort he gets is (even grumpier) Kevin waiting for him in the kitchen with his next dose. Like no wonder he hated his meds. (It must've felt like an insult to all he had overcome. (is my speculation))

Also Matt's 'I don't want to be here when Andrew's between doses.' Andrew wants the others to be afraid of him, because it's the easiest way, perhaps the only one he knows, to ensure they will always respect his boundaries and keep a distance. And then there comes Neil who's like: I've seen so much worse in my life than one "psychotic midget" idgaf, but he still respects those boundaries, he still doesn't cross any lines. And perhaps it gives Andrew a little bit of hope that he can still be respected without being feared. (is how I interpret it atm)

andrew starts bench pressing neil whenever he gets bored and neil just. goes with it. never asks a single question andrew just moves him and neil's like guess im being pushed into the air now. it becomes a regular enough thing that sometimes andrew will let neil watch exy while its happening because he can do a shit ton of reps and needs to keep neil entertained. at some point kevin walks in on them and goes on a lecture about safe fitness practices or whatever and then neil's like "ur just upset andrew can bench press me and you cant" which of course turns it into a team wide competition to see who can bench press neil the Most (matt seems to have it in the bag he even beats andrew's pr but andrew still wins thru the power of spite and ego)

Or was he getting so fed up in the dorms he solely went shopping to get clothes for Neil and got nothing else?

Did he go alone or did he drag Kevin, Nicky and Aaron? Did Kevin Nicky and Aaron know what he was doing if they were with him?

Like how long did he spend shopping for this outfit?? Where did he go? Was Andrew Minyard shopping at a MALL?? Canonically in 2006 it would make perfect sense. But then did he get the like all black edgy fit at Hot Topic? Or did he actually go for quality clothes and bought Neil like doc martens?

I need the monsters' summer mall day fic STAT. Andrew, on his meds, pissed off at Neil's clothes and deciding to drag him to Columbia, makes Nicky to take them all to the mall.

They go, Kevin following at Andrew's heel. Aaron disappears off to somewhere else. Nicky stays for a bit trying to get Andrew to tell him what he's getting but gives up and disappears into like bath and body works. Kevin stays with Andrew going from store to store and holding the bags as they went.

They take a break in the food court. Kevin's pissed off because it takes him forever to piece together a decent meal that wasn't too unhealthy and Andrew has a plateful of teriyaki chicken and a milkshake in front of him.

Like honestly this makes me think that maybe Andrew also helped Kevin buy clothes after he left the nest too.

nicky + the twins headcannons

andrew was a little blindsided by nicky taking custody. after tilda passed, andrew was expecting to go back into the system and he was ready to fight tooth and nail to stay with his brother and keep them both safe, or make luther and maria regret taking them in everyday the twins spent under the hemmick's roof.

andrew gave nicky a really wide berth for a really long time. in his mind, an adult man he doesn't know flies halfway across the world, leaving behind what sounds like a happy life, to get two underage boys alone in a house with him. at first, there's no "this is my cousin, this is my family." he doesn't know this person. he's never known this person. but he knows nicky's father. and andrew doesn't want that person alone with his brother.

neither twin really thought nicky was going to be a good guardian. both were expecting to fend for themselves a lot more than they ended up having to.

nicky spends the first several weeks cataloging every little detail about the twins that he can. aaron likes spicy food, andrew does not. andrew tears all his food into tiny pieces for some reason and aaron eats like a normal human being. andrew has a major sweet tooth. aaron also likes sweets, but prefers salty snacks. both twins always seem to be cold. both twins like to color-code things. both twins are right-handed and have horrific handwriting.

all the twins' teachers tell nicky that the boys are incredibly smart but don't seem to engage with their full potential. andrew excels at english and writing based classes while aaron flourishes in math and science.

nicky bakes a (pretty okay) cake for the twins birthday and presents it at breakfast. it's the first time someone actually bakes aaron a birthday cake.

nicky would purposely say or do things to get negative attention from the twins because he saw the way they would make eye contact across the room/the table when nicky would annoy them. he decides that letting them have a common enemy may help bring them a little closer than making an enemy out of each other.

it's nicky that teaches the twins to drive.

nicky remembers the first time each twin chose to spend time with him. aaron sat down beside him and silently watched the show nicky was finishing. andrew helped nicky clean up the kitchen on their birthday after nicky made them the cake.
