"Researchers at the National Cancer Research Centre in Spain (CNIO) have discovered a mechanism that is triggered just minutes after acute liver damage occurs—and it could lead to treatments for those with severe liver problems.
The avenues for future treatments of liver damage include a diet enriched with the amino acid glutamate.
“Glutamate supplementation can promote liver regeneration and benefit patients in recovery following hepatectomy or awaiting a transplant,” wrote the authors in a paper published in ‘Nature’.
The liver is a vital organ, crucial to digestion, metabolism, and the elimination of toxins. It has a unique ability to regenerate, which allows it to replace liver cells damaged by the very toxins that these cells eliminate.
However, the liver stops regenerating in cases of diseases that involve chronic liver damage–such as cirrhosis—and such diseases are becoming increasingly prevalent, associated with poor dietary habits or alcohol consumption. So activating liver regeneration is key to treating the disease.
Learning to activate liver regeneration is therefore a priority today, to benefit patients with liver damage and also those who’ve had part of their liver cut out to remove a tumor.
The research has discovered in animal models this previously unknown mechanism of liver regeneration. It is a process that is triggered very quickly, just a few minutes after acute liver damage occurs, with the amino acid glutamate playing a key role.
“Our results describe a fundamental and universal mechanism that allows the liver to regenerate after acute damage,” explained Nabil Djouder, head of the CNIO Growth Factors, Nutrients and Cancer Group and senior author of the study.
A “complex and ingenious” perspective on liver regeneration
Liver regeneration was known to occur through the proliferation of liver cells, known as hepatocytes. However, the molecular mechanisms involved were not fully understood. This current discovery is very novel, as it describes communication between two different organs, the liver and bone marrow, involving the immune system, according to a CINO news release.
The results show that liver and bone marrow are interconnected by glutamate. After acute liver damage, liver cells, called hepatocytes, produce glutamate and send it into the bloodstream; through the blood, glutamate reaches the bone marrow, inside the bones, where it activates monocytes, a type of immune system cell. Monocytes then travel to the liver and along the way become macrophages – also immune cells. The presence of glutamate reprograms the metabolism of macrophages, and these consequently begin to secrete a growth factor that leads to an increase in hepatocyte production.
In other words, a rapid chain of events allows glutamate to trigger liver regeneration in just minutes, through changes in the macrophage metabolism. It is, says Djouder, “a new, complex and ingenious perspective on how the liver stimulates its own regeneration.”
The research also clarifies a previously unanswered question: how the various areas of the liver are coordinated during regeneration. In the liver, there are different types of hepatocytes, organized in different areas; the hepatocytes in each area perform specific metabolic functions. The study reveals that hepatocytes producing a protein known as glutamine synthetase, which regulates glutamate levels, play a key role in regeneration.
According to the CNIO group, when glutamine synthetase is inhibited, there is more glutamate in circulation, which accelerates liver regeneration. This is what happens when the liver suffers acute damage: glutamine synthase activity decreases, blood glutamate increases, and from there, the connection with the bone marrow is established, reprogramming macrophages and stimulating hepatocyte proliferation.
Possible therapeutic applications
The experiments have been carried out in mice, but the results have been tested with bioinformatics tools, using databases of mouse and human hepatocytes.
According to Djouder, “dietary glutamate supplementation may simply be recommended in the future after liver extirpation, and also to reduce liver damage caused by cirrhosis.”
The first author of the paper, CNIO researcher María del Mar Rigual also wants future research to explore using glutamate supplements in humans who have undergone liver resection for tumor removal."

Why Does Physical Change Literally Happen?
{+1 explanation for the logical part of the brain}
“Will I just be pretending to myself?” “What is the logic in changing my current unwanted body for what I want to be and how others see me and this change?”
Some questions that go through our heads when we talk about manifesting the desired appearance, and this is normal. Let's demystify this and be absolutely sure to manifest more easily and quickly.
First no, you are not “faking it to yourself.” What you are doing is a process of mental self-reprogramming that uses the power of the mind to create a new internal reality, which will inevitably be reflected on the outside.
1. The Mind Doesn’t Distinguish Between Reality and Imagination
When you intensely imagine your desired body, your brain acts as if it were already true. It begins sending signals to your body to align your physiology with this new vision. This isn’t “faking it,” it’s literally reprogramming your system.
2. How Does Physical Change Literally Happen?
Your body is run by your brain. Everything it does—from regenerating cells to changing its structure—responds to instructions that you, consciously or not, send it. When you see yourself as the version of yourself you want to be, you are literally reprogramming your brain to create that physical change.
Examples in Science and Biology:
• Epigenetics: Your thoughts influence which genes are “turned on” or “turned off.” If you internally assume the identity of a person with the desired body, your body begins to align with that identity.
• Neuroplasticity: The brain reorganizes itself based on the beliefs you hold. It can change hormonal patterns, metabolic patterns, and even cellular regeneration to adapt to what you believe to be true.
3. Why Does Physical-Touchable Reality Change?
• Assumed Identity: When you believe that you already have the desired appearance, the body begins to respond with real physiological changes. For example, a mental model of “I am thin” can change hunger patterns and metabolism, while “I am young” can stimulate collagen production.
• Instructions to the Subconscious: The subconscious controls automatic functions of the body, such as cell regeneration and fat distribution. It accepts everything you imagine with emotion as absolute truth.
4. How Others See You
People see you through the energy and confidence you exude. If you are aligned with the feeling that you are already who you want to be, others will automatically begin to treat and see you that way.
• They may not know “how” or “when” you changed, but they will notice that something is different. This is because your self-confidence and inner congruence have a direct impact on social interactions.
5. You’re Not Pretending, You’re Choosing
When you decide that you are already the desired version of yourself, you’re not pretending, you’re taking on a new identity. This is a conscious exercise in creating the reality you want, and 3D has no choice but to reflect that decision.
6. Real-World Example to Make It More Concrete
1. People who underwent hypnosis believing they had real burns on their skin developed physical blisters—because their bodies responded to their minds.
2. Patients in placebo studies who “believed” they were taking a rejuvenation drug experienced real physical changes, such as improved skin and organs.
These are extreme examples, but they show that the mind instructs the physical body, and the body obeys. It’s not symbolic or “just in the imagination”—it’s a transformation that manifests itself in the tangible.
7. How to Make This Transformation Solid and Firm
To truly believe that your physical transformation is happening:
• Decide and Feel: “I already have this.” See your body as what you want, not what you “think it is.”
• Visualize Clearly: Imagine what it would be like to touch, see, and live with this body. Not just mentally, but as if it were already a reality.
• Believe in Inner Logic: Whatever your mind accepts as truth, your body will do. If you have assumed this new identity, your body has no choice but to follow.
It’s not pretending, nor is it wishful thinking. It’s using the power of your mind to literally transform your body into something physical and real.

Clearing Your Gut | THE IT GIRL DIARIES

Your gut is connected to multiple parts of your body, the main areas are your immune system, your heart and your brain but it has affects on a lot of other areas aswell, such as your skin, metabolism, hair.
I had an unhealthy gut and it was very noticeable, through my skin, weight all the way down to my emotional state.
It's very important to take care of your gut, it affects your body inwards and outwards.
Here are a few things I did to clear my gut that could help you too
Began eating balanced meals ( make sure your meals have a mix of healthy carbs, protein and healthy fats such as avocado or beans ect )
Cut out sugar ( I have a very sweet tooth so I was consuming artificial sugar almost EVERY DAY and that affected me so much, especially my skin and it showed. Cut out artificial sugar and try replacing it with healthy glucose foods such as strawberries, watermelon, oranges, berries or make your own sweets mixed with honey, lemon and ginger, similar to cough drops. If you can't cut out sugar completely, limit your intake instead )
Began drinking green juices ( i drink one everyday but a few times a week is more than enough )
Added leafy greens into all of my meals including my snacks ( if you're already consuming a lot of greens then you're more than welcome to skip the green juices )
Exercise ( when i say exercise, i don't mean you have to be hitting the gym everyday for 2 hours, i jump on a bike for 15-30 min and it does the job, the goal is just to move your body so that your body burns fat instead of storing it )
Fixed my sleeping schedule ( i used to have really bad insomnia, your brain needs atleast 8 hours of rest to reprogram and function well for the next day )
GINGER ( i include ginger into my green juices and it's a game changer, but if you're not planning on drinking green juices, try incorporating ginger elsewhere, such as ginger tea or even just eating a tiny block will do )
Limit alcohol intake and quit smoking! ( this is very important, nicotine and tabbaco can have major negative affects on your health but this should be common sense )
Lastly Water ( this shouldn't be something that's new, we need water, our bodies need water in order to flush out bacteria and hydrate our body but make sure you drink enough, I started drinking atleast 2-3 liters everyday. Tip: get an aesthetic everyday water bottle that's atleast 1 litre, this will hopefully encourage you to drink water )
remember that everyone's body is different and some people might need to make more changes in their lifestyle in order to clear their gut, do you research and try making changes that cater to your needs.

Avenger! Bucky Barnes x Winter Soldier! Fem! Reader
Summary: While on a mission to find any more possible super soldiers that were a part of the Winter Soldier program, Steve and Bucky make a discovery in an abandoned HYDRA base that was cleared out a few years prior to their mission. They discover the Reader, a long-forgotten soldier that was still asleep within a functioning cryostasis pod; still awaiting orders. While Bucky isn't happy about it, he is put up to the challenge of helping to rehabilitate the soldier in Wakanda where she may be able to become a person again.

A/n: That last chapter was so much fun to write, I really do hope that you guys enjoyed it too! We got to see a bit of backstory, so lets get another look but from the outside ;) Also, if you enjoy my work, please consider buying me a coffee! If you would prefer to read Rehab on Archive, you may do so right HERE!
This is an au where Bucky joined the avengers but still rehabilitated in Wakanda (sometime before Infinity War [canon divergent cause NOPE]). I am NOT fluent in Russian, so I did use google translate cause I couldn't find a good translator that I trusted. If anything is wrong, PLEASE let me know!! Also, I tried to list as many warnings as possible so you know what the story will contain as chapters are posted. Stay safe!

rehab masterlist. chapter 10
The Avengers had been working tirelessly since the moment they had put the soldier under general anesthesia. They had placed on a mask onto her that was delivering a constant flow of Desflurane due to the soldier's heightened metabolism posing a risk of causing the medicine to wear off too fast. Shuri and Tony had been able to locate the chip within the auditorial cortex of the temporal lobe of the soldier's brain after a bit of imaging and scanning her brain thoroughly.
Due to the significant risk that came with operating in the temporal lobe, Shuri and Tony were using Shuri's digital representation of the soldier's brain to guide the surgery. When the chip was finally extracted, both of the scientists were feeling highly accomplished.
Once the surgery was over, they stitched and stapled the soldier back up before Shuri began to work on implementing her safeguards and destroying HYDRA's programming once more, Clint watching over her shoulder with curiosity as she worked. During this time, Tony was analyzing the chip with Natasha, Bucky, T'Challa, and Steve.
"So, not only was this chip used to deliver messages and recite the trigger words in the case of an emergency, it was also the thing that was attempting to continuously reprogram her. With this thing out, I bet our soldier is gonna start remembering a lot more."
Bucky and Steve both looked happy, but Natasha and T'Challa both had apprehensive looks on their faces. Steve asked, glancing at Tony as the man bit into a pear.
"You're saying that she's gonna be able to remember everything?"
Tony looked nonchalant as he replied, shrugging his shoulders before throwing a couple grapes into his mouth.
"Well, I can't exactly say that for sure. I mean, statistically speaking, she has about a 60% recovery rate for all memories. With how many times they scrambled her eggs, I'd say that number gets lower and lower due to the neurological trauma her brain went through."
Natasha added, tilting her head slightly and shrugging.
"Not to mention all the torture that they put her through. There's probably a ton of stuff she shouldn't remember."
Shuri's voice made all of the Avengers look at her, the woman giving them a look as she continued to fiddle with the soldier's programs, the red parts of her brain disappearing bit by bit.
"That is her choice to make. We must remember that this is all dependent on her. While she was a conditioned agent of HYDRA, we need to acknowledge her progress from before her reactivation. She was eating, she remembered her career with the CIA, and she was actively communicating without permission with Sergeant Barnes and I."
Bucky nodded then, adding.
"I have to agree with Shuri. While remembering everything that HYDRA did sucked...I'm thankful that I at least had that choice. We need to let the woman decide for herself when she wakes up."
Tony shrugged before he stated.
"Listen, I did my part with this. The only thing that I can tell you is that the chip is definitely from HYDRA, but it looks to be a fairly old technology. There isn't really a signature or a serial number that I can see."
Shuri shook her head, waving her hand at Tony.
"Please, allow me to finish this and then I will show you how wrong you are."
Clint whistled low, shaking his head.
"Someone telling Stark that he's wrong? I think it might be the end of the world all over again."
Tony gave Clint an offended look before T'Challa sighed, his patience beginning to run thin.
"On other news, have we been able to locate Rollins? Seeing as he seemed to already know that we were going to be there, he must have planned for such interruptions. Is it possible that he prepared for the worst?"
Natasha nodded, bringing up a hologram of the black book pages that had been translated, saying as Steve nodded alongside her.
"The book on this winter soldier detailed how difficult she was to program and to keep programmed. With the preexisting knowledge of her history of memory lapses, it's possible that Rollins knew she was going to remember...and he might have some intel about Princess Shuri's rehabilitation program that she used on Bucky."
Steve crossed his arms, stating as Bucky sat back against a table, his gaze lingering on the soldier that was still and sleeping deeply; Shuri sparing him a quiet and worried glance before going back to work.
"Even so, we should keep running those biometric programs until we get a hit or a lead. Have we been able to get in touch with the Director of the CIA?"
Tony took out his phone, typing for a little while before he put the phone on speaker. It was ringing, and Natasha couldn't help but to smirk to herself as the phone was answered.
"Hello?"
"Hello Director, I was wondering if you could spare a few minutes of your time and resources."
The Director seemed to sputter, asking with a stern and aggressive tone of voice.
"Who the hell is this? How did you get this number?"
Tony made a noise of shock, clutching his chest with a dramatic head-nod, gesturing to wipe invisible sweat off of his brow.
"Seriously? You can't tell? I'm almost ready to cry, everyone. It's Tony Stark. You know: genius, billionaire, playboy, philanthropist?...ugh, Iron Man?"
"I get it! What the hell do you want, Stark?"
Steve just rolled his eyes, and Tony explained.
"Well, I've been trying to reach you for a while now, but all my calls were left unanswered. Can you imagine my sorrow? Anywho, the Avengers have a mission that requires your cooperation and clearance for us to get into some archives...unless you can share the information?"
The Director was silent for a moment, seeming to mull over his next decision. He asked after a moment.
"It depends. Some of the information that we have is classified, Mr. Stark, and sensitive enough that not even the Avengers can have clearance. What exactly is your mission, sir?"
"We just need access to a couple of records about a woman that used to work within the Directorate of Science and Technology. As you can guess, we have some classified information too, but the only thing that I can tell you is that this woman was a receiver of the Career Intelligence reward and had to be apart of the agency before the 1980's."
The Director hummed, repeating the information to himself quietly before sighing.
"Alright, Mr. Stark, what I can do is gather as many files as I can, but you understand that this will take some time? You haven't even provided me with a name."
Tony admitted, shrugging his shoulders.
"We don't know her name yet, which is why we're coming to you about this. My suggestion is to look for any woman with remarkable scientific work or went missing at least before 1980."
"Might I ask what this might be about?"
"Nope."
Tony then hung up, and Natasha snickered slightly.
"Well, that went well. Why didn't we do that earlier?"
"You...did hear me when I said they weren't returning my calls, right?"
Steve just sighed, and Bucky offered with a shrug.
"I mean, this is still progress as long as the Director is willing to actually send those documents over. I think until then, we should really focus on finding Rollins."
T'Challa nodded, urging.
"It would be in our best interest to do so. We don't know what other tricks he may have up his sleeve. While the soldier is now free of that device, there is no telling what else it can do even when outside of her body."
Shuri cut in, shaking her head as she paused her work with an exhausted sigh, hands on her hips.
"It won't be an issue once I, or Stark, take it apart. There is going to be a calling card or a signature for the device. No sensible scientist would ever leave his work to be unknown."
Tony nodded, pointing towards Shuri while glancing over at T'Challa.
"The princess has a point."
Steve then declared, nodding to every Avenger in the room respectively.
"Then you two should get started on taking that apart. Clint and I can make a house call to the CIA to help with the investigation, and Natasha and Bucky, you guys watch over the soldier."
Natasha chuckled as Clint stuck his tongue out at her with a smug look on his face.
"Don't make that face at me. The CIA would be stupid to let me walk through those doors. Information wonderland."
Tony sighed with a mock look of adoration, placing his hand against his arc reactor.
"God, don't you just love it when Cap takes control? You know how to really spangle my stars, Rogers."
"Please don't ever say that again."
Clint made a face of disgust as Steve just shook his head while closing his eyes, and Bucky couldn't help but to add, making Steve glare at him.
"Well, you are the man with a plan."
"Listen, don't do anything stupid, alright?"
Bucky snorted, winking at Steve.
"How can I when you're taking all the stupid with you?"
When everyone dispersed, Bucky walked towards a chair and sat down in it, staring at the soldier as she slept. There were a million thoughts running through his mind, and he was aware of Natasha watching him. The woman sat down on the other side of the soldier, stating as she looked over the horrific scars that littered her body.
"Looks like they really had it in for her."
"Not surprised, honestly. HYDRA didn't like it when you displayed any sense of free-will. Considering that she was pretty difficult to program, I wouldn't put it past the Handlers and Enforcer's to get angry."
Natasha nodded before she spared Bucky a glance.
"You know, you keep looking at her as if you know her."
Bucky became uncomfortable, glancing over at Natasha with a grimace before pursing his lips and looking back at her.
"She knows something about Meltzer Woods...back from where I was born. It's been bothering me for a while."
"It's deeper than that. I can see the look in your eyes."
Natasha pressed, staring down at him with a friendly yet scrutinizing gaze, and Bucky's shoulders fell slightly.
"There's something familiar about her. I can't really place it. I don't know if she's one of the Winter Soldier's that I had to train back at HYDRA or...or if maybe...maybe I'm the reason she doesn't have anybody to miss her."
Natasha was quiet, crossing her arms and sitting back in her chair a bit. Her gaze was back on the soldier, watching as the soldier's face scrunched slightly and sweat began to pearl at her temples. Grabbing a cold wash cloth, Natasha gently dabbed her face.
"Even if that's true, you're something that is familiar for her. I think you could use that to your advantage as you have been. If you are a cause of something...then I think then that you owe it to her to make sure she becomes someone that she can be proud of again."
Bucky was quiet for a moment before he mumbled.
"When did you get so damn wise, Romanov?"
"I know what it's like to not be given a choice too."
Natasha and Bucky shared a look before Natasha glanced over at Tony and Shuri, watching as they spoke as Tony carefully took the chip apart.
"You think that we could trace the main signal back to Rollins?"
"Do you think it's possible to do that?"
Natasha shrugged before taking out a stick of beef jerky and biting into it nonchalantly.
"No clue...but just let me know when you're ready to have the file."
Bucky gave the woman a confused look, and Natasha's only response was to chew her jerky loudly.
"Unbelievable. I don't even wanna know."
"Technology has really improved the last few years, Smithsonian."
Bucky just rolled his eyes.
"Whatever."
-STEVE-
Back in the United States, Steve and Clint were currently being escorted through the CIA, the Director wagging his finger with disdain and exasperation as he led the two Avengers into the archives.
"Unbelievable. He can somehow get a hold of my number and yet can't give me anymore details about why the hell he wants into the archives?"
Steve cleared his throat while Clint just rolled his eyes, making a face at the back of the Director's head.
"Sir, with all due respect, this is an information-sensitive mission. We're just needing to identify someone to get a lead on a...missing persons case."
The Director looked at Steve, who gave him an expressionless look, and the Director huffed before muttering.
"This better be no goddamn trick. That goddamn Stark..."
The Director began to grumble to himself before he granted access into the archives. Escorting the two through the shelves, the man gestured the two men to a desk that was situated in the middle of the room where a box was already sitting.
"I located as many files as I could on previous employees that were employed in the Directorate of Science and Technology that received any awards and medals for their service. It goes back all the way to when the CIA was first founded in 1947."
Steve nodded, and Clint clapped his hands together.
"Alright, let's get started."
Steve looked at the director, nodding his head in thanks.
"Thank you, Director, your help is very appreciated."
The Director pursed his lips before huffing.
"Don't thank me. Just make sure to tell Stark to delete my damn number."
Clint snorted to himself, muttering as the Director walked away.
"Good luck with that. He's like a damn mosquito we can't get rid of."
Steve rolled his eyes, and the two men began to sift through the files. As the two men read and worked, Steve watched as the Director kept a close eye on them, speaking into a phone though Steve couldn't tell what he was saying. Looking back down, Steve murmured.
"You think the Director might know something?"
"Considering that HYDRA has ears and eyes everywhere? I wouldn't be surprised if a few rats were still looking for cheese."
Clint didn't even bother to look up, reading like lightning through the files before he hummed, picking up a file and grinning.
"I found our girl."
Steve was wide-eyed, a look of accomplishment flashing through his eyes.
"Great job, Clint."
Clint slipped the photo off of the file and hummed, a sad look coming over his face as he gazed at the unmarred face of the Winter Soldier.
"Man, they were really unforgiving with her...look how excited she is."
Steve gently grabbed the photo, and a strange feeling began to fill his chest as he stared into the characteristic eyes of the woman. His chest was tight, his eyes feeling a bit wet, and though his heart hurt for the woman and what she went through with HYDRA, he was also beginning to feel angry.
"(Y/n) (L/n), daughter of Robert and Doris (L/n). She was a Princeton graduate with honors, was valedictorian in her high school, and she was hired onto the CIA when she was 24 and fresh out of college and passed their exams with flying colors."
Steve's interest was perked by the name Robert (L/n), and he asked Clint as he grabbed the file from his hand to read through it.
"Does it say anything about Robert (L/n)?"
Clint shrugged and replied.
"Not a lot. He was a very prestigious scientist, uh...that's about it. I could ask Tony to look into it though."
Steve nodded, and he began to read through (Y/n)'s file more before he whispered to himself.
"Well, that's not surprising."
"What is it?"
Steve took a deep breath before reading the file out loud to Clint.
"(Y/n) (L/n) of the Directorate of Science & Technology was announced deceased December 18th, 1979. Cause of Death: REDACTED."
Clint hummed before he held up the file.
"We should probably ask to make a copy of this."
Steve nodded, and when the two men approached the Director after being patted down to ensure no information had been stolen, the Director frowned heavily.
"Did you find what you were looking for?"
"Yes. Would you be willing to make a copy of this file for us so that we can do more research?"
The Director hummed, his eyebrows shooting up as he read the name on the file.
"(Y/n) (L/n), huh? I remember her actually."
Steve and Clint shared a look together, and Clint asked.
"Director, did you ever work with Ms. (L/n)?"
"Not like that, no. Science wasn't really my interest, but Ms. (L/n) was very talented. When she was awarded the Career Intelligence award back in 1981, she had greatly shaped the way the Directorate of Science & Technology viewed and applied the sciences. She advanced a lot of the methods, scientific and military technologies, and was damn-near a genius. Why do you want to know about her?"
Steve and Clint both wore apologetic faces, and the Director just squinted before handing them both a complete copy of the files.
"You know what, I don't even wanna know. You both have a good day. Don't forget to tell Stark to delete my damn number."
Steve nodded, saluting before he left, and the two Avengers gave a sigh of relief the second they stepped out of the agency.
"He was weird to you too, right? Like...I'm not the only one that doesn't really like that guy?"
"It's not just you. There was something weird about him...he knows something. He was nervous the whole time that we were there."
Clint made a face of annoyance before stating.
"The plot thickens. Let's just get back to Wakanda and see what Tony finds."

STORY NOTES: The Avengers have been working nonstop since they have put the winter soldier under strong general anesthetics. Tony and Shuri performed a successful surgery to remove the chip from the winter soldier, who is now being allowed to recover outside of cryostasis. Shuri has begun to work on removing the winter soldier programming once more while Tony, Natasha, T'Challa, Bucky, and Steve analyze the chip.
Tony discovers that the chip was able to trigger the winter soldier reprogramming sequence as well as send out messages to the soldier. It is not concrete whether the soldier will remember everything, but Shuri and Bucky both advocate for it to be the soldier's choice to do so if she wants.
T'Challa asks about Rollins, which Natasha theorizes that Rollins knew the winter soldier was going to start remembering the second she was out of cryostasis, and so he made sure to remotely retrigger the winter soldier so nobody would know his whereabouts. Steve asks if Tony was able to get in touch with the Director of the CIA, in which Tony directly calls the Director.
After a slightly heated exchange, the Director allows the Avengers limited and supervised access to the files that they need, and Clint and Steve set out to return to the USA to get into the archives. Shuri and Tony are tasked with dissecting the chip and figuring out its creator, and Natasha and Bucky are tasked with watching over the soldier.
While everyone disperses, Natasha makes a comment to Bucky that he keeps looking at the soldier as if he knew her, which Bucky comments that he is bothered that the soldier mentioned Meltzer Woods, a State Park located within Bucky's hometown of Shelbyville, Indiana. However, Natasha calls out Bucky for lying, and Bucky finally reveals that the soldier does, indeed, feel familiar. He is unsure if the Winter Soldier is one that he trained back in his HYDRA days or if she was a previous target.
Natasha tells Bucky that even if such theories are true, he is something that is familiar to the Winter Soldier, and that he owes the winter soldier to make sure she 'becomes someone she can be proud of again'. Natasha then makes a comment about if Tony could trace the main signal back to Rollins, and when Bucky asks if it's possible, Natasha gives a vague remark, revealing that she has information on Rollins.
In the USA at the CIA, Steve and Clint have gained access to the archives. After a bit of research through the files that the Director gathered for them, Clint is able to locate the Winter Soldier's file. The file reveals that the Winter Soldier's name is (Y/n) (L/n) and was officially declared deceased December 18th, 1979. They decide to ask the Director to make a copy of the file, who allows them to do so. The Director reveals that he knew (Y/n), and he comments that she helped shape the way the CIA applied their science and technologies.
Once Steve and Clint exit out of the agency, Clint makes a comment on the strange behavior that the Director had exhibited and asks if Steve had noticed as well. Steve agrees, and they decide to wait to do any research until they both arrived back into Wakanda. End scene.

A deadly fungus has been turned into a potent cancer-fighting compound after researchers isolated a new class of molecules from it.
Aspergillus flavus, a toxic crop fungus linked to deaths in the excavations of ancient tombs—such as that of the boy pharaoh Tutankhamon—was recently used in a test against leukemia cells.
The result? A promising cancer-killing compound that rivals FDA-approved drugs and opens up new frontiers in the discovery of more fungal medicines.
“Fungi gave us penicillin,” says Sherry Gao, Presidential Compact Associate Professor at the University of Pennsylvania and senior author of a new paper in Nature Chemical Biologyon. “These results show that many more medicines derived from natural products remain to be found.”
After archaeologists opened King Tutankhamun’s tomb in the 1920s, a series of untimely deaths among the excavation team fueled rumors of a pharaoh’s curse. Decades later, doctors theorized that fungal spores, dormant for millennia, could have played a role.
In the 1970s, a dozen scientists entered the tomb of Casimir IV in Poland. Within weeks, 10 of them died. Later investigations revealed the tomb contained Aspergillus flavus, named for its yellow spores, whose toxins can lead to lung infections, especially in people with compromised immune systems.
Now, that same fungus is the unlikely source of a promising new cancer therapy.
The therapy in question is a class of ribosomally synthesized and post-translationally modified peptides, or RiPPs, pronounced like the “rip” in a piece of fabric. The name refers the ribosome, a tiny cellular structure that makes proteins, including RiPP.
“Purifying these chemicals is difficult,” says Qiuyue Nie, a postdoctoral fellow and the paper’s first author. While thousands of RiPPs have been identified in bacteria, only a handful have been found in fungi. In part, this is because past researchers misidentified fungal RiPPs as non-ribosomal peptides and had little understanding of how fungi created the molecules.
“The synthesis of these compounds is complicated,” adds Nie. “But that’s also what gives them this remarkable bioactivity.”
To find more fungal RiPPs, the researchers first scanned a dozen strains of Aspergillus, which previous research suggested might contain more of the chemicals. By comparing chemicals produced by these strains with known RiPP building blocks, the researchers identified A. flavus as a promising candidate for further study.
Genetic analysis pointed to a particular protein in A. flavus as a source of fungal RiPPs. When the researchers turned the genes that create that protein off, the chemical markers indicating the presence of RiPPs also disappeared.
This novel approach of combining metabolic and genetic information not only pinpointed the source of fungal RiPPs in A. flavus but could be used to find more fungal RiPPs in the future.
After purifying four different RiPPs, the researchers found the molecules shared a unique structure of interlocking rings. The researchers named these molecules, which have never been previously described, after the fungus in which they were found: asperigimycins.
Even with no modification, when mixed with human cancer cells, asperigimycins demonstrated medical potential: two of the four variants had potent effects against leukemia cells.
OTHER GIFTS FROM THE WORLD OF FUNGI: Ingredient Found in All Mushrooms Can Reprogram Immune Cells to Fight Deadly Flu Infections
Another variant, to which the researchers added a lipid, or fatty molecule, that is also found in the royal jelly that nourishes developing bees, performed as well as cytarabine and daunorubicin, two FDA-approved drugs that have been used for decades to treat leukemia.
Inside the leukemia cells, a gene called SLC46A3, proved critical in allowing asperigimycins to enter leukemia cells in sufficient numbers, which has given the team the idea that it might be a pathway for other, already developed remedies called cyclic peptides, to enter and kill a leukemia cell.
“Knowing that lipids can affect how this gene transports chemicals into cells gives us another tool for drug development,” says Nie.
Through further experimentation, the researchers found that asperigimycins likely disrupt the process of cell division. Notably, the compounds had little to no effect on breast, liver or lung cancer cells, or a range of bacteria and fungi, suggesting that asperigimycins’ disruptive effects are specific to certain types of cells, a critical feature for any future medication.
NOVEL CANCER TREATMENTS: Scientists Identify New Way Cancers Sustain Themselves–and How Ginger Could Disrupt it
In addition to demonstrating the medical potential of asperigimycins, the researchers identified similar clusters of genes in other fungi, suggesting that more fungal RiPPs remain to be discovered.
“Even though only a few have been found, almost all of them have strong bioactivity,” says Nie. “This is an unexplored region with tremendous potential.”
“Nature has given us this incredible pharmacy,” says Gao. “It’s up to us to uncover its secrets. As engineers, we’re excited to keep exploring, learning from nature and using that knowledge to design better solutions.”

🧠 BLACKSITE BULLETIN — “MANTRAS FOR THE UNTOUCHABLE CREATIVE”
Hello, fellow creatives.
Let’s be honest.
It’s not easy out here.
Some of you have hands made of poetry —
and timelines full of critics
who couldn’t craft a meaningful sentence
even if you ghostwrote it for them.
You show up.
You make art.
You *risk being seen.*
And the moment your light hits the edge of someone else’s insecurity?
They bark.
They sneer.
They try to poison you.
So here’s what we do.
We build our armor.
Below is a **Mental Shield List** —
Mantras for creators like you who walk the edge of self-doubt and brilliance.
Use them in your head, in the mirror, under your breath —
or scream them at the coward in your comments section.
---
🧱 MENTAL SHIELD MANTRAS — REPEAT AS NEEDED:
1. 🛡️ “Your projection isn’t my truth.”
2. 🔥 “I’m not here to be safe. I’m here to be *seen.*”
3. 🗡️ “You don’t like me because you recognize yourself — *but unfinished.*”
4. 💣 “My art reached you. You failed to reach *back.*”
5. 🚫 “I don’t take edits from people who don’t *create.*”
6. 🧬 “If you weren’t triggered, it wouldn’t be art.”
7. 👑 “I don’t shrink for cowards. I post *bigger.*”
8. 🧠 “My soul costs too much for you to appraise it.”
9. ⏳ “Your opinion is temporary. My work is not.”
10. ⚡ “Every hater is just a fan that couldn’t metabolize me.”
—
This list isn’t just survival.
It’s *strategy.*
When you internalize their hatred, you delay your next masterpiece.
When you believe their bitterness, you waste your breath on ghosts.
When you hold back your light to make them more comfortable?
You betray the part of you that *was born for this.*
So don’t.
Don’t water yourself down for palates that can’t taste power.
Don’t doubt yourself because the broken don’t clap.
Don’t ever apologize for the brilliance that *offends the dim.*
—
Let this be your internal script.
Let this be the voice you hear louder than theirs.
Let this be your backup when your faith in yourself flickers.
And next time someone tries to tear you down?
Look them in the eye and say:
> “I don’t answer to failure.
I’m too busy *writing* the world.”
💬 Save this list for your dark days

Researchers analyzed bone marrow samples from three groups using untargeted metabolomics, a powerful technique that detects thousands of small molecules reflecting real-time cellular activity:
Vaccinated leukemia patients (n=7) — all of whom developed leukemia within 15 to 63 days after receiving Pfizer’s BNT162b2 COVID-19 mRNA injection
Unvaccinated leukemia patients with no history of COVID-19 (n=2)
Healthy, unvaccinated individuals (n=7)
Here’s what they found:
As expected, the metabolic profiles of both leukemia groups were markedly different from healthy controls—showing classic cancer-linked changes like:
↑ Glycolysis (sugar breakdown)
↑ Pentose phosphate pathway (nucleotide synthesis and redox balance)
Altered tryptophan metabolism, known to create an immunosuppressive tumor environment
Disrupted heme metabolism, involved in red blood cell formation and oxidative stress
However, the vaccinated leukemia group showed additional, distinct metabolic alterations that were not present in unvaccinated leukemia patients, including:
↑ Tetrahydrofolic acid — vital for DNA synthesis, repair, and methylation. Uniquely elevated in vaccinated leukemia patients, possibly reflecting folate cycle modulation or compensatory changes in nucleotide metabolism.
↑ Phosphorylcholine — a marker of altered membrane metabolism, linked to tumor progression, lipid signaling, and immune activation. Elevated only in vaccinated leukemia patients, contrasting with a decrease in unvaccinated leukemia cases.
↑ N-Formyl-L-glutamic acid / N-Acetyl-L-aspartic acid — involved in amino acid and mitochondrial metabolism. Significantly elevated in vaccinated leukemia patients, not seen in unvaccinated leukemia individuals.
↑ Delta 8.14-Sterol — a sterol lipid involved in membrane structure and cellular signaling. Increased only in the vaccinated leukemia group, potentially indicating vaccine-induced disruption of lipid regulation.
All seven vaccinated leukemia patients developed cancer within two months of mRNA injection.

Better Late Than Dead
Fandom: The Bad Batch Rating: Teen and Up Audiences Pairing: Tech/Phee Word Count: 1268 Summary: Tech arrives on Pabu for the first time since he was rescued from Dr. Hemlock, and put his mind back together (mostly). A special someone is there waiting for him. AUTHOR'S NOTE: Disclaimer, I have PCS (Post-Concussion Syndrome) so this story could be a mess, it could be great. I don't know, but I tried, and I had fun. First story I've written since I hit my head. I am sooooo nervous about it for some reason. This fandom seems like nothing but kind, though. If you read it, thank you. READ ON AO3
Tech paused getting off the ramp. Once he stepped off onto Pabu he would no longer just be on the Marauder with his family. He would exist in a public space, with people who… might not understand, who would see him differently. He was different.
There were some stares from the crowd, but he couldn’t track all of them, faces blurring and disappearing as he watched. But maybe those eyes were still on him.
Subconsciously, he touched the back of his head, feeling the metal plate there that replaced part of his skull, felt the lines where his scalp had split, where either through injury or one of his many surgeries his brain had been exposed. His new and enhanced left eye (replacing the gouged one from Plan 99) searched the space before him frantically, but he tried to take in what the right saw first: bright, blue skies with white, puffy clouds; a calm ocean for kilometers on end; happy people in colorful clothing—survivors, every one of them. How could such a place exist when he’d been through such horrors in Hemlock’s dark labs? Now it was like this beautiful place only half-existed.
The beauty was what his right eye saw. The left one… He hadn’t had a chance to reprogram it yet. Most of what he saw through it was a dizzying array of heat signatures, structural integrities, and the best places to shoot a target. According to his eye, everyone was a target. This was all superimposed over his regular vision from his right eye. The confusing signals to his brain usually left him with the feeling as if his eyes were being scooped out (half a phantom pain and reminiscent of his real horrors), and it would throb up into his head. With the metal plate added in, he had more headaches than he could manage on most days.
Still feeling anxiety churning in his gut; cold, clammy fear gripping the back of his neck and stripping him bare, he held up his new datapad. Tech decided to do a quick check of his metabolic system, and the absorption levels of his various injected pain meds, and their half-lives. This was done through a chip implanted at the base of his skull. Unfortunately that had required an extra surgery, seeing as that hadn’t fit in the area where he’d needed his skull repaired.
His datapad beeped quietly, and a yellow bar showed up near the top. He’d need to re-inject his left hip soon.
Tech glanced up, the real galaxy around him becoming too real. Coming towards the ramp with a hesitant smile and shining eyes was Phee.
His heart suddenly seemed too big, blood somehow beating hard all across his torso, even as it crawled up his throat. Phee. He really had thought of her, even remembered one instance of Hemlock torturing him for mentioning her name. He shuddered, his mechanical left leg shifting in a way that seemed too obvious and inhuman to him.
Tech wasn’t the same.
Am I even Tech?
No, no. You’ve… you’ve been over this already. Done the work. I. Am. Tech.
And he had thought about Phee in what he had thought would be his last moments. He’d surprisingly had the time to think about a lot of people.
He’d thought about his last-minute realization, and he’d mourned what could have been. And now… there she was. Here he was. Pabu. Safety. Phee.
Tech took a deep breath, tried to swallow back his fear, and stepped down the ramp, all too aware of how he looked now. Feeling clumsy with this changed body, he struggled to put his datapad back on his belt. One last thing to put between this moment and the next, the inevitable.
Phee met him at the bottom of the ramp, letting him step off. For a moment the voices around them dimmed, but neither of them spoke.
Oh no, she’s horrified. She’s disgusted. She’s—
“You look different.”
Blunt, as always.
“Oh.”
“I think I like it.”
“You… do?” Tech asked, caught off guard as he usually was with her. (How could anyone script conversations with a flirtatious, bold pirate?)
She shrugged. Was she… crying?
Some of his vision blurred. His eye malfunctioning? No. His right one. He was crying.
Hesitantly, she touched his shoulder. Tech jumped a little, but let her warm, assuring touch stay there. He wondered what that hand felt like—strong, calloused.
“It’s you, isn’t it?”
Was this him? All these differences, and injuries, and modifications?
Well, he was still Tech, so he supposed that made the plate in his skull him, the chip, the cybernetic leg, and eye. Still… Tech. Just different. A new Tech.
“I suppose.” He was surprised to hear himself speak.
“Then of course I like it! But I have a bone to pick with you.”
Tech almost backed away, startled, as her finger prodded against his chest.
What bone?
What—Oh!
“Seven months?!” she went on, voice raised and rough. “I don’t see you for seven months?! And all I could get out of Mr. Face Tattoo was that you were ‘indisposed.’”
“Sorry I’m… late,” he got out, as if that somehow summed up everything that had changed his life, that had even affected hers.
That’s when a sob left Phee, and her tears spilled, and she cupped Tech’s scarred face in her hand. It was calloused, just like he’d thought it’d be. Something about her touch was reassuring and invigorating all at once.
And it was kind.
Tech hadn’t realized how much he’d needed someone outside his family to support him until that moment. It left him weak in his right knee, and he might have trembled.
Phee sobbed again, and then got out with a smile bright enough to rival the stars, “But still—better late than dead, I always say.”
Tech held her hand against his face for a second, marveling at the feeling, her words. Then he wasn’t sure who pulled who into an embrace, but suddenly she was flush against him, her heart beating fast, chest moving with her sobs, a wild scent of ocean salt, island fruit, and some kind of warm spice surrounding him. With his chin tucked against her shoulder, and her head resting against his he learned her hair was a softness he’d never felt before.
“Though of course you had to lose one brown eye on me,” she joked. He was surprised when it didn’t hurt, not from her.
“I’ll try not to lose the other one.”
“You’d better. What am I supposed to call you now? ‘Brown Eye’ doesn’t sound romantic.”
“We could… make it romantic,” he ventured, voice a soft murmur against her.
Phee laughed, and pulled back, patting his cheek. “Honey, I’m not sure you know what romance is.”
For the first time since Plan 99, months and months ago, Tech laughed—something he’d thought he would never be capable of again. And, he thought, maybe he’d like to do it again. With Phee.
“I’m smart,” he assured her, watching as she wiped away her tears, wishing he could do it for her. He went on, surprising himself, “I’m sure I can learn.”
Phee took his hand in hers, and Tech was startled by how much he enjoyed that her hand was smaller than his.
“Well, come on then,” she said, starting to drag him along, towards society as a whole new person. “You’re gonna have a lot of studying to do.”
Tech smiled, somehow, as he followed her, leaving just a little bit of that dark lab behind him.

Abstract
Background: Leukemia is marked by clonal hematopoietic stem cell expansion and metabolic reprogramming. The BNT162b2 mRNA COVID-19 vaccine has been proven effective, though questions remain about its broader physiological effects. This study investigates metabolomic alterations in leukemic bone marrow potentially associated with BNT162b2 vaccination.
Objective: To compare the bone marrow metabolomic profiles of leukemia patients with and without BNT162b2 vaccination, and healthy unvaccinated controls, to explore potential metabolic differences.
Methods: Bone marrow samples were obtained from three groups: vaccinated leukemia patients (n=7), unvaccinated leukemia patients without COVID-19 history (n=2), and unvaccinated healthy controls (n=7). Untargeted metabolomics was performed using LC-QTOF-MS. Data were analyzed using XCMS and MetaboAnalyst 5.0 to identify statistically significant metabolite differences and affected pathways. Fold change >1.5 and p<0.05 were considered significant.
Results: Distinct metabolic profiles were observed between the leukemia and control groups. Increased glycolysis, pentose phosphate pathway activity, and altered tryptophan, lipid, and heme metabolism were noted in leukemia samples. Metabolic changes in vaccinated patients (ASL) were more similar to unvaccinated leukemia patients (LO) than to healthy controls, with minor vaccine-associated variations. Notable metabolites included 5-methoxyindoleacetate, phosphorylcholine, and tetrahydrofolic acid.
Conclusion: This preliminary study identified altered metabolic pathways in leukemia bone marrow and suggests metabolomic differences associated with BNT162b2 vaccination. While the findings do not support a causal link between mRNA vaccination and leukemia development, they highlight the need for further studies to understand vaccine-induced metabolic modulation in hematological contexts.

How to Shift the Body into the Parasympathetic Side of the Nervous System
Breathing out and holding out or pausing at the bottom of the breath amplifies the body's natural production of Nitric Oxide, a vasodilator that expands the porosity of our vascular system. During Covid, researchers at Massachusetts General Hospital found that Nitric Oxide improved respiratory permeability & bronchodilation. (They were not looking for the vasodilation effects but I’m sure that must have been happening too.) I first learned about breath holding out from Rosealba Courtney DO Lac from Australia, who used it to test Eucapnic metabolic health, the O2/CO2 exchange rate in the lungs. This was a contributing factor to asthma and sleep apnea and restricted breathing exercises could be used to cure asthma. Then I encountered this again studying at the beginning level with Lois Laynee. She had adopted a practice of Breathing out while humming to increase Nitric Oxide and Vasodilation and used it to calm the nervous system. One of the key actions to making the shift was swallowing at the bottom of the breath before inhaling again.
Signs that the parasympathetic nervous system is coming back online in the body:
+Spontaneous swallowing. When we are in a state of shock, our mouth dries up, we don’t produce saliva (neither are we producing digestive enzymes), and in order to swallow our food we need to drink something. Eating when in a state of stress, you can’t digest your food.
+Intestinal gurgles and rumbles. Have you noticed that when a client begins to relax that their organs and intestines begin to gurgle? As the parasympathetic wakes up, the viscera wake up.
+Yawning. Did you know you can make yourself yawn simply by rubbing your jaw muscles vigorously with your fingers and opening your mouth wide anticipating/expecting to yawn. Fake it til you make it.
Putting these two things together has enabled me to work effectively with shifting people out of long Covid symptoms. It has become my conviction that breathing dis-regulation is the metabolic habit that locks our nervous system into the Sympathetic side of the CNS where natural healing and self regeneration cannot happen due to the ‘emergency’ metabolism associated with the fight for survival.

Possible explanation for Tailoring: Healers restore the body to it's default state, Heartrenders change the body away from ita default state. So Heartrenders can change facial features but not change hair or eye color, only a true Tailor can do it. This makes me wonder if Heartrenders can produce insulin for diabetics or fix other autoimmune diseases🤔
You've managed to find that part of biology I've always hated- metabolism.
If I understand it correctly, Grisha can make organ produce substances, but immediately, not "reprogram" the organ permanently.
... Most Grisha Corporalki focused on the body—to kill or to cure—but Nina ... slowed heartbeats, eased breathing, relaxed muscles. She had a lucrative side business as a Tailor, seeing to the wrinkles and jowls of the wealthy Kerch, but her chief source of income came from altering moods. People came to her lonely, grieving, sad for no reason, and left buoyed, their anxieties eased. The effect didn’t last long ... Nina claimed it had something to do with glands ... “You make him feel better, ease his woe and all that … but could you compel him to do something? Maybe make him forget his wife?” “Alter the pathways in his mind? Don’t be absurd.” “The brain is just another organ,” Kaz said, quoting Van Eck. “Yes, but it’s an incredibly complex one. Controlling or altering another person’s thoughts … well, it’s not like lowering a pulse rate or releasing a chemical to improve someone’s mood. There are too many variables. No Grisha is capable of it.” Yet, Kaz amended. “So you treat the symptom, not the cause.”
Six of Crows- Chapter 5
But then again, this is ordinary teen Heartrender with unfinished education. We know nothing about old, highly specialized, talented, amplified Healers. Sure, brain's off limits- it has too many functions- but what about other stuff-producing organs?
Apparently, changing hair-colour is only about transporting pigment. Eyes probably work the same, but take more time- you don't want to fuck up your eyesight to look prettier:
... ordinarily Nina would have used pigments to alter her own hair color, but there simply wasn’t time. Nina bled the girl’s bright red color directly from the strands of her hair into Nina’s own, leaving the poor Kaelish with a mop of white waves that looked vaguely rusty in places, and Nina with hair that wasn’t quite Kaelish red. Nina’s eyes were green and not blue, but that kind of tailoring couldn’t be rushed, so they’d have to do.
Six of Crows- Chapter 28
My best guess on difference between a true Tailor and dabbling Corporalnik is something akin to aesthetics surgeon and dermatologist vs. general doctor. Plus Tailors have a sense for chemistry, so they should be able to draw from non-organic, or possibly toxic sources.

These chapters aren't nesacarily in order so please roll with it. It doesn't really matter for what this story is.
Fic masterlist:
CHAPTER TWO: GETTING A SIGNAL (Bucky + Prism)
It was one of the rare occasions where Prism and Bucky were sent on a mission together. Of course, things went haywire and they found themselves deep underground in the enemies base.
After the big fight, the enemy decided to just level the entire place- resulting in them being trapped while the enemy agents escaped.
Most of them at least.
They'd managed to reprogram some of the Ultron Era robots to patrol the lower levels and they were the current problem.
With the building literally collapsed into a pile of rubble on top of them, the Avenger pair were trapped with the enemy.
Just before the base had been blown, one of the agents had managed to inject Bucky with something that seemed to temporarily weaken the effects of the serum- inhibiting his ability to heal quickly.
Prism and Bucky wound up separated for a while until she rounded the corner just in time to see one of the repurposed robots make his torso into Swiss cheese.
"Bucky!" she bolted over to his collapsed form, beheading the bot with one swipe of her magic, it's body fell to the floor loudly.
Blood poured from at least seven holes, his eyes grew hazy as she dropped to her knees beside him. "I've got you, I'm gonna get you out of this." She swore, trying to hide her panic.
More robotic footsteps could be heard coming closer. "I've got to get us somewhere they won't see us. Hang on, Buck. If you die on me....I'll kill you."
He grinned a little, grunting in pain as she grabbed under his arms and pulled him into the closest room. A trail of blood followed them as she got him into the dark, musty control room. She gritted her teeth as she dragged him to a clear spot on the ground.
Honestly, she wasn't sure if her magic could do this but considering it seemed to do almost whatever she needed, she decided to try.
"Stay awake, Buck. I'm gonna get you out of this." She gulped and met his eyes briefly before sending her magic to her hands- white and pastel light cast an ethereal glow over her features that entranced him in his slightly delirious state.
Bucky watched in awe as she put her glowing hands over his torso, closing her eyes in concentration. He gave a shaky exhale in relief as his pain stopped for the moment and her magic encased his entire torso.
"I can feel the inhibitor they injected you with. I'm trying to help you metabolize it...and help with your major injuries. It's bad, I'm not gonna lie." She knit her brows in concentration, a stream of blood slid from one side of her nose as she worked- a sign of her efforts.
Not that she had any idea, but her partner watched her the entire time unable to look away. It was slow, hard work and after an hour or so of constant effort her magic began to flicker out.
"...Come on..." she tried to force more magic but her nosebleed only dropped from the other nostril as well as she got progressively more light headed.
"Take a break, Priz. You're about to pass out."
"But...but...UGH!" She growled in annoyance as her magic went out like someone had flipped the off switch.
He couldn't help his grimace as his pain returned. Life threatening injuries were taken care of but he was still hurt, weak and bleeding.
"I'll have to use natures magic." She resigned, wiping her nose on her arm that sported a few scrapes and bruises of her own.
"You're gonna cuddle with me?" He asked, arching an eyebrow.
"It's that or you die down here- and I won't let that happen. I'll try to heal you again when my magic comes back, but right now this is the best I can do for you. I'm sorry if the idea is repulsive but..." she grunted as she sat him up a bit and dragged him over toward a support pillar.
"No man left behind. I'm gonna get you out of here alive, Buck, or die trying." She promised, rendering him speechless as he gained a new respect for her.
She managed to slide between his back and the concrete, getting him to lay against her torso, between her legs. Her arms wrapped around him as she rested her cheek on the top of his head.
Bucky was unable to move thanks to a paralytic in the inhibitor, so he had to let himself rest against her. Admittedly, her boobs made nice pillows on either side of the back of his head.
He told her as much, getting a growl in response that made him smirk.
"I think in light of our current situation..." he waited for the pain from being moved to subside a bit, "We should call for a temporary truce. I don't think we should die fighting each other."
She sighed, "Deal. I'm too tired to be angry with you anymore. I don't think I could come up with a sarcastic comment if I tried."
She tired to use her ear piece to call for help but got no response.
"Coms are down and there's no way we're going to get a signal down here through all the rubble." Prism frowned, brow creasing as she had used a lot of her magic to slowly help her partners body fight the chemical he'd been injected with. "My magic is running on empty trying to keep you afloat. Honestly, I'm open to suggestions." She tried to heal him again, flinching as she felt a stab in her gut as her magic began to drain her.
Bucky was quiet for a moment as the thought, eyes trained on her hands that glowed with silver and pastel light against his blood stained tactical vest.
"I know how we can get a beacon to Steve, but you're not gonna like it."
"I think we've established the life and death situation were in, with our temporary truce in affect...just tell me."
He licked his dry lips, "I know you don't have much knowledge on what it's like to have a mate," he began.
"Not now, Barnes." She sighed, flinching as she felt another stab that sent liquid up her throat. She leaned to the side and coughed up some blood, wiping her mouth on her shoulder.
The beta frowned down at the spot on the floor for a moment, "Let me finish! And take a break, before both of us are defenseless. I'm not gonna die if you stop for a while."
After a moment of hesitation, she relented and let her hands stop glowing. He clenched his jaw a little as his pain returned but didn't make an audible sound.
"We're too far apart for mate telepathy, so the only way I can get a signal to him is if our bond detects infidelity."
He heard her breath catch, and felt the rise and fall of her chest speed up.
"Y-you mean..."
"We're both betas, so there's no risk to you. Once I cum from someone else our bond will lead him right to us like a bloodhound."
She was silent.
"I told you you wouldn't like it. Well...maybe you will, I'm sure no one's been that close to you i-" "Truce, asshole. Remember?"
"Right. Sorry." He cleared his throat.
"Besides, I'm surprised you're even suggesting it. I always thought you hated me."
He scoffed, "Now I know you don't have much experience with men. I don't have to like you personally to want to fuck you, Doll. Been a long time since I had a gal anyway- though I'm not exactly in my best shape to preform so you'll have to take the lead."
Prism's face couldn't get any more pink, heart hammering nervously in her chest.
"You're messing with me."
"Normally Id jump at the chance but not in this case. Either we do this so Steve can find us or we die down here."
She was quiet again, "When we get home, we never speak of this again and you can't hold it against me...ever."
His chuckle ended in a cough, "Make me bargin for both our lives why don't ya?" he coughed a little more, flinching in pain and noticing her rub his chest soothingly as a reflex.
"You have my word, Priz." He said at last.
With a resigned sigh, she carefully slid out from behind him and he was able to sit up long enough to scoot back and put his back against the wall.
She stepped in front of him, looking shy. "I'm not getting naked."
"Don't have to. Just from the waist down then sit in my lap."
With a small gulp, she began to undo the pants of her suit - aware of him grunting in discomfort as he tugged his down to his knees while leaving his underwear up.
The mage could already see the thick outline of his already half hard member, making warmth spread through her body in a way she'd been purposely avoiding for years.
Luckily, Bruce had just given her a dose of her industrial strength suppressants the day before the mission so her omega pheromones were undetectable.
Of course, Bucky could still scent the smell of her slick as soon as it began. He did her the courtesy of sparing her of that information in the name of their temporary cease-fire.
Deep down it stoked his ego to know a gorgeous woman - even if it was Priz- found him attractive enough to start getting wet for him before they even had any physical contact.
In fact, he said nothing at all as she placed herself in his lap facing him as her now bare crotch landed perfectly on his clothed one.
"This is the tricky part. You need to make sure you don't hurt yourself here. I can't move very much so...you're gonna have to do most of the prep...and work."
He smirked a little as her eyes flicked up and down his body for a moment. "I'm not really a...top kind of beta so-"
He chuckled, "Yeah, no shit."
"What's that supposed to mean, Barnes?" she hissed, but rolled her hips to his anyway.
A small grunt came from his lips as his hands lifted from his sides to grasp her bare waist and guide her a little.
"I know you've got a mouth on you and you're a scrappy little beta, I'll give you that..." his grip tightened to push her down a little harder, earning a small whimper from her. "You are clearly a bottom leaning one too, all the alphas can tell."
While Bucky was technically a beta, the part of him that was The Winter Soldier had been made into an Alpha that now lived in the back of his mind. He could be every bit an Alpha as Steve or anyone else.
Knowing that made her wet on an instinctual level.
"H-how can you tell? Wait...all of you?!" she tensed up hips stopping for a moment as blood rushed to her cheeks. "Has this been a topic of discussion?!"
He tilted his head with a grin and said nothing for a long moment. "All alphas are secretly horn dogs, I'm positive nearly every alpha you've ever met has fantasized about you at least once or thought about what you're like in bed. You're a brat, Priz, but that just means you need a firmer hand. With the right partner, I bet you cant help being a compliant, good girl." His large hands slid down to paw at her thighs, spreading them a little and making her lower lips slip against each other - earning a shutter and shaky breath.
Prism blushed, thankful again for her suppressants as she'd have otherwise dripped at the thought of being so wanted. "Scentless doesn't mean unfuckable, I guess."
Bucky's hands encouraged her to move against his hardness again, "It certainly does not." Amusement laced his tone. "But that's not how I know." He went on, watching her eyes glaze a little with lust as the heavy smell of her arousal became apparent.
"How then?" she asked, gasping when his flesh hand suddenly grabbed her throat and gave a controlled squeeze that made her eyes flutter and hips speed up, a shuttery gasp sliding from her lips.
"Because even when you're on top, you want me to dom you. I've been doing it almost the entire time and you immediately accepted it- melted into it is more accurate. So tell me, Doll," She felt the air shift as he began to put out Alpha pheromones. "How do I make you...open up to me? What makes you want to shut that pretty mouth and be a good girl for Alpha?" his voice dropped an octave, blue eyes glinting with arrogance and lust.
Her brows creased as his praise went straight to her core, panting slightly.
Unable to deny what she wanted, Prism took his flesh hand and made him cup her jaw, pressing to tell him to squeeze. He smirked and did as instructed, "You want alpha to kiss you?"
She frowned a little as she remembered his mate back at the tower and guilt pricked at her.
"Don't worry about Steve, sweetheart. The goal here is to upset the mating bond and commit infidelity. I have to fuck you to get us rescued...kissing you is nothing by comparison." His tone got softer for a moment, thumb grazing her lips and squishing the lower one a little to admire how soft and full it was.
His words worked, getting a nod of consent. Seizing her jaw again, he pulled her face down to his and claimed her lips in a domineering kiss that made her groan against his.
Keeping in mind how common it was for betas to have casual sex with each other, though usually unmated ones, the beauty took his metal hand and slid it around her to grip her ass.
Prism gripped his hair as she kissed him back, careful to avoid the wounds on his torso. His growl made her hands drop immediately, he let her pull back from him and their breath mingled in the air.
"See? I'm a top leaning beta, you can sense that and you just submitted to me again because you know I will win this fight- even all fucked up like this." He slid his flesh hand up and down her waist, memorizing the feel of her soft, feminine form.
"Someone's cocky." She grinned, silver eyes meeting his blue ones.
"You'll become better acquainted with my cockiness soon enough, doll."
They shared a small, genuine laugh before he winked.
"I'm gonna do my thing and feel free to hop on when you feel ready to be a good girl and help me get us out of here." He said against her lips before kissing her cheek, behind her ear and then down her neck- hand creeping up to tug at her hair.
"F-fuck." She groaned, head falling to the side for him as his alpha pheromones flooded her.
"That's the plan." He breathed against her skin, letting his prickly stubble scratch her. She moaned as he sucked on the spot where her neck and shoulder met, "You're so wet for me." He murmured as she reached down and freed him from his jockeys, hiding her surprise at its size and weight in her hand.
Bucky groaned as she stroked him a few times before lifting herself to rub his head against her opening. His head fell back, eyes rolling in pleasure as she stretched herself over him and sank down - easily taking him to the hilt resulting in a buldge in her lower belly.
"Mmmm!" she rested her forehead against his as she sat still for a moment before starting to ride him.
"God, you're a natural." He groaned, both hands now kneading her ass while watching her body swallow him like it was made for him specifically.
Pride bloomed in her chest as she soon reduced him to a groaning, sweaty mess under her while he continued to grope her where he could - part of her wishing she'd taken her top off.
With a burst of confidence, she leaned toward his face and changed her angle a little so he reached deeper, making a string of curses fall from his lips.
"Gonna come for me soldier? Fill me up with your cum?"
He regarded her through heavily lidded eyes, "You gotta earn it, baby doll. Ride that cock and earn alphas load." One hand reached back up to grip her throat as he buried his nose in her neck, grunting as his metal hand grabbed her hips and forced her to move faster
Her little body bounced above him, messy hair floating slightly each time she speared herself again. "My little Angel wants alphas cum, huh?" He made sure to brush his stubble on her sensitive skin again. "If I could move I'd show you what I can do and you wouldn't walk right for a week." His voice was dripping with lust, face contorting when her body squeezed him at his words.
"You like that, Princess? You like when alpha talks dirty? 'm gonna fill you up so much you're gonna inflate like a balloon, sloshing with every step as my cum slides down your legs."
"...alpha..." she whimpered, squeezing him again.
"Cum on my cock, doll. Be a good girl and earn your prize." His voice was tight as he reached the edge.
With a moan of pleasure that could put a porn star to shame, she threw her head back as her body pulled him in close to press his head against her cervix.
"F-fuuuccck!" he groaned, hands pulling her down roughly as he shot a massive load deep into her- sure enough- causing her to inflate a bit to accommodate it. She could feel each long, hot burst as he made good on his promise.
Almost as soon as his body relaxed under her, he felt a squeeze in his chest that told him Steve had pin pointed them through the bond.
"Did it work?" she panted, legs shaking as they still rested on his thighs.
Bucky nodded, "He knows. He's on the way."
"Good." She went to stand up but froze when he grabbed her arm, eyeing him suspiciously. "One last kiss for the road?"
She snickered, "In your dreams, Barnes."
With a crooked smirk, he let go and watched his dick fall out of her as she stood up, yelping slightly as she stood to the side to let the thick stream of white drain from her belly and onto the floor.
"Shit, you weren't kidding." She tried to squeeze out what she could, using a scrap piece of cloth from the rubble to wipe the mess off her legs.
Bucky put himself away and pulled his pants up with minor difficulty. "I forgot how good pussy is." He shrugged, secretly proud of how much he'd managed to give her. "Best I've ever had, at least of what I remember."
He didn't know the real reason hers was so good, but she did - a small badge of pride she tucked away. "Well...thanks?" she glanced at him while she put her pants back on, receiving a wink.
She helped him lean forward and scooted to her previous position: him laying between her legs, his back to her chest, neck cradled between her breasts, her arms around his waist near his wounds.
"I'm gonna try again, okay?"
" 'ppreciate it."
She rested her cheek on the top of his head and closed her eyes as her hands began to glow again, making his body relax further as her magic fought the toxin inside of him and began to help close more of the wounds.
Prism kept going with the slow and difficult process until she was hit with exhaustion and her magic flickered out.
By then, her teammate had fallen asleep under her touch so she allowed herself to follow.
That was how The Captain found them hours later after Tony helped him clear enough of the rubble to get down there.
Steve couldn't help the small smile that crossed his face when he saw them like that. If things were different, they'd be a cute couple.
-
Prism begrudgingly sat in the alpha's lap while the Quinjet's autopilot took them home.
Bucky sat in the passengers seat with an open paper back covering his eyes, head tipped back.
"Oh, and the next time you wanna take Buck for a ride, let me know ahead of time so I can watch. He is my mate after all."
She glared up at his smirk, cheeks ablaze. "You know it was the only way."
"I know, and I'm not mad. Betas fuck all the time." Amusement twinkled in his baby blues.
"Steve!" she growled, eyes tearing with embarrassment.
"What? Beta on beta can be hot! Plus, he could-" "and would!" Bucky added from his seat, not moving from his position.
The blonde chuckled a little, turning his attention back to the female and continued, "right, and would, Alpha for you properly if that's what you wanted. All you gotta to is ask to borrow him, and give me a front row seat."
"How do you know I wouldn't dom him?"
Bucky snickered in his seat and Steve openly began to laugh.
She began to sulk, a dark cloud over her head as her cheeks burned.
"You did save his life though so...you can have one free-bee without supervision." Steve said quietly, resting his cheek on the top of her head
"Gee thanks." She rolled her eyes but accepted the physical contact that was already helping with her soreness and exhaustion.
He chuckled, a crooked grin she couldn't see on his lips. "I'm serious. But also, thank you for bringing my mate back to me. I'd be a mess without him."
Prism had never heard him sound so sincere, least of all while speaking to her. She knew he'd probably hate her forever and possibly even kill her if she failed or let Bucky die...but that wasn't why she did it.
"I couldn't leave him. We may not always get along but...we're teammates. I'd do the same for you." She replied softly.
Now it was the alpha's turn to be rendered speechless for a moment. "I know you would."
Liar.
She couldn't help but scoff, making him glare down at her for a moment- mildly embarrassed he'd been caught.
Neither of them brought it up again. Instead, he began to rub her back and made an effort to exude more alpha pheromones to help her.
Soon, she fell asleep, her cheek on his collar bone.
